They were abandoned in an olive grove at 2 weeks old and are now 7 weeks but only have a home for another 3 weeks and are desperately in need of a permanent home before then. One male and one female.

Can anyone suggest where we could for a cheap telephone service?
Currently BB4S provide us with English T.V.and the internet. Our phone is a telefonica landline.

BB4S were supposed to be providing the cheaper phone service but due to a fire they have been unable to do this and we are left with telefonica.

International calls are expensive and probably local calls as well.

Our monthly bills are very high.

Recommendation –Holiday accommodation registration

Following successful letting of my finca,

I am now required to register the accommodation with the Andalucian authorities.

Has anyone filled in the form, submitted it and had their property registered or has engaged a “professional” to do the job for them? I would be grateful for advice as. having seen the form, I would definitely struggle on my own.

Recommendation –Bowen Therapy

Further to the post by Freya, I too had Bowen Therapy for a painful shoulder, after 4 sessions I was able to move my shoulder normally. I had my treatment by Tim Denham who works out of a room at The Vega Restaurant, Torre Del Mar.  I would thoroughly recommend him. If interested go along on a Tuesday morning between 12-2 and ask for Tim.

I had some trouble with Amazon.es some time ago and in the end I contacted Amazon.co.uk giving them the order no. and explained the problem. They contacted me by return and sorted it out with Spain.

In answer to Jeremy of Algarrobo, I had a problem with an order that went missing en route from German Amazon, amazon.de, so I phoned Amazon’s help desk in England (tel. 0044 207 084 7911), gave them the order and tracking numbers, explained I couldn’t understand the amazon.de website, and they contacted them for me and sorted it out. Maybe that will work for you. Good luck.

Amazon.es ?
Can anyone throw any light as to how one can contact Amazon.es.

They have debited me twice on the same day for one item, bought online with
my Debit Card, I contacted my Bank, Barclays in Jersey, and they told
me I have to go back to the merchant.
Have examined the Amazon website, but cannot find how to contact them.

Yesterday afternoon, at 4:30pm, I sent off an urgently needed package from from MRW depot located on Calle Verdemar in Torre del Mar. The Package was received at its destination in Cadiz, at a little after 9:00am this morning. Cost was suprisingly reasonable…a little less than 13 euros.

If you are going to send a package, be sure to supply the contact number of the person at the receiving end.

I am Freya Aswynn I am 67.
I had a very bad fall in London in August, on the way to the airport, it hurt my upper arm.
When I came home, it became worse gradually, I was losing movement.
I could not paint and write/type, swim, housework, I was well f&&ed.

She recommended Bowen Therapy and gave me this she is very, very good.
The treatment worked, I had two sessions and I can type again and paint. I can do everything again. I strongly recommend Bianca. She is very gentle and effective and very reasonable priced.

Recommendation-for MRW Courier/Package Deliveries.

Yesterday afternoon, at 4:30pm, I sent off an urgently need packge from from MRW depot located on Calle Verdemar in Torre del Mar. The Package was received at its destination in Cadiz, at a little after 9:00am this morning. Cost was suprisingly reasonable…a little less than 13 euros.

If you are going to send a package, be sure to supply the contact number of the person at the receiving end.

When I came home, it became worse gradually, I was losing movement.

Recommendation – Personal training

I don’t normally give recommendations unless I am really impressed – well I have been very, very impressed by the personal training services offered by Adam Irving of HotBod health and fitness.

I was feeling very unfit and struggled to get up hills without huffing and puffing.

I am an asthma sufferer with arthritic joints. So in the end the more I didn’t exercise the more I couldn’t exercise, it was a bit of a downward cycle.

Then I met Adam just over 8 weeks ago.

He comes to my house twice a week to help me to get fitter – and it’s working.

I can feel the changes happening. Clothes fit better, in fact I am fitting into clothes that I have not worn for years!   I can walk up the big hill in Competa without puffing and I feel so much better in myself

I sleep better and wake up feeling refreshed – I have not felt like that for years!!.

Adam is working to my abilities, but he gently pushes to make me do a bit more each time so I can progress.  He is gentle and does not shout at me.  Overall Adam is a nice young man who works very professionally to give you the best service possible

41 Club Nerja (Ex Round Tablers) 

Eighteen couples from 41 Club Nerja (Ex Round Tablers) spent a wonderful three days in Villamora in Portugal at the ‘Cluster’ of the six 41 Clubs on the Iberian Cluster.  The photographs show the team ready to join the rest of the 200 plus members and wives in attendance at the formal gala dinner.  The Clubs involved are found in the Algarve, Costa del Sol, Nerja, Gibralta, Mallorca and Costa Blanca.

Our 41 Club has found eight new members in the last three months taking our membership to forty five and we are always looking for new blood.  Most of our members do not live in Spain full time making us somewhat of a ‘drop-in’ club.  So if you are around from one month to twelve moths per year and you are an Ex Round Tabler you are most welcome.

We have an International flavour to 41 Club Nerja with nine different countries being represented.  We involve our ladies by taking them out for a lunch every first Thursday of the month which we call our ‘Munch Bunch’.  On the third Thursday the gents have our 41 Clib meeting and those wives that wish to join us in the bar for a drink and then go off for a meal and join us later.

Inspiration fuels art. There are times when the artist desperately chases their muse and times when they patiently wait for it to find them in their studio, but they know that nothing resonates without it. When artists from all over the world come together to share a single workspace for a week, this elusive inspiration naturally starts to percolate. On 16 October 2016, 10 artists traveled from 9 different countries (Belarus, Israel, India, Azerbaijan, Armenia, The Netherlands, Belgium, Hungary and Denmark) to the picturesque mountain village of Cómpeta, Málaga, Spain for the 2nd International Art Symposium LUZ to begin making new works. While they came from different artistic disciplines and spoke entirely differently languages, each artist made the long journey to Cómpeta to share in this exciting new experience together. Organized by Cómpeta artist and gallery owner Lieuwke Loth, the town of Cómpeta turned their Town Hall into the Salón de Actos for one week, inviting visitors to observe and talk with each artist at work. During this period, 17-22 October, these artists were also given the rare opportunity to observe and connect with each other while they worked, learn new processes and techniques, and ultimately use it to inform their own work. The International Art Symposium LUZ gives as much to the town of Cómpeta as it does to its artists. On the first day of the symposium there was a public introduction of each artist along with a slideshow of their work. Then, for the next five days residents and tourists were able to see how the village of Cómpeta influences each artist through the work they produce. While Cómpeta is already thriving with working artists and international visitors, the Symposium event gives both locals and tourists a venue to engage with one another instead of simply passing each other in the town’s narrow streets. This year’s symposium featured a bronze casting workshop, where master caster Daan van Neerven lead participants through the steps of casting their own small wax sculpture in bronze. The group exhibition at the end of the symposium was not just a display of the pieces that were created during this time, but a celebration of Cómpeta’s role in bringing together so many different cultures and nationalities. As artists and visitors left the symposium at the end of the week they undoubtedly returned to their countries describing a place of immaculate beauty, inspiring creative energy, and abundant support for arts and culture. The artists‘ works remain on display at Gallery Luz de la Vida from 22 October through 26 November. The International Symposium puts an international spotlight on this small mountain village, building it a reputation as an exciting, creative haven for artists and art lovers alike. From Saturday 22 October on, all the work is exhibited in Gallery Luz de la Vida to show the final results of the week. The exhibition will be on show till Saturday 26 November.

What’s on- Visit to Rute

The Phoenix Club is off on Friday 25th November 2016 to visit Rute, an inland village in the province of Cordoba.  It is a lovely drive and once there we will visit their chocolate and biscuit factory and ooh and ahh at their famous Belen made entirely of chocolate.  In addition we visit the Azucar Museum where we will see their fabulous sugar creations made entirely of sugar, in the afternoon we will pop into the Anise Museum where we will be able to sample their wares and buy a bottle or two for Christmas and also taste their sausages, a delicacy of the region.

Rute’s primary economy centres on the extensive production of foodstuffs including dozens of different makes of Anis and traditional Spanish hams.

Rute comes from the word “Ruta” or “Route” in English. A route that Spanish soldiers followed when they were going to conquest Granada was the beginning of Rute. Later, the first “anis” factory was opened. Because of this, more factories were opened and this municipality became one of the most important makers of anis for over the world. Today, most of these factories are still open and a lot of people go to Rute at Christmas for the sweets that are made there.

Recommendation- Taekwondo Teacher

If you are thinking of taking up Taekwondo as a new student, already know some martial arts and would like to continue your learning, I would highly recommend the classes that are given by Alan Williams. Lessons are given twice a week, Monday and Thursday mornings from 10:30 to 11.30 am, at the Torrox sports complex.

The lessons always start with a good aerobic warm up, incorporating  stretching and simple gymnastics, then progresses through to learning new, and practicing previous kicks, blocks and strikes. Also taught, are some excellent techniques for good self defence.

Students are both men and women of all ages, some with little or no martial arts experience. Alan is himself a 2nd degree black belt and makes the course challenging but doable for everyone.

To all home property owners in the Manzano Alto/Paga Santilla area.

The Town Hall have said that they will part-subsidize some improvements to the track. Please see the associated image. There are various sections currently suggested for improvement – principally the worst parts of the track come the bad weather. However, as the total distance proposed is almost equal to the distance between the existing concreted track (stopping at the water well just past the land fill site) and the concreted junction at the cross roads, I think it worth suggesting that the Town Hall consider concreting this entire length of track – people using this route would all benefit and share the cost equally. The associated image shows the existing concreted zones in blue and the proposed zones in red. Costs are unknown at this time, but the Town Hall have stated that for every three lorry loads of concrete, they will pay for a fourth. So it’s up to us who use this route. I have a list of people interested but would like to hear from others. Anybody with Google Earth on your computers can also click on the attached kmz file which, when double clicked, will open Google Earth on your computer and take you to the zone concerned.

Car Batteries

An observation on car batteries in general, firstly car batteries have a shorter useful life than you may think

and in this day and age of cars with sophisticated computers even more so, even a small drop in the effective

output of a battery can and often will cause spurious messages to be displayed on the cars warning system which

is exactly what happened to my son a few weeks ago; his car suddenly displayed gear box overheated and refused

to restart, fortunately his garage recognised the problem and changed the battery which instantly cured the problem

and I leave you to imagine the size of the bill had the garage been unscrupulous or just less knowledgeable.

In the in the UK it is recommended that you replace your car battery after a maximum of 4 years and contrary to

what many consider to be the theory that living in Spain makes life easier for car batteries I must point

out that the higher ambient temperatures in Spain in fact shortens the life of batteries, couple this with our short

journey life style you may understand that the poor old car battery actually struggles to keep us on the road.

If you think the above comment is alarmist I suggest you fire up the google and ask the question.

The Spanish Pioneer archaeologists in Morocco in the Golden Age of Archaeology

A story of war, kidnappings, Berber Bandoleros, and some Spanish Indiana Jones…

The lecture is about the Spanish archaeologists and historians who developed their research in North Morocco at the time of what in Spain is called the “African War” (1909-1927), when Spain was trying to establish her Protectorate in the Northern part of Morocco in accordance with the results (and the mandate) of the International Treaties signed in the Conference of Algeciras (1906); these scholars worked in the field under war conditions, for instance in the Tetouan area, at the Roman (and pre-Roman) site of Tamuda, war front between 1919 and 1925, where César Montalbán was working in 1919, 1920 and 1921 until the war situation made the archaeological research stop – not to be restarted until 1940.

It is also the period of WW II, when some of our Spanish archeologists in Morocco even had some contacts with the Allies through the American Consolate in Tangier: while the world was struggling in war, some of these heroes of Archaeology and History, such as Pelayo Quintero, were developing their research in several sites as Lixus, Alcazarseguer or Tamuda.

It is a very interesting topic, a period really “apasionante”, with war, battles, pioneers of Archaeology (those are as well the times of Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon in Egypt, for instance) working in the worst conditions, and spectacular results of their research.

I was supposed to be driving to Cartama today – (Sunday), but have just had a red STOP sign appear on the computer system as I was driving along, with a battery icon and the words ‘Avería Recarga’.

Google and Bing Search Problem: Searches Returning OLD Contact Links Instead of Newest Links at Top of Results; Until They Fix It, add current year to search terms to get newest results first.

For example, if you search, “doctorlaptop nerja 2016”, it works fine.  However, leave out the “2016” and the results bring you to a 5 year’s old blog site I don’t even remember with outdated info!

While this should be corrected soon, Search Engines are changing and there are problems to be expected , instead of returning the latest, new info on a search term, Google and Bing have been often returning old, out of date search results and burying the new info entries far below. Try http://www.duckduckgo.com for a fresh approach to searching.

Further to Friday’s post, the formula for calculating this tax has indeed changed.

For properties in Nerja, the formula is :

Valor Catastral x 2% x 19.50%

However, for properties in Torrox, the formula is;

Valor Catastral x 1.1% x  19.50%

The tax needs to be paid by the end of the year.

Join us for our Spanish Cookery Workshop on Tuesday 22nd November at Casa Montes Negros, organic farm.

We will be preparing a variety of traditional Spanish dishes from the north to the south of Spain. Through the dishes offered on the menu, we will be exploring the main ingredients and spices used in Spanish cookery.

A fun day out for both experienced cooks  who fancy a great day out with like-minded foodies, or new cooks wanting to learn some basic recipes.

The workshop starts at 10.30 and finishes at around 4 p.m. and includes all the ingredients, lunch at the beautiful mountain finca in the foothills of La Maroma mountain, and your folder of recipes to take home.  Cost 30 euros.

Puppy Needs Home

We are looking for a good home for a lovely, intelligent bitch puppy who was abandoned outside our house several weeks ago.
She has been to the vet and now had her second jag, been deflead & wormed. Vet thinks she is about 10 weeks old now. She has a lovely nature & is so quick to learn. She asks out when she needs to spend a penny & sleeps through the night most nights. We’ve called her Duffy.
It looks as if she’ll be small Labrador size, going by her feet. We go back to the UK on a regular basis, next trip in a few weeks so it is essential to find a home soon. She is also making my wife’s asthma worse but we couldn’t leave her to starve.

1. Brexit and what British living in spain should do.

When recently the Brexit was voted, the Association “Brexpats in Spain” was created. This Association from Mijas is visiting areas with a high British population to inform of what you should do and conform with the Spanish regulations such as being registered on the Padron, taking out Residency, having a fixed doctor in Spain, etc. The aim is that the surrounding Town Halls get involved collaborating and working together with other towns so things will be easier in a near future if the Brexit will take place. The conference will be at Nerja Town Hall meeting room “salon de actos” on the second floor.

Recommendation- Car Cleaning

Normally I take someone else’s “recommendations” with a pinch of salt, as I am sceptical as to the motives of the “Recommender”!

However, a few months ago, I read a recommendation for Car Clean Malaga, and owning a 6 year old Ford Focus that hardly had a panel that was not bashed or scraped, I decided to take the plunge and contact Warren to see what he could do.

Talk about turning “A Pig’s Ear into a Silk Purse” (figuratively speaking)!

When I got the car back, I was astonished at what he had achieved in such a short time.

All the scratches, scrapes, minor dents and dull paintwork were gone, and the car glistened with a deep polish shine!

Plus, the interior was spotlessly clean and the engine bay glistened like new.

Suffice to say, I was so impressed, that I gave him my 15 year old VW nine-seater Minibus to work on.

Again he did a fabulous job, inside and out, including a “bottom half” re-spray and it came back looking like it had had a complete body re-spray.

The inside had been deep cleaned and the upholstery looked new.

Many of our friends have commented on how good the “Bus” and Focus now look, and are now in contact with Warren directly !

Recently, we looked at replacing my wife’s pride and joy, her 20 year old yellow Renault 19 Cabriolet, which we lovingly call “The Skip”.

We visited many car showrooms, but we couldn’t find anything she liked, apart from a Audi A4 Cabriolet.

However, it was over 10 years old, on Belgium plates and had 240,000 klms on the clock. The price, ………………. €12,000;  just plain ridiculous!

So, we decided to put “The Skip” through an ITV, to see if it had any major faults. However, it sailed through; and so it too has been given to Warren to work his magic.

This will, no doubt, be his biggest test to date!

It’s having a “recycled” leather interior and seats, (which I collected from Madrid), and the dull and flaking paintwork will be given the full “Car Clean Malaga” treatment.

I fully expect it will come back looking fabulous and I should be the recipient of loads of those elusive “Brownie Points”. (Photos to follow later)

All-in-all, it will have cost us much less to have our three cars given the “Warren” treatment, than trade in and buy a replacement.
