ANNUAL HOLIDAY FUNDRAISER
I can only produce DigameXtra with the financial support of my readers. Once a year, during the year end holidays, I do an 8 week fundraiser to help pay production expenses throughout the whole year. This year’s goal is to receive donations from 4% of subscribers. This “4% Club” finances DigameXtra for the 96% group that don’t donate. Which group will you belong to? The generosity of the 4% Club members is greatly appreciated.
Just like your morning coffee,

– Holiday Donation Info, 2 Methods –
DigameXtra subscribers must donate at least €20 (39 cents per week) to gain annual submission posting privileges.
#1. You may drop cash donations off in person and say hello, by appointment, or place them in my mailbox beside my door anytime. Please be sure to include your name on the envelope so I can put you on the list of subscribers with submission posting privileges for 2025-2026! Due to health reasons, unannounced drop-ins are inconvenient for me. But if I am expecting you, no problem! My mailbox has the name HARRIS on it. Email me for map and directions. Cash donations are strongly preferred.
#2. Alternatively, you may send me an Amazon ES (Spain) “eGift card” by email. You need to have an Amazon.es account. The only info you need is my email address and your name (the sender’s name). Remember, this is an “eGift card” you buy that Amazon.es emails directly to me, don’t buy a plain “gift card”. Use the link provided below to access the “eGift card” purchase page.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND AMAZON UK eGIFT CARDS. NO BANK TRANSFERS OR PAYMENT APPS.
Here is the Amazon.es eGift Card Link, (NOTE: YOU CAN CHOOSE ANY AMOUNT YOU LIKE ON THE FORM, THE DEFAULT IS €60):

Para/For : digamextra@protonmail.com
Please do not ask me about gaining posting privileges by making small donations of under €20, several times a year. Several people promised to do that for each of the last two annual fundraisers, and not a single one followed up.
Total Donations Received As Of Today: 67
Target, 4% of subscribers = 200 donations

Reader Support Makes Accurate News Possible at DigameXtra: {Summary of yesterday’s lengthy news-note}
– Most Spanish news websites now rely heavily on Artificial Intelligence (AI) to generate articles. While reviewing content from 50 to 100 sites daily, I regularly encounter errors, contradictions and outright falsehoods. Many AI written pieces look credible at first glance but include incorrect details or even invented sources.
– AI itself admits it is unreliable. ChatGPT, for example, warns users on every page that it can make mistakes {pic}. Despite this, many newsrooms, focused on cutting costs, have dismissed human reporters and editors, replacing them with AI driven operations. Articles are often copied, sometimes lightly rewritten, then republished across multiple outlets, usually originating from the same few wire services. Each news outlet proudly claims authorship of the duplicated content. All the local Spanish language news outlets post the same articles, even the same photos!
– I refuse to work this way. Every article I post is checked for accuracy, sources are verified, and misleading claims are flagged with editorial comments and references. I write concise summaries to spare readers unnecessary filler, clearly separate opinion from fact, and always link to the original Spanish source so readers can verify the content themselves.
– This approach takes far more time and effort than simple copying, especially when research and translation are involved. However, I believe DigameXtra offers a clear improvement over the prevailing mainstream media wasteland. A well informed community benefits everyone. If you agree, please consider supporting the DigameXtra Holiday Fundraiser so this work can continue. Thank you.

Drivers Criticise DGT Connected V16 Beacons Over Poor Visibility and Road Safety Concerns: {Translation, summary}
– The results offered by the Connected V16 beacons of the Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) on Spanish roads are surely not what was expected. Several drivers are sharing videos on social media highlighting and demonstrating the poor visibility and other negative aspects of some models of this new advance warning system, even at night.
– For this reason, beyond the economic cost, general frustration is high, and Spanish drivers feel that the DGT has forced them to replace emergency triangles with connected V16 beacons by 1 January 2026, which not only do not reduce the risk of breakdowns on the road but may even increase it.
**What problems do drivers report with the V16s?**
– Firstly, the main complaints point to the limited visibility these devices provide in daylight, as it is really difficult to perceive the 360-degree “flash” of light from the V16s during the day, as acknowledged by the Head of the Telematics area of the DGT, Monserrat Estaca, in an interview with 20 Minutos Motor: “The V16s work worst in daylight”.
– However, in some videos shared on social media by drivers, it can also be hard to detect the presence of an emergency at night. This is because of the ineffectiveness of the visibility, after curves or changes in gradient, poses a hazard, as mobility experts have warned in recent months.
– In some footage, only the turn signal of a passing vehicle is visible before the driver notices the broken-down car. The situation is even more surprising when the only visible emergency lights are those factory-fitted on the broken-down car until the driver filming passes it, at which point the V16 beacon on the roof is finally noticeable.
– Other complaints relate to the usefulness of the device’s connectivity via the SIM card linked to the DGT 3.0 platform. This feature helps the DGT identify emergencies, but not drivers on roads without interactive panels, and some note they do not yet know if apps such as Waze or Google Maps will integrate this information. The King reminds the new prosecutors of their commitment to “ethics” and the “rule of law” {How did he keep a straight face?}: {Translation, summary}
– King Felipe VI welcomed the new cohort of prosecutors of the 63rd promotion, emphasising the importance of “professional ethics” and the “Rule of Law”. He urged them to remember that their work will impact society, requiring “sensitivity, prudence, professional ethics and a deep commitment to public service”, and encouraged them to “look ahead with enthusiasm, with confidence” while recognising the effort and dedication that led them to this point. He also extended thanks to families and trainers, noting “every posting offers opportunity”.
– Attorney General Teresa Peramato highlighted the significance of the King presiding over the event and celebrated the new prosecutors’ achievements. She stressed their role as “the voice of those who are disadvantaged, the protection of those who suffer”, urging them to start their careers “with humility, but also with greatness”. The ceremony concluded with commissions delivered to 76 new prosecutors, 75% women, symbolising the ongoing renewal and diversity of the Spanish Prosecutor’s Office. AXARQUÍA
El Borge restores its drinking water service after several weeks of waiting: {Translation, summary}
– El Borge has officially declared its water safe for human consumption following analyses showing chlorate levels within permitted limits. The restoration was achieved through coordinated work by the Axarquía Health District, the public company Axaragua, a contracted laboratory and municipal maintenance services. Mayor Raúl Vallejo confirmed that after consecutive days of positive results and the implementation of corrective measures, the Municipal Supply Network is now fully potable. He also announced a set of ten preventive measures to prevent future issues.
– Previously, El Borge, along with Iznate and Totalán, had suspended water use due to excessive chlorate, caused by issues with chlorine disinfection. Iznate has since returned to normal. Totalán remains without potable water as authorities continue to clean reservoirs and pipelines, with Mayor Miguel Ángel Escaño noting that chlorate can adhere to pipes. He expects the service to be restored in the coming days as work progresses effectively. Source, Spanish: https://www.malagahoy.es/provincia/borge-vuelve-restablecer-servicio-agua_0_2005471112.html
MALAGA PROVINCE
Málaga Employers See Strong Growth Prospects but Warn Structural Weaknesses Could Stall Progress: {Translation, summary}
– The Confederation of Employers of Málaga reports that the province’s main economic indicators remain favourable, supporting continued growth and leadership within Andalucía. However, it warns that structural weaknesses could hinder future socioeconomic development. Expectations for growth at the end of 2025 are higher than those of other Andalusian provinces and above national and European averages, yet employers note mounting pressure on the middle class from rising living costs, inflation, and tax burdens.
– Málaga stands out for the creation of new companies, accounting for a large share of regional start ups, although the business fabric is highly fragmented, dominated by micro enterprises and firms without employees. Employment has reached record levels, but the pace of unemployment reduction is slowing, partly due to a growing active population. Companies also struggle to fill vacancies, even while many people remain unemployed.
– The CEM highlights skills mismatches affecting key sectors and calls for policies to improve labour market access for young people, older workers, and migrants. It also warns about rising workplace absenteeism, insufficient infrastructure investment, housing shortages, and limited productive land. While export performance is positive, these combined pressures could undermine Málaga’s growth if left unaddressed. The Verdiales Festival in Malaga reaches its 64th edition on 28 December with the participation of 28 bands: {Translation, summary}
– The 64th Verdiales Main Festival will take place on 28 December at Andrés Jiménez Díaz Park, Puerto de la Torre, starting at 12.00. Twenty-eight pandas (groups) will perform, representing the Comares, Montes and Almogía styles, with awards for categories such as fiesta, partner dance, braid dance, flag or bajín dance, and best singer. Children will receive gifts for participating in partner and flag dances. The event, presented by José Luis Ramos ‘Pepelu’, is central to the preservation and promotion of Verdiales, supported annually by Málaga City Council through a subsidy agreement. Verdiales, a peasant-origin festive tradition, combine singing, dancing and music with instruments including violin, guitars and tambourine, and feature the alcalde and standard-bearer in key roles. The festival is closely tied to the Montes region and its cultural and ecological context. Source, Spanish: https://www.malagahoy.es/malaga/fiesta-mayor-verdiales-malaga-pandas_0_2005475836.html
ALMUÑÉCAR
The Aquarium and the Municipal Market of Almuñécar already have an opening date: {Translation, summary}
– Almuñécar Town Council used a press event to announce two key milestones marking the end of 2025 and the outlook for 2026. Mayor Juanjo Ruiz Joya confirmed that the Almuñécar Aquarium will reopen on 29 December, following years of technical problems and closures that had left the facility almost abandoned. He stressed the scale of work required to make the installations suitable for public access again.
– Looking ahead to 2026, the mayor announced that the Municipal Market will be inaugurated on 28 February, describing it as a long awaited project and a future driving force for local commerce and the city’s history. He stated that the market aims to combine modern facilities with traditional elements, positioning it among the most advanced in Andalucía. Although the inauguration date has been set, the exact date for public opening will be confirmed later, once agreement is reached with traders, with expectations pointing to early March. An abandoned baby is found in a doorway in Madre de Dios: {Translation, summary}
– Residents of Madre de Dios discovered a newborn abandoned in the doorway of a building on Calle Cráter, Sevilla {pic}, on Monday afternoon. The infant, only a few days old and completely naked, was taken by a neighbour to a pharmacy for nappies and milk. The National Police were immediately alerted, verified the report, and requested an ambulance. The baby, in good condition, was transferred to Virgen del Rocío Hospital for a thorough medical examination.
– The initial intervention was conducted by the Citizen Security Brigade, known as the Zetas, and a report was prepared detailing the incident and the people who assisted the child. The case is now being handled by the Family and Women’s Care Unit (UFAM), which is investigating the baby’s parents and the reasons for abandonment. The incident could constitute a crime of abandonment and recalls a similar case two years ago in Los Palacios, where a baby was found alive after being left in a rubbish container. ESTEPONA
Embezzlement in Estepona- request for 4 years in prison for the mayor and 2 for his adviser: {Translation, summary}
– The PSOE, acting as popular prosecution, has requested four years’ imprisonment and eight years’ disqualification from public office for the mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano (PP), for alleged embezzlement linked to the hiring of a woman with whom he had a close friendship. For the woman, the prosecution seeks two years’ imprisonment and six years’ disqualification as an accomplice.
– The prosecution claims both should compensate the Estepona City Council for salaries improperly received over February and March 2023, totalling 7,862.89 euros. García Urbano’s partial repayment is considered incomplete.
– The case centres on evidence that the woman performed no work in her advisory role, had no office or work records, and received a prior 21,000-euro payment for personal expenses. The court has authorised the continuation of proceedings, and the trial will include interrogations and documentation to establish the personal relationship and absence of duties. – The ‘Gypsy King’ is giving all indications that he will make a comeback next year, ending his ‘retirement’ from the sport after back-to-back defeats against Oleksandr Usyk.
– Several names are thought to be in the running, with Fury first naming a trilogy with Usyk as his ideal plan for 2026. Reports have since emerged that Fury is set to face bitter rival Anthony Joshua next year, as well as facing another opponent beforehand. Fury has named both Joshua and Usyk as part of an extensive list of names he could face. CSIF reports that a lack of technical staff and more than 400 patients at the Materno hospital are awaiting breast examinations: {Translation}
– The Independent and Civil Servants’ Trade Union (CSIF) has demanded that the management of Málaga’s Regional Hospital urgently hire more staff to prevent the collapse of the Maternal and Child Hospital, where more than 400 patients are waiting for breast tests and delays of up to four months are building up in the Radiodiagnostic Service.
– The CSIF has condemned the “chronic collapse” at Málaga’s Maternal and Child Hospital due to the shortage of staff in Radiodiagnostics, which is causing significant delays in crucial tests needed for the diagnosis of serious illnesses. According to the union, over 400 patients have been waiting for breast tests since October and November, with closed appointment schedules and delays stretching to four months. The situation also affects paediatric patients and has led to the suspension of tumour committees, essential for determining cancer treatments.
– CSIF is demanding an immediate action plan and the hiring of between 15 and 20 specialist technicians, as well as the full coverage of vacancies and the reopening of afternoon clinics. Health professionals of Malaga denounce the deficit of about 200 health workers- ”The situation is chaotic”: {Translation, summary}
– Healthcare staff in Málaga protested again on Wednesday, a week after four days of nationwide strike action, citing severe staff shortages at Virgen de la Victoria Hospital, including Hospital Clínico. Almost 100 participants carried banners declaring the hospital “collapsed,” with staff shortages of at least 150 nurses and 50–60 doctors, along with insufficient TCAE personnel and orderlies.
– The protest responds to the non-implementation of an agreement signed on 29 October to increase staffing and limit internal worker movements. Juan Antonio Martos, president of the Staff Board, described the hospital as “chaotic,” with heavier workloads, longer waiting lists, and poorer patient care. The Emergency Department and hospital wards such as oncology, haematology, and internal medicine are most affected.
– Protesters called for the Andalusian Health Service to act immediately and indicated a new strike will be planned if agreements are not honoured. Source, Spanish: https://www.malagahoy.es/malaga/profesionales-sanitarios-hospital-clinico-malaga-situacion-caotica_0_2005475200.html

Mammogate Update- Victims of screening who have developed breast cancer ask for “the truth” and assure that there are “301 and not 23”: {Translation, summary}
– Women affected by failures in Andalusia’s breast cancer screening programme are demanding transparency over the true number of patients who developed cancer due to delays in diagnostic testing. Through the association Amama, they assert that at least 301 women, not the official figure of 23, were affected, highlighting a significant discrepancy.
– Across multiple provinces, including Cádiz, Almería, Jaén, Sevilla, and Málaga, patients stress the importance of acknowledging the scale of the problem, rejecting the lower numbers as misleading. ‘Don’t say there are 23, there are more than 300 of us.’ They accuse Juanma Moreno of ‘coldness, impudence and shamelessness.’ Finally, they call for ‘the truth to prevail.’ ‘We are fed up with politics based on lies,’ they concluded. A total of 436,118 deaths were recorded, with 220,090 men and 216,028 women. Circulatory diseases were the second most common cause, followed by respiratory, nervous system and digestive disorders.
– Among men, cancer accounted for 30.8% of deaths, followed by circulatory (24.7%) and respiratory diseases (12.2%). Among women, ischemic heart disease (27.5%) was the most common cause, followed by cancer (22.1%) and respiratory diseases (10.8%). FINANCIAL
Loans and gifts between parents and children- many do not declare them, but it is a tax obligation: {Translation, summary}
– Financial gifts or loans between family members, such as money to buy a house, pay for education, or cover expenses, must be properly documented and declared to the Spanish Tax Agency to avoid penalties, though most are exempt from tax. Loans with repayment obligations are treated under the Property Transfers and Documented Legal Acts Tax (ITP-AJD) and require a formal contract specifying lender, recipient, amount, repayment terms, and interest. Beneficiaries must submit form 600 within 30 days.
– Loans between family members are exempt if interest-free, but interest must be declared as capital income. In contrast, donations from parents to children fall under the Inheritance and Donations Tax (ISD), which varies by autonomous community. Some regions, such as Madrid, offer nearly full exemptions, while others, like Catalonia, provide none. Recipients must declare donations within a month, and failure to do so may result in fines or classification as unjustified capital gains. Tax calculation considers the taxable base, relationship to the donor, regional rates, and applicable deductions or bonifications.
