MOONETTE – Organic Skincare for Mature Skin + Valentines Special
We are a Torrox-based company specialising in the creation of formulae which help prevent premature skin ageing. We are committed to making effective products at affordable prices.
Your skin health matters to us. How you feed your skin is as important as how you feed your body. Why settle for anything less than natural and organic?
As our skin is the first layer of our defence against microbial infections, ultraviolet radiation and environmental contamination it plays a vital role in our health. As we grow older, however, our skin becomes thinner, wrinkled, and more sensitive; hence it requires the use of treatments containing specific ingredients to the care of treating mature skin.
Recognising this need we have created a range of formulae which help
-slow down ageing process by smoothing fine lines and wrinkles.
-improve facial complexion and eliminate blemishes.
At Moonette, we are passionate about health, beauty and plants. Your skin will benefit from the properties of botanic essential oils combined with a selection of nutrients for deep hydration, cell revitalization and antioxidant effect, all sourced from the finest natural ingredients with gorgeous fragrances.

COVID-19

Covid Andalucia- Andalucia halves the number of patients admitted to ICU for Covid in only two weeks: {Translation} 18/02/2022 13:22
-On Friday, Andalusia has 138 patients admitted to the ICU for coronavirus, three less than on Thursday. In just two weeks, that is, since 1 February, the community has almost halved the number of patients in intensive care for Covid, a drop as fast as the rise of the sixth wave.
-This is a phenomenon that is equally true for those hospitalised. This Friday there are 1,141, 72 less than the previous day and less than half of the 2,330 that occurred on 25 January. The pressure on hospitals has been decreasing at an ever faster rate in all areas.
-This is because the number of infections has also fallen significantly.
In fact, 4,059 were reported on Friday, some 400 fewer than on Thursday and 1,000 fewer than on the same day last week. The improvement in this figure, which has fallen to 2,000 cases per day on some days, has meant that the cumulative incidence has fallen very quickly.
-In fact, according to data from the Regional Ministry of Health and Families, the sixth wave has lost 75 percent of its strength in just two months. Thus, the incidence has dropped to 480 points when on 5 January it exceeded 1,900 points.
-Although the sixth wave is in a very clear retreat, there is one data point that resists: deaths. This is the last value to fall when a wave goes down. However, the prolonged period of high levels of infection – since Christmas there have been one-off days with almost 40,000 cases – means that the number of deaths remains high.
-However, this Friday a possible change of trend can be guessed. The community reports 24 deaths. This is less than the previous day and, more importantly, less than the same day the previous week. The figures are still timid, but they could point to a drop in this figure in the coming week. ANDALUCIA

Eco Reserve in Ojén has been fined 131,000 euros and closed to the public: The Eco Reserve in Ojén has been closed down by the regional government’s Sustainable Development office in Malaga for failing to comply with environmental and animal welfare regulations, and has been fined 131,000 euros.
An inspection in 2020 detected seven serious breaches of the rules, but due to the pandemic and the difficulties being experienced by businesses in the province, the Junta decided to allow them time to put things right, says José Antonio Víquez, the delegate for Sustainable Development. Now, however, the economic situation is better and the Eco Reserve is popular with visitors, but the problems have not been resolved. A further inspection on 10 February showed that some regulations are still being broken, so it was decided to close the reserve to the public. Windows 11- One Step Closer To Becoming A Paid Subscription Service: In the latest Windows 11 Preview build, Microsoft notes that Windows 11 Pro now requires an internet connection (with consistant speed & quality) when you’re first setting up your device. Right now, that’s where it’s left, but Microsoft does note that in the future “you can expect a Microsoft Account to be required”.
It’s not exactly clear when this update is going to be delivered to the actual live version of Windows 11, but it’s likely to be some time this year. It’s another move that will give Microsoft more access to your data. So now the questions are, when will they start charging us to have a MS account, and what will become of all the Win 10 computers that don’t meet the minimum processor requirements for Win 11 when Win 10 goes obsolete in Oct 2025? Canadian police begin arrests of Ottawa ‘Freedom Convoy’ protesters:
Canadian police on Thursday began arresting leaders of the trucker-led protest that has choked the capital’s streets for three weeks and provoked the government into calling on rarely used emergency powers.
A video posted to the Twitter account for the so-called “Freedom Convoy” showed Tamara Lich, one of the organizers, being taken into police custody on Thursday night.
The earlier arrest of another leader, Chris Barber, was also captured in a video shared on the same account.
The convoy had started with truckers protesting against mandatory Covid vaccines to cross the US border, but its demands have grown to include an end to all pandemic restrictions and, for many, a wider anti-establishment agenda.
At its peak, the movement also included blockades of a half-dozen US-Canada border crossings—including the key route between Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan. Full article: https://www.france24.com/en/americas/20220218-canadian-police-begin-arresting-leaders-of-ottawa-freedom-convoy-protest

COVID-19

Covid Spain- Spain’s Ministry of Health reports 360 coronavirus deaths in latest 24-hour period: The Ministry of Health in Spain has this Thursday, 17 February, notified 34,213 new coronavirus infections. The country’s 14-day cumulative incidence rate continues to decrease, standing at 984.33 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, compared to the 1,060.46 reported on Wednesday by the department led by Caroline Darias. Another 360 coronavirus deaths were added, making the official Covid death toll in Spain rise to 97,710.
-There are currently 10,251 Covid-19 patients admitted to hospitals throughout Spain and 1,351 in an intensive care unit, although in the last 24 hours there have been 907 admissions and 1,557 patients discharged. The occupancy rate of hospital beds occupied by coronavirus patients stands at 8.25 per cent on the wards and 14.48 per cent in ICUs. SPAIN

There are Autonomous Regions with 20% of Covid death reports being false- Health admits the chaos of the count: {Translation} 16/02/2022 11:32
-Every day the media insist on reporting on the number of deaths caused by the coronavirus, when the reality is that we know neither the exact number nor the date to which they correspond. The lack of a single criterion for counting deaths caused by covid-19 has led at least eight autonomous communities to admit that they inflate their death figures to include those who died from another cause but with a positive diagnostic test. This situation has led to some Autonomous Communities with up to 20% of false deaths due to covid in their statistics, as Vozpópuli has been able to confirm through regional sources.
-The chaos is such that the Centro de Coordinación de Alertas y Emergencias Sanitarias (Ccaes) was unaware of the existence of this disparity of criteria. “We have always understood that the ACs only counted deaths due to covid, not covid and deaths due to other causes,” says a source close to the centre headed by Fernando Simón.
-These differences have led the Autonomous Regions to complain to the CCAES, which has recognised the existence of at least two problems in the count: the difference in criteria on what constitutes a covid death and the delay in sharing the data so that the Ministry can include it in the report. The ACs that do not distinguish between covid and covid deaths inflate their total number of deaths by up to 20%, although in some cases the gap is as much as 10%.
-The Ccaes considers that only deaths due to coronavirus, and no other cause, should be recorded in the Ministry of Health’s daily list. But both Carolina Darias and Fernando Simón’s department wash their hands of the matter and rule out imposing a common criterion for the whole of Spain. “There is not going to be a single criterion because detecting the cause of death is very complicated,” they say at the Ccaes.
-The issue that has most inflamed the communities, however, has been the delay with which some of them are notifying the deaths caused by coronavirus in their territories. For weeks now, Health has been offering in its report data on deaths in the last 7 days that do not correspond to reality because of the territories that report their data late.
-This error favours those that do badly in the media and harms those that do well. Every day, the media echo the figures of deaths without distinguishing this factor, which leads citizens to misjudge the situation in each territory. Moreover, it may even seem that in some regions people die more from coronavirus because they have worse care systems, when the reality is that they are quicker and more efficient at reporting data.
-The delays in the Autonomous Regions are not included in the specific seven-day data, but in the total, thus camouflaging the real situation. Last week, in fact, Catalonia updated its situation with the sum of 400 deaths due to coronavirus. When are these deaths from? The sixth wave? October? Previous?
-“The system penalises those who do their work on a daily basis,” say regional sources. The response of the Ccaes has not been long in coming and this week, in an attempt to please the Autonomous Regions, they have modified the daily report of Health with three asterisks in the “deaths in the last 7 days” where it is specified: “Due to delays in the notification of the deceased cases in some Autonomous Regions, these data are not comparable with each other”.
-As this newspaper published last week, the delay in the notification of deaths means that the Autonomous Regions have left 690 deaths in limbo between 31 January and 7 February. These are people who have been added to the total death toll without the date of death being specified. This makes it impossible to know how lethal covid is in each territory. Two years of pandemic, and there is still no single path for everyone, even if only to count the souls that have been left behind. Ukraine shelling renews invasion fears as Russia expels U.S. diplomat:
Shelling in Ukraine on Thursday renewed Western fears of an imminent Russian invasion as U.S. President Joe Biden said Moscow is preparing a pretext to justify a possible attack and the Kremlin expelled an American diplomat.
Early morning exchanges of fire between Kyiv’s forces and pro-Russian separatists – who have been at war for years and where a ceasefire is periodically violated – caused alarm as Western countries have said an incursion could come at any time.
-While Russia accuses the West of hysteria, saying some its troops have returned to bases and that it has no plans to invade, many Western countries are adamant that the military build-up is continuing ahead of a possible assault.

A Creepy, Exceptionally Rare ‘Ghost Shark’ Chimaera Has Been Found in The Pacific: Researchers have discovered an exceptionally rare, newly hatched “ghost shark” near New Zealand’s South Island, according to the country’s National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA).
Translucent, gelatinous and crowned with a pair of giant black eyes on its pointed head, the alien-like baby likely belongs to one of the more than 50 known species of ghost sharks, also known as chimaeras, which live in deep water around the world.
Though not exactly sharks, chimaeras are closely related to both sharks and rays, all of which are fish with skeletons made of cartilage instead of bone, according to NIWA. Full article: https://www.sciencealert.com/rare-baby-alien-like-ghost-shark-found-near-new-zealand

Europe Heads Toward a New Normal as Final Covid Curbs Unwind, Germany Announces Restriction Roll Back:
-Europe looks to be gradually leaving the pandemic behind, with Germany becoming the latest in the region to unwind restrictions that have disrupted life for two years.
-Most of Germany’s Covid curbs will be rolled back in three stages by March 20, Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced Wednesday. The first step involves the immediate end of vaccination controls at non-essential stores.
-Neighboring Switzerland will scrap almost all pandemic-related restrictions starting from Thursday, including a work-from-home recommendation and the need for Covid documentation to enter the country. Austria announced similar steps on Wednesday, and the Netherlands will lift controls on people and businesses beginning on Friday. France’s health minister, Olivier Veran, on Wednesday raised the possibility of dropping rules on masks and proof of vaccination from mid-March. Wall Street Journal- Trump Really Was Illegally Spied On by the Hillary Clinton campaign in 2016:
-Special Counsel John Durham continues to unravel the Trump-Russia “collusion” story, and his latest court disclosure contains startling information. According to a Friday court filing, the 2016 Hillary Clinton campaign effort to compile dirt on Donald Trump reached into protected White House communications.
-In a new legal filing, the special counsel says a tech company that had access to Trump’s internet communications shared that data with operatives working for the Clinton campaign in 2016.
-“White House communications are supposed to be secure, and the notion that any contractor, much less one with ties to a presidential campaign, could access them is alarming enough,” the Journal wrote. “The implication that the data was exploited for a political purpose is a scandal that requires investigation under oath”. Scientists Make Breakthrough In Warping Time at Smallest Scale Ever:
-Albert Einstein’s theory of general relativity is packed with weird insights about our reality, but perhaps the most mind-boggling is the fact that strong gravitational fields or incredibly high speeds can warp the passage of time, an effect known as time dilation. For instance, clocks located onboard spacecraft tick slightly faster than those on Earth, due to the distortive effects of our planet’s gravity on time.
-Now, in a major breakthrough, scientists at JILA, a joint operation between the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the University of Colorado Boulder, have measured time dilation at the smallest scale ever using the most accurate clocks in the world. The team showed that clocks located just a millimeter apart, about the width of a pencil tip, showed slightly different times due to the influence of Earth’s gravity.
-The new experiment paves the way toward clocks with 50 times the precision of those available today, which could be used for a host of practical applications, while also shedding light on fundamental mysteries about our universe, including the long-sought “union of general relativity and quantum mechanics,” according to a study published on Wednesday in Nature. Snow moon- When and where to see the last full moon of February in Spain: The month of February brings with it the so-called ‘full snow moon’. It will be visible on 16 & 17 February. The moon is so named by North American tribes because it coincides with the month with most snowfall of the year in the northern hemisphere. But there are other astrological phenomena you should look out for in the night sky tonight…

Canada Trucker Protest Update- Tensions mount in Ottawa as police warn truckers to leave:
-A showdown appeared to be shaping up in Ottawa’s nearly three-week siege by truckers protesting the country’s COVID-19 restrictions as police in the capital warned drivers Wednesday to leave immediately or risk arrest.
-The big rigs parked outside Parliament represented the movement’s last stronghold after demonstrators abandoned their sole remaining truck blockade along the U.S. border.
-With that, all border crossings were open for the first time in more than two weeks of unrest, centering attention on the capital, where drivers defiantly ripped up warnings telling them to go home.
-Authorities in yellow “police liaison” vests went from rig to rig, knocking on the doors and handing truckers leaflets informing them they could be prosecuted, lose their licenses and see their vehicles seized under Canada’s Emergencies Act. Police also began ticketing vehicles. Full article: https://apnews.com/article/coronavirus-pandemic-health-canada-ontario-ottawa-e453c810201789b127654ab7aeec021d

Halting Erosion Using Vetiver Grass from Vetiver Spain:
Vetiver Grass is a fast growing non-invasive clumping grass that grows to 2 metres in height. It has a root system that grows to 3-4 metres deep and they are very strong.
The National Geographic Magazine has called them “Roots of Steel”.
Once Vetiver is established it is drought resistant.
We are located in Sayalonga and we can plant all year round but February and March are the best months to plant Vetiver. Vetiver loves the heat of a long summer to get established.
Decomposing Vetiver used as a mulch, improves soil quality, keeps the weeds down and the insects away as it is a natural insect repellent. It is in the same family as Lemon Grass, which we also carry.
Vetiver also is a nutritious and replenishable animal feed. Horses, cattle, and pigs love it.
We use Vetiver along driveways and sidewalks. It also makes a great and inexpensive Ornamental hedge.

Texas Suing Meta/Fakebook Over Facial Recognition Technology-Seeking Hundreds Of Billions In Penalties: The lawsuit, filed in state court, claims Facebook’s use of facial recognition technology unlawfully “exploited” Texans without consent “billions of times.”

Covid Andalucia- Andalusia reduces those hospitalized by Covid by 427 in the last week: {Translation, summary} 13/02/2022 14:03
-Andalusia has seen a total of 427 people hospitalised for coronavirus this week, a much sharper fall than that recorded in the previous two weeks, since last week it was reduced by 290 people and the previous week there were 56 fewer people admitted.
-As of Sunday, there are 1,470 hospitalised patients in the autonomous community for this disease, while last Sunday there were 1,897 Andalusians who were hospitalised due to Covid.
-The reduction in the number of patients also extends to the ICUs. There are 42 fewer people in these units than a week ago. The downward trend is also confirmed in the ICUs because this is the highest figure in the last three weeks. In fact, last week there were 14 fewer patients, while in the previous week there were eight fewer.
-This pronounced drop has allowed the Junta to remove the Covid passport restriction in the region for access to various sites from Wednesday.
-As the Regional Minister for Health and Families, Jesús Aguirre, stated this Saturday, “the decrease in hospital pressure indicates that the sixth wave is in frank remission and we hope to reach a stabilisation phase in 10-15 days”. SPAIN

Dry winter drains reservoirs, ruins crops in Spain, Portugal: Roofs peeking out of the water have become a common sight every summer at the Lindoso reservoir in northwestern Spain. In especially dry years, parts would appear of the old village of Aceredo, submerged three decades ago when a hydropower dam flooded the valley.
-But never before has the skeleton of the village emerged in its entirety in the middle of the usually wet winter season. With almost no rain for two months and not much expected any time soon, the ruins of Aceredo are dredging up a mix of emotions for locals as they see the rusted carcass of a car, a stone fountain with water still spouting and the old road leading to what used to be the local bar.
-While the arid zones of the Iberian Peninsula have historically experienced periods of drought, experts say climate change has exacerbated the problem. This year, amid record levels of low or no rainfall at all, farmers in both Portugal and Spain, who are growing produce for all of Europe, are worried that their crops for this season will be ruined.
-In the last three months of 2021, Spain recorded just 35% of the average rainfall it had seen during the same period from 1981 to 2010. But there has been almost no rain since then. According to the national weather agency AEMET, in this century, only in 2005 has there been a January with almost no rain. If clouds don’t unleash in the next two weeks, emergency subsidies for farmers will be needed, authorities said. Photo:AP/Emilio Morenatti. $100 Oil Threatens to Compound World Economy’s Inflation Shock:
Oil’s surge toward $100 a barrel for the first time since 2014 is threatening to deal a double-blow to the world economy by further denting growth prospects and driving up inflation.
Oil is about 50% higher than a year ago, part of a broader rally in commodity prices that’s swept up natural gas too. Among the drivers: A post-lockdown resurgence in worldwide demand, geopolitical tensions ignited by oil giant Russia and strained supply chains. Prospects for a renewed Iranian nuclear deal have at times cooled the market.
Still, the rise has been piercing. Just two years ago, oil prices plunged briefly below zero. Full article: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/100-oil-threatens-compound-world-211750831.html

War, peace, stalemate? Week ahead may decide Ukraine’s fate: Even if a Russian invasion of Ukraine doesn’t happen in the next few days, the crisis is reaching a critical inflection point with European stability and the future of East-West relations hanging in the balance.
A convergence of events over the coming week could determine whether the stalemate is resolved peacefully or Europe is at war. At stake are Europe’s post-Cold War security architecture and long-agreed limits on the deployment of conventional military and nuclear forces there. DigameXtra Alert – Sunday, 13Feb22 – End of Covid Passports for Cafes, Hotels & Health Facilities From Wednesday

The Ministry of Health puts an end to the Covid passport in the hotel and leisure industry in Andalusia from Wednesday

{Translation} :12/02/2022 14:34
-The Minister of Health, Jesús Aguirre, announced today in Córdoba, on the occasion of his participation in the provincial PP Health Advisory Forum, that the Junta will not ask the TSJA to extend the use of the Covid passport set for access to certain areas, which is valid until 15 February.
-“We are not going to ask the TSJA for a renewal, which will mean that the Covid passport will no longer be compulsory in the hotel and catering industry, nightlife and for health and social-health facilities [residences]. As of next Tuesday it will no longer be compulsory in Andalusia,” Aguirre explained. In other words, the 15th of this month, Tuesday, will be its last day of validity and on Wednesday, the 16th, it will no longer have to be used.
-He argued that the incidence of cases is falling (one of the thermometers to measure the force with which the Covid punishes a territory), but, above all, has argued with the data of hospital pressure, which is “the important thing”.
Since the beginning of December
-“Today we are at 1,470 hospital admissions. In one week, that’s 600 less. And in the same period, we have 42 fewer people in the ICU, leaving us with 172”, stressed the regional minister.
-As a result, passports will no longer be requested completely in Cordoba and the rest of Andalusia. It was on Tuesday 7 December when the TSJA agreed, at the request of the Junta, that this system of access control for health centres and residences could be implemented. Subsequently, on 20 December it came into force for the hotel and catering sector. Covid Malaga- Covid rate in Malaga is almost half of what it was a fortnight ago, but its fall is slowing down: {Translation} 11Feb22, 13:47
-The Covid rate in the province of Malaga is almost half of what it was a fortnight ago, but in the last few days its fall has slowed down. Coinciding with the end of the outdoor masks, the decline is stagnating. In addition, there are 14 times more newly infected than cured and five more deaths with the virus have been reported. On the positive side, the number of hospitalisations is dropping below 300, the lowest number in the last five weeks. That is the summary of the pandemic situation.
-Seen with some perspective, the incidence has been reduced. At the end of January it was 917.5 cases per 100,000 population and now it is 525.6. That is almost half in two weeks. But in the last two days it has stabilised and has hardly fallen. Last Thursday, 10 February, it went up after almost three weeks of steady decline. From 501.1 at the provincial level on Wednesday, it rose to 526.1 the following day. And this Friday it stands at 525.6 positive per 100,000 inhabitants. In other words, just 0.5 points less in the province as a whole than the previous day. In the capital, on the other hand, the incidence has increased. From 550.6 on Thursday to 556.6 on Friday. In Andalusia, it falls: from 618.1 positives per 100,000 inhabitants to 601.3.
-Figures provided by the Regional Ministry of Health and Families report five more deaths with the virus. This brings the total number of Covid-infected deaths in the province for the entire pandemic to 2,226.
-The number of new infections remains above 1,000. This Friday there are 1,053; which means that the cumulative figure since March 2020 is 245,772. With this number, the positives of the last few hours are 14 times more than those cured, which only amount to 74. In total, since the beginning of this global health crisis, the number of people who have overcome the disease amounts to 210,247.
-The number of people hospitalised has fallen below 300, a threshold not seen for five weeks. As of Friday, 295 people are in hospital, including 28 in intensive care. Daily hospitalisations remain high. In these almost two years a total of 12,732 people have been admitted to hospitals in the province; 1,112 of them in ICU. The idea is to start the project with two prototypes of ‘spy birds’ to be used during secret operations. Photo:DRONE BIRD COMPANY. Can Dogs Get COVID? Here’s What We Know: According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it’s possible for animals to get COVID from people, but there’s a low chance of animals spreading the virus to humans. Most animals infected with the coronavirus had close contact with people who had COVID, such as pet owners and caretakers, the CDC said online.
Reports of animals infected with COVID have been documented worldwide, specifically in companion animals, zoo animals, mink on mink farms and wild white-tailed deer in the U.S.
The CDC advises people with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 to avoid contact with animals, including pets, livestock, and wildlife.

Do you have a torn or very damaged Euro note? This is what you can do with it: {Translation, summary}
-Banknotes that are stained, burnt, discoloured or missing a piece can be exchanged for another banknote of the same value that is in perfect condition. To do so, all you have to do is go to any branch of the Banco de España for inspection and request the exchange.
-In order to be exchanged, the general rule is that the banknote you present must still have more than half of its original surface or you must prove that the missing part has been destroyed. If the banknote is particularly damaged, it will be analysed by qualified staff from the Banknote Analysis Unit. They will decide whether it is genuine and can be replaced by a new one of the same value.
-When it comes to paying the corresponding money, all users requesting the exchange can choose whether they prefer to receive a new banknote or have the corresponding amount paid into the bank account of the financial institution indicated.
-Another option is to go to your bank and ask to exchange your banknote. It is likely that they will do you a favour and provide this service as long as you have an account with them, although they are under no obligation to do so as there are no regulations that expressly state this. It is therefore not certain that they will exchange banknotes as they will at the Banco de España. COVID-19

Covid Andalucía- Andalucía registers 9,626 Covid positives in 24 hours and the incidence rate rises by 25: February 10, 2022
-Andalucía has this Thursday, 10 February, registered a total of 9,626 Covid-19 positives in 24 hours, some 7,354 more than those recorded the day before, and it is the highest figure since 22 January (12,928 infections). The region has also notified 36 coronavirus deaths, which represents two more than those recorded on Wednesday.
-The 14-day cumulative incidence rate in the region stands at 618 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, a rise of 25.1 compared to Wednesday after seven days of decline.
-The Health minister also explained that, by province, Almeria registers the highest incidence rate, with 1,148, while the lowest is Seville, with 437.
-The number of coronavirus patients hospitalised has dropped by 62 in 24 hours making a total of 1,650, some 442 less than a week ago, while admissions to an intensive care unit have also fallen by 18 to 183, which represents a decrease of 53 in the week-on-week comparison. Covid Malaga- The rate of Covid in Málaga up after three weeks of fall and there are nearly 1,800 new cases: {Translation} Feb10, 22 13:44
-The Covid rate is rising again in the province of Malaga, there are almost 1,800 more infected people, four more deaths have been reported with the virus and once again the number of newly infected people exceeds the number of cured people.
-The increase from 501.1 positives per 100,000 inhabitants on Wednesday to 526.1 on Thursday breaks the downward trend that has been uninterrupted since 21 January. It also breaks in the city of Malaga – which between the two days rises from 520.6 to 550.6 – and in Andalusia – where it rises from 592.9 to 618.1.
-In line with the increase in incidence, there has been a rise in the number of new infections. There are 1,799 positives reported in the last few hours, the highest daily figure in the last three weeks.
-Another negative aspect of the epidemiological situation is that the number of new infections – 1,799 – is once again higher than the number of cured cases – 1,481. During the last two weeks the situation was the other way around: there were more discharges than new positives.
-According to information from the Consejería de Salud y Familias, the pressure for care is down. From 321 hospitalised patients in the province on Wednesday, the number has fallen to 315 this Thursday. Of these, 29 are in the ICU. Spanish police warn of increase in scams on popular car-sharing app:
-The Cybercrime Department detected a notable increase in the number of scams targeted at users of a well-known mobile application that connects drivers with passengers for car-sharing allowing them to share the costs.
-The scam involves the victim (the passenger) being persuaded by the scammer (the driver) to continue the conversation outside the mobile application, usually via WhatsApp. The scammer claims that certain fees can be saved by making the payment outside of the app, or that the platform is not working properly.
-Once the victim has come to an agreement with the “driver” about the trip, the scammer provides the passenger with a link to a web page that impersonates the original platform, where the victim will be asked to make payment pay for the journey. This allows the scammer to get hold of the victim’s bank card details and immediately make online purchases on foreign websites. MALAGA

Malaga no longer kills dogs- its animal health center, one of the first in Spain to achieve zero culling: {Translation} 10/02/2022 20:00h
-Abandoned pets are no longer killed in Malaga. The municipal animal health centre was one of the first in Spain to achieve ‘zero culling’. From the almost 2,000 animals that the Town Hall slaughtered in 2011, last year it went down to 33, and this was for strictly sanitary reasons.
-This is a 98% reduction compared to the figures of a decade ago, when practically all the animals received by the municipal kennels were euthanised.
-According to the City Council, a total of 993 animals, 544 dogs and 449 cats, were admitted to the zoosanitary centre last year. The campaigns to encourage adoption are having an effect. A total of 797 pets found homes, an increase of 11% on the previous year.
-As a result, only 14 dogs and 19 cats had to be euthanised, all of them for health reasons, as confirmed by the municipal veterinarians.
-The so-called ‘zero culling’ is one of the objectives that has been included in the government programme in recent mandates in terms of animal welfare and protection and is also part of the co-government agreement with the Ciudadanos group.
-But there has also been a drastic decrease in the number of admissions to the Consistory’s animal centre. There were 310 in 2021 compared to 1,594 in 2011. The City Council attributes this to the increase in public awareness of responsible pet ownership.
-There has also been a notable reduction in the number of cats collected by municipal services on the public highway. There were 299 in 2021 compared to 1,020 in 2011, 71% less, which is justified by the “success” of the programme launched in 2014 for the efficient management of feral cat colonies.

Covid Spain- Spain has 62,839 cases and 282 deaths, while the incidence drops 201 points to 1,692: {Translation, summary} 9Feb22
-The autonomous communities have notified the Ministry of Health of 62,839 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday. These figures are lower than on the same day last week, when 86,222 positive cases were reported, which is evidence of the downward trend in the evolution of the pandemic. Moreover, the cumulative incidence has fallen by 201 since yesterday.
-The total number of infections in Spain now stands at 10,502,141 since the start of the pandemic, according to official statistics. The cumulative incidence in the last 14 days per 100,000 inhabitants stands at 1,692.52 compared to 1,893.35 yesterday. In the past two weeks a total of 802,004 positives have been recorded.
-In Wednesday’s report, 282 new deaths have been added, compared to 224 last Wednesday. As many as 95,213 people have died since the virus arrived in Spain, according to data compiled by the ministry. In the last week, 812 people have died with a confirmed positive test in Spain.
-Currently, there are 14,440 COVID-19 positive patients in hospital throughout Spain (15,206 yesterday) and 1,700 in ICU (1,768 yesterday). In the last 24 hours, there have been 1,396 admissions (1,456 yesterday) and 2,060 discharges (2,142 yesterday). SPAIN

Spain ends the general use of Covid masks outdoors today, but there are exceptions: It is a measure that the autonomous regions and the Ministry of Health agreed last Monday and that the Government approved on Tuesday during a meeting of ministers. The masks, therefore, will no longer be mandatory in outdoor spaces and school playgrounds from this Thursday, 10 February.
However, the order maintains the use of masks “in mass events” and they also remain mandatory on public transport, “specifying that this includes passenger platforms, stations and cable cars.” Full article:

The minimum wage in Spain increases to 1,000 euros per month:
The increase of 35 euros will be retroactive for the month of January. Employers representatives are however unhappy with the new agreement arguing that it is an economically unfavourable time to introduce the increase. Previously the minimum wage was 965 euros per month. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/spain/minimum-wage-spain-20220209162710-nt.html

Slow Courts- Body of US software mogul John McAfee still in Barcelona morgue, seven months after his death: A judge in Spain has ruled that the 75-year-old businessman died by suicide in his prison cell in June 2021 while he awaited extradition to his home country. His family is planning to appeal the decision and request the probe be kept open.
The months-long investigation is not quite over yet, as lawyers for McAfee’s family have appealed the Spanish judge’s decision to provisionally close the case. The provincial court of Barcelona must now decide whether to confirm the judge’s decision or order him to keep the investigation open. The family has argued that the autopsy was incomplete and lacked the “basic elements” to draw definitive conclusions about the cause of death, according to defense sources. Photo:Ng Han Guan (AP). Not half of Andalusian workers even reach the minimum wage: {Translation}
-A report by the Andalusian CCOO warns that Andalusian workers are poorer now than they were ten years ago.
-More than half of the Andalusian working population is paid below the Minimum Interprofessional Wage (SMI), according to a report by CCOO Andalucía.
-The Andalusian CCOO Secretary for Working Conditions, Yolanda Carrasco, pointed out at the presentation of the report that “today being a mileurista (The word is possibly “millionaire” in Andaluz dialect, my translator does not recognize it? -Ed.) has become an objective to be achieved for a large part of the population, as the reforms and measures implemented in the last decade and, especially the 2012 labour reform, have attacked the working class, reducing people’s purchasing power and making us poorer today than we were ten years ago”.
-CCOO Andalucía believes that the new labour reform “rebalances labour relations” and “establishes a regulatory framework that allows progress on the path of improving rights in the face of the detrimental trend of the last decade”.
-Carrasco called on employers to “sit down and negotiate to reach agreements for the coming years that guarantee wage increases”.
-He recalled that the IV Collective Bargaining Agreement included the approval of the minimum wage of 14,000 euros, which is why he considers it “incomprehensible” that the employers are opposed to raising the minimum wage to one thousand euros.
-“The attitude of the employers has been entrenched in the 0% wage increase in many agreements and we must remind them that it is not about earning much more, but about recovering the wages we had before the 2012 reform,” he said.
-Carrasco defended that “contrary to what was thought, employment has risen with the rise in the SMI”.
-CCOO believes that the proposed increase in the SMI will especially benefit young women aged between 16 and 35 who have a temporary contract in the agricultural, services and telecommunications sectors, and will help to reduce the gender pay gap.
-According to the data in this report, in the case of Cádiz, the proportion of workers earning below the Minimum Interprofessional Wage has increased by 11.2% in the last decade, rising from 40% in 2010 to 51.2% in 2020. A breakdown leaves thousands of Movistar customers unable to make or receive calls: The incident began Wednesday mid-morning and is especially affecting corporate clients. Some companies have begun to inform their workers about the “massive problems throughout the national territory” that are preventing normal communications.
The company is working to solve the incident. The breakdown has affected calls, preventing normal conversations and causing various problems. However, data services are left out and internet applications continue to work.
Other messages indicate that the fault is fundamentally affecting corporate clients and calls made with 4G coverage. Some customers notice that even switching to other networks the problem remains. Nuclear fusion heat record a ‘huge step’ in quest for new energy source: The feat announced on Wednesday follows more than two decades of tests and refinements at the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy and has been hailed as a “major milestone” on the road to fusion becoming a viable and sustainable low-carbon energy source.
Researchers at the Joint European Torus (JET), a fusion experiment in Oxfordshire, generated 59 megajoules of heat – equivalent to about 14kg of TNT – during a five-second burst of fusion, more than doubling the previous record of 21.7 megajoules set in 1997 by the same facility.

Solar storm disables 40 newly launched SpaceX satellites: A geomagnetic storm triggered by a large burst of radiation from the sun has disabled at least 40 of the 49 satellites newly launched by SpaceX as part of its Starlink internet communications network, the company said.
The announcement, posted on the company’s website on Tuesday, said the satellites were stricken last Friday, Feb. 4, a day after they were launched to a preliminary “low-deployment” orbit about 130 miles (210 km) above Earth.
SpaceX, the Los Angeles area-based rocket company founded by billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, has launched hundreds of small satellites into orbit since 2019 as part of Musk’s Starlink service for broadband internet. The company ultimately envisions a constellation of roughly 12,000 satellites in all. Photo of Starlink 5 satellites: Ritzau Scanpix.
