MOONETTE – Organic Skincare for Mature Skin
We are a Torrox-based company specialising in the creation of formulae which help prevent premature skin ageing
Do you know that our Ultra Moisturizing Body & Hand Cream is made from 100% natural ingredients?
The powerful combination of aloe vera, beeswax, grapeseed, wheat germ, shea-butter and lavender essential oil will give your skin long-hours hydration and sun protection.
As our skin is the first layer of our defence against microbial infections, ultraviolet radiation and environmental contamination it plays a vital role in our health. As we grow older, however, our skin becomes thinner, wrinkled, and more sensitive; hence it requires the use of treatments containing specific ingredients to the care of treating mature skin.
Recognising this need we have created a range of formulae which help
-slow down ageing process by smoothing fine lines and wrinkles.
-improve facial complexion and eliminate blemishes.
At Moonette, we are passionate about health, beauty and plants. Your skin will benefit from the properties of botanic essential oils combined with a selection of nutrients for deep hydration, cell revitalization and antioxidant effect, all sourced from the finest natural ingredients with gorgeous fragrances. We are committed to making effective products at affordable prices.
Naturally, we care about our planet and feel the need to help reduce the sheer volumes of plastics waste that are generated daily around the globe. Presently, we are minimizing the usage of plastic materials in our production while seeking alternative forms of packaging. To help reduce pollution we are asking all local customers to recycle or reuse their Moonette skincare containers, and offering a small discount on future purchases to customers recycling containers.

Denmark lifts last of Covid curbs: With no masks in sight, buzzing offices and concerts drawing tens of thousands, Denmark on Friday ditches vaccine passports in nightclubs, ending its last Covid curb.
The vaccine passports were introduced in March 2021 when Copenhagen slowly started easing restrictions.
They were abolished at all venues on September 1, except in nightclubs, where they will be no longer necessary from Friday.

Coronavirus-sniffing dogs unleashed at Miami airport to detect virus in employees: Though Miami is the first American airport to use dogs to detect the virus, countries such as the United Arab Emirates and Finland began testing the idea last summer.
The canines’ accuracy rivals traditional coronavirus tests and even some lab equipment, Furton said. He cited a double-blind study published by FIU, which found the animals achieved 96 to 99 percent accuracy rates for detecting the virus.
The sniffer dogs will spend their shifts sniffing the face coverings of employees passing through a checkpoint to detect the presence of the virus in sweat, breath and scents due to metabolic changes that the virus causes in the human body. If a dog signals the odor of the virus on a person, that individual will be asked to take a rapid coronavirus test, the airport said.

COVID-19

Covid Malaga- Malaga registers two deaths and new infections remain below 200 cases: {Translation} Updated: 9Sep21
-The incidence rate of coronavirus in the province continues to fall and stands at 123 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, while only the Costa del Sol Health District remains at level 2 health alert.
Coronavirus data in Malaga, which since Thursday is now almost entirely at level 1 health alert remain stable although in the last two days there have been slight increases in infections. They are still below 200 cases per day and far from the 275 with which the week started.
-Specifically, the Ministry of Health and Families of the Andalusian Regional Government has notified this Thursday 156 infections in Malaga in the last 24 hours, thirty more than yesterday and 88 more than Tuesday.
-Regarding the deaths, there are two more deaths in the province in the last 24 hours. In the nine days of September 32 people have lost their lives, ten of them have died this week. But in recent days there has also been a slight decrease in this section of the statistics, since the same days of last week (August 30 and September 2) left 27 victims, that is, the deaths would have been reduced by half.
-At present, 196 patients are admitted to hospital and 44 of them are in the ICU, which means that the situation on the ward has improved in the last week (with 34 less bedridden), but the occupancy of the ICU remains identical.
-As for the incidence rate, the province stands this Thursday with 123 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, according to data from the Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia (IECA), six points less than yesterday, Wednesday. The fall has slowed, but still maintains the clear downward trend. For its part, the capital is at 133.8 cases, compared to 140.9 the day before.

ANDALUCIA

Andalusians wait an average of 44 days to have surgery and 86 days to see a specialist: {Translation, summary}
-During an appearance to report on the situation of the health waiting list during the pandemic, Aguirre reported the existence of 123,339 patients on the surgical waiting list in Andalusia, which represents a reduction of 22 percent compared to December 2018 and almost 20% compared to June 2020, reducing the average delay by 66 days.
-“We have made a greater effort in those patients pending surgery outside the deadline or who have been waiting for more than 365 days, as the reduction has been 30.8% (with respect to 2018) and almost 61% with respect to June 2020,” referred Aguirre.
-With respect to procedures guaranteed by law, the number of patients waiting is reduced by 2.6% with respect to 2018, and by 7.9% with respect to June 2020 data, reducing the average delay to 44 days.
-The reduction of patients in guaranteed procedures has been 65% with respect to those a year ago; having reduced the number of patients to 90 and 120 days. With respect to 180-day procedures, the number of patients has been reduced compared to a year ago but slightly increased compared to December 2018.
-Regarding the waiting list in outpatient consultations, the number of patients with delays of more than 60 days has been reduced by 16 percent, to place the measured delay at 87 days.
-In diagnostic tests, the situation is somewhat worse than in 2018 and similar to the end of 2019 in patients with delays of more than 30 days; it represents, however, 12 percent fewer patients compared to the previous year.
-Aguirre noted that the greatest effort has been made in serious pathologies that do not admit delay. From March 19 to June 30, 2021, 975 programmable pending patients with tumor pathology have been operated on, representing a reduction of 27% with an average delay for the intervention of 25 days.

EUROPE

EU Health Agency Says Only Three EU Countries Are Safe to Travel to, Though Overall Situation Is Improving: In line with the figures published by ECDD today, September 9, only the following three countries and four regions, which have detected less than 50 positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants during the last 14 days, are currently placed in the green category:
Czechia
Hungary
Poland
Region of Italy: Aosta
Region of Romania: Transylvania
Regions of Slovakia: Prešov and Košice
Consequently, this means that travel to these countries/regions is safe. In addition, in general, travellers from these countries and regions reaching the other EU Member States should not be subject to any entry restrictions. Still, it is up to each Member State to decide on its rules, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

Morocco’s ruling Islamists defeated by liberals after decade in power: The Islamist Justice and Development Party (PJD), which has been in power since 2011, won just 12 seats in the country’s 395-seat parliament, plummeting from the 125 seats it got in the 2016 parliament.
The PJD’s liberal rival, the National Rally of Independents (RNI), won 97 seats to become the largest party in parliament.
The Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) came in second, winning 82 seats to retain its position as the second biggest party, despite winning fewer seats than in the last parliament. Smart Glasses by Facebook and RayBan Mix Cool With Creepy- Personal SpyCams Go Mainstream: Ray-Ban’s Stories look like classic sunglasses. Except they’re made in partnership with Facebook and have built-in cameras that are hard to spot. We tested them.
Look, did I feel creepy recording my mother and my aunt without them knowing? Or my barista? Or a random couple at the coffee shop? Or my Uber driver? Or an aggressive squirrel in Central Park? I sure did, but I was just doing my job. Not one spotted the cameras or the recording light until I told them.
And they’re powered by technology from Facebook, which has a long history of privacy issues.
Yet whenever I think of the cool, I can’t shake the creepy. Easy to record your kids! And just as easy for some stranger to record your kids. Easy to capture spontaneous moments with your friends! And just as easy for someone to record a partner who is unaware a camera is on.
Dystopian? Sure. But one of the big lessons of the last decade – and the rise of Big Tech – is that cutting-edge convenience comes at a cost. We’ve already slid down a few slippery slopes, including a lack of data privacy and smartphone dependency. The cost may be worth it at times. We have free search engines and social networks, and little computers in our pockets that do so much.
But before we tumble down the next slippery slope it is worth much deeper consideration. In the case of the Ray-Ban Stories, I’m not convinced being able to take pictures without a smartphone in your hands is worth the potential privacy concerns.
(Privacy and confidentiality will soon be a relic of the past. In the very near future EVERYTHING you do and say, and every penny you spend, and everywhere you go, and all your documents and records, will be recorded, and stored on blockchain for all time, instantly accessible by those providing the data services. And you will pay for the privilege! You will eventually be sold on new convenience and security services the glasses can provide, buy these glasses and feed data of your constant movements to Big-tech. It could even become mandatory. “The world will be safer if we know what everyone is doing all the time”, they will say.  Yes folks, that is where big-tech is headed.
Surveillance cams and microphones are ubiquitous. Smartphones and digital assistants listen for our every word. Everything on the Internet is captured and saved. Now they want to turn every individual into a walking spy-cam! Please remember, every time you give up some privacy, it takes away with it some of your liberty that prior generations thought was worth fighting and dying for. -Ed.)

Cómpeta Art Walk is back on September 17, 18 & 19 2021 after an 18 month break:
This will be the 12th year that this beautiful white mountain village has hosted the Art Walk, with many international artists, sculptors and craftspeople exhibiting in their own homes, galleries or in municipal buildings.
You will get the chance to talk to the exhibitors about their motivation, inspiration and creative processes in their art, and of course to purchase pieces.
All spaces are within a manageable walking distance of each other (some steep roads, this is a mountain village), and can be viewed in one day.
As there will be a 2 hour break from 2.00pm – 4.00pm why not book a table at one of the many wonderful restaurants that are scattered throughout Cómpeta, or indeed make a weekend of it and book your own accommodation.
There will be live music on Saturday night in the main square and possibly other smaller musical events throughout the weekend.
Admission is absolutely free, no need to book (only accommodation and restaurants), so don’t miss out on this fabulous event.
We hope to see you at Cómpeta Art Walk on 17, 18 & 19 September 2021.

Golden Leaves Funeral Plans:
Pre-planning your funeral is a thoughtful and responsible way to show you care about your family.
Funerals are no easy task. There are numerous considerations to factor in, including logistics, food and drink, casket purchase and burial grounds. A loved one’s death brings immense emotional strain to any family, and the question of financing and arrangements only exacerbates the stress.
Handling all of these challenges is difficult enough in one’s normal circumstances, but having to go through it while abroad is an enormous burden.
Golden Leaves Funeral Plans aims to support grieving families during these tumultuous times. Since our inception in 1984, we have partnered with a widespread network of funeral directors across the UK and Europe.
Purchasing a funeral plan with Golden Leaves enables you to plan, design and pay for your funeral services in advance.
As one of the leading providers of expat prepaid funeral plans in Spain, Portugal, Cyprus, Balearic Islands, and the Canary Islands, we make sure to adequately support your family in the time of greatest need.

Halting Erosion using Vetiver:
From Vetiver Spain in Sayalonga
Our Nursery is open by appointment depending on the current travel restrictions. Please email or call first. We have Moringa seedlings, Organic Moringa powder and Comfrey plants. We also have some local trees and some exotic trees from Africa.
Vetiver is a rapid growing and non-invasive sterile clump grass with a height of 1-2 metres and a root system of 3-4 metres in depth. We have been providing Vetiver throughout the EU for almost 10 years now. We are located in Sayalonga where we can plant year round but our best results by far start in February. The reason is that Vetiver is indigenous to India and Vetiver loves the heat of the summer. Use Vetiver cuttings as mulch around all of your fruit trees. Decomposing Vetiver improves soil quality, keeps the weeds down and the insects away all while helping to maintain soil moisture.
Vetiver is a nutritious and replenishable animal fodder. Horses and pigs love it. We use it in our chicken pens replacing hay because it stops mites.
In the 2 photos below you will see land prepared for Vetiver and the results 2 years later.
We also use Vetiver along driveways and sidewalks. It also makes a great and inexpensive ornamental hedge.
Here is a link to a short video showing the results.
https://youtu.be/rjTmb_LL2uo
We suggest planting now, as this is the BEST time of the year to plant.
To see more images of Vetiver go to this link.

Covid Andalucia- Andalucía’s coronavirus incidence rate drops to 139.2, the lowest for more than five months: Updated: 08Sept. 2021, 13:10
-In the daily Covid update, the Junta has also registered 680 positives, and 27 deaths (five more than the day before and eight more than a week ago.)
-Regarding the 27 deaths registered in the last 24 hours, 18 were recorded in Seville, two in Malaga, Granada and Huelva and one each in Cadiz, Almeria and Cordoba. Jaén is the only province that did not record any deaths in the daily update. Full article: http://www.surinenglish.com/national/202109/08/andalucia-coronavirus-incidence-rate-20210908130224.html

MALAGA

The Costa del Sol remains at health alert Level 2, while Malaga city drops to Level 1: Five of the six health districts in Malaga province are now at Level 1, while the major coastal resorts will still face tighter coronavirus control measures for at least another week.
The only exception is the Costa del Sol health district, which includes the major tourist towns of the coast, and which will not see its existing coronavirus control measures eased for at least another week.
The Malaga health district has moved from Level 2 to Level 1, joining the health districts of the Axarquía, La Vega, Serranía and Guadalhorce that are already enjoying an easing of measures, mainly relating to capacity limits that affect the hospitality, commerce and culture sectors.
The move to Level 1 allows greater capacity in shops (up to one hundred per cent) and in culture (up to 85 per cent in theatres, cinemas and auditoriums).
In hospitality, the number of people who can sit at the same table increases to ten on terraces and eight indoors, compared to eight on terraces and six indoors at Level 2. Full article: http://www.surinenglish.com/local/202109/08/costa-remains-health-alert-20210908192710.html

Daily US COVID cases up more than 300% from Labor Day last year: Daily coronavirus cases are four times higher than they were following Labor Day weekend of last year with the number of daily deaths twice as high as they were this time in 2020, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
According to data from Health and Human Services, hospitalization rates are also up 157% compared with Labor Day weekend 2020, leaving medical facilities packed to the brim and their staffs exhausted and overwhelmed.
What’s more, intensive care units across several states are inching closer to full capacity, which could force doctors to make life-and-death decisions.

(I told you so. -Ed.) New report: Facebook reads and shares your WhatsApp private messages, “secure end to end encryption” claim is a lie: In 2016, WhatsApp announced it was using end-to-end encryption for all communications on its platform, covering everything from messages to file transfers. The use of end-to-end encryption is intended to offer users privacy and security, but it seems that may not be true for the messaging app. In a report by ProPublica, it is claimed WhatsApp employs more than 1,000 contract workers in Austin, Texas, Dublin, and Singapore, specifically for examining “millions of pieces of users’ content.” The workers “use special Facebook software” to look through messages and content that have been flagged by WhatsApp users, and have been screened by AI systems. What’s more, the company reportedly shares certain private data with law enforcement agencies, such as the US Department of Justice.
The revelation comes after Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg has repeatedly said that WhatsApp messages are not seen by the company. “We don’t see any of the content in WhatsApp,” the CEO said during testimony before the US Senate in 2018.
{These abuses are now public, what others remain undisclosed? Never believe anything Fakebook or WhatsApp says. They care nothing about their users privacy or gov’t regulations. On the contrary, they make a biz out of abusing your trust. Why else would they give you services for free? There is only so much ad space on a page, that was filled long ago. So now, searching for new “income streams”, they sell your data, and they need more and more of it to continue growing. They are insatiable. All that drives them is profit, and they are willing to pay fines along the way, as an operating expense, and even lie to US Congress, rather than playing by the rules. What is not yet public, but is well known by techies working for big tech, is that these content screeners are an over-worked, under-paid bunch, that will sell private data to the highest bidder, to significantly boost their incomes! -Ed.}

Storage needed: Can you help El Valle Drama Group? We urgently need storage for our stage and scenery, anywhere coastal or inland will do. The set is 2.2m high and 1m wide, but can be stored upright or flat, and the stage is in 0.5m by 2m blocks. In all we are looking for 2.2m by 1.5m, either wall to wall or floor to ceiling. If you have an end of a garage or underbuild you can spare, we would really appreciate it. The kit only comes out twice a year, so regular access won’t be needed. Sadly we are a small charitable group, and can’t afford to pay, but you would get 2 free tickets to each meal and show. If you have seen our shows and would like to help us continue, please contact Steve at steveheugh@yahoo.co.uk

SPAIN

Contradicting projections of high power bills thru March 2022, Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez says, ‘When 2021 is over, consumers will have paid the same for electricity as they did in 2018’: EL PAÍS Interview
Question: In recent days the government has conveyed a sensation of powerlessness in the face of the rise in the cost of electricity. Do you really not have any room for maneuver in order to control this rise?
Answer: The government is taking charge of the concern among citizens. And we are working on a plan to reach a concrete commitment, and that is that by the end of 2021 Spaniards will look back and see that they have paid a similar and comparable amount on their electricity bills as they did in 2018. That is the objective and the commitment: that all citizens with average consumption by the end of 2021 pay a similar and comparable amount as they paid in 2018, logically discounting inflation.
Q. And how are you going to do that? What instruments do you have?
A. It is important to clarify in this debate that one thing is the progress of the wholesale price in the market and another is your electricity bill. We pay our bills monthly. What doesn’t make sense is to look at the debate on a daily basis, because we don’t pay our bills daily. What the government can do is to cushion the changes in that wholesale price. First, with structural reforms, and with a solid commitment to renewable energies – not just due to issues of climate change, but also because they are cheaper. The electricity future markets are already saying that, thanks to renewables, Spain will have lower prices than France or Germany. What’s more, we have reduced VAT [sales tax] from 21% to 10%. This is benefitting 28 million consumers, and 2.8 million companies. It means a reduction in the state’s revenues of €1.4 billion. That absorbs 12% of the change in your bill. Thirdly, there is the protection of the most vulnerable consumers with social protection, with a ban on cutting off electricity supply for those who can’t pay or with energy vouchers. We are protecting 1.1 million consumers. What’s more, we have a plan to define a minimum-usage level in the areas of electricity and energy. And finally, the government has taken measures in this fourth area to revise the additional profits of the power companies. We have set aside €650 million that were destined for the electricity companies in order to divert them to consumers. We are going to take measures to guarantee that objective: that Spaniards, when they see what they have paid on their electricity bills in 2021, see that it is the same or comparable to the figure that they paid in 2018, not counting inflation. Full interview: https://english.elpais.com/spain/2021-09-06/spanish-pm-pedro-sanchez-when-2021-is-over-consumers-will-have-paid-the-same-for-electricity-as-they-did-in-2018.html

MALAGA

Body of missing British musician Jonathan ‘Pix’ Pickford found in Almogia: Authorities have found the lifeless body of man, during their for search for the British musician, Jonathan ‘Pix’ Pickford, who was reported missing on 29 August.
Jo Ramsay-Whale, a friend of Pix, whose social media post sparked the initial hunt, posted an update this Monday (6 September) on Facebook saying, “He has been found, in the area of his van. He’s not alive. Thanks to all who helped to find him x”
Pickford was well-known for singing and playing lead guitar with the band GU!R! in the Axarquia area. He hadn’t been seen since he was supposed to drive from the La Viñuela area to his home on the coast in Torre del Mar.
He had been driving a white Citroen Berlingo van and accompanied by his two, large dogs, which were found in the Los Mora area, some eight kilometres from Almogia in Malaga province.
The body of the British musician was found at 10.30am on one of the banks of the La Oliva stream, in Los Moras area, some 300 metres from where his van – and dogs – were found on Friday. The Guardia Civil will now be in charge of investigating the circumstances of Pickford’s death. Photo:Jo Ramsay-Whale/FB. UK

UK introduces new car sticker requirement for driving in Spain:
If you intend to drive your British vehicle in Spain – or anywhere else in the EU – you will now need a “UK” sticker on your car.
This replaces the GB sticker or magnet that was previously needed when driving abroad, and the UK government guidance states: “If you have a GB sticker, cover or remove it.”
The new rule will come into effect on September 28th, 2021 for British registered cars driving in the EU, with the exception of Ireland, which does not require a sticker or magnet.
The difference between Great Britain and the UK is the inclusion of Northern Ireland – GB refers only to England, Scotland and Wales while UK includes England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Clearly displaying the country of origin of your vehicle is an international requirement and if you are stopped by Spanish police without one you can be issued with an on-the-spot fine (although it’s unclear how bothered Spanish police will be about the intricacies of UK vs GB).

F1 Racing News- Verstappen beats Hamilton at Dutch GP, retakes championship lead: Verstappen held the lead from pole position at the start and dictated the race from that point on. Tennis US Open News- #73 ranked Canadian Leylah Fernandez, 18, beats Kerber at US Open to follow Osaka upset: The unseeded Fernandez grabbed the last five games to defeat 2016 champion Angelique Kerber 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2 in the fourth round Sunday in Louis Armstrong Stadium.
Just like against Osaka in Arthur Ashe Stadium two nights earlier, Fernandez dropped the opening set. Just like against Osaka, Fernandez trailed in the second set, too — this time, Kerber led by a break at 4-2.
But for the second match in a row on a big court, the 73rd-ranked Canadian got the crowd on her side, exulting each time she hit one of her on-the-run, impossible-angle groundstrokes. She’d pump a fist. She’d windmill her arms. And she got to do so repeatedly, ending up with a 45-28 edge in winners. New scam using QR codes: Malaga Provincial Police Station is warning the public about a new type of fraud that cybercriminals are now committing using QR codes.
They have pointed out that when people go out anywhere, it is becoming more common to have to check prices – gyms, restaurants, cinemas, shops, platforms – by scanning the QR code provided, created with the aim of enabling their content to be read at high speed, but, according to the National Police, this type of code “has been exploited by computer scammers to use them in a criminal way, and obtain personal and / or banking data of the victims”.
Unreliable News- Beware of news stories that open with “Study Shows…”:
-News outlets are in a constant race to get out the latest news stories to stay ahead of their competitors. A new trend shows that they are now raiding websites that host pre-peer-reviewed scientific studies for new stories to report. These sites are designed to provide researchers the ability to view, confirm and validate new studies, so they may then be updated, corrected and then submitted to official scientific journals as peer reviewed. These sites were never supposed to provide info for common distribution.
Let me explain…
-In order to validate a new science study the researchers must submit it to technical journals for publication. The journals then post these not yet validated studies on special websites for researchers, so other researchers can “peer review” the study. If it is confirmed by the peers/researchers on these pre publication websites, it is then approved for publication in the scientific journals as peer reviewed, and thus validated.
-The problem is that the news outlets are now scanning these “pre-peer-review study hosting sites”, and posting articles based on the un-validated studies. These sites all contain disclaimers clearly explaining the info in the studies they host are unverified, not yet peer reviewed, and are not to be relied on as accurate. Most news outlets fail to mention that disclaimer in their articles, often posting the unverified info as fact, with eye catching sensational headlines saying “Study Shows…” as if that means it must be true.
-When you read any news based on a study, before believing it, check the source of the study to confirm it comes from a major scientific journal, and not a “pre-peer-reviewed scientific studies” website.
And now you know the story behind the story. -Naythan

WhatsApp will stop working on old smartphones in two months leaving millions of people from seeing messages: Some 43 models – both Android and iOS – will be unable to use the encrypted messaging service.
Smartphones models with Android 4.0.4 or earlier will become incompatible, as well as iPhones with iOS 9 or earlier installed.
These phones are:
-Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini, Trend II, Trend Lite, Core, Ace 2
-LG Optimus F7, F5, L3 II Dual, F7 II, F5 II
-Sony Xperia
-Huawei Ascend Mate and Ascend D2
-Apple iPhone SE, 6S, and 6S Plus
WhatsApp claims phasing out support for older phones will make the app run more securely. The messaging service has lost many users over the last year due to ongoing security concerns over its new terms of service.
WhatsApp was traditionally known for it encrypted messaging service but recent changes to the way it handles users’ data has created an uproar. These measures would hand user data to private companies for marketing purposes.
This comes as WhatsApp was fined £193m – the second-highest fine under new data protection laws – after it was found to have breached EU data regulations. Full article: https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/16038390/whatsapp-will-stop-working-on-old-smartphones-in-november/

New ‘mu’ coronavirus variant could escape vaccine-induced immunity, WHO says: Health officials are watching another new coronavirus variant, dubbed “mu,” which they say has concerning mutations that could allow it to escape vaccine-induced immunity.
-The variant, also known as B.1.621, was first detected in Colombia in January 2021, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). On Monday (Aug. 30), WHO classified it as a “variant of interest,” or VOI, and named it mu.
-The VOI label means the variant is increasing in prevalence in multiple areas and has mutations that are likely to affect viral characteristics, such as transmissibility or disease severity.
-The mu variant “has a constellation of mutations that indicate potential properties of immune escape,” WHO officials wrote. Early data in lab dishes show that antibodies generated in response to COVID-19 vaccination or previous infection are less able to “neutralize,” or bind to and disable, the mu variant, the report said.
-So far, the mu variant has been detected in 39 countries, including in some large outbreaks in South America and Europe. Full article: https://www.livescience.com/mu-coronavirus-variant.html

The Torrox Spanish History Group: I am delighted to tell you that The Torrox Spanish History Group will be meeting up this month on Tuesday the 7th September at 11am.
The meeting will be held in El Parquesol restaurant. There is plenty of parking opposite the restaurant.
The title of the talk for this month will be “Last King of Granada”.
We have plenty of talks lined up for this year and also for the beginning of 2022 as well as future coach trips.
The Torrox Spanish History Group is a History Group whose aim is to gain a better understanding of the existing social, political, religious and economic conditions of the Spanish People and explore both the local history as well as its history on a much wider scale. The present is in fact the past.
We give short talks on particular periods or areas of history of members’ choosing and by studying history we hope it will provide an insight into the way Spain has evolved through the many cultures that have resided in Spain, from the Phoenicians, the Romans, the Visigoths, to the Arabs who have all left their legacy behind which is clearly visible in the form of Art, Architecture, cuisine, culture etc. Alone among the nations of Western Europe large areas of its territory has been occupied by non-Europeans which makes its history unique.
If you are interested in joining or coming along to the meeting on the 7th then please email me at
patricianerja at hotmail dot com.

COVID-19

Covid Andalucia- The number of daily deaths and coronavirus patients in Andalusian hospitals falls:
-Andalusia has this Wednesday, 1 September, registered a total of 949 new coronavirus infections – the second time in three months that fewer than a thousand daily cases have been counted since the 938 positives on 18 May. It is a reduction of 31 compared to the day before and 811 less than seven days ago.
-The Junta de Andalucía has also recorded a total of 15 deaths, four less than the previous day, two less than ago a week and that brings the total number of Covid-19 deaths in the region to 10,882, since the start of the pandemic.
-The cumulative incidence rate for the virus in Andalucía this Wednesday stands at 227 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, which is 12.4 fewer than the previous day and 80.1 down on seven days ago.
-The region has also registered a decrease of 70 Covid patients in hospital compared to Tuesday, so the total now stands at 952. There are 188 patients admitted to an intensive care unit, some 18 fewer in the last 24 hours. SPAIN

New Driving Laws & Fines to be Proposed: Spain’s General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) is looking for approval from the Spanish parliament to introduce five new fines as well as other amendments to the country’s traffic code later this month.
-Not switching off the engine when the vehicle is stationary or parked for more than 2 minutes.
-Holding a mobile phone even if you’re not using it. This summer, drivers in Spain were warned by the DGT that using mobile devices (including GPSs and headphones) while driving is already considered a punishable offence which leads to a €200 fine and the loss of 3 points off one’s driving licence.
-Surpassing speed limit when overtaking on secondary roads.
-Having a speed camera detector in your vehicle.
-Not wearing a helmet while riding an e-scooter. Since January 2021, e-scooter users have been banned from riding on the pavement, have a maximum speed limit of 25km/h and require a driving certificate, not that the evidence suggests that these measures are being policed properly across Spain. Now the DGT wants to make it compulsory for these e-riders to wear a helmet or face a penalty of €200. A strong hailstorm surprise to the region of Antequera: {Translation, summary}
-The storm season starts too early in Malaga, and this September 1st an intense hailstorm has surprised Antequera and has hit the plain around five o’clock in the afternoon.
-Although it did not last long, the ice and rain caused material damage in Antequera, Bobadilla Estación and some municipalities in the region, such as Fuente de Piedra, where the Provincial Fire Brigade had to intervene in several houses that were flooded due to the heavy rain.
-There have been floods in several central streets, premises, ground floors and garages. In addition, the ice has dented many of the vehicles that were parked in the street at that time. The hail has also reached the countryside and has stained many olive groves white. Damage has not yet been quantified.

What is C.1.2, the new Covid variant in South Africa, and should we be worried?: A new Covid variant detected in South Africa has made headlines around the world.
On Monday the National Institute for Communicable Diseases in South Africa issued an alert about the “C.1.2 lineage”, saying it had been detected in all provinces in the country, but at a relatively low rate.
A pre-print, non peer-reviewed paper published about the variant said C.1.2 “has since been detected across the majority of the provinces in South Africa and in seven other countries spanning Africa, Europe, Asia and Oceania”.
The C.1.2 lineage has drawn the attention of scientists because despite its low rate in the population, it possesses mutations within the genome similar to those seen in variants of interest and variants of concern, like the Delta variant, as well as some additional mutations. Power Struggle- Town in Madrid rebels, will stop paying for electricity, Mayor says, “Hopefully more municipalities will do the same”: {Translation, summary}
-This Wednesday, the average price on the wholesale market will stand at 132.47 euros per megawatt hour and it is difficult to predict when it will reach its peak. Fed up with these constant rises that are suffocating Spaniards, the mayor of the Madrid municipality of Batres, Víctor Manuel López, decided to suspend payments to the companies that supply energy to the town council.
-He does so in the knowledge that these companies cannot cut off electricity to the Consistory and with the hope that “more politicians” will take the same decision. “Hopefully we will have the possibility for more municipalities to join in. It is the only tool we have. Faced with so much injustice, we have decided to take the bull by the horns and put up a fight against these companies,” López told 20minutos.
-“What I am trying to achieve is that people take a step forward and we do not sit back and watch these abuses continue to be committed, which only harm domestic economies, the most vulnerable business sector and traders,” he says, and stresses that with this measure the City Council “will prioritise other payments to guarantee municipal public services”.
-In this sense, he believes: “If all citizens stopped paying their electricity bills, the pressure would be total for the electricity companies, but if only a few of them did so, they would be wiped out in a jiffy by cutting off the supply. This is not the case with public administrations.
-“I have the residents of the municipality who cannot pay for electricity. This affects the middle classes and the underprivileged very badly and, obviously, nobody is doing anything about it. Faced with government inaction, constant criticism from the opposition and the lack of leadership to give the public hope that this will be reversed, I have taken this decision,” he says.
-The Mayor stresses that, “as long as electricity prices do not fall back” to values that allow Spanish citizens a minimum essential consumption with contained costs, “we are going to suspend payments to the electricity companies”. “If we do nothing, we will always be like this, subordinated to the most powerful, to these titans of the Spanish economy”, says the mayor of this town, referring not only to the electricity companies, but also to the banks, telephone companies and multinationals.

ANDALUCIA

Yellow weather warnings for heavy rain and storms in Andalucía: Six regions in the northeast of the Spanish mainland are on a yellow weather alert this Tuesday (31 August) for heavy rain and storms, reports the State Meteorological Agency, Aemet. And it warns that, in Andalucía, the situation will be ‘complicated’ on Wednesday due to the approach of an Atlantic low-pressure front to the west of the peninsula.
At the moment, Aemet has activated yellow weather alerts on Wednesday in the provinces of Jaén, Granada and Almeria (in inland areas in the last two).
“In Malaga province there is a probability of storms in the afternoon, being more likely in some areas of the Ronda and Antequera regions. They may be accompanied by hail.” Full article: http://www.surinenglish.com/national/202108/31/yellow-weather-warnings-heavy-20210831111721.html

UK

UK health service is launching a seven-day Vaccination Data Resolution Service as up to 700,000 vaccine passports hit by NHS blunders:
-Hundreds of thousands of jab records contain errors, leaving some double-jabbed people without proof they need to travel.
-Ministers have said Covid passes – already used for travel to dozens of countries – will become compulsory for entry to nightclubs and large venues by the end of next month. But hundreds of thousands of vaccine records have now been found to contain errors, including those which have left double-jabbed people without the proof they need.
-Experts said the figures from NHS Digital were likely to be the tip of the iceberg, with many errors only coming to light when holidaymakers checked the NHS app and found their pass was missing.
-The NHS is set to launch a Vaccination Data Resolution Service in order to deal with the growing crisis.

Attackers Can Remotely Disable Fortress Wi-Fi Home Security Alarms: The Fortress S03 Wi-Fi Home Security System is a do-it-yourself (DIY) alarm system that enables users to secure their homes and small businesses from burglars, fires, gas leaks, and water leaks by leveraging Wi-Fi and RFID technology for keyless entry.
New vulnerabilities have been discovered in Fortress S03 Wi-Fi Home Security System that could be potentially abused by a malicious party to gain unauthorized access with an aim to alter system behavior, including disarming the devices without the victim’s knowledge, and changing the alarm notification email address.
Rapid7 said it notified Fortress Security of the bugs on May 13, 2021, only for the company to close the report 11 days later on May 24. In light of the fact that the issues continue to persist, it’s recommended that users configure their alarm systems with a unique, one-time email address to work around the IMEI number exposure. China limits children to 3 hours of online gaming a week: Minors in China can only play games between 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays, weekends and on public holidays starting Sept. 1, according to a notice from the National Press and Publication Administration.
The gaming restrictions are part of an ongoing crackdown on technology companies, amid concerns that technology firms — many of which provide ubiquitous messaging, payments and gaming services — may have an outsized influence on society.
