I’ve had complaints from readers who are having their post replies returned for incorrect email addresses. Every time, it is one of these bizarrely coded email address causing the problem.
-It confuses some readers and will prevent you getting replies.
-It will not prevent spammer email harvesting. Today’s Artificial Intelligence powered email harvesters are not fooled by these simple spelling tricks.
-If you get spam email, it is far more likely your email address was taken from your own email account provider or What’s App or Fakebook. These all get hacked regularly, and their employees often get caught selling email lists to bolster their incomes. Also, any free on-line service you use that has your email address very likely sells it; read the User Agreement fine print and you will often discover they admit “we may share your email with our partners”, that is the price of using the “free” service.
-These days it is SOP (standard operating proceedure) to make a second email account to use for public posting and receiving emails from strangers, seperate from their private account used for business and personal contacts.

DoctorLaptop’s Tips #83 – Good News For Windows 10 “S” Version Users: Many budget priced computers were sold loaded with Windows 10S, rather than Windows 10 Home/Pro/Ultimate. This “10S” version of Windows 10 has several severe limitations and has gained a poor reputation among users. Users found they had saved a few euros, but lost features they had taken for granted in previous versions of Windows.
-You can only get new software from the Microsoft Store so many programs are unavailable. Thus no Firefox or Google Chrome browser, for example, can be installed.
-You can only set Edge as your default browser and Bing as your default search engine.
-Certain peripherals, such as printers and keyboards, might not work with S Mode.
Now the good news. So many people complained about the “S” version that Microsoft has offered a free upgrade to a full featured version of Windows 10, either Windows 10 Pro or Windows 10 Home. This removes all the restrictions listed above.
Take note that switching out of S Mode is a one-way process. Once you’ve switched out, there’s no going back. You can, however, start enjoying third-party apps that are not in the Microsoft Store, and you can connect devices that Win “S” refused to cooperate with.
How to check if you are using Windows 10 “S”:
-Open the Start Menu. This is the button in the lower-left corner of your screen shaped like the Windows logo.
-Then click Settings. This is the button with the gear icon just above the Start button.
-In the Settings window, click System.
-Then click About in the left sidebar.
-You will find what mode of Windows you have under the Windows Specification section. You may need to scroll down to see this section.
How to upgrade to a “full” feature version of Windows for free?
-All your data and installed software should remain intact.
-Always backup your valuable data before making major System changes.
-Before you begin it is highly recommended you do a Full Windows Security Scan, as malware may interfere with the upgrade, and a failed upgrade can break your computer. Click on the Windows Security icon in the taskbar notification area. Click on Virus & Threat Protection. Click on Scan options. Click on Full scan. Click on Scan now.
-Run and rerun Windows Updates until it show that you are fully up to date.
-Go to Settings.
-Then select Update & Security.
-In the left sidebar, click Activation.
-Then click “Go to the Store.” You will see this under the “Switch to Windows 10 Home / Pro” section.
-Press the “Get” button under the “Switch out of S Mode” section and wait for the process to complete.
-Restart computer.
-Go back and recheck your Windows version to confirm the upgrade was successful.
If it was successful you may now install 3rd party apps and use whatever browser or search you prefer, and that external device that refused to work should now be usable.
If you need help doing this upgrade, bring the computer to DoctorLaptop for your annual Full Maintenence Service (€60) as this upgrade is included in the price. Located in Torrox Costa near the bus station.

Demand creates delays of several days in the appointments and the telephone service, while the staff is overwhelmed by the tracking of outbreaks. The district most affected is the Metropolitan of Granada, where the delay amounts to seven days. There are problems also in Malaga North and the Costa del Sol and in Almeria North, where the query can take two to three days, according to Health. In all these districts telephone service can take from seven to ten days. Novak Djokovic disqualified from U.S. Open after hitting line judge with ball: No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic was defaulted from his fourth-round match at the U.S. Open on Sunday after accidentally hitting a line judge in the neck with a tennis ball.
After losing a game to his opponent, Pablo Carreno Busta, to fall behind 6-5 in the first set, Djokovic smacked a ball behind him as he walked to the sideline for the changeover. The ball struck a line judge, who fell to her knees at the back of the court and reached for her neck.
It appeared that Djokovic didn’t intend to hit the line judge, as he was looking in a different direction when his racket connected with the ball.
But players who hit a ball out of anger and make contact with officials have been disqualified in previous years. On-court officials discussed the incident for several minutes before chair umpire Aurelie Tourte announced the disqualification. ‘Flying’ electric speedboat debuts on Switzerland’s lakes: The world’s first electric-powered hydrofoil speedboat, which reduces energy consumption and noise – as well as sea sickness – by “flying” above the waves, has made its debut on Switzerland’s lakes.
The Candela Seven can hit speeds of 55 km per hour when its foils lift it out of the water. Its manufacturers say it travels further and smoother than other electric boats.
The foils reduce water friction – and the effect of waves slamming into the boat – cutting energy consumption by 80% compared to normal diesel-powered boats and extending the craft’s range to 90 km (56 miles).

David Blaine flies above 7,500 meters with handful of helium balloons: Illusionist David Blaine flew Wednesday over the desert of Arizona at a height of more than 7,500 meters, holding on to a handful of 52 colored balloons inflated with helium.
Blaine, known for his risky acts and stunts on the street, exceeded his own expectations by flying above the 5,400 meters he set for himself when taking off and skimming a height of more than 7,500 meters that required him to wear an oxygen mask.

A Dutch Solution To The Squatter Problem- Anti-Krakers: This is greatly simplified, but still makes the point. In the Netherlands, up until the middle of the last decade, squatting was a legal process. It was an economic policy tool adopted to prevent speculators from keeping properties empty in hopes of finding a renter willing to pay a higher than market rent during a housing shortage, when average working people and students were having trouble finding affordable housing. If a property was unoccupied for a year, in some circumstances, it could be legally squatted. This encourages landlords to keep the properties rented at market values.
In order to combat the wave of legal squatters, some property management companies employeed crews of Anti-squatters (“antikrak” in Dutch). These crews were typically 2 to 4 persons that specialized in a mobile lifestyle, that would live in unoccupied properties, bouncing around from property to property as they were needed, a month in one place, 6 months in another. These were typically university students and new arrivals with a work contract but nowhere to live. In return for keeping your property “occupied” and therefore immune from squatters, the anti-squatters pay no rent, and often receive a modest per diem.
May be a solution for some, a possible job for others.

Spain’s Ministry of Health states Andalucia has exceeded 1,000 infections in a day: Andalucia has exceeded, for the first time, more than 1,000 infected by coronavirus in one day. Spanish Gov’t Turmoil As PP and Casado reject the “political truce”: The leader of the main opposition Popular Party (PP), Pablo Casado, spent two hours in talks on Wednesday with Socialist Party (PSOE) Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, only to announce afterwards that his group would not lend the support needed in order to make new appointments in key institutions such as the Constitutional Court and the CGPJ legal watchdog. Casado said that the PP would not provide the votes needed for such changes while the PSOE continued to govern in a coalition with junior partner Unidas Podemos, the leftist bloc headed by Pablo Iglesias and made up of his Podemos party and the United Left (IU).
In response, the Sánchez government has accused Casado of refusing to recognize the legitimacy of the coalition government. With his actions, Casado is also rejecting the “political truce” that the leader of the center-right Ciudadanos party, Inés Arrimadas, called for on Wednesday after having met with Sánchez. “We will all be judged for our actions during the pandemic.” Casado is arguing that he is putting the brakes on the appointments in order to defend the constitutional structure of Spain. Covid-19 tracing tool to be built into phones: Future versions of Android and iOS operating systems are set to have a Covid-19 notification system built-in, Apple and Google have announced.
The system will replace the need for users to install contact-tracing apps developed by public health bodies.
The system, dubbed exposure notification express, would still require a user to opt-in and does not collect location or identity information. (And if you believe that I’ve got some beach-front property in Madrid you may like to buy. -Ed.)
Previously Apple and Google’s API required users to download a contact-tracing app to allow it to track time and distance between device and send push notifications to users who may have been exposed to the virus.
Under the new system no app is required, meaning public health authorities would be able to send notifications to those considered at risk of Covid-19 without needing to develop and maintain an app.

Cosmic Legos- Black holes merge into never before seen size: Black holes are getting stranger, even to astronomers. They’ve now detected the signal from a long ago violent collision of two black holes that created a new one of a size that had never been seen before.

Charity golf cancelled: Due to the ongoing restrictions caused by the pandemic, the ACE (Animal Care España) Charity in La Cala de Mijas has had to cancel the Golf Tournament and Lunch which was scheduled to take place at Miraflores Golf on Sunday September 13.

Hi-definition photos?: Maybe some useful information for fellow Digamites. Yesterday I posted items for sale with photos and had a reprimand from Naythan.
“Hi, 2 of these pics are way over the file size limit of 4Mb. Please do not send in super hi-definition photos, use standard quality photos. Naythan”
So I apologised and responded:
“The one photo was taken with my old iPhone in December last year. The other 2 I took with my new iPhone SE. I can only assume the camera is different as I have not had that problem before.”
He explained and told me what to do. “The new phone is evidently taking pics in Hi-def by default. Go into the new phone Camera Settings and change the resolution (sometimes called quality) to a lower setting. New phones can take higher quality pics than older cameras. But these hi-quality (hi-definition) pics are much larger in file size, and are pointless on websites, as websites have Standard Quality photo display. Hi-def pics are for high quality printing, or viewing on the new 4K HD televisions.” Naythan

Salamanca and Valladolid return to Phase 1: From 00:00 this Wednesday new restrictions in the cities of Valladolid and Salamanca due to the lack of control of the contagion of coronavirus, “Practically the same measures as phase 1” of the de-escalation.
The incidence of cases per 10,000 inhabitants is in Valladolid at 19.1 and in Salamanca at 17.3, figures very different from those of other provincial capitals, such as Palencia, with 7.6, or Segovia, with 10.91.
“It is essential throughout the territory, but especially in Valladolid and Salamanca, that citizens know that strict compliance with all these measures will be required, which will not have an effect in the next ten days because, surely, they will continue increasing contagions, hospital admissions and ICUs and deaths ”, said the vice president of the Board, Francisco Igea. Spanish Health minister rules out another nationwide lockdown: Salvador Illa said that despite rising case numbers, the current situation is very different to that of March. “More than half of the cases are asymptomatic, the average age is much lower, hospital pressure is low and the number of deaths is very different…”, “…nothing suggests that we will go back to the same situation we had in March,” he said.

Whistleblower describes how workers were forced to make claims for the Spanish Minimum Living Income ‘Non Compliant’: An investigation is reportedly underway and the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office is already aware of what happened in what could amount to one of Spain’s largest scandals.

Local Info Wanted: Can you tell us how it is?
Hello Digamites, after many cancellations and frustrating attempts to return to Torrox during the past months we are now looking forward to finally spending some time in our little beloved village house in Torrox Pueblo. We can’t wait to be back, but are a little apprehensive about how life in the village and the surrounding area might have changed. We would love to hear some news from people who have been there all these months, and also maybe from those who are equally frustrated by the travel restrictions and complications caused by the covid pandemic. Here are a few questions we have for starters: Apart from having to wear masks in public places etc,, has village life changed a lot? Are the cafes and taperias around Torrox and on the Plaza open and lively? Is the Blue Bus still going regularly down to Costa and El Morche, and is it easy to find a place on it? Can one still just go on and pay with a 1 Euro coin? Is it difficult to go to the beach in Costa, with regards to queues, masks, showres, regulations – and jellyfish? What is the situation with (dangerous?) mosquitoes this time of year in Pueblo, any good tips to deal with them in the house? We don’t have air conditioning except to leave all windows and doors open in the evening, and did not really have any problems in the past. Experts are predicting an increase in coronavirus fatalities in Spain three weeks after infections began to spike:
Data offered by the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control – which is based on the information sent by the Health Ministry – show that mortality in Spain has doubled in less than two weeks, going from 0.4 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants to 0.8. The information from the regions confirms this trend.
“Mortality is the last thing that rises,” explains Francisco Javier Falo, the general director of public health in Aragón, the region that has seen the highest infection rates this summer. “First the infections go up, then between 10 and 15 days later the hospitalizations rise, and then toward the third week, mortality rises. Asteroid the size of a building will shoot past Earth today: An asteroid is set to zoom past Earth today and it will come at a distance much closer than the Moon! According to the NASA, the asteroid named 2011 ES4, with diameters between 22 and 49 metres. Supersol name set to disappear as Carrefour buys up familiar chain:
On Thursday, it was announced that the stores, currently owned by Lithuanians, were being sold to Carrefour for 78 million euros.
The French retail giant plans to roll out its Carrefour Express or Market brands instead of Supersol, as well as its separate Supeco low-cost stores, after the sale of 172 stores is completed at the start of 2021.

Spain’s basic income scheme hits backlog dead-end: Of the 750,000 applications which were filed since June 15 when the government started accepting requests, 143,000 – or 19 percent – have been analysed and only 80,000 were approved, according to a social security statement issued on August 20. On closer inspection it turns out the social security ministry has really only analysed 6,000 applications while 74,000 households that already receive financial aid were awarded the basic income automatically.
For hundreds of thousands of other households, the wait is stressful.
Adding to the confusion, about 500 temporary workers have been recruited as reinforcements but their assistance is limited because they do not have the status of civil servant, so they cannot officially approve requests for financial aid. Spanish government, regions agree that children over age of six will have to wear masks in schools: Under the plans drawn up by the Health Ministry, education centers will only close if coronavirus transmission becomes uncontrolled, with quarantines for ‘bubble’ groups if cases are detected in students or staff.

Andalucía ‘ready’ to lock down local districts if coronavirus tracing fails: The Andalusian Health minister, Jesús Aguirre, said on Thursday that the authority was “very worried” about the increase in the Covid-19 infection rate in the region.
Positive PCR test results have “doubled” in the last two weeks, he said, revealing that the authority is prepared to lock down specific zones or districts to contain the spread of the virus. This would be done when the origin of new cases cannot be traced, when it is considered that there is “community transmission” and when the positive tests are “out of control”.

Holiday homes rented for private parties without masks or social distancing are causing problems on the coast: Local Police of Torremolinos shut down last Friday, August 21, a ‘private party.’
The party was held in a holiday rental apartment, in which around 100 people attended. The events took place in the Bajondillo area, and as can be seen in the videos that have circulated on social networks, the people who attended the event did not wear a mask or maintain social distance.
At the same time, the congregation of young people next to a beach club in the same area was also reported on social-networks. The scenes captured by beach-goers have outraged both residents and tourists, who claim to have witnessed a meeting with more than 200 people without respecting the measures imposed. Political Parties and the Spanish Gov’t Battle Over Responsibilities During Pandemic: Despite opposition calls, Spanish government leaves coronavirus crisis in hands of the regions. The Popular Party in Madrid wants the Socialist Party-Unidas Podemos administration to take charge of issues such as the reopening of schools, but the administration points out that the group demanded its powers be returned under the state of alarm.
“The Spanish government is responsible for the pandemic, independently of the powers set out by the state of regions,” declared Ana Pastor, the Popular Party’s vice-secretary for social policy.
The Spanish government has also put on hold legal reforms that it promised weeks ago for a new legal mechanism that would allow for it to implement measures aimed at controlling the coronavirus without having to impose another state of alarm. Sources from the government have indicated that these reforms have no support in Congress, and that the most efficient approach is to agree such decisions with regional chiefs, as was done regarding the nightlife restrictions and as is likely to be done with the reopening of schools.

Andalusia’s regional government ignored reports warning of West Nile virus risks for years: Scientists from a research institute recommended ways to curb outbreaks, the most recent of which has claimed two victims, but their calls fell on deaf ears. Neither the junta, as the regional government is known, nor the Seville provincial authority nor the local councils in the areas bordering the Guadalquivir River have taken any actions that would have minimized the current outbreak, which is the most serious seen in Spain until now.

Family hunt for missing corpse of local sand sculptor in Torrox: Jose Perez, 35 years old, was found dead on June 3 in a garden in Torrox-Costa. Or so it appears in the reports of the Local Police of Torrox.
The Guardia Civil was in charge of the removal of the corpse and, supposedly, a post-mortem was carried out to determine the causes of death.
What is surprising about the case is that, despite being an identified person, no official institution gave notice to his relatives, or at least, this is what they claim.
“Since then we are calling the Local Police of Ceuta and the Guardia Civil, who confirm the event, but give us different versions of what happened and what is worse, that no one can tell us exactly where the body is”, says Lidia, the deceased’s cousin.
