NOTICE!
Submissions for posting in sections below
must be signed like this or they will be returned !!!
Sender's First Name / Nearest Town

NOTE: YOU MAY ADDITIONALLY INCLUDE A LOCATION TO MEET OR PICKUP,
BUT YOUR LOCATION IS REQUIRED IN ANY CASE. Simply saying "for collection in Town" is NOT sufficient. Your location, and the collection location may not be the same place.
If selling an item from a location different from where you reside, you must include both.

For example: "...Buyer collects in Nerja, John/Malaga"
Why? DigameXtra covers a large area. So, for example, readers in Motril are unlikely to make recommendations, or call about most for-sale items, if they know you are located in Coin. As for including both locations in for-sale posts, the buyer needs to know where to collect the item, but they will also want to know where you are from in case there is a problem. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Requirements and how to apply for the social electricity voucher announced by the Government: {Translation}
– The new package approved yesterday by the Government as a complement to the Plan Más Seguridad Energética has included an increase for the thermal and electricity social vouchers included in the plan.
– This includes new discounts on electricity bills of up to 40% for 1.5 million low-income households. In addition, the social voucher, which 1.3 million households already benefit from, has been increased.
– Depending on the level of income, consumers will be classified as “vulnerable” or “severely vulnerable” if the consumer or consumer unit has an annual income equal to or less than 50% of these thresholds. Those on the minimum living income will also be “severely vulnerable”. Large families, pensioners or other special circumstances contemplated by the administration (disability, victims of gender violence, victims of terrorism…) are also subject to greater discounts.
– The bono social can be applied for in person at the electricity company’s offices or by telephone, e-mail, online or by post. The application form must be filled in and documentation must be submitted if necessary. ANDALUCIA

Andalusia allows barbecues in the countryside despite temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius:
{Translation, summary} 19/10/2022 05:30h
– Barbecues are back in the mountains and in the recreational areas of Andalusia that have been set up for this purpose. Since 16 October it has been possible to carry out this type of activity throughout the Autonomous Community of Andalusia, which is surprising given that maximum temperatures are still around 30 degrees Celsius and fires can still be lit. As the weather is still dry, experts question the decision of the Andalusian Regional Ministry of Sustainability to lift this restriction with the end of the high fire risk campaign. COSTA DEL SOL

Costa del Sol Hospital slips six places in the ranking of those with the best reputations in Spain:
– The Clínico Virgen de la Victoria hospital in Malaga is high on the list of the best hospitals in Spain in 2022, as it is now in 21st place. It has moved up ten places since the last medical reputation monitor was drawn up by Merco, which was for 2020.
– The Regional Hospital in Malaga, which used to be called the Carlos Haya, is in 25th place but this is nine below its previous 16th position. The Costa del Sol Hospital in Marbella has also dropped slightly, from 61st on the list to 67th.
– The ranking is created from the votes of doctors, nurses, patients associations, managers and health journalists, and it measures the quality and clinical management of the hospitals.
– The first five on the list are La Paz (Madrid), Clínic de Barcelona, Gregorio Marañón (Madrid), 12 de Octubre (Madrid) and Vall D’Hebron (Barcelona). In Andalucía the Virgen del Rocío hospital in Seville is highest, in eighth place, followed by the Reina Sofía in Cordoba (12th), the Virgen Macarena in Seville (13th) and San Cecilio in Granada (19th). GRANADA

Twelve municipalities of Granada are in a situation of severe poverty: {Translation}
– A total of 12 municipalities in the province of Granada are in a situation of severe poverty. This is reflected in the twelfth State of Poverty Report 2022 and published on the World Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
– These dozen towns have in common a poverty threshold of just more than 40% of the national median income. Three of them – Guadahortuna (53.3%), Darro (51.4%) and Montejícar (50.2%) – exceed 50% while the rest, in that order, are Fuente Vaqueros (48.4%), Iznalloz (48%), Deifontes (45.6%), Fonelas (44.1%), Pinos Puente (43.8%), Benalúa (43.1%), Villanueva de las Torres (43.1%), Colomera (42.7%) and Benalúa de las Villas (42.7%).
– The report also highlights the wage gap between men and women, which in the province of Granada remains at 17.8% despite the 10% drop (from 29.89 points to 19.98) in female unemployment between 2020 and 2021. According to the data, women earn on average 2,596 euros less per year than men.
– The school dropout rate in Granada stood at 21.8% in 2020, which is in line with the Andalusian average, but above the national average of 16%. Putin decrees martial law in ‘annexed’ Ukraine regions: The move tightens Kremlin control over Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia. Putin didn’t immediately spell out the steps that would be taken under martial law, but said his order would be effective starting Thursday. Draft legislation indicates it may involve restrictions on travel and public gatherings, tighter censorship and broader authority for law enforcement agencies. TRAVEL NEWS

British Business Travellers Are Being Turned Back From EU Countries for Breaching Post-Brexit Travel Rules:
– British business travellers are being turned back from European countries for going against post-Brexit movement, and these restrictions will be applied more rigorously once the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) is introduced in November next year.
– “There has been a big impact. There is now a requirement for UK nationals to obtain a work permit if they are going to be doing productive work; productive work is essentially anything beyond attending a meeting,” EMEA advisory services manager for immigration and visa consultancy Newland Chase, Ben Sookia, pointed out in this regard.
– “Each country has its own immigration rules. Denmark is a good example. If we send a model to Denmark and they declare at the border they are there for a modelling job, Denmark will immediately send them back to the UK. They will detain them until the next flight. We’ve had one issue with a two-year ban on going back to Denmark, which covers going into the entire Schengen area,” he pointed out, as reported by BTN Europe. Civil Protection tests the mobile phone civil alert systems in Andalucia Monday, 24 October: {Translation, summary}
– The Directorate General for Civil Protection will carry out tests in several autonomous communities of the new ‘ES-Alert’ system for alerting the public, which will send warnings directly to the mobile phones of citizens affected by a possible emergency or catastrophe.
– During the test schedule, a test beep will sound on some mobile phones with a message announcing that it is a test and warning citizens that they do not have to do anything in particular. The test is intended to ensure that the systems are working properly.
– Specifically, the tests will begin on 24 October in the autonomous communities of Cantabria, Andalusia and Asturias; they will continue on 27 October in Extremadura, Valencia and Galicia; on 2 November in Murcia, the Balearic Islands, Madrid, Aragon, Navarre and Catalonia; on 10 November in the Basque Country, Castile and Leon, the Canary Islands and Ceuta and will conclude on 16 November in Castile-La Mancha, La Rioja and Melilla. HEALTH

Top cardiologist ties ‘unexpected’ deaths, collapses to COVID shot:
– A top London cardiologist who was one of the first to take the COVID-19 vaccine and promote it on British television is warning his colleagues and the public he has evidence tying the incidences around the world of “unexpected” cardiac events in otherwise healthy people to the COVID-19 vaccines.
– Dr. Aseem Malhotra made the statement in a video posted on Twitter ahead of his scheduled testimony Thursday to the British Parliament. “It is my duty and responsibility as a consultant cardiologist and public health campaigner to urgently inform doctors, patients and members of the public that the COVID mRNA vaccine has likely played a significant role of being a primary cause in all unexpected cardiac arrests, heart attacks, strokes, cardiac arrhythmias and heart failure since 2021, until proven otherwise,” he said.
– An internationally renowned expert in the prevention, diagnosis and management of heart disease, Malhotra is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and president of the Scientific Advisory Committee of The Public Health Collaboration. He also is an honorary council member to the Metabolic Psychiatry Clinic at Stanford University School of Medicine.
– In an interview, he explained that it was the sudden death of his very fit and healthy 73-year-old vaccinated father in July 2021 that prompted him to investigate the vaccines.
– “Not long after that, data started to emerge that suggested there was a possible link between the mRNA vaccine and increased risk of heart attack,” he told Freeman Reports.
– The mechanism causing the cardiac trouble, he said, was an increasing inflammation around the coronary arteries. On top of that, Malhotra was contacted by a whistleblower at a prestigious British university, a cardiologist, who said there were similar research findings in his department that were being covered up.
– Malhotra said he discovered, from his examination of U.K. data, there had been an extra 14,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests in 2021, when the vaccine was rolled out, compared to 2020.

The Bio Beach Restaurant U3A Lectures Present: Book Signing on Wed. Nov. 9th at 11am with U3A Author Norma Kira Masip.
– Chocolate Moon, A Life from Darkness to Light.  COVID wasn’t over so I dove into my personal memoirs, started back in 1984 in Honolulu and finally sent out to print in December 2020. It covers pre-birth through my years in Hawaii.  Due to COVID, the 200 Chocolate Moon copies laid dormant until now… Synopsis of Chocolate Moon: Born during WWII in France, my tender years were far from conventional. My Catalan parents, political refugees having fled in 1939 from the Spanish Civil War, were held in a Concentration Camp in Argeles-Sur-Mer. Raised and educated in France, I pursued my higher education after I migrated to The USA in my teens. I eventually settled in the magical State of Hawaii, where I raised two sons. The highs and the lows of my quest have been sweetened by a number of caring and supportive individuals, some with unconditional love, and many featured in my memoirs. It is with a grateful heart that I published Chocolate Moon – A Life from Darkness to Light in July 2020. Copies of Chocolate Moon are available in Bio Beach Restaurant (20€).
– So Close: A true story, So Close presents a dear friend being in love with a prisoner.  So Close Synopsis: Nadia, a dedicated and successful social worker, falls in love with Pasco, a prisoner serving life in prison for murder. Pasco convinces Nadia that he is innocent of the crime.  The portrayal of the lives of these two individuals takes the reader through uncharted ethnic, cultural and social situations that eventually bring light into the convoluted story. This thrilling tale, parts of it filtered through the lens of Nadia’s best friend Kira, is based on a true story. Copies of So Close are available in Bio Beach Restaurant (10€).
– Notes:
1) For this book signing special, I’m offering both for 25€.
2) These U3A lectures are free, just order refreshments from Bio Beach. We belong to U3A, (http://www.u3aaxarquia.com/) and these social, educational, and stimulating mornings are presented in an effort to attract more members. Bio Beach Restaurant is located on the El Morche beachfront promenade (right behind the church). We look forward to seeing you there! For more info contact norma2kk@aol.com

Why? DigameXtra covers a large area. So, for example, readers in Motril are unlikely to make recommendations, or call about most for-sale items, if they know you are located in Coin. DoctorLaptop’s Computer Repairs & Services: Have your computer properly maintained with an annual professional servicing to keep it clean, running cool and thus extend its life. You don’t wait till your car engine freezes before you change your oil, now do you? If you do, the repair costs far more than the oil changes you skipped. It’s the same with computers. An inexpensive annual maintenance service is far cheaper than waiting until the device is annoyingly slow and popping up error messages, and thus in need of an expensive repair. Today’s malware and spyware wants to collect your data, not break or slow down your machine. Just because your computer is running OK does not mean it is free of malware and trackers. Infected computers can provide vital info to identity thieves & bank account hackers. Protect your computer & your privacy with annual servicing. My working hours are 2pm to 8pm, Monday thru Friday. The Doctor is closed on weekends. Saturday pickups are possible by appointment. I don’t answer the phone before 12pm, missed calls will be returned that afternoon. Always include the patient’s make and model number when making support requests. DoctorLaptop’s Website & Contact Info: doctorlaptop@protonmail.com or call 675 993 069 after 12pm, missed calls returned asap. My contact details are shown every day in the Sponsor’s Section.

News & Articles

{ Translations by www.DeepL.com/Translator }

Editor’s Note: The Spanish news today is dominated with articles related to the new national budget, and its many problems. I included some rather long article translations today, as these topics are crucial to understanding the economic crisis we are all suffering thru. I will return to focusing on more local news tomorrow. – Ed.

COVID & MONKEYPOX

Andalucia active cases of monkeypox down to 18: {Translation, summary} 18/10/2022, 14:52
– Andalusia continues to reduce the number of active cases of monkeypox, which now stands at 18, one less than last Friday (19), and has a further 56 cases under investigation. In addition, 1,990 people have already been vaccinated as at-risk contacts of patients who have tested positive for the disease.
– Thus, in the statement released on Tuesday, the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs specifies that the province of Seville has once again registered the most cases, with a total of six, followed by Cadiz with four; Almeria with three; Granada and Malaga, with two respectively; Cordoba with one; and Huelva and Jaen with none.
– In addition, there are 56 cases under investigation that have been declared to the Andalusian Epidemiological Surveillance System Network (SVEA), while 858 previously confirmed cases are already inactive. SPAIN

Pedro Sánchez insists there will be no “drastic” measures such as blackouts, while hiding the details: {Translation, summary} 18/10/2022, 16:34
(Editor’s Note: Remember, this is the same guy who recently sponsored an Energy Relief Bill but refused to discuss most of the measures it contained! The few measures he has disclosed are of limited effect on the average individual, train ticket discounts for mid to long distance commuters being the benefit he promotes when cornered for an answer. Congress is demanding answers, but Sanchez keeps dodging the questions. Congress will meet at 4pm Tuesday in an attempt to get some solid answers, but only after the Council of Ministers has approved the economic measures bill that Pedro Sánchez announced last Thursday in Congress.  He claims he requested this appearance to explain the measures, but it is foreseeable that other political issues will come up as a distraction, such as the new balance of power in Catalonia after the departure of JxCAT from the Government, as well as the renewal of the CGPJ and the Constitutional Court and the war in Ukraine, allowing Sanchez once again, to outrageously hide the measures from the public and their representatives! Down south here we don’t see much public reaction, but up north the citizens are protesting loudly. Ref: https://www.20minutos.es/noticia/5069457/0/sanchez-y-feijoo-protagonizan-un-nuevo-cara-a-cara-en-el-senado-en-medio-de-la-negociacion-del-cgpj/ )
– The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has acknowledged that the coming months “are not going to be easy”, but has insisted that “no drastic measures are going to be adopted”, as “there are not going to be blackouts, rationing or any of those apocalyptic scenes predicted by the creators of hoaxes”.
– For this reason, he said that citizens “can rest assured” that the government is preparing “for all eventualities” that may occur in the coming months, which he assures will depend on whether or not Russian President Vladimir Putin “decides to close the gas pipelines”, on the “effectiveness” of the measures adopted and on “how hard the winter will be”. (Cleverly providing himself an excuse in advance, should his claims turn out wrong. -Ed.)
– The president insisted that Spain is heading in “the right direction” and was confident that inflation will be corrected next year, despite the fact that the context is complex and there is uncertainty. Sánchez stated that he does not want to “sugarcoat the situation” but neither does he want to fall into “defeatism” and affirmed: “We are going to overcome this crisis”. Source, Spanish:

A blow to the budget- Airef sees “notable shortcomings” in the bill and criticizes the lack of facts provided: {Translation, summary}
– The Airef has endorsed the draft General State Budget (PGE) that the Government approved a fortnight ago, but sees “notable shortcomings” in accounts that, according to its criteria, are “flawed” and increasingly have “less informative quality”.
– “We have been presented budgets that have a series of shortcomings as an instrument of economic policy,” said Herrero. Among these shortcomings, he highlighted their “increasingly poorer quality of information”, something that makes it difficult for the fiscal watchdog to supervise them. “Its accountability function is weakened”, he added.
– In a highly critical analysis of the public accounts, Herrero conceded that uncertainty “does not make budget planning easy”, but called on the government to “exercise realism” in the accounts. Among the most resounding criticisms, the Airef believes that the revenue forecasts for 2022 “are not realistic”.
– Furthermore, the Airef rejects the fact that the budgets do not include the foreseeable extension of the package of anti-inflation measures, especially judging by the budget plan sent last Saturday to Brussels, which includes two fiscal scenarios, one of which does include an eventual extension of the anti-inflationary shock plan.
– The president of the fiscal authority also denounced the lack of “a rebalancing plan” for the public accounts after three years in which the debt and deficit rules have been suspended due to the exceptional circumstances brought about by the pandemic and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Source, Spanish: https://www.20minutos.es/noticia/5069458/0/varapalo-a-los-presupuestos-la-airef-ve-carencias-notables-en-las-cuentas-y-reprocha-su-falta-de-calidad-informativa/

Circular Failure of Logic- The Gov’t To Fund Energy Discounts to Customers by Charging Customers New Energy Tariffs?: This article is too long and convoluted for me to translate here. Basically it exposes the lie that the Sanchez gov’t is funding public aid, that in reality it is charging the public new fees to pay for. For those that are interested, see Spanish source:

Vox party warns that the AIReF and the Bank of Spain expose the Government “lies” in the PGEs (budget forecasts known as Presupuestos Generales del Estado): {Translation}
– Vox believes that the draft General State Budget (PGE) for 2023 presented by the Government is already flawed, with a revenue forecast for next year that does not correspond to reality, according to warnings from entities such as the Bank of Spain and the Independent Authority for Fiscal Responsibility (AIReF).
– Spokesman for Vox in Congress, Iván Espinosa de los Monteros, confirmed that his parliamentary group will present a full amendment to the accounts presented by the Executive, which he defined as “the Budget of propaganda, clientelist networks and the brake on economic recovery”.
– Espinosa de los Monteros referred to the words of the president of AIReF, Cristina Herrero, denouncing “information deficiencies” that affect 1.2 billion euros in the draft budget, to which the Bank of Spain has added, she said.
– “Both coincide in pointing out that Spain’s economic growth next year is nothing like what the Government says,” she said, explaining that the “consequences” are an increase in the public deficit and therefore in the State’s debt.
– Vox therefore rejects these “wasteful” Budgets, which it believes “do not help” to alleviate the “disastrous” economic situation that Spain is going through and with which the Executive “spends savings like never before”, maintaining “waste” in the “unproductive, redundant and unnecessary” structure of the State.
– Furthermore, Espinosa de los Monteros denounced the fact that this increase in spending is not destined to finance public services, but rather to fund items for the Ministry of Equality (This is the progressive Ministry pushing the radical feminist, trans and sex education for elementary school agendas, among other questionable goals. To be fair, they do a good job advocating for the disabled. -Ed.). As for the revaluation of pensions, she agreed that they need “relief”, but criticised the fact that the Government is taking the decision now as an “electioneering” measure and without it being accompanied by a “drastic” reduction in political spending.
*POLITICAL PROPAGANDA WITH ELECTIONS IN MIND*
– In his opinion, all the government’s actions are based on “political propaganda”, with an eye to the regional and municipal elections in May next year, and “will not alleviate the social majority who are suffering from the economic and energy crisis”.
– Vox has presented an initiative to inform and simplify the electricity bill and is calling for a referendum on energy sovereignty. According to Espinosa, the question they would ask citizens would be “whether they want to continue with the climate dogmas that have led to the most expensive bill in history or whether they prefer Spain to be able to explore and exploit its own resources”. According to Espinosa, no country in the world “has shot itself in the foot” by vetoing the exploitation of its natural resources, and Spaniards should make a statement on the matter. ANDALUCIA

More than 3.2 million people in Andalucía are at risk of poverty and social exclusion:
– A total of 3.27 million people in Andalucía – 38.7% of the population – are at risk of poverty and social exclusion, according to the latest report from the Andalusian Network for Fighting Poverty and Social Exclusion (EAPN-Andalucia) which provides statistics for 2021.
– This is an increase of 1.8 points compared with 2020, and means that 157,294 more people now find themselves in this precarious situation. In absolute terms, 2.7 million people are currently living in poverty in the region. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/andalucia/poverty-report-20221018094053-nt.html

UK

When could blackouts happen in UK? Exact time of day a 3 hour planned power blackout could occur this winter:
– The head of the UK’s electricity and gas systems’ operator has outlined the “worst case scenario” which could see UK households facing three-hour blackouts this winter. National Grid boss John Pettigrew said blackouts would have to be imposed in the “deepest darkest evenings” in January and February if electricity generators did not have enough gas to meet demand, particularly if there is a bout of cold weather.
– Pettigrew has told households to prepare for blackouts between 4pm and 7pm on weekdays during “really, really cold” days in January and February if gas imports are reduced. The National Grid boss said he is confident this will not be the case, but added: “In the context of the terrible things that are going on in Ukraine and the consequences of that [it was] right that we set out what some of the potential risks could be.” Full article: https://www.nationalworld.com/news/uk/blackouts-uk-this-winter-2022-time-3-hour-planned-power-blackout-3883812

EUROPE

Russia destroys power and water infrastructure across Ukraine:
– Russia has destroyed almost a third of Ukraine’s power stations in the past week, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Tuesday, as Moscow rained more missiles down on infrastructure in what Kyiv and the West call a campaign to intimidate civilians.
– Missiles struck power stations in the capital Kyiv where they killed three people, and in Kharkiv in the east, Dnipro and Kryvyi Rih in the south and Zhytomyr in the west, causing blackouts and knocking out water supplies.
– Russia has openly acknowledged targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure with waves of missile and drone strikes since the start of last week, in what President Vladimir Putin said was legitimate retaliation for a blast on a bridge.
– “Since Oct 10, 30% of Ukraine’s power stations have been destroyed, causing massive blackouts across the country,” Zelenskiy wrote on Twitter. Photo: Valentyn Ogirenko. European Police Arrest a Gang That Hacked Wireless Key Fobs to Steal Cars: Law enforcement authorities in France, in collaboration with Spain and Latvia, have disrupted a cybercrime ring that leveraged a hacking tool to steal cars without having to use a physical key fob. “The criminals targeted vehicles with keyless entry and start systems, exploiting the technology to get into the car and drive away,” Europol said in a press statement. Eurojust, in an independent press release, noted that the organized crime group “used fraudulent software to steal vehicles by duplicating the vehicles’ ignition keys,” adding “more than €100 million, as well as 12 bank accounts, real estate, and 3 luxury cars were seized in France.” Full article: https://thehackernews.com/2022/10/european-police-arrest-gang-that-hacked.html

TRAVEL NEWS

Rail travelers angry, available seats on Madrid-Malaga AVE high-speed trains are few to nil and very expensive, despite large investments of EU recovery funds, and despite President Sanchez’ claims of improved, cheaper train services to compensate citizens for inflation and encourage “Green travel”:
– Spain’s national rail operator Renfe says it is doing what it can to alleviate the problem but several factors are out of its control.
– For example next Sunday, 23 October, only one of the trains from Malaga’s María Zambrano station to Madrid Atocha has any seats available, and the fare would be 101.75 euros.
– On Friday, anyone wanting to come from Madrid to the Costa del Sol will find that five of the 11 trains are fully booked and fares start at 93.30 euros.
– One reason that travellers are angry is that this problem seems only to affect the Malaga service. For example, none of the high-speed trains from Madrid to Valencia this Friday are fully booked, and from Madrid to Alicante just one of the 13 trains is full. US “Ally” Expresses Desire To Join BRICS Economic Group (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa):
– The Saudi / South Africa talks came amid a row between Riyadh and Washington over OPEC’s decision to cut production quotas by 2 million barrels a day. US President Joe Biden last week threatened Saudi Arabia with unspecified “consequences” and accused the longtime ally of siding with Russia in the Ukraine crisis. US lawmakers have called for cutting off cooperation with Saudi Arabia, such as halting arms sales or withdrawing military support.
– Saudi Prince Saud al-Shaalan responded angrily on Saturday, warning Western leaders not to threaten the kingdom. “Anybody that challenges the existence of this country and this kingdom, all of us, we are projects of jihad, and martyrdom. That’s my message to anybody that thinks that he can threaten us.” Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman said Saudi leaders were “astonished” by false US accusations that Riyadh is standing with Russia against Ukraine.
– Russia, China and other BRICS members are reportedly developing a new global reserve currency, potentially undermining the dominance of the US dollar. The addition of Saudi Arabia to the bloc would have potentially far-reaching implications, given that the dollar’s strength stems partly from its status as the dominant currency in international oil markets. Saudi Arabia has reportedly considered selling crude in Chinese yuan.
– The group, which is named for member states Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, is scheduled to meet next year in Johannesburg for its annual summit. Expansion prospects will likely be high on the agenda, as the bloc is expected to consider adding such nations as Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt and Algeria. Andalusia to vaccinate 12 year olds against papilloma from this January, girls & boys: {Translation}
– Andalusia will vaccinate 12-year-olds against papilloma. It will do so, explained the president of the Junta, Juanma Moreno, from 1 January 2023, in two and a half months’ time. The treatment was already being administered to young girls, as the Andalusian president recalled, and now it will also seek to protect the 47,000 boys who live in the community and were born in 2011, so they will now be 12 years old.
– The community is launching this treatment “because we want to make a vaccination calendar as broad and extensive as possible in Andalusia and to do it as we are doing, progressively, and attending to the pathologies that we are finding”, said Moreno.
– According to the Andalusian president, the same preparation will be used for boys as for girls, the Gardasil 9 vaccine, which “will serve to prevent the diseases caused by this virus”. Because, Moreno stressed, papilloma is a disease that has grown in recent years in the community, something that the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) wants to tackle.
– In this way, the application of the vaccine, Moreno estimated, will have a positive impact on Andalusia’s health accounts because it will mean “a saving of 345 euros for each child vaccinated for Andalusian families”. (How does that work??? -Ed.)
– Following on from this announcement, Moreno recalled that, from 2020, Andalusia has incorporated meningitis and influenza for children aged between six months and four years into the community’s vaccination schedule. “I can say without fear of contradiction that Andalusia is one of the regions with the most complete vaccination schedule in Europe,” said the Andalusian president.
***Lesions and cancer***
– The Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), according to the Regional Ministry of Health, “is currently the most common sexually transmitted infection worldwide, with 8 out of 10 people becoming infected during their lifetime”. Its effects can range from benign skin lesions – warts – in the genital area to cancer. In fact, according to the Health Department, in Europe “one out of every three people with HPV-related cancer is a man”.
– The vaccine that will be given to 12-year-old boys is the same one that has been given to girls since 2007. Gardasil 9, according to the department headed by Catalina García, is “the most complete” as it “offers protection against 90 percent of the types of papillomavirus circulating in Spain”. VW’s Dieselgate Update- Ruling annulling a “dieselgate” car purchase contract could lead to 700,000 lawsuits throughout Spain: {Translation}
– A dealer in Ibi (Alicante) will have to refund a customer the money he paid for his Audi A4 because it was affected by the so-called “dieselgate”, the Volkswagen emissions scandal.
– This is the first time that a court has declared a vehicle purchase contract null and void on the basis of the ruling of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU).
– Previously a Madrid judge ordered Volkswagen to pay 16 million euros in ‘dieselgate’ fines.
– Volkswagen only offered a keyring and a cap to those affected by ‘dieselgate’, according to OCU.
– The Court of First Instance and Instruction number 1 of Ibi has declared the nullity of the sale of an Audi A4 sold in Alicante. And it obliges the dealer who sold the vehicle to return to the buyer the 34,440 euros he paid 10 years ago for the vehicle. A vehicle affected by the so-called “dieselgate” case, in which Volkswagen installed software in vehicles capable of modifying the results of emissions measurements and thus concealing the fact that, in reality, the level of pollution they produced was well above the legally established levels.
– The judgment admits that it has been “duly accredited that the plaintiff’s vehicle emitted more polluting gases than those that the Volkswagen Group accredited for its homologation, so that the plaintiff had to go repeatedly to the dealer’s workshops to have repairs carried out”. It also admits that the seller did not act in good faith:
– The Agrupación de Afectados por Volkswagen will use this ruling to ask for a refund of the price of the vehicle from its more than 4,000 affected customers, which in the Valencia region amount to 100,000, a good part of the estimated 700,000 that could be claimed throughout Spain, according to its lawyer, Sergio Méler, as the deadline has not expired.
***Class action next month***
– For all these reasons, the ruling considers “to declare the contract of sale dated 28 February 2010 null and void due to a defect in the consent of the plaintiff, restoring the parties to the situation prior to the effects of the contract, with the return of the goods and price, all with the imposition of the defendant of the costs incurred”.
– A class action lawsuit against the Volkswagen Group that will start next month, claiming the nullity of the contracts of the affected vehicles, starting with the SEAT brand.
– Alberto Rey, President of the Agrupación de Afectados por Volkswagen, wanted to remind that all buyers of these vehicles, whether first or second-hand, whether or not they have been repaired, can now request the nullity of the contract and the return of the money invested in the vehicle. NOTICE!
Submissions for posting in sections below

SPAIN

Spain Sends 2023 Budget to EU, Projections Based On “Executive Hopes”:
– The EU monitors that Spain meets the requirements for the third payment of funds.
– The Government sent this Saturday to Brussels, at the last possible moment, the budget plan that includes the roadmap that will mark the public accounts for the next financial year.
– It’s a document in which it is once again clear that all the objectives of the Executive are based on hopes that the economic cycle will withstand the current onslaught of inflationary tensions and the energy crisis and that, in turn, this will allow the good evolution to be maintained and the resilience that the labor market has shown so far. The Bank of Spain and the Tax Authority (Airef) are less optimistic. Full article: https://spainsnews.com/the-government-assumes-before-brussels-that-in-2023-it-will-extend-the-anti-crisis-measures/

EU monitors Spain’s compliance for third installment of Recovery Funds, Bloomberg reports next payment may be halted pending compliance: {Translation, summary}
– The offices of the Ministry of Finance were fuming late on Friday afternoon. Firstly, because the cabinet headed by María Jesús Montero was finalising the submission of the 2023 budget plan to Brussels, with a deadline for this Saturday 15 October. And secondly, because of information from the Bloomberg agency, citing European Commission sources, pointing to a possible ‘standstill’ in the disbursement of European funds in view of the evidence that Spain has not fulfilled all the commitments derived from the Recovery Plan.
– Specifically, Brussels is said to have warned the government about the failure to create a mechanism to audit and control the distribution of this money. The Ministry indicates that the fact that this auditing mechanism has not yet been set up does not mean that the funds have been frozen. In fact, Spain has not even requested the next payment to Brussels, with a further 6 billion euros. Source, Spanish: https://www.canarias7.es/economia/bruselas-lanza-aviso-20221014202747-ntrc.html

MADRID

Thousands of pensioners denounce the loss of purchasing power and defend “decent” pensions and wages: {Translation, summary}
– Pensioners from different autonomous communities have demonstrated this Saturday in Madrid to demand the revaluation of pensions with respect to the annual accumulated CPI increase and a minimum pension of 60% of the average salary.
– A total of 15,000 demonstrators, according to figures from the government delegation in Madrid, marched through the streets of Madrid this midday from Plaza de Neptuno to Callao carrying banners with messages such as “Fair pension, now” or “Pension, my right”.
– The spokesman for the General Coordination of Pensioners, Leopoldo Pelayo, criticised the fact that pensioners are “constantly” losing purchasing power and that they are in an “unsustainable” situation, as they are suffering “continuous cuts” by the government.
– Among the different platforms calling the meeting are pensioners’ organisations from Galicia, Andalusia, Extremadura, the Basque Country and Madrid, as well as the Coordinadora Estatal por la Defensa del Sistema Público de Pensiones (Coespe), the Asociación Jubilación Anticipada sin Penalizar (Asjubi40) and the Confederación General del Trabajo (CGT).
The pensioners’ associations denounce the fact that while some communities are lowering taxes, such as wealth tax, minimum and non-contributory pensions are “a misery”.
– In addition to demanding the revaluation of pensions in line with the CPI, they are calling for an audit of the Social Security accounts and expressing their “rejection of the privatisation of the public pension system”. They also recall that pensions lost 3% of purchasing power in 2021 and that salaries and pensions are losing more than six points of purchasing power so far in 2022.
– “The fundamental cause of the increase in prices is not wages or pensions: it is those who, in a monopoly regime, set prices to maintain and increase their scandalous profits”, denounce the protesters.
– “We will continue on the streets until we reverse the counter-reforms that are being imposed on us, end the gender gap in wages and pensions, eliminate the penalisation of early pensions with long contribution periods, recover the rights lost in the successive labour and pension reforms, generate an equitable distribution of wealth and improve and guarantee universal and quality public and community services”, they warn. – In the past two years, homeless encampments have exploded in Washington D.C., as both the city and federal governments lifted enforcement measures during the COVID-19 pandemic – and made it a no-brainer for itinerants to lay down roots by providing for their every need, except housing.
– The camps are scattered throughout the district – both on the federal land, where unauthorized camping is technically prohibited, and in city parks, roadway underpasses, and empty lots, where it is allowed on all but private property.
– During a visit this week, The Post planned to stop by five encampments within walking distance of world-famous landmarks like the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, and the U.S. Capitol – but stumbled across three more tent cities along the way. ENERGY CRISIS

Minister Ribera accuses electricity companies of dishonest behaviour in the crisis- “They are not playing fair”: {Translation}
– The third vice-president and minister for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Change, Teresa Ribera, has accused electricity companies of certain “not very honest or deontologically correct” behaviour in the context of the energy crisis.
– “They are not playing as cleanly as they should in a situation like this. In our bill there is a lack of clarity with regard to the explanations of how they calculate certain things”, warned Ribera in an interview published this Sunday by ‘La Razón’.
– In this sense, she assured that there are behaviours of the electricity companies that the government has brought to the attention of the National Commission for Markets and Competition (CNMC) because it believes that “they should be denounced”. Among them, she regretted that “the sales representatives of certain companies, when someone calls to ask, say directly that any increase in the bill is the fault of the Government”.
– Faced with these “lies and falsehoods” that generate “noise” and “doubts” among the population, she hopes that the CNMC will check “whether the rules that the government has approved are applied properly”.
– Ribera recalled that the government’s contingency plan aims to “channel savings among all Spanish actors, from large industry and SMEs to citizens and administrations”. “We do not want there to be any risk of an increase in energy poverty for families and the productive sectors”, she said.
– In this context, she expects “European solutions that allow for a drastic reduction in the price of gas”, so that the need to support families “will be less because bills will be more contained and, therefore, the need for support will be lower”.
– She also ruled out the recommendations of the package of energy saving measures becoming personal obligations. “It allows us to channel savings, it allows us to call on families and social actors to be responsible in their energy consumption, but in no way can we enter into something that would be very complex to articulate, which is to monitor each citizen, each person, with regard to their energy consumption. That would be madness”, he said. (This “madness” is precisely what the World Economic Forum has repeatedly stated is their intention. All individuals will be tracked for their “carbon generation and ecological footprint” and pay new taxes accordingly, by 2030, if the WEF has its way. -Ed.)
– She also added that although “the situation in Europe is complicated, in Spain we will not have to reach the levels of rationing that the countries of central Europe will probably have to deal with”.

Spanish police dismantle Europe’s largest money laundering ‘bank’:
– The gang, which operated out of a restaurant in an industrial park outside Madrid, is believed to have laundered about 300 million euros ($292 million) a year.
– The criminal network, which mainly comprised Syrian and Colombian nationals and began operating in 2020, acted as an informal bank, providing financial services to drug trafficking gangs in more than 20 countries.
– The “bank” used an informal money transfer system popular in the Middle East known as “hawala” which doesn’t require the physical movement of money. Instead, hawala dealers in different locations keep a ledger of credit and debit transactions, allowing money to be passed between traders through a handshake, a piece of paper or on trust. Police said the network also used cryptocurrencies to transfer large sums of money. Full article: https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/spanish-police-dismantle-europes-largest-drug-bank-2022-10-14/

ANDALUCIA

2023 Work Calendar – Up To Nine Long Weekends In Andalusia: {Translation}
– The 2023 working calendar includes a total of 12 national holidays, nine of which will be celebrated jointly throughout Spain, one more than this year, according to a resolution of the Directorate General of Labour published this Friday in the Official State Gazette (BOE). In Andalusia there will be, apart from local holidays, up to nine long weekends.
– Specifically, in 2023 there will be holidays throughout Spain on Friday 6 January (Epiphany of the Lord), 7 April (Good Friday), Monday 1 May (Labour Day), Tuesday 15 August (Assumption of the Virgin), Thursday 12 October (Spanish National Day), Wednesday 1 November (All Saints’ Day), Wednesday 6 December (Spanish Constitution Day), Friday 8 December (Immaculate Conception) and 25 December (Nativity of the Lord).
– There are other common public holidays that the autonomous communities can move to another day. This has been the case with Thursday 6 April (Maundy Thursday), which will be a public holiday throughout Spain except in Valencia and Catalonia, but not with Friday 6 January, Epiphany, which all the autonomous communities have decided to maintain.
– Among the powers granted to the autonomous communities is also the possibility of substituting the rest on the Monday following the national holidays that coincide on a Sunday with the incorporation of others that are traditional for them, as well as the option between the celebration of the feast of Saint Joseph (19 March) or that of Saint James the Apostle (25 July) in their corresponding territory.
– Thus, 2 January (the Monday following New Year’s Day) will be a public holiday in Andalusia, Aragon, Asturias, Castile and León and Murcia; Tuesday 25 July (St James’ Day) will only be a public holiday in Castile and León, Galicia, Navarre and the Basque Country, and the Monday following St Joseph’s Day will only be a public holiday in Madrid.
-The list of nine public holidays common to the whole country in 2023 is as follows:
-6 January: Epiphany of the Lord (Friday).
-7 April: Good Friday (Friday).
-1 May: Labour Day (Monday).
-15 August: Assumption of the Virgin Mary (Tuesday).
-12 October: Spanish National Holiday (Thursday).
-1 November: All Saints’ Day (Wednesday).
-6 December: Spanish Constitution Day (Wednesday).
-8 December: Immaculate Conception (Friday).
-25 December: Christmas Day (Monday).
Two regional and two local public holidays must always be added to the national public holidays, making a total of 16 public holidays per year.
– The celebration of several public holidays on Mondays or Fridays, which actually fall on Saturdays and Sundays, will mean that next year there will be some longer weekends than usual in Spain as a whole.
– This is the case with 6 January (Friday); 7 April (Good Friday), 1 May, which in 2023 falls on a Monday; 25 December, which will also be celebrated on a Monday, and 8 December, which will be a Friday and which, added to 6 December (Wednesday), will allow workers who can take Thursday 7 off to enjoy a five-day long weekend.
– In the communities that have opted to celebrate Maundy Thursday (6 April), which is almost all of them, there will be a four-day long weekend. And those workers who can afford to take a day off could extend the weekend by celebrating the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (15 August) on Tuesday and Columbus Day (12 October) on Thursday.
– In Andalusia, 28 February, which falls on a Tuesday, is added to this list.
– In total, Andalusians will be able to enjoy up to nine long weekends in 2023, apart from local holidays. Source, Spanish: https://www.malagahoy.es/economia/Calendario-laboral-semana-largos-Andalucia_0_1729328187.html

MALAGA

Shoppers in Malaga are paying 16 per cent more for food than they did a year ago:
– The latest inflation figures have just been released by the National Institute of Statistics and they do not make pleasant reading. They show that shoppers in Malaga province are paying 16.2% more for basic food items than they did a year ago, which is significantly above the national average (14.4%) and behind only Badajoz (18.6%) and Cuenca (17.7%).
– Nor is this the only problem: energy prices have risen by 22.4% in a year, although it should be noted that this is below the national average. The Consumer Price Index for September shows that inflation in Malaga last month was 9.4%, which was slightly lower than predicted but still a matter of concern for households and businesses. The situation is not exclusive to Malaga or Spain, experts stress- it is something that is affecting the world economy. NERJA

Iconic German Messerschmitts given a second life in Nerja: The design of these vehicles, which have a retail price of around 15,000 euros, is inspired by the legendary three-wheeled cars designed by the German manufacturer Messerschmitt. Joachim Aldfinger makes an electric and petrol version of the cars. The cars are manufactured in Aldfinger’s workshop in Nerja, using carbon fibre and aluminum, although Aldfinger points out that the chassis is made in Ukraine, “in one of the areas that is free of the war and for the time being I am still able to import them,” he explains. SCIENCE

Are desalination plants a solution to the water problem?:
– To meet water needs, the so-called desalination plants are used more and more, mostly (90%) in the rich countries of the planet. In them, the sea water is made drinkable by cleaning it of suspended particles and eliminating excess minerals and salts. This is done using two different types of methods.
– The oldest are the so-called thermal methods.
– The other method is physical-chemical. They use membranes and their scientific basis is electrolysis, nano and ultrafiltration, and reverse osmosis. The desalinated and clean water, before being introduced into the supply network for human consumption, goes through a final process of remineralization and disinfection.
– The problem is that the current plants are not efficient enough and have major ecological problems. On the one hand, they consume a lot of energy and water is very expensive. On the other hand, they produce a large amount of waste that affects the marine fauna and flora. This waste, called brine, currently reaches fifty billion cubic meters a year on earth. This brine, which returns to the environment, especially to the oceans and seas, in addition to its high salinity, has a toxicity associated with the presence of metals. There, if it is not properly diluted and dispersed, there is a risk of creating dead zones due to lack of oxygen and contamination, which degrades the marine environment and will generate another problem. CULTURE

Pattie Boyd is sick of being called a muse:
– It was London in the sixties, the time of Mary Quant miniskirts and youthful freedom on Carnaby Street, King’s Road and Kensington. Michael Caine sat behind the wheel of a 600, and David Hemmings wore white pants and wielded a camera. It was a time of protests, drugs and ideas. And, above all, it was the time of Pattie Boyd.
– The model, photographer and actress inspired almost a dozen songs from rock’s most mythologized stars. She was a key figure in an increasingly complex society, an icon who connected John Lennon with the wealthiest pockets of the time. She was ahead of the changes that were coming. Elizabeth II was reigning over Britain, but Pattie Boyd ruled over London. Photos: Pattie Boyd.
– She fell in love with George Harrison. They ended up marrying. She was, in fact, the one who introduced Harrison to the realms of Indian spirituality. She became a fixture on the band’s travels, eventually changing the sound of the biggest band on the planet forever. Revolver (1966) included the sounds of sitars. Then the Rolling Stones borrowed the idea for Paint It Black, and by 1968, the Beatles were making group trips to India to learn to meditate. “I don’t miss those times,” she says with septuagenarian sarcasm.

MALAGA

Delays in specialist consultations slow down hundreds of operations in Malaga, 200k+ waiting for 1st specialist appt: {Translation} 13 Oct, 2022 – 06:30h
– The latest cut-off of waiting lists in the public health system in the province of Malaga for last June shows that there are more patients waiting for an operation than in December 2021. Exactly 24,723 compared to 21,048 at that time. It is true that they are waiting less. At the end of last year they were waiting an average of 124 days for surgery and in June that figure had fallen to 117. But the figures show that, six months later, there were 3,675 more patients awaiting surgery. And that was before the summer break, which always increases waiting lists.
– But there is also another reality to take into account that worsens the situation: the blockage caused by delays in making the first appointment with a specialist. Because the delay in accessing these appointments delays diagnostic tests, diagnoses, treatments and hundreds of operations. Of the total number of patients on the waiting list for a first appointment with a specialist as of last June – 215,703 – half – 107,220 – had exceeded the 60-day time limit stipulated in the Andalusian Regional Government’s decree for patients to have a first appointment.
– Compared to December, they waited on average fewer days. Then patients had to wait 104 days and last June 102. But the total number of patients awaiting a first appointment with a specialist had increased. At the end of 2021 they amounted to 203,640 and at the beginning of last summer the figure rose to 215,703. In other words, after six months, there were 12,063 more patients.
– “A patient who is waiting for a consultation with a specialist that is delayed is a patient we see more of. Because they either return to primary care or they get desperate and go to the emergency department of a hospital,” explained a doctor at a health centre. He added: “The family doctor is the patient’s advocate. And if their case is preferential, we always try to see them as soon as possible. When there is no solution, the first to suffer is the patient, and we experience this with them”.
– He assured that “there are not many differences” between the previous Socialist administration and the current PP administration and that there is generally good communication between primary care and hospitals. But he insisted that waiting list delays “must be reduced”.
– Among the specialities with the longest delays are Angiology and Vascular Surgery (227 days), Allergology (152), Neurology (149), Dermatology (140), Rehabilitation (135), Digestive System (127), Pneumology (121) and Traumatology and Orthopaedic Surgery (111), among others.
– With regard to the surgical list, of the 21,048 patients awaiting surgery in June, just over 10% (2,208) were out of time or had been waiting for more than 365 days. Of these 21,048 patients, 12,904 were covered by the decrees which (depending on the case) set a waiting time limit of 90, 120 or 180 days for an operation. Of the latter, 1,400 were overdue. Another 8,144 were on the surgical list for operations not included in the maximum waiting time limits (the so-called non-guaranteed) and of these, 808 had been waiting for more than a year.
– By hospitals, the Regional Hospital had the most patients outside the decree or with waiting times of more than a year. Exactly, 1,896 out of a total of 9,206 on its surgical list. It was followed by Antequera with 175 out of a total of 2,076, Clínico with 100 out of 6,448, Costa del Sol with 62 out of 4,211, Axarquia with 59 out of 1,661 and Serrania de Ronda with 13 out of 1,121. France will not trade nuclear strikes with Russia over Ukraine:
France will not respond with nuclear weapons should Russia use them against Ukraine, French President Emmanuel Macron said.
“Our doctrine rests on the fundamental interests of the nation,” Mr Macron told public broadcaster France 2 on Wednesday. “They are defined clearly and wouldn’t be directly affected at all if, for example, there was a ballistic nuclear attack in Ukraine, in the region.”
It was the first time Mr Macron has discussed France’s nuclear deterrence doctrine regarding Ukraine in detail, but he said it was not good to talk about it too much. Russia strikes 40+ Ukrainian towns, head of annexed region tells residents to leave: {Oct. 13, 2022, 4:41 PM GMT+2}
– Russian missiles have pounded dozens of Ukrainian cities and towns over the past 24 hours, while the head of one of the regions annexed by Russia told residents on Thursday to leave amid fighting between Russian and advancing Ukrainian forces.
– A day after the United Nations Security Council condemned Moscow’s incorporation of four partially occupied regions into its territory as illegal, the Russian-installed governor of one of those, Ukraine’s southern Kherson region, appealed for residents to take their children and leave.
– The official, Vladimir Saldo, asked for Moscow’s help in transporting civilians into Russia, saying the cities in the region were subject to missile attacks. Full article: https://www.reuters.com/world/ukraine-vows-strengthen-its-armed-forces-after-major-russian-air-strikes-2022-10-10/

This Tuesday, 11Oct at 14:30, the Swedish-flagged sailing ship Elida V arrived in the port of Malaga. Owned by the Elida Christian Foundation, this vessel, which has also been called a floating church, sails for different social and humanitarian projects. But this is not its only attraction. Its deck becomes a stage for concerts of religious songs at 15:00, 18:00 and 21:00 daily while in port. After the recital, they offer a free tour and coffee. It is berthed at Pier One in the megayacht marina facility. No word on how long it will be staying.

SPAIN

Minister of Defense Margarita Robles makes it clear Spain does not participate in the nuclear issues of NATO: { Translation, summary}
– The Minister clarified on Wednesday that Spain “does not participate nor has it ever participated” in the nuclear issues of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO).
– During an interview on RNE’s ‘Las Mañanas’, she assured that Spain will not participate in NATO’s annual military maneuvers for nuclear preparedness during this exercise. “In the field of nuclear actions, Spain has never taken part in NATO”, she remarked.
– Robles explained that NATO maneuvers are always planned more than a year in advance, so they are not “reactive” to the current situation, nor are they a response to Putin’s threat. “Any planning that NATO does, like any military planning, requires a long period of time,” she said. ANDALUCIA

Another EU Bailout with Painful Strings Attached? Andalucía needs five billion euros from Europe to combat the drought:
– President of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, said on Tuesday that the present drought in the region is a serious threat to the economy and major investment is needed to provide adequate infrastructure.
– He called for specific plans to be drawn up by the government in Madrid to finance these projects in southern Spain and for the EU’s Next Generation funds to be reprogrammed to cover not only environmental and energy efficiency projects but also to solve the water problem. He also said he regretted that the drought is not talked about much in Europe because most EU countries are not affected by it. “This is something that the European authorities need to understand,” he said. Andalucia Cancel Culture- CSIF shows typical hypersensitive Progressive outrage, calls for resignation of the president of the Andalusian Council of Medical Associations, Antonio Aguado, for stating his opinion on the feminisation of medicine: {Translation}
– In these statements Aguado, who is also president of the Huelva Medical Association, said he saw the “growing feminisation” of private medicine as a problem for his profession, as women cannot fully dedicate themselves to their professional work “because they have to take care of their children, pregnancies or look after their homes”.
– The union, La Central Sindical Independiente y de Funcionarios, in a statement, has indicated that these words “show the lack of connection with the daily life of a professional group that, both in the public and private sectors, has given ample proof of its value and dedication in caring for the public, regardless of gender”.
– “These are statements which, because they are sexist and anachronistic, take us back fifty years”, lamented the trade union organisation, which understands that “fortunately, the clock in healthcare and many other professional fields has moved forward in recent decades in terms of equality, starting with a group, the medical profession, where women are the majority and demonstrate their professionalism in each of the public and private healthcare centres where they provide services”.
– The outrage to the statements made by the head of the Andalusian Council of Medical Associations, who “does a disservice to the institution he represents”, to which CSIF has demanded “a clear and public rectification in this regard”.
(I wonder if that is the same clock that now makes us wait 120 days to see a specialist, or 2 years for an operation? Now there’s a reason for outrage! -Ed.) AXARQUIA

Axarquía water supplies are guaranteed for the next year, Junta reassures residents:
– The Junta de Andalucía tried to quell fears in La Axarquía that the water supply will run out altogether on Tuesday, insisting that supplies are guaranteed for at least another year even if it hardly rains at all this winter.
– Fourteen municipalities in the area, with a total population of around 160,000, rely exclusively on La Viñuela reservoir for their water and at present it only contains 10% of its capacity. However, the Junta recently made the unprecedented decision to ban farmers from using the water for irrigation and this is will help to guarantee the domestic supply. Water will continue to be transferred from other areas where the drought is not so serious, and will be able to be taken from two of the three wells in the Chillar river in Nerja in a few weeks. The Provincial Council provides almost 200,000 euros for the river path in Árchez to continue the Mills Route: {Translation, summary}
– The Diputación de Málaga is financing with almost 200,000 euros the extension of the SL A-277 footpath in Árchez, which forms the Ruta de los Molinos – linking this town with Canillas de Albaida – on the right bank of the river Turvilla. Various actions will be carried out to improve and recover an old irrigation channel to link it with the aforementioned path from Árchez. In addition, this route also serves as a connection with stage 7 of the Gran Senda de Málaga.

Berlin- Court allows placing wrecked Russian tank outside embassy:
– Activists should be allowed to place a wrecked Russian tank in front of Moscow’s embassy in Berlin, according to a German court. City officials had resisted the idea.
– Enno Lenze and Wieland Giebel of the Berlin Story Bunker museum first proposed the idea in June, saying they wanted to place the ruined T-90 tank outside Russia’s embassy on the renowned Unter den Linden boulevard for a period of two weeks. They had been inspired by similar actions in cities like Kyiv and Prague and Warsaw, Lenze said in an English-language video posted online. USA

Biden says Saudi Arabia will face ‘consequences’ for OPEC+ oil production cut:
– Biden suggested he would soon take action, as aides announced that the administration is reevaluating its relationship with the kingdom in light of the oil production cut that White House officials say will help another OPEC+ member, Russia, pad its coffers as it continues its nearly eight-month war in Ukraine.
– Congressmen introduced legislation that would immediately pause all U.S. arms sales to Saudi Arabia for one year. This pause would also halt sales of spare and repair parts, support services and logistical support.
– But it remains to be seen how far Biden is willing to go in showing his displeasure with the Saudis, a vital but complicated ally in the Middle East.
– “Saudi Arabia’s disastrous decision to slash oil production by two million barrels a day makes it clear that Riyadh is seeking to harm the U.S. and reaffirms the need to reassess the U.S.-Saudi relationship,” California Congressman Ro Khanna said. “There is no reason for the U.S. to kowtow to a regime that has massacred countless civilians in Yemen, hacked to death a Washington-based journalist and is now extorting Americans at the pump.” Full article: https://www.france24.com/en/americas/20221012-biden-says-saudi-arabia-will-face-consequences-for-its-oil-production-cut

Pfizer exec confesses to European Parliament vaccine never even tested for stopping transmission:
– Undermining the premise for mandates and “passports,” a Pfizer executive admitted to the European Parliament on Monday that her company’s vaccine was never tested during clinical trials for the ability to prevent transmission of COVID-19.
– Janine Small, Pfizer’s president of international developed markets, was asked by Dutch MEP Rob Roos if the pharmaceutical giant had tested the vaccine “on stopping the transmission of the virus before it entered the market.”
– “No … you know, we had to really move at the speed of science to really understand what is happening in the market,” she confessed.
– Roos later posted a video on Twitter of Small’s response and added his own comment. “This is scandalous!” he said. “Millions of people worldwide felt forced to get vaccinated because of the myth that you do it for others.” That claim, he said, has “turned out to be a cheap lie.”
– He pointed out in a tweet that the the purpose of the COVID passport required by many countries was to force people to get vaccinated. “The world needs to know,” he wrote.
– Last week, Florida’s Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladopo recommended men aged 18-39 not get the COVID vaccinate after publishing a study showing an 84% increase in the risk of cardiac death in the 28 days following the shots. SEPE warns of phishing attempts under its name: {Translation}
– Phishing is one of the tactics most commonly used by cybercriminals to try to commit all kinds of crimes, whether banking or stealing personal information. This technique consists of sending an email, SMS or WhatsApp that includes infected files or links to fraudulent pages, with the aim of stealing private information from the person or infecting the device being used.
– There are many companies whose image has been affected by this attempt by digital thieves to get hold of their respective targets, and the latest to warn of this has been the State Public Employment Service (SEPE). Cybercriminals are using their acronym to try to get their hands on the data of citizens who use this service by sending SMS, email and Whatsapp.
– The SEPE warns that “it will never ask for your personal or bank details if not through its official channels: telephone (91 926 79 70), in person or at its electronic headquarters, with proof of identity”.
How to recognise a phishing attempt
– Among the guidelines to try to recognise phishing attempts by third parties are the appearance of an unknown sender, the use of misspellings or inappropriate language and unconnected sentences, the request for passwords or credentials and the offer of discounts or refunds by clicking on a link or downloading the attachment of the email received.
– In view of this proliferation of phishing attempts, the SEPE reminds users that the agency will never request personal or bank details by SMS, email or Whatsapp, and that they should never access links or download attachments from these emails or messages received by users from cybercriminals.
– If you have been the subject of a phishing attempt, you should discard that unanswered SMS, email or Whatsapp; and if you think your data may have been compromised, you should contact law enforcement, as well as the Oficina de Seguridad del Internauta.

Spanish Customs: I would like to know where exactly one can file a complaint about the Spanish Customs Authority.
My stepmother has sent some me an envelope with the travel section from some old newspapers. She was told in the UK she had to declare a value, even though old newspapers are destined for the trash! She put the value at 50P. When I went to collect the package, I see that the customs people want €24.46!
I told the post office I wanted to complain but was not allowed to take a photo of the package, without paying the 42.46€ .

IMF says Germany and Italy to slip into recession in 2023: A forecast by the International Monetary Fund shows Germany and Italy are to tumble into recession next year. Both countries are viewed as the G7 economies that are most exposed to gas supply cuts from Russia. In an update to its World Economic Outlook, the IMF said the German economy was now expected to shrink by 0.3% in 2023. The IMF had previously forecast 0.8% growth for the country. Italy, which is also reliant on Russian fuel imports, is set to see its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) contract by 0.2% – down sharply on the July forecast of 0.8% growth. Ukraine sees more widespread military strikes:
– Russian forces showered Ukraine with more missiles and munition-carrying drones Tuesday after widespread strikes killed at least 19 people in an attack the U.N. human rights office described as “particularly shocking” and amounting to potential war crimes.
– Air raid warnings sounded throughout the country for a second straight morning as Ukrainian officials advised residents to conserve energy and stock up on water. The bombardment Tuesday struck both energy infrastructure and civilian areas, just as Monday’s attacks did. One person was killed when 12 missiles slammed into public facilities in the southern city of Zaporizhzhia, setting off a large fire, the State Emergency Service said. A local official said the missiles hit a school, residential buildings and medical facilities. Energy facilities in the western Lviv and Vinnitsya regions also took hits. Although officials said Ukrainian forces shot down an inbound Russian missile before it reached Kyiv, the capital region experienced rolling power outages as a result of the previous day’s deadly strikes. SPACE

NASA’s Space Weapon Changes Asteroid Orbit By 32 Minutes After Successful 14,000 Mph Hit:
– After it successfully collided with an asteroid late last month, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) was successfully able to change the asteroid’s orbit confirmed the space agency earlier today. The test was the first of its kind conducted by any space agency on Earth, and its aim was to test whether humans could alter the trajectory of potentially threatening objects, such as asteroids if they were to pose a threat to Earth.
– The mission saw NASA’s DART impactor spacecraft smash into the Didymos asteroid system’s moonlet asteroid Dimorphus, and fresh data from the agency reveals that the impact managed to reduce the moonlet’s orbit around its parent asteroid by more than half an hour. Before it flew the DART spacecraft thousands of miles away from Earth towards the Didymos asteroid system, NASA’s criteria had outlined that a successful test would see the moonlet asteroid’s path change by 75 seconds.
– NASA has confirmed that the mission was successful, and Dimorphus orbit was altered by 32 minutes due to the impact which took place at an eye popping speed of 14,000 miles per hour. Natterbox: Hi Digamites!
I hope you are enjoying being in Spain, whether resident full-time or a short-term visitor, and that life has returned to some ‘normality’….whatever that may be!….for you.
Three years ago, I set up a group called ‘Natterbox’ which I described as ‘a short cut to friendship’ (Just to clarify, as there were a couple of misunderstandings last time I posted this- Natterbox is not a dating group). Given what has been happening to us in that time, I am very pleased to say that Natterbox has survived, and earlier this week ten of us met up for an evening of good company & equally good conversation. However, the aftermath of the pandemic and the knock-on effect of Brexit for some of us has led to situations where we sometimes feel a bit like ‘ships in the night’, arriving in Spain just as some friends are leaving and vice versa, so it seems a good time to see if there are any more Digamites out there who would be interested in joining us.
Natterbox is an informal group to be used by members for the sole purpose of meeting up to ‘have a good old natter’. There are no regular meetings, no fixed topics or agendas, and members arrange to meet up spontaneously, in pairs or more whenever the fancy takes them. So, if for instance you arrive in Spain only to find that few of your existing friends are around at that moment, you would be able to contact people in the Natterbox WhatsApp group to see if they fancy a coffee or a copa! Or perhaps several people you know have decided to return to their home country, and you would like to get to know others, then this may appeal to you.
Our members are currently based between Nerja & Torrox & near surrounds, so group get-togethers are confined to either of these locations for the time being. That doesn’t preclude people living in other areas from joining but it would mean you would probably need to travel to those areas.
Please contact me if you are interested, telling me a little about yourself, including where you are based in Spain. I follow up by meeting up for a quick chat to answer any questions you might have and to make sure Natterbox is for you, before adding anyone to our contact list. I look forward to hearing from you.

SPAIN

‘Homologación’ – How Spain is ruining the careers of thousands of qualified foreigners:
– Thousands of doctors, engineers and other highly skilled foreigners are being prevented from working in their fields as they wait for years for their non-EU qualifications to be recognised by Spain’s convoluted bureaucratic system, a nightmare labelled as protectionism and “Kafkaesque”.
– Doctors, veterinarians, pharmacists, nurses, physiotherapists, optometrists, dentists, occupational therapists, psychologists, speech therapists, architects, engineers, lawyers, and more are included.
– Tens of thousands of foreigners in Spain with qualifications from non-EU countries are having their careers put on hold and their lives kept in limbo as Spain’s public administrations take two, three or four years (sometimes even longer) for their regulated qualifications to be processed.
– Regulated professions are those that require Spanish authorities to validate non-EU qualifications through the process of homologación before jobseekers can legally work in their fields.

45% of Public Employees Consume Daily Psychoactive Drugs: {Translation, summary}
– Almost half of the public employees in Spain (2.7 million people) consume anxiolytics, antidepressants and sleeping pills on a daily basis, according to a study carried out by the Central Independent Union of Civil Servants (CSIF), on the occasion of World Mental Health Day.
– The workload, the low professional and salary recognition and the bad working environment are the three main causes cited by respondents to resort to the use of psychotropic drugs, according to the ‘Survey on mental health in the workplace’ of the CSIF conducted on a sample of 2,028 public employees aged between 25 and 64 years.
– The questionnaire reveals that 34.2 % use anxiolytics or tranquillisers, 19.6 % antidepressants, 14.4 % hypnosedatives and 10.8 % other types of psychotropic drugs. Fifty-one percent confess that they use this medication on a daily basis, compared with 21% who use it “some times a month”, 15% “in the last year” and 13% “several times a week”. 76% say that work has an influence on the use of these psychoactive substances and 54.2% relate it to an excessive workload, while 44.6% link it to a lack of professional recognition. For 37.7 %, consumption is affected by the bad working environment, citing harassment at work, conflicts at work and even possible aggression. EUROPE

EU Greenies Target Tourism – European Environment Ministers Agree to Promote Transformation of European Tourism:
– Through the ministerial declaration, the delegates emphasized that the transformation of the tourism sector (by the environmentalists, who, of course, are also experts on tourism???) will be promoted by implementing targeted programs and projects.
– “The Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism, launched by UNWTO and partners at the 2021 UN Climate Change Conference (COP26), and the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative, a joint initiative from UNWTO and UNEP were both referenced as key initiatives to help guide the transformation of the sector,” the statement issued by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) reads, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
– Speaking at the Ministerial Conference, State Secretary for the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Croatia, Mario Šiljeg, also emphasized the importance of tourism for European economies and the significant benefits of “embracing innovative approaches, especially moving away from traditional relations of the value chain (?), adopting more systematic circular models (?) of production and consumption.” (So “chains” are bad and “circles” are good? Could they possibly be less clear? Misguided, over reaching EU initiatives like this are one of the prime reasons there is an energy crisis. What exactly are these benefits Šiljeg refers to? What do tourism experts say about having environmentalists telling them how to do their jobs? -Ed.). Russia blasts Kyiv, other Ukrainian cities in deadly strikes:
– Russia unleashed a lethal barrage of strikes against multiple Ukrainian cities Monday, smashing civilian targets including downtown Kyiv where at least six people were killed amid burnt-out cars and shattered buildings. The onslaught brought back into focus the grim reality of war after months of easing tensions in the capital. Ukraine’s Emergency Service said a total of at least 11 people were killed and 64 were wounded in the morning attacks across Ukraine – the biggest and broadest since the early days of the war.
– Russian President Vladimir Putin said the strikes were in retaliation for what he called Kyiv’s “terrorist” actions – a reference to Ukraine’s attempts to repel Moscow’s invasion forces, including an attack last weekend on a key bridge, prized by the Kremlin, between Russia and the annexed Crimean Peninsula. (Mainstream media has yet to address 2 points in this regard, will this cause a new wave of Ukrainian refugees, and where has the peace movement gone? -Ed.) TECH

DoctorLaptop’s Tips #99
Microsoft Telemetry- The Spyware Built Into Windows, and How to Defeat It:
– Security conscious computer users take steps to keep their computers private and secure. They use privacy browsers like Brave, they use privacy search engines like DuckDuckGo and they always connect to the internet with a premium VPN.
– Yet Microsoft still collects some of your data, in a data dump sent directly from your Windows system, that bypasses all the security precautions. They share this data with their “business partners”, so it is not secure. What exactly do they collect, even after you turn off all the data collection permissions in Settings? Here is a list:
– All the text you have typed from your keyboard, every 30 minutes, including passwords.
– What type of hardware you use.
– Device driver details.
– A list of all multimedia file from your computer is also transmitted. Yes, Microsoft keeps an updated list of every song, video and movie on your hard drive!
– Microsoft gets the first 35 MB of data from your webcam every time you use it.
– Everything you say to Cortana, the digital assistant built into Windows 10. In addition to that, the service also transmits full transcription of your conversation with Cortana to Microsoft.
The article linked below, despite being 3 years old, contains several working methods of defeating this data collection. Note, if you have Windows 10 Home, the Group Policy Editor method is unavailable to you. Windows 11 users may see slightly different settings pages than the article photos show, but the methods are the same. Before doing any system modifications, be sure to create a new System Restore Point! Article: https://www.windowschimp.com/microsoft-compatibility-telemetry/

SPAIN

Flavia Sabora- Lost Roman town is rediscovered under a crop field in Spain:
– Scientists from the Geodetection Unit at the University of Cádiz (UCA) have identified the layout of what appear to be streets, public spaces and even thermal baths or a nymphaeum in El Carrascal, a rural crop-growing area on the outskirts of Cañete, the name of which is thought to derive from the Spanish word for spring or spout. Through the use of drones, georadar and data-processing using computer software – a technique known as non-invasive archaeology – the researchers have managed to scan the subsoil across an area of more than two hectares, under which the entire layout of a possible Roman town appears. “It is too large to be a village and too small to fit the profile of a large classical Roman city. It fits more with the concept of a small town, a civic, religious and administrative center that served a larger rural area,” says Lázaro Lagóstena, a professor of ancient history and head of the UCA Geodetection Unit who for decades has specialized in the study of landscapes and ancient rural areas. October 7, it was 451 years since the Battle of Lepanto- Spain saved the Western Greco-Roman-Judeo-Christian Civilization by defeating Islam:
– Most people are told in school that in the year 1492 the Spanish, led by the “Catholic Monarchs”, Isabel and Fernando, managed to defeat the last king of Granada and put an end to the presence of eight centuries of Muslims. in the Iberian Peninsula, which had begun in the year 711.
– What students are told in primary education (also in secondary and university education) is a half-truth, because it was later, after more than a century, when the full expulsion took place, when the Spanish overcame the followers of Mohammed (the fallacy is also told, the great lie of the “peaceful and cordial coexistence of the three religions of the book”, Muslims, Jews and Christians), it was in 1609 when Felipe III decreed the expulsion of the Spanish Moriscos, after more than a century of “goodness” and trying to solve what had no solution, with hot cloths, after countless rebellions, among which, the most important were in the Alpujarras of Granada and Almería, which they were finally put down in 1571.
It was in the 17th century when the Muslims were definitively expelled from Spain to North Africa, although many ended up hiding, camouflaging themselves among the Christian population, mainly for economic reasons, since they did not have the money to be able to leave, and they ended up “Christianizing themselves”. It is estimated that some ten or fifteen thousand Moriscos remained among the population of the kingdom of Granada.
Before the victory over Islam took place in Spain, it was also necessary to defeat those who helped the Muslims who were in Spanish territory, from the other side of the sea, in the battle of Lepanto, on October 7, 1571. NERJA

Ecologists denounce the works in the area of the source of the Maro river: {Translation, summary}
– The Gabinete de Estudios de la Naturaleza de la Axarquía (GENA-Ecologistas en Acción) has this week lodged a complaint with the Territorial Directorate of the Environment of the Junta de Andalucía in Málaga about land development works for irrigation above the source of the river Maro in Nerja.
– According to the environmental group, they had observed in the area around the source of this spring in Maro, “significant earthworks have been carried out this year above the spring, with possible consequences for the quality of the water”.
– GENA-EeA have sent a letter in which they point out that “the plot in question has been subjected to major earthworks to achieve a large flattened surface, incorporating earth into the rocky areas (karstified limestone), which has been achieved by means of numerous lorry loads of this material, This is far from being a ‘minor work’, and should have been considered a ‘major work’, referring to the permit which was allegedly obtained for the work in question, which, according to them, ‘was even approved for the easternmost part of the plot, and yet the earth filling has been spread over the whole plot’.
– Furthermore, they add that the plot subjected to this earthworks “has invaded the Cañada Real de Motril-Nerja (of some 70 m legal width), as well as closing it off by means of the fence built (thus preventing passage), which contravenes the regulations on Vías Pecuarias”. MARBELLA

German countess Gunilla von Bismarck, who helped put the Costa del Sol on the map- ‘Marbella had more glamour in those days’:
If one were to put a face to the golden era of Marbella it would be hers. Now, however, “you come and you don’t know anyone,” says the leader of the world-famous ‘jet set’. Some quotes…
–Has the concept of celebrity been devalued, do you think?
–G: There are no great stars nowadays. I don’t know who the celebrities are today, so they can’t be that famous.
–They’re known as influencers today.
–G: That is something I don’t understand and I don’t want anything to do with it. I love nature, fun people, songs, music, animals and people who try to change the world, especially the era we are living in, which is horrible. So for me an influencer is not a profession, it’s a joke.
–Do you think Marbella paid too high a price for constant exposure and the excesses of that golden period?
–L: No, it hasn’t paid any price at all because Marbella has become an incredible town and before it was just a seaside resort. Don’t forget that now it has 150,000 voters or more. Photo: Daniel Maldonado/SUR

Florida Finds Link Between mRNA Vax And Heart Failure – State Surgeon General now recommends against the COVID-19 mRNA vaccines for males ages 18-39 years old:
Found 84% increase in the relative incidence of cardiac-related death among males 18-39 years old within 28 days following mRNA vaccination.
– In the 28 days following vaccination, a statistically significant increase in cardiac-related deaths was detected for the entire study population.
***From official Florida gov’t document, pic below***
“Guidance for mRNA COVID-19 Vaccines, October 7, 2022”
– This analysis found there is an 84% increase in the relative
incidence of cardiac-related death among males 18-39 years old within 28 days following mRNA vaccination. Individuals with preexisting cardiac conditions, such as myocarditis and pericarditis, should take particular caution when considering vaccination.
– With a high level of global immunity to COVID-19, the benefit of vaccination is likely outweighed by this abnormally high risk of cardiac related death among men in this age group.
– The State Surgeon General now recommends against the COVID-19 mRNA vaccines for males ages 18-39 years old.
***Individuals and health care providers should also be aware that this analysis found…***
– Males over the age of 60 had a 10% increased risk of cardiac-related death within 28 days of mRNA vaccination.
– Non-mRNA vaccines were not found to have these increased risks among any population.
– The Department continues to recommend against use in healthy children and adolescents 5 years old to 17 years old. This now includes recommendations against COVID-19 vaccination among infants and children under 5 years old.
