Happy St Patrick’s Day: This year, St. Patrick’s Day falls on Wednesday, March 17, 2021.
St. Patrick’s Day celebrates the life of Saint Patrick- the patron saint of Ireland. This influential missionary has been credited with bringing Christianity to Ireland. St. Patrick’s Day takes place on March 17 each year because St. Patrick’s death is believed to have been on March 17, 461. The Church began observing a special feast to honor him on this day starting in 1631.
*15 St. Patrick’s Day Facts*
1. St. Patrick’s Day always falls on the 17th of March.
2. The first St. Patrick’s Day parade took place in America- not in Ireland.
3. The New York City St. Patrick’s Day parade is the world’s oldest civilian parade and the largest in the United States.
4. Chicago began its annual tradition of turning the Chicago River green on St. Patrick’s Day in 1962.
5. In Ireland, St. Patrick’s Day had been viewed mostly as a religious observance, and up until the 1960s, they even had laws that forbid bars from being open that day.
6. It wasn’t until 1798 (the year of the Irish Rebellion) that the color green became officially associated with St. Patrick’s Day. Before then, another color was originally associated with St. Patrick.
7. St. Patrick’s Day switched over from a strictly holy day for Catholics to an official Irish public holiday in 1903.
8. Although St. Patrick’s Day falls within the period of Lent- a time when the Catholic Church prohibits eating meat, the ban is lifted on this specific day of celebration.
9. The annual shamrock ceremony in the White House started in 1952.
10. Each year, 5.5 million people visit New York’s St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
11. Before St. Patrick became a missionary, he had been kidnapped at the age of 16 and taken to Ireland as a slave.
12. St. Patrick is said to have been buried in the town of Downpatrick, County Down, in Northern Ireland.
13. There are two autobiographical writings from St. Patrick himself, including Confessio and Letter to Coroticus.
14. Traditionally, Catholic families go to church in the morning on St. Patrick’s Day, and partake in a meal that includes cabbage and Irish bacon.

Halting Erosion using Vetiver
From Vetiver Spain in Sayalonga
Our Nursery is open by appointment depending on the current travel restrictions. Please email or call first. We have Moringa seedlings, Organic Moringa powder and Comfrey plants. We also have some local trees and some exotic trees from Africa.
Vetiver is a rapid growing and non-invasive sterile clump grass with a height of 1-2 metres and a root system of 3-4 metres in depth. We have been providing Vetiver throughout the EU for almost 10 years now. We are located in Sayalonga where we can plant year round but our best results by far start in February. The reason is that Vetiver is indigenous to India and Vetiver loves the heat of the summer. Use Vetiver cuttings as mulch around all of your fruit trees. Decomposing Vetiver improves soil quality, keeps the weeds down and the insects away all while helping to maintain soil moisture.
Vetiver is a nutritious and replenishable animal fodder. Horses and pigs love it. We use it in our chicken pens replacing hay because it stops mites.
In the 2 photos below you will see land prepared for Vetiver and the results 2 years later.
We also use Vetiver along driveways and sidewalks. It also makes a great and inexpensive ornamental hedge.
Here is a link to a short video showing the results.
https://youtu.be/rjTmb_LL2uo
We suggest planting now, as this is the BEST time of the year to plant.
To see more images of Vetiver go to this link.

The SEPE warns of a scam- they impersonate Social Security to steal your data: {Translated from sevilla.abc.es}
-This warning comes days after the ‘hack’ to the computer system and the public body’s website suffered. The State Public Employment Service (SEPE) warns of a new cyber scam in which emails attempt to impersonate the identity of the Social Security to obtain user data and install malicious software on their terminals.
-“Remember: Before opening any email, check that it is really us,” the public body says in its communication on Twitter. In addition, the SEPE indicates that users should pay close attention to the email address: “If it does not end in ‘@sepe.es’, do not open it”.
-This comes after many users have reported receiving an email with the Social Security logo, from strange senders, claiming unpaid debts.
-This is a type of phishing already detected in the past but which has returned to the fray just after the hacking of the SEPE’s computers and website.
-The email contains a link under the heading ‘download report’ that leads to the installation of a malicious programme or ‘malware’ on your electronic device with the aim of stealing sensitive data.
-Cyber-fraud experts recommend that you immediately delete this message, which is used by criminals to impersonate a company, in this case the Social Security, in an attempt to obtain data such as your bank account details.
*Attention to detail*
-To detect this type of electronic scams, you should pay attention to details and not act impulsively by clicking on the links.
-In this type of communication there are usually some clues that invite you to suspect the veracity of the same: the sender’s address, unusual links, links that have been shortened and that have a different domain to the company.
-In addition, it is also common for these messages to contain spelling mistakes, a few words in another language and poorly written messages, something that is not common in messages from public bodies.
(In many browsers, if you hover the cursor over a link, without clicking, the destination address will appear in the lower left of the window in the Status Bar. Look and see if you recognize the location, if it is not related to the supposed sender then it is a spam link. For example, if the suspect email is supposedly from Outlook, but a link leads to a Yahoo address. -Ed.)

France studies a new variant of coronavirus discovered in Brittany that is not detected with PCR: {Summary, translated from sevilla.abc.es}
-France studying a new variant of coronavirus detected in Britain. The most striking thing is that, according to the French newspaper ‘Le Parisien’ , the new variant cannot be detected through PCR .
-The first analyzes of this new variant do not allow to conclude “neither a greater severity nor a greater transmissibility compared to those known so far.” The DGS announced that “in-depth research is being carried out in order to better understand this variant and its impact.”
-Its peculiarity would be the difficulty to detect it. The DGS says that people infected with this strain “had typical symptoms suggesting a SARS-CoV-2 infection, but a negative result of the PCR test in nasopharyngeal samples. The diagnosis could be made by serology or by RT-PCR in deep respiratory samples ”. (Redundant info deleted.) Which self-employed workers and SMEs can apply for direct aid from their autonomous community: The central Executive approved last Friday, March 12, in an Extraordinary Council of Ministers of the Royal Decree-Law 5/2021 a new package of public aid amounting to 11 billion euros for the sectors most affected by the coronavirus pandemic in our country, that is, those of the hospitality, tourism and trade. Teams and other Microsoft services drop worldwide, Spain included: {Translated from eldiario.es}
-The Teams video conferencing platform and other services from the software giant Microsoft such as 365, Azure and Dynamics 365 are experiencing interruptions around the world, the company itself reported on Monday. “Users may not be able to access multiple Microsoft services. We have identified the cause of the problem and are taking steps to mitigate the impact. This problem could affect any user,” the company said in a statement.
-The problem would have occurred after an update to the authentication system, which is why it is being uninstalled by the company itself, the firm said on its corporate Twitter account.
-The service interruptions began around 9:00 p.m. in Spain and, according to the specialized portal DownDetector.com, they reached their peak an hour later, at 00:00 this Monday, when more than 31,000 users warned that they were having problems.
-Since then, the interruptions of the service are going down and every time they affect fewer users, although there may still be errors and Spanish users are reporting them on social networks. Rain and snow possible as Malaga province braces for a cold snap this weekend: According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), it is very likely that continental air originating from Siberia will arrive in the province over the weekend, bringing with it freezing temperatures and rain. What is more striking is that snow is possible even at altitudes of just 300-400 metres, meaning Ronda, Antequera, Sierra de las Nieves and areas closer to the sea could all see snowfall. Until Friday, temperatures are expected to stay quite stable, with highs of 19C, lows of 11C and little chance of rain. The forecast then shifts drastically on Saturday and Aemet is predicting highs of just 14C in Malaga city and 7C in Ronda and Antequera. Andalusia halts AstraZeneca’s vaccination of 123,210 doses after Health Ministry decision: {Translated from sevilla.abc.es}
Updated 15/03/2021 23:38
-The Ministry of Health and Families of the Andalusian Regional Government has paralysed the AstraZeneca vaccination after the decision taken this Monday afternoon by the Ministry of Health to suspend the administration of these vaccines for two weeks pending the report issued by the Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee (PRAC) on the suitability of continuing their inoculation. Thus, Andalusia will not administer the 123,210 AstraZeneca doses that remained to be inoculated and has proceeded to cancel as of this afternoon the appointments that were already closed. Of these doses, 40,500 had arrived today at the reception centre and had not yet been distributed, while 82,710 doses have been located and stopped at various vaccination points.
ABV Lot 5300
-As of today, a total of 211,600 AstraZeneca doses have been administered in Andalusia, of which 46,030 correspond to the ABV 5300 batch, and so far no serious adverse reaction alert has been identified in the Andalusian Pharmacovigilance Network linked to these doses. The Andalusian Regional Government decided last Friday to stop administering the remaining 1,200 doses of this batch as a precautionary measure.
-The Regional Minister for Health and Families, Jesús Aguirre, was informed of this decision at the extraordinary Interterritorial Committee held this afternoon and expressed his “total confidence” in the decision taken in this regard by the Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee (PRAC), while trusting that “this situation will be reversed as soon as possible”.
-People who have already received the first dose of AztraZeneca’s vaccine do not have to follow any specific protocol a priori, nor is active surveillance necessary.
-On the other hand, the Junta de Andalucía will continue as normal during the next few days the current vaccination protocol with the administration of Pfizer and Moderna to the corresponding groups.

Andalusia warns of Government cuts in the next shipments of vaccines against Covid: {Translated from sevilla.abc.es}
Updated: 15/03/2021 21:02
-The Minister of Health and Families, Jesús Aguirre, has asked the Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, by letter this Monday for explanations for the decrease in the arrival of vaccines to 15.5% of the national total, when “the Andalusian population is at 18%”, because “we do not know the criteria that the Ministry is using”.
-Last week 175,430 vaccines arrived in Andalusia and this week 157,000, which means “about 20,000 fewer vaccines, an issue that worries us”, adding that among those immunised “we are at 4.12%, that is to say, both vaccines have been given”.
-Aguirre indicated that for the last week they have had the figures for the possible arrival of vaccines, especially from Pfizer, for March and April, while he explained that today he has sent a letter to the Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, signed by him, because “we have noticed in the last two weeks that in Andalusia we were receiving the number of vaccines according to population and we have noticed a drop proportional to that which we have had lately in the number of vaccines”.
-“We had already noticed this in the last two weeks, but when we received the list from Pfizer in April we saw that we had dropped to 15.5% when the Andalusian population is at 18%,” lamented the Minister of Health, who added that he “does not know what criteria the Ministry is using” and that it “has not told them anything”. “We don’t know why this drop in Andalusia’s share of vaccines is being made,” he said.
-He added that “it is very important because the vaccine is a scarce commodity and we are fighting as hard as we can to ensure that as many vaccines as possible come to the region”, while indicating that “in this new distribution, Asturias, the Basque Country, Galicia, Catalonia and Valencia have benefited”. Meanwhile, “we have lost a percentage of vaccines in proportion to those that were arriving until now, Andalusia, Murcia and Navarre, and hence the letter to the minister,” he added.
-“We ask for maximum transparency in the distribution of vaccines and that it be done according to population data, as has been done so far, and we do not understand why such a significant drop in the percentage of vaccines in some autonomous communities and increases without us having debated it within the relevant bodies,” Aguirre insisted.

Covid-19 vaccines for UK nationals in Spain – what the British Embassy says: An Embassy spokesperson said: “The Spanish Government’s Vaccination Strategy is clear that, as a matter of public health, all people living in Spain are eligible for the vaccine, regardless of nationality or residency status. At the current time, those in the priority groups are being vaccinated – irrespective of nationality or type of sickness insurance. The Vaccination Strategy is updated regularly to include new priority groups as the number of doses available gradually increases.
“Those UK nationals who are already registered in the public health system should be contacted by their regional health service to arrange an appointment. The Spanish authorities are asking insurance companies to coordinate with regional health services in order to provide vaccines to their customers. We are in touch with the Spanish authorities regarding progress of the rollout and what that means for UK nationals. Meanwhile UK Nationals living in Spain can contact their local health centre or insurer for more information.” Full article: https://english.elpais.com/society/2021-03-15/covid-19-vaccines-for-uk-nationals-in-spain-what-the-british-embassy-says.html

IPTV News- Mobdro used users computers for botnet and DDoS attacks: The Mobdro takedown continues. While any number of advertising companies could have been working with Mobdro, that wasn’t the only way the app generated income. As reported in April 2019, Mobdro was criticized in a security study for including a system that made it possible for a “threat actor” (whoever Mobdro was selling your connection info to) to log in to a user’s device and then navigate away from the device to the Internet, effectively posing as the user online. (Many free VPNs do the same thing, using your computer to forward data to the final receiver, to hide themselves from being the source of pirate content. To an investigator it would appear as if YOU were the source of the pirate content. Remember, on the Internet, if you receive something for free, then YOU are the product! -Ed)
While this sounds scary, this was actually a ‘feature’ that Mobdro users opted into, to avoid seeing any advertising in the app. Users who made that choice found themselves being asked to consent to a EULA before their idle devices could be utilized by the Luminati proxy network. From there on in, their IP addresses and bandwidth could be used by others, as per the agreement.
“Through the computer infrastructure and power, [the operators of Mobdro] were able to sell user information to a company related to botnet and DDoS attacks,” Europol explains in a new press release.
Counter to these claims, Luminati denies any illegal activity.

Spanish Politics- Deputy PM Pablo Iglesias makes surprise move to run in the Madrid regional elections: In the most recent development, Spain’s second Deputy Prime Minister Pablo Iglesias, who is the leader of the leftist Unidas Podemos party, on Monday morning said he is quitting the Socialist Party-led coalition government in order to run as the Podemos candidate in an early election announced for the Madrid region.
Iglesias said he made the decision “to prevent the far right from taking over the institutions.” He added that he will be reaching out to Íñigo Errejón, leader of the leftist Más País and one of the original founders of Podemos, to make a joint run for the regional premiership in order to defeat the incumbent, Isabel Díaz Ayuso of the Popular Party (PP). Fed-up passengers denounce at least 15 public transport firms in Spain: Ministry of Transport, confirmed today, Monday, March 15, that at least 15 public transport companies have been denounced and sanctioned after slashing the frequency of their buses.
Hundreds of passengers have reportedly taken to social media over the last few days to air their anger at having to use “overcrowded public transport” because of the cuts.
The minister also told the radio station that the government is “finishing some adjustments” to plans for the Armed Forces to step in “to transport citizens” and reinforced night timetables in light of new restrictions.

Andalucia COVID News: {Translated from sevilla.abc.es}
Updated 14/03/2021, 23:40
-The Regional Minister for Health and Families, Jesús Aguirre, has warned this Sunday of two cases under study in Andalusia that could be of the South African variant of Covid-19, which would be added to the case already confirmed with this strain, and has called for caution. “New variants are new complications,” he said.
In an interview on Canal Sur Radio on the one-year anniversary of the decree of the first state of alarm in Spain as a measure to curb the spread of the coronavirus, the minister explained that there are two people arriving from Tanzania and Senegal who are awaiting the results of the test for Covid-19.
Aguirre stressed the importance of isolating these people and tracing their contacts. “New variants are new complications,” he said.
-Against this, he emphasised the “great hope” of the vaccine against Covid-19, of which he hopes to have 300,000 doses per week in April, which would be “a month of take-off” in the administration of doses. However, he regretted the “uneasiness” caused by “not having a certain number of vaccines”, which leads to altering the groups and vaccination plans.
-He pointed out that Pfizer has confirmed some 190,000 doses per week in April, to which should be added those sent by Moderna and the latest approved by Johnson & Johnson (Janssen), although he has “little hope” that a large quantity of the latter will arrive.
-He also stressed that “the clearest solution is the vaccine” and pointed out that there are no hospital admissions among the elderly population in homes that have been vaccinated. “After a year they are going out on the street, seeing their relatives and we have no positives,” he stressed. World COVID News
-Irish authorities recommended use of the AstraZeneca vaccine be halted temporarily, amid reports of “serious blood clotting events” from the Norwegian Medicines Agency, though there’s no conclusion of a link between the vaccine and the cases. The suspension has not been formally implemented yet, but the government has always followed its advisors’ recommendations up to now.
-Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine will start being distributed in Europe from late April, with a target of 200 million doses in the region by the end of summer. The company is teaming with other laboratories to produce its vaccine, including Sanofi Pasteur in France
-Dubai is conducting a clinical trial on 2,500 patients to assess the accuracy of a breath test to detect the virus within one minute. The test is developed by the National University of Singapore’s Breathonix Pte Ltd., which previously conducted a Singapore-based pilot study that involved 180 patients and achieved a sensitivity of 93% and specificity of 95% with a machine learning algorithm.
-Japan is reportedly mulling an end to the virus emergency in the Tokyo area amid falling hospitalization rates. The move would help pave the way for the Tokyo Olympics committee to consider allowing as much as 50% of spectator capacity at game venues this summer, according to the Sankei newspaper. Sankei cited a cabinet minister as saying the emergency may have lost its effectiveness in improving the situation.

IPTV News- Texas Man Ordered to Pay $1.6 Million Damages for Selling 10 Pirate IPTV Boxes on Facebook: The court agreed that the man sold at least ten pirate TV boxes via Facebook. “Screenshots of the defendant’s Facebook profiles for his business show that he has boasted about selling the TV boxes to eight different customers, and ABS’s investigator ordered and received the TV boxes from the defendant twice,” Judge Brown writes. “The minimum penalty of $10,000 for each of the defendant’s ten violations, for a total of $100,000, is just and reasonable to achieve the statutory goals of compensating ABS, punishing the defendant, and deterring others from engaging in such misconduct in the future.”
The largest damages amount comes from the trademark infringements, which violate the Lanham Act. ABS-CBN requested a total of $1,500,000 in statutory damages, which the court deemed reasonable as well. Bad News For Bitcoin Despite Value Surge: In what some see as a coming trend, India will propose a law banning cryptocurrencies, fining anyone trading in the country or even holding such digital assets, a senior government official told Reuters, in a potential blow to millions of investors piling into the red-hot asset class. If the ban becomes law, India would be the first major economy to make holding cryptocurrency illegal. Even China, which has banned mining and trading, does not penalise possession. An India government panel in 2019 recommended jail of up to 10 years on people who mine, generate, hold, sell, transfer, dispose of, issue or deal in cryptocurrencies. Covid infections fall below 1,000 in Andalusia and ICU admissions drop: {Translated from sevilla.abc.es} Updated 13/03/2021 19:03
-The pandemic is showing signs of slowing down in Andalusia, where the latest data on new infections and hospitalisations are in line with those before the third wave began, after the Christmas holidays.
-The Regional Ministry of Health and Families reports this Saturday that, currently, 1,159 patients confirmed with Covid-19 remain hospitalised in Andalusian hospitals (21 less than on Friday), of which 286 are in ICU (Intensive Care Units), 22 less. You have to go back to the first half of January to find better records.
-Hospital pressure continues to fall on a day in which the spread of infections has been significantly reduced. Thus, in the last 24 hours, 890 new positives have been confirmed by PCR and rapid antigen tests, a record that falls below one thousand after two days above this level.
-In the last 24 hours, the pandemic has left 22 new deaths in the autonomous community (7 in Huelva, 4 in Seville and Cadiz, 3 in Malaga, 2 in Almeria, 1 in Cordoba and Jaen and none in Granada).
-In cumulative data, the balance of the pandemic, which was declared just over a year ago, leaves 8,895 dead in Andalusia, 486,380 infected and 354,292 recovered.
-Health also reports on the progress of the vaccination campaign in the autonomous region, where 1,088,716 doses have already been administered and 348,273 people have already been immunised, having received the two prescribed vials.
-The 14-day cumulative incidence rate in Andalusia (cases of coronavirus diagnosed in the last two weeks per 100,000 inhabitants) is 121.4, according to the latest data updated by the regional Institute of Statistics and Cartography (IECA), a proportion of Covid-19 patients that is below the national average, which is 130.51.
-This indicator is a basic indicator of whether the pandemic is under control or far from it. It is calculated by dividing the number of cases appearing in a period by the number of individuals free of the disease at the beginning of the period.
-There are two provinces that exceed the regional average rate, Almería (221) and Granada (179.9), precisely where, according to the health authorities, the greatest presence of the British strain of the virus, the most contagious, has been detected. The next highest incidence was detected in Cordoba (122), followed by Seville (119), Cadiz (101.5), Malaga (98), Jaen (95) and at a great distance Huelva (48.5).
-By communities, the spread of infections ranges from 224.84 in Madrid, 177.75 in Asturias and 175.52 in the Basque Country, maximums and 50.56 in the Valencian Community, 48.11 in the Balearic Islands and 46.08 in Extremadura, minimums. Europe Confronts a Covid-19 Rebound as Vaccine Hopes Recede: The European Union’s fight against Covid-19 is stuck in midwinter, even as spring and vaccinations spur hope of improvement in the U.S. and U.K.
Contagion is rising again in much of the EU, despite months of restrictions on daily life, as more-virulent virus strains outpace vaccinations. A mood of gloom and frustration is settling on the continent, and governments are caught between their promises of progress and the bleak epidemiological reality.
So far, there is nothing like the acute hospital crisis that overwhelmed healthcare systems in parts of Italy and Spain a year ago. Instead, the bloc’s public-health crisis has become chronic, with authorities struggling constantly to tamp down the flames. Three people in Norway treated for “bleeding, blood clots” after AstraZeneca COVID-19 shots: Norway halted the rollout of the AstraZeneca vaccine on Thursday, following a similar move by Denmark. Iceland later followed suit. All three individuals were under the age of 50.
“They have very unusual symptoms: bleeding, blood clots and a low count of blood platelets,” Steinar Madsen, Medical Director at the Norwegian Medicines Agency told broadcaster NRK.
Before Denmark and Norway stopped their rollout of the AstraZeneca vaccine, Austria stopped using a batch of the shots while investigating a death from coagulation disorders and an illness from a pulmonary embolism. Bronze age burial site in Spain suggests women were among rulers: Researchers in Murcia find exquisite objects at women’s graves later used as sites for elite warrior burials.
A burial site found in Spain – described by archaeologists as one of the most lavish bronze age graves discovered to date in Europe – has sparked speculation that women may have been among the rulers of a highly stratified society that flourished on the Iberian peninsula until 1550BC.
Since 2013, a team of more than a dozen researchers have been investigating the site of La Almoloya in the southern Spanish region of Murcia.
The society, which thrived from 2200BC onwards, was highly organised with a wealthy elite that was probably sustained by some sort of tax system. “In western Europe there was nothing of the like,” said Risch, pointing to the rest of Spain where people at the time were living in self-sufficient communities of 50 to 100 people.
By the 16th century BC, all of El Argar’s settlements were abandoned, believed to have been racked by internal uprisings. “Shortly after the woman dies, the whole settlement is burned down,” said Risch. “And not until the Greeks and Phoenicians arrive on the Iberian peninsula did we see anything similar, either in architecture or in political dimension.”

Brussels fails in second attempt to revive vaccination pace: {Summary, translated from elpais.com}
-Europe’s vaccination campaigns are once again being derailed by failures in the distribution of doses, doubts about the side effects of some doses, and bickering between some member states. The main problems revolve around repeated failures by the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca to meet the agreed delivery schedule.
-The company has acknowledged that it will miss its first quarter target, despite having already revised it downwards by more than 60% to 40 million doses. The new figures point to a delivery of 30 million, a 25% cut. Some EU sources suggest that the figure could be even lower. For the second quarter, AstraZeneca says it will only deliver 70 million doses out of the 180 million planned. In total, the company is aiming to deliver 100 million doses in the first half of the year, it said in a statement released on Friday.
-AstraZeneca’s new fiasco caps off a turbulent week, which began with the acknowledgement that not all of the expected vaccines will be distributed in the second quarter either. The European Commission, based on data from pharmaceutical companies, has revised estimates from 380 million doses to 300 million, almost a quarter less.
-The second-quarter cutback comes despite the Commission’s marketing authorisation for Janssen’s vaccine, the fourth in the EU portfolio and the first to be administered in a single dose. Brussels had hoped the new drug would help speed up vaccination campaigns. However, the pharmaceutical company (owned by US multinational Johnson & Johnson) has already indicated that the first deliveries to the EU will not arrive until the second half of April. “Right now we don’t have a single vaccine in stock,” said Johan Van Hoof, head of Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine division.
-The Commission has booked up to 1.86 billion doses with the four companies that have a licensed vaccine in Europe (BioNTech-Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Janssen). The EU body used a budget of 2.6 billion euros to pay six companies (the four licensed companies plus CureVac and Sanofi-GSK) to produce the EU-bound doses in advance, without waiting for the green light from the European Medicines Agency. The aim was for the vials to start flowing into member states as soon as the agency validated the vaccines. But only Germany’s BioNTech and its industrial partner, US-based Pfizer, appear to have met this commitment. The delivery schedule for the rest remains uncertain.

Amid vaccine shortage Andalucía halts use of 1,200 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccines, others in short supply: These AstraZeneca vaccines are stopped as a result of the blood clot incidents reported in Austria. The Junta has decided to keep this batch of vaccines on “stand-by” until the findings of the EMA are known.
-Aguirre has also reported that the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) has received, this Friday, “less than half of the expected doses” of the AstraZeneca vaccine and went on to announced that the new Janssen vaccine, recently authorised by the European Union, will not arrive “until April and there will be few.”

WHO grants emergency use listing for the Covid vaccine made by Johnson & Johnson: The World Health Organization granted an emergency use listing Friday for the coronavirus vaccine made by Johnson & Johnson, meaning the one-dose shot can now theoretically be used as part of the international COVAX effort to distribute vaccines globally, including to poor countries without any supplies.
In a statement, the U.N. health agency said “the ample data from large clinical trials” shows the J&J vaccine is effective in adult populations. The emergency use listing comes a day after the European Medicines Agency recommended the shot be given the green light across the 27-country European Union. Italy to shut shops and schools amid infection spike: Residents in Italy’s “red-zone” regions will be required to stay home except for work, health or other essential reasons. From Monday, schools, shops and restaurants will shut in more than half of Italy, including the two most populous regions containing Rome and Milan, with PM Mario Draghi warning of a “new wave” of the coronavirus outbreak.
For three days over Easter, 3-5 April, there will be a total shutdown. Full article: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-56382608

Hundreds could be affected by residency rejections over health insurance dates: A group campaigning for the rights of Britons in Spain after Brexit has called for urgent action from the authorities as “hundreds” of British nationals are set to be rejected as new Spanish residents.
Brexpats in Spain claim there have been misunderstandings over the start dates of applicants’ private health policies. The problem is particularly evident in Malaga and Alicante provinces.
The terms of the Withdrawal Agreement say that this healthcare cover needed to be valid from when the British national started living in Spain as a resident.
According to Brexpats in Spain, there could be hundreds of Britons caught out as their private policies were only dated to start from 1 January 2021, once the transition period after Brexit ended, instead of starting on a date up to 31 December 2020. Rincón de la Victoria Streets Resurfacing Begins: Works get underway this week, starting with the execution of resurfacing works in Avenida de la Torre, after which they will move on to do the same in a dozen streets altogether in the four urban centres of the municipality. Works will also be carried out on some sections of the Lavadero lane and the Lower Los Morenos lane, and the project is scheduled to finish in calle Mistral, Manuel Barón, Salvador Dalí and the overpass in calle Verdial.
Pavements, including the corresponding horizontal signaling, will also be refurbished where required, and in some cases, the replacement of manhole covers, shafts, and gratings. Full article: https://www.euroweeklynews.com/2021/03/12/rincon-de-la-victoria-streets-resurfacing-begins/

Fakebook To Jam In Even More Ads: Facebook has started displaying ads in users’ News Feeds. You may not be seeing them yet as the company is rolling them out gradually, like it does for all its changes.
These new ads are marked as “Featured,” which could be confusing given that Facebook has always used the word “Sponsored” for its ads. Currently, Facebook uses the verb “feature” for making content on a user’s Timeline bigger and more prominent.
Last month, a Facebook spokesperson said the company hoped to “show people no more than one Sponsored Story in their News Feeds per day.” This is no longer the case, as Facebook now says you may see more Featured stories “if you visit your News Feed a lot.”
Facebook may have chosen “Featured” over “Sponsored” for these new ads since these stories are not simply paid for by advertisers. The stories must be related to friends and/or Pages which users have previously Liked. In other words, you won’t see these ads appearing organically in your News Feed- they need to be linked to you in one or more ways. (As determined by the very Artificial Intelligence snoops whistleblower Edward Snowden exposed in his video I posted in yesterday’s issue. -Ed.)

Eight European countries suspend vaccination with AstraZeneca after two thrombus deaths: {Translated from sevilla.abc.es}
-The European Medicines Agency (EMA) is reviewing its recommendation on the AstraZeneca vaccine and expects to issue a new statement on the matter today or tomorrow. The EMA announced in a first statement on Wednesday that a preliminary investigation into a batch of AstraZeneca vaccines used in Austria had found that the vaccines were not linked to the death of a nurse vaccinated with them or to the serious condition of a second patient in the same hospital. “There is no indication at this stage that the vaccination caused these conditions, which are not classified as side effects,” it said.
-This seemed to put to rest the case of the 49-year-old nurse who died “due to severe blood circulation problems” days after receiving the vaccine. Then a second woman also had to be hospitalised with a pulmonary embolism after being vaccinated, and Austrian health authorities recalled the entire batch, part of a batch of one million doses that has been distributed among 17 countries. Denmark was the first country to follow in Austria’s footsteps – which recalled a batch of doses of the drug – even though the EMA insists that “a quality defect is considered unlikely at this stage”.
-After Denmark, now Norway, Iceland, Austria, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia and Luxembourg have joined the suspension of vaccination with AstraZeneca.
-Italy, meanwhile, has blocked the use of a batch following the deaths of two people, a 43-year-old soldier and a 50-year-old policeman, both in Sicily.
-The Danish Health Service (SST) has decided to suspend, for 14 days, not the use of this batch, but of all AstraZeneca vaccines, after recording “serious cases of thrombosis” in people who had received it, one of which resulted in the death of the patient. The SST has made all the information available to the EMA, but for the moment it prefers to apply a “precautionary principle” and will not vaccinate any more people with this brand until the end of March. “We are in the biggest and most important vaccination campaign in Danish history and we need all the vaccines we can get, so it is not an easy decision to suspend one of them, but we have to react very carefully when there is evidence of possible serious effects,” said SST director Soren Brostrom.
-After receiving the Danish reports, the EMA is studying this documentation on the clotting problems diagnosed in coincidence with the receipt of a vaccine from AstraZeneca and expects to issue “today or tomorrow” an advice on the use of the drug in the European Union. The EMA’s safety committee (PRAC) is now meeting in Amsterdam to analyse the new information available that could affect the ABV5300 batch. The PRAC is now reviewing all reported cases of conditions and all cases of thromboembolic events and blood clot-related conditions reported by patients in the days following vaccination.
-The Dutch authorities also recorded on Thursday a case of thrombosis diagnosed after an injection with AstraZeneca’s vaccine, but it was not a serious case requiring hospitalisation. However, the Dutch centre that registers the side effects of vaccines, Lareb, is investigating it further.
-AstraZenec has told the Dutch television NOS that it is in close contact with the EMA, and in attempting to divert blame, recalled that it is the European regulator that decides on the practical consequences of these reported clotting problems in vaccinated people. “It is not up to us to decide or advise on the use of vaccines, that is for the health authorities.” Source, Spanish: https://sevilla.abc.es/sociedad/abci-dinamarca-suspende-vacunacion-astrazeneca-posibles-efectos-secundarios-trombos-202103111121_noticia.html

COVID-19 Vaccine Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) is now authorised across the EU: This follows the granting of a conditional marketing authorisation by the European Commission on 11 March 2021.
After a thorough evaluation, EMA’s human medicines committee (CHMP) concluded by consensus that the data on the vaccine were robust and met the criteria for efficacy, safety and quality. COVID-19 Vaccine Janssen is the fourth vaccine recommended in the EU for preventing COVID-19.
“With this latest positive opinion, authorities across the European Union will have another option to combat the pandemic and protect the lives and health of their citizens,” said Emer Cooke, EMA’s Executive Director, adding, “this is the first vaccine which can be used as a single dose”.
The US, UK, and Bahrain have already approved the shot and are using it in their inoculation campaigns.
The one-shot inoculation can be stored in normal refrigerators for up to three months, compared to its two-dose counterparts that require frigid temperatures and expire quickly.
Although the single-dose vaccine is expected to speed up inoculation campaigns across Europe, the bloc will have to wait — the EU is expecting its first batch of a massive 200 million-dose shipment of the shot next month.

These are the national Covid-19 control measure changes approved for Easter in Spain: Easter 2021 in Spain, Friday 26 March to Friday 9 April, will face significant restrictions throughout the country to try and prevent a rise in coronavirus infections after the holiday period.
-Movement between all the mainland Spanish regions is banned apart from for justified reasons which can include work, health and care of dependent people. Therefore, you will not be able to leave or enter Andalucía during the Easter holidays. The regional government is considering allowing mobility between provinces, within the region, but it has not yet been approved.
-Meetings in closed public spaces are limited to the maximum number of four people who are not living together and six in the case of open spaces. As for private spaces, such as homes, meetings are limited to cohabiting people.
-Mobility at night, the well-known curfew, is established between 11pm and 6 am. Regions can extend these curfew hours if they deem it necessary. In the case of Andalucía, the curfew currently starts at 10pm, but it could be delayed until 11pm at Easter with the new order.
-Spain’s Ministry of Health and the regions have established two periods for measures to come into force. The first is between 17 and 21 March in the regions where there is a San José holiday (Madrid, Valencian Community, Murcia, Navarra, Extremadura, Galicia and the Basque Country) but not in Andalucía. The other period is the one that corresponds to Easter from Friday 26 March to Friday 9 April.

Microsoft in Damage Control Mode, Fighting Off Ongoing Hack: Microsoft Issues Security Patches for 89 Flaws, Internet Explorer Under Active Attacks: Microsoft plugged as many as 89 security flaws as part of its monthly Patch Tuesday updates released today, including fixes for an actively exploited zero-day in Internet Explorer that could permit an attacker to run arbitrary code on target machines.
Of these flaws, 14 are listed as Critical, and 75 are listed as Important in severity, out of which two of the bugs are described as publicly known, while five others have been reported as under active attack at the time of release.
In the wake of the MS Exchange servers coming under intense assault toward the end of February, by multiple threat groups looking to exploit the vulnerabilities and plant backdoors on corporate networks, Microsoft took the unusual step of releasing out-of-band fixes a week earlier than planned. Full article: https://thehackernews.com/2021/03/microsoft-issues-security-patches-for.html

Microsoft Hack Update- At least 10 different hacking groups using recently discovered flaw in Microsoft Corp’s mail server software to break in to targets around the world:
The security holes in the widely used mail and calendaring solution leave the door open to industrial-scale cyber espionage, allowing malicious actors to steal emails virtually at will from vulnerable servers. Tens of thousands of organizations have already been compromised, Reuters reported last week, and new victims are being made public daily.
Earlier on Wednesday, for example, Norway’s parliament announced data had been “extracted” in a breach linked to the Microsoft flaws. Germany’s cybersecurity watchdog agency also said on Wednesday two federal authorities had been affected by the hack, although it declined to identify them.
Microsoft has blamed the hack on China. The Chinese government denies any role. Full article: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-cyber-microsoft/at-least-10-hacking-groups-using-microsoft-software-flaw-researchers-idUSKBN2B224O

Mobdro Pirate Streaming: In February it became clear that the video streaming tool was suffering serious problems.
Alongside reports that Mobdro was no longer working, there was speculation that Mobdro may have been subjected to law enforcement action. Following a new announcement from Eurojust (European Union Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation), it is clear that the authorities were involved in the app’s demise.
Eurojust said it recently coordinated an “action day” against Mobdro. This led to the search of four locations. One suspect was arrested by Spanish authorities and three others were reportedly taken in for questioning in Spain and Andorra. Stepping on the toes of the Premier League, La Liga, and the members of the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (all at once), was never likely to end well. Spanish Politics- Infighting triggers political earthquake: When Ciudadanos turned on the Popular Party in the southeastern Murcia, it was not expecting a chain reaction extending all the way to Andalusia and Castilla y León
The precarious balance between the country’s two main political blocs has been broken by what started out as a local move that quickly snowballed into an event with national repercussions.
In just a few hours on Wednesday, a no-confidence motion filed in Murcia against the conservative Popular Party (PP) by the Socialist Party (PSOE) and the liberal Ciudadanos (Citizens) led to the fall of the regional government of Madrid, and threatened to destabilize other regions such as Andalusia and Castilla y León.
All eyes are now on Andalusia, which is also run by a coalition of the PP and Ciudadanos. The government there has stated that its stability is assured despite calls for an early election by the far-right Vox, which props up the coalition. And Ciudadanos has said it plans to stand by its partner.

Masks & Curfews- No End In Sight with Vaccines in Short Supply: The Junta will not ease Covid restrictions until mass vaccination begins in Andalucía. Considering that Andalucia has only gotten jabs to half the over 80s so far, and that the regional government has acknowledged that the vaccination of the over 80s has stalled due to the lack of doses, it is not clear how there will be any relaxation of restrictions by summer. The only restriction that may be lifted in the near future is inter- provincial travel, and even that is doubtful. Andalucía regional government officials have said they are not in favour of easing containment restrictions until mass vaccination of the population starts.
The Junta’s spokesperson, Elías Bendodo, said he regretted that there has been a halt in the vaccination of those over 80s since doses of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines – which are those recommended for this age group – are not arriving in the region.
The Andalusia region is nearing a million people with the first dose of the vaccine: 934,708 which is 7% of its 8.4 million residents. Meanwhile, 255,876 people (2.95%) have had the two doses needed for the full protection offered by the Covid-19 vaccines being used. After the process was completed in the region’s 655 care homes, the regional government is now finishing the process of vaccinating healthcare professionals, with 83% having received both doses. The 400,000 in the 80-and-over population are now in the process of receiving the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. Half have received the first dose, and 6% both doses, according to data from March 5. The regional government is also vaccinating the disabled in their homes as well as grade-three disabled people who cannot travel to vaccination sites.

Salud “hopes” to start the vaccination of Andalusians between 75 and 80 years old in mid-April: {Translated from sevilla.abc.es}
-The Ministry of Health and Families hopes to start vaccinating Andalusians between 75 and 80 years old in the second half of April and complete immunization of those over 80 years of age by the third week of next month. Everything will depend on “fulfilling” the commitment of the Ministry of Health to send 200,000 weekly vaccines from the Pfizer and BioNTech laboratories indicated for this age group. This weekly shipment is needed so that we can “finish giving at least the first vaccine” to half of those over 80 years of age who still have to get the first injection, explained the Health Minister, Jesús Aguirre.
-In the press conference after the Government Council in Andalusia, Aguirre has stated that in the inter-territorial council of Health that will be held this Wednesday, he will again ask the Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, that the State send more doses to Andalusia in order to speed up the vaccination process. The goal is to reach 70% of vaccinated by the summer, as President Pedro Sánchez has promised.
-The counselor has indicated that last Friday he told the counselor that he had approved the plan to get half a million weekly vaccinations starting in April. “The minister told me to go preparing the 600,000 and 700,000 [plan] because many more vaccines will arrive .” As supply increases, they would start at the end of April with the following age groups. If an important volume arrives, being optimistic, at the end of April it could begin to puncture the doses to Andalusians who are in the age range of 70 to 75 years has indicated.
-“If I manage to have those who are over 60 vaccinated for the summer, I will not be as worried as right now,” stressed the regional health officer. Both Aguirre and the counselor of the Presidency and Government spokesman, Elías Bendodo , have highlighted that Andalusia is the community that has given the most vaccines, 93.2 percent of the doses received. Only 3% of the population has already injected the two doses necessary to complete the immunization cycle. “We need a lot more,” said Aguirre, who lamented that 5,000 fewer vaccines arrive this week.
*Stopped calls to those over 80 years of age*
-As for those over 80 years old, the Health Minister has again asked for patience as there will be a stoppage of calls for two weeks because more vaccines are only scheduled to arrive by the end of March and April. This week no one new over 80 years of age will be called ”and at the end of March or the beginning of April the first 24,000 new Andalusians will be called over this age of the remaining half.
-“We are pending to give 50% of the vaccines to people over 80 years old, those that arrive will be for the second dose of 80 years. Hence, I ask for patience because we have to wait for more vaccines to arrive by the end of March and April. This week no one new over 80 years of age will be called ”and at the end of March or the beginning of April the first 24,000 new Andalusians will be called over this age of the remaining half.
The counselor of the Presidency assured that reaching 70% vaccinated “will depend on the government being firm and complying with what has been signed.”
-The Minister of Health and Families of the Junta de Andalucía has insisted that he hopes that Health will authorize him to give the AstraZeneca vaccine to people between 55 and 65 years old because people of those ages have not been offered this as the provision of AstraZeneca vaccines from 55 years of age is not recommended, while doses of Pfizer or Moderna are not administered either because” it would be taking them away “from those over 80 years of age. Cancel Culture- Piers Morgan Quits ‘Good Morning Britain’ Hours After Storming Off Set: Broadcaster Piers Morgan has left Good Morning Britain, one of the U.K.’s most-watched breakfast shows, hours after he stormed off the show’s set while being confronted by a co-host over his disparaging coverage of Meghan Markle.
Morgan’s sudden departure comes after the U.K.’s broadcasting regulator, Ofcom, received more than 40,000 complaints about comments he made Monday regarding the Duchess of Sussex’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.
The comments on Monday prompted calls from critics for ITV to fire Morgan, while leading U.K. mental health charity Mind said it was in talks with the network over his coverage. Photo:Twitter. Can You Trust the Cloud? – EU Banking Authority Hacked As Microsoft Exchange Attacks Continue- Statement Issued: While stating that a full investigation was underway, the EBA went on to add: “As the vulnerability is related to the EBA’s email servers, access to personal data through emails held on that servers may have been obtained by the attacker.”
Meanwhile, Mark Bower, a senior vice-president at comforte AG, said that “the capacity for attackers to extract sensitive data from emails, spreadsheets in mailboxes, insecure credentials in messages, as well as attached servers presents an advanced and persistent threat with multiple dimensions.” “Affected entities and their supply chain partners will see a persistent secondary impact as a result over a long period of time,” he said.

Andalusia resumes the decline in coronavirus infections and reports only 454 on Monday: {Translated from sevilla.abc.es}
-The community marks the best figure for the start of a week since the beginning of last August, when the curve reached its lowest levels.
-Andalusia has seen 454 coronavirus infections on Monday. This is the best figure for the start of a week since 10 August, when the pandemic was at its lowest point. This data seems to confirm that the bottleneck in the drop in cases throughout last week has to do with the 28 February long weekend, which contaminated the statistical series.
-In any case, it is true that the figures are falling at a slower rate. From a drop of more than a thousand cases a day that was recorded in the community weeks ago, it has gone down to about 200 fewer infections in the weekly comparison. Thus, last Monday there were 610 cases and the previous Monday, 650, only 200 more than today.
-The incidence rate of the pandemic, which last Friday was less than 130 cases per hundred thousand inhabitants, is now at 131. This, an effect of the plateau of data in which the community is installed, may change in the next few days if the drop in infections on Monday is maintained. This variable, which measures the intensity and speed of the spread of the pandemic in Andalusia, could then fall again.
-The death toll, which on Mondays is usually the lowest of the week, is now nine, the lowest number reported by the Regional Ministry of Health in weeks. In total, the community has now recorded 8,691 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
-Meanwhile, in the hospitals the pressure continues to fall timidly. There are 1,315 hospital admissions, five less than yesterday. Mondays usually mean a rise in the number of hospitalised In addition, there is also good news in the ICU. The number of people hospitalised in intensive care has fallen by eight, and now stands at 338, the lowest figure since 16 January. Vaccine passports will be a feature of our life for foreign travel, says Boris Johnson: “There’s been certificates for things like yellow fever and other diseases in the past, and I’m sure that that will be a feature of our life in the future.” It is understood he is considering the possibility of the NHS coronavirus app featuring a digital health passport, which would carry details of vaccinations and negative test results. Andalusia stagnates above a thousand daily cases of coronavirus and adds another 41 deaths: {Translated from sevilla.abc.es} Updated:06/03/2021 20:43
-British strain leaves Almería, Granada, Cádiz and Jerez on level 3 alert
-Andalusian areas on level 2 Covid alert can buy high-proof alcohol until 9.30pm
-Andalusia has added 1,239 coronavirus infections this Saturday. This is much less than at the peak of the third wave, which reached almost 8,000 cases, but it also means that the community seems to be stuck at around a thousand cases a day. In fact, last Saturday the region recorded 200 fewer cases than today, which could indicate a change in the Andalusian data on the pandemic.
-Infections, which is where changes in the trend of the curve tracing the health crisis can first be seen, seem to have flattened out after weeks of vertical fall. Andalusia is seeing a plateau that may become more complicated in the coming weeks.
-For its part, the cumulative incidence rate of the autonomous community has fallen this day to 128.93 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days, which is 1.97 points lower than the rate of 130.9 the day before. It is down, yes, but much less sharply than on previous days. As a reference, it is worth noting that Andalusia’s cumulative incidence dropped from almost 1,000 points to less than 200 in just four weeks. And in the last two weeks it has only dropped 70 points.
-In the case of deaths, this plateau can also be observed. This Saturday there were 41 deaths, a figure similar to the previous four days. However, Andalusia is still far from the more than 100 deaths it recorded weeks ago.
-The third factor that casts doubt on Saturday’s figures is in the hospitals. This Saturday there are 1,457 people hospitalised for coronavirus in Andalusia. This is 45 less than yesterday, a drop that is positive, yes, but it is the lowest for a Saturday since the end of January. In the case of the ICU there are 355 patients, one more than yesterday, Friday.
-Andalusia is in a complicated moment in epidemiological terms. The third wave is receding with less and less force and there may come a point when the tables turn and the timid negative values become more cases and admissions. Although this is not the scenario at the moment, the plateau that is being drawn at the moment invites us to keep an eye on the numbers of the health crisis in the coming days.

Ground-Breaking Ruling For Business Struggling To Pay Rent: A Malaga court has made the pioneering decision to apply a little-known legal procedure to a business whose landlord refused to reduce the rent even though the owner of the company could prove that they had suffered severe financial loss as a result of Covid restrictions and could not possibly pay the amount owed. ‘Rebus sic stantibus’ states that legal contracts can be renegotiated or even terminated if there is a dramatic unexpected change in circumstances, such as the global coronavirus pandemic. Microsoft Services Hack Update- White House cites ‘active threat,’ urges action despite Microsoft patch: The White House on Sunday urged computer network operators to take further steps to gauge whether their systems were targeted amid a hack of Microsoft Corp’s Outlook email program, saying a recent software patch still left serious vulnerabilities.
“This is an active threat still developing and we urge network operators to take it very seriously,” a White House official said, adding that top U.S. security officials were working to decide what next steps to take following the breach.
CNN on Sunday separately reported the Biden administration was forming a task force to address the hack. The White House official, in a statement, said the administration was making “a whole of government response.”
While Microsoft released a patch last week to shore up flaws in its email software, the remedy still leaves open a so-called back door that can allow access to compromised servers (and all accounts on those servers) and perpetuating further attacks by others. iMac Pro DISCONTINUED- If you want to buy an iMac Pro, you’ll need to move quickly: The much-loved system is only available to buy “while supplies last” as Apple is discontinuing the high-end computer.
The only option for iMac Pro seekers looking to buy direct from Apple is the $4,999, 3.0GHz 10-core Intel Xeon W 27-inch base model, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD storage and 8GB Radeon Pro Vega 56. If you are happy with these specs, you’re unlikely to be happy about delivery times — there’s currently a three to four week delay between ordering and delivery. There is a chance that third-party sellers will have different options available, however. Full article: https://betanews.com/2021/03/07/apple-discontinues-imac-pro/#comments

‘It’s over’- Nigel Farage quits politics for good: Nigel Farage, the grassroots Brexit politician largely credited with pressuring David Cameron into having an EU referendum, has quit politics for good. Mr Farage was the leader of the UK Independence Party until he famously quit after the 2016 Leave vote.
However, he made a sensational return two years later to form the Brexit Party, which later became the Reform Party, as a reaction to the government’s negotiations with the European Union.
Now, it seems, he has finally had enough.
“There’s no going back – Brexit is done,” he told the Sunday Telegraph’s Chopper Politics podcast. Full article: https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/nigel-farage-quits-politics-for-good-b922626.html
