Solidarity Concert in the Church of El Salvador Nerja: “More than 140 families in a situation of request for help due to serious economic difficulties due to business closures due to CORONAVIRUS”
Reading this news deeply moved us and made us take out and clean our tools – art and culture – stored since March, and get ‘down to work’.
The orchestral project “Málaga Camerata” arises from the concern of young musicians to create a space where they can enhance their aspects as ensemble instrumentalists, within an orderly and professional work environment.
Since its foundation, it has been made up of a stable staff of about 20 members. The number is due precisely to the fact that there is a special interest in reproducing classicism and pre-romantic music, with the greatest possible similarity in terms of training.
We know that we cannot help everyone; But we can get 20 of these families to celebrate Christmas this year as well. It is a challenge and it is possible, with your help 20 families can!
Day and hour: December 20 – 1’30pm
Place: Iglesia de El Salvador – Nerja
Address: Paseo de El Balcón de Europa
Donation: 25’00€

DoctorLaptop’s Laptop Tuneup Special: Now until the new year, a full maintenance service for only €50.
If you rely on your laptop for school, shopping or communications and want it running at peak performance, an annual professional servicing is necessary. This is especially true in these current times where people have their laptops on all day. You wouldn’t drive your car till it runs out of oil before servicing it, would you? If you did, the repair would be far more than the cost of the oil change you neglected. Same thing with computers, and laptops in particular.
I do the most comprehensive cleaning and tune-up possible: After an internal cleaning I verify all System files replacing any found to be corrupt, test all hardware and do hard disk sector repairs if needed, use 5 tool malware/adware/spyware removal protocol, update Windows+all drivers+programs, and finally optimize your settings for fastest overall performance. I use a special on-line scanner that will detect and remove malware that normal anti-virus programs cannot detect!
Job usually completed overnight. If you have multiple hard drives, or the hard drive is 1Tb or larger add €20.
Heavily infected comps or those showing error messages need a repair, not this maintenance service.

Barbecue: My favourite restaurateur, Joaquin, is having an open air barbecue at the Caracoles restaurant on the Torrox to Frigiliana road. Sunday 20th December at 13.00, there is a bus service he is putting on from Nerja, live music, as much food and drink as you can manage for 20 euros per head. We have had various tapas lunches there and I’m sure this will be an excellent day out. Tel. 952 00 9599 or 696 89 60 59.

Google sees major services outages two days in a row: Google has been having a rough time this week with service outages. It has now had two days, maybe even three days depending on who you ask, of major downtime.
On Monday, Google’s authentication system went down for about an hour, taking down Gmail, YouTube, Google Maps, Google Docs, and most other Google services. Google blamed the outage on “an internal storage quota issue,” which sounds a lot like Google ran out of storage space.
On Tuesday, Gmail started having problems again, which Google’s status dashboard described as “a significant subset of users… seeing error messages, high latency, and/or other unexpected behavior.” Many reports, like this one from TechCrunch, said emails were instantly bouncing. Rival email service ProtonMail even says some emails sent to Gmail have been “permanently lost” and will need to be sent again.
Google’s Gmail status dashboard says any problems were resolved yesterday (12/15) just before 10pm ET, but this morning there are still reports of disrupted service in the comments on DownDetector. In particular, users who access Gmail through third-party clients seem to be having problems. Junta orders mass Covid-19 screening tests in 32 municipalities across whole of Andalucía: The regional government has confirmed the locations but not yet announced the dates. The Junta de Andalucía has ordered new coronavirus screening sessions in 32 municipalities across the eight provinces of the region as the battle to get the virus under control continues.
In Malaga province the mass tests will take place in the towns of Humilladero and Benamocarra – although dates have not yet been confirmed.
Screening sessions are also planned for Iznájar in Cordoba and the Sevillian municipalities of Tomares, Castilblanco de los Arroyos and La Luisiana.
In Jaén the municipalities of Fuensanta de Martos, Ibros, Cazorla and La Higuera have been selected.
Virus testing will also be carried out in municipalities in the Alto Andarax region in the province of Almería. In the province of Cádiz screenings will be carried out in Algodonales, as well as in the Huelva municipalities of Villalba del Alcor and Isla Cristina.

Coronavirus vaccines due to arrive in Spain from January 4, says health minister: Spanish Health Minister Salvador Illa announced on Monday that the first coronavirus vaccines could start arriving in Spain “from January 4 or 5,” once the European Medicines Agency (EMA) approves a vaccine candidate. The EMA is likely to approve the Covid-19 vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech by December 29 at the latest. This vaccine has already been approved for use in the United Kingdom, which began vaccinating priority groups last week.
Spain could start administering the vaccine early next month. Illa said that the “specific calendar” will depend on final approval by the EMA, which will meet in 15 days to analyze the Pfizer vaccine, and again on January 12 to do the same with Moderna’s. Strike forces closure of almost half of the ITV vehicle testing stations in Malaga province: Stoppages have been called by the UGT union for every Wednesday in December to protest the ‘deterioration’ of the vehicle technical inspection company Veiasa.
Four of the nine ITV vehicle testing stations in the province of Malaga have been closed this Wednesday during the second strike called by the UGT for every Wednesday in December.
Another four of the UK MOT-equivalent test centres were working at a reduced capacity as workers protest the blocking of collective agreement negotiations and restructuring of the workforce by the public company Veiasa.
The strikes resulted in the El Viso (Malaga city), Marbella, Mijas and Ronda sites fully closing.
Meanwhile the Algarrobo and Guadalhorce test centres were operating at 60 per cent of capacity, Antequera (50 per cent) and El Palo (30 per cent). Full article: http://www.surinenglish.com/local/202012/16/strike-forces-closure-almost-20201216190421.html

Ransomware Alert by DoctorLaptop: I don’t know if it is related to the problems Google has been having for the last 2 days, but tonight while using Chrome browser on Windows 10 to access Microsoft’s game site ZoneCasino.Vegasworld.com, I encountered a malware attack from the famous and very dangerous “CEBER” family of ransomware. This ransomware is well known for locking users out of their computers and demanding huge sums for the unlock key. If you fail to pay the ransom in 3 days it deletes all your data!
It has been a few years since I have seen an active ransomware attack here in Spain, although I do see pieces of incomplete, inactive ransomware occasionally on client’s computers, lying in wait for the other pieces it needs before initiating an attack. What I encountered was a strong one, arriving complete rather than in parts, downloading onto my laptop without permission as soon as I opened the games website, and immediately attacking on 3 levels simultaneously. Fortunately Windows Security caught the attack, eliminated the threats and alerted me it had removed the threats and suggested I do a full system scan to be sure all malware was gone. I don’t often praise Microsoft, but in this case their security program performed in impressive fashion.
In any case, if you encounter a similar ransomware alert from Windows Security, you probably don’t need to do anything, it will have been fixed by the time you get the alert, but do a Full Scan with Windows Security to be on the safe side. However, if the alert asks you if you want to remove the threat, do so.
Everyone using Windows 10 should confirm their ransomware protection is turned on- go to Settings>Update&Security>Windows Security>Virus&Threat Protection, then scroll down to Ransomware Protection, click on Manage Ransomware Protection, and there find Controlled Folder Access and be sure it is turned on (see pic).
This could be a dangerous trend if Microsoft’s own websites are getting hacked and spreading ransomware.
If you are a victim of ransomware it will lock your screen with a ransom message. Force the computer off using the Power button, and get it to me ASAP, within 24 hrs is best if I am to successfully recover the system, as I will be working against the clock, so to speak. The best protection, as always, is to keep your data backed up onto another device or the cloud.
