Days of Punk photo exhibition: Now Open
La Termica Cultural Centre in Malaga has over 100 pictures by photographer Michael Grecco. He took the photos at nightclubs in Boston and New York when punk rock was just emerging in the late 1970s. The exhibition also includes a soundtrack and documentary. Until 26 June. Open Tuesday to Sunday 11am to 2pm and 5 to 8.30pm. Free entry.

POSTPONED– Motril cancels Plácido Domingo concert this Saturday, after storm damage to bullring: This Saturday’s Plácido Domingo concert, on 26 March, has been cancelled due to damage to Motril’s bullring, where the event was due to take place. It was to be the first time that the world-famous opera singer would give a concert to sing in the Granada province town.

Government proposes direct aid to end the hauliers’ strike in Spain:
-The Spanish government wants to close a deal with the striking hauliers this week to minimise the impact which rising fuel prices has had on their activity. In a meeting with the National Road Transport Committee on Thursday morning, they outlined plans for direct aid which would reduce fuel prices.
-The negotations were led by Nadia Calviño, the Minister for Economic Affairs, Raquel Sánchez, the Minister of Transport, and María Jesús Montero, the Minister of Finance. The focus was on how the 500 million euros proposed to subsidise commercial fuel will be distributed. According to Europa Press, the hauliers want the subsidy increased to one billion euros. The first anticovid pills will begin to be distributed on Monday: The Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, has signed this Thursday with the director of the Pfizer Spain and international company, Sergio Rodríguez, the agreement for the acquisition and distribution of 344,000 complete treatments of the drug Paxlovid against covid-19, known as the anticovid pill. The price of gasoline and diesel fell this week for the first time so far this year, after eleven consecutive weeks of increases and after breaking all records due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and its impact on rising oil prices.

Moreno announces three-month exemption from port taxes for fishermen: {Translation}
-The president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, announced on Thursday that they are going to exempt Andalusian fishermen from paying port and fishing fees for three months in order to “help them” and try to partially “cushion” the increase in costs they are suffering.
-Moreno, in the control session in Parliament in response to UN Podemos, has also advanced that the rates for the agricultural sector in agronomic medical services, veterinary services and agricultural and livestock laboratory services will be subsidised.

-Four individuals connected to the illegal streaming of copyrighted content have been handed prison sentences in the UK totaling more than 10 years. New drug multiplies survival rate for women with HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer: An international study has found that patients given trastuzumab deruxtecan had an estimated overall survival rate of 94% after 12 months.
When trastuzumab deruxtecan was compared with trastuzumab emtansine (T-DM1), the current standard of care for patients whose tumors have not responded to first-line treatment, it achieved much better results. According to the trial, which involved 524 people from 15 countries, the percentage of participants who were alive without disease progression at 12 months was 75.8%, compared to 34.1% for those who had been given trastuzumab emtansine. What’s more, the estimated 12-month overall survival rate was 94.1%, compared to 85.9% for T-DM1.

Microsoft source code breach may be much bigger than we thought- A huge gift to hackers:
-After allegedly gaining access to Microsoft’s Azure DevOps source code repositories over the weekend, the South American-based data extortion hacking group Lapsus$ has now made some of the company’s internal files available online.
-In a recent post on Telegram, the group shared a screenshot of Microsoft’s Azure DevOps account to show that they had hacked one of the company’s servers which contained the source code for Bing, Cortana and a number of other internal projects.
-Now though, Lapsus$ has made the source code for over 250 Microsoft projects available online in a 9GB torrent. According to the group, the torrent itself contains 90 percent of the source code for Bing and 45 percent of the source code for both Bing Maps and Cortana.

Hospital Delays Increasingly Push Patients Over the Edge- Woman smashes computer in the emergency room so that she can be seen when it is not her turn:

Apple Services Suffers Worldwide Outages: Starting from 12:50 p.m. eastern on Monday, AppleInsider staff encountered problems with various Apple services, 19 of them. This included iCloud going down, which is a key element that impacts other services and apps with online components. This included Mail, which became unreliable in fetching messages for multiple staff. Some found Apple News wasn’t loading stories, while Apple Music on Mac fails to bring up any pages at all. A few minutes after initial publication, AppleInsider staff encountered further problems with iMessage, as well as Apple Maps. However, the outages appear to affect users in different ways, with some experiencing normal access for some apps, but not others.

Arctic, Antarctica temperature surge stuns scientists, who call it ‘unthinkable’: An alarming heatwave is taking place simultaneously in the Arctic and Antarctic – a development described as “unthinkable” by scientists.
Records have been shattered in parts of Antarctica, with the temperature more than 40C warmer than average. Meanwhile in parts of the Arctic, the mercury shot up more than 30C higher than normal.
On March 19 the Concordia weather station in Antarctica was at -12.2C, about 40C above average, climatologist Maximiliano Herrera reported.
The heatwave has stunned scientists. “They are opposite seasons. You don’t see the north and the south (poles) both melting at the same time,” National Snow and Ice Data Centre scientist Walt Meier told NBC News. “It is pretty stunning.”
The freakish heat is believed to be a random weather event. It has not been linked to climate change, according to meteorologist Matthew Lazzara and Dr Meier. Recommendations & Requests

Banks and smartphones again: Perhaps you remember my complaint about not being allowed by the bank to do internet shopping, using my new credit card, without a smartphone? OK, things are improving: I managed to buy something from Amazon.es! However, to my big surprise, was not asked to verify the purchase! The bank told me that Amazon and other large companies have got their own verification systems! I wonder if a list of such companies exist. And what about Paypal etc? I still have to test buying from other.
-Getting so far took 2 emails to costumer support plus at least 3 visit to the bank office. Costumer support told me that I did not need a smartphone, while the clerks in the local office got the opposite information, when they tried to set up my account properly (I saw the messages they got). Unbelievable that they make something so complicated that their own staff cannot manage it!
-Or perhaps the explanation simply is that some of the support nerds cannot imagine that anybody would not be perfectly happy managing their whole life through a bunch of Apps in a volatile device! As a friend expressed it: she was tired of the circus of having to get an app in order to use an(other) app! So let us fight back, when things get more complicated than necesary – whenever we have got the posibility and energy! “It cannot be done” often just means that someone somewhere has to do his job a bit better!
-It may be worth complaining, as it happened with the succesful petition “soyMayorNOidiota”in Change.org recently.(described here in Digamextra).

-Algerian diplomatic sources consulted by the national news portal Tout sur L’Algerie (TSA) and quoted by Europa Prees said this morning that the Spanish government had never informed Algiers in advance of its new position on Western Sahara. This a statement that is in direct collision with the version defended this Saturday by Spain.
-But these sources categorically deny this assertion. “It is clearly a lie wrapped in an ambiguity intended to try to calm the legitimate concerns raised by the Spanish political class”, they claim. Last night, the Spanish government had said the opposite. Government sources said last night that “the Spanish government had previously informed the Algerian government of Spain’s position on the Sahara”.
-They added that for our country ‘Algeria is a strategic, priority and reliable partner, with which we intend to maintain a privileged relationship’. This last point is fundamental because the government is of the opinion that the fundamental issue in the relationship between Spain and Algeria is not the Sahara, but rather the gas agreements. And in this sense, they believe that gas supplies to Spain are not in danger.
-At the beginning of March, Pedro Sánchez called Algeria’s president, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to address the situation arising from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. In a conversation in which the government assured that Algeria “guaranteed” the supply of gas to our country. This is essential in a context in which the Russian flow is unstable and important, given that Algeria does not condemn Russia’s actions and is a traditional partner of Moscow.
-But this conversation took place before the government’s change of position. And in no case has the government said that this issue was addressed in the conversation. In fact, government sources do admit that the way in which the agreement with Morocco was revealed was not perfectly orchestrated. Rabat’s decision to publish the letter that Pedro Sánchez had sent was known, but even in the version that some government sources point to, this warning to Algeria, which they deny, did not take place sufficiently in advance.

Day of the Tagarnina in Villanueva del Rosario: Sat 19Mar
A festival of tourist interest that will feature live entertainment, a street market and a hiking tour, although the main protagonist of this celebration will be the Tagarninas stew.
The tagarnina is a wild plant of the thistle family which is used as an ingredient in stews, soups and various other dishes, and it is an important ingredient in the town’s traditional dish.
The festival takes place on Saturday 19 March and visitors will be offered the chance to sample this typical dish in the Plaza de España from 1.30pm.
The festivities will begin at 8.30am with the habitual hiking route from the Plaza Andalucía to the Mirador de Hondonero, where participants will enjoy breakfast in order to set them up for the day’s activities.
Hand-made clay bowls will also be sold and all proceeds will be donated to the Support Ukraine appeal

-Spam filters were never claimed to be perfect, they often make mistakes. Spam filters separate what are “probably safe” emails from “probably junk” emails, for your convenience. When checking your email, Users are expected to look closely at items in their Inbox, and quickly scan thru items in your Spam folder to look for mis-classified items.
-If you find emails in Spam that are legit, move them to your Inbox, and after that they will go to your Inbox instead of Spam.
-Don’t let your Spam folder fill up, empty Spam weekly.
-Do not even open emails in Spam unless you recognize the sender’s email. Hovering your cursor arrow over the sender’s name will reveal the sender’s email address. If you know the name, but the address looks wrong, just delete it. Some scammer got hold of your contact list of names, and is using those names on emails they send you in hopes you’ll open the email routinely, without checking the address before opening it. If you use a free email service, or WhatsApp, or any social media, your list of contacts may have been exposed. Editor’s Note on Transport Strike: I went to Aldi in Torrox Costa this afternoon. The bread, meat, veg and fruit sections were TOTALLY EMPTY. Very few dairy items remained. No girasol sunflower oil. Other than these items, shelves were stocked normally. When I asked about it, the checkout clerk just shrugged and said they had no fresh items, stock could return any day, but probably not until Monday. I don’t know if this is an isolated situation. Anyone else seeing such severe shortages? -Ed.

Travel agency owner sentenced to 4 years in prison for defrauding clients in Torrox: {Translation}
-The owner of a travel agency located in Torrox is facing a four-year prison sentence for allegedly keeping the money he received from his foreign clients to book excursions and stays in Spain, according to Málaga Hoy.
-The 61-year-old German national will be tried next week in the Provincial Court of Malaga and will sit in the dock for an alleged continuous offence of fraud, according to the prosecution.
-The Public Prosecutor’s Office maintains that the accused had been operating a travel agency since at least 2016 and, in the course of his work, received various amounts from his clients (both individuals and other foreign travel agencies). These clients contracted excursions and stays in Spain with him and paid in each case the corresponding amount for the agreed service. “The accused allegedly kept the amounts received without making the corresponding reservations in the hotels previously arranged.
-Among the injured parties is a foreigner, a mediator in the organisation of trips, who contracted with the accused, between 7 and 11 November 2016, various stays and excursions in Andalusia for his own clients and paid 22,655 euros for them.
-However, the defendant allegedly did not make any of the agreed reservations and the injured party also had to pay a total amount of 6,200 euros in damages to his clients.
-In the same way, he acted with another foreigner who booked with the defendant a stay in Madrid between 30 September and 6 October 2017 and paid 783 euros for it, money that the defendant also allegedly kept without also making any reservation, so that the injured party had to pay 941 euros to pay for his stay.

Luxury prefabricated housing community for foreigners, on land designated for campsites, dismantled in Sorbas, Almería: {Translation}
-A luxury resort, with prefabricated dwellings, is what was hidden in Sorbas behind an establishment that had a two-star licence with rural category for campsites. This illegal settlement that had been set up had 29 ‘mobile homes’ that had been sold to foreigners in their entirety.
-It was the urban inspection services of the Andalusian Regional Ministry of Development, Infrastructures and Territorial Planning who detected the advertisements on the internet aimed at British, French, Dutch and German citizens. “Opportunity to invest abroad in a dream home for permanent residence or to spend some time”, the advertisements said.
-The owners of the alleged campsite sold the prefabricated houses by renting a plot of land, providing water, electricity, sanitation and waste services, and even took out home insurance.
-The ‘mobile-homes’ were sold for between 45,000 and 156,000 euros, depending on their size and features, but lacked any permits or licences.
-The inspection visited the establishment and found that residential use was taking place. The Junta has already dismantled this settlement and has opened two sanctioning files for infractions against land use planning, one for advertising and the other for the implementation of unauthorised residential uses.
-The company that owns the campsite has shown its intention to buy back most of the prefabricated houses, compensating the affected foreign population. In addition, 16 of the 29 dwellings have been removed and the rest have requested municipal authorisation to be used as a fixed tourist accommodation facility.
-This complex has a swimming pool, sports courts, gardens, lounge, bar-restaurant and reception.
