Goldfish: I wonder if anyone can help me, please. I have a pond with goldfish in and went on holiday to Australia for three months, during which time the pond got polluted and all but one of the fish died. I have tried to find a pet shop around the Velez Malaga area but cannot find one that sells fish, the only place I could find was in the Carrefour complex in Rincon, but unfortunately the choice is very limited and the stock poor. Does anybody know where I could get any?
Thanking you in anticipation.
Alan, Puente Don Manuel
Tel – 696030426 (on WhatsApp)
(My understanding is that the new animal welfare laws have made selling fish in petshops illegal. You may have to contact an industrial supplier, free of those restrictions. -Ed.)

SPAIN

Massive demonstration in Madrid against the “culture of death” of laws such as abortion and euthanasia: {Translation, summary}
– Promoted by the ‘Sí a la vida’ Platform, supported by 500 associations and entities, the march started at 12:00 noon from Serrano Street and traveled to Colón, with the participants (23,000 according to the Government Delegation, 50,000 according to the organizers), many young people, carrying green balloons and Spanish flags.
– Those present carried placards, many with drawings of foetuses or photos of babies, on which slogans could be read such as “yes, I am a person and I have the right to life”, “is this the heartbeat you want to hide?”, “abortion and euthanasia, partitocratic genocide”, “every life matters” or “abortion = terrorism”, amid shouts of “yes to life and no to abortion”. At the event, which concluded with the release of green balloons with the unison cry of “yes to life”, a manifesto was also read out. Specifically, the pro-life associations that make up the platform call for “not giving up” to defend life “from its beginning to its natural end”, and to raise their voices “for those who do not have it”. In this way, they value “life, the family and motherhood”.
– The celebration of the International Day of Life will be on 25 March, as was established in 2003, during the first International Pro-Life Congress. Bob Dylan returns to Spain, during these 12 dates promoters warn no phones will be allowed during concerts:
– Dylan will be performing this year in Madrid, Seville, Granada, Alicante, Huesca, San Sebastián, Logroño and Barcelona. In southern Spain, he will perform at Fibes in Sevilla on 10 and 11 June, which will be followed two days later, on June 14 with a concert at the Teatro Generalife in Granada. Dylan will then perform in Alicante at the Plaza de Toros on June 15 and in Huesca on June 17 at the Plaza de Toros.
– Tickets for all shows will be available on 15 March from 10:00 a.m. at bobdylan.com and riffmusic.com. The promoters warn that phones will not be allowed in the auditorium at the concerts, so a specialised company will provide spectators with cases so that the devices remain closed and secure throughout the evening. (It is not clear how this will be done. At American concerts 2 methods have been employed. Either attendees had to place their phones in storage cases stored in lockers during the concert, given a claim check, and retreived them when exiting; or, locking pouches (like small, locking bank deposit bags) were issued to attendees when presenting their tickets for entry, allowing attendees to keep their phones in the locked cases, but preventing access to them. The pouches can only be locked/unlocked by concert security. When leaving the concert, the pouches were unlocked, the phones returned to owners and the pouches collected by security. -Ed.) Embassy continues to reassure Britons in Spain waiting for driving licence resolution: The message said, “In our last update on 22nd February, we said that Spain had assured us that our deal would go before Consejo de Ministros [Cabinet] in ‘the next few weeks.’ This continues to be our understanding and to be the message we’re receiving from Spain, which means that it will be very soon.” Many British residents whose right to use a UK licence expired, and who do not hold a Spanish one, have been waiting for the arrangement to swap licences. MALAGA

Only 13 per cent of the 14,460 Ukrainian refugees in Malaga have found work:
– The Ukrainian refugees who have relocated to Malaga province following the Russian invasion of their country are experiencing great difficulties in finding work once they arrive. This is confirmed in data provided on Thursday by the government delegate in Andalucía, Pedro Fernández, and his counterpart for Malaga province, Javier Salas.
– The province received 14,460 Ukrainian refugees which equates to 60 per cent of the total intake for Andalucía of 24,103, Fernández said. Of these 14,460 people, a total of 1,106 are registered for employment with the social security department which is high compared to the other provinces in the region. However, the language barrier and doubts about the reciprocity of some qualifications are the main reasons for difficulties in getting a job. The vast majority of those who have fled Ukraine are women, who have arrived with their children. Fernández said that the service sector is the one that is offering the greatest employability to this group.

Dutch & Belgian farmers hold massive protests:
– Thousands of farmers and anti-establishment demonstrators protested in The Hague against government plans to cut nitrate emissions. At the same time, climate activists blocked a main road elsewhere in the city. The protests took place ahead of the March 15 provincial elections, which will indirectly select members of the national parliament’s upper house and could have an effect on proposals for reducing nitrate pollution. The protesters carried banners reading “No farmers, no food,” and, “There is no nitrogen ‘problem'” during the peaceful demonstration organized by the Farmers’ Defence Force group.
– This follows similar protests in Belgium last week. Hundreds of tractors (pic) driven by angry farmers protesting a plan to cut nitrate levels converged on Brussels on Friday (3/3), creating major traffic disruption in Belgium’s capital city. The BB farmers union and several others combined efforts to gather more than 2,700 farm vehicles, according to Brussels police. Several major roads in Brussels were closed and police warned that disruptions could last until the end of the day, recommending that people use public transportation instead of personal cars. ENERGY CRISIS

The fuel shortage and sky high petrol price scam- Oil giant Saudi Aramco makes a historic $262 billion profit in 2022: Oil giant Saudi Aramco has reported earning US$161 billion last year, claiming the highest-ever recorded annual profit by a publicly listed company and drawing immediate criticism from activists. The monster profit by the firm, known formally as the Saudi Arabian Oil Co, came off the back of energy prices rising after Russia launched its war on Ukraine in February 2022, with sanctions limiting the sale of Moscow’s oil and natural gas in Western markets. (So Aramco clearly exploited the situation to raise prices to unnecessarily high levels to generate these obscene profits. Why are our representatives not questioning this? Aramco must be making campaign donations to the right politicians get away with this rape of the world’s economy. -Ed.) Morocco opens a new front in its struggle with Algeria claiming the so-called ‘Eastern Sahara’, complicating Spain’s energy agreements with Algeria: {Translation, summary}
– Some statements about the Moroccanness of the Algerian southwest ceded by France unleashed a new controversy between the two countries.
– Morocco has recovered an old claim in its particular confrontation with neighboring Algeria, by bringing back to the fore the Moroccanness of the areas of southwest Algeria, including Tindouf, which were ceded at the time by France to Algiers and which Rabat maintains historically they were Moroccan. In Algeria they have already denounced the expansionist desires of the Alaouite kingdom.
– The issue came back to the fore at the end of February, after the director of the Moroccan Royal Archives, Bahija Simou, assured that “there are not only historical documents that testify to Morocco’s sovereignty over what is called ‘Western Sahara’ but also for ‘Eastern Sahara'” and said that they were available to the researchers for consultation. She specified, it is not only correspondence but also maps and treaties and agreements “from medieval times to the present day.”
– Her words caused a stir in Algeria, where it was assumed that the historian could not have claimed Eastern Sahara as Moroccan if she did not have the green light of the Majzen, as the entourage of King Mohamed VI is usually called.
– Spain’s Sanchez gov’t, breaking with previous administration’s policies, has recently supported these Morrocan claims, angering Algeria, who then cut gas supplies to Spain in response.
