SPAIN

Energy Crisis- Brussels is presenting a range of possible measures, with their pros and cons, without betting on any of them, while waiting for the heads of government to decide at the summit on Thursday and Friday:
-The European Commission is keeping its hands to itself. Perhaps because it does not want to touch anything, perhaps because it does not want to take sides in the north, south, east or west of the European Union. Or perhaps it is because, at heart, the EU is the governments. Be it for one reason or another, the fact is that Brussels arrives on the eve of the European summit with a range of options, rather than guidelines, with their pros and cons, for intervening in the electricity market in the face of the energy crisis, exacerbated by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. And it leaves it to the heads of state and government to make the decisions on what to do. Changes to Spain’s Covid isolation rules come into force next week:
-From next week, Spain will be taking steps to deal with Covid-19 in much the same way as it does with flu. On Tuesday the Public Health Committee approved its ‘Strategy for Monitoring and Control of Covid-19’, so from 28 March people with no symptoms or only mild ones will no longer have to isolate,
-Only people who are classified as vulnerable and test positive will need to isolate, for a period of seven days, although the isolation rule will still be maintained in residential homes for the elderly and people in hospital, whether or not they have symptoms. However, there will also be a change in those circumstances: isolation will be for five days and will end after 24 hours symptom-free.
-The health authorities will no longer try to trace cases or count them, so there will be no more updates on overall Covid figures as there have been until now. Instead, the new strategy is to look for cases among the vulnerable population, as they are the people most likely to suffer complications from the virus.
-The Public Health Committee says this change is possible because of the high levels of immunity among the Spanish population. The new strategy was approved on a day when the accumulated incidence of Covid-19 fell again by nine points, to 436 cases per 100,000 people over 14 days. The health authorities have also reported 54,147 new infections and 350 deaths in the past four days. Supermarkets call for calm and rule out a general shortage problem:
-Despite the evident tension in the supply chain due to the indefinite stoppage of transport, supermarkets today called for calm and ruled out a problem of shortages on the shelves. The general secretary of the Asedas employers’ association, Felipe Medina, highlighted the “great commitment” of the distribution sector and sent a message of calm to consumers because they are working on the reorganization of the assortment and that the shelves have products of all varieties. categories. “A framework of great collaboration with suppliers is taking place,” Medina stressed.
-For his part, the president of the Spanish Association of Supermarket Chains (ACES), Aurelio del Pino, demanded that consumers responsibly carry out purchases and avoid massive stockpiles, which “far from solving the problem, complicate even more the management of stocks in stores. “We have supply problems, but there will be no shortage problems, the stores will have full food baskets available,” said Del Pino. Transport Crisis Update:
-Government has decided to bring forward the planned meeting with various carrier organizations one day to inform them of the specific measures that the Executive will take to deal with the energy and price crisis.
-It will be tomorrow (Thursday) when he holds a new meeting with the Goods Department of the National Committee for Road Transport, according to government sources.
-Buses, coaches, taxis and ambulances plan protests Sunday.
-But first, this afternoon (Wed), the Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez, will meet with the main business organizations in the passenger transport sector, that is, buses, coaches, taxis, VTC and ambulances, who have called a demonstration for this Sunday to demand that the Government articulate concrete and direct aid that compensates for the sharp increase in the price of energy. Tennis News- Ashleigh Barty, World No. 1 announces shock retirement from professional tennis at age of 25: The Australian, who has won three Grand Slam titles and is the reigning Wimbledon and Australian Open champion, said she was retiring from the sport for a second time to “chase other dreams”.
“I’ve said it to my team multiple times, I don’t have it in me anymore. I don’t have the physical drive, the emotional want and everything it takes to challenge yourself at the very top level anymore. I just know I am spent, I know physically I have nothing more to give and that for me is success. I’ve given everything I can to this beautiful sport of tennis and I’m really happy with that – and, for me, that is my success.
