I suggest you list your programme of events & send it Tues/ Weds for inclusion in the Thursday Issue.

I will not be able to publish your entries unless you have included your name, location & contact information ( phone number &/or email address)

I had 8 (!) people email me today without this information. Unbelievable!               Faulty Submissions.

If I have time, I can email you to ask for corrections, extra info. etc. etc.

Choir – New Term Starting 

Do you like singing?  Would you like to join a choir?  We are inviting new singers to become members of the local, long-established choir, Coral Coraxalia under the leadership of Eusebio Pita.

Would you like your little one to learn how to handle and care for a puppy or dog? This Easter in Nerja Canis Connection will have a special camp for the week where your little ones can learn just that, and with extra special doggies from APA Nerja which all have that special story. The future is to teach our young ones that it is not correct to mistreat animals, it is not correct to abandon them when not wanted and what can happen if you don’t castrate your dog and you end up with a litter of unwanted puppies. Most importantly this camp will teach your little ones what is involved in taking a dog into your family and all the needs they may have. Curly (alias Penny) – A Very Big Thank You!

Many of you may recognise Curly, who until recently was loose on the streets of Competa. I know that she stole the hearts of many people but remained at large as she was just too nervous to be caught. Well last month Wills and I rescued Curly from the Perrera where she had been taken following darting by the police. Eleanor Fearn was very instrumental in getting her out and I could not have done it without her. Ten days later Curly (now named Penny) gave birth to 11 puppies, 9 of which survived.

Since then I have been overwhelmed by the kindness of people who have helped contribute towards the expenses involved with the puppies, especially as the response from a local charity was disappointing. We now have enough to vaccinate and chip all the puppies when the time comes. However, there are many ongoing costs and I am immensely grateful to all those who have given money or left gifts with NaturVets for us.

It has really helped us as we have retired to Competa on a limited income.

The whole experience of rescuing Curly has brought me into contact with many compassionate dog-lovers in Competa who care deeply but do not really know how to help. I am trying to start a network of such people and will publish an article in Grapevine in May on how this might help the dogs and how such a network would work. The organisation will be called LIGHTHOUSE.

Our car was valued on webuyanycar.com at £350.

So we decided with its lowish mileage and good reliability to bring it to Spain, have plates changed to Spanish and get it a good clean.

We used Warren as we had seen people’s recommendations here on Digamextra.

Well, he didn’t just clean it – he gave it a complete makeover inside and out and under the bonnet.

The soft top cleaned, re-coloured and treated as was the interior leather and carpets.

Headlights were changed to comply with the law here.

We are delighted with the outcome, we feel like we have a new car not one almost 20years old.

Hello, my name is Chica and I am a nine year old white and ginger cat.
My humans have to go to the UK for July and August and they don’t want to leave me in a cattery because I like lots of cuddles and human companionship.

I can’t stay in our apartment for that length of time and they don’t think I would cope with the journey.
I am looking for a temporary home where I will be the only pet in a safe environment with some outside space but unable to escape.

Breathalyses

A pop up advert on my computer just informed me that in 2017 it is obligatory for every driver to carry a breathaliser as well as a yellow jacket, triangles etc.  You could lose your licence for not having one.  This is the first I have heard of this, is it true?  And where do you buy one anyway?  I would have thought there would have been a lot more fuss made about it, I remember when the yellow jackets came in, everybody was talking about them.

Home wanted for Cat

This male cat age around two has been neutered by AAR.

He has no owner and lives in a small village and is fed with others.

However whilst I have been in England he has moved into my house. I have house sitters caring for my elderly cats. My dog -who is in kennels – will attack him when we and he return.

My old cats fight this cat and my dog will think he is protecting them.

The ginger cat is very friendly and likes other dogs and cats. He just wants a home. I would pay for his inoculations and chipping.

The course is flat and not an overly hard course to play but there is water so bring floating balls!!

In brand new condition.

I bought this bike on a let’s get fit whim last July from Decathlon.

Since then I have ridden it about three times around my village and, due to my bad back, it has remained unused from then on, and I have decided to call it a day!

I’m not sure of its measurements but I’m 6ft (1m 80) tall and it fits me.  There are numerous extras including an unused helmet, a gel saddle cover, lights, water bottle and holder, a pump, mudguards, side stand, tool bag and a sturdy padlock. All the extras are B-Twin brand.  It has 21 gears operated by twist grip and front suspension.

The whole deal cost me 280 euros (I still have the invoice) but I will accept 170 euros.

Last Minute Dog Sitting Request

I had planned to travel to UK today, Thursday, evening returning Monday night late, but at the last moment have no-one to take care of my dogs.

They do not do well in kennels.

I had a huge response when I asked for help for this trip about a month ago but can’t trace the replies. I wonder if there is anyone available to have two small dogs, preferably at their house, or stay at mine?

They are unused to being left indoors for more than 2 hours at a stretch, love to come out in the car, and need at least 1 walk a day (usually off-lead with me).

I would be very grateful for any ‘leads’ (!!) even at this late stage. I really am reluctant to cancel this trip for family reasons.

Reference non renewal – I have been on Padron for 25 years but every two years have to check that I am still registered.  I think it is to keep the information up to date and a bit like pensions confirm that I have not dropped off the mortal coil………..some councils might do a 5 year check……….Spanish life varies a great deal from town to town and province to province.  Joan

Whilst yesterdays post by Sid is technically correct, it begs the question ” Why would you not sign on the Padron” ?

It is true that the money each Town Hall receives is partly based on the number of citizens registered on the Padron, but this isn’t a subsidy, its an economic necessity.

It helps provide many of the local services, healthcare, schools, libraries, and importantly for property owners, police and fire services.

I am sure that many readers of Digamextra have heard of the many recent burglaries in the area (around Competa), and the fires that often occur during the summer months.

Without the money generated by being on the Padron, many of these services would be reduced.

The money received also goes towards looking after the beaches, the roadsides and roundabouts, and keeping these tidy is to everyone’s benefit.

You will also need a Padron document to register a car.

I would urge every property owner to register even if they don’t live here full time.

In reference to Sidney.

Read Article 16. It clearly says resident card, or non resident card holders.

Article 15 does not mention non residents cannot register.

If you are resident, or non resident, and living in accommodation, you are paying for utilities and bin rubbish removal. This entitles you to register at the local municipality.

In the case of non residents, they need a copy of their passport, besides copies of rental agreement/deeds, NIE.

The recent article posted says that there is no longer a requirement to ‘renew’ registration on the padron every 5 years.

I understand that there never has been a requirement to do so. Agree some town halls make up their own rules and maybe they might just be confusing the issue with non EU residents.

Free Table and Chair

Table: handmade table, extremely sturdy, would make a great workbench, if the surface is redone it could also make a nice table for inside the house, not dis-assembled, so need to take it as is. If no takers then it goes in the burn pile, but that seems a waste to me so thought I’d try this first.

Chair: came as part of a set with some couches, but don’t need it and using up space. Material is in great shape, no holes or rips or tears that I’m aware of. Has been re-oiled a few times to keep the leather soft and has rarely been sat in.

Both table and chair are free to whomever is willing to come to my house to take them away. I live just south of the town of Molvizar (just north of Salobrena). Note – access road requires either a 4×4 or a car with a bit of ground clearance.

Padron – Correction

The information posted Tuesday is not correct.

Apart from exceptional circumstances, there is no longer any requirement

for EU citizens to renew their Padron every 5 years.

non residents are not allowed to, whatever the local Town Hall may say.

This will be held at our meeting place, Bar La Vega and all are welcome.

On 11th March Coraxalia Choir took part in ‘Cantemos’, the first International Choir Festival in Granada at the Manuel de Falla Concert Hall.  They performed Mozart’s Requiem which was accompanied by the Orchestra of the province of Granada.
On Coraxalia’s individual performance a professional music  critic reported:
“It was a “Susan Boyle “moment for the audience when they saw a somewhat ‘mature’ choir performing.  They were not expecting to hear such a fabulous sound and it made the audience sit up and take notice! “The feeling of teamwork shone in the performance of Coraxalia.” “Theirs was a  very professional, controlled and musical interpretation, which was consistent throughout their program.” “The general sound of the choir was very rich, without individual voices standing out or interrupting the flow of music, with a balanced use of the rubato.” “They showed that they really enjoyed performing together.” “They had the most enjoyable musical program of the night.” “Excellent tuning and good interpretive taste”. “As for the Requiem, the overall sound was phenomenal.” “I could have been listening to any professional choir.”
