Recommendations & Requests

Spanish driving licences: Went to my gestor yesterday, complete with all the information needed to get a Spanish driving licence.
I don’t drive in Spain, but thought I’d get one before the dreaded Brexit!
However, he told me that the Trafico have sent out a directive, saying that they are not accepting anymore applications for the licences, even though officially, we have got until the 31st of this month
before anything happens. He had no further information other than this, because like the rest of us, no one knows what is going to happen. He didn’t know if there was going to be an extension.
You might like to include this information in the next issue as I’m sure not everyone is aware of this.

For the new official Covid restrictions, translated directly from the Junta de Andalucia site, see the news section in the Friday issue of DigameXtra, https://digamextra.com/2020/12/11/digamextra-no-1811-friday-dec-11th-2020/

What the BOJA says about the new hours of hospitality in Andalusia: {Translated from https://sevilla.abc.es} Updated: 12/18/2020 15: 36
The Junta de Andalucía has extended to ice cream parlors and chocolate shops the permit in force from this Friday, December 18, to cafeterias to be able to remain open in the range from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. , but without being able to dispense or allow the consumption of beverages alcoholics at that time.
This is established by a modification published in the Official Gazette of the Junta de Andalucía (BOJA) of the order of the Ministry of Health and Families Order of December 11 on temporary and exceptional measures for reasons of public health in Andalusia for the containment of Covid -19, during the pre-Christmas and Christmas period that has come into effect at 00.00 this Friday .
This order establishes that from this day on, “the establishments that carry out their activity according to the Economic Activities Tax epigraphs 672, 674.6 and 676, intended exclusively for cafeterias, chocolate and ice cream parlors , including similar establishments in cinemas and theaters, may remain open until half an hour before the time limit “in force until 10:30 pm, although” in these establishments the consumption and delivery of any type of alcoholic or spirits during the time slot between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm is strictly prohibited.
As stated by the Board in the order, this extension of hours is authorized “upon the request of the group of establishments called ‘cafeterias’ that the extension of the established hours has not included the possibility for these establishments to develop the main activity that is the object of the same, in other words, the service of those commonly known as ‘snacks’, which usually in accordance with our social habits are not given at the times currently established for catering and hotel establishments ».
The order of the Ministry of Health details that “the ‘snacks’ are associated with the service of confectionery, pastry, pastry and confectionery products, defined and regulated in Royal Decree 496/2010, of April 30, by which it is approved the quality standard for confectionery, pastry, pastry and confectionery products ”.
The opening of the cafeterias in that section from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. is a novelty with respect to the measures already announced for the second phase of the de-escalation plan designed by the Board that President Juanma Moreno announced last week, and that They have come into force at 0.00 hours this Friday, December 18.
Measures for Christmas
In addition, mobility between the provinces of the autonomous community, which was restricted to stop the expansion of the Covid-19 pandemic, is once again allowed in Andalusia from 0.00 hours this Friday, and until the next 10 January 2021 .
Similarly, from midnight on Friday, until 0.00 hours on January 10, the hours known as night curfew , by which the movement of people at night is limited, reduces by two hours its current extension and is set between 23:00 and 6:00 .
Also starting at 0.00 hours this Friday, the catering and hotel establishments will be able to remain open until 18.00 hours, as they have been up to now, and reopen from 20.00 hours to 22.30 hours . The novelty is that, in the period from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., cafeterias, ice cream parlors and chocolate shops will be able to remain open, although without dispensing alcoholic beverages.
In addition, as of midnight this Friday, the catering services will be able to carry out home delivery services until 11:30 p.m. the cut-off , although time for placing orders is set at 10:30 p.m. Source: https://sevilla.abc.es/andalucia/sevi-boja-nuevas-medidas-andalucia-permite-tambien-heladerias-y-chocolaterias-abrir-18-20-horas-202012181032_noticia.html

Spain’s coronavirus vaccine drive set to start on December 27: Spain will begin to administer the coronavirus vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech on December 27, said Health Minister Salvador Illa on Friday. Immunizations will start taking place across all regions, which will receive enough doses to start vaccinating the top priority groups. “The doses will reach all the regions on Saturday the 26th or Sunday the 27th, in coordination with Europe, which will distribute them on the 26th,” said Illa. “All regions will receive the amount allotted to them equitably so they can begin their vaccination process.” Full article: https://english.elpais.com/society/2020-12-18/spains-coronavirus-vaccine-drive-set-to-start-on-december-27.html

Belgian Minister Angers Manufacturers by Tweeting EU’s Covid Vaccine Price List: The price list revealed that the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine is the cheapest and Moderna is the most expensive, something most people knew. However, the details allow countries that may be negotiating with the vaccine manufacturers to take a harder line. Drug and vaccine prices have always been very closely guarded commercial secrets- but this is the list of what the EU is paying for the vaccines:
Oxford/AstraZeneca: €1.78 (£1.61).
Johnson & Johnson: $8.50 (£6.30).
Sanofi/GSK: €7.56.
Pfizer/BioNTech: €12.
CureVac: €10.
Moderna: $18.

‘Everything seems to indicate’ there will be no Easter processions in 2021, says Junta president: The President of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, has said that “everything seems to indicate” that there will be no Holy Week processions in Andalucía in 2021, as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. It would be the second year without the traditional Semana Santa celebrations that usually see huge religious processions involving a massive number of partcipants and spectactators. Update- Worldwide Computer Hack, Microsoft Says Its Systems Were Also Breached in the Massive SolarWinds Hack This Week: The massive state-sponsored espionage campaign that compromised software maker SolarWinds causing worldwide outages on Gmail, Google Services, social media sites, etc., also targeted Microsoft Central, as the unfolding investigation into the hacking spree reveals the incident may have been far more wider in scope, sophistication, and impact than previously thought.
News of Microsoft’s compromise was first reported by Reuters, which also said the company’s own products were then used to strike other victims by leveraging its cloud offerings, citing people familiar with the matter.
Characterizing the hack as “a moment of reckoning,” Microsoft president Brad Smith said it has notified over 40 customers located in Belgium, Canada, Israel, Mexico, Spain, the UAE, the UK, and the US that were singled out by the attackers. 44% of the victims are in the information technology sector, including software firms, IT services, and equipment providers. (So perhaps that explains the ransomware attack I had, as reported on earlier this week. -Ed)
