– Organised crime groups have found a new way to make money in the property market through identity theft and forged documents, selling homes that do not belong to them. Posing as the rightful owners, they manage to complete fraudulent transactions without the owners’ authorisation. According to lawyers specialising in property fraud, these are “organised structures” targeting second homes and luxury villas on the Costa del Sol, whose owners, most of them foreign nationals, spend long periods outside Spain. “It is the biggest fraud at the moment,” Cecilio Sánchez, a solicitor at Mercury Abogados, told this newspaper.
– Miguel Ángel Escalante, of Escalante & Botello Abogados, also warns that the search for property assets has spread from Marbella across Málaga province and is now affecting the provincial capital. Owners are being drawn into legal battles lasting years as they try to recover their properties. “In Marbella, transactions worth millions of euros are taking place,” the lawyer estimates.
– The problem becomes more serious when a property is sold for a second time after the fraudulent transfer. Fraudsters may offer it at a competitive price to attract an investor unaware of what has happened. If that buyer meets the legal requirements for protection as a bona fide third party and the conditions for protection under the land registration system are satisfied, the original owner “will never be able to recover their property”. “They are protected by the Mortgage Act,” the expert stresses.

A fire in Vélez-Málaga forces the evacuation of 12 people in El Trapiche: {Trans, summary}

– The National Police have begun the eviction of the outlying neighbourhood of Los Rosales and the settlement of the warehouses of El Tarajal in a large operational deployment that began around 7:00 a.m. this Sunday.

Fires and violent clashes rock France, 2000 arrested after looting, arson during protests:
– More than 1,800 people were arrested across France following riots, looting and arson during cost-of-living protests, Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said Sunday. The unrest on Saturday has sharpened tensions ahead of France’s 2027 presidential election, as anger over living costs collides with tight limits on government spending.
– The country’s Interior Ministry said more than 600 officers were injured. Paris police reported 855 arrests, describing the figure as a record. Prosecutors said 517 people remained in custody, including 171 minors. Those figures were provisional, with arrests continuing until early Sunday. Most arrests in the capital were linked to suspected handling of stolen goods, participation in a group intending to commit violence, and vandalism.
– In central France, rioters set fire to Limoges’ historic town hall, leaving much of it gutted. Mayor Guillaume Guerin condemned the destruction. Authorities reported attacks on public buildings and shops in Marseille, Lyon, Avignon and Grenoble. Police used tear gas, batons and water cannon in several cities. Demonstrators were also reported injured. The newspaper Le Figaro reported that a 17-year-old lost a hand to a grenade fired by police in Saint-Etienne.
– Far-right candidate Marine Le Pen accused the party of her far-left rival Jean-Luc Melenchon of having “legitimized the violence.” She pledged to protect the French “from the violence of the extreme left.”
– US President Donald Trump blamed the protests in France on immigration. “The immigration of people from an entirely different world, people with hatred in their hearts, has shattered that once great country,” Trump posted on his Truth Social account.
– The demonstrations brought together grievances over fuel prices, low wages and problems facing farmers and firefighters. School and university students demanding better learning conditions also participated.
