I am still looking for a loving home for Kayla my 7yr old German shepherd she is a very loving dog she is fine with other dogs and cats and is good with children she is fully vaccinated and chipped and she is spayed and she has a passport so she can travel anywhere. Sand Flies
To the person who wrote about the sand flies. I have lived in the campo , with the beasts for 25 years. Two things help. One is invaluable
Firstly, buy Espirales. They are spirals that you light andd they produce smoke which keeps them away. I put one on the door step, And, if I’m having friends to dinner, i put on under the table. Just be careful not to burn your toes !
The second ; don’t swat them as you would do a normal mosquito. Look at the place where they are biting And , slowly squash it with a finger. Slowly, because it’s the pressure of air you make when you swat that warns them that they are in danger. It works every time.Pamela
Taking Adopted Dogs to UK
I came back to UK from Spain just over a year ago and helped rescues in Spain send adopted dogs to the UK and other places. I do not think things have changed re the chipping since I helped the last dog come here around a year ago. I also brought my own adopted Spanish dog with me on return to the UK.
We stopped even bothering to try and re register chips to a “new owner” in Spain via RAIA before travel – the reason – you will have to pay 15 Euros (or it was the last time I did it) and the chip IS NOT internationally linked! The paperwork can be sent to RAIA to tell them the dog is no longer in Spain as the charge is only made for “changing” the paperwork, not canceling it. We were paying unnecessary fund raised money for something that was never going to be relevant in the UK. Also, by the time RAIA got their act together, it could be 3-6 months after the dog had already gone to the UK. In one case, we sent the dog and forwarded the RAIA paperwork and registration on later, but it was totally irrelevant as it is not needed in the UK to register your dog here and is not needed at the crossing.
What happens is that the number in the passport and the number on the chip must match. As long as that is correct then there are no worries. Remember that pet transport companies will be taking dogs for owners – so the dogs are “not their dogs” so there does not have to be ANY registration match to an owner’s address or any own other address to travel, someone could just as easily be taking the dog to the UK on behalf of someone else so all that matters is that the chip inside the dog and the number on the dog’s passport match.
If someone is taking an adopted dog to the UK then what they will want is a letter from the charity/rescue group to say that you have adopted the dog:
- Letter to be on the rescue or charity’s headed paper
- The adopter’s name, addresses, contact details and phone number to be in the letter – both previous Spanish address and new UK address
- A description of the dog and the possible breed/cross breeds, colour markings etc
- The charity to state clearly they confirm the dog is a rescue dog for the purpose of registering the microchip on the UK database
- The chip number of the dog
- The dog’s passport number
- Signed by an official of the charity – with their contact number, e-mail, phone details in case it is necessary for them to be contacted.
This means when they get to the UK they can go to their new UK vet and get their dog’s chip registered with one of the chip companies here. The UK vet doesn’t do the registration like they do in Spain – the chip company does this direct with the owner. What the vet will do is scan the dog and tell the owner which of the chip companies will cover that number. The vet can give you the relevant chip company’s number to phone. Then go home and call the company.
The chip company will go through some questions with the owner on the phone – it is important for the owner to tell them that their dog is ADOPTED and you understand they will then cover him FREE OF CHARGE. This is why the owner needs a letter from the charity. The company will then send the owner the necessary paperwork to fill out and when they post it back the owner should include the adoption letter (keeping a copy of course for their own records) and they will then be sent the official confirmation that they have a dog registered with a UK chip company, and all for free.
To confirm, I have done this with my own adopted dog and a number of others I helped with adoption in the UK.

Does anyone know of any cheap long term parking north of Burgos. I will be cycling from the Spain / France border up the Atlantic side to Brittany and back in late June to mid July. Response to Advice _Dog Chipping in two countries also Travelling
In order to safeguard your dog in both Spain and the UK all you need to do is to visit your vet in the UK and have both addresses registered on the database. Our dog had been micro chipped and registered in Spain for 8 years but we spend 6 months in each country so we simply had our address in England added. We did this last summer through our vet and only had to pay a small fee to the database company.
With regard to crossing the Channel we find using the Tunnel preferable as the dog is not left on its own in the hold of a ferry.

We know that Marty has now to returned to his home and family in Florida but, we all sincerely hope that in the future we shall still continue to enjoy his presence here on Capistrano.

What Was On…Success ! – Competa Art Walk
The 8th Artwalk was a great success!
We estimate that over 2000 people visited the village to enjoy the artwork experience.
Coming from Almeria, Fuengirola, Marbella, Estapona, Malaga, Granada, Orgiva and many more towns. Many residents and tourists who come a few times a year to the village booked time especially for this event.
We had beautiful weather – never having had such a dry and sunny weather during the Art Walk days. Most artists were present and visitors enjoyed talking with them and exchanging ideas about art.
This year we also had live music in various locations. A great combination with art.
The bars and restaurants were packed. They didn’t expect so many guests for this event.
Eighteen of the participants live in or near the village, of whom most are of professional level, the other 10 were invited. Some guest artists came from the Costa del Sol or Costa Tropical – like English Annabel Keatley (Salobrena) Anouk Slegers (Marbella) George Kowzan (Malaga). From further away came Dutch artist Merel Holleboom – all the way by van from Holland to Spain with her drawing machine and many other artworks from colleagues. A lot of people enjoyed making a ‘monoprint’ with her installation!
Iraqi painter Saad Ali came from Valencia, he brought his colorfull paintings on panels and canvas. Dutch Karin Hoogesteger and Danish Ane Meiert Folke and Martin Nybo Jensen came by plane.
There was so much different art to see – abstract, figurative paitnings and drawings, sculptures, jewelry, furniture and so on. There was also a papermaking workshop and a demonstration of raku-firing and silver casting. For young people there were two kids arts workshops.
Artists did have a great time, meeting the interested visitors and meeting colleague artists and did have (some) sells as well. Visitors were pleasantly surprised by the quality and variety of the art on display, loving the vibrant and creative ambiance in the village. Many thought the trip to the village was well worth it, despite all the bends to journey up into the mountains. Paul Wind will be making a documentary about the event. All of us are looking forward to that report. Next year we’ll go for the 9th time!
