Therapist Legislation

Following Jane Kirk’s recent notification that therapists must be licensed to work in Spain and have the appropriate registration, I wonder if any readers can provide more information on what these criteria are and how to access them. I completely understand the reasoning as it is essential to be able to check qualifications and professional integrity. I am a British Counsellor and Psychotherapist with 14 years experience intending to set up a practice and provision of personal development groups in Torrox Pueblo. I am nearing the end of the process of reinstating my membership with the Bristish Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists after a voluntary lapse (to save money), seeking Professional Indemnity Insurance in Spain as British firms don’t seem to insure outside the UK (another hurdle) and sourcing online supervision, etc. etc. which is already quite some hurdles and finance to overcome. My research so far seems to indicate that therapists on the Spanish register need to have a degree or higher. I have a European Diploma following four years of study but am afraid that this might not be sufficient here. Quite surprising.

I would welcome the experience of anyone else setting up a similar practice. Dawn        imalaydee @ hotmail.co.uk

(Clarification: DigameXtra never said, “therapists must be licensed to work in Spain and have the appropriate registration.” We do not provide legal advice. DigameXtra submission rules  state “I will accept Ads for therapies, medical treatments etc.etc.  ONLY if the person concerned can provide a Licence Number to operate here in Spain”. This is a widely accepted internet practice to limit the responsibility of the editor. )
