Torrox Costa Bakery Closures: On my way to the Monday morning market I noticed the German bakery next to Bar Amsterdam, Avenida America was closed and has a notice in the window, in German only. My reading of it is that due to the current situation they are either temporarily closed, or have restricted hours. The recently established Spanish bakery on the market street, run by some very nice younger folks, is now totally empty and the signage removed.

macOS Big Sur Is Bricking Some Older MacBook Pros: Now that macOS Big Sur has been released, we’re sure that some of you might be rushing out to upgrade to the latest version of macOS. However, before you do that, it should be noted that according to several user reports on the MacRumors forum, it appears that the latest update is bricking some older MacBook Pro models.
There have also been other reports sighted on Reddit and the Apple Support Communities. According to these reports, users are claiming that during the course of update to Big Sur, their laptops suddenly display a black screen and appears to be stuck that way. Users have tried resetting their laptops in a variety of ways, but apparently they are unable to and have not been able to bypass the black screen.
It is unclear if all MacBook Pros are affected by this, but so far a lot of the reports come from users who own the 2013 and mid-2014 13-inch MacBook Pro models, but this isn’t to say that newer models or the larger 15-inch or 16-inch models aren’t affected as well, just perhaps on a smaller scale. We obtained residencias in the early 2000s when the process was much simpler and neither of us worked or were of pension age. If someone has lived and worked here for some years and has not yet applied for residencia, then I’m not sure why any particular organisation should be looking at their ‘problem’

Contraindications to raising the minimum wage: The minimum wage in Spain has risen by about 30% in just two years and now reaches 950 euros per month. According to the IMF, the 8% rise approved by the PP Government in 2017 caused that “employees with a minimum wage, over 37 years old and with a seniority of at least nine months, but less than six years, had 17 percentage points more than probability of losing their jobs…” Full article: https://spainsnews.com/contraindications-to-raising-the-minimum-wage/

COVID-19 reveals how obesity harms the body in real time: In most recent news, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that 73% of nurses who have been hospitalized from COVID-19 had obesity. In addition, a recent study found that obesity could interfere with the effectiveness of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Initially physicians believed that having obesity increased only your risk of getting sicker from COVID-19, not your chance of being infected in the first place. Now, newer analysis shows that not only does obesity increase your risk of being sicker and dying from COVID-19; obesity increases your risk of getting infected in the first place. Golf News- Dustin Johnson’s record-breaking Masters score tops legendary Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth performances: Any time a golfer can break a record held by Tiger Woods, that’s about as good as it gets.
That’s what Dustin Johnson accomplished at the 2020 Masters. His 72-hole score of 268 (20-under par) is the lowest such score in the history of a tournament that’s been played 84 times. It broke a mark previously held by Tiger Woods (1997) and Jordan Spieth (2015). PHOTO: Getty Images. Big Tech News- Technology companies’ services could be banned in EU:  Technology companies’ services could be banned from the European market if they do not heed EU regulation, Europe’s industry chief Thierry Breton told German weekly Welt am Sonntag, as the European Commission finalizes rules on internet companies.
Breton will announce new draft rules known as the Digital Services Act and the Digital Markets Act together with European Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager on Dec. 2.
The rules will set out a list of do’s and don’ts for gatekeepers – online companies with market power – forcing them to share data with rivals and regulators and not to promote their services and products unfairly.
The new draft rules come as critics of U.S. tech giants, which include companies and industry bodies, question the EU’s rulings against Alphabet GOOGL.O unit Google, saying they have not curbed its allegedly anti-competitive behaviour. Some want EU enforcers to go further than just ordering companies to stop such practices.
The draft rules would allow the EU to ban companies or part of their services from the 27-country bloc as an extreme option. Until the draft rules are adopted EU antitrust and digital regulators do not currently have the power to impose such bans.
“Strict rules must be enforceable”, Breton told Welt am Sonntag.

DoctorLaptop’s Computer Repairs: Since computers have become central to most people’s lives when locked down, I highly recommend you keep your current computers properly maintained; if you have not had a proper maintenance service done in the past year, do it asap. If we get locked down again and you have computer problems you may not be able to deliver it to me for repairs. A proper servicing is the best way to avoid breakdowns. New computers, especially budget priced models by major manufacturers, are in short supply due to shipping disruptions. Those that are available are being sold at significant markups over 2019 prices. So keeping what you have in good condition would be wise.
-The basic guideline is if you use your computer 2 hours a day, get it serviced annually to maintain optimal performance, especially if you do online banking and shopping. If used 6 to 8 hours a day, then servicing every 6 months is advisable.
-If you are relying on a laptop, you need to know the life expectancy of recent laptops is only 4-5 yrs, pre-2015 laptops had a 5-7 yr expected lifespan. Keeping them maintained properly can extend that another few years. Installing a new Hard Drive and installing a fresh copy of Windows and adding more RAM all can bring great performance improvements in older models. Even Microsoft recommends reinstalling Windows after 5 years.
All work by appointment. Windows / Apple / Android / Linux
When asking for assistance please provide the make and model number of the device, and the version of operating system used.

Recommendations & Requests

New residencia cards for British people in Spain:
Some of us are unable to meet the requirements to obtain these cards. When the UK became a member of the EU some of us got on our bikes, travelled to Spain and became “entrepreneurs” of one kind or another. We took short-term contracts where available (like majority of young Spanish people) or nothing “legal” at all, like countless other people just trying to earn a living. Now we are left high and dry. Does anyone know of any organisations / groups looking at this issue? Particularly in relation to Brexit?
I would be interested to receive any relevant information.

Thanks: Hi Naythan, I just want to repeat what the earlier reader wrote thanking you for your unfailing dedication to keep the news forum in operation. I plan to be in Nerja in Dec, if easyjet is still flying. When/if life settles to normal, we will have lunch together.

Andalucía adds 41 deaths in 24 hours: {Translated from https://seville.abc.es}
Andalusia adds 41 deaths from coronavirus in 24 hours this Saturday, November 14, five less than the day before, according to data from the Ministry of Health and Families, which counts 4,195 positives confirmed by PCR and antigen tests, 288 less than this Friday and 798 less than Saturday last week.
The 41 deaths this day are the lowest figure since last Monday after registering 95 deaths last Tuesday, the highest daily figure of the entire pandemic; 62 last Wednesday; 68 last Thursday – third highest figure in 24 hours – and 46 on Friday.
This Saturday, Seville is the province with the highest number of deaths, with 13, followed by Granada with eight . Behind are Almería with five, Córdoba with four, Huelva, Jaén and Málaga with three each and Cádiz with two.
As for the cases diagnosed, the 4,195 positives are 288 less than those recorded the day before and 798 less than those registered seven days ago. Seville repeats for the third consecutive day as the province with the most daily cases with 1,092, followed by Granada with 833, Cádiz with 514, Malaga with 497, Almería with 340, Córdoba with 330, Huelva with 297 and Jaén with 292.
The president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, has asked this Saturday “great prudence” for this first weekend in which the new measures are in force such as the curfew at 10 pm and the closure of the activity not essential at 6:00 p.m. and has assured that “acting responsibly is good insurance for our health and that of our family.” Source, Spanish: https://sevilla.abc.es/andalucia/sevi-coronavirus-andalucia-andalucia-suma-este-sabado-41-muertes-coronavirus-24-horas-202011141359_noticia.html?ref=https:%2F%2Fsevilla.abc.es%2F

Two-euro test, Malaga’s solution to control Covid-19 in hotels and restaurants: {Translated from https://seville.abc.es}
The Malaga City Council is going to buy 30,000 antigen tests to promote a Covid-19-free environment in the service sector, mainly in hotels and restaurants. Customers will be able to undergo the test for a symbolic price of two euros , when the cost is usually around 50 or 60 euros.
The initiative is part of an agreement that the Consistory will sign this Friday with the Association of Hoteliers of Malaga (Mahos) and the Association of private clinics in the province. It is one of the lines of work of the project launched by the City Council so that the capital is consolidated as a safe destination against the coronavirus.
The tests will be purchased through the municipal company Promálaga and will be provided to privately owned clinics that join the agreement. They will be the ones who will make the infrastructure and personnel necessary to carry out the tests available, as reported this Friday by Málaga Hoy.
Although they will be voluntary, the aim is for hotel and restaurant customers to know whether or not they are infected before going to an establishment where they have made a reservation. To take the test, they must register and fill out a web form with a code provided by the beneficiary companies.
The client will not even pay anything since, according to the same sources, the regulatory bases establish that Promálaga undertakes to contribute to the program the maximum total amount of 60,000 euros, an amount that will be distributed among the medical services that adhere to the agreement in depending on the number of tests carried out and in proportion to the maximum quantities of tests and the amount stipulated ”.
Also the employees of the participating establishments can take the tests, which will give peace of mind to both the business and the customers. In addition, projecting the image of a Covid-19 free environment will help energize the sector, severely punished by the health crisis and the containment measures imposed by the health authorities. Austria orders three-week lockdown to rein in surging coronavirus cases: Austria on Saturday ordered a three-week lockdown in a last-ditch effort to bring surging coronavirus cases under control and relieve the stress on the health service in time for retailers to reopen in the run-up to Christmas. UK plans to ban sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2030: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson plans to announce next week a ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2030, five years earlier than previously planned, the Financial Times reported on Saturday.
Britain had originally planned to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel-powered cars from 2040, as part of efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and in February Johnson brought this forward to 2035.
Citing unidentified industry and government figures, the FT said Johnson now intended to move the date forward again to 2030 in a speech on environmental policy he is expected to give next week. Full article: https://www.reuters.com/article/idUSKBN27U0DG

Lost: I lost my watch, a Fitbit Charge 3, on Friday 13th November somewhere between Tizos at El Ingenio at about 2.15pm and the Hospital Comarcal in Velez Malaga where I noticed it missing at around 2.35 pm. I have enquired in El Ingenio, at Tizos and in the hospital with no success, but suspect it may have slipped from my wrist while walking between the car and one of these areas as the strap had come loose before. I was down on the coast for a hospital appointment and had gone to Tizos first for some lunch. I’ll not be able to return to the area any time soon because of the restriction of movement, so am hoping that someone has spotted it – it is very distinctive with an apple green silicone strap – and picked it up to hand in somewhere. If you have found it or know of someone who has found it, can you please contact me (Gwen) on 672770607 or by email: gjp1949 at Hotmail dot com. Many thanks. Competa area

Without a decrease in Covid infections in Andalusia there will be more restrictions: {Translated from https://seville.abc.es}
The curve of new coronavirus infections in Andalusia refuses to drop sharply. The 4,737 infections registered yesterday in the statistics of the Ministry of Health bring us closer to the figures at the end of October, before the application of the new measures to control the pandemic. With these perspectives, it will not even be possible to meet the most favorable forecasts that the Board is considering and that, according to the vice president of the Andalusian Government , Juan Marín, go through “maintaining” the restrictions in force “at least one week, ten or 15 days” more beyond November 23. “If the health data does not accompany, we will have to make other decisions,” he remarked.
Infections are increasing in all provinces – except Malaga, with only 15 cases less than those recorded on Wednesday. The situation worries in Seville (1,320 cases) and Granada, which, despite initiating mobility limitations in advance, continues around a thousand daily positives, yesterday there were 920.
In this province, the healthcare pressure is maximum with 845 admitted patients, of which 126 require intensive care. This number exceeds the 81 ICU beds that its hospitals have under normal conditions and exceeds half the total number of ICU beds foreseen in the contingency plans of the Ministry of Health.
The Malaga Clinic
But the tension is generalized in all Andalusian hospitals. As an example, the Clinic of Malaga, the province that now has the lowest incidence rate in Andalusia, has installed about twenty beds in the staff cafeteria, transferring this service to the general cafeteria of the center that will not serve the public «from exceptional, temporary and provisional way ”.
El Clínico was the worst hospital in Andalusia during the first wave of the coronavirus and is now preparing for the most complicated weeks of the second wave.
Despite this greater clinical pressure from the pandemic, the most striking data yesterday in the statistics was the decrease in the number of hospitalized, 3,429, which is 48 less than on Wednesday. However, 23 more beds were needed for critical patients in the ICU, which brought the number of patients admitted at this time to the Intensive Care units of Andalusian hospitals to 506. These variations in the statistics of hospitalized patients, with numerous discharges or intensive demand for ICU beds in the same day, is explained by the more rapid evolution of the symptoms of the disease in patients during this second wave of the pandemic. €6k fine for arriving in Spain without a PCR test: As of November 23, a negative PCR test will be required of all travellers coming from any of the 65 ‘at-risk’ countries.
Tourists and travellers arriving in Spain could face fines up to €6000 if they cannot produce a negative PCR test, according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Arancha González Laya. In addition to the monetary sanctions, they will be required to undergo a rapid coronavirus test to determine whether they are negative. Spain prepares support package to aid bars and restaurants hit by coronavirus crisis: According to sources, the measures under consideration include: subsidies and waivers on Social Security payments, increasing the soft loans available through the state-owned bank Instituto de Crédito Español (ICO), helping businesses renegotiate their rental contracts and opening completely new lines of funding for projects and specific needs. Another option is direct money transfers, which is what has been demanded by the industry’s main associations. “Funding lines alone will not be enough because businesses are already heavily in debt,” said José Luis Yzuel, the president of the Spanish Hostelry Association, which represents bars, restaurants and cafés in the country. Home delivery services allowed through curfew: The Junta de Andalucia has decided to introduce an exception to the time limitation that requires the closure of the hotel and restaurant establishments from 6.00pm to allow them to continue with their activity until 11.30pm, “Exclusively for home delivery service”, setting 10.30pm as the “deadline for placing orders”. Protests In Malaga Over New Bar And Restaurant Restrictions:
The march started out as a small group, but soon grew in size, getting a lot louder, with the crowd at one point stretching to the end of Calle Larios, and with some very prominent figures from the hospitality industry taking part, including Javier Frutos, who is the president of the local restaurateurs’ association Mahos, accompanied by Rafael Prado from Café Central, and José Cobos, joint owner of El Pimpi, along with owners of numerous chiringuitos, and also some representatives of local companies who supply the bar and restaurant industry.
Frutos stated, “They said that nobody would be left behind, but we have been. We feel unprotected and we have no help”.
A similar protest took place Thursday evening in Ronda as well.

Editor’s Note: Sorry, I am reluctant to post most new What’s On events. There have been many cancellations the last few days. There appears to be some confusion regarding the new Covid restrictions in the hospitality sector, and how they are being applied in each municipality. I’ve also heard of difficulty for musicians moving between municipalities (see post below). I had 3 cancellations today, just hours after they were submitted, all due to “new rule” enforcement.
If you are a venue, restaurant or band, and you are reasonably sure you have a show/event happening within a week, I will post those. But for now, with the spectre of stricter Covid regulations on the horizon (see second article in today’s News Section), I see no point in posting events more than a week in advance. We will know more about the Covid & Curfew situation by Nov 23. DigameXtra Sponsors may ignore this.

CANCELLED: Liquid Lunch gig at Chiringuito, Caleta de Velez-Malaga, Sat Nov 14th.
Due to the new movement restrictions. we have had to cancel this show. That’s twice this year, it could be said we are slightly miffed. Stay safe everyone.

Recommendations & Requests

Recommendation for Tony Roam: It is a red letter day when I collect my parcels from Tony. He runs a great service where parcels are delivered to his UK address, he brings them over and we collect from him. These come from many sources, family, specialist companies, Amazon Ebay etc. Of course our first priority is to support local businesses especially at this time but what we need is sometimes not available. Sadly also we have had incidents of lost postal parcels. Tony’s service is regular prompt and efficient and he’s always cheerful and pleasant. The small charge for this excellent service is well worth it. I’m sure his efficiency is a good indicator that if you take trouble over the small things then you will give great service over the big ones. Sandra, Nerja.

Recommendation needed: Reliable person to help in garden, ground clearance. Heavy weeding, strimming etc. Approx 10 hours work. All tools provided. Nerja area. Sandra

New device puts music in your head — no headphones required: That’s the possibility presented by “sound beaming,” a new futuristic audio technology from Noveto Systems, an Israeli company. On Friday it will debut a desktop device that beams sound directly to a listener without the need for headphones. The listening sensation is straight out of a sci-fi movie. The 3-D sound is so close it feels like it’s inside your ears while also in front, above and behind them.
The lack of headphones means it’s possible to hear other sounds in the room clearly.
The technology uses a 3-D sensing module and locates and tracks the ear position sending audio via ultrasonic waves to create sound pockets by the user’s ears. Sound can be heard in stereo or a spatial 3-D mode that creates 360 degree sound around the listener, the company said.
While the concept of sound beaming is not new, Noveto was the first to launch the technology and their SoundBeamer 1.0 desktop device will be the first branded consumer product.

Looking for a day out with a difference?: During these uncertain times we could all do with having as much tranquility in our life’s as possible, one place where you’re sure to find this in abundance is in El Canuelo. A protected nature reserve east of Nerja on the coast road. Fancy a hike? Take the main track down from the car park to the beach for rewards of breathtaking views of the coastline as far as Malaga, or opt for one of the nature trails where you are sure to catch a glimpse of the roaming wild goats. The two hour return hike from El Canuelo to Cantarrijan is sure to get your heart pumping. Even in winter snorkelers take to Canuelo’s calm bay to enjoy the plentiful marine life, the resident octopus being my favorite. You never have to worry about social distancing as at this time of year during the week it’s likely you’ll have the beach all to yourself.
For those who would rather just relax and enjoy the ambience of
this hidden gem, the restaurant El Parasio serves up delicious
traditional and european cuisines. The paella and avocado salad are particularly yummy, using fresh products from local farms. In the winter months the restaurant’s beach front location offers spectacular vistas of the sun setting on Mediterranean. As El Canuelo is a protected area you are not permitted to drive the 1km from the car park down to the beach, but the restaurant offers all it’s customers a complimentary taxi service to and from the restaurant. They also have kayaks and sun loungers available to rent. The restaurant is open everyday all year except in bad weather conditions. For reservations or to be collected from the car park, contact Juan or Himed on 722238094. This is the last beach in the district of Nerja, so under current restrictions it’s still permitted for people staying in the Nerja área to come visit .
I Hope El Canuelo can capture your heart in same way it did mine.

US Veterans Day 11/11/2020, a message from the Veterans Health Administration:

What’s really behind Madrid’s improved coronavirus figures?:
Experts warn that data being reported may not accurately represent the real situation, as changes in testing methods are affecting the numbers. Experts warn that this could be due to the introduction of antigen tests, which take less time to process than a PCR but are less sensitive to detecting the virus. Another problem is that the tests – five million of which were bought by the Madrid government – were used in mass testing campaigns, which is precisely the context in which they are not recommended. Scooter riders will need to carry a circulation certificate which proves that the vehicle meets the technical requirements put in place by the General Traffic Department. Full article: https://www.euroweeklynews.com/2020/11/11/electric-scooters-banned-from-pavements/

Spain reports first weekend fall in coronavirus cases, but sets new record for fatalities: According to the Health Ministry’s report, released Monday night, 52,386 new infections were detected since Friday – a figure that covers the weekend, given that no data is released on Saturdays and Sundays. The last time a fall was recorded over this period was October 5. The number of Covid-19 related deaths, however, broke a new record. Since Friday, 512 fatalities have been added to the official toll, the largest weekend figure of Spain’s second wave. EU Commission backs Spain’s protocol against disinformation campaigns by supporting Internet censorship: The European executive’s nod to the Spanish system to prevent, detect and respond to disinformation campaigns comes after some opposition parties in Spain had accused the government of creating a “Ministry of Truth” that would allegedly make decisions on content and provide media outlets with guidelines to follow. EU moves closer to encryption ban after Austria, France attacks: A draft resolution setting up an EU-wide ban on end-to-end encryption by web platforms and messenger apps such as Signal and WhatsApp is set to be waved through this week.
ProPrivacy’s Ray Walsh described the move as a massive threat to data privacy and a disappointing change given that the EU has previously been, by and large, in favour of privacy for European citizens.
“Robust encryption relies on the secure transmission of data between two parties using keys that are only known to them,” said Walsh. “Removing strong end-to-end encryption creates vulnerabilities that can be exploited not just by EU government agencies, but also by anybody – including hackers, cyber criminals and state-sanctioned operatives from foreign governments – with the technical ability to discover that purposefully created backdoor.” Full story: https://www.computerweekly.com/news/252491755/EU-moves-closer-to-encryption-ban-after-Austria-France-attacks

Curfew Could Have Been Longer? Ministry denied Junta earlier curfew: Andalucian Regional Government, Junta de Andalucia, had initially proposed a curfew earlier than 10pm, the Regional Councillor for Health and Families, Jesus Aguirre has said, but it was not authorised by the Ministry of Health. He confirmed that the Junta had proposed an earlier curfew, taking into account that from this Tuesday, November 10 at 6pm non-essential activity will close. The response from the central government was negative. The current situation gives regions freedom to lift or modify curfew, although any decision must be communicated to the Ministry of Health for approval, and it must be in place for at least seven days. WhatsApp shopping button allows you to purchase products from chat: The tool will make it easier for people to discover a business’ catalog so they know what goods or services it offers.
Previously, people had to click into the business’ profile to see if the business had a catalog. “Now, when a person sees the shopping button, which looks like a storefront icon, they will immediately know the business has a catalog so they can browse products and start a conversation about an item they see with just one tap,” the company said in a statement.
This will also make it easier for businesses to have their products discovered which can help increase sales.
The new shopping button is available now across the world and will replace the voice call button. To find the voice call button, simply tap on the call button to select either a voice or video call.
“In the future, we’ll make it possible to add items to a cart and check out, all within WhatsApp,” the company said last month. Full story: https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/apps/news/whatsapp-shopping-button-allows-you-to-purchase-products-from-chat/articleshow/79144847.cms

Fakebook scam that misleads you with a fake Xbox Series X giveaway: The scam in question has been spreading in Spain in recent days through ads shown to users of Facebook, as Avast has reported.
This fraudulent campaign promises to raffle 5,000 units of the Xbox Series X console among users who answer a survey of five questions related to video games. After completing the short questionnaire, a congratulatory message is displayed. It should be noted that everyone who completes the survey receives a message that they have been awarded regardless of the answers they have selected.
Then to collect the prize, scammers ask participant to share the promotion with five WhatsApp contacts. They can then select their prize, which is supposedly delivered within 24 hours.
Avast has recommended keeping an eye out for signs of scam and not relying on promotions that seem too good to be true, and has in fact warned that scammers themselves are already preparing for their next scam: the launch of the new PlayStation5 on November 19, with a similar campaign. Gibraltar Gov’t Press Release (09 Nov., 2020)- Certain foodstuffs will not be allowed from Gibraltar into Spain in no deal situation:
In the event of no agreement on the future relationship between Gibraltar and the European Union, it will no longer be possible to take certain types of foodstuffs across the border from Gibraltar to Spain. The Government has today issued a Technical Notice on the subject so that the public familiarise themselves with the possible new situation.
As from 1 January 2021, it may no longer be possible for individuals to introduce any quantity of meat, milk, pet-food, or fishery products into the European Union, therefore into Spain. This also includes personal consignments of specific animal products such as honey, live oysters, live mussels and snails unless their combined quantity does not exceed 2KG per person. The details of the new arrangements that would apply are set out in EU law and summarised by the Government in the latest guidance to citizens and businesses.
There are other types of foodstuffs that will be allowed across like bread, cakes, sweets, chocolates, pasta and noodles for example.
Gibraltar left the European Union in January, together with the United Kingdom, and we continue in a period of transition until the end of this year. When we arrive at that point, there will either be agreement on our future relationship with the European Union, including its nearest Member State Spain, or there will be no agreement. The Government want to make it clear that it is working hard to secure an agreement. However, there are important red lines that we will not cross.
Gibraltar’s departure from the European Union means that certain processes and procedures will inevitably become more difficult, cumbersome and bureaucratic. It is important that everyone is aware of this and that, where possible, they plan ahead. The Government can only prepare in areas that are within its control. Even then, there will be certain areas where mitigation is not possible because the new situation simply reflects what it means to be outside the European Union.

Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max review- The maximum experience:
The 2020 iPhones sport a shiny new design that is more akin to the latest iPad Pro and Air models. Or, if you’re harking back to yesteryear, the iPhone 4 from 2010.
That design change – which sees the buttons, speakers, and Lightning port stay in pretty much the same place as previous years – delivers a number of benefits. The main is that the 12 Pro Max packs in an even bigger screen than the iPhone 11 Pro Max from 2019 – it’s now 6.7-inches compared to 6.5-inches – in a footprint that is roughly the same. It’s an Apple Super Retina XDR display that’s HDR Dolby Vision ready and comes with True Tone technology for adapting the colours to your environment. It’s the same as found on the other models in the iPhone 12 range, just bigger. If you’re counting, the 12 Pro Max is actually a little thinner than its predecessor.
The screen bezel is still present – Apple hasn’t gone all Samsung quite yet – but because of the flat surgical-grade stainless steel band edge around the device, it appears thinner.
Such a large phone that it won’t be to everyone’s liking, but if you want big then this iPhone delivers without making the form-factor awkward to hold or use.
Full verdict-
For: Great cameras, 5G connectivity when you need it, Big and bold screen, Design is large but not awkward & A14 Bionic processing power
Against: Low-light photography enhancements could be better. Much the same experience as the cheaper (and smaller) iPhone 12 Pro. Full article: https://www.pocket-lint.com/phones/reviews/apple/154534-iphone-12-pro-max-review

London’s street performers face a crackdown: London’s street performers — the Brits call them “buskers” — are up in arms over a threat to their livelihoods. Their earnings have already taken a beating this year as the number of foreign visitors to the British capital has slumped by three-quarters. And now that the U.K. has entered a second pandemic lockdown, there will be fewer British visitors to the capital in the weeks ahead.
But the buskers are incensed for another reason. A local authority — Westminster City Council — is planning to curb street entertainment in the West End because, the council says, some of the buskers are noisy, anti-social, and in some cases, downright dangerous. The council is proposing to cut the number of sites where the buskers can perform, to impose a licensing and insurance system and to ban certain equipment that it regards as unsafe. Look Out! Here Comes Your Spanish Big Brother: Spain to monitor online fake news and give a ‘political response’ to disinformation campaigns. The government will be the arbiter of what constitutes such stories with no representatives from the media or journalist associations involved in the process.
That’s according to the “Procedure for Intervention against Disinformation,” (that even sounds scary, straight out of 1984, no? -Ed.) which was approved last month by the country’s National Security Council and was published on Thursday in the Official State Gazette (BOE).
The document makes provisions for the possibility of carrying out communication campaigns in order to counter fake news stories, albeit stopping short of censoring them. It leaves in the hands of the government the authority to decide what exactly constitutes misinformation. The protocol updates one that has been in place since March 2019, but that was not made public, and regulates an activity that began under the previous government. PHOTO:Twitter@gmoreaubooks. Andalusia advances the curfew at 10 p.m. and extends until 7 a.m.: {Translated from https://seville.abc.es} Updated 08/11/2020 17:33h
Andalusia will extend the curfew from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. , so it will last two hours longer than the current one.
This was announced by Moreno in an informative appearance after presiding in the Palacio de San Telmo the meeting of the Advisory Committee on High Impact Public Health Alerts to analyze the evolution of the pandemic in a day in which 3,755 positive cases and 20 deaths and the number of hospitalized has dropped for the second consecutive day to 3,151 while ICU admissions have risen to 455.
The Chairman of the Board has also communicated the decision to maintain the perimeter closure until November 23 of the community and continue with the schools and institutes open throughout Andalusia, while the university decides to implement the activity online except in the practices and experimentation.
The closure of all non-essential activity after 6 pm will be more demanding in the province of Granada, where the serious incidence of the pandemic forces the complete closure of all non-essential activity and Moreno has recommended that citizens «only leave for what strictly necesary”.
The previous decree maintained the limitation of night mobility with the “curfew” time between 11:00 pm and 6:00 am, already set in the state of alarm decree. Likewise, it was established that as of midnight, meetings in the public and private sphere were limited to a maximum of six people, except those groups that are living together.

Andalusia closes at six in the afternoon all non-essential activities from Tuesday, Granada all day: {Translated from https://seville.abc.es} Updated: 08/11/2020 19: 56h
Andalusia only has 30% of the hospital beds free, and in the eight days that go into the month of November, 315 people have died due to Covid, a serious and worrying situation that has led the President of the Board, Juanma Moreno, to announce very tough measures that will take effect at 12 o’clock tomorrow night, Monday and will apply until 23 November.
The main one is that all activities non-essential will have to close their doors at 6 in the afternoon, it is forbidden to leave the municipality of residence and the curfew is extended: no one may be on the streets between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. The perimeter closure of the Andalusian autonomous community is also maintained.
Classes in colleges and institutes will continue to be face-to-face , even in the afternoon shifts, but the university completely changes the scene. His classes will be only telematically although the practices and activities of the laboratories are maintained.
It is important to note that the Andalusian Government is studying what to do with the opposition to the Board called for next weekend. As explained by the president, they are looking for large enough spaces but, if they are not found, they would be postponed .
The situation is common for all of Andalusia except for Granada where the Junta has decreed the total closure of all non-essential activities. “The situation is especially delicate because it has a rate of 1,194 cases per hundred thousand inhabitants, higher than that registered by communities such as Navarra, Aragón or La Rioja, which are the ones in the worst conditions,” explained President Juanma Moreno who has made a special call to the people of Granada.
“I ask you to stay at home and only go out for what is strictly necessary because we have to cut this virus as quickly as possible.” In this sense, all social events are prohibited because there is “a serious danger from health stress that has never been experienced before.” Granada, together with Seville, are the provinces with the highest number of hospitalized.
The president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno , has decided and announced these new limitations after the meeting of the committee of experts convened this Sunday in the palace of San Telmo, in which the evolution of the data of the pandemic in the community. Andalusia is slightly above the Spanish average for infections .
Medical alert
From the General Directorate of Public Health and Pharmaceutical Management, a circular has been sent to the staff of Andalusian health centers in which it is urged to take extreme measures of social distancing, use of a mask and cleaning of hands, in addition to suppressing “any type of social encounter that derives from the professional and / or social activity even more within the managerial centers ». Doctors and nurses are recommended to have breakfast and lunch alone in the face of the “extreme situation” in which we find ourselves and which translates into a lethality very worrying of the pandemic. In November, 315 Andalusians died from coronavirus.

UK honors war dead in scaled-back Remembrance Sunday service: In a scaled-back service, Queen Elizabeth II led tributes Sunday to those from the U.K. and the Commonwealth who perished in wartime, as most veterans paid their respects at home as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
The public were unable to attend this year, with the event taking place during a second national lockdown in England, and were instead encouraged to take part in the two-minute silence at home.
In other years, the commemoration is packed with thousands of veterans and military personnel. In Sunday’s service, there were less than 30 veterans in attendance and everyone present observed social distancing rules though mask wearing wasn’t mandatory in the outdoor setting.
Though the service was very different, people up and down the land took time out to honor the war dead. Small services were permitted. PHOTO:Aaron Chown, Pool Photo via AP. The Lockdown Rumour Mill: There is a lot of talk going around on radio programs and Fakebook suggesting Andalucia is headed back to Home Confinement. Do not believe the rumours, only the National Gov’t can declare home confinement. That requires a vote, so we will have advance notice if such a vote is scheduled. There should be an official update later this week, or early next week when they must review/renew the curfew.

Online streaming giants face rise in tax to fund Spanish productions: Spain is preparing legislation that would impose a 5.0 percent tax on streaming giants like Netflix with the funds used to boost Spanish cinematic production, the government said on Friday. (Of course these companies will simply pass on the expense to their customers, so expect a rise in your IPTV bills next year. -Ed.)
Global giants such as Amazon, Google and Netflix often pay very little tax in nations where they are not physically present, presenting a major challenge for many countries.
Early last month, the Spanish government gave final approval to a 3.0 percent tax on revenues generated by digital giants such as Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon which will come into effect within three months. US Presidental Election 2020- The Press Declares Biden The Winner, But Will The Electoral College Agree? {by Naythan} Regardless of who you support for US President you’ll need to be patient. The media giants are prematurely claiming a Biden victory before a single Electoral College vote has been cast. This is the same mistake that occurred in the last US presidental election, when Hillary Clinton was declared by the media giants to be the winner based on the popular vote, which turned out to be incorrect as the Electoral College elected Trump. Four other presidents have won the Electoral College vote after losing the popular vote: Bush (2000), Harrison, Hayes and J.Q. Adams. Remember, in the American system’s Electoral College, 18 states still have not passed laws requiring Electoral College members to follow the popular vote! In any case, there are recounts, fraudulent voting software and still uncounted votes remaining to be sorted out. Votes may be disqualified in areas where there were more votes cast than registered voters. Postmark fraud has been alleged. Registered official voting observers, with court orders allowing them access in hand, were denied access to vote counting rooms and have filed in court to have those unmonitored ballots rejected or recounted. At least one court has declared mail-in votes uncounted by the end of Election Day be isolated for analysis. So many loose ends remain. Biden may well have won the popular vote, but that still is yet to be determined, and it certainly does not make him the President Elect. So when will we know the results of the Electoral College vote? On January 6, 2021 at the “Joint Session of Congress to Count Electoral Votes and Declare Election Results”.
