Storage needed: Can you help El Valle Drama Group? We urgently need storage for our stage and scenery, anywhere coastal or inland will do. The set is 2.2m high and 1m wide, but can be stored upright or flat, and the stage is in 0.5m by 2m blocks. In all we are looking for 2.2m by 1.5m, either wall to wall or floor to ceiling. If you have an end of a garage or underbuild you can spare, we would really appreciate it. The kit only comes out twice a year, so regular access won’t be needed. Sadly we are a small charitable group, and can’t afford to pay, but you would get 2 free tickets to each meal and show. If you have seen our shows and would like to help us continue, please contact Steve at steveheugh@yahoo.co.uk

SPAIN
Contradicting projections of high power bills thru March 2022, Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez says, ‘When 2021 is over, consumers will have paid the same for electricity as they did in 2018’: EL PAÍS Interview
Question: In recent days the government has conveyed a sensation of powerlessness in the face of the rise in the cost of electricity. Do you really not have any room for maneuver in order to control this rise?
Answer: The government is taking charge of the concern among citizens. And we are working on a plan to reach a concrete commitment, and that is that by the end of 2021 Spaniards will look back and see that they have paid a similar and comparable amount on their electricity bills as they did in 2018. That is the objective and the commitment: that all citizens with average consumption by the end of 2021 pay a similar and comparable amount as they paid in 2018, logically discounting inflation.
Q. And how are you going to do that? What instruments do you have?
A. It is important to clarify in this debate that one thing is the progress of the wholesale price in the market and another is your electricity bill. We pay our bills monthly. What doesn’t make sense is to look at the debate on a daily basis, because we don’t pay our bills daily. What the government can do is to cushion the changes in that wholesale price. First, with structural reforms, and with a solid commitment to renewable energies – not just due to issues of climate change, but also because they are cheaper. The electricity future markets are already saying that, thanks to renewables, Spain will have lower prices than France or Germany. What’s more, we have reduced VAT [sales tax] from 21% to 10%. This is benefitting 28 million consumers, and 2.8 million companies. It means a reduction in the state’s revenues of €1.4 billion. That absorbs 12% of the change in your bill. Thirdly, there is the protection of the most vulnerable consumers with social protection, with a ban on cutting off electricity supply for those who can’t pay or with energy vouchers. We are protecting 1.1 million consumers. What’s more, we have a plan to define a minimum-usage level in the areas of electricity and energy. And finally, the government has taken measures in this fourth area to revise the additional profits of the power companies. We have set aside €650 million that were destined for the electricity companies in order to divert them to consumers. We are going to take measures to guarantee that objective: that Spaniards, when they see what they have paid on their electricity bills in 2021, see that it is the same or comparable to the figure that they paid in 2018, not counting inflation. MALAGA
Body of missing British musician Jonathan ‘Pix’ Pickford found in Almogia: Authorities have found the lifeless body of man, during their for search for the British musician, Jonathan ‘Pix’ Pickford, who was reported missing on 29 August.
Jo Ramsay-Whale, a friend of Pix, whose social media post sparked the initial hunt, posted an update this Monday (6 September) on Facebook saying, “He has been found, in the area of his van. He’s not alive. Thanks to all who helped to find him x”
Pickford was well-known for singing and playing lead guitar with the band GU!R! in the Axarquia area. He hadn’t been seen since he was supposed to drive from the La Viñuela area to his home on the coast in Torre del Mar.
He had been driving a white Citroen Berlingo van and accompanied by his two, large dogs, which were found in the Los Mora area, some eight kilometres from Almogia in Malaga province.
The body of the British musician was found at 10.30am on one of the banks of the La Oliva stream, in Los Moras area, some 300 metres from where his van – and dogs – were found on Friday. The Guardia Civil will now be in charge of investigating the circumstances of Pickford’s death. Photo:Jo Ramsay-Whale/FB. UK
UK introduces new car sticker requirement for driving in Spain:
If you intend to drive your British vehicle in Spain – or anywhere else in the EU – you will now need a “UK” sticker on your car.
This replaces the GB sticker or magnet that was previously needed when driving abroad, and the UK government guidance states: “If you have a GB sticker, cover or remove it.”
The new rule will come into effect on September 28th, 2021 for British registered cars driving in the EU, with the exception of Ireland, which does not require a sticker or magnet.
The difference between Great Britain and the UK is the inclusion of Northern Ireland – GB refers only to England, Scotland and Wales while UK includes England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Clearly displaying the country of origin of your vehicle is an international requirement and if you are stopped by Spanish police without one you can be issued with an on-the-spot fine (although it’s unclear how bothered Spanish police will be about the intricacies of UK vs GB).
