More Problems for Out-of-Control Big Tech- Potentially Billions in Copyright Infringement Damages Against YouTube: For many years, Google-owned YouTube has been wrestling with the vast amounts of copyright-infringing content being uploaded by users to its platform. While YouTube unmercilessly censors and de-monitizes Conservative content creators, YouTube profits from illegally posted, copyright infringing videos they host. The 44-page complaint leaves no stone unturned, slamming YouTube as a platform designed from the ground up to draw in users with the lure of a “vast library” of pirated content and incentivizing the posting of even more material. YouTube then reaps the rewards via advertising revenue and exploitation of personal data at the expense of copyright holders who never gave permission for their work to be uploaded. Full story:

The End of the Social Media Era Can’t Come Soon Enough (Vanity Fair Editorial): Will a future generation look back in 10, 20, or maybe 100 years from now and wonder, mystifyingly, why a generation of humans believed in these platforms despite mounting evidence that they were tearing society apart—being used as terrorist recruitment tools, facilitating bullying, driving up anxiety, and undermining our elections—despite the obvious benefits and facilitations they provide?
One of the problems is that these platforms act, in many ways, like drugs. Facebook, and every other social-media outlet, knows that all too well. Your phone vibrates a dozen times an hour with alerts about likes and comments and retweets and faves. The combined effect is one of just trying to suck you back in, so their numbers look better for their next quarterly earnings report. Sean Parker, one of Facebook’s earliest investors and the company’s first president, came right out and said what we all know: the whole intention of Facebook is to act like a drug, by “[giving] you a little dopamine hit every once in a while, because someone liked or commented on a photo or a post or whatever.” That, Parker said, was by design. These companies are “exploiting a vulnerability in human psychology.” Former Facebook executive Chamath Palihapitiya has echoed this, too. “Do I feel guilty?” he asked rhetorically on CNN about the role Facebook is playing in society. “Absolutely I feel guilt.” Full article: https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2017/11/the-end-of-the-social-era-twitter-facebook-snapchat

Politically Correct food?: A campaign has been launched against the political incorrectness of food product brand names and mascots amid growing support for the #BlackLivesMatter movement. Have a look at what’s changing both in Spain and abroad.
A few months ago it was ColaCao, the chocolate drink brand, that ditched its decades-old song about the negrito – a patronizing term for a black man – and replaced it with another jingle devoid of racist overtones. Now, Conguitos, a popular Spanish chocolate candy, is to follow suit and get rid of it’s “adorable” mascot as the Black Lives Matter movement gains momentum in the wake of the George Floyd killing in Minnesota. That’s what a petition on the Change.org platform is demanding of Lacasa, the company that produces the candy. With almost 5,000 signatures, the initiative has caused a stir on social media, where the disproportionately large red lips of the Conguito caricatures have been remarked upon. Full story:

Copenhagen’s Little Mermaid labelled “racist fish”: Protesters of the Black Lives Matter movement around the world have in recent months rallied against statues of historical figures who played a role in racist oppression, such as slave traders and colonialists.
“I am having a hard time seeing what is particularly racist in the fairy tale “The Little Mermaid,” Ane Grum-Schwensen, researcher at the H.C. Andersen Center at University of Southern Denmark, told local news wire Ritzau. The Spanish government has a hotline to answer all queries from Brits living in Spain about the implications of Brexit, in English. Callers can ring 060 when in Spain or +34 902 887060 if calling from abroad and an automated system will offer the choice of either Spanish or English.
You will then be offered a choice of information on the different issues.

DoctorLaptop’s famous Annual Clean & TuneUp Service €60: For Windows & Mac. New “fileless” malware formats evade standard anti-virus programs, making it difficult for typical users to “dis-infect” computers themselves with free, consumer level tools.  If you rely on your computer and want it running at peak performance an annual professional servicing with advanced professional grade tools is necessary. You wouldn’t drive your car till it runs out of oil before servicing it, would you? If you did, the engine replacement will cost far more than if you had properly maintained it with an oil change once or twice a year. It’s the same with computers, you should do a quick cleanup yourself once a month, and get an annual professional service. I do the most comprehensive cleaning and tune-up possible: verify all System files and permissions, replacing any found to be corrupt, test all hardware and do hard disk sector repairs if needed, use a 5 tool malware/adware/spyware removal protocol, clean out junk files/logs/history/etc., update Windows/Mac+all drivers+programs and finally optimize your settings and registry for fastest overall performance. Job usually completed overnight. Heavily infected comps or those showing error messages need a repair, not a maintenance service. Hard disks of 1000Gb or more add €10 and may require 2 days to complete.
ALSO: Computer repairs, websites/blogs/forums/SEO, business computer maintenance & security service. Free shopping service, send me your requirements, I’ll find you the best deals!
Windows, Apple/Mac, Linux and Android all serviced.
Contact: doctorlaptop AT protonmail DOT com or call 675 993 069 (no calls answered before 11am, missed calls returned asap). Please do not use the DigameXtra email for DoctorLaptop business. Always include the make, model, and version of Windows/Mac installed when emailing for support.

Jeffrey Epstein Confidante Ghislaine Maxwell Arrested on Sex Abuse Charges: Ghislaine Maxwell, the British socialite and heiress who became a confidante of disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein and was later implicated in his alleged sexual crimes, has been arrested by the FBI.
She was arrested in Bradford, New Hampshire, around 8:30 a.m. Thursday on charges she conspired with Epstein to sexually abuse minors. She was found living at a reclusive, million-dollar luxury home with 156 acres of rural mountainside property, federal prosecutors said.
The case also ensnared British royalty, bringing an end to the royal duties of Epstein friend Prince Andrew. Prosecutors have been seeking to speak with him for months about his friendship with the financier and the allegations of abuse.

Big Tech Abusive Practices Under Investigation: The CEOs of the world’s four biggest technology companies will testify later this month before the House Judiciary Committee as lawmakers investigate competition in the tech industry, Reuters reported.
Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, Sundar Pichai of Google, Apple’s Tim Cook and Jeff Bezos from Amazon are expected to face no-holds-barred questions from lawmakers about the tech giants’ business practices. The panel has pressed for tougher antitrust rules and enforcement.
U.S. Rep. David Cicilline (D-Rhode Island), chairman of the House Antitrust Subcommittee, has asked each of the company’s executives to testify before completing its investigation and crafting reforms that would regulate the digital market. Recommendations & Requests

Avalon Hotel/restaurant Nerja: We would like to recommend the Avalon restaurant (opposite the Marinas de Nerja hotel on the Nerja road to Torrox Costa). We have always had excellent meals there, a little pricier than some but worth it for the presentation, taste and efficient friendly service. Also the lovely views of the sea and mountains from the terrace are a bonus.

Outside pest control: Hola, can anyone recommend an english speaking pest control person for a swimming pool that has been taken over by wasps! I live in Dehesa which is by the Lake Vinuela area. My phone #633643173 or

Thank you in advance. Laura/Dehesa

Spain reopens border with Portugal after three-month closure due to coronavirus: The border between Spain and Portugal was officially reopened on Wednesday in a ceremony led by Spain’s King Felipe VI and the president of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. The Spain-Portugal border, which is informally known as “la raya,”or the line, was closed for an unprecedented three and a half months due to the coronavirus crisis, which led to the imposition of strict travel restrictions. Its reopening is a symbolic sign that the worst of the crisis is now over. Spain to close half its coal-fired power stations: Spain is on track to become a coal-free country in record time. All of its remaining coal-fired thermal power plants will start shutting down on Tuesday, a year-and-a-half after the closure of the coal mines, which could not survive without the state aid that the European Union has banned.
Seven out of the 15 coal-fired power stations that are still working in Spain will cease being operational on June 30, after their owners – the electricity companies – decided that it does not make financial sense to adapt them to European regulations. And four more are getting ready to shut down soon. Full story: https://english.elpais.com/economy_and_business/2020-06-29/spain-to-close-half-its-coal-fired-power-stations.html

Golden Leaves Funeral Plans:
Pre-planning your funeral is a thoughtful and responsible way to show you care about your family.
Funerals are no easy task. There are numerous considerations to factor in, including logistics, food and drink, casket purchase and burial grounds. A loved one’s death brings immense emotional strain to any family, and the question of financing and arrangements only exacerbates the stress.
Handling all of these challenges is difficult enough in one’s normal circumstances, but having to go through it while abroad is an enormous burden.
Golden Leaves Funeral Plans aims to support grieving families during these tumultuous times. Since our inception in 1984, we have partnered with a widespread network of funeral directors across the UK and Europe.
Purchasing a funeral plan with Golden Leaves enables you to plan, design and pay for your funeral services in advance.
As one of the leading providers of expat prepaid funeral plans in Spain, Portugal, Cyprus, Balearic Islands, and the Canary Islands, we make sure to adequately support your family in the time of greatest need.

Vetiver Spain in Sayalonga
Are you having soil erosion issues after all the recent rain?
Vetiver is the perfect solution with the 3 – 4 metre root system.
The plant is non invasive, grows rapidly and once established it needs very little water.
We are finally open again for business. We are still not permitted to have visitors at our nursery but we can ship plants via post or we can deliver locally.
Our first day of shipping was Monday and we shipped 2,000 plants to various locations in Spain, Portugal, and Hungary.
We have plenty of Vetiver in stock. Right now the soil is nice and damp and the weather is starting to heat up so it is the perfect time to plant.
We also have Lemon Grass, Moringa Seedlings and Organic Moringa Powder.
Moringa, also known as the “Miracle Tree”, has many nutritional and health benefits. If you have ever been to a Thai Restaurant you have probably had Lemon Grass.
Lemon Grass grows easily and quickly. Take a look at our website or go directly to the two links below. If you have any questions please contact us either by email or phone.

So You Thought All Those Covid Handouts Were Free?: Bank of Spain eyes tax hikes to offset soaring debt from Covid-19 crisis. The Bank of Spain on Tuesday recommended drafting a medium-term plan with adjustment measures to offset the high debt (“the highest in many decades”) that the coronavirus health crisis will be leaving behind.
The proposed fiscal adjustments, to be adopted at a later time, include raising taxes.
Spain demands non-repayable bailout grants from the EU, but expects it’s citizens to pay back any Covid assistance as loans. It sounds like a double standard to many and has caused a great rift in Spanish politics that were already in conflict over the Covid response. Conservative parties believe the Spanish Gov’t’s mishandling of the crisis to a large degree led to the financial difficulties in the first place. Planning to raise taxes while people are struggling to recover sounds counter productive to that recovery say critics.

Price Gouging- Google hikes YouTube TV price to $64.99: Alphabet Inc’s Google said on Tuesday that it has raised the price of its YouTube TV online service by 30% to $64.99 per month, citing rising cost of content. The price hike, effective from Tuesday, comes amid a surge in demand for online content as live events, movie theaters and sporting events remain closed or canceled due to coronavirus-led restrictions. Google in April 2019 raised the cost of its YouTube TV subscription by 25% to $49.99. Spain resorted to ‘gag law’ more than ever before during coronavirus lockdown: Within the first 75 days of confinement, the Interior Ministry issued nearly 1.1 million sanctions, up 42% from the amount handed out between 2015 and 2018.
The controversial legislation, approved by the Popular Party (PP) in 2015, was criticized from day one for impeding freedom of expression because it established fines for doing things like protesting in front of parliament or taking and sharing photographs of police officers. The opposition claimed it was a way to clamp down on the street protests taking place at the time against political corruption and mismanagement of the economic crisis.
But the “gag law” will turn five years old this Wednesday, and not only has it not been repealed or reformed, it has actually been used more than ever in recent times, under Sánchez’s administration. Countdown about to run out on Brexit negotiation extension possibility: It was agreed at the last extension that if by 12am CET (Central European time), on June 30 2020, a further extension had not been asked for then there could not be any extension whatsoever, and the negotiations would end on the 31 December 2020, regardless of whether a deal has been struck or not, and the UK would wake up on 1 January 2021 either completely free of all ties to the EU or with a deal in place. Outrage as New ‘Coronavirus’ Treatment Comes with a Hefty Price Tag of Up to Almost €4,000: Remdesivir is the drug created by the American pharmaceutical company Gilead, who announced that governments in developed countries could expect to pay $390 for a vial, which would equate to around €2,082 per patient and longer therapies could cost up to €3,818. Hospitals have been using this medication, which was donated by Gilead since May, but they will begin charging for their services in July. Remdesivir is the first drug approved by the European Medicine Agency as a Covid-19 remedy. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry back groups calling for a Fakebook boycott: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are backing the campaign #StopHateForProfit, which is calling for major companies to pull their advertising campaigns from Facebook until the social media giant takes action to stop the spread of so-called hate speech. Shares in the platform went crashing 8.3 percent to $216.08 by the closing bell last Friday – its lowest in three months – after more than 100 advertisers boycotted the firm for its failure to stop content perceived as hate speech and misinformation being posted on its platform. EU delays decision on border reopening: The EU cannot agree on a list of “safe countries” from where travellers could visit Europe in July, with some member states requiring more time to decide, diplomats said Saturday.
After days of talks, EU envoys on Friday agreed to propose a list of 14 countries to their national governments, with the United States, where the coronavirus is still spreading, to remain excluded. The proposed “safe” list contains just fourteen countries: Algeria, Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, Montenegro, Morocco, New Zealand, Rwanda, Serbia, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia and Uruguay.
“There is no visibility on where this will go, but the presidency still hopes to put this matter to a vote on Monday,” the source added. Source: https://news.yahoo.com/eu-delays-decision-border-reopening-215710221.html?

Microsoft Is Closing All It’s Retail Stores Permanently Due to COVID-19: The memo announcing the change is long on PR-speak, short on actual information. We are told, for example, that “As we look forward, we start a new chapter for Microsoft Store,” and “As part of our business plan, we announced a strategic change in our retail operations,” — a strategic change, you say? How delightful! — “including closing Microsoft Store physical locations.” ?!? This seems less like a strategic change and more like “quitting the retail business.” Ah well. What can you expect from a company statement released primarily on LinkedIn? Tennis News- Davis Cup and Fed Cup postponed until 2021: Neither postponement has come as a surprise, particularly following the chaos caused by the Adria Tour event earlier this month.
Due to be hosted in Madrid, the Davis Cup Finals were supposed to have taken place from November 23-29. With the competition now set to begin on November 22, 2021, it was confirmed the 18 teams that have already qualified for the men’s global team tournament will have their places secured, while the draw for the finals remains the same.
The women’s equivalent, the Fed Cup, has also unsurprisingly hit a similar stumbling block and will now take place from April 13-18. Budapest remains its location and, much like the Davis Cup, the teams that have already qualified will retain their places. The Fed Cup Play-offs will go ahead at the start of February. Brexit Hotline

The service also offers the option of speaking to an operator for those requiring further information or with a specific query not dealt with by the automated options. Source: https://www.thelocal.es/20200218/spain-launches-dedicated-brexit-hotline

Frankenstein the Show: A circus and theatre are merged with a touch of dark humour, backed by live music. June 26 to 28 at the Congress Centre in Granada with performances at 6pm and 9.30pm each night.
With this show we expand the concept of the so-called New Circus, reinforcing the plot and the “Theme of Horror”. We made a fun and rogue, but at the same time emotional, version of Mary Shelley’s magnificent work “Frankenstein” or “The Modern Prometheus”. A different way of telling this well-known story through Humor and Acrobatics.
We will transfer the spectator to a fantastic world from the same entrance door of the theater / venue and we will make him forget everything during the two hours of entertainment that our “Show” offers. A stage proposal where the most intense moments of the original novel and the funniest of the versions that have been seen throughout all these years in cinema and theaters are mixed, all wrapped in a fantasy aesthetic inspired by the wonderful mind from the filmmaker “Tim Burton”.

Free photo tutorials: During lockdown I came across an old memory stick holding tutorials from photography workshops I used to run in Ireland. I had the idea -and the time – to adapt them for anyone who’d like to improve their photography. Rather than post them to Facebook where things tend to disappear, I started adding them, last night, to a blog on my website with each post appearing as a link on my Facebook Page.
I don’t know if anyone out there is interested, but it’s free, so why not? They can be accessed through the Photography Tutorials tab at https://georgemunday.art/ or via my Facebook Page at FB link

Computers are getting more expensive, and here’s why: The world-wide personal computer industry saw another quarterly decline in sales during the second quarter, as price hikes caused by memory chip scarcity scared some consumers away. While companies could not raise prices too quickly on computers sold to businesses, especially at large enterprises where contracts lock in prices, consumers are reportedly seeing higher price tags.
Some companies are also adding less memory, stripping down the specifications of the system and instead installing smaller amounts of DRAM at prices that would have covered larger memory modules in the past.
At a meeting in February, an executive at chip giant Intel Corp. showed a slide indicating that average selling prices for PCs have climbed steadily since 2014. The recent move appears more significant. “Vendors raise the price for both new and existing models,” she said. “For instance, a model A used to be $500, but the same model A with same configuration is now $550.” (Also, all computers are in short supply, most popular models on Amazon are sold out and cannot restock due to COVID-19 interrupting delivery routes. -Ed.) Experts warn against relaxing safety measures as coronavirus outbreaks spread in Spain: The country recorded its highest number of new daily infections in three weeks, and there is concern an increasingly cavalier attitude towards the pandemic could lead to a second wave. The report from the Spanish Health Ministry on Wednesday showed the highest number of new daily infections in three weeks: 196, without taking into account the figures from Castilla-La Mancha, which could not be added due to technical problems. One has to go back to June 3 to find a worse number: 219. And in Andalusia, authorities are investigating two potential outbreaks in Granada and Huelva. Officials have reported five active clusters across the southern region. UPDATE- Which airlines have scheduled flights from the UK to Spain from July?: Since Spain brought forward the date of the opening of the country’s borders to EU tourists to June 21st (instead of the initially set date of July 1st), airlines have announced changes to their summer flight schedules. Social Security in Spain Agrees to Extend Aid for Freelances Past June 30: According to sources close to the negotiators, the extension of this benefit, which equates to around 70 per cent of the regulatory base (around €661 for those contributing the minimum base) will be available for an additional three months, until September 30. Source: https://www.euroweeklynews.com/2020/06/25/social-security-in-spain-agrees-to-extend-aid-for-freelances-past-june-30/#.XvUah-dS-00

Spain’s ombudsman slams airlines for still not reimbursing passengers for cancelled flights: In their letter to the government, Spain’s national ombudsman explains how they’ve received “numerous complaints” from disgruntled passengers who say airlines’ “websites have been set up in such a way that it’s impossible to apply for a money refund”. Other airlines are offering airmiles and other vouchers that don’t cover the cost of the flight as well as carrying out “numerous” other illicit practices, the letter signed by head ombudsman Francisco Fernández Marugán states. ‘The money’s gone’- Wirecard collapses owing $4 billion: Wirecard, a German payment processor and financial services provider collapsed on Thursday owing creditors almost $4 billion after disclosing a gaping hole in its books that its auditor EY said was the result of a sophisticated global fraud. Creditors have scant hope of getting back the 3.5 billion euros they are owed, sources familiar with the matter said. Of that total, Wirecard has borrowed 1.75 billion from 15 banks and issued 500 million in bonds.
“The money’s gone,” said one banker. “We may recoup a few euros in a couple of years but will write off the loan now.” Full story: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-wirecard-accounts/the-moneys-gone-wirecard-collapses-owing-4-billion-idUSKBN23W176

Political Correctness Foolishness: Unilever to drop terms like ‘whitening’ from beauty products. Consumer products giant Unilever said Thursday it is aiming for a “more inclusive vision of beauty” in its skin care products and will remove words such as “fair,” “whitening” and “lightening” from its products, a move that comes amid intense global debate about race. (What about teeth-whitening toothpaste, another Unilever product? Is “whitening” or even “lightening” your teeth now considered racist? I don’t imagine “teeth un-yellowing” toothpaste would be any more acceptable. What the heck are you supposed to call it? -Ed.) Full story: https://apnews.com/f251355cc76e208c9d0e514dfb9c0a0d

Microsoft Confirms June Windows 10 Update Could Trigger Reboots – No Fix Available Right Now: This month’s Patch Tuesday Windows 10 update has managed to bring in quite a few issues, including some that have now been acknowledged by Microsoft. After releasing an out-of-band fix for the printing issue, the Windows maker has now confirmed that some users might experience crashes due to a failure in the Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (LSASS) file, lsass.exe.
The Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (LSASS) file (lsass.exe) might fail on some devices with the error message, “A critical system process, C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe, failed with status code c0000008. The machine must now be restarted.”
Microsoft hasn’t shared any workaround, but added that it is working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release. Source: https://wccftech.com/microsoft-confirms-june-windows-10-update-could-crash-systems/

Malwarebytes Blamed for Windows 10 v2004 Update Reports of Massive Performance Issues And Crashes: The complaints can be found in numerous reports in the Malwarebytes support forums since the release of Windows 10 version 2004. These issues range from general slowness, video stuttering, blue screen of death (BSOD) crashes to frozen systems where Windows 10 stops responding. As it turns out, however, the problem is with the installed Malwarebytes version 4.1.
The problem was solved by disabling the “Ransomware Protection” function of Malwarebytes. Therefore, there is already beta version 4.1.1.71, which corrects the error or in which the error does not appear. The beta can be obtained via the settings. To do this, select Settings> General> Beta updates and set the slider to activate there. Then you search for a new version. When the beta is displayed, you install it.

Safe form of ultraviolet light kills airborne coronavirus: Ceiling fixtures emitting a safe form of ultraviolet light called far-UVC would be very efficient at killing airborne coronaviruses, according to a study by researchers at Columbia University. “A very low exposure to far-UVC light killed well over 99.9% of the exposed virus,” lead researcher Dr. David Brenner told Reuters.
The idea would be to install overhead far-UVC lights in public locations, where they would be “continuously killing microbes, including the COVID-19 virus – and so limiting the spread of the virus,” Brenner said, adding that far-UVC manufacturers are already ramping up production. “We don’t see far-UVC light as an alternative to masks and social distancing,” Brenner said. “We see it as a new extra weapon that we can use in the battle against COVID-19.”

Can tenants ask for a monthly rent reduction if the community pool is not opened?: {DISCLAIMER- THIS IS FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY AND IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE, ALWAYS CONSULT A LAWYER FOR LEGAL ADVICE.} The OCU Consumer Organization has produced a guide with practical information for both owners and tenants affected by this decision.
In the case of tenants, if the use of the pool is contemplated in the rental, the inability to access it could be considered a partial breach of the lease. Although it is true that the lessee is obliged to bear the decision to close the pool, it is no less so that, when the closure responds to a Community decision based on economic reasons, he can request compensation from the lessor for the unavailability of that element, affect from the OCU.
In this situation, the OCU recommends that an agreement be reached between the parties and adds that it considers “adjusted by law that the landlord agrees to a temporary reduction of the rent to his tenant” due to the lack of availability of the pool. Also, if the pool is to remain closed, the owner will have a cost savings that will facilitate the agreement.
In case of dispute the final decision would always be in the hands of a judge. Although, OCU does not advise in any case to go to a judicial process for this reason. Instead, it is recommended that the parties reach an agreement, which may consist of lowering the rent or other compensation. As a basis for that agreement, the Organization considers that, by analogy, article 22 of the Urban Leasing Law would apply, which provides compensation for works in the leased home that prevent the tenant from using part of the property, since there is a sudden unavailability of one of the elements included in the rental contract, due to a decision by the Community of owners.
As a guideline, OCU calculates that the rent reduction could be agreed between 10% and 20% during the months of regular use of the pool in which it will be unavailable.

OnLine Stores “FormJacked”: Researchers reported on Monday that hackers are now exploiting Google’s Analytics service to stealthily pilfer credit card information from infected e-commerce sites (online stores).
According to several independent reports from PerimeterX, Kaspersky, and Sansec, threat actors are now injecting data-stealing code on the compromised websites in combination with tracking code generated by Google Analytics for their own account, letting them exfiltrate payment information entered by users even in conditions where content security policies are enforced for maximum web security.
As a customer, unfortunately, there isn’t much you can do to safeguard yourself from formjacking attacks. But it’s essential that you watch out for any instances of unauthorized purchases or identity theft. Full details: https://thehackernews.com/2020/06/google-analytics-hacking.html
