Email Scam – Warning

Today we received an email purporting to be a county court summons, it was, unusually, addressed to me by name and asked me to open an attachment to see the details. As usual there were all sorts of things wrong with it when I thought about it, but like most people an apparent ‘court summons’ worried me at first. We deleted it without opening the attachment and googled to find it is a known scam originating in America. The email is in English, addresses you by name and threatens that the case will be heard without you if you do not attend. If you get this do not open the attachment, it contains a ‘trojan horse’ virus which can allow remote access to your computer to steal personal and financial information.

If you have opened such an email attachment take you computer offline and run a good virus checker at once or see a computer specialist if you need help.

business. Very limited English, but if you have some Spanish you
will get along fine. If you do approach him, mention my name.
I have used them twice, the last being a week ago, and the work has
been of a high quality, with an excellent finish, the price very
reasonable, and all completed in time quoted. On both occasions when I
arrived to collect the car at the time arranged, it was ready and
waiting for me. No oversprays or remains of polish.
They were recommended to me by Simon of Talleres Simon, just up the
road, whom I trust totally with all mechanical and servicing work

The best paint shop in the area is Lucas Pinturas, Pol Amaya, Torrox Costa. They are very professional, reasonably priced and always do an excellent job.

I highly recommend Antonio who’s family owns MAYVI which is located in the Sayalonga parking lot. We were going to trade in our 2007 Black OPEL Astra. Antonio has been servicing it for years. I was going to have him touch up all the campo “dings” and he asked me why?

Your car is in great shape, runs well and has low mileage. So he offered to paint the whole car which included replacing all the rotted weather strips, faded plastic light fixtures, etc. All for a very reasonable price and even repainted it with not only black but with metal flake in the paint at no extra cost! What’s on- Music during Artwalk Wed 23, Thurs 24, Sat 26 & Sun 27 March 2016 Competa

An art trail along 18 locations with works by 28 International artists. This year musicians will perform their live music! On Wednesday at various locations, each in their own style will show their own sound. In the evening at 8p.m. live music by English singer-songwriter Keith James.

On Thursday, musicians will gather to play together during lunch time at the plaza Almijara. On Sunday evening 8p.m. there is a performance at the Cortijo Paco. Peter Kox a professional Belgium trumpettist plays along with two Spanish musicians. It will be a mix of jazz, blues, bosa nova and other latin stuff with fresh improvisations. 5,- entrance in the Cortijo.

On Wednesday 23, Thursday 24, Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th March, 11:00 to 19:00, you will see a wide diversity of art in different locations in Competa. Artists and craftsmen will be present and happy to talk about their work, inspiration, vision and techniques. This art walk is growing every year – an event which many people look forward to. Artists living in and near the village take part but also artists from other countries come, especially for this art event. There is really so much to see and to experience! Paintings, drawings, textile art, ceramic art, bronze and metal sculptures, turned wood and silver jewelry will be shown. Also there are workshops & demonstrations given. If the weather is nice you can enjoy stunning views of the mountains and the sea. There are many restaurants with good quality food, like the Spanish, Moroccan and international cuisine and there are also many lively bars. And one can find local souvenirs & specialties.

A number of artists have given children a creative workshop in the primary school.

This year’s theme: “how to deal with animals.” The works will be shown at various locations.If you are looking for good quality arts & crafts & a good atmosphere, the Artwalk is THE place to be! Just to let you all know that the Camino De Rey will hopefully be opening again in the middle of April, there will then be a small charge, no one knows exactly how much yet, but we will keep you informed.

In the meantime we are still open with our offer of 2 nights B&B with 1 night 3 course meal with wine for 100€.

There is lots to do around here and for the more adventurous we can arrange a guided tour of the natural parque of el Chorro and the Camino area on a quad bike, 100€ for 2 persons with a guide. great birthday present for the man in your life!!!

Antequera has the most churches than any other town in Spain and El Torcal (or Fred Flintstone land, as my grandchildren call it) are close to us.

Tuesday 22^nd March – Coach Excursion to Gibraltar. Why not join Lux Mundi, Torre del Mar and visit Gibraltar, a chance to take a cable car to the top of the Rock, see the unique Barbary Apes. Visit the upper Rock nature reserve, where you will find the Historic tunnels dating from 1779-1783 and St. Michael´s Cave. Both of these have guided tours. In the town can be seen the Gibraltar Museum, Government House and in the Southern area are key historical sites. All information may be obtained from the tourist office, or an excellent alternative way of seeing the sights is by hiring a taxi, whose drivers are very knowledgeable and will explain the interesting, historical life of the Rock. It is also an opportunity to purchase duty free Items and typical English items of food, etc. from the Morrisons super market. Ticket price 12 Euros available at the Centre. What’s on- Lux Mundi, Torre del Mar coming excursions April & May

Wednesday 13^th April – Coach Excursion to Salobreña & Kitty Harri´s Sculpture Garden. Lux Mundi, Torre del Mar invite you to join friends on a coach excursion to visit the town of Salobreña situated on the Costa Tropical, whose history stretches back 6000 years. You will climb the very steep hill to visit the old part of the town where the Moorish castle built in the 10^th century is situated, which you will be able to visit provided it has re-opened after renovation, entrance ticket included. You can also see the Mudejar 16th century church, Iglesia de Nuestra Senora del Rosario which is built on top of the old mosque. There will also be free time to have lunch.

After lunch you will re-join the coach for a drive up the valley in the direction of the village of Otivar to visit the Kitty Harri´s Sculpture gardens set in two acres, which straddle a mountain ridge that projects into the Valle Tropical (Tropical Valley). There are 150 plus artworks to see and the gardens are continuously evolving, containing many species of palms, shrubs and trees from around the world. There are magnificent views, north to the Almijara and Cazulas mountain ranges, south to the Mediterranean Sea and on a clear day the Rif mountains of Africa. The entrance fee and refreshments which they serve are included. Ticket price per person 29 Euros available at the Centre. Proceeds for fundraising. Departure times: Viñuela (Football Pitch) 8.40h, Torre del Mar (Bus Station) 9.00h, Caleta (opposite Vets) 9.10h, Algarrobo (Lidl) 9.15h.

Tuesday & Wednesday 3^rd & 4^th May – Coach Excursion to Cordoba Patios. Please come and join friends of Lux Mundi, Torre del Mar on a 2 day/ 1 night coach excursion to see the Festival of the Cordoba Patios. This is a contest of patios and crosses that was first started in 1918, where house owners of the city decorate their homes with beautiful flowers and plants in order to win the prestigious awards presented by the municipality. The patios are in various parts of the city, close to the Jewish quarter and Cathedral and the finest example is found in the Palacio de Viana.

The first day you will stop for breakfast on the way to Cordoba where you will arrive at approximately 11.00h. You will check in to the 3* Hotel Selu, which is situated about a 10 minutes walk to the Cathedral. The rest of the day is free to discover the city and have dinner.

After breakfast on the second day there will be a guided tour in English of the patios, after which there will be free time to have lunch and the coach will depart from Cordoba at 16.30h. Ticket price for a double room 95 Euros per person, single room 115 Euros available at the Centre. This includes the hotel on a bed and breakfast basis, guided tour, coach and insurance. Proceeds for fundraising. Departure times Viñuela (Football Pitch) 7.10h, Algarrobo (Lidl) 7.35h, Caleta (vets) 7.40h, Torre del Mar (Bus Station) 7.50h.

What’s on – Lux Mundi, Fuengirola April coming excursion and event

Wednesday 13^th April – Coach Excursion to Comares and Colmenar. Please come and join friends of Lux Mundi,Fuengirola on a coach excursion to 2 white villages in the Axarquia area of the Costa del Sol. Comares is situated on a cliff over 725 meters above sea level, with wonderful views of the Sierra de Tejeda and the Velez Malaga valley down to the sea. Its history dates back to pre-Roman times and the main traces of occupancy are Arabic. The town fell to the Mores to the Christians in 1487.

You will arrive in Comares at approximately 11.00h where you will have free time for lunch and can follow the ceramic footprints which show you the way through the very narrow streets of the village to visit the watch tower, ancients town walls, water storage tanks, inscribed stonework, cemetery and the many natural viewing points where you can admire the breath taking views to Velez Malaga and inland, the snow caped mountain ranges of Tejada and Almijara.

You will then depart Comares at 14.00h driving across the Viñuela reservoir embankment and through the beautiful country side to the village of Colmenar, stopping for coffee on the way. Here you will visit the Honey Museum, where you will learn about how the bees produce the honey and a chance to try some of the different types of honey which is for sale. You will depart for Fuengirola at 17.30h. Ticket price 22 Euros available at the Centre. Departure times Feria Ground 8.55h or Bull Ring 9.00h.

Thursday 14^th April – Quiz Night. . Please come and enjoy our Quiz Night at the Lux Mundi, Fuengirola, and Centre. Team up with friends and pit your wits in this fun quiz. A light hearted evening which includes nibbles and one drink. Bar available and there will be a prize for the winning team! Ticket price 4 Euros available at the Centre. Proceeds to fund raising. Time 18.00h for 18.30h.

Desperate Dog….

This beautiful dog has been abandoned in Cómpeta and urgently needs a home or foster. Action for Animals have had him neutered, but without a foster family or refuge to take him to, he has no option but to stay on the streets unless someone can offer him a temporary place to stay or a permanent new home. He’s a beautiful dog and would make a lovely pet. Please contact Nina on 660586040 if you’d like more information or can offer any help

Chihuahua (girl) Available for Adoption

We used to run a dog rescue in the uk but closed it and moved to Spain in January as my wife’s health declined. However, we currently have a little chihuahua girl pup that was in a Spanish pet shop smelly and crying so my wife bought her (though she has since realised that it’s the norm here often so no longer goes in pet shops!). She is now 3 months old- has gained weight lovely (1.5kg and not expected to go over 4kg) and been vet checked, worm treated, flea treated, vaccinated etc at our lovely local vets.

She has been lead trained and off lead at our villa and there is a 20% discount for her spaying when she’s 6 months with our vets.

She will also have a passport.

She’s used to young children, cats and dogs so now just needs a forever home. She is a very happy, bouncy, loving girl who loves to play with her toys.

We called her Lola and she also has bowls/lead/collar- If you are interested in adopting her please email me on – pajones27 @ hotmail.co.uk

There would need to be a house check and vet reference. Also a contract to say you agree to spay- it is very dangerous for small dogs to have pups and there are enough dogs needing homes in the world so she is NOT for breeding and we would expect to stay in touch. Recommendation Tree pruning – Competa area

From a Digamextra mention on 12/03 from Phil McEvoy (phillymc @ fastmail.fm), I contacted Phil, who in turn made an appointment for Samuel (628 441 205) to come to my property to prune and give advice on fruit trees (orange, mango, nispero, avocado, olive and almond) and teach me how to do it in the future.

A VERY helpful young man, who made sure that I was confident with pruning before he left.

He also fully pruned 3 large and neglected olive trees and a number of almonds. From my experience of spending a morning with Samuel, I feel capable of doing this myself in the future.

Although Samuel only speaks Spanish, we were able to communicate and understand each other very well.

I can highly recommend his work and attitude.

Very reasonably priced work also.

Legal challenge on exclusion from EU Referendum

A legal challenge has been launched over the rule which prohibits UK ex-pats, who have not lived in the country for more than 15 years, from voting in General Elections and the forthcoming referendum on EU membership.

Sad End to the Story of the Pig

I thought some readers may be interested in hearing about the fate of the pig, the following is as related to me by some Spanish acquaintances, these people having become concerned about the welfare of the pig called the police who duly arrived and found the pig in a distressed condition and informed the owner that they were calling Animal Protection and left, before the protection people arrived if I understand the gesture correctly the pig was killed , they suggested two reasons why this happened firstly that the owner did not want to pay vets bills and secondly that he did not want officials looking too closely at his horses ? Whatever the reason the pig is no longer there, the horses remain and appear to be healthy and are cared for . Hayden

Amazon Fire Stick – Can anyone help?

My son sent me an Amazon Fire Stick from the U.K. which he had loaded with the appropriate programmes. I have followed the instructions and plugged it in to the T.V. and typed in my Jazztel clave. I am getting a notice on screen saying

Jazztel DBC8 signal strength very good, scaning”. Then another notice pops up saying “Not in Range,disconnected”.

Can anyone tell me if I am doing something wrong and offer any advice?

Recommendation –Opticians Services.

I know people have been recommending opticians. I have been having problems with my gas permeable contact lenses. I went to Carlos Pastor who said it was not his speciality, but rang Federopticos Rojo, who agreed to help me there and then! He does not speak English, but sorted me out in about 15 minutes, with a further check up in the afternoon. His office is not grand, he doesn’t wear a white coat, but he really knows his stuff!

Recommendation –Phone Repairs etc.

During an electrical storm recently, whilst charging our iphone on an unprotected supply, a power surge blew the battery.
Jason, on 695 318 587 situated in Burriana Properties, Nerja, was extremely helpful and quickly ordered and installed a new (and genuine iphone) battery, also repairing the damaged charger input, all for a very reasonable cost. We would highly recommend him.
NB. We bought a surge protector ‘tower’ (which takes three or two pin plugs) from the little shop just inside Nerja SuperSol for 25euros after that!

Dog Needs Permanent Home

My name is Chico and I am castrated Podenco, approximately 1.5 years old, weighing 11 kilos. I’ve had all my shots and I have a passport to travel in the EU. However, since being rescued by Axarquia Animal Rescue in August 2015, I have been spending my days in a kennel and lately at a foster home, but I so want to have my very own family to love. Lost Dog Rescued

This small podenco with an emerald green collar was found on the circumvalacion close to the Mirador de Torrox apartments on Monday evening, she was almost run over twice so I brought her home with me. Dogs on Beaches – Opinion (The Final Post on this subject)

In reply to the post that dogs should never be on beaches used by sunbathers (those lying around getting skin cancer).

I do not condone leaving one’s dog excrement on the beach or anywhere else.

If the authorities would create dog friendly beaches then people could avoid

them if they wanted to.

How many thousands of kilometres of beaches are there in Spain? Yet I do not know of one where dogs are allowed.

Has the person who posted ever looked at the human mess that is all over the beaches in far greater abundance than dog mess? There are hypodermic needles, soiled nappies, plastic bags, pizza and other fast food containers, vomit, broken bottles etc, etc. Most of the rubbish is non-biodegradable and some of it is quite dangerous.

I have seen women letting their children poo on the beach and not pick it up, but all of this seems to be O.K.

There is room for us all and we should share it responsibly.

Recommendation –Casa Magel

Having read positive reviews of Casa Magel on Digamextra, we decided to book two nights B and B last week and we had a thoroughly enjoyable time. Maggie and Eli, our hosts, were welcoming and friendly and booked us onto the walk on the caminito del rey. Our room was very comfortable and Maggie’ s food is lovely. Their house has magnificent views of the mountains and is very well placed for trips to El Torcal, the wolves park and El Chorro.

A lovely place to stay and we will certainly be going back.

Amicorum is a different choir.

Because our rehearsal space is generously donated by one of our members (as is the keyboard), music is generally sourced free of copyright from the internet, and our musical director (an ex musician and academic) charges no fees, we pay no subscriptions. We rehearse a wide range of music, from 16th century Italian and English madrigals to 20th century spirituals and art songs (such as ‘All in the April Evening’).
The rehearsal session lasts two hours without a break and is quite light-hearted, after which we enjoy tea and refreshments including each other’s company. Perhaps what marks us out from other choirs in the area is that most of us read music to a greater or lesser extent, although some of us freely admit that it is going on for half a century since we last read music!

3 Lovely Pups Looking For a Home

We still have 3 lovely little pups looking for a home out of the original 9 that were dumped on our doorstep on January 3rd. Miko and Mimi are just like twin brother and sister with playful personalities who love cuddles. Sherlock has an inquisitive nature and is still the smallest of the bunch. All three are now 12 weeks old and have been fully vaccinated except for the rabies jab, which must be done by their new owner along with the microchip. Sherlock is just under 5 kilos while Mimi is nearly 6 kilos and we think they will only be about 10-12 kilos when fully grown so they will be about Jack Russell size. Truly Amazing Male Dog – Blind Since Birth

Pancho (AAR 1207) came into our lives in December. A medium-sized podenco with a super soft coat, he’s under 2 years old and while we’ve learned that – he’s been blind since birth – he has confidence and navigates our large, terraced garden with relative ease. He is truly one of the easiest foster dogs we’ve ever had. We just don’t know why he hasn’t yet been adopted. He has mixed very well with our other dogs, male and female. Dogs on Beaches – Opinion

Dogs should never be allowed on a beach used by sunbathers. Their foul excrement, left untouched by too many inconsiderate dog owners, to be found stuck to sandals, or beach towels. The ‘mess’ that is the Torrox Costa Paseo, testament to how many dog owners are happy to ignore their pooches daily do’s.

We feel that we need to inform anyone that has blocked drains that the solution is to call the experts in and “Waynes Drains” are certainly the ones to call as we had a very difficult blockage and no access to the drain , it was detected by Mike and Rob with there tracking device , they removed.

a tile in the hallway and unblocked the drain , and replaced the tile with one that I had spare (luckily). they then constructed a drain access outside complete with metal lid and replaced the tiles . the result was perfect and there cleanliness excellent

Recommendation –Bouquet for Man with Van Transport Service

My family and I, in Velez, second the motion!! We had a tedious move a few days back and Merv provided the much needed help of transporting and moving heavy items. His professional manner of being prompt with his replies and friendly and courteous throughout were impressive!!

The Good Stuff café in Nerja makes their own pies, pasties, cakes and quiches, serving a number of vegetarian options. They make a range of delicious salads to accompany them too. It is at the top of C/ Chaparil where it meets with the main road, just a little further along after the ‘bumpy’ bridge where El Puente restaurant and Supersol is. They are shut on Sundays but open Mon-Sat 9am until 8pm so we go there for an early supper sometimes

I have Windows 10 installed and have had a problem printing from the internet. Following a recent recommendation on DigameXtra I e-mailed Peter Mus for help. I received an immediate reply followed by a series of questions and answers related to my problem.

Lost Dog…..

This dog turned up at our house of Friday, he was hungry and thirsty, and full of ticks and fleas. We have fed him and given him water.,
He is very friendly and used to people, we live in the area of Las Cuevas , so I wondered if anyone knows where he has come from.

Further to your search for a caterer – we would recommend Restaurante las Fuentes at Oasis de Capistrano. They have been in existence since 1999 and are extremely experienced in ad-hoc lunches for both local and tour groups. They are more than willing to design a buffet or cooked meal to your budgetary and culinary requirements.

Recommendation -Re-register car in Spain

May I recommend Guillermo Gonzalez (Willian to his friends, contact E-mail: gandiacorp@hotmail.com) that took over the job of the ‘Classic registration’ of my 1985 Mercedes Benz after an eighteen month failed delay caused by Gestors!!

William was precise, efficient, communicative, excellent value for money and comes highly recommended. My advice to you is ‘don’t even attempt a DIY registration’ you will get lost in the ‘administrative paper work’ of the registration authorities in Malaga who, do not like anyone !!!

We have been going every year for many years now as our

grandchildren love it.

There is ample underground parking, adjacent to the park.

The park is well laid out in clear areas and it is fascinating even

for adults who go every year!

There are a couple of restaurants and cafes on site but of course

Fuengirola has many restaurants and as the park is right in the centre of town, nowhere is too far to go.

There is of course a shop before you can leave.

Photographs are also taken as you enter the park,

which you can view as you leave, the price for the photos is acceptable and make a nice reminder.

Estimate 2-3 hours for your visit and we guarantee you will go again.

24/3 & 26/3 paper making workshop by Artist Annabel
On Thursday morning 24 March from 11am until 1pm the Artist Annabel Keatley will run the first of two papermaking workshops in the Salon de Actos Competa , as part of The ArtWalk.
Participants will learn the process of making paper by recycling their scraps and left over paper and see how they can completely ‘upgrade’ it to make beautiful sheets of decorative papers. In this workshop they will learn how to add inclusions such as flower petals and leaves, fabrics and images- as well as colour their paper and use embedding, embossing, strengthening and drying techniques.

On Saturday 26 March from 4pm to 6pm Annabel will be leading a plant papermaking workshop. Need legal advice – Urgently

Hello everyone, I hope that someone in Digame circles can help me.

I was denied a telephone account today because I seem to have been blacklisted financially (at least with telephone companies).

I resigned my telephone connection with Jazztel last lear, and was disconnected mid November. They were still taking money out of my bank in January so I blocked all payments. In addition to this the telephone company had the landline owner remove the landline so no other operator can provide ADSL service.

I know of another person who has the same companiy taking money 12 months after the account was closed.

Is there any method or form of redress or anyone who can help me restore my name and get back money taken from the account for which the company are not entitled to remove?

Any legal advice or possibilty of redress would be appreciated.

Dogs on the beach
There seems to be confusion regarding dogs being allowed to be on the beach with there owners in winter…it used to be from Oct to April or May…..obviously not in the summer. But now police are saying they cannot be on there at all…..

I am thinking of changing my electrical supplier from Endesa to Evergreen-electrica. Over the years I have had many communication problems with Endesa, also the costs for their standing service charges seem to be excessive.

We need to use the board game Snakes and Ladders in our next production, Tuesday 15th March, and are having difficulty tracking one down. Is there anyone in the Nerja area who would be happy to lend us one for the evening. We wil take good care of it but if you wish to monitor it’s use you are welcome to come along and join us for the evening. We will be presenting the last dramatised reading of this season and it will be Tony Hancock’s radio play, “The Radio Ham”, adapted for the stage and directed by Penni Wilson.

Those of you over a certain age will remember the popular Hancock series back in the 60’s and this episode is where our lugubrious hero buys a short wave radio and looks forward to a little excitement in his life. Unfortunately he gets it!

Thefts from Cars etc

I have a suggestion – keep alert – ladies put handbag in the boot with the groceries AND LOCK THE BOOT -then get into the car (having first looked at all four tyres, some time ago when I was about to drive off a con-man pointed to my rear tyre, but I had checked before getting into the car) and drive off. Check rear mirror as you leave car park area to see if you have a “tail” and then go home – continue to be alert when unloading because even if you have not been followed these nasty types could be hanging around in the area where you live. This sort of thing has been going on for years – perhaps it is getting worse but only the police/Guardia can answer that point.

E-Cigarettes

Not about Spanish law, but a word on e-cigarettes. They certainly contain less carcinogens and no carbon monoxide, but there have been reports linking a common flavouring in the fluid to bronchiolitis obliterans – otherwise known as popcorn lung. The evidence is disputed at the moment, much as it was initially with cigarettes (big money rides on the industry), but it would probably be wise to seek out vaping fluids that are diacetyl free. Ideally you should see an e-cigarette as a transition to clean lungs, not as an alternative addiction. Good luck!

My thanks to all who offered help, but I am pleased to say that they are in fact owned by someone, I went to the waste ground to take pictures as request by the animal rescue people and by pure chance ran into one of the locals who live in the shacks opposite the waste ground who was tending his horses that he keeps tethered there, it turns out that he owns the pig.

In my experience I have been called out for similar situations in the campo and urbinisation.

To find a fault when there isnt one present at the time of call out is like finding a needĺe in a haystack.

When you refer to master switch is that Main switch? Or the rcd 30mA device .

1.Main switch is for isolation and protection and total over load and short circuit of the entire installation.

2.Rcd protection is for fault current to earth protection of life .livestock and fire & equipment

3.Other circuit breakers (mcb’s )are for individual circuit protection of overload and short circuit.

Load discrimination is effective whereby the lesser load device would trip first.That’s protection of load on the design of circuit current of cable.

Ok back to the 30mA tripping .with respect to fellow electricians Spanish or other nationalaties .Did he have a test Meter to actually test the sensitivity of the rcd trip time? Sometimes they can be over sensitive and trip with less than 15mA under the designed 30mA perimeter. these fault currents can fluctuate loss to earth in the cable with or without load on them.

There could be an electrical element breaking down be it oven or water heater sometimes these cause intermittent tripping. eventually RCD trip will not reset unless they are totally disconnected or replaced.

Could be cable insulation break down which may not be visible at lighting or power points but can be detected with an insulation test meter.

Condensation drawn through damp walls into connections. can cause corrosion in the back of sockets also having water ingress in outside power points.sockets lights and junction boxes.

Lightning spikes will trip rcd’s even if not evident locally coming through the earth connection ( ground ) over voltage surges from electricity provider.

I cannot envisage Main switch tripping when not under load .most likely see evidence in fuse board of burnt marks of short circuit in the fuse board incoming and that would be expected to take out the main cartridge fuse at meter in that event.

If any digamites require my services for fault finding or installation work and price for periodic safety inspection report which I don’t believe exists here in Spain .added prevention of being inconvenienced is a plus.

You will need to have one of the shiny metal cowls that spin to eliminate the smokey room. They’re not cheap and you might need to remove the very top of the chimney brickwork in order to fit it.

We had this problem last year, renting by Lake Vinuela. When the wind was coming down the mountain from Zafaraya, the usual direction in winter, we couldn’t light a fire. The owner in the UK was asking if the chimney was blocked! Well if it was blocked, how would wind blow down??
The worst time was when the agent came round to ‘show me how to light a fire’!! The downdraught was so strong the match kept blowing out. He had to light the naptha firelighter in his hand and throw it in. All the naptha then caught light and he shut the door. Flames were coming out of the ashtray access, smoke and fumes everywhere. I had to open the door and douse the flames with water…. very messy! The agent then left.

Long story short now. It transpired that the owner had put too fine a bird mesh on the chimney top and over time the mesh was clogging up, mostly on the side away from the wind direction, so instead of passing through the chimney top and assisting in extraction, the wind was being directed down. Not obvious from the ground until I used borrowed binoculars. The mesh was changed for chicken wire and…. aqui esta!

Recommendation – Buddha House Restaurant
A couple of weeks ago we lunched at Buddha House, and were so
impressed with everything that I wrote a recommendation that was
published in Digame. But I have many times gone to a new restaurant,
thought it was great, then returned at a later date only to be sadly
disappointed.
Today we went back to Buddha, and were just as impressed as before, if
not more so. The quality of the food, the clever use of spices, the
breadth of choice on the menu, the presentation, the service, were all
beyond praise. Totally excellent, I can only say that if you like
quality Indian food, go there, as soon as you are able, and enjoy.
Long may they, and their quality, last.
Oh yes, in case you were wondering, we have no connection with Buddha,
apart from that as highly satisfied clients.

What’s on- Artwalk Wed 23, Thurs 24, Sat 26 & Sun 27 March 2016 Competa

March 2016, it’s time for the 8th Artwalk. An annual tradition when visitors come to Competa for the Easter period. On Wednesday

23, Thursday 24, Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th March, 11:00 to 19:00, you will see a wide diversity of art in different locations. Artists and craftsmen will be present and happy to talk about their work, inspiration, vision and techniques. This art walk is growing every year – an event which many people look forward to. Artists living in and near the village take part but also artists from other countries come, especially for this art event.

There is really so much to see and to experience! Paintings, drawings, textile art, ceramic art, bronze and metal sculptures, turned wood and silver jewelry will be shown. Also there are workshops & demonstrations given. If the weather is nice you can enjoy stunning views of the mountains and the sea. There are many restaurants with good quality food, like the Spanish, Moroccan and international cuisine and there are also many lively bars. And one can find local souvenirs & specialties.

A number of artists have given children a creative workshop in February. This year’s theme: “how to deal with animals.” They have worked with the animal rescue organization AAR and the works will be shown at various locations.

This year musicians will perform their live music! On Wednesday at various locations, each in their own style will show their own sound. In the evening live music by Keith James, English singer-songwriter. On thursday they will come gather to play together. On Sunday evening there is a performance at the Cortijo Paco. Peter Kox a famous Belgium trompettist plays along with two Spanish musicians. It will be a mix of jazz, blues, bosa nova and other latin stuff with fresh improvisations.

If you are looking for good quality arts & crafts & a good atmosphere, the Artwalk is THE place to be! On behalf of the artists and craftsmen of Cómpeta and the guest artists we welcome you to the 8th Art Walk!

Admission is free. The car park in the village will be open.
