Covid Malaga- The rate Covid rises nearly 20 cases in a week in Malaga, other numbers not encouraging (but we’re still far better off than most of Europe):{Translation} November 19, 2021 – 14:13 -This Friday the cumulative incidence (AI) in the province of Malaga has risen 5 cases to 74 per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days. This represents an increase of 18 points compared to the record of Friday last week, so the week closes almost 20 cases above. In the capital, the rate stands at 78.5 cases; so the weekly increase is half a point higher than in the province as a whole. -The number of infections is already close to two hundred per day, in its continuous increase. This Friday there are 171 new positives detected by diagnostic tests of active infection (PDIA) that the Ministry of Health and Families of the Andalusian Government has notified in its daily balance. It is the Andalusian province with the most reported infections, closely followed by Seville (160), with almost a hundred new positives more than the next in the statistics (Huelva, 81). -Despite the fact that the incidence and the number of infections have been increasing, this Friday there are no deaths in the province, so the statistics still reflect 2,003 deaths since the first for this reason occurred in March 2020. -However, as far as healthcare pressure is concerned, the data are bittersweet. On the one hand, Malaga is still by far the province with the highest number of Covid patients admitted to its healthcare centers. One out of every three bedridden patients in Andalusia is in this province. This Friday six more patients have been admitted to hospitals in Malaga with coronavirus, despite this the number of occupied beds has been reduced by five units, to 69 occupied of the 204 in the whole community. -Regarding the Intensive Care Units (ICU), the figures are more discouraging, 17 patients remain under this care in Malaga, almost half of the 40 registered in Andalusia. In addition, despite there being no new direct admissions to the ICU, there are two more ICU beds occupied in the province. There are more ICU patients in Malaga than total admissions in Huelva (14) and Cadiz (7) and the figure is close to the total number of bedridden in Almeria (19), Cordoba (20), Granada (21), Jaen (25) and Seville (29). Covid Axarquia- The Axarquia has notified this week 67 cases of COVID-19, the highest number since the end of September:{Translation, summary} Nov 19, 2021 -Reported this Friday, November 19, 15 new infected by coronavirus in the Axarquia in the last 24 hours, according to data from the Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia (IECA). It is the highest figure of the whole week, after the 11 cases of yesterday Thursday, the 14 of Wednesday, the 13 of Tuesday and the 14 of Monday. In total, 67 infections have been confirmed this week, which is an increase with respect to the 40 positives detected last week and the 45 of two weeks ago. This is the highest figure since the week of September 20-24, when 82 infections were recorded during that period. -The positive note continues to be that one more day there are no deaths in the region because of the virus, while this Friday have been added to 12 other people recovered from the disease. -With regard to new positives in the last 24 hours, have been reported: 7 in Rincon de la Victoria; 2 in Nerja and Periana; and 1 in Velez-Malaga, Torrox, Benamocarra and Macharaviaya. -As for the persons who have overcome the disease, the following have been reported: 5 in Vélez-Málaga; 3 in Frigiliana; and 1 in Rincón de la Victoria, Nerja, Torrox and Almáchar. -The incidence in the Axarquia Health District (which includes Casabermeja) is at 44.1 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, 1.7 points less than yesterday Thursday (45.8) and 3 points above a week ago (41.1). For its part, in the Health District of Malaga (to which belong Rincon de la Victoria, Macharaviaya, Moclinejo and Totalan, in addition to Malaga capital and Almogia) the incidence is 76.6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, 7.3 points more than Thursday (69.3) and 19.9 points above a week ago (56.7). Spanish Politics- Propaganda at Work on Social Media- The Twitter bot network supporting Spain’s Socialist Party and insulting journalists: During the first 16 days of November, around 20 or so coordinated Twitter accounts described Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez as “handsome” 100 times and “gorgeous” another 39 times. It’s a curious anecdote, and may have gone unnoticed had the same accounts not compulsively insulted the leader of Spain’s main opposition Popular Party (PP), Pablo Casado, on the same social network. “Corrupt,” “miserable,” “you’re disgusting,” were the comments posted under the conservative politician’s tweets more than 400 times in the last 10 weeks. Also targeted by this clutch of accounts were journalists covering the Socialist Party (PSOE), which is led by Sánchez, or the coalition government, which is run by the latter party along with junior partner Unidas Podemos. “You have fewer sources in the PSOE than I have in the KGB,” or “salmon face” were a few of the comments aimed at reporters. The repeated phrases, spelling errors, patterns in terms of the time of publication and the tool used to post the tweets are all clear evidence of coordination. The closure of the accounts by Twitter, after EL PAÍS raised the alarm, is the confirmation. Seven Dutch tourists escape from quarantine: The group of nine were travelling through Extremadura on Tuesday, November 16, when some of them felt sick and stopped in Navas del Madroño, a town halfway between the regional capital, Cáceres, and the border with Portugal. They had a test for the Covid-19 virus which confirmed their contagion, local councillor Denis Talavera told Extremadura TV. They were all ordered to isolate in the hotel as per protocol. But when health officials visited the hotel on Wednesday, seven of the Dutch tourists had managed to escape from quarantine The head of health in Extremadura, Jose Maria Vergeles, announced that international health authorities had been alerted because “this represents a problem for public health”. First fixed radars installed on Malaga’s 30km/h roads: As confirmed by Malaga City Council, they have already started the installation of the network of fixed radars in the city. They will be deployed along the main 50km of arteries around the city, to control that drivers do not exceed 30 km/h. Two of these units are already in place, but are not yet operational. Both are located on Avenida Juan Sebastian Elcano. One is next to the Hotel Elcano, and the other is installed near the old Bobby Logan nightclub. They both point in the direction of the city centre. More of these boxes are in line to be fixed in place around the city. Adding to these two new fixed radars, the Malaga Local Police have been supplied with two new portable devices. Already in the city, there are fixed kinemometers installed in Calles Pacifico and Andalucia, plus on Avenidas Calle Valle-Inclan, and Pintor Sorolla. Pretzel Logic? Malaga to avoid Christmas light crowds by leaving show times unannounced: The lights will be switched on on 26 November at 7pm. The city council announced this Thursday that the Christmas lighting on Calle Larios will include music and light shows but without a previously announced timetable. “The schedule for the shows is not going to be announced, but people will be able to come from seven to ten,” said Porras, who justified this measure by saying that it avoids large crowds of people gathering. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/malaga/malaga-city/malaga-avoid-larios-20211119115734-nt.html (Seems to me this invites larger crowds as people gather waiting for shows. Austria infuriates many with manditory vax and full lockdown as Germany warns it may follow suit: Austria will become the first country in western Europe to reimpose a full COVID-19 lockdown, it said on Friday as neighbouring Germany warned it may follow suit, sending shivers through financial markets worried about the economic fallout. Austria said it in addition to lockdown it would require the whole population to be vaccinated from Feb. 1. Both decisions infuriated many in a country where scepticism about state mandates affecting individual freedoms runs high. Roughly two-thirds of those eligible in Austria are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, one of the lowest rates in western Europe. Its infections are among the highest in Europe, with a seven-day incidence of 991 per 100,000 people. “We have not succeeded in convincing enough people to get vaccinated,” Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg told a news conference, saying the lockdown would start on Monday and the requirement to be vaccinated on Feb. 1. Why the Covid-19 vaccines do not stop the virus from circulating: Covid-19 vaccines prevent hospitalizations and death from the disease in more than 90% of cases, but they do not stop the transmission of the virus. That’s why cases among the vaccinated are to be expected: a person who has been fully immunized can still contract SARS-CoV-2 and spread it to others, even if they too are vaccinated. In Spain, contagions have been rising despite the fact that 79% of the population is fully vaccinated against Covid-19. According to the latest Health Ministry report, released Thursday evening, the 14-day incidence rate has jumped to 104 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, up eight points since Wednesday. This is the first time the data point has risen above 100 cases in two months. Windows 11 Users Complain of Slow Performance: -There’s good news ahead for Windows 11 users, especially if the upgrade has left you with a sluggish system. Microsoft is promising that fixes and updates are on the way next year that will improve the performance of the operating system, which has received numerous complaints from Windows fans. -“Performance will be an area of focus for us in 2022,” Microsoft’s Windows developer team wrote in a Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA) post as reported by TechRadar, noting that improving the responsiveness of Windows is a priority for the company. -Though stuttering performance may be an embarrassing issue for Microsoft’s latest operating system, there are other issues affecting Windows 11 as well. Memory leaks, compatibility issues, lack of customization options, and a jarring look with old UI elements mixed with Windows 11’s latest experience round out some of the top complaints we’ve heard about the OS. -Microsoft also made headlines ahead of Windows 11’s rollout with its decision to limit upgrade eligibility to newer hardware. If you’re on the fence about upgrading to Windows 11, provided your machine is compatible with the latest operating system, you’ll need to weigh your options at this time, especially given the performance-plaguing bugs still out there. IBM unveils the Eagle, the quantum processor set to revolutionize computing: The development of quantum computing is set to revolutionize computing as we know it, by exponentially increasing processing power. The latest advance in the field has come from IBM, which unveiled the Eagle processor this week. Boasting 127 qubits (quantum bits) of quantum power, it doubles the power of China’s Zuchongzhi processor, previously the world’s most advanced. -How powerful is that? IBM’s Eagle processor has the capacity to smash the record set by the Zuchonhzhi processor created by engineers at China’s University of Science and Technology and Tsinghua University in Beijing, which managed in three minutes to solve a problem of random number generation that would have taken other supercomputers 600 million years. The IBM processor is “a key milestone on the path towards practical quantum computation,” said Zaira Nazario, technical manager of Quantum Computing Theory and Applications at the US company, in a video call. Covid Andalucia- Andalusia adds 737 Covid infections in a single day but no deaths recorded:{Translation, summary} 18/11/2021, 11:41h -Andalusia has added this Thursday 737 Covid-19 infections. This is the highest number of cases in the community since the beginning of September, more than two months ago. However, this significant increase does not have a proportional response in the number of hospitalized, which stands at 206 after growing today by 12. -Thus, hospital occupancy is now only 1.28 percent of the total number of beds available in the Andalusian health system, a very low figure when compared to last winter, when there were almost 5,000 hospitalized by Covid in the community. -The cumulative incidence has risen on Thursday to 56.39 cases per hundred thousand inhabitants. -Proof that the current situation has nothing to do with what has been seen before in Andalusia is the fact that the community reports this Thursday zero deaths by Covid. The number of deaths -which in general have already totaled 11,381 since the beginning of the pandemic- are at a minimum, as are the hospitals. Update On Proposed Radical New Pet/Animal Laws: This is what we know about the sweeping new animal rights laws that are under development. You still have time to contact your regional representitive if you want your opinion heard. -The law considers that no animal is dangerous because of its breed and that dogs must be valued individually. For this reason, the list of dangerous dogs is eliminated. -No individual will be able to raise their own pets. Breeding and sale can only be done by registered professionals. -The legal draft prohibits the breeding of non-native wild animals, that is to say, originating in another country, both terrestrial and marine, as well as trading with them, in particular for the exploitation of their skins or by-products. And zoos or dolphinariums will not be able to breed or acquire new animals, except those threatened species. More new rules in source article. Cómpeta will have a new health center in the spring of 2022:{Translation} This will replace the current one, an office of just one hundred square meters, enabled in what was the old rural doctor’s house. According to SUR, the works, which were put out to tender last August, at a cost of over 400,000 euros, have an expected completion period of four months, so that, if there are no setbacks, the new space will be available next spring. The two doctors and two nurses who attend the population on a daily basis will be able to move there. The new space will have up to eight medical offices, as well as waiting rooms, toilets, 24-hour emergency service and an administration area, among other services. The mayor has complained, however, that since last summer there has been no pediatrician in the town, so parents still have to travel to the health center in Algarrobo, almost 15 kilometers away, if they want their young children to be attended by these specialists. From Mid-2022 Brits Will No Longer Have Their Passports Stamped During EU Border Checks: British nationals travelling to and from European Union countries from May 2022 and on will no longer have their passports stamped, as the information on the date of their entry to the block, or the exit, will be recorded through a new automated system. EU’s Entry/Exit System (EES) is set to become fully functional in May next year, though it has been reported that the EES may experience some delays. The system will register entry and exit data and refusal of entry data of third-country nationals crossing EU’s external borders, including here Britons, which means that passport stamping will become unnecessary. Brits Will Have to Pay €7 Once in 3 Years & Not Every Time They Travel to EU: Some British media have been sparking panic amid British nationals regarding trips to the European Union Member States starting from mid-2022, more specifically, regarding the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS). The latter is a travel authorization, which the nationals of third countries under the Schengen visa-free regime will have to obtain sometime in the second half of next year, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports. The new requirement will hardly make trips to Europe more expensive. Not only because a €7 fee per application is quite low in comparison to fees that other third countries pay for visa applications (€80), but also because British nationals will have to apply for an ETIAS only every three years, and not each time they travel to the EU. Halting Erosion using Vetiver: From Vetiver Spain in Sayalonga Our Nursery is open by appointment. Please email or call first. We have Moringa seedlings, Organic Moringa powder and Comfrey plants. We also have some local trees and some exotic trees from Africa. Vetiver is a rapid growing and non-invasive sterile clump grass with a height of 1-2 metres and a root system of 3-4 metres in depth. We have been providing Vetiver throughout the EU for almost 10 years now. We are located in Sayalonga where we can plant year round but our best results by far start in February. The reason is that Vetiver is indigenous to India and Vetiver loves the heat of the summer. Use Vetiver cuttings as mulch around all of your fruit trees. Decomposing Vetiver improves soil quality, keeps the weeds down and the insects away all while helping to maintain soil moisture. Vetiver is a nutritious and replenishable animal fodder. Horses and pigs love it. We use it in our chicken pens replacing hay because it stops mites. In the 2 photos below you will see land prepared for Vetiver and the results 2 years later. We also use Vetiver along driveways and sidewalks. It also makes a great and inexpensive ornamental hedge. Here is a link to a short video showing the results. https://youtu.be/rjTmb_LL2uo We suggest planting now, as this is the BEST time of the year to plant. To see more images of Vetiver go to this link. https://www.vetiverspain.org/photo-gallery.html Presently we have some specials, which include free shipping to numerous locations. For more information please contact us. Please visit us or visit our website: www.vetiverspain.com Email: info@vetiverspain.com Telephone: (34) 692 288 657

Operators will have to offer a basic package of internet services in rural and more depopulated areas: The Council of Ministers approved this Tuesday a reform of the General Telecommunications Law that includes new features for the provision of universal services throughout the territory. With this, the Government intends to break the “gap” that occurs in internet access in less populated and more remote areas, guaranteeing a basic service for customers who request it. The law replaces the previous regulation, from 2014, updating the basic services package. In addition, it will no longer be a single operator, Telefónica, but it will affect the rest of the competitors, who will have to offer these services in Spain, regardless of the location, and with an “affordable” price, according to sources from the Secretary of State for Telecommunications. Thus, “adequate access to broadband internet with a minimum set of services” must be guaranteed. This list includes guaranteeing access to the internet, email, search engines, basic training tools, press, purchase of goods and services, banking, relationship with the administration, social networks and instant messaging. Renfe offers ‘Black Friday’ ticket sale with bargain-basement prices for travel in 2022: The Spanish train operator’s promotional offer is valid for purchases made between 15 and 19 November and includes the AVE high-speed services and other long-distance routes. For example, Malaga – Madrid, €20.30. Source: https://www.renfe.com/es/es/promociones/ofertas-black-friday
Consumers will be able to demand that a human and not a machine answer their telephone complaints: In addition to regulating the use of answering machines or similar as exclusive means of customer service, the future law contemplates the obligation of the company to maintain a personalized communication when the consumer formulates a query, complaint, claim or communication of incidence, by telephone or electronics. In the event of dissatisfaction with the care received, the consumer may request that the communication be transferred to a supervising natural person, who must attend to him during the same communication. The law establishes limits on telephone waiting times and prohibits referral from a toll-free telephone to numbers that imply an additional cost for the customer. The hours of customer service will be adjusted to the business hours of the company. In the basic services of general interest, customer service will always be available for the communication of incidents in the service. Banks that don’t charge you fees for having an account: In recent months, some customers have been surprised by the commission banks have begun to charge for products that were previously free or low-cost. Some of these prices exceed 200 euros per year in the case of not meeting some conditions. Despite everything, there are still some banks that do not charge commissions. The specialized website Helpmycash collects which ones maintain their account maintenance for free. Full article: https://spainsnews.com/banks-that-dont-charge-you-fees-for-having-an-account/

German regulator puts brake on Nord Stream 2 in fresh blow to gas pipeline: Germany’s energy regulator has suspended the approval process for a major new pipeline bringing Russian gas into Europe, throwing up a new roadblock to the contentious project and driving up regional gas prices. The watchdog said on Tuesday it had temporarily halted the certification process because the Swiss-based consortium behind Nord Stream 2 first needed to form a German subsidiary company under German law to secure an operating licence. European prices jumped almost 11% on news of the hold-up. Full article: https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/german-energy-regulator-suspends-nord-stream-2-certification-makes-demands-2021-11-16/

Facebook and Instagram continue to extract the browsing data of people under 18 years of age despite promises to stop: -This investigation comes two months after internal documents leaked by engineer Frances Haugen Uncover that, especially Instagram, encourages the insecurity of young girls with their bodies, amplifies content of eating disorders such as bulimia and accentuates anxiety and depression in adolescents. Facebook knew it and still did not respond to the huge problem. -With what was announced this summer, the platform seemed to limit the scope of “surveillance advertising” on adolescents, a long time complaint by different organizations that denounced the exposure of minors to the toxicity of the social network. The study, prepared by the NGOs Fairplay, Global Action and Reset Australia, points out that both Facebook and Instagram continue to track them. -In an open letter to Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta –new name of the parent company–, 44 activist groups have denounced that “the large amount of data it collects on children continues to be used to determine which ones are most likely to be vulnerable to a certain ad”. The Public Health Commission will debate this Tuesday a new version that updates the criteria to the current context -in which the majority of the population is vaccinated-, according to the newspaper El País and confirmed by elDiario.es. – Until now, an incidence of 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants marked the difference between low and medium risk. If Public Health approves this Tuesday the draft with which it is working, this indicator will rise to 100 cases, according to information from El País. High risk will be reached at 300 cases; very high risk, at 500 cases. -The accumulated incidence is not the only indicator taken into account to establish these alert levels. Other parameters such as hospital occupancy or ICU occupancy are also taken into account. The new draft adds other indicators on the evolution of this care pressure, such as the number of new admissions in the last week. -The traffic light recommends different measures to be applied depending on the level of alert in each territory, but the autonomous communities have the margin to decide whether to apply them or not. The draft proposes that in places at alert level 1, the capacity of bars and restaurants should be limited to 80%. For level 2, it establishes a capacity of 50% and a maximum of 15 people per group. For level 3, it is recommended the total closure of interiors. -The technicians of the Ministry of Health and the autonomous communities have been working for months on this revision of the thresholds for measuring the pandemic. The traffic light currently in force was designed for a situation very different from the current one, without the effect of mass vaccination. -On Monday, health authorities recorded an incidence of 82 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, ten points more than on Friday, after adding 9,798 new infections during the weekend. Authorities have also reported 43 more deaths in the last three days. The autonomous communities with the highest incidence are Navarra, with 203 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and Euskadi, with 174. Four hand signals by traffic cops that drivers must know and obey: In large cities, it is common to see traffic police officers directing traffic, especially at times with the highest concentration of vehicles. This is normally between the hours 7.30am and 9:30am, then again from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Instructions from these officers are classed as being of a higher priority than traffic lights, vertical road signs, or road markings. When they give you a signal with an arm movement, you should obey it, or risk a fine. In some instances, you could face a prison sentence for disobeying. There are four possible signals that a traffic cop could use. ANDALUCIA
Andalusia, vigilant but not worried about Covid- no measures “for now”:{Translation, summary} :15/11/2021 18:34h -The Board is vigilant but not worried about the slow increase in Covid infections in Andalusia said Minister Jesus Aguirre, when asked by journalists about the convening of the committee of experts in the coming days. -According to Aguirre, the meeting could take place next week, after the presentation by the Governing Council of the High Frequency Plan of the healthcare system. At this meeting, he added, in addition to the analysis of the epidemiological situation of Covid, the surveillance system for influenza and other respiratory diseases will be discussed. -The head of Health has also explained that from the Board there is anticipation and expectation due to the already clearly upward evolution of Covid-19 infections. However, there is no concern because the healthcare pressure remains very low. “Andalusia is at level 0 and will remain at level 0,” stressed the counselor, thus ruling out the implementation of new measures against the pandemic. However, Aguirre recalled that the traffic light implemented in the de-escalation that involves the recovery of some measures as the pandemic progresses is still in force. -“We are not worried,” stressed Aguirre, who has insisted on transmitting to the population “prudence” and recalled the need to wear masks, keep their distance and wash their hands. The Minister believes that there is no need to be alarmed because the high degree of protection of the vaccine is a guarantee that what is to come of the pandemic will not be like the past. More than a hundred hens abandoned in garbage bags in Velez:{Translation} This has been the surprising finding in the early afternoon in a lane that connects the road to Torrox with the Higueral road, just outside the industrial estate of Velez-Malaga. As AxarquiaPlus has learned that at least 100 laying hens were abandoned alive and stuffed in closed garbage bags. When the local police were alerted, some of the animals were already dead, it is not known whether before putting them in the bags or as a result of it. The exact number of dead hens has not been determined either. The company Don Animal has proceeded to remove the live hens, while the municipal cleaning service contractor, Althenia, has done the same with the dead ones. At this time the perpetrator or perpetrators are unknown. Source, Spanish: https://www.axarquiaplus.es/encuentran-mas-de-un-centenar-de-gallinas-abandonadas-en-bolsas-de-basura-en-velez/

Invention of this engineer from Extremadura claims to produce free electricity from home:{Translation} -A man from Extremadura named Juan Luis Fernández Garrido has created a generator to reduce the electricity bill of families. The inventor explained to Hoy Zafra that his intention is “to prevent humble people from having to pay the high price of electricity”. The first test has been carried out with a Samsung cell phone. They develop a cell phone charger that supplies electricity through urine. -Fernández Garrido started working when he was 14 years old in a watchmaker’s shop and, later, he would work at Diter, where he assembled engines while running a motorcycle workshop. From a very young age, the Extremaduran was interested in electromagnetic devices and, self-taught, has designed inventions with the purpose of helping people. -His power generator is the most important invention he has developed to date. The project began to be devised in 1996, however, until 3 years ago it had not yet been finished. -As the Extremaduran explains, his device works with a magnetic anchor that makes a wheel move by means of an exact wavelength of magnetic charge. Fernández Garrido points out that the wheel “works sympathetically, freely, and without being connected to any energy source”. -In addition, the inventor assures that his generator charges in the same way as a battery does, so its use can be prolonged over time. Fernández Garrido has already tested this device at home and has found that it can replace electricity in many homes -“In my house I am not hooked to the light with any company, and some neighbors have used it to be able to have light in their house and heat when they have gone or have had some electrical problem”, emphasizes the Extremaduran. -Fernández Garrido has announced that he intends to donate his power generator to the public domain. “Generating energy is very cheap, but the big multinationals set the price they want and I don’t want to allow humble people to pay the price they are asking for energy that is so cheap to produce”, says the inventor. Takeaways from the new UN climate deal: Going into the Glasgow talks, most countries, including the United States, China and the 27 members of the European Union, declared new, more ambitious targets for reducing emissions. Here’s a look at what was achieved in Glasgow. -Countries agreed to firmly focus on the most ambitious goal in the 2015 Paris accord, of keeping global warming from going beyond 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 Fahrenheit). -They also agreed to explicitly target coal use and fossil fuel subsidies, though the original proposals were greatly watered down. -United States and European Union members rejected demands to establish a fund to compensate poor countries for the destruction wrought by climate change, which developed countries are significantly responsible for because of their past emissions, according to the poor countries. Kidney patients offered new hope with a diabetes pill which could slash the numbers of people who need dialysis and organ transplants: A pill used for diabetes is set to revolutionize the treatment of deadly kidney disease – potentially sparing tens of thousands from dialysis and organ transplants, and saving hundreds of lives every year. NHS chiefs have granted roughly 91,000 sufferers access to the drug, the first new development in treatment of the condition in 20 years. The approval follows a study which found a daily dose of dapagliflozin slashed the risk of needing dialysis, a transplant and even death by up to 39 per cent. We are committed to making effective products at affordable prices. Your skin health matters to us. How you feed your skin is as important as how you feed your body. Chaos in electricity bills due to errors in meter reading since June: Adding to the rising cost of electricity in Spain is another problem that affects thousands of homes when paying the electricity bill. A delay persists in billing due to computer failures that have been dragging on since last June, as this newspaper reported. As of today, the chaos with these electricity bills has not been resolved because the actual consumption data in thousands of cases is still not transferred to paper, as quantified by the sector. Utilities blame distributors for the collapse in computer systems after the change in tolls methodology since the new rate came into effect. Recommendation for DoctorLaptop: Just a quick note to recommend Doctor Laptop to DigameXtra subscribers and friends. We were looking for two new laptops but found the price of these have increased nearly two fold. So we gave Naythan our to old laptops to upgrade to Windows 10, service and check/repair the hard drives. The two laptops are now working so much faster and the upgrade to windows 10 will see them through to 2025. Good job and money saved. Thanks Naythan. Brussels slashes Spain’s growth forecast, projecting slower recovery than EU neighbors: Spain is growing and coming out of the economic crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic, which saw gross domestic product (GDP) in the country fall by levels not seen since the Spanish Civil War in the late 1930s. But it is doing so at a slower rate than expected, and faces the risk of being left behind by other countries in the euro zone. That’s the situation outlined by the autumn economic forecast released by the European Commission on Thursday. For 2021, Spain is expected to grow 4.6%, 1.6 points below the figure predicted in the summer forecast and 1.9 points below the government’s estimate, upon which next year’s budget plans are based. In 2022, output is projected to rise 5.5%, which is also far below the summer forecast. Spanish truck drivers announce three-day strike ahead of Christmas: Spain’s National Road Transportation Committee (CNTC) announced on Wednesday a three-day strike, between December 20 and 22, to protest what it calls the government’s failure to address a crisis in the sector. In a press release issued Wednesday evening, the CNTC – which represents freight truck drivers in Spain – accused the administration of “neglect,” arguing that “all reasonable channels of negotiation have been exhausted.” If the strike is not called off, it could negatively affect the supply chain ahead of Christmas – key days for business, when more is sold than at any other time of the year. The last national strike from the sector took place in June 2008, at the beginning of the financial crisis, and led to massive bottlenecks and fuel shortages. Eastern Europe, facing covid surge, also battles vaccine hesitancy: Europe was one of the first regions in the world to deploy vaccines against the coronavirus, yet parts of the continent are now seeing a resurgence in cases, with some countries experiencing their highest infection levels of the pandemic. In the Czech Republic, about 57 percent of people are fully vaccinated, new daily cases are up 33 percent over the past week, while infections in both Austria and Croatia have jumped 54 percent, according to a Washington Post tracker. On Tuesday, Germany’s weekly case rate soared to a record 213 new infections per 100,000 people, according to the country’s infectious-disease agency, eclipsing last winter’s high of about 197. About 66 percent of Germans are fully vaccinated, according to Our World in Data, putting Germany just slightly behind Britain and France. The European Union’s overall vaccination rate hovers at about 65 percent, buoyed in part by sky-high vaccine uptake in countries like Portugal, but bogged down by lagging efforts in Central and Eastern Europe. Only a third of the populations in Russia and Romania are fully vaccinated. In Russia, recorded infections are at their highest levels yet, with about 40,000 new cases reported each day. Dutch consider new partial lockdown as coronavirus cases hit record: The Dutch government on Thursday was considering whether to impose Western Europe’s first partial lockdown since the summer, as new coronavirus cases jumped to the highest level since the start of the pandemic. To contain the outbreak, the government’s pandemic advisory panel on Thursday recommended imposing a partial lockdown, shutting down theatres and cinemas, scrapping large events and closing cafes and restaurants earlier, broadcaster NOS reported. Football News- Sweden shocker in Georgia opens door for Spain: Sweden slumped to a shock 2-0 defeat in Georgia on Thursday handing Spain a lifeline in their bid to secure qualification for next year’s World Cup in Qatar. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia struck twice in the second half for the hosts in Tblisi as a Sweden side boasting Zlatan Ibrahimovic and rising star Alexander Isak were humbled. Spain can now go to the top of Group B when they face Greece in Athens Thursday. Sweden’s stumble means even if Spain fail to take all three points, they will have a second chance to secure their place in Qatar when they host the Swedes in Seville on Sunday. Cryptocurrency Is Forbidden for Muslims, Indonesia’s National Religious Council Rules: The use of crypto assets as a currency is forbidden for Muslims, according to Indonesia’s council of religious leaders. The National Ulema Council, or MUI, has deemed cryptocurrency as haram, or banned, as it has elements of uncertainty, wagering and harm, Asrorun Niam Sholeh, head of religious decrees, said on Thursday after the council held an expert hearing. If cryptocurrency as a commodity or digital asset can abide by Shariah tenets and can show a clear benefit, then it can be traded, he added. Indonesia’s government itself has been supportive of crypto assets, allowing it to be traded alongside commodity futures as an investment option and pushing to set up a crypto-focused exchange by the end of the year. Indonesia doesn’t allow the use of crypto assets as a form of currency, as the rupiah is the only legal tender in the country. The stance of Indonesia’s religious leaders may diverge from their counterparts in other Muslim-majority countries. The United Arab Emirates have allowed crypto trading in Dubai’s free zone, while Bahrain have backed crypto assets since 2019.
