Easter Holiday Info for Andalucia:
-April 1, La festividad del Jueves Santo (Maundy Thursday)
-April 2, El Viernes Santo (Good Friday)
-April 4, Easter Sunday
-April 5, Easter Monday, not an official Andalucia holiday. (While researching this I came across an interesting take on it. In small towns and villages, the brotherhoods who provide the procession floats for the Easter week parades (officially none this year due to Covid, but some small mountain villages may have a small procession anyway), they may take Easter Monday off as a holiday to disassemble and pack up the floats, and get some rest after a busy week. In the small villages where a large percentage of the working age population belong to these brotherhoods, this results in these brotherhood members keeping their businesses shut Easter Monday. Or they may open Monday evening only. Or Grandma and the children may be minding the shop for the day. Ain’t small village life grand! This explanation was provided to me by a Spanish friend from the Alpujarra who’s family belongs to one of these brotherhoods. -Ed.)

Pre-planning your funeral is a thoughtful and responsible way to show you care about your family.
Funerals are no easy task. There are numerous considerations to factor in, including logistics, food and drink, casket purchase and burial grounds. A loved one’s death brings immense emotional strain to any family, and the question of financing and arrangements only exacerbates the stress.

Golden Leaves Funeral Plans aims to support grieving families during these tumultuous times. Since our inception in 1984, we have partnered with a widespread network of funeral directors across the UK and Europe.
Purchasing a funeral plan with Golden Leaves enables you to plan, design and pay for your funeral services in advance.

Halting Erosion using Vetiver
From Vetiver Spain in Sayalonga
Our Nursery is open by appointment depending on the current travel restrictions. Please email or call first. We have Moringa seedlings, Organic Moringa powder and Comfrey plants. We also have some local trees and some exotic trees from Africa.
Vetiver is a rapid growing and non-invasive sterile clump grass with a height of 1-2 metres and a root system of 3-4 metres in depth. We have been providing Vetiver throughout the EU for almost 10 years now. We are located in Sayalonga where we can plant year round but our best results by far start in February. The reason is that Vetiver is indigenous to India and Vetiver loves the heat of the summer. Use Vetiver cuttings as mulch around all of your fruit trees. Decomposing Vetiver improves soil quality, keeps the weeds down and the insects away all while helping to maintain soil moisture.
Vetiver is a nutritious and replenishable animal fodder. Horses and pigs love it. We use it in our chicken pens replacing hay because it stops mites.
In the 2 photos below you will see land prepared for Vetiver and the results 2 years later.
We also use Vetiver along driveways and sidewalks. It also makes a great and inexpensive ornamental hedge.
Here is a link to a short video showing the results.
https://youtu.be/rjTmb_LL2uo
We suggest planting now, as this is the BEST time of the year to plant.
To see more images of Vetiver go to this link.

Spain’s vaccine have-nots…the 70-year-olds squeezed between younger and older target groups: People born between 1942 and 1956 may have to wait until mid-April or even later before receiving their first Covid-19 shots.
There is a chance that this age limit will be expanded at a Tuesday meeting of the Public Health Committee that’s advising the government on coronavirus matters. If not, 6.5 million people between the ages of 65 and 79 will have to keep waiting.

New law introduces stricter face mask rules in Spain: Social distancing will no longer be a determining factor for wearing a face mask in Spain. On Tuesday, the government published a law in the Official State Gazette (BOE) making masks mandatory in all public spaces regardless of the distance between people.
“People from the age of six and older have the obligation to wear masks […] on public streets, in outdoor spaces and in any closed space that has a public use or is open to the public,” reads the BOE announcement published on Tuesday.
Until now, the coverings were only mandatory in public and outdoor spaces when it was not possible to keep a distance of 1.5 meters or more between people. These rules were part of a decree issued by the government in June 2020, when the state of alarm ended and a three-month lockdown was lifted.
On Tuesday afternoon the government updated its information website to reflect the fact that masks are now to be used “always” in the settings mentioned in the BOE, instead of just when there is no safety distance. Mandatory mask for sunbathing on the beach: The Official State Gazette publishes this Tuesday a new law on urgent measures for the prevention and containment of Covid-19 that imposes the use of masks in any public space, regardless of the interpersonal distance that may exist. Thus it will be mandatory to carry it, among other places, in the beaches, in the swimming pools or in the field.
Starting tomorrow, the mask in outdoor spaces will be mandatory by law throughout Spain: there will be no exceptions for autonomous communities.
Among the measures contemplated in the text, which will enter into force tomorrow and will remain until the end of the pandemic, the obligation for people is maintained, from the age of six, to wear a mask on public roads, in outdoor spaces and in any closed space for public use or that is open to the public, even if the safety distance of 1.5 meters is maintained.
The use of a mask was not mandatory in almost any community, for example, when sunbathing on beaches or swimming pools, or when walking in the mountains or by the sea, as long as the safety distance was guaranteed.
In some regions, such as Andalusia, this measure was already imposed last summer with fines of up to 100 euros in the case of non-compliance. It could only be removed during bathing or consuming any product. Full article: https://spainsnews.com/mandatory-mask-for-sunbathing-on-the-beach/

Andalucía plans to start vaccinating the over-65s and high-risk patients from 15 April: The Junta’s plan includes cancer patients, people with Down’s syndrome and those receiving dialysis treatments, but the smooth delivery of the plan will be subject to the arrival of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. AstraZeneca vaccine changes name in Europe: AstraZeneca’s covid-19 vaccine has changed its name in Europe and is now called Vaxzevria. US study reveals Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna Covid-19 vaccines reduce infection risk: A real-world study by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has revealed that the mRNA Covid-19 vaccines developed by Pfizer with BioNTech and Moderna reduced the risk of infection by 80% two weeks or more after administering the first of two shots.
In the study with 3,950 participants in six states over a 13-week period from 14 December 2020 to 13 March 2021, the risk of infection decreased 90% by two weeks after the second shot. Full article: https://www.pharmaceutical-technology.com/news/us-study-pfizer-moderna/

AstraZeneca woes continue as Berlin, Canada suspend jab:
Berlin and Munich have temporarily halted AstraZeneca vaccine for people under the age of 60, while Canada has suspended its use for those under 55, amid concerns it might be linked to blood clots.
The news comes after many European nations, including France, Italy and Spain, suspended use of the jab for the same reason. Since then, the European Medicines Agency has declared the vaccine is safe. In fact, along with the company, many regulators have said the vaccine is acceptable, but the jab continues to come under scrutiny. Ireland to require additional COVID test from passengers on arrival: Ireland is to require arriving passengers to take a COVID-19 test on arrival in addition to one taken in the days before traveling, Deputy Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said on Tuesday. “Even though we have the strictest border biosecurity already in the European Union, we’ll be making that stricter again in the coming weeks, starting with an additional PCR test on arrival as well as before people arrive,” he said. Full article: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-ireland-travel/ireland-to-require-additional-covid-test-from-passengers-on-arrival-idUSKBN2BM2SC?il=0

German experts recommend AstraZeneca COVID shots only for over 60s: Germany’s vaccine committee, known as STIKO, on Tuesday recommended using AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine only for people aged 60 and over following further reports of a rare brain blood disorder.
The meeting follows further reports by Germany’s vaccine regulator, the Paul Ehrlich Institute (PEI), of cases of blood clots known as cerebral sinus vein thrombosis (CSVT).
PEI said it had registered 31 cases of CSVT, which resulted in nine deaths, out of some 2.7 million people who have received the AstraZeneca vaccine. With the exception of two cases, all reports involved women aged between 20 and 63.

Saharan dust cloud shrouds the Costa del Sol: Spain’s national weather agency, Aemet, is forecasting it will be worse on Wednesday and there is the possibility of ‘muddy’ rain. The meteorologist predicts that this phenomenon will not last long and it will tend to subside on Thursday, when it will stay below 50 microgrammes per cubic metre, thanks to the change in the wind, from the current east to west.
If there is rain, which is expected is some areas, it will carry the sand particles and fall in the form of diluted mud. This will be most likely in Estepona and Marbella. Full article: http://www.surinenglish.com/local/202103/30/saharan-dust-cloud-shrouds-20210330111438.html

World Cup Football News- Japan thrashes Mongolia 14-0 in historic World Cup qualifier win: It is Japan’s second-biggest win, only behind a 15-0 win over the Philippines in 1967.
It wasn’t the first one-sided result of the week as on Monday, Canada beat the Cayman Islands 11-0 in another World Cup qualifier. Full article: https://edition.cnn.com/2021/03/30/football/japan-mongolia-2022-fifa-world-cup-qualifiers-spt-intl/index.html

VW Is Now Officially Voltswagen: Volkswagen announced today that it is, yes, actually changing the name of its U.S. operations to Voltswagen. The cause of the new name is not a mystery, especially given VW’s recent intensive push to build and sell more electric vehicles. WordPress.com User Alert- Classic Editor Removed Again and the Fix to Restore It: WP is again attempting to force users to quit using the Classic Editor, and move on to the newer Block Editor. Many users do not like the Block Editor; I find it inconvenient, lacking features the Classic Editor provides, and just hideous to look at. Here is how to get the Classic Editor back: https://maddmedic.wordpress.com/2021/03/29/wordpress-classic-editor/
Insiders are suggesting WP is forcing the new Block Editor because it is Artificial Intellegence (AI) friendly, to accommodate the new “article writing” AI that has been recently developed, which can research and write articles all on its own when given just a topic. You buy the program, and it creates “original content” articles you can claim as your own writing. But supposedly it does not work with the Classic Editor. “…and now you know the rest of the story!” -Ed.

Recommendations & Requests

Covid Vaccine Certificates: When my husband had his second Covid jab in Torrox Pueblo they were telling people that after one week they could get a certificate from the nurse at their local health centre. They didn’t mention anything about appointments.
I went along to El Morche Consultario this morning to get his, there was nobody on reception, in fact the place was almost deserted, so I sought out a nurse who seemed to know nothing about this, in fact she barely knew what I was talking about. Has anybody else had better luck?

Andalusia exceeds the half-million infected with coronavirus after adding 555 this Monday: {Translated from sevilla.abc.es} Updated 29/03/2021 13:40
-On Monday, Andalusia passed the half million mark for the number of people infected with the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic. Exactly 500,447 Andalusians have contracted the virus, according to data from the Regional Ministry of Health and Families.
-The region has reached this milestone after 555 new coronavirus positives on Monday, the highest figure for a Monday since the end of February. In the weekly comparison there is also a worsening since 380 cases were reported last Monday, 175 less than today.
-The upward trend in the number of cases, which started last week, is continuing this week. This is already clearly reflected in the cumulative incidence of the pandemic, a “thermometer” that measures the speed and virulence of the health crisis.
-On Friday this marker stood at 124 cases per hundred thousand inhabitants, this Monday it has already reached 137 points. This is a discreet increase, but one that points to the growth of the fourth wave.
-Another 13 dead. Of the more than half a million people infected, 9,274 have lost their lives to Covid-19, giving a mortality rate of 1.8 per cent in infected persons. The number of deaths, 13 on Monday, has now been below 50 a day for two weeks, which also confirms the decrease in the number of deaths in the community. Spanish Covid Update- Health reports 15,501 new cases and 189 deaths since Friday: {First 3 paragraphs of article only, translated from laprovincia.es} Updated 29MAR21, 18:34
-Spain is close to high risk of coronavirus transmission (more than 150 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 14 days) as the cumulative incidence has increased to 149.2 cases. Asturias, Catalonia and the Basque Country are already in this situation, while Madrid (255), Navarre (265.9), Ceuta (268.9) and Melilla (502.9) are at extreme risk (above 250 cases per 100,000 inhabitants).
-The Ministry of Health has notified this Monday an increase in the cumulative incidence of eleven points, and 189 more deaths by covid, of which 222 have taken place in the last seven days. In addition, occupancy in the ICUs, with 1,861 covid patients, remains at 18.7% (31 more), while hospital pressure remains at 6% and there are 8,076 admitted patients.
-Since the start of the pandemic, 3,270,825 infections have been diagnosed (15,501 reported since Friday) and 75,199 deaths have been recorded. Source, Spanish: https://www.laprovincia.es/espana/2021/03/29/sanidad-notifica-15-501-nuevos-45976905.html

Traffic in Suez Canal resumes after stranded ship refloated:
Egypt’s Suez Canal will reopen for shipping traffic in both directions on Monday evening after a giant container ship which had been blocking the busy waterway for almost a week was refloated, with more than 400 ships waiting to pass through. The Suez Canal Authority’s chairman Osama Rabie said the channel was navigable after the 400-metre (430-yard) long vessel Ever Given was freed undamaged earlier on Monday. Price of electricity and butane gas bottles rises again throughout Spain: The price of electricity is rising again this month in Spain and will be 12 per cent higher by the end of March than it was in February.
The electricity bill of an average user is up to around €55.20 per month in March, which is 12.6 per cent more than in February and 16 per cent more than in March last year, according to the National Markets and Competition Committee.
Meanwhile, the price of butane gas bottles (bombonas) in Spain is also continuing to rise, and is now at €13.96, the highest since January 2019, and it is expected to continue to rise.
Since November last year, the price has gone up by nearly €2. The 4.96 per cent rise in the cost of a butane gas bottle, which almost the maximum permitted, could occur again in May to compensate for the higher price of gas and transporting it. Google Just Can’t Quit Stealing Your Data- Faces Another Class Action Suit for Allegedly “Selling Users’ Data”: Inside the high tech world of instant ad space sales.
Google does not simply compile and sell your data, oh no, it’s far more lucrative to auction off the ad space in your browsing sessions, in real time, to the highest bidder. And that is exactly what they do! Every time you open a new website in your browser Google is instantly notified, they then have a list of waiting bidders who read your basic info, determine the value to them in placing an ad targeting you, and make a bid to place their ads in the site you just opened. The highest bid gets to insert their ads. This all happens in a second, and is a prime reason some sites are slow to load, as popular sites have greater demand for their ad space, so the auction takes longer.  If your Google profile suggests you are wealthy, your ad space is worth more, so there will be more bidding, and again, your pages will be slower to load. This creates a situation where rich people, on expensive high performance computers, visiting popular sites, get the slowest page loading times.  But the poor fellow on an old laptop, no one wants to buy ad space in his visited webpages, so his pages load fast. Techno irony at its best. -Ed.
The suit opens with a screenshot of a Google site, which reads “We do not sell your personal information to anyone.”
“Google breaks these promises billions of times every day,” the suit then alleges.
Last week, a law firm filed a class action suit against Google for allegedly breaking its promise of not selling users’ data. The lawsuit centers around Google’s use of so-called real-time bidding, where companies place bids to win advertising space in people’s web browsing sessions. As part of that, companies obtain sensitive information about the users, even if they don’t win, or even intend to win, the ad placement, the suit claims.

Andalusia falls below 1,000 hospitalised for coronavirus but infections continue to rise: {Translated from sevilla.abc.es} Updated 28/03/2021 19:56
-The region has had 981 cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, the highest figure for a Sunday in more than a month.
-Andalusia has fallen below 1,000 hospitalised coronavirus patients for the first time since 1 January, three months ago. Thus, this Sunday there are 960 patients in the community admitted for Covid-19, the lowest figure since before the third wave of the pandemic rose strongly in the community.
-In the ICU, however, there is a slight upturn of eight more patients, which leaves the number of patients admitted to intensive care at 242.
-However, this improvement in healthcare pressure in Andalusia comes at a time when infections continue to rise. This Sunday there are 981 confirmed cases of coronavirus. Although this is a lower figure than yesterday, it is the worst Sunday since mid-February, more than a month ago.
-Moreover, this figure consolidates the trend of a slight rise of a possible fourth wave that would be starting to take off in these early stages of Easter.
-On the other hand, there were three deaths on Sunday. The community seems to have reached its lowest number of deaths due to coronavirus and since the beginning of the week that ends today they have been reduced by half compared to previous days. Thus, the community has had its lowest number of deaths in months. Apple Issues Urgent Patch Update for Another Zero-Day Flaw Under Attack: Merely weeks after releasing security patches for iOS, iPadOS, macOS and watchOS, Apple has issued yet another security update for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch to fix a critical zero-day weakness that it says is being actively exploited in the wild. Android Malware Alert- Beware of Fake Android Update with Powerful Spyware: Only do Android updates manually, thru your system Settings. Never accept an offer of Android updates from a website, link, or on-screen pop-up notification.
Researchers have discovered a new information-stealing trojan, which targets Android devices with an onslaught of data-stealing capabilities- pilfer contacts, browser bookmarks, and search history, steal messages by abusing accessibility services, record audio, and phone calls, and take photos using the phone’s cameras. It can also track the victim’s location, search for files with specific extensions, and grab data from the device’s clipboard.
While malware on Android has previously taken the guise of copycat apps, which go under names similar to legitimate pieces of software, this sophisticated new malicious app masquerades itself as a System Update application to take control of compromised devices. Sources from the Workers’ Commissions Union commented that it is a matter of “uncertainty and insecurity” for the applicants, who will not know if they have been affected by the cyberattack “until some time passes” and they are either paid or not. Andalusia enters Easter with the highest number of coronavirus infections in a month and a half: {Translated from sevilla.abc.es} Updated:27/03/2021 18:46
-Andalusia continues to be at 1,300 cases of coronavirus infection. This Saturday it has added 1,329 and yesterday, 1,320. Thus, the community enters Easter with the highest figures since mid-February and points in the direction that was already intuited yesterday: infections are slowly rising and the plateau seems to be tentatively leaning towards the rise.
-There is more data to support the theory of a change of trend in the pandemic curve. The number of people hospitalised this Saturday rose by ten, to 1,015. The figure is very discreet but relevant as it occurred on a Saturday, when the number of people admitted to hospital normally falls if the curve is downward or flat. The fact that there are more inpatients today also points to a growth in the curve.
-In the case of the ICU there is a decrease. Thus, there are 234 Andalusians admitted to intensive care in the community, the lowest number since the beginning of January.
-But while the number of cases of coronavirus infection seems to be increasing, the number of deaths confirms its decline. This Saturday, 15 deaths have been recorded, less than half of a week ago, when 34 were reported. This trend has been repeated since last Monday, when the death toll of the pandemic seems to be decreasing as the days go by.

Spain to require negative PCR at French land border: Anyone crossing the land border from France into Spain will have to present a negative PCR taken in the last 72 hours, the Spanish government’s official bulletin said on Saturday.
The measure, which takes effect on Tuesday, March 30th, comes as Spain ramps up restrictions in the hope it can avoid a surge in cases over Holy Week, which begins this weekend.
It is the first time such a requirement has been imposed on those crossing the land border between the two countries; until now, it has only been required of arrivals by air.
“They must have a PCR test (RT-PCR), a TMA test or another type of diagnostic test for SARS-CoV-2 based on equivalent molecular techniques, with a negative result, carried out in the 72 hours prior to arrival,” the bulletin said.

New Amsterdam Will Be Looking Like Old Amsterdam Next Year: New York Reaches a Deal to Legalize Recreational Marijuana. State lawmakers finalized a deal on Thursday to legalize recreational marijuana in New York, paving the way for a potential $4.2 billion industry that could create tens of thousands of jobs and become one of the largest markets in the country.
Following several failed attempts, lawmakers in Albany struck an agreement with Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo to legalize cannabis for adults 21 and older, a move that officials hope will help end years of racially disproportionate policing that saw Black and Hispanic people arrested on low-level marijuana charges far more frequently than white people.
The deal would allow delivery of the drug and permit club-like lounges or “consumption sites” where marijuana, but not alcohol, could be consumed, according to details obtained by The New York Times. It would also allow a person to cultivate up to six marijuana plants at home, indoors or outdoors, for personal use. Andalusia has 1,320 coronavirus infections, worst Friday since mid-February: {Translated from sevilla.abc.es}
Updated 26/03/2021 20:05
-Andalusia has had 1,320 cases of coronavirus infection this Friday. This is the highest figure for a Friday since mid-February, more than a month ago. Although it is not yet a trend, this data does point to the fact that the pandemic, for now dormant on a plateau, could be timidly rebounding.
-However, it is too early to say for sure that the curve is rising. We will have to wait and see what data the next few days bring to confirm whether this Friday’s figure is the tone that the numbers will follow from now on or a statistical incidence.
-Where there is a clear trend is in the number of deaths. There are eleven on Friday, less than half the number of the same day last week. This is something that has been happening since last weekend. The number of reported fatalities has been halved, according to this week’s figures from the Department of Health and Families.
-And if it seems that the number of infections is rising timidly and unblocking the situation of stability in which they were plunged, in the case of hospitals the lethargy continues. The number of people admitted to hospital is much lower than it was weeks ago, when the number of discharges was 200 by 200. This Friday, in fact, there is a drop of only 21 people hospitalised, which leaves the total number of people admitted for coronavirus at 1,005.
-Lowering the thousand admitted remains an insurmountable barrier for now for the community, which also in the ICU does not fall strongly. In fact this Friday there are 244 admitted to intensive care, the same figure as yesterday. German Constitutional Court halts approval of EU-wide recovery funds: {From a long, rambling eldiario.es article, this is the first paragraph I have translated and posted. It contains the important points. For more details look at the references.}
The 750,000 million euros in European funds to overcome the social, economic and health crisis caused by the pandemic are at a standstill. And the €140 billion allocated to Spain, between loans and subsidies, are at risk. Or, at least, the deadlines to start receiving them. Spain has budgeted 27 billion from European recovery programs for this year, and expected to start receiving advances from the summer onwards.

Amid looming threat of fourth wave in Spain, only half of 80-and-over age group is vaccinated: As the threat of a fourth wave of the coronavirus looms over Spain, many of the people most vulnerable to Covid-19 continue to be at risk of contracting the disease. Only 50% of the 80-and-over age group in Spain have been vaccinated against Covid-19, according to an estimate by EL PAÍS based on figures provided by regional governments. The data indicates that around 1.2 million people who are 80 and over have been vaccinated. This figure does not include residents of care homes, a group that has been nearly completely immunized. The rate of vaccination of the 80-and-over population in Spain is slightly below the average in the European Union, where 55% of people in this age group have received their first shot.Full article: https://english.elpais.com/society/2021-03-25/amid-looming-threat-of-fourth-wave-in-spain-only-half-of-80-and-over-age-group-is-vaccinated.html

Updated- Easter Holiday Info for Andalucia:
There is some confusion over the “holiday bridges” and which of these will be “bank holidays”.
Will Easter Sunday will “bridge” to a bank holiday on Easter Monday? Most sources say yes.
Does Palm Sunday “bridge” to make Monday March 29th a holiday? No sources mention this.
If anyone has a definitive source with accurate bank holiday info, please send me the link to it. If Aldi is closed, banks probably will be also.
So far, this is what I have found.
-March 28, Palm Sunday
-April 1, La festividad del Jueves Santo (Maundy Thursday) (Torrox Costa Aldi closed)
-April 2, El Viernes Santo (Good Friday)
– April 4, Easter Sunday
-April 5, Easter Monday (Torrox Costa Aldi closed)

The new Covid measure that begins in Andalusia from this Friday  limits home groups to cohabitants for Easter: {Summary, translated from seville.abc.es}
-Despite the fact that since 19 March meetings in Andalusia could have a maximum of six people both outdoors and in homes, from 26 April until 9 April Covid will change this measure, with the maximum number of people in the street and outside bars (six people) and inside restaurants (four people) remaining the same as it is today. As for meetings in homes, they will be allowed only between cohabitants.
That is to say, there are no modifications regarding the prohibition of travel between communities and provinces, curfew hours and meetings other than in homes. -The director of the Strategic Vaccination Plan of Andalusia, David Moreno, has conveyed to the public a message of confidence in the AstraZeneca vaccine, which was resumed last Wednesday in the community, and has pointed out that “almost all the people mentioned went and got vaccinated”.
-In an interview on Canal Sur Television, picked up by Europa Press, Moreno pointed out that this vaccine is being administered to millions of people and is safe. “It has some mild side effects, such as fever and pain in the area of the puncture, one or two days of discomfort, but there are more people who have no symptoms than those who do,” he stressed.
For those citizens who choose not to receive their dose when the time comes, the Andalusian government will establish “forms of repayment” and they will have to wait to be “rescheduled within the population”. Mechanisms will also be included for vaccinating new professionals – police officers, teachers and health workers, among others – who join the workforce. UK Emergency Covid laws extended until October as Government sees off Tory rebels: MPs have backed an extension of UK coronavirus laws for another six month.
But despite widespread backbench anger over the laws, Boris Johnson saw off his own MPs with Labour support to keep what critics branded “significant draconian powers”.
MPs voted 484 to 76, majority 408, to extend coronavirus laws for a further six months.
-The extension of emergency powers will now last until October.
-But despite the extension ministers insisted this did not change the so-called lockdown roadmap, which will see some restrictions remain in place in England until at least June 21.
-Matt Hancock came under fire from Tory MPs after failing to guarantee “draconian” powers to implement pandemic restrictions will be scrapped in October. Mr Hancock told the Commons he “cannot answer” whether the Government will be “retiring” the legislation in October or whether it will be rolled on.
-Meanwhile, Mr Hancock has expressed confidence about the UK’s ability to manage Covid-19 in the future. He told the Financial Times: “It depends what you mean by ‘end’. I see an end where Covid is managed more like flu: we repeatedly vaccinate, we update the vaccines according to mutations and we manage the challenges, especially around transmissions over winter. “I’m confident that’s where we can get to. I want to get to a position where we can have an updated vaccine in weeks or months, not a year.”

Andalusia returns to 1,000 coronavirus cases per day unable to leave the plateau: {Translated from sevilla.abc.es} Updated 24/03/2021 13:28
-Andalusia has once again reached a thousand cases of coronavirus infection. On Wednesday, the region reported 1,032 cases, a figure very similar to the one reported on the same day last week, when 955 positive cases were recorded. The evolution of the pandemic continues to draw a curve that meanders in growth and very slight drops in the data.
-In any case, the weeks in this plateau in which the community is installed do not seem to change. Monday and Tuesday around 500 cases and on Wednesday back to 1,000. This is also what is happening this week, which is good because it means that the dreaded fourth wave has not arrived. But it is bad at the same time because this stagnation of data occurs when the pandemic data are high and hospital occupancy is still above a thousand people.
-Where there does seem to be a slight improvement is in the number of deaths from the coronavirus. The Consejería de Salud y Familias has reported 22 deaths from Covid-19, half as many as on the same day last week. This was also the case yesterday, when 41 deaths were reported, half the 82 reported on Tuesday of the previous week.
-It seems that the community has found a floor in the number of deaths. It would make sense because it is in this parameter that the downward curve is finally noticeable. After having stabilised in terms of infections, admissions and the cumulative incidence rate, the plateau could also be reached in the number of deaths caused by the pandemic.
-Because the cumulative incidence, like the number of positives, has remained unchanged at around 120 cases per 100,000 inhabitants for weeks. Today it is 119, but yesterday it was 120. A week later the same thing is happening and Andalusia has not managed to drop below 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
*Hospitalised by Covid*
-In hospitals, meanwhile, the rate of reduction of hospital admissions is increasingly slower. In fact, this Wednesday there have only been 21 discharges, the lowest figure for a Wednesday in many weeks. Thus, today there are 1,060 hospitalised due to coronavirus.
-In the ICU, according to data from the Department of Health and Families, the situation is also slowing down. This Wednesday, 259 people have been reported admitted to intensive care, only one less than yesterday.

Spain lifts UK flight restrictions from 30 March: Spain will lift the restrictions imposed since the end of December on flights from the United Kingdom on 30 March, although it will maintain the restrictions for those arriving from Brazil and South Africa in order to prevent the entry of coronavirus variants from these countries.
The existing restrictions mean that flights from any airport in the United Kingdom to any Spanish airport – with or without intermediate stops – can only carry Spanish or Andorran nationals, or legal residents in Spain or Andorra.
Now, in theory, with the lifting of the Spanish restrictions UK tourists could also come to Spain, and not just residents.
However, the British Government has announced measures to the contrary and Health Minister Matt Hancock has indicated that from next week fines of up to £5,000 (6,000 euros) could be imposed on Britons travelling abroad for holidays and without “good reason”. The penalty is included in legislation that will be voted on by MPs on Thursday. Full article: http://www.surinenglish.com/national/202103/23/spain-lifts-flight-restrictions-20210323172234.html

Spain’s tourism sector fears that government aid will arrive so late that it will have no effect this summer: Employers have also demanded that the ERTE furlough scheme be extended until the end of the year and layoffs be allowed: “I prefer an operating company with eight workers than a shut down one with 10,” said the CEOE trade body president. Merkel Asks Forgiveness As Easter Virus Plan Falls Apart: German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Wednesday admitted a failed Easter virus shutdown plan was “my mistake” and asked the public to forgive her, in a rare climbdown amid massive criticism of the government’s pandemic response.
Merkel and the leaders of Germany’s 16 states had agreed at marathon talks on Monday that almost all shops were to be closed on April 1-5, with only grocers allowed to open on Saturday April 3.
But they decided at a crisis meeting called by Merkel on Wednesday to scrap that measure, instead appealing to the public to stay home over the Easter weekend. Full article: https://www.ibtimes.com/merkel-asks-forgiveness-easter-virus-plan-falls-apart-3168368

Hundreds of fleeceware apps on Google and Apple stores:
Fleeceware apps aren’t technically malware as they don’t contain malicious code, steal data, or attempt to hijack devices. This allows them to circumvent the Play Store and App Store vetting processes. What they do have, however, is obscenely high subscription fees.
Most of these apps entice people into signing up by offering a three-day free trial. Once that ends, users are charged a high, recurring fee. The makers rely on people forgetting to cancel or assuming that uninstalling the app will stop the charges.
The apps are predominantly related to astrology, horoscopes, musical lessons, photo/filter software, QR/PDF scanners, and video editing. While they do tend to perform their primary functions, similar and usually better alternatives are available for free or at a low, one-off price. Most fleeceware charges users between $4 to $12 per week, though this can reach $66 per week in some cases, equalling $3,432 per year.
As they aren’t malware, the apps can advertise on social networks, making them appear more credible, especially to younger users.
What to do if you have installed fleeceware? Once the test is over, users are charged a recurring subscription fee, even if they have removed the app, until they unsubscribe in their device’s app store settings.
How to avoid getting tricked into installing rouge apps?
Although subscriptions are frequent in app stores, Avast recommends “be careful” with applications that offer free trials for very short periods, for example, less than a week.
These ‘fleeceware’ ‘apps’ are actively advertised on major social networks such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok. Therefore, above all, it is advisable to maintain “skepticism” with the viral ads of applications.
Also, it is important to read the fine print. “A closer look it will probably reveal the true price of the application “, they indicate from the cybersecurity company. It is advisable to pay” special attention “to the section ‘Purchases within the application’.
And make sure that the payment methods used are blocked by a password or a biometric security system. “This can also avoid accidental subscriptions by children “, conclude from Avast.

In Spain, just one in 12 businesses will benefit from coronavirus direct aid: The government has set restrictive criteria for accessing €7 billion in non-refundable payouts to compensate for the loss of revenue after a year of the pandemic.
An estimate made by EL PAÍS indicates that only around 180,000 businesses, out of 2.2 million, will be able to request a share of this aid, which is aimed at helping distressed companies cover fixed costs such as rent or supplies. The conditions for eligibility are restrictive: only 95 out of the 538 existing activities, following the Tax Agency’s classification, may file for the aid. The fact that the funds will first go through regional governments could mean that applicants will not see any money before the summer.

US agency questions AstraZeneca’s Covid vaccine trial data:
The drug firm may have provided an incomplete view of the efficacy data from US trial, says safety monitor.
Questions have been raised in the US by the independent Data and Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB), which has suggested that AstraZeneca may have provided “outdated information” in its statement on Monday, which gave “an incomplete view” of the results. The concerns throw into question whether the British-Swedish pharmaceutical firm can seek US emergency use authorisation for the vaccine in the coming weeks as planned. Bad news for Andalusian tourism- travel ban on British tourists until July: {Translated from sevilla.abc.es}
-In another setback for Andalusian tourism, Boris Johnson, the British Prime Minister, announced on Monday that the ban on travel outside the islands would be extended until July. The reason is the fear that the effects of the third wave of the coronavirus will also hit Britain harder. “It’s horrifying,” laments Miguel Sánchez, president of the Tourism Council of the Andalusian Business Confederation (CEA).
-It’s another check for businesses that are being battered by the pandemic. Employees in ERTE, closed businesses and a horizon that does not just open the doors to tourists. With this panorama, the hope was that, with the vaccination, there would be a return with the arrival of the heat, taking advantage of the holiday period in May. “Most of us were thinking of opening in the second half of May,” Sánchez told ABC, explaining that the extension of the ban in the largest outbound market has forced us to rethink our plans.
-According to CEA data, British tourism accounted for 34 percent of the volume of visitors to Andalusia before the pandemic. The recovery of these tourists is key for businesses to function properly, but the uncertainty has been going on for a year without any certainty. “It’s desperate,” says Sánchez.
-The British government’s plans are a new cold shower and are causing incomprehension among some of the hotel managers in Andalusia. “It’s very negative news and it’s not understandable from a health point of view, when nowadays to travel you have to have a negative PCR to enter and leave,” says Julián Cabanillas, director of the Marbella Club Hotel, which has opted for long-stay clients to maintain its position over the last year.
-These bans are not only affecting the Andalusian hotel sector, but are also hitting other sectors such as airlines. These companies have already decided not to release forecasts on the number of seats or destinations. “Many flights are cancelled,” they explain at Malaga Airport, where before the pandemic they already had numbers of seats for travel, but this year they see how the companies do not dare to reveal plans for fear that they will collapse.

Apple News- Lawsuit over Apple’s faulty MacBook butterfly keyboards gets class-action status in California: The butterfly keyboard design has been widely criticized by consumers since its launch in 2015. Customers have complained of having issues with the keys sticking together, the keyboard’s inability to work when pressing certain keys, discomfort when using the slim design, and overall issues with the keyboard’s ability to function properly. In 2020, Apple discontinued the butterfly keyboard design and announced that its Magic Keyboard would be available across Apple’s entire laptop lineup. Chimps From Two Czech Zoos are Zooming Each Other Every Day: Chimpanzees at two Czech zoos are, like the rest of us, staying in contact via Zoom, as the zoo staff seek to give them some company and stimulation during the long hours of isolation. Chimp gang Dingo, Babeta, Bonnie, Suzi, Chispi and Mat at Safari Park Dvur Kralove have had their lives Zoom-displayed on giant screens in front of the simians at a Brno Zoo enclosure 90 miles away, and vice versa.
“At the beginning they approached the screen with defensive or threatening gestures,” said Gabriela Linhartova, one of the ape keepers at Dvur Kralove Zoo east of Prague.
“It has since moved into the mode of ‘I am in the movies’ or ‘I am watching TV’. When they see some tense situations, it gets them up off the couch, like us when we watch a live sport event,” she said.
While observing the others’ day-to-day lives, the chimps have taken to other human behaviors, such as shoveling things like peanuts into their mouths while they watch. Full article: https://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/czech-chimpanzees-zoom-call-each-other/

Burgers in 110g, 160g & 210g, and as hamburgers, Irish burger or Black Angus burger. San Miguel on draft, ice cold Weissbier, Currywurst and more. I recommend Nando’s Special German Potato Salad if it’s available. Tell your server that Naythan from DigameXtra sent you.
-ReOpened: Il Faro Pizzaria near the lookout point at the end of Av El Faro. Proper family sized pizzas with premium ingredients. Ask for extra tomato sauce & extra cheese if you like American style pizza. The Pizza del Mar, with shrimps, mussels and anchovies is my personal fav. Eat half there, take the rest home, two meals for the price of one!
-The El Faro Bar has opened where Thai Pas Restaurant used to be located, next to the lookout point on Av El Faro. Terrace is canine friendly, and the dog beach is only a few hundred meters away. Have a day out with your pooch!
-The Greek Casita, BLQ 80, has delayed their reopening until March 26th. The remodelling has taken longer than anticipated. Gyros will be back soon!
-I Love Pizza on the beach boardwalk has been closed for several weeks now, no sign of when they will reopen, but there does seem to be some remodeling happening.
-The newish London Bar on the Paseo Maritimo remains shut for the time being. I have not had a chance to try it out, but in passing I noticed the portions  were large and it definitely looks like a great place to watch sports tv!
-The mini-market on the west side of BLQ 80 is now a Hilal Middle Eastern grocery store. It is packed floor to ceiling with every sort of food you would expect and much more. Wide selection of spices, figs & dates. They even have a butcher section for fresh meat. Prices are very reasonable, lean fresh ground Hilal beef was only €5/kg the day I stopped in. Look for daily meat specials posted on the display case!  Also a selection of  traditional clothes & shoes.
*Bar Owners: It’s free to post your promos once a month, or once a week if you have new weekly special deals or entertainment. Check the Rules Page for details. Free publicity, what more could you ask for?

Andalusia has only 380 coronavirus infections, best Monday since August: {Translated from sevilla.abc.es}
Updated 22/03/2021, 16:36
-Andalusia has had 380 cases of coronavirus infection this Monday. This is the lowest figure since 9 December and also the best Monday for the region since 10 August. If we compare this figure with last week’s Monday, there is also an improvement because seven days ago the number of reported positives was 480, one hundred more.
-However, this drop in cases is not reflected in the cumulative incidence of the pandemic, the most reliable gauge of the speed and virulence of the health crisis. Last Friday there were 118 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. This Monday there are 122. The rise, although not very pronounced, confirms the saw-toothed phase that the curve of the pandemic in the community has been drawing for weeks.
-There are also worse data in the case of the seven-day incidence rate. This value, which registers changes in trend sooner, is 57 cases per hundred thousand inhabitants today at seven days. On Friday the same figure was 52, five points lower.
-Thus, it is not possible to be sure that the low number of infections reported on Monday represents a trend, nor that the increase in the incidence rate points in the opposite direction. The community remains at very similar figures week after week, with the incidence rate stagnating at around 120 points.
-Where there is very good news is in the number of deaths. This Monday there have been only two deaths due to coronavirus in Andalusia, as was the case yesterday. You have to go back to 2 January to find such low figures and, much earlier, to the summer, to see them repeated for two consecutive days.
-There are two possible explanations for this. On the one hand, vaccines are already having an effect on the most vulnerable people, which reduces mortality. But the drop is very sharp, so we must also take into account a possible under-reporting of deaths that will be corrected tomorrow or the day after, when this indicator is expected to rise in Andalusia.
-Meanwhile, 1,054 Andalusians were admitted to hospital on Monday due to the coronavirus. This is a rise of 41 people, the highest in several weeks. In the ICU there is also an increase in the number of Andalusians admitted, 265, six more than yesterday. This tends to happen on Mondays and Tuesdays, so we will have to wait until the end of the week for the number of hospitalised patients to finally drop below a thousand, if that happens at all. Health wants to resume the vaccination with AstraZeneca in Andalusia this Tuesday: {Summary, translated from sevilla.abc.es}
-The Andalusian Regional Minister for Health and Families, Jesús Aguirre, announced on Monday in Montilla (Córdoba) that, if authorised by the Ministry of Health, Andalusia will administer the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines from Tuesday, also to the 55-65 age group.
-In fact, Andalusia has “160,000 AstraZeneca vaccines available right now”, and Health wants to “administer them as soon as possible”, and Aguirre also hopes that the use of this vaccine will be authorised for the 55 to 65 age group, which is the age group that Aguirre considers to be a “priority” for vaccination, within the “essential personnel”.
-In addition to this, Aguirre, who said he expects a total of “203,530 vaccines” to arrive in Andalusia this week from the various pharmaceutical companies, also wants the Ministry of Health to authorise that, “once the vaccination of the over-80s has been completed, the next group to be vaccinated will be patients with relevant pathologies”. UK Covid testing- Adults to be asked to test themselves twice a week to keep roadmap out of lockdown on track: All adults will be encouraged to test themselves for Covid-19 twice a week to help us ease out of lockdown, The Times understands.
Getting the public into the habit of regular swabs is viewed as a vital way to stop people breaking the rules if they test negative and an advertising campaign will urge people to “play their part” by regularly checking they are not infectious.

Unidas Podemos says Politicos “antisocial” on Rent Relief- Minister Ábalos insists on tax incentives and advocates that they are more effective than limiting the rents: {Summary, translated from sevilla.abc.es}
-The Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, José Luis Ábalos, defended this Monday that the tax incentives he is proposing in the future housing law to curb the rise in rents as a “much more effective” measure than the demand by UNO Podemos to limit them.
-The future law will make the constitutional right to decent housing effective and will put a stop to abusive rises in rents, according to the minister, who added that it will also favour “the offer of affordable conditions for people with lower incomes, young people and the most vulnerable groups”.
-With regard to the criticisms made by Unidas Podemos of the tax incentives for benefiting large property owners, he reminded the audience that the aim is to make these incentives “more progressive and fairer”. In addition, he reminded that it is applied to personal income tax, a tax that does not benefit companies, and that 85% of rented housing in Spain belongs to small owners.
-In any case, he assured that in the future law “there are many measures” to avoid the abusive increase in rents and to favour an increase in supply because “if we do not increase supply, we are not going to lower prices”, he said.
-Hours earlier, Yolanda Díaz expressed her conviction that there will be agreement in the coalition government to regulate the price of rents: “It is not a question of giving in, there is going to be agreement for sure,” she said.
-She pointed out that, after unemployment, “surely the second biggest problem is housing”, which is also “a fundamental right” recognised in the Constitution and “in international standards”, and that “the Government wants to tackle one of the country’s main problems”.
-The PSOE’s proposal to reduce the price of rent in stressed areas is to increase the level of tax relief in personal income tax for owners, up to 90%, in order to formalise a new contract with a lower rent. For both Montero and the Vice-President for Economic Affairs, Nadia Calviño, this proposal would comply with the government agreement between the PSOE and Unidas Podemos, despite not containing price intervention.
-In contrast, Unidas Podemos considers that the incentive system is not sufficient and would not comply with the coalition agreement or the agreement to approve the Housing Law. Moreover, it points out that the incentive system will not only not be enough, but that it is also aimed at benefiting large housing owners.
-Thus, they consider that it is “antisocial, by promoting that those who have the most and have contributed the most to inflating the bubble will benefit the most from these incentives supported with everyone’s money”. Tax office staff warn furloughed workers they may need to do a tax declaration for 2020: Representatives of the government’s tax inspectors have warned people who have benefited from ERTE furloughing payments in the last 12 months of the Covid-19 pandemic to check if they need to fill out a tax return for 2020.
Normally those earning less than 22,000 euros a year from a single source, typically their employer, don’t have to complete a separate self-assessment-style declaration.
However, as many people were getting furlough money from the SEPE employment service as well as from an employer in 2020, they will be forced to file an individual tax return under the rules.
ERTE payments don’t normally have tax deducted at source, unlike a pay packet, and so many people could be caught out on their IRPF income-tax declaration as they will have some money to pay back to the taxman. US has ‘secret evidence of UFOs breaking sound barrier without a sonic boom and performing moves humans don’t have the technology for’, says Trump’s Director of National Intelligence: The U.S. has evidence of UFOs breaking the sound barrier without a sonic boom and making maneuvers impossible with known technology, the former Director of National Intelligence has revealed.
The revelations increased excitement about a forthcoming report detailing what the U.S. government has observed.
John Ratcliffe, who served as Donald Trump’s Director of National Intelligence, said that many of the incidents still have no easy explanation.
‘When we talk about sightings, the other thing I will tell you is, it’s not just a pilot or just a satellite, or some intelligence collection,’ Ratcliffe said.
‘Usually we have multiple sensors that are picking up these things, and some of these are unexplained phenomenon, and there is actually quite a few more than have been made public.’
The government was, in December, given a 180-day deadline to disclose what it knew, meaning that the report should be out before June 1. Full article: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9387129/There-lot-sightings-public-Anticipation-mounts-ahead-UFO-report.html

Global shortage in computer chips ‘reaches crisis point’: Consumers are facing price rises and shortages of products from TVs and mobile phones to cars and games consoles as a global shortage in semiconductors grows.
The shortage in chips, the “brain” within every electronic device in the world, has been steadily worsening since last year. Initially the problem was only a temporary delay in supplies as factories shut down when the coronavirus pandemic first hit. However, although production is back to normal, a new surge in demand driven by changing habits fueled by the pandemic means that it is now reaching crisis point.
Car manufacturers investing in tech-heavy electric vehicles, the boom in sales of TVs and home computers and launch of new games consoles and 5G-enabled mobile phones have all driven demand.
The chip shortage looks set to persist for some time yet. It can take up to two years to get complex semiconductor production factories up and running, and manufacturers are in the process of significantly raising prices for the second time in less than a year.
“There is no sign of supply catching up, or demand decreasing, while prices are rising across the chain,” says Campling, media and tech analyst at Mirabaud. . “This will cross over to people in the street. Expect cars to cost more, phones to cost more. This year’s iPhone is not going to be cheaper than last year.” Full article: https://www.theguardian.com/business/2021/mar/21/global-shortage-in-computer-chips-reaches-crisis-point

World’s first ship tunnel to be built under Norwegian mountains: Norway has got the go-ahead to construct what’s being billed as the world’s first ship tunnel, designed to help vessels navigate the treacherous Stadhavet Sea.
First announced a few years ago by the Norwegian Coastal Administration, this mile-long, 118-feet-wide tunnel will burrow through the mountainous Stadhavet peninsula in northwestern Norway.
Building this engineering marvel will cost somewhere in the region of 2.8 billion Norwegian kroner ($330 million) and take between three to four years, with construction due to commence in 2022.
