Retirement Home Needed for this Yorkie

Can anyone offer this 12yr old Yorkie a forever home locally to live out his Golden years?

He was entered into the dog pound by his owner last Weds, due to serious ill health she could no longer keep him and was devastated to let him go.

I have been fostering him since he was released last Thursday and there is a possibility he can go to Germany but it would be lovely if we could save him the long journey.

He has a few age related health ‘issues’ eg poor vision, stiff joints but he really is a lovely old chap and the Vet says he has a strong heart. He isn’t demanding and doesn’t need to go for a daily walk but would enjoy some outside space to sniff around. Gets on very well with other dogs, not sure about cats yet.

Ibex at Pureto/Puerto Collado
Mike, you are absolutely right: people should be more careful with location.  However, you do not have a good case here. I was not trying to get people out to see the Ibex: surely they would be somewhere else on the next day. With this drought they have to get around a lot in order to find food.
The post was aimed at people walking their dogs in the area. I believe they recognized the place in spite of the unfortunate misspelling, sorry (it was correct in the title which was accidentally changed by ed).

Actually, ALL dog owners should take care in the nature, because (as stated in my earlier post, June 14, to which this was a follow-up): you may  meet wildlife where you don’t expect it. So, for that purpose: you don’t have to know where it was. Perhaps even better so!

It was in a nature park, where dogs certainly should not be on the loose. (There is no national park in Digameland). The wildlife IS there, even though you have not spotted any.

Services Needed- Patamalara Water Supply

I read yesterday’s post about Patamalara with some concern.

We were in Torrox for several weeks in late June and  early July, and saw no notices of any need to prove property ownership to ensure continued water supply from Patamalara. I would have expected to see any notice about this at the meters where we turn our supply on and off.

We do not return until mid August at the earliest, so if there is a 31 July deadline for providing evidence of ownership at the Patamalara office we will have missed it.

Does anybody know anything further about this matter?

Posting to Digamextra could be useful, as I am sure a number of readers get water from Patamalara, and could be concerned following yesterday’s post.

There seems lately to be a big serge in what appears to be aggressive dogs, which prompted me to write this short piece. Many people come to me claiming they have aggressive dog issues. Sometimes the attacks have taken place on several or one of their dogs, maybe even themselves or someone else, by their own dog. Although it maybe true that the dog acted in an aggressive manner, it does not mean it is an unpredictable dangerous animal.

The main reasons for dog aggression are, a lack of Exercise, Frustration or Fear.

Rescue dogs which are the main contingent here on the South Coast of Spain, are mainly driven by fear. They are generally quite unbalanced in their thinking and require some type of rehabilitation. Your normal everyday domestic dog can suffer from frustration and a lack of exercise. Sometimes it can be a combination of all three for either type of dog. But, the right amount of exercise is essential, to get rid of excess energy, then the energy will not be directed into the wrong areas.

It is also a great mistake to blame the breed. It was a Pit-bull therefore, for example. A Chihuahua is just as capable of becoming just as aggressive, its only that a Pit bull or Rottweiler are bigger and can do more damage.

I had a friend once who’s Cat put her in hospital after savaging her ankle. Owners can often be the source of there own problem and why an attack may occur, by setting up their dog to fail, by encouraging rough games, like tug of war, or teasing with food.

Pack Leadership is also essential. If a dog does not see you as its leader, there will be a fight for dominance within the pack, or if you have a dog on its own, it will become irrational and not listen. To control any breed, especially big powerful ones, you need to master the position of Pack Leader.

To conclude, even the wrongly, perceived as, fiercest of breeds, just want to be loved and they want to be lead, they just need the right help, from us.
