Recommendations & Requests

Spanish driving licence: Thought I’d post this, as a follow up to my post last week. I tried and tried, all week, to get through to Trafico, using the 060 number. I had no success, and every time I did get through, I couldn’t make myself understood.
However, today (Christmas Eve) the system worked, and I got through to someone who spoke English, and understood me completely. I had to give the usual information, DOB, full name, NIE, and English driving licence number, and that was it. I have now got six months in which to make an appointment to go to Malaga to
get my licence. This can be done online at http://www.dgt.es/es/ , and apparently, the instructions are easy to follow. (Use tool in top right of page to change display language. -Ed.)
I was assured that this is all I need to do, and that everything will be ok after Brexit. Hope this helps someone. Stay safe!

Andalusia announces that on Monday it will review the situation to decide whether to extend the Christmas measures: {Translated from https://sevilla.abc.es} Updated: 26/12/2020 18: 21
The president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, has declared this Saturday that Andalusians “do not relax” in the face of the coronavirus after announcing “the first data after Christmas”, which means that “hospitalizations drop below 1,000. According to the data released by the Andalusian president, hospitalizations stand at 975, with 236 patients in the ICU.
Through a tweet published on his personal Twitter account, the Andalusian president has announced that “on Monday we will decide if it is necessary to reinforce the measures”, in reference to the scheduled meeting of the Covid-19 Alert Committee that advises the Andalusian Government. “We continue to monitor,” pointed out Moreno, who considered that “it would be good news to start vaccination with the best possible data.”
This Sunday the start of vaccinations in Andalusia is scheduled against the coronavirus, as in all of Spain. The first doses of the vaccine against Covid-19 developed by the company Pfizer have already arrived in Spain and are in a warehouse in Guadalajara from where they will be distributed in the next few hours equally between the points designated by all the communities and cities autonomous to begin vaccination this Sunday.
The Andalusian Government announced on Wednesday the location of the vaccination points for Covid-19 in the first phase of the program. There will be 45 health centers and 37 hospitals that will dispense the vaccine, made up of 177 teams with 526 nursing professionals.
Of these, 73 will be mobile to be able to reach nursing homes and vaccinate all residents and their workers in the first two weeks. Source, Spanish: https://sevilla.abc.es/andalucia/sevi-andalucia-anuncia-lunes-revisara-situacion-para-decidir-si-amplia-medidas-navidad-202012261220_noticia.html

Andalusia exceeds 5,000 deaths from Covid since the pandemic began by adding 32 more: {Translated from https://sevilla.abc.es}
Updated: 26/12/2020 17:14
Andalusia has exceeded 5,000 deaths from Covid-19 coronavirus this Saturday, December 26, adding 32 since Thursday (on Christmas Day the Board did not publish the report), according to data from the Ministry of Health and Families, which counts 1,410 positives plus.
-Specifically, on this day 5,019 deaths have been reached, after adding 32 since Thursday, which is a lower figure than the 41 deaths registered on Thursday itself, 37 on Wednesday, 33 on Tuesday and 40 on Monday. Of the 32 deaths, ten have been recorded in Seville, six in Córdoba, five in Cádiz , three in Granada, two in Almería, Huelva, Jaén and Málaga.
-Regarding the 1,410 cases, Malaga with 270 has been the province that has added the most positives, followed by Cádiz with 224 and Seville with 206. Below 200 infections are Granada with 183, Almería with 175, Jaén with 152, Córdoba with 109 and Huelva with 91.
-The patients admitted to Andalusian hospitals for Covid-19 have been reduced this Saturday, December 26, to 975, 103 less than Thursday and 213 less than last Saturday, of which 236 are in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) , two less than Thursday and 15 less than seven days ago.
-The number of hospitalized patients falls by 103 compared to Thursday – since the data were not made public on Christmas Day – after the decrease of 43 on Thursday and 48 on Wednesday after rising by 17 on Tuesday and 23 on Monday, reduced by 59 on Sunday and by 29 on Saturday. The 975 hospitalized patients counted this Saturday are 213 less than the 1,188 registered seven days ago, 1,733 less than the 2,708 registered on March 30 in the maximum peak of the first wave and 2,503 less than the 3,478 of the peak of hospitalized in the second wave on November 10.
-For its part, the number of ICU admissions fell by two, after increasing by three on Thursday, falling from twelve on Wednesday and after remaining stable on Tuesday, falling by two on Monday and Sunday and by eleven on Saturday past.
-The president of the Board, Juanma Moreno, also sent a tweet to emphasize this decrease in the thousand hospitalized. However, he again stressed that we must not lower our guard or relax and that on Monday they will decide “if it is necessary to reinforce the measures”, that is, more restrictions. Madrid detects at least 4 cases of new British covid-19 strain but does not tighten restrictions: It was only a matter of time. The new strain of covid-19, 70% more contagious, which has led to the United Kingdom back into lockdown and the cancellation of flights by different European states has now reached Spain. The Madrid region has detected at least four cases and is studying three more, as explained today by the Deputy Minister of Public Health, Antonio Zapatero, during a telematic press conference. The four confirmed cases are related to travellers from the United Kingdom who “have entered through the Madrid-Barajas airport”. We are a Torrox-based company specialising in the creation of formulae which help prevent premature skin ageing
We are committed to making effective products at affordable prices
NEW PRODUCT – Face Cleanser With Bulgarian Rose is now available, 100% organic & vegan
As our skin is the first layer of our defence against microbial infections, ultraviolet radiation and environmental contamination it plays a vital role in our health. As we grow older, however, our skin becomes thinner, wrinkled, and more sensitive; hence it requires the use of treatments containing specific ingredients to the care of treating mature skin.
Recognising this need we have created a range of formulae which help
-slow down ageing process by smoothing fine lines and wrinkles.
-improve facial complexion and eliminate blemishes.
At Moonette, we are passionate about health, beauty and plants. Your skin will benefit from the properties of botanic essential oils combined with a selection of nutrients for deep hydration, cell revitalization and antioxidant effect, all sourced from the finest natural ingredients with gorgeous fragrances.
Naturally, we care about our planet and feel the need to help reduce the sheer volumes of plastics waste that are generated daily around the globe. Millions more in England moved into toughest Tier 4 lockdown from Boxing Day: Updated Dec 23, 2020, 4:20 PM. Millions more people in England will be subject to the most severe Tier 4 restrictions following the “dangerous” spread of the new strain of coronavirus.
Speaking at a Downing Street press conference on Wednesday, health secretary Matt Hancock said: “It is absolutely vital that we act”.
On Boxing Day, 6 million people will move from Tier 3 to Tier 4. The affected areas are Sussex; Oxfordshire; Suffolk; Norfolk; Cambridgeshire, parts of Essex not yet in Tier 4; Waverley in Surrey; and Hampshire including Portsmouth and Southampton but excluding the New Forest.
That means a total of 24 million people, or 43% of England’s population, will be in Tier 4. Full article with video: https://news.yahoo.com/more-areas-england-tier-4-152020576.html?

Police in Malaga seize counterfeit cash: Posing as rich people, with high purchasing power, an alleged organised crime gang has been smashed by National Police officers in Malaga. After a stake out police recovered 11,000 euros in legal tender, 200,000 euros in counterfeit bank notes, six mobile phones, a money counting machine and a car in Operation ‘Carmiña’. Spain’s new relief package rings hollow for struggling hospitality businesses, no cash benefits: The measures in the Plan de Refuerzo do not include direct aid. Instead, they aim to help small retailers and hospitality entrepreneurs increase their liquidity by incentivizing rent reductions, offering tax deferrals, improving access to financing and delaying Social Security contributions.
The overarching goal is to reduce companies’ fixed costs and adapt them to the new reality faced by hundreds of thousands of businesses affected by the crisis. The impact of the new plan is estimated at €4.2 billion, according to government spokesperson María Jesús Montero. But, as good as that security might be, it’s not enough—and we have seen news this week that should serve as a serious warning that there’s more you must do to keep your WhatsApp account secure. Beware of private gold purchases with strangers: Police in Seville have revealed details of an open-air shootout that followed a gold deal in one of the city’s most infamous neighbourhoods.
The shocking incident occurred shortly before 8 PM on October 12th, while the streets of Seville’s southern Su Eminencia area were still full of children and families enjoying the pleasant evening weather.
Two men arrived at a home with the intention of purchasing 40,000 euro worth of gold but were attacked by a gang upon arriving. Police launched an investigation into the brazen incident, and have now arrested 9 people following 12 raids. The perpetrators are reportedly all members of an infamous local crime family of Portuguese origin who have been long settled in Seville’s deeply deprived southern peripheries where violence and addiction are rampant. Mail for Sheri Pughes?: We regularly check the post box in Torrox village for a friend with the surname Hughes. He keeps having mail for a Sheri Hughes/Pughes put into the box, with the address Parcela 535, Barranco Plano. Does that ring a bell with anybody? If it does I suggest a trip to the Post Office where mail is awaiting!

Spain suspends flights from the UK apart from those carrying Spaniards, Spanish residents: The measure, which has also been adopted by Portugal, has been taken after a new, more contagious strain of the coronavirus was identified in London and parts of the south of England by the UK authorities, prompting stricter lockdown measures in parts of the country and ruining the Christmas plans of many families.
As many as 23 European countries had already opted to suspend flights between their airports and the United Kingdom in a bid to prevent this new mutation of the coronavirus from reaching their territories. The Spanish government, however, had said on Sunday that it would await a decision from the European Union on a joint approach to travellers arriving from the United Kingdom before taking action. Gibraltar toughens restrictions as Covid-19 case figures soar:
Gibraltar has announced further Covid-19 restrictions to begin at midnight tonight. In a statement to parliament, chief minister Fabian Picardo explained that numbers of active cases are rising exponentially: from 47 active cases on 10 December to 60 on 15th, 71 the following day and 202 today. 1,365 people are currently in self-isolation, compared with 222 six days ago.
From midnight, masks must be worn in every public place in Gibraltar, and all catering establishments except takeaways must close until 11 January, possibly longer.
Shops may remain open, but must enforce the same controls as when Gibraltar began to come out of lockdown earlier this year, with limits on numbers inside, hand sanitiser etc. All gymnasiums must close from tomorrow. Winter Solstice 2020- The First Day of Winter: The winter solstice happens on Monday, December 21, 2020. This is the astronomical first day of winter in the Northern Hemisphere and the shortest day of the year.
The winter solstice marks the official beginning of astronomical winter (as opposed to meteorological winter, which starts about three weeks prior to the solstice). The winter solstice occurs once a year in each hemisphere: once in the Northern Hemisphere (in December) and once in the Southern Hemisphere (in June). It marks the start of each hemisphere’s winter season. When one hemisphere is experiencing their winter solstice, the other is simultaneously experiencing their summer solstice! Andalucía PLANS to bring in a mandatory ‘Covid card’ to travel or attend events: (WARNING- This needs more confirmation as I only found one source. -Ed.) The Junta de Andalucía plans to issue a ‘passport’ for people who have been vaccinated against Covid-19 from next 27 December with the aim of requiring it in certain events to avoid contagions in the future.
This was announced on Friday by the president of the regional government, Juanma Moreno, who explained that this “certificate will serve to know who has been vaccinated and who has not”.
The president said, “Obviously no one will be forced to be vaccinated, but if someone is going to want to go to sporting or cultural events or if they are going to want to travel, they will have to be vaccinated.”
The regional head said that this should be an initiative that the central government should assume, but once again it is the regions that have to make decisions.
Moreno said he regretted that 17 different ways of fighting the pandemic have been promoted by each of the regional authorities with an absence of leadership at the national level that the state government should assume.
In an earlier interview on Telecinco, Juanma Moreno said that getting vaccinated is a “moral responsibility towards oneself, and towards others”. Source: http://www.surinenglish.com/local/202012/19/andalucia-will-implement-mandatory-20201219083918.html

Britain & CDC issue guidelines on COVID-19 vaccination after allergic reactions: The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Saturday said it was monitoring reports of allergic reactions to the COVID-19 vaccination and made recommendations on how people with histories of allergies should proceed.
-Anyone who had a severe reaction to a COVID-19 vaccine should not get the second dose, the agency said, defining severe as needing the medication epinephrine or treatment in a hospital.
-People who have had a severe allergic reaction to any ingredient in a COVID-19 vaccine should avoid the vaccine formulation containing the ingredient, CDC said. Two vaccines have been approved in the United States under emergency use authorizations.
-Individuals with histories of severe allergic reaction to vaccines should consult their doctors about the COVID-19 shot. The CDC said people with severe allergies to food, pets, latex or environmental conditions as well as people with allergies to oral medication or a family history of severe allergic reactions could still get vaccinated.
-The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is investigating around five allergic reactions that happened after people were administered Pfizer Inc and BioNTech SE’s COVID-19 vaccine in the United States this week.
-On Friday, the FDA said that the Moderna Inc vaccine, which received emergency use authorization, should not be given to individuals with a known history of a severe allergic reaction to any components of the shot.
-Britain’s medical regulator has said that anyone with a history of anaphylaxis, or severe allergic reactions to a medicine or food, should not be given the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. Source: https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-health-coronavirus-usa-vaccine-cdc-idUKKBN28U002

France, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria and Italy suspend flights with the United Kingdom over new Covid-19 strain & 48-Hour Travel Restrictions From The UK To Ireland: The Irish Government is to impose a 48-hour ban on flights from Britain following fears over the spread of a new strain of Covid-19, while ferries will be limited to freight travel. The ban is in place for tomorrow and Tuesday and the measures will be reviewed by the Cabinet on Tuesday. Ferry crossings between Ireland and the UK will continue in order to keep essential supply chains moving. (1)
Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Romania and Czechia have also announced bans on passenger flights from Britain. As of 9pm Sunday night Spain has resisted adopting these measures, but says they will “adopt stricter PCR testing”, without providing more details. (2,3)

Torrox Hotel Article: I read, with interest, the article about new Torrox Costa Hotels. Especially the suggestion that there would be one next to the Iberostar, given that the only obvious site would be the piece of land between the hotel and Laguna Beach Complex! They have just spent €155.550.99 turning the rough ground car park into a…Car Park. (Reference http://www.surinenglish.com/local/202012/18/plans-announced-boutique-hotel-20201218114639-v.html)

The Government prepares the approval on Tuesday of a 50 percent reduction in the rent to bars and premises: {Translated from https://sevilla.abc.es}
The Government prepares the approval for this Tuesday in the Council of Ministers of a royal decree by which large property holders must apply a 50% reduction in rents to hotel and commercial premises.
According to the draft finalized by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, the text will include, except for modifications, tax incentives for those who are not large holders (less than ten urban premises owned) and reduce the income they obtain from the rental of their premises dedicated to hospitality and commerce.
The deductions for rents, according to the draft of the future regulation, refer to the period of the state of alarm and as long as there has not been an agreement between the parties for a rent reduction, sources from the Ministry have confirmed.
The document already has a broad consensus, according to El País, and adds that the measure will not reduce public accounts as the minister of the sector, Reyes Maroto, has insisted for weeks.
This shock plan to mitigate the effects of the coronavirus crisis in the hospitality and commerce sector has had to be postponed on several occasions in the absence of a consensus. COVID in UK- The new strain of coronavirus – everything scientists are saying, and should we be worried?: The Prime Minister is reported to have held a meeting on Friday amid growing concern about the new variant of the virus.
There are fears a new variant of coronavirus may be speeding up the spread of Covid-19, particularly in south east England.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock said there is nothing to suggest this new strain is more likely to cause serious disease.
Boris Johnson was reported to have held an unscheduled meeting of ministers on Friday amid “growing concern” about the threat posed by the mutant strain – which is spreading fastest in South East England.
Professor Sir Mark Walport – a member of the Government’s Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) – said there was a real possibility that it could have a “transmission advantage”.
“What happens with viruses is they do naturally mutate all the time and the ones that are likely to do well are the ones that increase transmission,” he told BBC2’s Newsnight.
“We know that this is a new variant, it has been seen in other countries but it seems to be quite widespread which suggests that it has got a transmission advantage. Spanish driving licences: Went to my gestor yesterday, complete with all the information needed to get a Spanish driving licence.
I don’t drive in Spain, but thought I’d get one before the dreaded Brexit!
However, he told me that the Trafico have sent out a directive, saying that they are not accepting anymore applications for the licences, even though officially, we have got until the 31st of this month
before anything happens. He had no further information other than this, because like the rest of us, no one knows what is going to happen. He didn’t know if there was going to be an extension.
You might like to include this information in the next issue as I’m sure not everyone is aware of this.

What the BOJA says about the new hours of hospitality in Andalusia: {Translated from https://sevilla.abc.es} Updated: 12/18/2020 15: 36
The Junta de Andalucía has extended to ice cream parlors and chocolate shops the permit in force from this Friday, December 18, to cafeterias to be able to remain open in the range from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. , but without being able to dispense or allow the consumption of beverages alcoholics at that time.
This is established by a modification published in the Official Gazette of the Junta de Andalucía (BOJA) of the order of the Ministry of Health and Families Order of December 11 on temporary and exceptional measures for reasons of public health in Andalusia for the containment of Covid -19, during the pre-Christmas and Christmas period that has come into effect at 00.00 this Friday .
This order establishes that from this day on, “the establishments that carry out their activity according to the Economic Activities Tax epigraphs 672, 674.6 and 676, intended exclusively for cafeterias, chocolate and ice cream parlors , including similar establishments in cinemas and theaters, may remain open until half an hour before the time limit “in force until 10:30 pm, although” in these establishments the consumption and delivery of any type of alcoholic or spirits during the time slot between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm is strictly prohibited.
As stated by the Board in the order, this extension of hours is authorized “upon the request of the group of establishments called ‘cafeterias’ that the extension of the established hours has not included the possibility for these establishments to develop the main activity that is the object of the same, in other words, the service of those commonly known as ‘snacks’, which usually in accordance with our social habits are not given at the times currently established for catering and hotel establishments ».
The order of the Ministry of Health details that “the ‘snacks’ are associated with the service of confectionery, pastry, pastry and confectionery products, defined and regulated in Royal Decree 496/2010, of April 30, by which it is approved the quality standard for confectionery, pastry, pastry and confectionery products ”.
The opening of the cafeterias in that section from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. is a novelty with respect to the measures already announced for the second phase of the de-escalation plan designed by the Board that President Juanma Moreno announced last week, and that They have come into force at 0.00 hours this Friday, December 18.
Measures for Christmas
In addition, mobility between the provinces of the autonomous community, which was restricted to stop the expansion of the Covid-19 pandemic, is once again allowed in Andalusia from 0.00 hours this Friday, and until the next 10 January 2021 .
Similarly, from midnight on Friday, until 0.00 hours on January 10, the hours known as night curfew , by which the movement of people at night is limited, reduces by two hours its current extension and is set between 23:00 and 6:00 .
Also starting at 0.00 hours this Friday, the catering and hotel establishments will be able to remain open until 18.00 hours, as they have been up to now, and reopen from 20.00 hours to 22.30 hours . The novelty is that, in the period from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., cafeterias, ice cream parlors and chocolate shops will be able to remain open, although without dispensing alcoholic beverages.
In addition, as of midnight this Friday, the catering services will be able to carry out home delivery services until 11:30 p.m. the cut-off , although time for placing orders is set at 10:30 p.m. Source: https://sevilla.abc.es/andalucia/sevi-boja-nuevas-medidas-andalucia-permite-tambien-heladerias-y-chocolaterias-abrir-18-20-horas-202012181032_noticia.html

Immunizations will start taking place across all regions, which will receive enough doses to start vaccinating the top priority groups. “The doses will reach all the regions on Saturday the 26th or Sunday the 27th, in coordination with Europe, which will distribute them on the 26th,” said Illa. “All regions will receive the amount allotted to them equitably so they can begin their vaccination process.” Full article: https://english.elpais.com/society/2020-12-18/spains-coronavirus-vaccine-drive-set-to-start-on-december-27.html

Belgian Minister Angers Manufacturers by Tweeting EU’s Covid Vaccine Price List: The price list revealed that the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine is the cheapest and Moderna is the most expensive, something most people knew. However, the details allow countries that may be negotiating with the vaccine manufacturers to take a harder line. Drug and vaccine prices have always been very closely guarded commercial secrets- but this is the list of what the EU is paying for the vaccines:
Oxford/AstraZeneca: €1.78 (£1.61).
Johnson & Johnson: $8.50 (£6.30).
Sanofi/GSK: €7.56.
Pfizer/BioNTech: €12.
CureVac: €10.
Moderna: $18.

‘Everything seems to indicate’ there will be no Easter processions in 2021, says Junta president: The President of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, has said that “everything seems to indicate” that there will be no Holy Week processions in Andalucía in 2021, as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. It would be the second year without the traditional Semana Santa celebrations that usually see huge religious processions involving a massive number of partcipants and spectactators. Update- Worldwide Computer Hack, Microsoft Says Its Systems Were Also Breached in the Massive SolarWinds Hack This Week: The massive state-sponsored espionage campaign that compromised software maker SolarWinds causing worldwide outages on Gmail, Google Services, social media sites, etc., also targeted Microsoft Central, as the unfolding investigation into the hacking spree reveals the incident may have been far more wider in scope, sophistication, and impact than previously thought.
News of Microsoft’s compromise was first reported by Reuters, which also said the company’s own products were then used to strike other victims by leveraging its cloud offerings, citing people familiar with the matter.
Characterizing the hack as “a moment of reckoning,” Microsoft president Brad Smith said it has notified over 40 customers located in Belgium, Canada, Israel, Mexico, Spain, the UAE, the UK, and the US that were singled out by the attackers. 44% of the victims are in the information technology sector, including software firms, IT services, and equipment providers. (So perhaps that explains the ransomware attack I had, as reported on earlier this week. -Ed)

Canillas de Albaida Christmas Carol Service: We have been asked whether a Carol Service at Canillas de Albaida can take place, as last year. Sadly, the present regulations make it impracticable to do so this year.
Our Cathedral in Madrid is, however mounting a Carol Service which is being shared on-line at www.anglicanos.es. I attach the notice giving details, and some of you might like to tune in to this.
It is hoped to celebrate a first Service of Christmas on Christmas Eve, and should sufficient attend there will be carols in that service. I hope to send out information on this within a couple of days.
For those whom we will not see over Christmas, the Ministers and Congregation of the Church of St. Barnabas wish you all a happy, tranquil and blessed Christmas.

New measures for the coronavirus- Cafeterias in Andalusia may remain open from 6 to 8 p.m.: {Translated from https://sevilla.abc.es} Updated: 17/12/2020 19:04
The cafes in Andalusia may remain open in the range of 18:00 to 20:00 hours, provided they do not dispense alcoholic beverages, starting this Friday, December 18, according announced the Minister of Health and Family, Jesus Aguirre.
This measure was communicated by Aguirre at the press conference after the meetings of the territorial alert committees to analyse the situation of the coronavirus pandemic that were held this Thursday in each of the Andalusian provinces.
The extension of the schedule in the section from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. is the main novelty with respect to the measures announced for the second phase of the de-escalation plan that come into force at 00.00 hours this Friday, December 18.
New measures from December 18
The mobility between the provinces of the autonomous community to be allowed back in Andalusia beginning at 0.00 hours on Friday, and until 10 January 2021.
In the same way, the hours known as the curfew night, by which the movement of people at night is limited, reduces its current extension by two hours and is fixed between 23:00 and 6:00.
The catering services may also make home deliveries until 11:30 p.m.
Also starting at 0.00 hours this Friday, the catering and hotel establishments will be able to remain open until 18.00 hours, as before, and reopen from 20.00 hours to 22.30 hours . The novelty announced this Thursday is that, in the period from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., the cafeterias will be able to remain open, although without dispensing alcoholic beverages.
In addition, starting at midnight this Friday, the restaurant services will be able to carry out home delivery services until 11:30 p.m. the cut-off , although time for placing orders is set at 10:30 p.m.
The Minister of Health has pointed out that, although the Andalusian Government has for now decided not to harden the measures provided for in this de-escalation plan , it will not hesitate “to make the appropriate decisions that contribute to reducing the incidence of the pandemic in the community as much as possible.” depending on the evolution of the crisis, “in line” with what was discussed this Wednesday in the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System.
For this reason, Aguirre has reiterated his call to “prudence” , as well as to “compliance with the rules and sanitary hygiene measures at all times” by citizens. Source, Spanish: https://sevilla.abc.es/andalucia/sevi-nuevas-medidas-junta-cafeterias-andalucia-podran-permanecer-abiertas-18-20-horas-202012171250_noticia.html

Facebook and Instagram disable features in Europe: Facebook notified Instagram and Facebook Messenger users in Europe that some features of the app will be temporarily unavailable. A small prompt has appeared in both the Instagram apps and Facebook Messenger apps for European users earlier this week.
The message that the users received noted that some features of the said apps are not available to comply with the new rules for messaging services in Europe.
Facebook does not outline what specific features will be temporarily disabled, but the company does reveal on its support pages that the polls option on both Instagram and Messenger will be unavailable in Europe, as well as the stickers in Instagram and personalized replies on Messenger.
The other missing features may include limiting the files that can be sent on Messenger, changing nicknames, and the ability to share AR effects in direct messages on Instagram.
After this announcement by Facebook was made, it is still not clear when Facebook will lift the restrictions of the features for European users, but a spokesperson of Facebook told The Verge that it will be soon. Solidarity Concert in the Church of El Salvador Nerja: “More than 140 families in a situation of request for help due to serious economic difficulties due to business closures due to CORONAVIRUS”
Reading this news deeply moved us and made us take out and clean our tools – art and culture – stored since March, and get ‘down to work’.
The orchestral project “Málaga Camerata” arises from the concern of young musicians to create a space where they can enhance their aspects as ensemble instrumentalists, within an orderly and professional work environment.
Since its foundation, it has been made up of a stable staff of about 20 members. The number is due precisely to the fact that there is a special interest in reproducing classicism and pre-romantic music, with the greatest possible similarity in terms of training.
We know that we cannot help everyone; But we can get 20 of these families to celebrate Christmas this year as well. It is a challenge and it is possible, with your help 20 families can!
Day and hour: December 20 – 1’30pm
Place: Iglesia de El Salvador – Nerja
Address: Paseo de El Balcón de Europa
Donation: 25’00€

DoctorLaptop’s Laptop Tuneup Special: Now until the new year, a full maintenance service for only €50.
If you rely on your laptop for school, shopping or communications and want it running at peak performance, an annual professional servicing is necessary. This is especially true in these current times where people have their laptops on all day. You wouldn’t drive your car till it runs out of oil before servicing it, would you? If you did, the repair would be far more than the cost of the oil change you neglected. Same thing with computers, and laptops in particular.
I do the most comprehensive cleaning and tune-up possible: After an internal cleaning I verify all System files replacing any found to be corrupt, test all hardware and do hard disk sector repairs if needed, use 5 tool malware/adware/spyware removal protocol, update Windows+all drivers+programs, and finally optimize your settings for fastest overall performance. I use a special on-line scanner that will detect and remove malware that normal anti-virus programs cannot detect!
Job usually completed overnight. If you have multiple hard drives, or the hard drive is 1Tb or larger add €20.
Heavily infected comps or those showing error messages need a repair, not this maintenance service.

Barbecue: My favourite restaurateur, Joaquin, is having an open air barbecue at the Caracoles restaurant on the Torrox to Frigiliana road. Sunday 20th December at 13.00, there is a bus service he is putting on from Nerja, live music, as much food and drink as you can manage for 20 euros per head. We have had various tapas lunches there and I’m sure this will be an excellent day out. Tel. 952 00 9599 or 696 89 60 59.

Google sees major services outages two days in a row: Google has been having a rough time this week with service outages. It has now had two days, maybe even three days depending on who you ask, of major downtime.
On Monday, Google’s authentication system went down for about an hour, taking down Gmail, YouTube, Google Maps, Google Docs, and most other Google services. Google blamed the outage on “an internal storage quota issue,” which sounds a lot like Google ran out of storage space.
On Tuesday, Gmail started having problems again, which Google’s status dashboard described as “a significant subset of users… seeing error messages, high latency, and/or other unexpected behavior.” Many reports, like this one from TechCrunch, said emails were instantly bouncing. Rival email service ProtonMail even says some emails sent to Gmail have been “permanently lost” and will need to be sent again.
Google’s Gmail status dashboard says any problems were resolved yesterday (12/15) just before 10pm ET, but this morning there are still reports of disrupted service in the comments on DownDetector. In particular, users who access Gmail through third-party clients seem to be having problems. Junta orders mass Covid-19 screening tests in 32 municipalities across whole of Andalucía: The regional government has confirmed the locations but not yet announced the dates. The Junta de Andalucía has ordered new coronavirus screening sessions in 32 municipalities across the eight provinces of the region as the battle to get the virus under control continues.
In Malaga province the mass tests will take place in the towns of Humilladero and Benamocarra – although dates have not yet been confirmed.
Screening sessions are also planned for Iznájar in Cordoba and the Sevillian municipalities of Tomares, Castilblanco de los Arroyos and La Luisiana.
In Jaén the municipalities of Fuensanta de Martos, Ibros, Cazorla and La Higuera have been selected.
Virus testing will also be carried out in municipalities in the Alto Andarax region in the province of Almería. Specifically in Alboloduy, Alhabia, Alicún, Almócita, Aisdodux, Beires, Bentarique, Canjáyar, Huécija, Íllar, Instinción, Ohanes, Padules, Ragol, Santa Cruz de Marchena, Santa Fe de Mondújar, Terque and Pechina.
In the province of Cádiz screenings will be carried out in Algodonales, as well as in the Huelva municipalities of Villalba del Alcor and Isla Cristina.
Finally, the Junta’s Ministry of Health has announced that mass tests will be carried out in Granada capital, in the health districts of Zaidín Centro, Salvador Caballero, Góngora and Almanjáyar.

Coronavirus vaccines due to arrive in Spain from January 4, says health minister: Spanish Health Minister Salvador Illa announced on Monday that the first coronavirus vaccines could start arriving in Spain “from January 4 or 5,” once the European Medicines Agency (EMA) approves a vaccine candidate. The EMA is likely to approve the Covid-19 vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech by December 29 at the latest. This vaccine has already been approved for use in the United Kingdom, which began vaccinating priority groups last week.
Spain could start administering the vaccine early next month. Illa said that the “specific calendar” will depend on final approval by the EMA, which will meet in 15 days to analyze the Pfizer vaccine, and again on January 12 to do the same with Moderna’s. Strike forces closure of almost half of the ITV vehicle testing stations in Malaga province: Stoppages have been called by the UGT union for every Wednesday in December to protest the ‘deterioration’ of the vehicle technical inspection company Veiasa.
Four of the nine ITV vehicle testing stations in the province of Malaga have been closed this Wednesday during the second strike called by the UGT for every Wednesday in December.
Another four of the UK MOT-equivalent test centres were working at a reduced capacity as workers protest the blocking of collective agreement negotiations and restructuring of the workforce by the public company Veiasa.
The strikes resulted in the El Viso (Malaga city), Marbella, Mijas and Ronda sites fully closing.
Meanwhile the Algarrobo and Guadalhorce test centres were operating at 60 per cent of capacity, Antequera (50 per cent) and El Palo (30 per cent). Full article: http://www.surinenglish.com/local/202012/16/strike-forces-closure-almost-20201216190421.html

Ransomware Alert by DoctorLaptop: I don’t know if it is related to the problems Google has been having for the last 2 days, but tonight while using Chrome browser on Windows 10 to access Microsoft’s game site ZoneCasino.Vegasworld.com, I encountered a malware attack from the famous and very dangerous “CEBER” family of ransomware. This ransomware is well known for locking users out of their computers and demanding huge sums for the unlock key. If you fail to pay the ransom in 3 days it deletes all your data!
It has been a few years since I have seen an active ransomware attack here in Spain, although I do see pieces of incomplete, inactive ransomware occasionally on client’s computers, lying in wait for the other pieces it needs before initiating an attack. What I encountered was a strong one, arriving complete rather than in parts, downloading onto my laptop without permission as soon as I opened the games website, and immediately attacking on 3 levels simultaneously. Fortunately Windows Security caught the attack, eliminated the threats and alerted me it had removed the threats and suggested I do a full system scan to be sure all malware was gone. I don’t often praise Microsoft, but in this case their security program performed in impressive fashion.
In any case, if you encounter a similar ransomware alert from Windows Security, you probably don’t need to do anything, it will have been fixed by the time you get the alert, but do a Full Scan with Windows Security to be on the safe side. However, if the alert asks you if you want to remove the threat, do so.
Everyone using Windows 10 should confirm their ransomware protection is turned on- go to Settings>Update&Security>Windows Security>Virus&Threat Protection, then scroll down to Ransomware Protection, click on Manage Ransomware Protection, and there find Controlled Folder Access and be sure it is turned on (see pic).
This could be a dangerous trend if Microsoft’s own websites are getting hacked and spreading ransomware.
If you are a victim of ransomware it will lock your screen with a ransom message. Force the computer off using the Power button, and get it to me ASAP, within 24 hrs is best if I am to successfully recover the system, as I will be working against the clock, so to speak. The best protection, as always, is to keep your data backed up onto another device or the cloud.
