Minigolf La Herradura, the Full Experience, Halting to Closure- The Wheels Came Off, Mine! + Reorganization Update:
Tragically, at least from my point of view, after years of chronic knee pain, due, I believe to a lifetime of chasing after one type of sport ball or another, the level heightened dramatically over the last few months. After scans, MRIs and consultations with both public and private specialists, it turns out the knees, the wheels of yours truly, are so riddled with untreatable, degenerative arthritis at the tender age of 57 as to be completely kaput. In short, the labor required as is to maintain the grounds and sustain the level of play at Minigolf La Herradura is far too much weight for these broken knees to bear barring the dosage of pain-killers that would KO a rhino and in quick order lead to multiple organ failures. (Pictured below, Wednesday night’s final birthday party.) Not recommended. Thus,
-Plan B: Operation Parking Lot. Thinking fast, I reread my contract recalling that the land can be used, aside from leisure and agriculture, for car parking as well. And so it shall. I have converted the plot with the front two-thirds where the Minigolf course was now functioning as holiday car parking.
What in effect will happen is that for the price of admission, to be determined, you will either be paying for parking with the Minigolf course as a free perk, or you’ll be paying for the Minigolf with parking as a free perk, the price being the same in either case. If that makes any sense.
The full 18-hole Minigolf course will be complete and easily playable, though snugly tucked at the back in the space previously used for racquet sports and petanca, the only difference being shorter spacing from one hole to the next.
-Location: We are very easy to find, albeit obscured from the beachfront Paseo Andrés Segovia. Just two small alleys back, we are directly behind the children’s playground, the Centro de Salud, post office and newly remodeled market/food court. Please visit our website: http://www.minigolflh.es for a Google map which pins us down exactly.
-Opening Hours: We are open for parking as of today, Friday 23 June. And we will be open every day from now until 11 September when schools reopen. Regarding the time, provisionally it will be from 9:00am until 10:00pm. There will be overnight and long-term parking available but no access to the car outside of these hours. I’m certain by next week’s post, the opening times will be finalized. As always, feel free to ring me with any questions you might have on +34 603 416 632.
Best regards, Señor El Parking, Scott Huston/La Herradura

MOONETTE – Organic Skincare for Mature Skin

We are a Torrox-based company specialising in the creation of formulae which help prevent premature skin ageing. We are committed to making effective products at affordable prices.
Your skin health matters to us. How you feed your skin is as important as how you feed your body. Why settle for anything less than natural and organic?
As our skin is the first layer of our defence against microbial infections, ultraviolet radiation and environmental contamination it plays a vital role in our health. As we grow older, however, our skin becomes thinner, wrinkled, and more sensitive; hence it requires the use of treatments containing specific ingredients to the care of treating mature skin.
Recognising this need we have created a range of formulae which help
-slow down ageing process by smoothing fine lines and wrinkles.
-improve facial complexion and eliminate blemishes.
At Moonette, we are passionate about health, beauty and plants. Your skin will benefit from the properties of botanic essential oils combined with a selection of nutrients for deep hydration, cell revitalization and antioxidant effect, all sourced from the finest natural ingredients with gorgeous fragrances.
Naturally, we care about our planet and feel the need to help reduce the sheer volumes of plastics waste that are generated daily around the globe. Presently, we are minimizing the usage of plastic materials in our production while seeking alternative forms of packaging. To help reduce pollution we are asking all local customers to recycle or reuse their Moonette skincare containers, and offering a small discount on future purchases to customers recycling containers.

SPAIN

President Sanchez’s Spain-Algeria-Morocco Fiasco Threatens More Than Spain’s Fuel Supplies, “Sánchez’s turn on the Sahara is a very serious mistake”, according to the former director of the CNI: {Translation}
– The former director of the CNI (2001-2004) and former Spanish ambassador to Morocco between 1997 and 2001, Jorge Dezcallar, has criticised the turn that the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, took in March by supporting Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara: “It is a very serious mistake”. Dezcallar said this at a conference he gave on Wednesday at the Círculo Ecuestre in Barcelona under the title “Geopolitics in times of great rivalries”.
– “I don’t understand what this government has done in changing our position on the Sahara. I don’t see what advantages we have obtained, nobody has explained it to me, I think it is a very serious mistake”, said Dezcallar in his speech.
– “When the UN saw that it was impossible to hold a referendum on independence in the Sahara because Morocco refused, it said that there had to be at least an agreement between the parties. And Spain supported that decision. And we were doing very well there. And suddenly the President of the Government decides, without the knowledge of his government or his partners in government, or his investiture partners or the opposition, that he is going to support Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara”, Dezcallar said, before criticising the move.
– “And we found out about this through a letter that was leaked from the Royal Palace of Morocco, the full text of which we still do not know because it has not been published, despite the fact that Congress has asked for it”, the former director of the CNI pointed out.
– Dezcallar argued that support for Morocco’s sovereignty in the Sahara is of little benefit to Spain. “What have we gained? A decrease in irregular immigration? OK, yes, a decrease that is reversible, but yes”, Dezcallar conceded, before listing a series of geopolitical problems with Morocco that persist despite diplomatic support for the Maghreb monarchy.
– “Ceuta and Melilla are being suffocated by Morocco. In fact, anyone who believes that Morocco is going to give up sovereignty over Ceuta and Melilla should take a look at it. We also continue to have territorial water delimitation problems with the Moroccans that remain unresolved. Nor has the customs office in Melilla been reopened? I only see that Sánchez’s move has put us in the middle of the war between Algeria and Morocco, and stones are falling on us from all sides”, Dezcallar commented.
– Along the same lines, the Spanish ex-diplomat argued that the government’s move has “made Algeria very angry” and that this has led to an 85% drop in exports to the African country compared to last year: “In Algeria, nothing that says ‘Made in Spain’ is sold”.  Italy now receives the lion’s share of fuel from the Algeria refineries that Spain, for decades, was the receiver of.
– Dezcallar also criticised the fact that the president’s manoeuvre did not have the support of Congress: “This weakens Sánchez and weakens Spain’s position. Foreign policy must be a policy of consensus because it responds to the interests of the State, and the interests of the State do not change because the tenant of the Moncloa changes. And if you change, it is perfectly legitimate, but explain it and say what you gain from it”, he declared.
– Finally, the former ambassador of the North African country predicted problems with the neighbouring country: “If Morocco perceives weakness in Spain’s position, and at the moment it must perceive it, this means that Spain is going to have problems in the medium or short term. Morocco is a great country, and we must treat it with affection, but also with firmness”. Tennis News- Wimbledon to use AI commentary – and line judges could be replaced next:
– Wimbledon might have a reputation for favouring tradition over change, but are set to follow a worldwide trend in embracing artificial intelligence (AI) at this year’s Championships. The All England Club have announced that AI commentary will be produced for their video highlights packages of next month’s tournament, in what they described as “the first step” towards computer generated commentary for live matches in the future. It is a statement move, especially considering the current debate around how the technology – including tools like ChatGPT – might impact wider society or potentially be abused.
– While Wimbledon have used AI for their stats packages and player power index for a number of years, this will be the first audio created entirely by AI. Using generative AI technology from IBM watsonx, Wimbledon will produce audio commentary and captions for all highlights videos during the Championships, which can be watched on their website and app.
– Though there are no plans to replace live human commentary, AI commentary could be a future feature for matches away from the show courts that do not currently have commentary.
– As part of the development process, tennis experts were brought in to advise on how to train the AI in the unique language of tennis and Wimbledon, including terms like “gentlemen’s” and “ladies’”. While no human commentators were consulted, AELTC Technology Director Bill Jinks admitted it would be “technically feasible” to train the AI commentary to mimic McEnroe or other famous commentator’s speaking style, as long as an intellectual property agreement was in place.
– When asked about how far AI could go at Wimbledon, including on court, Jinks said there was no risk of human umpires being replaced. However he did not rule out line judges being phased out at Wimbledon, as has been the trend on the tennis tour generally.
– In April, the men’s ATP Tour announced that human line judges will be replaced by an electronic calling system – which uses a combination of cameras and AI technology – on a full-time basis from 2025. Other tournaments, including the US Open and Australian Open, have followed suit to avoid human error, and prevent blow-up arguments over disputed calls. But line judges’ days may be numbered at SW19, as Jinks did not commit to ensuring their future. FROM THE “WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY THINKING” DEPARTMENT

‘Really evil’- Child porn made by AI is creating a new online horror, and it can bypass current anti-porn filters:
– The newest “nightmare” on the internet is a flood of AI-generated child sex images. The AI industry “has sparked an explosion of disturbingly lifelike images showing child sexual exploitation, fuelling concerns among child-safety investigators that they will undermine efforts to find victims and combat real-world abuse,” explained the Washington Post in a report.
– What has until now been recognized as child porn, a serious crime in almost every jurisdiction, now can be created – and look realistic, the report said. “Thousands of AI-generated child-sex images have been found on forums across the dark web, a layer of the internet visible only with special browsers, with some participants sharing detailed guides for how other paedophiles can make their own creations,” the report warned. The FBI has warned that the faked images now are appearing on social media and public forums, in addition to porn sites, the report said.
– Officials from the U.S. Justice Department’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section confirmed that such images are illegal as they depict “minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.” They said, it is “illegal for any person to knowingly produce, distribute, receive, or possess with intent to transfer or distribute visual representations, such as drawings, cartoons, or paintings that appear to depict minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct and are deemed obscene.”
– Child safety experts are growing increasingly powerless to stop thousands of “AI-generated child sex images” from being easily and rapidly created, then shared across dark web paedophile forums, The Washington Post reported.
– This “explosion” of “disturbingly” realistic images could help normalize child sexual exploitation, lure more children into harm’s way, and make it harder for law enforcement to find actual children being harmed, experts told the Post.
– Harmful AI materials can also re-victimize anyone whose images of past abuse are used to train AI models to generate fake images. “Children’s images, including the content of known victims, are being repurposed for this really evil output,” Portnoff, director at the non-profit child-safety group Thorn said.
– Normally, content of known victims can be blocked by child safety tools that hash reported images and detect when they are reshared to block uploads on online platforms. But that technology only works to detect previously reported images, not newly AI-generated images. Both law enforcement and child-safety experts report these AI images are increasingly being popularized on dark web paedophile forums, with many Internet users “wrongly” viewing this content as a legally grey alternative to trading illegal child sexual abuse materials (CSAM).
– Editor’s Note: Criminals can take any photo they find on the internet of a child, such as photos parents post on Fakebook, and turn it into kiddie-porn, by blending it with other, explicit images. The public is not ready for these AI powered tools! I see no possible justification for this to be permitted, although evidently big-tech disagrees. Coincidently, or not, this comes just 2 months after the UN/WHO had declared children under 18 can consent to sex, as I covered in a previous article. (https://digamextra.com/2023/04/19/digamextra-no-2518-wednesday-april-19th-2023/).

ANDALUCIA

Andalucians can soon enter the buildings of the Junta de Andalucía with their dogs or cats: {Translation}
– If you want to go to any public building of the Junta de Andalucía, you will not have to leave your dog at home. Nor at the door. The animal will be able to walk around the facilities dependent on the autonomous administration because the Governing Council has approved this Tuesday that pets will have guaranteed access to its facilities.
– Thus, “one of the priorities of the Andalusian Government in terms of pet protection is the promotion of responsible pet ownership”. To this end, Juanma Moreno’s government considers it “necessary to proceed with a progressive change in the view that citizens have of animals, so that they are seen as beings deserving of respect who need care and attention”.
– The Andalusian government’s decision, according to the Junta, involves the application of national regulations which stipulate that pets must be allowed to enter public buildings. This regulation, within the Animal Welfare Law, was approved a few months ago and it was now the Andalusian government’s turn to adapt it to the community.
– The deadlines set by the law is that animals can start entering public buildings on 29 September 2023. “From that day onwards, any person will be able to enter any public building or facility with their pet, unless there is an express prohibition to the contrary, duly signposted and visible from the outside, as is also stated in the aforementioned legislative text. NERJA

Nerja celebrates the Night of San Juan with music and the burning of the “Júa”, bans bonfires: {Translation, summary}
– The traditional Night of San Juan will be held again this year on Burriana beach on June 23 with the popular burning of the “Júa” at midnight and live musical performances.
– Regarding the mandatory regulations, the Councilor for Beaches, María del Carmen López , has detailed that camping and bonfires will not be allowed on the beaches of Burriana, La Torrecilla and Maro. “Regarding the schedules and other regulations related to the use of our beaches during the festival of San Juan, they can be consulted on the municipal website,” she explained. Contact Ruth Forder on 0034 693 715 718 ; Comparefuneral.org
Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

DoctorLaptop’s Computer Repairs & Services + Quick Tip:
– Summer heat puts additional strain on laptops. Hot laptops tend to run slow, or even shut themselves down, and this leads to bigger problems. Have your computer properly maintained with an annual professional servicing to keep it  free of malware, trackers & data collectors and running at its optimum capacity.
– Quick Tip: Do NOT try to clean dust from your laptop’s fan exhaust port or heat vents by blowing into them! That dust and hair works its way into mechanical connections, potentially blocking buttons, switches and connection ports from being able to make contact. Using a vacuum to suck out the dust is ok.
– You don’t wait till your car engine freezes before you change your oil, now do you? If you do, the repair costs far more than the oil changes you skipped. It’s the same with computers. An inexpensive annual maintenance service is far cheaper than waiting until the device is annoyingly slow and popping up error messages, and thus in need of an expensive repair. Protect your computer & your privacy with annual servicing.
– The Doctor is closed on weekends. I do not work on computers that are more than 8 years old (pre 2015), unless they have been receiving annual servicing by me. Always include the patient’s make and model number when making support requests.

An official report only prohibited swimming in the Colada reservoir in Cordoba {pic} due to the presence of cyanobacteria which is potentially toxic. Photo: tuttocordoba. COSTA DEL SOL

Arroyo de la Miel hosts traditional festivities to honour San Juan:
– Arroyo de la Miel is getting ready to celebrate its traditional fair in honour of the town’s patron, St John the Baptist (San Juan Bautista): six days of festivities held in Plaza de la Mezquita and at the fairground near La Paloma park from Saturday 24 until Thursday 29 June.
– The town hall has organised a full schedule of events and concerts, including rock, pop, flamenco and ‘copla’, along with children’s activities, and, of course, the fairground attractions.
– The fair is launched with the traditional San Juan Eve festivities on 23 June, where, as in most towns along the Costa del Sol, thousands of people will flock to the beach to enjoy fireworks, jumping over bonfires and midnight bathing. This is followed by the inauguration of the casetas and the official turning on of the lights, signalling several days of celebrations at the fairground and religious services at the patron’s shrine in Calle Oropéndola.
– The daytime activities will take place from Saturday 24 in Plaza de la Mezquita, while some of the bars and restaurants in Arroyo de la Miel will offer light entertainment throughout the day. EUROPE

Ancient Roman complex, place of Caesar’s stabbing, opens to tourists:
– Four temples from ancient Rome, dating back as far as the 3rd century B.C., stand smack in the middle of one of the modern city’s busiest crossroads. But until Monday, practically the only ones getting a close-up view of the temples were cats that prowled the so-called “Sacred Area,” on the edge of the site where Julius Caesar was assassinated.
– With the help of funding from Bulgari, the luxury jeweler, the grouping of temples can now be visited by the public.
The attraction is open every day except for Mondays and some major holidays, with general admission tickets priced at 5 euros ($5.50). Photo: Domenico Stinellis. Full article: https://scrippsnews.com/stories/ancient-roman-complex-place-of-caesar-s-stabbing-opens-to-tourists/

HEALTH

You can now use your phone to ID skin conditions (and ID objects and translate text in photos):
– While it’s not at all aimed to replace medical screening, the visual search function of the “Google Lens” app has now moved beyond identifying plants and birds to being able to act as a preliminary skin check tool. Google will examine your rash and suggest matching conditions and treatments. It can also translate text in photos, very handy for travellers!
– Simply take a snap in the Google Lens app, or upload an earlier shot from your library, and it’ll return to you image-based links that best match your image. Sure, it’s not faultless – when we tried it out, it suggested a slightly raised mole was a wart – but it does mean you can now look up something you may not have the right words for in order to narrow down search results.
– “Describing an odd mole or rash on your skin can be hard to do with words alone,” said Google in a statement. “Fortunately, there’s a new way Lens can help, with the ability to search skin conditions that are visually similar to what you see on your skin.
– However, activity is saved to the cloud, so if you’re sensitive about your medical history being archived, you’ll need to turn off Google Lens saves in the Web & App Activity section of your Google Account first.
– The Google Lens app is available on Android, while Apple iOS users can access it through the Google app. Google Lens currently supports English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Korean, Chinese, Danish, Dutch, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Polish, Russian, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, and Vietnamese.
– Google Lens on a Windows computer has limited functions. It can scan on-screen images but cannot click new images using the camera like on mobile. Also, most features only work on the Chrome browser and you need to make a settings change to enable it. If you want to try it in Windows, check this website for a tutorial, use Method #2. https://techwiser.com/how-to-access-and-use-google-lens-on-desktop/

OTHER

From driving with gloves or eating while driving to walking on the wrong side of the road- actions that can cost you a fine behind the wheel, or on the roadside in Spain: {Translation, summary}
– Speeding, using a mobile phone, driving without having the compulsory insurance up to date or without a seat belt are offences that we quickly associate with a fine. But they are not the only ones.
– Throwing objects out of the window: the General Traffic Regulations prohibit “throwing, depositing or abandoning objects or materials on the road that may hinder free movement, stopping or parking, make them dangerous or deteriorate the facilities”. In other words, throwing objects out of the window that could cause accidents or fires.
– Driving with your arm out of the window: some of us are reminded of the image of an advertisement for a prestigious car brand in which the driver is shown sticking his hand out of the window, an action that can be punished with between 80 and 200 euros and the possible withdrawal of three points from the licence.
– Eating while driving: Handling food or drink is linked to losing attention while driving, a practice that can impair freedom of movement and therefore increase the likelihood of an accident. The best thing to do is to stop, eat and drink calmly and in this way also save about 100 euros in fines.
– Holding your mobile phone in your hand: the simple gesture of picking up your mobile phone and unlocking it while driving is punishable by a fine because it is considered to be in use. This action is punishable with the withdrawal of six points and a financial penalty of 200 euros. We will also be fined the same amount, but with three licence points, if we use headphones in the car, if we manually use navigators that are not integrated or mobile phone systems attached to a support.
– Driving with too little or too much clothing: although the DGT clarifies that driving without a shirt is not classified as an offence, it may be punishable because it breaches one of the concepts set out in the General Traffic Regulations, which states that the driver is “obliged to maintain their own freedom of movement, the necessary field of vision and permanent attention to driving to ensure their own safety and that of the other occupants of the vehicle and other road users”. Therefore, if the officer considers that the clothing, or lack of it, hinders any of these objectives, he can fine between 80 and 200 euros. This would include driving while wearing gloves, a coat or a hat, as these are items of clothing that can limit our freedom of movement.
– Washing the car in the street: this action is forbidden as it is included in article 4.2 of the General Traffic Regulations, according to which it is forbidden to “throw, deposit or abandon on the road objects or materials that may hinder free circulation, stopping or parking, make them dangerous or deteriorate their installations”. The amount varies according to the municipality.
– Using the horn without a justified reason: being noisy at the wheel is punishable, unless justified. Horn honking is only allowed to warn other drivers or pedestrians of danger, but not to wave to a friend, to warn another car that the traffic light is green or to complain about the driving of another car. It is forbidden especially on roads with an R-310 sign, usually located near hospitals or nursing homes. This offence is punishable by a fine of 80 euros.
– Leaving the car parked on the street for too many days: between 10 and 30 working days is the maximum that we can leave the car parked in the same place on the street. Exceeding this figure, which varies depending on the municipality, can also incur an extra cost, which is also determined by local regulations.
– Driving in the left-hand lane if the right-hand lane is free: if we use the left-hand lane of a motorway even though we have the right-hand lane free, we are also liable to a fine (200 euros, with no points deducted) because, according to the DGT, we are making improper use of this lane. We can only use the centre or left lane for overtaking. As the Royal Automobile Club of Catalonia (RACC) warns, “overtaking on the right is strictly forbidden”; it is considered a serious offence that can lead to a fine of 200 euros and the loss of four points on the licence.
– As pedestrians, we also have certain obligations that we must fulfil and which, if we do not accept them, may result in a financial penalty, such as:
– Crossing in areas equipped with pedestrian crossings: these areas are the safest for crossing the road, therefore, they are mandatory. If we do not do so and ignore their function, we can be punished with a fine of up to 100 euros.
– Putting your feet on the dashboard: some co-drivers put their feet on the dashboard, an action which, in addition to being dangerous, can lead to a fine of between 80 and 100 euros.
– Walking on the right on a road outside a town or city: You should always walk on the left if you are not on an urban road. Walking on the right is considered reckless and is punishable by a fine of 80 euros. Source, Spanish: https://www.eldiario.es/consumoclaro/por-que-me-pueden-multar-conduciendo_1_10294678.html

Editor’s Note: Although not nearly 100% yet, I am feeling somewhat better, and most of the facial swelling has gone down. I have spent 2 weeks trying to figure out what caused the illness. After much consideration, I now believe it may have been an allergic reaction to a middle-eastern sweet I bought in a small grocery on impulse from a counter-top display tray, a kind of pistachio paste stuffed gooey baklava thing with an almond on top. It was the only unusual food I ate before I became ill, that I had forgotten about till this past weekend.  Thanks to all those that sent “get well soon” messages.

SPAIN

The asphyxiating tax burden- it has risen 21% since Sánchez’s arrival and the new far-left coalition SUMAR pushes for far more, except maybe less for women (yes, they really suggested tax discounts for women): {Translation, summary}
– Spain has been living in a permanent state of electoral campaigning for some years now, not only because of the number of elections held, but also because of the enormous polarisation of the political forces in the different administrations, which feeds the perpetual verbal confrontation.
– The first major proposal has not taken long to come to the fore since Pedro Sánchez dissolved Las Cortes on 29 May. Yolanda Díaz, is the acting Minister of Labour and Social Economy, and leader of SUMAR. SUMAR is a new coalition comprised of smaller far-left groups, for whom Sanchez is not far-left enough. Díaz announced a few days ago her party’s intention to raise all taxes (personal income tax, corporation tax, taxes on large fortunes, environmental taxes, digital taxes…) with the exception of VAT. She even raised the possibility of differentiated taxation for women. And this is still a month and a half before the elections.
– According to the IEE report, “during 2022, we have witnessed in Spain a tax collection that exceeds all historical records”. The IEE warns that in the current financial year, budgeted tax revenues will exceed pre-pandemic figures, those of 2019, by almost 50,000 million euros. In its opinion, tax revenues will have increased by 23.4%, while GDP will grow by 11.5%, less than half. Source, Spanish: https://www.vozpopuli.com/economia_y_finanzas/presion-fiscal-espana.html

President Sanchez Makes Insane Claim Spanish Media Is Dominated By Conservatives: {Translation, summary}
{Is Sanchez so far out of touch with reality he actually believes this foolishness? Spanish media has long been dominated by progressive forces who push any new radical, progressive plans Sanchez comes up with. Articles critical of the Left’s agenda are very few, and usually only found in small, local newspapers. The reason the news has been dominated by articles about the conservatives recently is because they just won elections in a landslide. What is the news to do, cover the losers? -Ed.}
– The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has falsely pointed out that there are fewer progressive voices on talk shows or in the media with respect to the sociological reality of the country, which he has placed at 50% conservatives and 50% progressives.
– Although he avoided making specific mentions, he pointed out that any observer or analyst can see that this disproportion exists, in an interview on Onda Cero, reported by Europa Press.
– Sánchez has conveniently not indicated which media are, in his opinion, carrying out campaigns of disqualifications and insults against him and his government. Although he preferred not to cite specific names in public on the grounds that he is the president, he has offered to pass them on off-microphone. “If  wanted, I can say  later in private,” he said.
– At the time, Sánchez claimed that “the right wing” has a dominant position in the mainstream media and has unleashed a ferocious campaign of “insults and disqualifications”. In this sense, he added that you can see on prime-time programmes how they “invent outrageous things” because what in his opinion the right wing is “copying the methods of their American masters”.
– He also stated that he believes that some will talk of “pucherazo” (election rigging), and others will want to arrest him as responsible for this “pucherazo”. It’s not new, his American masters launched a crazed mob to storm the Capitol to denounce a false “pucherazo”,” he recalled, comparing PP and Vox to Trumpism.
– On Monday, when questioned about which media outlets are those in which the right has a position of dominance and runs disinfo campaigns, Sánchez pointed out that there is a “disproportion” in the representation of progressive voices, although he did not name names.
– In the same vein, he reiterated that “it is a reality” that there is a lack of proportionality. “Any objective analyst of the media reality in our country can confirm an indisputable fact, and that is that there is an absolute disproportion” and an “imbalance” in favour of conservative options, he said.

MALAGA PROVINCE

Housing sales stagnate- almost 20% less in April: {Translation, summary}
– Property sales and purchases are stagnating in Malaga and going backwards. This is what can be deduced from the latest report published by Prisma Global, which shows a year-on-year fall in real estate transactions of almost 20 per cent in April. With an added indicator, because if it is generally the sale of used housing that stimulates the real estate market, in the fourth month of the year, and in the year-on-year comparison with April 2023 it is observed that the decline is 16 percent.
– Prisma warns that “the indicators of the real estate market in the province of Malaga seem to point to a cooling with respect to the strong growth of 2022, all in the midst of strong macroeconomic uncertainties and rising interest rates”.
– The latest published data from the housing sales indicator (INE) for April 2023, which left a figure of 2,439 sales in the province of Malaga, which, in relative terms, translates into a decrease of -19.6 percent compared to the same month in 2022. AXARQUIA

Five towns of the Axarquía within the Circuit of performances of Peñas Flamencas (flamenco groups): {Translation}
– Gemma del Corral has highlighted that the aim of the Circuit is the dissemination of flamenco through the important associative fabric of the flamenco peñas. “The peñas play a very important role in the creation of an audience for flamenco, in the creation of social spaces for the fans and in the access to the public of young flamenco talents who, on the other hand, find in the peñas some of their first important stages”, she said.
– Specifically, the province of Málaga has a total of 43 federated peñas, in which thirty recitals will take place. This series of performances will pay tribute to Gonzalo Rojo’s career in Flamenco.
– The performances will be held between 23 June and 24 November, with five of them dedicated to the series of illustrated conferences, which this year revolves around the cantes abandolaos. The performances are free of charge and admission is free until full capacity is reached, with the following programme:

Another Performer Suddenly Dies Mid-Performance- Houston rap legend Big Pokey dead at 45:
– Legendary Houston rapper Big Pokey died after suddenly collapsing on stage while performing at a bar in the city of Beaumont on Saturday night. He was 45. Dramatic footage from the night of the concert shows Big Pokey gasping into the microphone mid-lyric while rapping at the Pour 09 Bar. He then falls on his back as shocked audience members looked on.
– Paramedics rushed to the stage and performed CPR before the rapper was taken to a nearby hospital just after midnight.
Authorities confirmed he died soon after the incident. His cause of death has not yet been released. Full article: https://nypost.com/2023/06/18/houston-rap-legend-big-pokey-dies-at-45-after-collapsing-on-stage/ & Tweet Link

FINANCIAL

World leaders headed to the Summit for a New Global Financial Pact in Paris push for global debt and climate reform in a “new consensus”:
– French President Emmanuel Macron has said the Summit for a New Global Financial Pact is aimed at building a “new consensus” to meet the interlinked global targets of tackling poverty, curbing planet-heating emissions and protecting nature. Ideas on the table range from taxation on shipping, fossil fuels or financial transactions, to innovations in lending and a structural rethink of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank.
– France says the two-day summit, which begins on Thursday and will bring together some 50 heads of state and government, was more of a platform for ideas sharing ahead of a cluster of major economic and climate meetings in the coming months. In particular, the French Presidency said on Friday it wanted to give “political impetus” to the idea of an international tax on carbon emissions from shipping, with hopes of a breakthrough at a meeting of the International Maritime Organization later in June.
– With trust in short supply over broken climate financing promises from richer countries, developing nations are looking for tangible progress.
– The V20 group of countries on the climate frontlines, which now includes 58 member nations, has said restructuring the global financial system to align with climate targets must be completed by 2030.
– Economies have been battered by successive shocks in recent years, including Covid-19, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, spiking inflation and the increasingly expensive impacts of weather disasters intensified by global warming. United Nations chief Antonio Guterres has said the pandemic and its aftermath amounted to a “stress test” for a financial system that was set up nearly eight decades ago.
– “It largely failed,” he said earlier this month, adding that 52 developing countries are in, or near, debt distress.
– Last week the World Bank also called for drastic reform to re-channel trillions of dollars in harmful and unnecessary subsidies for fossil fuels, agriculture and fishing into action on climate and nature. Finland Backlash – Finland’s conservative party picks ministers for new  right-wing coalition government including far-right, eurosceptic Finns Party :
– Finland’s conservative National Coalition Party, the winner of April’s general election, on Sunday unveiled its picks for key Cabinet posts in the upcoming government that observers say will be the most right-wing in the Nordic country’s recent history.
– Following lengthy talks over seven weeks, NCP announced Friday a deal with three other parties for a governing coalition that includes the far-right, eurosceptic Finns Party, which runs largely on a nationalist and anti-immigration agenda. HEALTH

Don’t Eat Mystery Meat! – A nutritionist reports on how crab sticks (surimi) are made and advises why they shouldn’t be eaten: {Translation, summary}
– Crab sticks are one of the ingredients that tend to be eaten without really knowing what kind of food is in it. In essence, we already see with the naked eye that it is processed. It stands out for a white and red colour that wants to imitate those of the crab, but with the naked eye we see that they are not natural.
– Mónica Barreal is the specialist who has analysed its composition, as she has discovered: “they are made with a paste that is surimi, which does not contain crab and does contain fish trash”. To give it colour, paprika is added, although in essence its composition is: “It has pieces of fish, egg protein, vegetable oils such as coconut. With all this the dough is made”.
– Despite this composition, the nutritionist’s response is: “There is nothing healthy here,” a radical statement that leads us to rethink what we put in the salad. A canned fish, such as sardines or anchovies can be better health allies.
Surimi may be fine for some occasions, but its regular consumption is not good. Source, Spanish: https://okdiario.com/curiosidades/peligroso-aviso-experta-sobre-este-alimento-aqui-no-hay-nada-salud-11065064

Minigolf La Herradura: Taking the Plunge
-The Secret Minigolf Password Promo. Still sitting on the wing’s edge, conceivably anxious, terrified even of taking the first tee and facing down eighteen holes of Minigolf designed to foil your mad pursuit of consecutive hole-in-ones and a possible course record?* Well, let me sweeten the pot. In honour of our stricken editor/publisher Naythan of DigameXtra, book your reservation via phone or WhatsApp thusly: State your name, add that you will be a first-time visitor to Minigolf La Herradura, tell me when you would like to play, how many people will be in your group, and most importantly, add at the end, “including Dr. Laptop”. ¡BINGO! You and the others in your group will be playing for half price! That’s right, 50% off the already crazy low admission prices. This offer stands even after what we assume will be the good doctor’s full recovery.
*(PS: I know the feeling. Pictured below is Señor Minigolf after having been not so gently nudged to a literal wing’s edge on his first skydive just east and 15000 metres above Sevilla. “You ready, Mister Scott?” asked my Italian instructor. I look back over my shoulder, “You still have a positive outlook on life, Luigi?” “I luva’ the life!”, he shouted. “Okay, then,” I say, “One, two, two and a quart- MINIGOLLFFFF!!!” [Don’t worry, first-timers at Minigolf are not required to carry an instructor on their back throughout the round.…])
-Admission fee: Current pricing is: six euros for 12 and unders, 8,50€ for 13 and over. Family discounts are also on offer such as 2 adults and 2 children for only 25 euros. This price includes all activities on the grounds and is valid for the entire day. Feel free to ring proprietor Scott Huston with any questions you might have on +34 603 416 632.
-Temporary Opening Hours: For the coming two weeks, I will be open officially from 6:00pm until 10:00pm six days a week (closed Wednesday). This is due to long-standing knee issues that I am trying to get taken care of before the high season of July and August. Please do not hesitate to call for a reservation from 11:30am on as I will probably be free, but I can’t guarantee it without at least two hours’ advance notice.
Best regards, Señor Minigolf, Scott Huston / La Herradura

Upgrade your skincare routine with this amazing beauty tool! Your skin will thank you. For both youthful and mature skin. Use the rose quartz roller to improve circulation, reduce stress and puffiness, brighten skin tone, and soothe skin irritation.

Churches & Worship

New Life Church: Whether you live in Nerja or are visiting our area, you are very welcome to come and join us at our Sunday gathering. Join us for a time of Holy Spirit led worship and experience the presence of our God. Our teaching is Bible based as we honour God and obey His Word. During this time of uncertainty, God’s Word reminds us that the Gospel shines brightest in times of darkness. Our service lasts for about 1 hour and 30 mins. With Tea and Coffee afterwards.
Jesus said, “I am the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me”. John 14:6

PETS

Forever homes needed for kittens: On behalf of a local animal charity, I have been fostering 2 Silver Tabby kittens since they were found abandoned at 3 weeks. They are now 10 weeks old and ready to go to a ‘forever home”. They are brother and sister, playful, clean, love being handled and cuddled. Would be ideal growing up with children to mature alongside them as family pets or someone who just loves cats!! They would give hours of pleasure.
If interested please contact me and come and see them.

Editor’s Note:
– Sorry readers, now both eyes are swollen. I’m going to keep today’s issue very short. I am dealing with some health problems, possibly the result of a spider bite to the neck, causing a reaction that triggered severe facial swelling,  accompanied by a Blood Pressure spike. At least that’s their current theory. I’ve been to the doctor, got BP meds and am awaiting blood test results. Hopefully I’ll be feeling better sometime this week. I will get user submissions posted, but don’t expect a lot of news unless a local crisis erupts. As the July national elections approach, most of the news is name-calling and electioneering anyway. Have a great week!

OBITUARY

Tony Pulle: I have sad news to tell you, that our friend Tony died on Tuesday after his short struggle with pancreatic cancer. He was a good supporter of Dígame/DigameXtra and true gentleman. He was interested in Spanish history and local culture and although lived in Germany, he spent his winters in Nerja and recently in Torrox when he attended the Arts Society, Nerja History group and U3A meetings. Tango was another of his great interests. We will miss him. Sandra and David Duncan. (Yes, I too will miss my friend Tony. When I was unable to shop while recovering from my Nolotil reaction in early 2017, Tony would bring me groceries every week, and wouldn’t accept a penny for them. He was a kind and caring soul. My condolences to his family in Germany. -Ed.)

Today is World Tapas Day:
– World Tapas Day, observed annually on the third Thursday of June, is an international holiday celebrating the small Spanish Tapa dish that is usually served with drinks.
– The word ‘tapas’ is derived from the Spanish verb ‘tapar,’ which means ‘to cover,’ a variation of the English word ‘top.’ In Spain, before the 19th century, tapas were served in posadas, albergues, or bodegas, which offered meals and rooms to travelers. Because few innkeepers and travelers could read and write, samples of the dishes were made available by innkeepers on a ‘tapa,’ which is a Spanish word for ‘pot cover.’
– According to the book “The Joy of Cooking,” the first tapas were thin slices of bread or meat which sherry drinkers used to cover their glasses between sips to prevent fruit flies from hovering over their drink. The meat was normally ham or chorizo, both of which are very salty and activate thirst. This made bartenders and restaurant owners create a variety of snacks to serve with sherry, invariably increasing their alcohol sales. The tapas eventually became as important as the sherry. Tapas have evolved through Spanish history with new ingredients and influences.
– The discovery and emergence of the New World birthed the introduction of tomatoes, sweet and chili peppers, which were readily accepted and grown in Spain’s microclimates, further contributing to the culture of tapas as we know it today. Since 2008, the city of Valladolid in Spain and the International School of Culinary Arts have celebrated the International Tapas Competition for Culinary Schools — an annual competition in Spain between global culinary schools to compete for the best tapa concept. Editor’s Note, updated:

SPAIN

Health workers and psychologists got into Spanish public employment services thanks to forged university degrees & certificates: {Translation, summary}
– The clients of the network for the purchase of fraudulent university degrees were mainly in the health, academic and economic fields. Some of these people managed to register in public employment exchanges thanks to these documents. Investigations by the Provincial Information Brigade of the National Police have managed to close down two of these websites in proceedings that are still open and under the secrecy of summary proceedings.
– The agents have discovered that this criminal organisation had been operating since 2013 through websites where they offered this type of services. From undergraduate to graduate degrees. They also simulated qualifications in English or vocational training.
– The criminals offered all-inclusive packages in which they sent, from the Dominican Republic, the documents in physical or digital format or a certified photocopy. Depending on the complexity and importance of the products, the price could range from 500 to 1,000 euros.
– These “almost perfect” copies, according to sources in the investigation, were sent to Spain via a parcel delivery company. Such was the impunity of this network that they even let their clients choose which marks to put on their academic transcript.
– Sources of the investigation explain to Vozpópuli that it is common to find scams with this type of university degree on the internet. “Many people ask for a degree, pay for it and then they don’t receive it”, they point out. Hence the importance of this investigation, as now many of the clients were practising without the corresponding professional certificate. MALAGA

The terral will send the thermometers in Malaga soaring to 35 degrees this Wednesday: {Translation}
– The first terral episode of the summer is already in Malaga. And we are still a few days away from the official start of the summer season. After several weeks of lulls, with rain and storms, in which temperatures have been rather mild, the thermometers are beginning to rise and this Wednesday 14th June they will soar to 35 degrees.
-The municipalities of Cártama, Coín, Pizarra and Álora will be the ones with the highest temperatures, reaching 34-35 degrees, according to the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). In general, almost all the towns in the interior of the Guadalhorce Valley will exceed 30 degrees from midday onwards, and will not fall below that mark, predictably, until ten o’clock at night.
– On the coast, Malaga city could also reach 33 degrees this Wednesday, with minimum temperatures of 21 degrees Celsius, while in the westernmost part of the coast there will be 29 degrees in Torremolinos, Benalmadena and Mijas, reaching 31 degrees in Manilva and Estepona. In the easternmost part of the coast, Rincón de la Victoria and Vélez-Málaga, two towns that are always more affected by the terral, will also exceed 30 degrees, while further out it will be around 25-26 in Torrox and Nerja.
– This will be the start of several days of sweltering heat in the province of Malaga, although Meteorology expects the terral to withdraw on Thursday, with the gradual arrival of the Levante wind. Already this Tuesday it has reached 31.3 degrees Celsius at the capital’s airport and 30.6 in the municipality of Coín. These were the two highest temperatures recorded during the day, marked by the strong westerly wind that forced the Aemet to activate a yellow warning for coastal phenomena between 14:00 and 00:00 hours, due to winds from the west and southwest of 50 to 60 kilometres per hour, with waves up to three metres high. Estepona is to mark the summer solstice with its fifth Fiesta de la Música, a French-theme event that will take place in Plaza Antonia Guerrero {pic} on Wednesday 21 June at 8pm.
The free music festival (Fête de la Musique in French) began in France in 1982 and has since spread to 120 countries. The objective is to promote amateur French-speaking musicians and bands of any genre and give them a chance to perform live in front of an audience. Editor’s Note:
– I am dealing with some health problems, possibly the result of a spider bite to the neck, causing a reaction that triggered severe facial swelling, closing one eye, accompanied by a Blood Pressure spike. SPAIN

Spain to Extend Tax Cuts on Basic Foods Ahead of July Snap Vote:
– While headline inflation in Spain has eased below 3% so far this year, food costs are still increasing at a double-digit rate.
– With elections looming next month, the Spanish government of Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez plans to extend tax breaks on staple foods until living costs ease further. “We will maintain a lower value-added tax on basic food items for as long as we don’t reach adequate price levels,” Economy Minister Nadia Calvino told reporters Monday at the headquarters of Sanchez’s Socialist party in Madrid.

Sanctions On Russia Fade – Spain’s gas purchases from Russia soared in May, five times more than from the US: {Translation, summary}
– Turnaround in the supply of natural gas in Spain. Last month, Russia became the second supplier of this hydrocarbon to the Spanish gas network with 27.8% of the total, only surpassed by Algeria (28.3%) and five times the United States (5.7%), which since the end of 2021 was the first or second origin of the gas that was consumed in the Iberian Peninsula.
– Gas imports from Russia have grown abruptly with the PSOE-Podemos coalition government led by Pedro Sánchez and Pablo Iglesias. In fact, the current volume until May 2023 already exceeds gas purchases from Russia in 2021 and is more than doubling (+135%) compared to 2022. The increase in LNG trade with Russia is on track to multiply by ten this year compared to the figures for gas arriving in Spain from there in 2018. Costa del Sol theme parks finally show recovery from pandemic with strong tourism figures: The return of school excursions to theme parks has been one of the contributing reasons why they are bouncing back, as well as international tourism. “With respect to 2019 our turnover is up five per cent, but what is happening is that operating costs have increased so much that the balance is negative, down three per cent,” marketing director of Bioparc Fuengirola, Marta Pérez, said. TORROX

Mayor of Torrox, Óscar Medina says ‘Our marina will be like the one in Puerto Banús’, plus a new golf course “like a Sotogrande”:
– The acting mayor of Torrox, Óscar Medina, has spoken about his aim to make Torrox “the Puerto Banús” of the eastern side of the Costa del Sol on La Alameda, the television programme produced by SUR and 101TV.
– During the interview, Medina announced one of his major projects for Torrox: the marina, which he claims will be similar to that of Puerto Banús and says will “an example of sustainability”.
– He also spoke of his plans to build a golf course in the town. “It would be like a Sotogrande for foreigners,” said the mayor. It is linked to luxury housing, hotels and commercial areas, all related to his commitment to “quality tourism”.
The mayor acknowledged that he had not declared Torrox a tourist town so that on Sundays the large supermarkets cannot open and “people would shop in the local shops”.
