Vetiver is a rapid growing and non-invasive sterile clump grass with a height of 1-2 metres and a root system of 3-4 metres in depth. We have been providing Vetiver throughout the EU for almost 10 years now. We are located in Sayalonga where we can plant year round but our best results by far start in February. The reason is that Vetiver is indigenous to India and Vetiver loves the heat of the summer. Use Vetiver cuttings as mulch around all of your fruit trees. Decomposing Vetiver improves soil quality, keeps the weeds down and the insects away all while helping to maintain soil moisture.
Vetiver is a nutritious and replenishable animal fodder. Horses and pigs love it. We use it in our chicken pens replacing hay because it stops mites.
In the 2 photos below you will see land prepared for Vetiver and the results 2 years later.
We also use Vetiver along driveways and sidewalks. It also makes a great and inexpensive ornamental hedge.

Fakebook Log-in Problems: {by Editor} Many readers are reporting they cannot sign into Facebook using a web browser, including myself. The FB mobile device apps do not appear to have this problem. As far as I have figured out, it has to do with the new anti-tracking & anti-cookie features that have recently been added to browsers like Chrome, Firefox, etc. As to why it happens to some people and not others, I am still investigating.
The data of yours that FB sells to advertisers is worth 10x as much if it has your location included. Tracker blockers prevent FB from collecting your location. Cookie blockers prevent FB from collecting lists of websites you visit and searches you do. Evidently, if you won’t let FB have your location and lists of every website/search you visit, they are not interested in giving you access. Note, if you are using a mobile device FB app, then they already know your location. That is why the app is not having this problem.
FB support has been useless in helping fix this.
My solution was to install a web browser without the anti-tracking features. I am now forced to use Pale Moon web browser to access FB. It is a slow browser, but it works with FB. See Pale Moon here: http://www.palemoon.org/

-Fortunately, the region has had another day with no deaths due to the disease, making 13 days without any deaths since Wednesday 30 June. This Tuesday we must also add another 3 people recovered from COVID-19.
-With regard to the new positives in the last 24 hours, the following have been registered: 33 in Rincón de la Victoria; 30 in Vélez-Málaga; 7 in Torrox; 5 in Nerja; 2 in Frigiliana; and 1 in Algarrobo, Benamocarra, Periana, La Viñuela and Moclinejo.
-As for people who have overcome the disease, 3 have been reported in Vélez-Málaga.
-The incidence in the Axarquia Health District (which includes Casabermeja) is at 262.1 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, 18.8 points more than yesterday Monday (243.3) and 144.6 more than a week ago (117.5). The district is again at extreme risk after exceeding the rate of 250 infections per 100,000 inhabitants. It had not done so since 15 February. -Of the five coastal municipalities of Axarquia, Torrox is the only one with an incidence of COVID-19 below 200 cases with a rate of 183.9 infections, at high risk. Also at this level is Nerja (231.7), while Algarrobo (503.4), Vélez-Málaga (312) and Rincón de la Victoria (305.5) are at extreme risk.

What are self-diagnostic Covid-19 tests and how reliable are they?: {Translation}

The feria in Rincon de la Victoria will go ahead from July 15, with attractions and concerts by Maria de la Colina and Las Soles:
Taking place until July 18 the feria´s concerts will be based in Plaza Al-Andalus and in the Plaza de la Constitucion between 8.30 pm and midnight.

U.S. to announce new warning on J&J coronavirus vaccine for autoimmune disorder: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is expected to announce a new warning on Johnson & Johnson’s (JNJ.N) coronavirus vaccine related to a rare autoimmune disorder. About 100 preliminary reports of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) have been detected in the United States after vaccination with J&J shot, mostly in men, many of whom were 50 or older.
The condition has been linked in the past to vaccinations – most notably to a vaccination campaign during a swine flu outbreak in the United States in 1976, and decades later to the vaccine used during the 2009 H1N1 flu pandemic.

Valencia region paves way for how curfews can return to Spain without state of alarm powers:
-The regional government headed by Ximo Puig has received the backing of the Valencian district attorney’s office regarding the return of Covid-19 measures such as the curfew and limits on social gatherings as a means of curbing rising infections in the eastern territory.
-In early June, Spain’s Supreme Court ruled that these two types of measures should not be implemented since the state of alarm ended on May 9th, considering that such restrictions encroach on fundamental freedoms and are not proportional to the whole territory.
-But on this occasion Valencia’s public prosecutor’s office has considered the limit of ten people in public or private settings across the region as well as the 1am to 6am curfew in high-risk municipalities with more than 5,000 inhabitants to be balanced and corresponding to the region’s epidemiological situation.

COVID-19- Most rules to end in England on 19 July – but face masks and ‘passports’ encouraged: England will move to the fourth and final stage of the government’s roadmap for lifting lockdown restrictions in a week’s time, the health secretary has confirmed to MPs.
In what Sajid Javid said was a “major milestone”, the move to step four on 19 July will see social distancing rules and limits on social contact removed across the country.

-The Malaga High Impact Public Health Alert Committee has decreed that the Malaga, Costa del Sol and Guadalhorce health districts be downgraded to Health Alert Level 2, while maintaining the Axarquia, La Vega and Serrania health districts at Alert Level 1.
-The health districts to which the 31 villages of the Axarquia region belong have an incidence rate in the last 14 days of 290.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the case of the health district of Malaga and 129.9 in the case of the health district of Axarquia.

Rare albino stag spotted in Malaga Province: The video which Club de Caza, Spain’s largest hunting magazine, obtained shows the stag in all his glory, his coat is completely white and his antlers are pale pink as opposed to the usual brown. Cell phones and cancer- New UC Berkeley study suggests cell phones sharply increase tumor risk: New UC Berkeley research draws a strong link between cell phone radiation and tumors, particularly in the brain. Researchers took a comprehensive look at statistical findings from 46 different studies around the globe and found that the use of a cell phone for more than 1,000 hours, or about 17 minutes a day over a ten year period, increased the risk of tumors by 60 percent. UPDATE– Antigen Test not sufficient for UK to Spain travel, unless you are a “habitual resident”:
Testing and vaccination requirements for arrivals from the UK: (Lots of contradictory info out there, this is the best I could find. -Ed.)
From 2 July 2021, the Spanish government requires all arrivals to Spain from the UK (excluding children under the age of 12 years old) to present on entry one of the following:
-documentation issued within 48 hours prior to arrival in Spain, certifying that you have undertaken a COVID-19 test, e.g. PCR, TMA, LAMP or NEAR, and tested negative. Antigen tests are not currently accepted for the majority of travellers.
-Proof of being fully vaccinated at least 14 days prior to arrival in Spain (date(s) of vaccination must be specified), with a vaccine authorised by the European Medicines Agency or by the World Health Organisation
*If you live in England, Spain will accept the NHS COVID Pass or your NHS letter to demonstrate your COVID-19 vaccination status. If you live in Scotland or Wales, Spain will accept your respective NHS letter to demonstrate your COVID-19 vaccination status. Your NHS appointment card from vaccination centres is not designed to be used as proof of vaccination and should not be used to demonstrate your vaccine status. Spain drafts legal reform allowing state to mobilize all adults in times of crisis as well as requisition private assets: The draft legislation indicates that all citizens, without exception, must follow the orders and instructions of the relevant authorities if a state of crisis – or “situation of interest to national security” as it is termed in the document – is declared. The reform also states that authorities can temporarily requisition all types of assets, take over or temporarily occupy those that are needed and suspend all activity.

New rules which will allow fully vaccinated Brits to return from amber list destinations without having to quarantine will be revealed this week: Holiday destinations including Spain, Greece and Portugal are currently on the UK’s amber list, meaning Brits have to quarantine for 10 days when returning to the country.
It has been revealed that the government want UK travellers who have been double-jabbed to be able to avoid the amber quarantine restrictions.

Self-Isolation Rules Ease as U.K. Faces 100,000 Cases a Day: Health Secretary Sajid Javid announced that from Aug. 16, “anyone who is a close contact of a positive case will no longer have to self-isolate if they have been fully vaccinated.” The same rule will apply to under-18s, who are not currently being vaccinated, he said.

Travel Update- Despite prior announcements to the contrary, Spain to also accept travellers with cheaper rapid antigen tests: Updated: 7 Jun 2021
-Spain will allow travellers to enter the country as of Monday (7 June) if they have been vaccinated against COVID-19, present a negative PCR test or show that they have tested negative with a cheaper rapid antigen test. EURACTIV’s partner EFE reported.
-The Spanish Official Gazette published a revised national regulation on Saturday, which adds fast antigen tests to the list of possible ways to enter the country. The only way until now to enter the country was with a PCR test done up to 72 hours before the trip. However, such PCR tests are more expensive in the EU than antigen tests. For example, in Spain, they cost about €100.
-Valid entry documents – according to the revised regulation – include vaccination and recovery certificates, including the EU Digital COVID Certificate, which is in the process of being rolled out across the bloc.
-Government sources quoted by newspaper El Pais said travellers from third countries will need to have been fully vaccinated at least 14 days before arrival in order to enter Spain. Germany relaxes restrictions for travelers from UK and other countries: Germany’s public health institute said on Monday the United Kingdom, India, Portugal and Russia were no longer “areas of variant concern”, reducing travel restrictions for people arriving from those countries.
All four countries had been downgraded to “high incidence areas”, the Robert Koch Institute said, meaning their citizens can now travel to Germany and quarantine on arrival for 10 days. The quarantine period can be shortened to five days if they test negative for COVID-19. Vaccine effectiveness in preventing both infection and symptomatic disease fell to 64% since June 6, the Health Ministry said.
