We are a Torrox-based company specialising in the creation of formulae which help prevent premature skin ageing. We are committed to making effective products at affordable prices.
Your skin health matters to us. How you feed your skin is as important as how you feed your body. Why settle for anything less than natural and organic?
As our skin is the first layer of our defence against microbial infections, ultraviolet radiation and environmental contamination it plays a vital role in our health. As we grow older, however, our skin becomes thinner, wrinkled, and more sensitive; hence it requires the use of treatments containing specific ingredients to the care of treating mature skin.
Recognising this need we have created a range of formulae which help
-slow down ageing process by smoothing fine lines and wrinkles.
-improve facial complexion and eliminate blemishes.
At Moonette, we are passionate about health, beauty and plants. Your skin will benefit from the properties of botanic essential oils combined with a selection of nutrients for deep hydration, cell revitalization and antioxidant effect, all sourced from the finest natural ingredients with gorgeous fragrances.

COVID-19

Covid Andalucía- All Indicators Trending Lower:
{Translation} 04/02/2022 16:25
-This Friday the community recorded 5,136 positive results for Covid-19. This is some 300 fewer than yesterday and, furthermore, 3,000 fewer than on the same day last week.
-This sustained drop in the number of cases of coronavirus has meant that the incidence has also fallen sharply. Thus, this Friday it stands at 807 cases per hundred thousand inhabitants at two weeks, almost 50 points less in one day. There is also a drop in this value at one week, which suggests that the curve will continue to decline in the coming days.
-In hospitalised patients, there has been a drop and, in addition, Andalusia has broken through the threshold of 2,000 admitted by Covid. The community has this Friday 1,985 patients by coronavirus, 107 less than yesterday and 345 less than at the peak of this wave, which occurred on 25 January, with 2,330 hospitalised.
-The number of ICU patients has also fallen again, which confirms that the wave is slowing down. This Friday there are 229, seven less than yesterday. In addition, the community has now had three consecutive days with decreases in this area.
-And there has also been a drop in the number of reported deaths this Friday. There are 20, less than half of those reported on Thursday (52) and less than on the same day last week (28). However, it is still too early to confirm that this variable is also in decline and we will have to wait for the next few days to see how it evolves. Covid Malaga- Drop in healthcare pressure with 40 fewer hospitalized with Covid in Malaga: {Translation} 4Feb22 14:02
-The pandemic seems to be taking a break. This Friday there is a sharp drop in the pressure on hospitals, more people are being cured than newly infected and the rate of infection has been falling for the past two weeks. However, five more deaths have been reported with the virus.
-The most significant figure in the report provided by the Consejería de Salud y Familias is the number of hospitalised patients. This Friday there are 383. 40 less than the previous day, when there were 423. Of those who are hospitalised, 39 remain in Intensive Care due to their seriousness.
-The downside of the report is that there are five more deaths of people infected with the virus. But that means that of the 40 who are no longer in hospital, the vast majority are because they have been discharged. Since March 2020, 12,556 Covid-infected patients have required hospitalisation, including 1,107 in an ICU. With regard to deaths, after the latest notifications, the total since the start of the pandemic in the province of Malaga is 2,192.
-Another number to be optimistic about is the number of people cured of the disease, which is once again higher than the number infected. There are 1,492 compared to 920 new positives. This is a good ratio because it means that more people have overcome the disease than have contracted it. The cumulative number of discharges in these almost two years of epidemiological crisis is 202,050 at the provincial level.
-And another encouraging fact: the rate continues to fall. It has been falling for two weeks. On Thursday it was 701.7 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and now stands at 668.2 at provincial level. The same trend is registered in Andalusia – from 850.4 to 807.3 – and in the city of Malaga – where it has fallen from 742.5 to 710.1. Source, Spanish:

SPAIN

Spain set to lift the mandatory use of masks outdoors order next week:
The Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, has confirmed government ministers will meet on Tuesday to approve the Royal Decree that will eliminate the coronavirus control measure on the streets, possibly as soon as Wednesday. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/spain/spain-lift-mandatory-20220204094702-nt.html

OCU considers it unscientific to maintain the mandatory use of face masks outdoors: {Translation} 3Feb22 9am
-The Organisation of Consumers and Users (OCU) is calling on the Ministry of Health to end the compulsory wearing of masks outdoors except in those circumstances in which it is not possible to maintain a safe distance in interactions with other people, as has always been recommended by the WHO.
-For OCU, the measure approved in the Congress of Deputies is ineffective for the prevention of the coronavirus and causes enormous fatigue among citizens after two years of pandemic and 6 waves of contagions that have served to accumulate enough evidence about the effectiveness of the various protective measures that were lacking in March 2020. OCU recalls, in this regard, that the mandatory and continuous use of masks outdoors has never been part of the recommendations of the WHO or other agencies and scientific societies. OCU also recalls that it does not exist in other countries with contagion figures even higher than those currently recorded in Spain.
-OCU also considers it necessary to evaluate the cost-benefit of many of the restrictive measures that have been taken during the different waves of the virus. Citizens do not understand the continuity of many of them in view of the null effects in some cases or the unequal application of the same in different autonomous regions and countries.
-In addition to eliminating the compulsory use of masks outdoors, OCU asks the Ministry of Health to address a specific and precise timetable for the withdrawal of restrictive measures in schools, nursing homes and health centres so that the most vulnerable people (children, the elderly, the sick) can return to normality as soon as possible and not see their psychological development and mental health, which in many cases has been seriously affected by the pandemic and its effects, damaged in this way.
-Finally, OCU calls on the Ministry of Health and the Autonomous Communities to address the normalisation of the accompaniment of hospitalised people and those at the end of life, as well as mobility and visiting arrangements in homes for the elderly, which are still substantially restricted and which have serious effects on both patients and their families. Source, Spanish: https://www.axarquiahoy.es/articulo/salud/ocu-considera-poco-cientifico-mantener-uso-obligatorio-mascarilla-exteriores/20220203082049046293.html

ANDALUCIA

Countdown Begins! – The Board sets a date for “normality” after considering the peak of the sixth wave has been overcome: {Translation} 04/02/2022, 10:28
-The Regional Minister for Health and Families, Jesús Aguirre, stated this Friday “clearly and forcefully that there is a downward trend” in the sixth wave of the coronavirus pandemic, both in the accumulated incidence of cases per 100,000 inhabitants and in hospital pressure, where the number of hospital admissions has already fallen below 2,000. He is confident that once the “peak” of this wave has been passed, in “15 or 20 days” the pandemic situation can enter a phase of “normality”.
-Speaking to Canal Sur TV, reported by Europa Press, Aguirre stressed that today she can say “clearly and forcefully that there is a downward trend”, not only in the accumulated incidence, which has been on a downward trend for three and a half weeks and which this Friday stands at 807 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, but also in terms of hospital pressure, which is now below 2,000 hospitalised, standing at 1,985, of which 229 are in ICU, a figure which is also falling.
-“We hope that the drop in this sixth wave will be rapid, just as the rise was rapid, and that in a few days’ time we will have a certain degree of calm,” said the minister, who wanted to make it clear, in any case, that in no way “can we relax the measures” of security. “We are in a clear fall, we have overcome the peak of the wave, but the virus continues to live with us, there are still deaths, admissions and many contagions, so we must take every precaution,” Aguirre insisted.
-The minister added that the hope is to reach “the low level of accumulated incidence in 15 or 20 days and to enter a phase of normality that will last over time”.
-As for the presence of the stealth subgroup in this wave of the omicron variant, he pointed out that very few cases have been detected in Andalusia with “a certain ease”, with a “focus” in Granada, and noted that although it seems more contagious, it is less virulent, so its presence does not generate greater concern. Sevilla Farmer Protest: {Translation} Half a thousand tractors and more than 4,000 farmers have participated in the massive tractor raid called by the agricultural organizations Asaja Sevilla, UPA, COAG, and Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias, which has cut off the AP-4 motorway, at the height of the Sevillian town of El Cuervo, to make visible once again his weariness and the authentic reality of the Andalusian countryside: “we can’t do it anymore”. “What else has to happen in Spain for the Government to realize that they have ruined us?”, the attendees lamented.
-Although there have been some moments of tension with the presence of the Civil Guard and some protesters who wanted to bypass the security cordon, finally the cut, which has lasted three hours, has been carried out as planned. “We have been stopped by the pandemic, but we need to make it visible, in unity of action as we have been doing for months, if they do not want to listen to us, we will continue, we need something to be done,” insisted Ricardo Serra, president of Asaja Sevilla. A “call for help”, as he has described it, to insist that “the field is fed up with political leaders telling lies and that, if something is not done, and Minister Planas does not attend to our claims, the entire sector will will go to waste.”
-In addition, it has detailed all of this occurs in a context in which the prices in origin “have fallen or are at a standstill”, and the production costs have gone up exponentially. Therefore, the farmers, locals are calling for action to bring its laws and the cost of labor to the reality of the field, an effective application of the law of the chain, and that upholds the dignity of agriculture.
-This is not the only mobilization of the field that has been held in recent weeks in Andalusia. A few days ago, there was an agrarian strike in Jaén in which practically the vast majority of cooperatives and companies in the province participated. Photo: Asaja Seville. MALAGA

Mystery of why this cruise ship has been anchored off the Costa del Sol for more than a month is solved: The Seabourn Encore cruise ship, which has been anchored in Malaga bay since 27 December, is waiting to start its season and will set sail for Lisbon on 19 February. It has been a source of interest from sunbathers and people strolling on the coast’s beaches for several weeks as it has not budged from it’s position. But SUR can reveal that the cruise ship, owned by the Carnival group, will sail to Lisbon first before embarking on a 10-day cruise of the Canary Islands. https://www.surinenglish.com/malaga/malaga-city/seabourn-encore-sail-20220204112331-nt.html

City council bans overnight parking next to the Martín Carpena sports arena in Malaga after complaints: A councillor said the area was overrun with motorhomes and the situation was “unsustainable” because the space was designed for barely 100 and there are already more than 300, in addition to tents and other vehicles.
-From next week it will be illegal to park any type of vehicle next to the Martín Carpena sports arena in Malaga between midnight and 9am each day of the week. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/malaga/malaga-city/malaga-city-council-20220204154008-nt.html

SPAIN

Spanish labour reform passed in knife-edge vote, opposition blames error: Spain’s fragmented parliament approved the minority leftist government’s labour reform on Thursday by a margin of just one vote, which the main opposition party said had come from one of its members by mistake and vowed to try to annul the result.
The decree that overturns a previous conservative administration’s pro-business reforms by granting more power to unions in bargaining contracts is a cornerstone of a raft of conditions for Spain receiving the next 12 billion euro disbursement of European pandemic recovery funds.
Spain is the EU country with the highest use of temporary contracts, covering around a quarter of the workforce. The new regulation tightens conditions for their use, limiting them to short periods of time.
One of the labour groups that stands to benefit the most from the new legislation are hotel housekeepers, known locally as Kellys, long a symbol of precarious work in the tourism-dependent country. Diaz said such workers’ annual income would increase by about 2,500 euros in some cases. Petrol prices in Spain hit record levels: Petrol prices in Spain have skyrocketed this week, reaching a new historical high. A fifth consecutive price rise saw fuel on the forecourts rise to its most expensive level; prices have gone up by another 5.6 per cent.
Specifically, the average price of petrol this week stood at €1,538/litre, which represents an increase of 1.18 per cent compared to a week ago. This is a historical record, exceeding the €1,522 of September 2012.
Despite these levels, the average price of unleaded 95 petrol in Spain is still below the average of the European Union, which stands at €1,680/litre. In the euro zone, the average price is €1,745. Full article:

Spain is betting on “cohousing” for its elderly and low earners: Cohousing, which can be called vivienda colaborativa in Spanish even though the English terminology is preferred, is an arrangement that sees residents in a building have their own private accommodation but share common spaces such as the kitchen, laundry or other living areas.
The Spanish government wants to invest in cohousing buildings where people of all ages live under the same roof and share common spaces, like many collage housing schemes do, as a dignified way for the elderly to avoid loneliness and a cost-effective form of social housing for those struggling to pay their rent. GRANADA

Granada Gets Its Third Super Computer: The University of Granada on Tuesday launched a new supercomputer called Albaícin, which has a massive 822 teraflops of processing power – a teraflop is the equivalent of one trillion calculations per second. According to the university’s rector, Pilar Aranda, this supercomputer will be available to the more than 125 research groups and 500 scientists at UGR and other public universities in Andalusia.
Albaícin is actually UGR’s third supercomputer. But technology has advanced very far since the university’s first projects, and this has led to a significant increase in processing power. Albaícin is 200 times faster than UGR’s first supercomputer, which was launched in 2007, and 20 times faster than its second, which came out in 2013. Blanca Biel, a researcher of molecular and nuclear atomic physics at UGR, said that her work in nanotechnology will benefit greatly from the new supercomputer. Photo:FERMIN RODRIGUEZ

“Undisturbed” woolly mammoth and other Ice Age remains found in Devon: The bones, including those of a woolly rhinoceros, wolf and hyena, are thought to date to the last Ice Age – about 30,000 to 60,000 years ago.
Archaeologists found the remains during work as part of the development of a new town near Plymouth. Excavation during infrastructure work led to the discovery of the animal remains in an area near old lime kilns and Sherford Quarry.
The archaeological team has so far found the partial remains of a woolly mammoth and a woolly rhinoceros, along with a virtually complete wolf skeleton and the partial remains of a hyena, horse, reindeer, mountain hare and red fox. Full article: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-devon-60234766

You can now pay traffic fines, make appts and perform other DGT tasks from your phone: The latest update to the miDGT (My DGT) app for drivers in Spain improves on several functions, as well as adding new ones. The most notable of these is that it now allows drivers to pay fines via their mobile phones.
Drivers no longer have to go to the bank or DGT (Directorate General of Traffic) offices to pay fines for speeding or other traffic offences and can simply pay it online via the app by inputting their bank details. In addition, the app also enables you to download a receipt for the payment if you ever need proof. Facebook daily users total shrinks for the first time in its history: {Translation, summary}
It had to happen one day. For the first time in its history, Facebook is losing daily users. In the last quarter of 2021, the social networking giant recorded a drop of up to 500,000 users per day, leading to its first decline since the company’s founding in 2004, 17 years ago.
Although this decrease may seem small in general terms, the figure certifies the concern of the American technology company about a slowdown in its growth and in the income it obtains from advertising (its main business), a problem that has been dragging on for years as younger people prefer TikTok or Snapchat. Zuckerberg loses $29 billion in a day as Meta/Fakebook shares crash: Mark Zuckerberg lost $29 billion in net worth on Thursday as Meta Platforms Inc’s stock marked a record one-day plunge following a disappointing earnings forecast that shook the global tech landscape.
Meta’s stock fell 26%, erasing more than $200 billion in the biggest ever single-day market value wipeout for a U.S. company. That pulled down founder and Chief Executive Officer Zuckerberg’s net worth to $85 billion, according to Forbes. New Variant of UpdateAgent Malware Infects Mac Computers with Adware: The actively in-development malware is said to be propagated via drive-by downloads (automated download of software to a user’s device from a website, without the user’s knowledge or consent) or advertisement pop-ups that masquerade as legitimate software like video applications and support agents.
Once installed, the Adload malware makes use of ad injection software and man-in-the-middle techniques to intercept and reroute users’ internet traffic through the attacker’s servers to insert rogue ads into web pages and search engine results as they monitor your browser activity and searches. Canada will not use troops against truckers’ blockade, more protests planned: The Canadian government will not use troops against truckers whose nearly week-long protest of vaccine mandates has brought traffic in central Ottawa to a halt, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Thursday. Trucks and other vehicles have been blockading downtown roads in the nation’s capital since last Friday in what is an unprecedented protest by Canadian standards. Organizers say drivers plan to hold similar protests in Toronto and Quebec City later this week.
Ottawa police, who have made just three arrests so far, issued 30 traffic tickets on Wednesday.

Sacrebleu! French brewer uses algae to make blue beer: The beer, with the brand name “Line”, is the result of a tie-up between a firm that wants to popularise the algae as a dietary supplement, and a nearby craft brewery that was looking for a way to make its beverages more distinctive.
The blue tint comes from spirulina, an algae that is grown in northern France. The component of the spirulina that gives the blue colour, called phycocyanin, is then added to the beer during the brewing process. Photo:REUTERS. If you can’t get to church, we live-stream our Sunday services on Facebook, and also gather on Zoom for an informal service on Wednesday mornings.
Sign up for our newsletter by emailing Father Louis at malagachaplain@gmail.com to receive login details, and news of other future events. We look forward to welcoming you and being of service.

An Exhibition of Paintings by Helen Purdie beginning Thursday 3rd February in Frigiliana:
The exhibition is being held at the Sala de Exposiciones Real 98, Calle Real, 29788 Frigiliana
It will be open from 11.00 – 15.00 hrs on Thursdays to Sundays from 3rd – 27th February
This will be Helen Purdie’s second exhibition in Spain since moving to Torróx pueblo. There will be over thirty paintings show-casing Helen’s unique work in acrylic and watercolour on canvas, wood and paper. She is inspired by the energising and soothing blue sky of Andalucía. Many of the paintings bring the viewer’s attention to just looking up, pausing in the moment to see where plants, trees, rocks and buildings are caught against the blue sky. The studio paintings, some taking hundreds of hours to paint, have a strong graphic quality whereas those painted outdoors are very gestural in nature. This mix of approaches in one artist makes for an interesting viewing experience.
-Helen is a self-taught artist. She left her health service career within surgery over ten years ago to pursue her painting. She has exhibited widely in that time and has many works in private and public collections. She has also published two books, one a collection of drawings undertaken in the operating rooms of a hospital in Sheffield, UK, the other a colouring book of life as an autistic adult.
Further information about Helen Purdie’s work and contact details for all enquiries about the exhibition can be found at www.helenpurdie.co.uk

Interpreter: Now that numbers of covid are slowing, hospitals and doctors are picking up the slack, and more appointments are being made for operations and consults with doctors.
You will need a interpreter. A lot of doctors speak a little English, but it saves so much of their time if you have someone knowledgeable with you, to explain your problems and to understand what the doctor’s conclusions are.
I can help. I was a volunteer in the hospital for fifteen years. So I’m well aquainted with many of the doctors and any paper work that is necessary. I know all the hospitals in Malaga too. AND, I can pick you up, if needed.
I charge a flat fee. Not by the hour.

Men’s clothes: Can any Digamites recommend a good shop for men’s clothes. Since Covid, Lorenzo’s in Calle Pinta, Nerja have been closed. Antivirus experiences: I’m looking for anyone’s experience of free antivirus programs. I’ve looked up some stuff via Google but if they’re as good as reviews say why does anyone pay? Interested to know views. Cheri / Torrox. Email: cherivinall@ hotmail.com
(DoctorLaptop replies: Most reviews you will see on the internet are by affiliates of the antivirus companies and are not reliable. Websites get paid to push products with good reviews. The Windows Defender Security that comes with Windows 10 ranks in the top 5 of all (free or paid) antivirus programs as judged by independent reviewers. Any third party antivirus program will slow your computer down, unless you have a newish, rather powerful computer. This is especially true for Avast, AVG, Norton & McAfee. In my experience, regarding Windows 10, the only reason to use a 3rd party antivirus is if you run a business from that computer, or do frequent banking and/or credit card purchases. In that case, you will want a premium, paid antivirus, and will have to live with the slower performance. They do provide marginally better protection than the free versions, without annoying popup ads, and they have much better customer support. The 2 paid antivirus programs I would suggest, that will have the least effect on performance, both in the top 5 of most independent rankings, are Kapersky and Bit Defender. Have a look here, https://www.trustedreviews.com/reviews/microsoft-defender-antivirus )

PO Box: In regard to BB4S not having PO boxes anymore, I have been using the Amazon Drop-box at El Ingenio which is open 7 days a week and is free. The only problem is with large boxes which it cannot contain. I too would be interested in an alternate site that could handle large boxes. Robert, Arenas.

COVID-19

Covid Spain: Spain has 86,222 cases and 224 deaths with COVID-19, while the incidence drops by more than 100 points to 2,564: {Translation, summary} Feb 2nd, 2022
-The autonomous communities have notified the Ministry of Health of 86,222 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday. These figures are lower than on the same day last week, when 133,553 positive cases were reported, which is evidence of the downward trend in the evolution of the pandemic.
– The cumulative incidence in the last 14 days per 100,000 inhabitants stands at 2,564.27, compared to 2,694.44 yesterday.
-In Wednesday’s report, 224 new deaths have been added, compared to 215 last Wednesday. In the last week, 799 people have died with a confirmed positive test in Spain.
-Currently, there are 17,441 COVID-19 positive patients hospitalised in Spain (18,087 yesterday) and 2,010 in ICU (2,054 yesterday). In the last 24 hours, there have been 1,830 admissions (1,874 yesterday) and 2,397 discharges (2,524 yesterday). The occupancy rate for coronavirus occupied beds stands at 13.96 per cent (14.52 per cent yesterday) and in ICUs at 21.34 per cent (21.71 per cent yesterday).
-Between 23 and 29 January, the autonomous communities carried out 1,741,241 diagnostic tests, of which 654,641 were PCR and 1,086,600 antigen tests, with an overall rate per 100,000 inhabitants of 3,702.70.
-Meanwhile, the positivity rate stands at 35.39 percent, compared to 35.83 percent yesterday. The World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends that this figure should be below 5 per cent to consider the spread of the virus as ‘controlled’. SPAIN

Outdoor masks remain mandatory in Spain following parliamentary vote- But opposition parties accuse the government of dirty tricks to keep the legislation in place:
-Masks outdoors will continue to be mandatory in Spain, following a vote held on Tuesday 1 February. The opposition however have accused the government of mocking parliamentary processes.
-In order to have the mask legislation remain in place, the government wrapped the vote on the issue into a package of votes on different issues including the revaluation of pensions. This effectively tied the hands of those who wanted to vote in favour of some legislation put before them but against mandatory masks. In the end there were 162 votes in favour, 153 against and 28 abstentions.
-“This is the last time that we accept blackmail of this type,” said EH Bildu deputy, Iñaki Ruiz de Pinedo.
-“It is a political practice that is not governed by honesty,” added PNV parliamentarian, Josune Gorospe.
-Other parties including PP, Vox, Ciudadanos, UPN and Foro Asturias said the executive’s tactics were a “mockery” of legislative power. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/spain/masks-outdoor-remain-20220202093729-nt.html

Spain RESTARTS coal plants as energy crisis batters Europe: (Sorry, this is a week old, but is only now doing the rounds. -Ed.)
-The Los Barrios thermal power plant, in the bay of Gibraltar, will be put to work once more after being closed three years ago. The coal power plant had a capacity of 567 Megawatts in 2014, and has been reactivated due to increased demand for energy over the winter.
-In Galicia, the closure process of the As Pontes coal power station was halted in November so it could begin burning coal again temporarily, in the face of higher energy prices and increased demand. Photo:CC

MALAGA

National Police move against clandestine caravan settlements in Vélez-Málaga: {Translation, summary}
-Agents of the National Police coordinate an action in order to prevent clandestine settlements of caravans that have proliferated recently in the town of Velez-Malaga. Eight plots of rural land have been inspected, whose managers were allegedly offering parking and recreational areas without the required authorisation for this commercial activity.
-Due to the good location of the land under control because of its proximity to the coast, clandestine settlements of caravans have multiplied in the Axarquia, turning these sites into a very profitable business with rentals of vehicles, bungalows and chambaos for weeks and even months at a time. However, according to the investigations, these sites do not meet the minimum conditions of habitability, especially in terms of sanitation, and pose a danger to visitors, due to alleged fraudulent connections to the electricity network.
-On the 25th of January, eight plots of land in Vélez-Málaga were inspected, which confirmed the lucrative activity that they were hosting outside of the law.
-Finally, as a result of the inspections, several reports, proposed sanctions were drawn up. In addition, the National Police have initiated an investigation that could lead to criminal charges for a possible offence of electricity fraud.
-In addition to the controlled plots, the operation has led to the location of eleven other sites that contravene municipal regulations, which have been brought to the attention of the competent authorities. Checks will continue to be carried out periodically to confirm that these specific sites comply with current legislation. Photo:PoliciaNacional. Second ‘Trojan Asteroid’ confirmed orbiting with Earth: A rocky body spotted orbiting in Earth’s path is a “Trojan asteroid” that escorts our planet around the sun, astronomers have confirmed.
-Asteroid 2020 XL5 is the second Trojan asteroid ever discovered. It’s three times larger than the only other known Earth Trojan, called Asteroid 2010 TK7, which was confirmed in 2011. These small space rocks orbit along with Earth, but they are hard to spot from our planet — Asteroid 2010 TK7 is sometimes on the other side of the sun from us. They sit in gravitational sweet spots known as Lagrangian points. If Earth and the sun make up two points of an equilateral triangle, the Lagrangian point would be that triangle’s third point. Earth and the sun have five of these points.
-The newfound Trojan is at a Lagrangian point that has it orbiting ahead of Earth in the two bodies’ shared path and the asteroid will stay there for 4,000 more years. Full article: https://www.livescience.com/2nd-trojan-asteroid-orbiting-earth

Service Wanted: Searching for an Apple Genius/expert. If it happened through an update from Apple or it was me that placed copies of my music library on different locations I don’t know for sure but what I DO know is that since a short period of time my Mac cannot find a lot of tracks in my Itunes library. Not only annoying but also rare since there is no logic in it for me. Sometimes it’s recently bought material (AAC) from Apple or other companies, and sometimes it’s older .mp3 files which were in the library for years which cannot be played. I am searching for a technical Apple /computer person that could safely put all files on one location (preferably all converted to .mp3) and save a copy of them all. Preferably at our house in Torrox campo. Thanks, Ron / Torrox

Halting Erosion using Vetiver:
From Vetiver Spain in Sayalonga
Our Nursery is open by appointment. Please email or call first. We have Moringa seedlings, Organic Moringa powder and Comfrey plants. We also have some local trees and some exotic trees from Africa.
Vetiver is a rapid growing and non-invasive sterile clump grass with a height of 1-2 metres and a root system of 3-4 metres in depth. We have been providing Vetiver throughout the EU for almost 10 years now. We are located in Sayalonga where we can plant year round but our best results by far start in February. The reason is that Vetiver is indigenous to India and Vetiver loves the heat of the summer. Use Vetiver cuttings as mulch around all of your fruit trees. Decomposing Vetiver improves soil quality, keeps the weeds down and the insects away all while helping to maintain soil moisture.
Vetiver is a nutritious and replenishable animal fodder. Horses and pigs love it. We use it in our chicken pens replacing hay because it stops mites.
In the 2 photos below you will see land prepared for Vetiver and the results 2 years later.
We also use Vetiver along driveways and sidewalks. It also makes a great and inexpensive ornamental hedge.
Here is a link to a short video showing the results.
https://youtu.be/rjTmb_LL2uo
We suggest planting now, as this is the BEST time of the year to plant.
To see more images of Vetiver go to this link.

Recommendations & Requests

Carole’s Book Nook: Here are some suggestions for this month, one modern fiction, one biography and one to make you laugh.
-The Sun Down Motel by Simone St James. This is a fascinating thriller, set in two different time periods. It also has the element of the supernatural. The Sun Down Motel is a run-down, haunted building where a girl disappeared and several years later her sister gets a job there hoping to unpick exactly what happened. The two stories running in parallel are not confusing as some “flashback” stories can be. This is something different, well written and hard to put down.
-A Bermondsey Boy by Tommy Steele. In general I avoid celebrity autobiographies for two reasons, one they are rarely written by the celebrity themselves, and the other is that they always descend into a snowfall of name dropping. This, one of the best I have ever read, does neither. Tommy Steele was once time famed as Britains’s first rock and roll star, but this book, very well written by Tommy himself, is more concerned with his happy childhood growing up in Bermondsey despite the war and the Blitz raging all around them. It proves that children, then, were more resourceful, were given greater responsibility and were generally happier for it. It only deals with his short pop career right at the end of the book. He did, of course go on to be a star of the musical theatre.
-Shave my Spider by Tony James Slater. I’ve read all of Tony’s travel books starting with “That Bear Ate My Pants” and I’ve enjoyed all of them but this is my favourite. This is travel as normal people know it, on a tight budget, experiencing bad hotels, food poisoning, language barriers and missed connections. Tony and his Australian wife Roo set out to “do” Asia visiting Cambodia, Vietnam, China etc. One of the most interesting countries was Mongolia. Tony always describes himself as a sort of dare devil crossed with an idiot which naturally leads to all kinds of funny adventures.

PO Box Service wanted: I need some advice please. I just learned that my PO Box Provider, BB4S in Algarrobo Costa, is going to discontinue their services on short notice. I have had a PO Box with the Spanish Correos before but they do not accept parcels e.g. from Amazon. So that would not be an alternative. Has anybody got an idea who offers PO Box services where letters and parcels can be sent to and who would then send me a short notice to pick up my mail? They should be in the area Arenas, Algarrobo, Caletta, Torre del Mar or Velez Malaga. I would be thankful for some ideas. Thanks, Christoph / Arenas

Covid Andalucia- Andalusia adds less than 5,000 Covid infections for the first time in a month and a half: {Translation} :01/02/2022 17:06
-Andalusia is still in the midst of the decline of the sixth wave of the pandemic. In fact, this Tuesday the region recorded 4,477 Covid positives, the lowest figure since 17 December, a month and a half ago. It is also the best Tuesday since the beginning of December.
-According to data from the Regional Ministry of Health and Families, Andalusia has also managed to break the floor of 1,000 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in its cumulative incidence. This has not happened since 25 December last year, more than a month ago. After one week, the evolution is also favourable and this Tuesday it stands at 350 points, 16 less than yesterday.
-In the health pressure there is a rise on Tuesday. This happens every Tuesday, when the weekend data is updated. Thus, the community adds 198 patients for Covid, a number that, although high, is the lowest for a Tuesday since more than a month ago, when the rise began due to the arrival of the omicron variant.the same logic applies in the case of the ICU. They are up (+10, to 250), but it is a more modest rise than last Tuesday, when they rose by 17.
-Where it is most evident that the sixth wave is in its downward phase is in the number of deaths. There are 53 on Monday, the highest figure since last Wednesday, when there were 64. It is more than half a hundred and, moreover, a rise in this value which is the last to fall when the wave begins its retreat. Once the number of ICUs has clearly dropped, it will be the turn of those who have died, something that may happen in the coming weeks. So far, the pandemic has left 12,180 dead in the community. Spain to Accept Only Negative Results of COVID-19 Antigen Tests Taken Within 24h, Instead of 48h:
-“As of today, February 1, and in line with Council Recommendation of January 25, 2022, …only negative results of antigen tests for SARS-CoV-2 infection obtained within 24 hours before arrival in Spain will be considered valid, and not 48 hours, as was the case until now,” the statement published by Spain’s government reads.
-At the same time, authorities in Spain have confirmed that the current rule according to which the PCR test results should not be older than 72 hours will continue to remain effective. “On the other hand, and as has been the case to date, certificates of diagnostic tests for an active COVID-19 infection with a negative result from molecular nucleic acid amplification tests (NAAT), whose sample has been obtained within 72 hours before arrival in Spain, will continue to be considered as valid,” the statement clarifies. One Step Closer To New Socialist Sponsored Housing & Rent Control Laws Passing- The Government ignores the CGPJ (General Council of the Judiciary) and approves the radical new housing law, could take effect in under 18 months- Minister says, it’s time “to leave speculation behind”, criticises the “rentiers who live off rents and the investment funds that own homes”: {Translation, full article} 01/02/2022 17:32
-The General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) has rejected the draft as an “expropriation of powers’ autonomy in this matter.
-The Government defies the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) and maintains the form of the new housing law despite criticism from the judges’ governing body. This Tuesday, the Council of Ministers approved the draft bill of the controversial regulation, which will allow the communities to control rental prices.
-The Minister of Transport, Raquel Sánchez, praised the law, which she described as “historic”. “It is rigorous, solid, compact, cross-cutting and protects the social function of housing”, said Sánchez, who also explained that the government will process the draft bill as a matter of urgency to speed up its entry into force.
-Sánchez sent a direct message to the CGPJ by reminding them that their report “should be limited to three specific articles” of the law, those that modify the law on civil proceedings to toughen up evictions. (The PM telling the court how to do it’s job protecting the public from gov’t over-reach? Just like with the EU Recovery Funds, this PM does whatever he likes, legal or not, with public/judicial support or not, and leaves others to sort out his mess.)
-With regard to the accusations of the judiciary, which accuses the law of not respecting the competences of the autonomous communities, Sánchez assured that the bill already “recognises the competences of the communities in the area of housing and their capacity to apply other instruments”.
***Regional legislation***
-Sánchez also explained that the government has made a series of technical modifications to the law to “clarify why we understand that the state has exclusive powers to regulate housing”. References to regional legislation” will also be included, and cooperation between regions will be strengthened. (Since when is it the job of the executive branch to write law? That is for the legislature to do, as the court pointed out. Another over-reach by Socialist Sanchez!)
-The Transport Minister has also acknowledged that she does not yet have the necessary support to push the law through Parliament, and has extended her hand to the rest of the political parties to pass the law. Likewise, she has opened the door to speeding up the implementation of limits on renting so that it is not necessary to wait 18 months after the approval of the law, as is currently stipulated.
-The Minister for Social Rights, Ione Belarra, was tougher in her speech, stating that the housing law is the first step “to leave speculation behind”. “In recent years, the real estate sector has been the law of the jungle”, explained Belarra, who also criticised the rentiers who live off rents and the investment funds that own homes.
-Moreover, Belarra pointed out that the Spanish public housing stock is seven times smaller than that of France and assured that this new regulation will reverse this proportion.
-Editor’s Note: The current Socialist gov’t is attempting to ram this thru before they face another election they are forecast to lose.

Court rejects the extension of the covid passport in the Basque Country and its extension to hotels as its effectiveness is not justified: {Translation} Feb 1st, 2022
-The High Court of Justice of the Basque Country (TSJPV) has rejected the extension of the covid passport requirement until 13 February in all hotels, events, gyms, and for visits to hospitals, residences or prisons in the Basque Country, as the Basque Government has not justified its effectiveness in preventing contagion. Consequently, it also rejects its application in hotels, tourist accommodation and gambling and betting parlours, as the Executive had intended.
-The Basque high court indicates that the Executive should have “justified the effectiveness and necessity of the measure, with a greater effort to provide reasons than the one it has made by presenting a request almost identical to the previous ones, which ignores the new circumstances that have been accredited”.
“Having failed to do so, it must be understood that the request for judicial authorisation to extend the measure does not pass the triple test of proportionality, necessity and, fundamentally, suitability, as it does not justify precisely the effectiveness of the measure, as of today, in preventing or appreciably reducing contagion. Consequently, the requested measure cannot be authorised”, he assures. COSTA DEL SOL

Recovery is slow for the Costa del Sol’s international tourism sector:
-However, rural houses and camping sites are doing better than ever thanks to the arrival of domestic tourists in Malaga province.
-2021 closed with 15.6 million overnight stays compared to almost 30 million in 2019, that amounts to 41 per cent less tourists and a 46 per cent fall in the number of nights booked.
-International tourism fell by 63 per cent in 2021 compared to 2019, or a loss over 13.3 overnight reservations.
-The number of Britons visiting the Costa del Sol dropped by 76 percent to 680,730 tourists in 2021, while the number of German tourists decreased by 55 per cent to just 353,000. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/malaga/recovery-slow-costa-20220201181352-nt.html

ANDALUCIA

Marín says that money from EU Covid Relief funds has not yet arrived in Andalusia, claims Spain’s central gov’t to blame: {Translation}
-The vice-president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juan Marín, said on Tuesday that “no money has yet arrived” from the EU funds for recovery in this community and warned that “not even in Brussels do they trust” the management that the government of Pedro Sánchez is making of them.
-In statements to Canal Sur Radio (CSR), picked up by Europa Press, Marín pointed out that there is nothing more “dangerous than managing uncertainty, and that is what is happening with the funds, that nobody trusts the central government, not even in Brussels”.
-He warned that the central government is changing “criteria from one day to the next” and sometimes there are not even criteria, but rather “arbitrariness”, and in this way “it is not possible to work”.
-He also pointed out that the problem is not how much money comes to this community, but “under what conditions and for what purpose”.
-According to Marín, the European Commission has distributed these funds among the member states with very clear criteria, but in Spain, the President, Pedro Sánchez, and his Finance Minister, María Jesús Montero, “distribute them as they please, with arbitrary criteria”. Experts may have finally discovered the cause of mystery dog illness on Yorkshire beaches: Owners have been urged to keep their dogs away from Yorkshire coastlines after reports claim a mystery illness that is ‘spreading like wildfire’ has struck down around 150 pets with vomiting and diarrhoea. But now one expert has revealed what could be causing the illness. David McCreadie, a former senior lecturer in marine biology and oceanography, said that he believes dredging could be to blame after spotting a vessel dredging off Teesmouth last September.
Some of the towns where the mystery illnesses has been reported include Scarborough, Whitby, Saltburn and Seaton Sluice on North Tyneside.

Whoopie Cushion Fail- Another Wacko Lefty Forced To Apologize- Whoopi Goldberg apologizes for saying Holocaust ‘isn’t about race’: In the original discussion, Goldberg said: “Let’s be truthful, the Holocaust isn’t about race, it’s not. It’s about man’s inhumanity to man, that’s what it’s about. These are two groups of white people.”
-StopAntisemitism.org said Goldberg’s comments had “minimised” the trauma and suffering caused by the atrocity. “Newsflash Whoopi Goldberg, 6 million of us were gassed, starved and massacred because we were deemed an inferior race by the Nazis,” the organisation wrote. “How dare you minimize our trauma and suffering!”
-In a statement posted on Twitter, Goldberg said: “On today’s show I said the Holocaust ‘is not about race, but about man’s inhumanity to man’. I should have said it is about both. “As Jonathan Greenblatt from of the Anti-Defamation League shared, ‘The Holocaust was about the Nazi’s systematic annihilation of the Jewish people, who they deemed to be an inferior race’. I stand corrected. “Written with my sincerest apologies. Canada Covid Protest Update: Politicians at all levels of government are urging protesters who have seized the nation’s capital to roll out, as organizers prepare to stick around even longer by distributing fuel and supplies to the trucks clogging up Ottawa streets.
-The blockade had appeared smaller on Tuesday than it had been over the weekend, but The Canadian Press previously reported that vehicle headlights were as far as the eye could see, despite the -20 degree Celsius weather.
-But Ottawa remains at a standstill, as trucks and big rigs remain along major roads in the downtown core and many businesses have remained closed since Friday over safety concerns.
-Those that remain say they are staying put until all the restrictions are lifted, with the president of the Ottawa Gatineau Hotel Association saying some protesters have been extending their stays at hotels, or are asking to rebook for the coming weekend.
-Canada’s Quebec province announced Tuesday it was scrapping plans for a health tax on those who are not vaccinated against Covid-19, following a public backlash over the proposal.

COVID-19

Covid Andalucia- Andalusia drops 95 Covid hospitalisations and records lowest number of infections since before Christmas:
{Translation} :31/01/2022 12:44
-The decline of the sixth wave of Covid in Andalusia is accelerating. This is attested by the fall in the values that first notice the changes in trends in the pandemic, such as infections, incidence and hospitalised patients.
-According to the latest data from the Regional Ministry of Health and Families, Andalusia has recorded 5,637 positive results in Covid on Monday. This is the lowest figure since 21 December, when the arrival of omicron in Andalusia triggered this variable. Moreover, although the figure is still high, it is the best Monday since the beginning of December.
-In line with this drop, the incidence also fell, which is already approaching the floor of one thousand cases per hundred thousand inhabitants in 14 days. Thus, this Monday the figure stands at 1,041 points. The one week incidence number is also good at 386 points, some 40 points less than on Saturday.
-There is also good news in hospitalised patients. Thanks to the drop in the number of infections, the fall in the number of those hospitalised on Monday is already noticeable, to 2,092; 95 less than on Saturday. This figure is the biggest drop in Andalusia since 7 March, almost a year ago.
-And, following the script of the pandemic, the next figure to fall must be those hospitalised in the ICU. For now it is not happening, but if the wave follows the current trend, it should not take long to reach. In any case, this Monday there are 238 people in intensive care in Andalusia, ten more than on Saturday.
-Regarding deaths, that is still at high levels. Health reports 16 deaths due to Covid on Monday. Source, Spanish: https://sevilla.abc.es/andalucia/sevi-andalucia-baja-95-hospitalizados-covid-y-anota-menor-numero-contagios-desde-antes-navidad-202201311244_noticia.html

Spanish police warn of “virtual kidnapping” phone scam– what to do if it happens to you: This method of scamming is known as “virtual kidnapping”, where the victim is made to believe that one of their loved ones has been kidnapped. As the National Police have indicated, the criminal will call by telephone and will claim to have kidnapped one of your family members. It is not a real kidnapper. It is a thief who is trying to extort you for quick money.
The police advise that you do not panic, but remain calm and do not trust the caller. What you should do is hang up, get in touch with the family member to make sure that they are safe and call 091 to report the incident. Which pensioners can request 525 euros of rental assistance: It is possible for those who receive these pensions, either retirement or disability, to also request help to pay the rent, the amount of which is 525 euros per year. To do so, there are a series of requirements.
The first thing is to have a non-contributory retirement or disability pension approved; another is not owning a home and thus being the owner of the lease and not having a marital or family relationship until the third degree. Finally, it is also required that the rented home be the habitual residence (the one in which one resides for a minimum of 180 days). In the event that the dwelling is shared by several people, only the owner of the contract, or the one who first appears in it, can request it. Brussels denies having congratulated Spain’s PM Sánchez for the distribution of European funds, PP Party decries Sánchez propaganda:
-The European Commission has been surprised by the propaganda use made by the Spanish Government of a “courtesy” letter that the president Ursula von der Leyen had sent to Pedro Sánchez, in which she congratulated him on the speed in processing the applications for the recovery funds. The spokesmen for the community executive have had to clarify that “there is no link between this letter and the current debate in Spain on the distribution of Recovery funds between the autonomous communities and the central government.”
-The first notice of this deceptive event by the Commission has been that the subject appeared among the questions of the daily appearance of the main spokespersons of the Commission and they had to admit that they were unaware of the existence of this letter to Pedro Sánchez, while in Madrid, members of the Government were using it publicly as a dialectical weapon against the People’s Party.
{Translation} Opposition party PP commented on the PP demanding more transparency by the ruling party regarding the distribution of EU Covid Recovery Funds. When asked specifically what he thought of the European Commission’s congratulations after the PP had spent weeks “sticking its finger in the sore spot” with the funds, Casado replied: “We don’t stick our finger in the Government’s sore spot. The government puts its finger and its hand in the pocket of the Spanish people.
“…the fact is that Spain is the last country in the developed world to recover, it leads the EU in unemployment, inflation, deficit and debt. And it is going to be the country that raises taxes the most”, said Casado, who believes that “the rest is propaganda” from Pedro Sánchez.
-That said, the president of the PP – who visited the Don Ibérico sausage factory and dryer in Guijuelo (Salamanca) – pointed out that in 2023 “when the Government’s counter-reforms are evaluated, the European Commission will probably say that they have been deceived”.

Spanish Extended Visa Option- Spain to Create Digital Nomad Visa:
Authorities in Spain will unfold their plans for the digital nomad visa during the following months in an effort to attract internationals who can temporarily live in Spain while working for companies or clients outside the country. The digital nomad visa program will permit internationals to live in Spain while working remotely for companies located outside the country without needing a full work visa. Such a visa is expected to permit people to spend between six and 12 months living and working in Spain without the right to residency. In addition, applicants who meet the requirements are eligible to extend their visas for a specific period.
(Thus, it appears if you want one of these visas, all you need to do is start your own small website based business in your home country. This can be done by making a basic website and registering the new domain; the cost is about €100/yr for the domain. Then you register the business with your home country (fees vary). Now apply for the visa. Then you can spend most of the year in Spain legally, assuming this passes a vote in the Spring. A very affordable alternative indeed, but it is likely you will need to provide proof of health insurance. -Ed.)
