New Restaurant In Torrox Costa- Taberna Gurutze: Recommended
– This new restaurant/bar has opened at BLQ 89, in the location the Amsterdam Bar was previously. Just a few doors down from the Hong Kong II restaurant.
– The friendly staff is a mix of Euskara (Basque) and Romanian. They don’t speak much English, but seem to understand weak Castellano better than the locals.
– Upon entering, I scanned their bottled beer selection. To my amazement, in the center of all the typical beers, something special caught my eye, a bottle of Lagunitas IPA craft beer from Petaluma, California! At €3.50 it costs less here than at the brewery. I was offered a free tapa, and as usual for me, I requested “pescado” without looking at the tapa menu. This turned out to be 5 nicely deep-fried anchovies. Good beer and free tapas, a great start to the night.
– So, tho I wasn’t planning on eating out, I decided to look at the menu. More beef than pork on offer, plus a mix of typical dishes and northern spanish specialties. I was tempted by the 600gr T-bone at €23, but instead opted for the “beef rib” at €14, and asked for another IPA as I moved to a table on the terrace. To my surprise they brought another anchovy tapa when serving that second beer.
– I was soon presented with a platter, layered in a massive amount of food. The plate was half covered in a nice salad mix of baby multi-color lettuce and sweet tomatoes, tossed in a very light vinaigrette, and drizzled with sweet balsamic vinegar; the other side of the plate had 2 fried eggs. Covering all that was layer 2, a large pile of fries over the eggs, and atop the salad was 2 huge slices of grilled meat (beef ribs cut as a “beef chop” rather than the traditional ribs cut).
– The bread was 2 grilled buns, crunchy outside but soft and chewy inside. The olive oil they serve is the absolute lightest, mildest oil I have tasted in a very long time.
– The service was special by local standards. The waiter was attentive, checking with me several times during the meal, and the woman chef delivered my meal herself while the meat was still sizzling. No heat lamp delays here.
– With the check, I was presented with a double size shot of something similar to slivovitz or grappa, 50% I was told with a smile. I declined the refill, one was perfect. I left satisfied, with a full belly and a mild buzz.
– I highly recommend Taberna Gurutze. At a time when most of the paseo restaurants are rising prices and shrinking portions, this was a very pleasant find. Their FB page.

– The decision of the Court of First Instance and Preliminary Investigation number 3 of Velez-Malaga on 6 March to rule in favour of a housewife, obliging her ex-husband to pay her 200,000 euros for housework and childcare during their 25 years of marriage, has taken Spanish society by surprise.
Not so much because of the ruling, which is not the first of its kind in Spain, but because of the large amount of money that the former spouse will have to pay. The judge calculated the compensation at 204,624.86 euros, applying the Minimum Interprofessional Wage that prevailed in each of the twenty-five years that the marriage lasted, which ended in 2020. In addition, he must pay two compensatory pensions for their two daughters born during the union.
– The legal basis that has surrounded the whole process is article 1.438 of the Civil Code, which speaks of the support of the burdens of marriage. “The spouses shall contribute to the support of the burdens of marriage. – Since his highly publicized and controversial breakup with the mother of his children, Elin Nordegren, Woods has been bouncing around the dating circuit. While the Vonn breakup appeared to largely be amicable, the same cannot be said about the breakup with Herman.
– Herman is taking Woods to court over a non-disclosure agreement that she wants annulled. She filed the papers last week. Herman has cited the Speak Out Act — which allows NDA’s to be voided if there is a case of sexual assault — to null the NDA she had signed with Woods when they began dating. – According to the Post, this entire ordeal has gotten very nasty, very quickly. Goldfish: I wonder if anyone can help me, please. I have a pond with goldfish in and went on holiday to Australia for three months, during which time the pond got polluted and all but one of the fish died. I have tried to find a pet shop around the Velez Malaga area but cannot find one that sells fish, the only place I could find was in the Carrefour complex in Rincon, but unfortunately the choice is very limited and the stock poor. Does anybody know where I could get any?

Bob Dylan returns to Spain, during these 12 dates promoters warn no phones will be allowed during concerts:
– Dylan will be performing this year in Madrid, Seville, Granada, Alicante, Huesca, San Sebastián, Logroño and Barcelona. The Tronillos of Holy Week will once again parade through the streets of Nerja: {Translation}

Spain’s Imserso subsidized holidays for pensioners scheme to feature more destinations and high-speed trains as well as coach travel:
– The Institute for the Elderly and Social Services (Imserso) will increase the number of places available by 70,000 to reach 900,000. And for the 2023-24 season it will be possible to travel to all provinces in Spain, from the 18 currently available to 52. Self Propelled Camping Trailers To Allow Greater Range With Electric Vehicles:
– Lightship promises that its L1 trailer will be three times more aerodynamic than a traditional travel trailer and capable of offsetting its weight using an all-electric propulsion system based around an 80-kWh battery.
– Lightship aims to keep range/efficiency loss near zero so that a 300-mile electric vehicle maintains its full 300 miles of range with the L1 in tow and a gas truck that gets 25 mpg (9.4 L/100km) without a trailer also gets 25 mpg with an L1 riding on the hitch. Or at least somewhere close.
– Plans call for the L1’s EV-size battery system to power both the motor drive and all onboard appliances and equipment, eliminating the need for gasoline, diesel or propane and ensuring silent, zero-emissions operation at camp. Carnival 2023 Rincón de la Victoria: Sat, 11 March
Auditorio Municipal & Jardines de Huerta Julián.
The morning will start at 12:00 noon in the gardens of Huerta Julián where there will be inflatables, workshops and family games. There will also be an exhibition of the Municipal School of Fit Kid and cheerleaders, Gym Victory by M. Carmen Nieto. As a gastronomic attraction there will be tastings of the traditional carnival cabbage with a bar throughout the day.
Live performances by a selection of the best carnival groups: the murga Los del Súper, the comparsa Los Maomas sin H (1st prize in the COAC Málaga 2023), and the chirigota de El Selu from 16:00. (I have no idea why Spanish publications insist on showing photos of the “poster presentation” ceremony without including a clear copy of the poster that is actually readable. Drives me mad. -Ed.)

Spanish PM Sanchez announces planned gender-parity law:

EU Citizens Will Have to Apply for a Travel Authorisation to Enter UK by the End of 2024:
– Nationals of the European Union Member States will have to apply for an online travel authorisation in order to be able to travel to the United Kingdom by the end of 2024. Exempt will be only Irish passport holders.
– Since the divorce from the EU that started in 2016 and was finalised in 2020, the government of the UK has continuously looked into ways of strengthening its borders, and security, and one of the ways through which it wants to do that, is the introduction of the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
– The ETA has been introduced through the Nationality and Borders Bill for those passengers who are visiting the UK, as well as those transiting through the country who do not currently need a visa for short stays. Craft Markets: I have been painting wooden boxes since 2021 and am looking for somewhere to display and sell them. I was going to have a table at the El Zoco market in Nerja, but this closed down the day before. My big problem is I have no transport of my own and so could not get to, for example, the market at Vinuela.
Are there any other “crafters” in a similar position? Perhaps we could get together and work something out. I do not want to resort to selling them individually if I can help it, because this would be too much hassle. If three or four of us could agree maybe we could share a space and set up a small market close to home, or perhaps some kind soul could provide the wheels!
