Spain detects cases of new highly contagious XE Covid variant:
Just as Spain drops its indoor mask-wearing rules, Spanish health authorities have warned that a new highly contagious but largely unstudied Covid variant has been detected in the country.
XE is a new super contagious Covid variant, which is a combined version of Omicron and the so-called ‘Stealth’ or ‘Silent’ Omicron subvariant, as the latter often can’t be detected via Covid-19 tests.
Despite the fact that its presence in Spain is low, Spain’s Ministry of Health warns that according to the latest reports from the United Kingdom, Covid XE has grown in recent weeks at a rate higher than that of ‘Stealth Omicron’ or BA.2. ANDALUCIA

Schools wait for instructions from the Junta before lifting the coronavirus face mask rule: Experts at the regional Ministry of Health are studying the new decree and will then advise the Education authorities on the best way forward in Andalucía. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/malaga/malaga-schools-waiting-20220420122651-nt.html

Where do Covid face masks still have to be worn in Andalucía from today?: It is important to remember that there are exceptions to the lifting of the mask rule. They must still be worn in medical settings such as health centres, hospitals, pharmacies and blood transfusion centres, although hospital patients do not have to wear them in their room.
-Masks also have to be worn by people who work in or visit care homes, although they are not compulsory for the residents themselves .
-Passengers on planes, trains, buses and any other type of public transport still have to wear a mask, but not in stations or on platforms. On ships, masks have to be worn if it is not possible to maintain 1.5 metres social distance. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/andalucia/where-masks-still-20220420095312-nt.html

The best naturist beaches in Malaga, Almería & Granada: {Translation}
-Malaga. Costa Natura in Arroyo Vaquero (Estepona). This is the first tourist complex specialised in nudism. It was founded 40 years ago and has all the services and facilities. It has showers and the possibility of renting sunbeds and parasols.
Also popular is the camping Almanat on the naturist beach of Almayate. Here it is possible to rent your bungalow or caravan space and get in touch with nature by practising nudism.
For a wilder beach you can visit Artola beach next to the marina of Cabopino in Marbella. It is a protected area, called Dunas de Artola, which has been declared a natural monument due to the richness of its dunes. It is 1,200 metres long and 30 metres wide and is made up of golden sand.
-Almería. The natural environment of Cabo de Gata-Nijar invites naturists to enjoy this paradisiacal place to commune with nature and the environment. Beaches such as Monsul or Los Muertos have always been naturist locations. However, the popularity of these enclaves has overcrowded the area where nudists and non-nudists coexist, especially in the summer season. In places such as El Barrancal and Genoveses, also in this natural environment of Almeria, there is room for nudism.
-Granada. Cantariján beach is one of the best known naturist beaches in the whole of Andalusia. Although nowadays there is a mixture of visitors wearing swimming costumes and people who have decided to do without any clothing, the nudist custom of this place on the Costa Tropical dates back to the 70s. The naturist beaches of El Muerto and La Joya are also located on the coast of Granada. Andalucía is drawing up a new decree to regulate tourist accommodation in the region: The vice-president of the Junta, Juan Marín, who is also the regional Minister for Tourism, explained that the new regulation is in response to growing demand from residents’ associations and consumers. SEVILLE

The Hacienda Miraflores Park hosts flamenco shows and fashion shows within the cycle ‘And Seville’: {Translation}
-This Thursday and Friday, the Hacienda Parque de Miraflores will host the flamenco cycle called ‘Y Sevilla’, organised by the Northern District with the aim of contributing to the cultural reactivation of the city and bringing culture to the neighbourhoods through a discipline “as deep-rooted and unique as flamenco”.
-Barrionuevo took part in the presentation of the event together with Francisco Valderrama, from Escuela de Moda de Sevilla, and the artists taking part in the event. On Thursday, the dancer Lalo Tejada will present the show ‘Esencia Flamenca’, by the Escuela de Moda de Sevilla.
-In this way, flamenco is combined with the presentation of the work and the fashion show of this entity, which has its headquarters in the Arte Sacro Business Park. Tejada has won a Giraldillo de la Bienal de Flamenco and has worked with Antonio Gades, Antonio Canales and Salvador Távora, among others.
-On Friday it will be the turn of the Gabriel Aragú Company and its show ‘Cuando todo empuja’, a 60-minute choreography designed for the performer that aims to reflect on the decisions and destiny of the human being and which has been a success with critics and audiences in the performances that have taken place on other stages, as is the case of the Teatro La Fundición.
-These performances are part of a wider programme that also aims to take advantage of the district’s unique enclaves, such as the Hacienda de Miraflores or the Convento de San Jerónimo for the general public, with the development of cultural activities that make up a first class offer. Tickets are free and can be collected at the headquarters of the North District, in Calle Estrella Porción, from 9.00 to 14.00 and from 17.30 to 19.30 hours.

UK court formally issues order to extradite WikiLeaks founder Assange to US: A UK court on Wednesday issued a formal order to extradite WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to the United States to face trial over the publication of secret files relating to the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
-The decision now rests with interior minister Priti Patel, although Assange may still appeal within 14 days of any decision to approve the extradition.
-The ruling Wednesday by a magistrate in central London brings the long-running legal saga in the UK courts closer to a conclusion. But Assange’s lawyers have until May 18 to make representations to Patel and could potentially launch further appeals on other points in the case. SPACE

Rare phenomenon- Four planets will line up in the sky this month:
In early April, three planets: Venus, Mars, and Saturn, formed a trio in the southeast before sunrise. By mid-month, Jupiter joined this trio, including a quartet of planets- an alignment of four planets. This planetary alignment of Mars, Venus, Saturn, and Jupiter will appear in the predawn hours in the sky this month.
NASA revealed that the rare occurrence is that all of the planet’s orbits around the sun are lining up. Meanwhile, the space agency also stated that Venus’ orbit around the sun is 225 Earth days, while Saturn’s is 29 years.
The two brightest planets in the sky, Venus and Jupiter, are headed for their ultra-close conjunction on April 30th. Full article: https://www.techexplorist.com/rare-phenomenon-four-planets-line-up-sky-month/46546/ AND VIDEO LINK

Halting Erosion Using Vetiver Grass from Vetiver Spain:
Vetiver Grass is a fast growing non-invasive clumping grass that grows to 2 metres in height. It has a root system that grows to 3-4 metres deep and they are very strong.
The National Geographic Magazine has called them “Roots of Steel”.
Once Vetiver is established it is drought resistant.
We are located in Sayalonga and we can plant all year round but February and March are the best months to plant Vetiver. Vetiver loves the heat of a long summer to get established.
Decomposing Vetiver used as a mulch, improves soil quality, keeps the weeds down and the insects away as it is a natural insect repellent. It is in the same family as Lemon Grass, which we also carry.
Vetiver also is a nutritious and replenishable animal feed. Horses, cattle, and pigs love it.
We use Vetiver along driveways and sidewalks. It also makes a great and inexpensive Ornamental hedge.

-Andalusia has registered on Tuesday 19 April a total of 7,800 new cases of coronavirus since the 12th, of which 3,550 have occurred in people over 60, bringing the total number of infections in Andalusia since the start of the pandemic to 1,428,789.
-The region has had 54 deaths in the last week, as the Covid figures were not reported last Friday due to the celebration of Good Friday. This brings the overall death toll from the coronavirus in Andalusia to 13,409 people.
-In addition, there are currently 611 patients admitted for Covid-19 throughout Andalusia and 44 in an ICU, an increase of 127 people in Andalusian hospitals compared to last Tuesday, while intensive care units are up by seven.
-With regard to the current average incidence of infection in Andalusia in the last 14 days in people over 60 years of age, this stands, according to the IECA, at 305.7 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, with the highest in Almeria, where it reaches 470.8 points, and the lowest in Granada with 209.5.
-By provinces, Malaga continues to be the one with the highest number of positive cases this week with 1,614, followed by Seville with 1,413; Cordoba with 996; Almeria with 925; Cadiz with 915; Jaen with 687; Granada with 659; and Huelva with 591.
-Of the 54 deaths, 16 were in Malaga, 12 in Seville, seven in Cadiz and Cordoba, respectively, five in Almeria, three in Granada and Jaen and one in Huelva.
-On 28 March 2022, the new Covid-19 Surveillance and Control Strategy came into force after the acute phase of the pandemic. From that date onwards, the incidence indicators refer to the population aged 60 years and over, immunocompromised persons and pregnant women, while the data on hospitalisations and deaths refer to the general population. In fact, it will be below 10 euros /MWh for the three hours between 4 and 7pm. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/spain/cost-electricity-falls-20220419182826-nt.html

COSTA DEL SOL

The rain in March and April has filled two major reservoirs that supply Malaga city and the Costa del Sol: La Concepción reservoir in Marbella, which supplies the Costa del Sol, gained 317 litres per square metre between 1 March and 18 April, and is now so full that water is being transferred from there to the Axarquía. The reservoir is still at 94% of capacity.
-The Conde del Guadalhorce reservoir in Malaga, which together with those of Guadalhorce and Guadalteba supplies the city and the Guadalhorce Valley, is also practically full, at 96%. The total amount in these three reservoirs guarantees the supply in Malaga city for the next three years.
-La Viñuela, on the other hand, has only gained four cubic hectometres with the recent rainfall and holds only 16.8 per cent of its capacity, so it is still officially at a critical level. Restrictions are in force for agriculture and domestic use in some areas, to try to reserve supplies in the face of the dry summer ahead. TORROX

Torrox Marina and Golf Course Update: {Translation}
-The Torrox Golf Course is closer to becoming a reality after the acquisition of all the shares of the company Calaceite Developments S.L., a company that belonged to the Fuerte Hoteles group and which was declared bankrupt, with which Torrox Town Hall now owns 78.22% of Calaceite Golf S.L., established in 2005 for the design, construction, development and management of the project.
-The mayor of Torrox, Óscar Medina, president and managing director of the company in which the councillor Paula Moreno is also a director, considered the signing of the deed this Tuesday before the notary Juan Carlos Martín Romero as a “key piece for the future Golf Course”.
-Medina has insisted on his intention to reactivate also the Marina, since, as he has pointed out “these two projects, which will be a boost for the local economy, will revolutionize the municipality to make it a first class tourist destination on the Costa del Sol.
-The Torrox councillor stressed once again the need to provide the municipality with tourist infrastructures that complement all the attractions it already has. “Torrox has the charm of a white village, a rich gastronomy made with the best raw materials from our own fields and greenhouses to be enjoyed while enjoying the best sunsets on our coast, as well as having the best climate in Europe,” concluded Medina.
-For her part, Paula Moreno indicated that the Golf Course project has all the viability from a legal, urbanistic and environmental point of view, included in the General Urban Development Plan approved in 1992, and that it would affect 100 hectares of land, on the beachfront, where the construction of 3,157 homes is also planned. Turmeric can improve fuel cells, applications in sensors, supercapacitors and more:
-Turmeric, a spice found in most kitchens, has an extract that could lead to safer, more efficient fuel cells.
-Researchers at the Clemson Nanomaterials Institute (CNI) and their collaborators from the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning (SSSIHL) in India discovered a novel way to combine curcumin – the substance in turmeric – and gold nanoparticles to create an electrode that requires 100 times less energy to efficiently convert ethanol into electricity. While the research team must do more testing, the discovery brings replacing hydrogen as a fuel cell feedstock one step closer. Despite Claims To The Contrary by Big Tech, Blockchain (The Technology Behind BitCoin) Has Huge Security Flaws, Hacks & Thefts On The Rise: The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), along with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Treasury Department, warned of a new set of ongoing cyber attacks carried out by the Lazarus Group targeting blockchain companies.
-The disclosure comes less than a week after the Treasury Department attributed the cryptocurrency theft of Axie Infinity’s Ronin Network to the Lazarus Group, sanctioning the wallet address used to receive the stolen funds.
-“North Korean state-sponsored cyber actors use a full array of tactics and techniques to exploit computer networks of interest, acquire sensitive cryptocurrency-intellectual property, and gain financial assets,” the agencies said.
-“These actors will likely continue exploiting vulnerabilities of cryptocurrency technology firms, gaming companies, and exchanges to generate and launder funds to support the North Korean regime.” Full article: https://thehackernews.com/2022/04/fbi-us-treasury-and-cisa-warns-of-north.html

NEW MASK RULES- Tuesday, the Council of Ministers will vote to approve the end of the mandatory use of face masks indoors from Wednesday: {Translation, full article} 18/04/2022 11:38
-The Council of Ministers will approve this Tuesday a Royal Decree by which the use of face masks will cease to be compulsory in indoor spaces. The measure will come into effect the following day, Wednesday 20 April, after being published in the Official State Gazette (BOE).
-Although it is not yet officially known which specific places will continue to be obligatory, the latest report of the ‘Positioning of the Ponencia de Alertas, Planes de Preparación y Respuesta sobre el uso de mascarillas en espacios interiores’, to which Europa Press had access, states that it should be worn by workers and visitors to care centres and people admitted when they are in shared spaces outside their rooms or in social and health centres; and when travelling on public transport.
-“It will continue to be worn inside health care facilities, services and establishments. This includes pharmacies, hospitals, health centres and blood transfusion centres”, the Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, said this Sunday in an interview in ‘El País’.
-She also added that it should be compulsory in transport “by plane, rail, bus, metro and also in transport by boat, inland”. “There is no exception for public transport. It must be worn on all public transport”, she stressed.
-The report also advises against the use of masks by pupils in schools and recommends responsible use of masks by vulnerable people in any situation in which they have prolonged contact with people at a distance of less than 1.5 metres; and teachers with vulnerability factors.
-In the workplace, the presentation advised the use of the mask whenever work must be carried out at an interpersonal distance of less than 1.5 metres and the adequate ventilation of the space cannot be guaranteed; and in the family environment, gatherings of friends and private celebrations. Darias also confirmed this Sunday that it will be up to the occupational risk departments of the companies to decide in which spaces they must be used in an obligatory manner.
-In any case, and despite the fact that it will no longer be compulsory, its use will be recommended in enclosed public spaces where people pass through, such as shops (shopping centres, supermarkets and small businesses); enclosed spaces where people spend time without eating or drinking (cinemas, theatres, concert halls and museums) and in enclosed spaces where people spend time eating and drinking (bars, restaurants and nightlife venues).
-In an interview on ‘Antena 3’ on Monday, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, pointed out that, in fact, “many people” will continue to wear it because the pandemic “continues to spread” and many people continue to die around the world.
-In addition, the President of the Executive recalled that although the cumulative incidence of coronavirus infection is around 400 points, “a high rate compared to other variants”, it is “lower” than in other countries and the levels of hospitalisation and occupation of Intensive Care Units (ICU) is less than 4 percent. “All of this has allowed us to take the decision to move towards recommending the widespread use of facemasks indoors. Vaccination has been the turning point that has allowed us to make this decision,” he said. SPAIN

Some traffic police drive unmarked vans: If you drive on Spanish roads you may well have passed some of the DGT’s unmarked vans but the chances are you didn’t notice them because that’s the intention. Why? Because they want to remain anonymous to catch people who commit traffic offences more easily, especially since the new Traffic and Road Safety Law came into force last month.
-In addition to the Traffic Directorate-General’s usual equipment, which includes helicopters, drones, roadside surveillance and radar devices, there are 15 unmarked vans whose occupants focus on distractions while driving. For example, if they see you holding a mobile phone, even if you are not using it, you can expect a fine of 200 euros and the loss of six points from your driving licence. Fraud warning- DGT is being spoofed by e-mail with the excuse of an unpaid fine: {Translation}
-The Oficina de Seguridad del Internauta (OSI) has issued a warning about a fraudulent email campaign for the Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT) with the excuse of an unpaid fine. The message contains a link to a supposed notification that downloads malware onto the device to steal user data.
-The identified emails contain the following subject to provoke the user’s interest (see photo, click to enlarge): “Vehicle Blocking – Unpaid Fine”. (Bloqueo del Vehículo–Multa no pagada)
-The Guardia Civil also warns it is striking that the cybercriminals have managed to use a sender address with an email domain similar to the governmental one: gob.es.
-The Oficina del Internauta itself does not rule out the possibility that there are other emails with different subjects but with the same objective: “to incite the user to download a file under some pretext of interest, using social engineering techniques”.
-What to do if you have downloaded the malicious program?
These are the instructions provided by the Oficina de Seguridad del Internauta in case you have received this scam email:
“If you have downloaded and executed the malicious file, it is possible that your device has been infected. To protect your computer, you should scan it with an up-to-date antivirus.
-On the other hand, it also points out that if you have not launched the downloaded file, your device is probably not infected. All you need to do is delete the file from the download folder. It is also important to trash the mail you have received.
-Similarly, the agency reminds you that if you are in doubt about the legitimacy of an email or SMS, “do not click on any link and contact the company or service that supposedly sent you the email, always through their official customer service channels”.

MALAGA

Hoteliers in Malaga applaud the data of the Holy Week but warn of the collapse of the profitability: {Translation}
-The hotel sector in Malaga is satisfied with the occupancy rates recorded this Easter, although it warns that its profitability is in danger due to inflation.
-The vice-president of the Association of Hotel Businessmen of the Costa del Sol (Aehcos), Javier Hernández, pointed out on Monday that the average occupancy rate in the province’s hotel establishments was 75.8% throughout Easter Week and 80.6% between Holy Wednesday and Easter Monday, coinciding with the public holidays.
-The origin of the tourists has been equally distributed, as 50% have been nationals and the other 50% foreigners, mostly Europeans. “These are quite good occupancy figures, although they are 12 points lower than in 2019. We understand that this could be the start of a positive year, but the profitability of the hotel sector has fallen due to the rise in energy costs, raw materials and inflation of 10%,” Hernández stressed.
-All eyes are now on the summer and the outlook is positive in both the hotel sector and travel agencies, although taking into account that we are still in a pandemic, that the war between Russia and Ukraine continues and that prices are skyrocketing, prudence is being maintained. Repeating the figures of a year like 2019, which was historic, will be very difficult in the current situation, but coming close is already a triumph, especially when just a few months ago the sector was completely dead. The Spanish municipalities with nuclear power plants describe the 7th Radioactive Waste Plan as unrealistic: {Translation, full article}
-The Association of Municipalities in Nuclear Power Plant Areas (AMAC) has reiterated its rejection of the 7th Radioactive Waste Plan as, in its opinion, it does not provide any solution to the management of radioactive waste and has urged the Government to withdraw it as it is “totally unrealistic” and lacks a strategy.
-It is a “disgrace” that after so much time the Government is putting a draft Plan on public display that does not define a nuclear waste management policy, lamented the president of AMAC, Pedro Sánchez Yebra, who accuses the Government of not taking a decision that is its responsibility.
-In a statement, AMAC insisted that the draft of the radioactive waste plan, currently in the process of public information by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, does not include a procedure for the selection of sites for radioactive waste management facilities, nor does it guarantee the right to participation of the municipalities.
-Furthermore, it does not include a “defined and clear” procedure for decision-making on the extension of El Cabril, nor does it contemplate any system for mitigating the negative effects of hosting this disposal facility for hundreds of years for the municipality of Hornachuelos (Córdoba).
-In their opinion, the draft suggests that the Government is committed to storing this waste in seven decentralised temporary storage facilities at the power plant sites, instead of a single ATC, which shows the change in the Government’s political strategy, when months ago it announced new individualised storage facilities, dispersing nuclear waste throughout the country.
-This decision – AMAC continued – was taken “without consulting the affected municipalities and without a general agreement between the State and the municipalities for the management of radioactive waste”.
-The “only valid strategy”, which respects all the principles validated in international scenarios, is the construction of a Deep Geological Disposal Facility (DGS), they explained.
-Faced with this situation, the nuclear municipalities demand “a real and sincere dialogue with the State and all the parties involved that facilitates the correct management of spent fuel”, and that contemplates the mitigation of the negative effects of the facilities on the territories where they are located. HEALTH

Insurance Companies Still Paying Spanish Private Docs at 1990s Rates:
-In private healthcare, a war that is not very visible to patients is being waged. A hidden confrontation that has to do with the money that insurance companies pay to self-employed doctors who work for them. The doctors have organized themselves around the Professional Medical Union (Unipromel), a kind of private employer’s association created a year and a half ago, and accuse the insurers of sinking their rates and paying them “leonine” conditions for each consultation, test diagnosis or surgery that they perform and that is charged to the patient’s insurance card.
-Since 2009, medical associations have been prohibited from participating in these issues related to fees, and insurance companies continue to pay prices very similar to those of 30 years ago. In the last declaration of rates, they were still in pesetas. Full article: https://spainsnews.com/war-of-private-doctors-against-insurers-we-have-between-five-and-ten-euros-left-per-consultation/

See A Dazzling ‘Pink Moon’ Rise For Easter To Set-Up A ‘Blood Moon’ And An Eclipse Of The Sun: The first full Moon of spring 2022 in the northern hemisphere also marked the middle of Ramadan 2022, and occurred the night before Easter 2022—both lunar festivals, yet its celestial significance goes much deeper than that.
Best seen as dusk on Saturday, April 16, 2022, the “Pink Moon” was pictured around the world draped in muted orange and yellow light as it appeared on the eastern horizon. Photo:Ashraf Amra/Anadolu. FINANCE & HIGH TECH

Bitcoin & Blockchain News- A $620 million hack? Just another day in cryptocurrency:
-The FBI said on Thursday that the Lazarus Group, a prolific hacking team run by the North Korean government, is responsible for the March 2022 hack of a cryptocurrency platform called Ronin Network. The hackers stole $620 million in the cryptocurrency Ethereum. That’s an eye-catching number in almost any context. But in the Wild West environment of crypto, the Ronin hack is just one of eight megaheists in the past year in which hackers have stolen more than $100 million in cryptocurrency!
-In 2021, criminal hackers stole approximately $3.2 billion in cryptocurrency, six times more than they made off with in 2020, according to Chainalysis. That year included six hacks of at least $100 million stolen and dozens of smaller hacks involving tens of millions. Now 2022 is off to its own headline-grabbing start.
-Why does this keep happening? In the cryptocurrency industry, businesses are spun up quickly, security is often an afterthought, scams are prevalent, and investors often don’t truly analyze the risk across a wide range of novel investments.
(As long as there is a human component, there will be no perfect security in any technology. Criminals will always find a way to exploit the human element. Cryptocurrency, blockchain and “the cloud” all get hacked regularly. Herein lies the problem: these “decentralized” technologies, as they expand and grow, create ever more human interfaces to be exploited. -Ed.) MOONETTE – Organic Skincare for Mature Skin

We are a Torrox-based company specialising in the creation of formulae which help prevent premature skin ageing. We are committed to making effective products at affordable prices.
Your skin health matters to us. How you feed your skin is as important as how you feed your body. Why settle for anything less than natural and organic?
As our skin is the first layer of our defence against microbial infections, ultraviolet radiation and environmental contamination it plays a vital role in our health. As we grow older, however, our skin becomes thinner, wrinkled, and more sensitive; hence it requires the use of treatments containing specific ingredients to the care of treating mature skin.
Recognising this need we have created a range of formulae which help
-slow down ageing process by smoothing fine lines and wrinkles.
-improve facial complexion and eliminate blemishes.
At Moonette, we are passionate about health, beauty and plants. Your skin will benefit from the properties of botanic essential oils combined with a selection of nutrients for deep hydration, cell revitalization and antioxidant effect, all sourced from the finest natural ingredients with gorgeous fragrances.
Naturally, we care about our planet and feel the need to help reduce the sheer volumes of plastics waste that are generated daily around the globe. Presently, we are minimizing the usage of plastic materials in our production while seeking alternative forms of packaging. To help reduce pollution we are asking all local customers to recycle or reuse their Moonette skincare containers, and offering a small discount on future purchases to customers recycling containers.

Spanish fuel company offers discounts of up to 45 céntimos a litre to its most loyal customers: Cepsa has now gone a step further, so that many of its clients can fill their vehicles at prices which are similar to those of 2021. It is doing this by applying a further discount for holders of its loyalty cards, in addition to the government discount. These clients can save up to 45 céntimos a litre on fuel, which is around 25 per cent of the average price at Cepsa service stations in Spain. The price of the light falls 10.1%, to 198,47 euros/MWh: {Translation, first 5 paragraphs}
-Compared to just a year ago, the price of the ‘pool’ for this Friday will be a 191,05% higher than the 68,19 € /MWh April 15, 2021
-The average price of electricity in the wholesale market today falls 10.1% compared to last Thursday, standing below the level of 200 euros per megawatt hour (MWh) and thus accumulating its third consecutive day of declines.
-Specifically, the average pool price for today, Good Friday holiday, will be 198.47 euros/MWh, 22.29 euros cheaper than yesterday’s 220.76 euros/MWh.
-The maximum price of electricity today will be between 21.00 hours and 22.00 hours, with 237.29 euros/MWh, and the minimum, 151.11 euros/MWh, has been recorded between 15.00 and 16.00 hours.
-Pool prices have a direct impact on the regulated tariff – the so-called PVPC – to which almost 11 million households in the country are subscribed, and serve as a reference for the other 17 million that have contracted their supply on the free market. In fact, the National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC) has found that in 2021, as part of the upward spiral of energy prices, around 1.25 million people switched from the PVPC to a fixed-price free market tariff. GRANADA

Cúllar Vega will celebrate this Sunday its ‘explosive’ feast of the Resurrection: {Translation, summary}
-The residents of Cúllar Vega (Granada) will once again welcome the Resurrected Christ Child this Sunday, 17 April, in a very original way: amidst a huge cloud of gunpowder and smoke, caused by the thousands of firecrackers that the people of Cúllar Vega will throw as the image passes by.
-The procession known as the “Procession of the firecrackers” will break a new record this year after two years without taking place due to the pandemic, as the locals taking part in the festival have purchased more than 100,000 firecrackers, of a type called “Tro de Bac” (“thunder of impact”) which is manufactured expressly at the Pirotecnia Zarzoso in Altura (Castellón) for the procession in Cúllar Vega and for other festivals held in Valencia. Emergency Chrome Update: Google on Thursday released emergency patches to address two security issues in its Chrome web browser, one of which it says is being actively exploited in the wild. Twitter adopts ‘poison pill’ to fend off Elon Musk’s $43B takeover bid: Twitter’s board of directors on Friday unanimously adopted a shareholder rights plan to fend off Elon Musk’s unsolicited $43 billion bid to take the company private. The plan, which is valid for one year, will kick in if Musk or anyone else acquires 15% or more of Twitter’s outstanding common stock in a transaction not approved by the board.
Often referred to as a “poison pill,” a shareholder rights plan offers companies a way to discourage a hostile takeover by another company or activist investor. Once the activist investor reaches a certain level of stock ownership (in this case, 15%), other shareholders are welcome to purchase stock at a discounted price, thereby diluting the activist buyer’s stake.
The plan does not prevent Twitter’s board from accepting an acquisition proposal if it believes it’s in the best interests of Twitter and its shareholders. Full article: https://www.zdnet.com/article/twitter-adopts-poison-pill-to-fend-off-elon-musks-43b-takeover-bid/#ftag=RSSbaffb68

SPACE

Lyrids Meteor Shower Will Start Lighting Up The Skies From Tonight: The Lyrids are not considered a particularly spectacular meteor shower year on year, but they are consistent. From April 15 to 29, this meteor shower will streak across the sky, with its peak expected on April 22, according to the International Meteor Organization. They are called Lyrids as they appear to come from the direction of the Lyra constellation, whose brightest star Vega, is easy to spot.
-The three days around the peak are the best to actually observe this shower, although the full Moon happening tomorrow means that in a week, it will still be bright enough to make observations more difficult unless you stay up into the early hours. With good conditions, you should see about 18 meteors per hour visible across the sky. Photo:Podestaphotos. MALAGA

The dreaded shopping list in Malaga: almost everything is much more expensive: {Translation}
-Going to buy food or drink, to fill up with petrol, to buy clothes, shoes, furniture, cars…. Everything has skyrocketed in price and is, of course, hindering not only the quality of life of people with little purchasing power but also that of the middle classes, as we must not forget that the average salary in Malaga is barely 16,000 gross per year according to data from the Tax Agency.
-The National Institute of Statistics (INE) has published the CPI data for March this Wednesday, and it is something to shudder at. Anyone with money under their mattress is going to have to start taking it out just to buy food because everything is going through the roof. On a national scale, the year-on-year CPI is at 9.8% and in the specific case of Malaga it can be seen that, of the 41 groups analysed by the INE, the cost of products has risen in 33 sections over the last year.
-The main culprit for the sharp rise in inflation is fuel, electricity and gas. In Malaga, the annual increase was 88.1% and the monthly increase, between March and February 2022, was 22.4%. In the first quarter of the year the price variation was 20.1%. Needless to say, wages have not risen in the same proportion. In fact, many companies have not increased at all, citing the crisis caused by the pandemic or, now, the war between Russia and Ukraine and its economic consequences.
-It is difficult to find segments where there is a negative on the index. The price of food has risen by 7.9% in Malaga in the last year, non-alcoholic drinks by 6.7%, alcoholic drinks by 2.7%, tobacco by 2.4%, clothing by 2.4%, footwear by 4.6%, furniture by 10.5%, household appliances by 6.5%, car purchases by 5.1%, accommodation services by 17.7%, financial services by 10.6%…
-There has been a decrease in the year-on-year price of telephone and fax services, -3.2%, audiovisual or photographic equipment -2.1% and tourist packages 1%. In the rest of the few segments where inflation has fallen, the decrease is less than 1%.
*The response of the government, employers and trade unions*
-Inflation is skyrocketing and, logically, it is a cause for concern for everyone, including politicians and businessmen. The First Vice-President of the Government and Minister of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, Nadia Calviño, has considered this Wednesday that inflation has reached “unacceptable” levels and affirms that the Executive “is working intensely” on several fronts to reduce energy prices, the main cause of the rise. Calviño recalled the reduction of 20 cents per litre of fuel applied in Spain and that of taxes, charges and tolls in the electricity system, as well as the talks with the European Union to try to reduce electricity prices in wholesale markets.
-The president of the Andalusian regional government, Juanma Moreno, was in Malaga on Wednesday and accused the central government of “patching things up”. Moreno remarked that the Partido Popular believes that the best formula for dealing with rising prices is “lowering the tax burden” and called for a “fluid, direct and sincere” dialogue between the Executive, the PSOE and the PP. Moreno emphasised that there is “a very serious problem” due to inflation, which is close to double digits. “This means that our purchasing power has fallen by 10%”, he commented, and also “a progressive impoverishment of Andalusian and Spanish families”.
-The Andalusian Confederation of Employers (CEA) has called for a “national shock plan” to mitigate the effects of the inflationary escalation on business and family economies. The secretary general of the CEA, Luis Fernández-Palacios, said that the March CPI is “negative data, which confirms that inflationary pressures will continue in the coming months”, linked “to the international geopolitical situation”, specifically the war in Ukraine. The Andalusian trade unions have, for their part, called for “compensatory measures to help balance the considerable loss of purchasing power suffered by workers”. Source, Spanish:

Tennis News- Davidovich continues unstoppable towards quarters in the Montecarlo arena: The Spanish tennis player Alejandro Davidovich beat (6-4 and 6-1) the Belgian David Goffin in the round of 16 of the Masters 1,000 in Monte Carlo, thus continuing his extraordinary and positive relationship with the tournament in the Principality and advancing to the quarterfinals, where he will face the American Taylor Fritz, tenth seed.
The man from Malaga once again demonstrated his potential on Monegasque clay after achieving last Tuesday the most important victory of his career by eliminating world number one, Serbian Novak Djokovic, and in just over an hour and a half, this Thursday he beat Goffin, whom he left without options during the match. Elon Musk makes $43 billion offer to buy Twitter to build ‘arena for free speech’: Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk took aim at Twitter Inc with a $43 billion cash takeover offer on Thursday, with the Tesla CEO saying the social media company needs to be taken private to grow and become a platform for free speech.
“I think it’s very important for there to be an inclusive arena for free speech,” Musk said at a TED Talk in Vancouver when asked about why he made the bid. Musk already owns a 9.1% stake in the social media platform.
-Musk, a self-described “free speech absolutist,” has been critical of the social media platform and its policies, and recently ran a poll on Twitter asking users if they believed it adheres to the principle of free speech.
-After Twitter banned former President Donald Trump over concerns around incitement of violence following last year’s U.S. Capitol attack by his supporters, Musk tweeted: “A lot of people are going to be super unhappy with West Coast high tech as the de facto arbiter of free speech.”
-Musk reiterated that he wants to buy the social media platform as it has become the “de facto town square” and it remains imperative for there to be “an inclusive arena for free speech” in society. “I don’t care about the economics at all,” Musk responded when asked about making money on Twitter, adding that he wants to convert the platform to an open-source algorithm where users could review the code, instead of “having tweets sort of be mysteriously promoted and demoted with no insight.”

Covid Malaga- The province maintains 116 hospitalized and reported seven deaths this Tuesday: {Translation, summary} 12Apr22 15:03
-The Ministry of Health and Families notified this Tuesday, in accordance with the new surveillance strategy approved by the National Public Health Commission, the COVID-19 data for the last few days. Thus, as of today, the province of Malaga has 116 people hospitalised for coronavirus, which is 14 less than last Friday; seven of them (1 less) in Intensive Care Units (ICU).
-In addition, there have been seven deaths, bringing the total in more than two years of pandemic to 2,371. Since last Friday, according to the data provided, there have been 41 new hospitalised. SPAIN

Spain detects the first three cases of childhood hepatitis of unknown origin: Spain has detected three cases of acute hepatitis of unknown origin that affects boys and girls under 10 years of age. They come from Madrid, Aragón and Castilla-La Mancha, they are between two and seven years old, there is no relation to each other and they are all doing well, although one of them has required a transplant, as reported by the Ministry of Health of the Community of Madrid this Wednesday, in whose hospitals all minors are.
The diagnoses have occurred after two international health alerts decreed by the World Health Organization and the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) after detecting 74 cases in the United Kingdom -of which six have had to receive a liver transplant – and three others in Ireland. ANDALUCIA

More Twisted Statistics from the Junta- says tourism in Andalucía is almost back to normal levels with some ‘spectacular’ numbers: {SUR article, with Editor’s comment following}
-The regional tourism minister, Juan Marin, says hotel occupancy figures are currently around 78%, rising to 90% when the biggest Easter processions take place.
-This week numerous tourists can be seen in the main resorts of Malaga province, as the Junta de Andalucía’s vice-president and tourism minister, Juan Marin, confirmed on Monday, 11 April. In fact, he says the hotel occupancy figures are “spectacular,” rising from 76-78% mid-week to over 90% at the weekend. “Some places are fully booked for this weekend already,” he says. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/malaga/junta-says-tourism-20220412182746-nt.html

Editorial Comment On Previous Article & Spanish Politics Update:
-What Juan Marin fails to mention in the previous article is that these rates & numbers relate only to OPEN establishments. He is ignoring all the tourist businesses that have not re-opened. If you figure in all the empty rooms in closed businesses, the true overall hotel occupancy rates compared to pre-Covid numbers are not as encouraging.
-This type of behavior, along with the perceived mis-handlings of the EU Covid Recovery Funds, the energy crisis and the transportation strike, is precisely why several political parties have called for early elections to be held for Andalucia this summer. The motion to “dissolve the Andalucian Parliment”, as is required before a new election can take place, is imminent. Then they must wait 54 days before the new election. The polls are showing a strong swing to the Right/Far Right, as just happened to our neighbors in the Castilla y León region, where far Right VOX is now a partner in the newly elected Regional gov’t.
-What does the current leadership say about this? The secretary general of Andalusia, Juan Espadas, has stressed that Moreno Bonilla, president of the PP (Partido Popular Andaluz), “is deeply mistaken when he speaks of stability linked to the extreme right”, referring to the PP-Vox pact in Castilla y León, an agreement that seems to have “encouraged Moreno Bonilla” to advance elections in Andalusia in June, which is already “taken for granted”. (This paragraph translated from https://www.granadadigital.es/juan-espadas-asegura-juanma-moreno-equivoca-profundamente-estabilidad-extrema-derecha/)
-This is why I have been covering the rise of the Right & far Right VOX, and the Castilla y León election, in previous articles. The same thing could happen here in Andalucia, and then again in the next National elections that are due no later than 10 December, 2023. I have presented both sides here for a balanced picture, and seek no political feedback or discussions. However, this is big news in Spain. I just want English speaking people living here, who often get left out of conversations regarding Spanish politics, to be well informed about their current home. At the very least, you can impress your Spanish friends with your political insights!

Cutting off Russian gas to cost Germany €220bn, will trigger European recession: {The Telegraph}
-Cutting off Russian gas to the EU is likely to cost Germany €220bn in lost output and trigger a recession across the Continent, as experts warn about the bloc’s dependency on the Kremlin for energy.
-Think tanks advising the German government said its economy would take a 6.5pc hit from the loss of Russian gas, while Moody’s warned of energy rationing in countries reliant on Russia for supplies.
-Overall Europe gets about 40pc of its gas from Russia and about 25pc of its oil, meaning it is providing the Kremlin with a vital source of cash even as Vladimir Putin continues his attack on Ukraine.
-The EU has set out plans to end imports of Russian coal but has so far failed to reach agreement on a full energy embargo.
-Germany gets about one-third of its gas from Russia and its finance minister Christian Lindner warned earlier this month that a ban “would inflict more damage on ourselves than on them”.

765,000 Moderna vaccine doses withdrawn after mosquito found in sealed vial at Malaga vaccination centre: Some 764,900 doses of the Moderna vaccine have been withdrawn by Spain’s Ministry of Health after a ‘foreign body’ was found inside a sealed vial, it has been confirmed by the department. The coronavirus vaccine, identified with the lot number 000190A, was also distributed to Portugal, Poland, Sweden and Norway, countries that have already alerted their respective health systems of this incident. Kinder eggs salmonella alert expanded as some of the affected batches were distributed to shops in Spain: Following the withdrawal from sale of various Kinder products in the UK due to salmonellosis, the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition is warning that the health alert has been extended to Spain. It says certain batches of the affected Kinder products which have been made in Belgium have already been recalled, but some had already been distributed to other countries including Spain.

Far Right Gains Regional Power- The Outgoing Government regrets that “the first decision” of the Feijóo PP is to govern with the extreme right in Castilla y León:
-The Government has lamented this Tuesday that “the first decision” of the president of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, since he came to the leadership of the main opposition party, is to “embrace the proposals of the extreme right” and “allow their entry” in an autonomous government such as that of Castilla y León, one day after the investiture of the popular Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, who will govern in coalition with Vox.
“We are seeing how all the European forces are positioning themselves against these proposals from the extreme right. And in Spain, what the main opposition party does is embrace the proposals of the extreme right ”, he lamented. This is, in his opinion, “bad news” both for democracy and for the country as a whole, because “instead of establishing a democratic cordon” what the PP does is “open wide the doors” to the far right. Why bread in Spain doesn’t taste the same anymore: This new taste is down to the fact that Spain’s Ministry of Agriculture has established a maximum amount of salt content for bread, a rule which came into effect on April 1st 2022. The Ministry seeks to offer “healthier products and with the maximum guarantees” for consumers. Bread in Spain is now less salty and therefore a bit blander in taste, but at least it is healthier. (I have noticed the taste difference, as well as observing that fresh bread is now going stale faster, often in just a few hours! The native Spanish baker I asked about this said it was the result of two things, less salt, and less yeast- sometimes substituted in whole or part with baking powder to facilitate rising without using more expensive, temperature sensitive yeast. -Ed.) The best pictures from Holy Monday, Semana Santa 2022:
There were processions by the brotherhoods of Crucifixion, Passion, Gypsies, Dolores del Puente, Cautivo and Estudiantes. See photos here: https://www.surinenglish.com/malaga/malaga-city/best-pictures-from-20220412122040-ga.html#imagen1

“They have broken the spirit of Holy Week of Malaga, to which all had access”: {Translation, summary}
-The official route of Holy Week in Malaga and the points of free access to the common passers-by without a paid reservation for a chair on a platform continue to give rise to debate, which has moved from the social networks to the streets of the city centre. While waiting for the thrones of the brotherhoods in procession on Easter Monday, some citizens commented with their companions on the difficulty they had in seeing the processions.
-On Calle Molina Lario, next to the AC Hotel, the Benítez brothers are waiting behind a fence. They are from Madrid, but they travel every year to Malaga to enjoy its Holy Week. However, they warn that it will be the last if the difficulty to see the thrones in the Centre continues: “Those who pay are the privileged ones and those of us who don’t are waiting to see if we find a clearing like this one, which is one of the few there are, because the Alameda is full of grandstands”, complains Antonio. “The Agrupación de Cofradías de Málaga has set up these chiringuitos to make money, but it’s going to be counterproductive because people will stop coming and, if this happens, Semana Santa will sink”. Diego points to the nearest grandstand: “If you look at the seats, they’re almost all empty.” Juan also points out that the new official route “locks you in and you can’t move until it’s all over”. “Very bad”, he adds. Putin says peace talks with Ukraine are at dead end, goads the West: President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday peace talks with Ukraine had hit a dead end, using his first public comments on the conflict in more than a week to vow that his troops would win and to goad the West for failing to bring Moscow to heel. In the strongest signal to date that the war will grind on for longer, Putin said Kyiv had derailed peace talks by staging what he said were fake claims of Russian war crimes and by demanding security guarantees to cover the whole of Ukraine. Amsterdam Mayor to Move Ahead With Proposed Tourist Cannabis Cafe Ban: Authorities in the Netherlands may soon close Amsterdam’s cannabis cafes or coffee shops to tourists after Amsterdam’s mayor Femke Halsema has unfolded the plan to make such a move. According to Halsema, the move is the only option in order to get a grip on the local soft drugs market. Recent research has revealed that only 66 of the total of 166 licensed coffeeshops in Amsterdam are needed in order to meet the local demand. Banking in Spain for Seniors Update- Some banks withdraw use of Passbooks, etc.:
-New technologies are being implemented more and more in the banking sector, so their digitization means that you have to learn to operate through the new options.
-At the beginning of this month, the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) presented a report in which it denounced that banks continue to fail to comply with some of these agreements, such as the commitment to extend window service hours, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
-According to the OCU, among the main 18 banking entities that have a network of physical offices, five no longer issue passbooks: Abanca, Bankinter, BBVA, Caja Rural de Jaén and Laboral Kutxa. However, the organization also highlights that among the entities that do continue to operate with a passbook, Kutxabank has a commission of 3 euros per issue to its customers, Sabadell charges 10 euros for the same concept to people under 65 years of age, Ibercaja has a fixed commission of 2 euros for those under 70 years of age and, finally, BBVA has a maintenance commission of 10 euros, with the exception that the person has a contributory pension of at least 300 euros.
-For the OCU, seniors are a vulnerable group, so it should have greater protection, hence, OCU will promote banking to be considered a “basic and universal service” and that it guarantees face-to-face attention to the entire population, without economic discrimination for elderly who need to maintain face-to-face care.
Until this moment arrives, the OCU has advised people who are being affected to study the option of changing banks. Full article:

Bad news for those Spanish property owners who have a variable rate mortgage:
The 12-month Euribor marked a positive value in its daily rate this Tuesday for the first time since it entered negative territory in February 2016, given the expectation of an upcoming rise in interest rates by the European Central Bank (ECB), in a scenario marked by the war in Ukraine and the less transitory nature of inflation.
The minutes of the meeting recently revealed that several members of the Governing Council of the ECB advocated starting the path of raising interest rates during the summer months to curb the rise in prices. Analysts already expect the Euribor to end 2022 in positive values, which will make the installments of mortgage contracts linked to a variable rate more expensive. Space balloon company offers first look at luxury cabins:
– A new entrant in the space tourism market promises customers views of the Earth’s curvature from the comfort of a luxury cabin, lifted to the upper atmosphere with a giant balloon.
-The balloon reaches an altitude of 20 miles (30 kilometers), much lower than rivals Virgin Galactic, which goes just over 50 miles high, or Blue Origin, which breaches the Karman Line, 62 miles above sea level, the internationally-recognized space border. But 20 miles is still far higher than commercial planes, which ascend around six miles high.
-With five-feet (1.5 meter) high windows, deep seats, dark, purple tones and subdued lighting, the atmosphere contrasts with the white and sanitized capsules of its competitors. Wifi connectivity and a drinks bar round out the “Space Lounge” inside the company’s Neptune capsule.
-More than 600 tickets have so far been sold, at $125,000 each.
The price for the two-hour-up, two-hours-gliding, and two-hour-down voyage, which ends with an ocean splashdown, is significantly less than Virgin Galactic tickets that cost $450,000 for a ride on a spaceplane. ANDALUCIA

Junta and banks agree to provide training in financial services for senior citizens: {Translation}
-Andalusian senior citizens will receive training on basic financial operations, and personalised attention, thanks to the agreement reached on Monday between the Andalusian Regional Government and seven banks, as announced by the Regional Minister for Equality, Social Policies and Reconciliation, Rocío Ruiz.
-In statements to journalists, the Councillor assured that Andalusia is a “reference” in Spain with this framework agreement, which the Junta and the banks have been promoting for months to improve the care of the elderly and to solve an exclusion “which is a new form of discrimination”.
-Ruiz, who highlighted the digital divide suffered by the elderly when dealing with financial institutions, pointed out that the agreement is the result of “many meetings” in which the demands of the elderly have been listened to, which resulted in October in a “historic meeting” with the institutions and with the intermediation of the Bank of Spain.
-The banks involved in this agreement are Caja Rural del Sur, CajaSur, Caixabank, Banco de Santander, Banco de Sabadell, Unicaja and Ibercaja, which, according to the councillor, form part of a “very important” agreement because it includes very specific actions.
-The agreement includes the training of the elderly in financial operations to break the digital divide in all the Active Participation Centres, where there are currently some 360,000 people, together with those in public residences, who will be able to access them through the entities’ websites and mobile applications.
-The aim is for the elderly to be able to carry out basic operations, such as checking balances or withdrawing money, and to be able to do so in an “easy and simple” way, something for which the Junta will provide all the necessary computer equipment in the senior citizen centres.
-The agreement also provides for personalised attention to the elderly, so that the staff at the banks will have opening hours adapted to the profiles of the elderly to advise them.
-The banks also undertake to design accessible tools, such as ATMs, which will be easier for the elderly to use.
-The councillor pointed out that these types of measures form part of her department’s “commitment” to the elderly, something included in the Strategic Plan for the Elderly approved in 2020. A new squall threatens Almeria, Granada and Malaga with haze this week: {Translation}
-Desert dust returns to Andalusia this week, although with less intensity than in March. The forecasts of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) point to low levels of haze that will mainly reach the provinces of Almeria, Granada and Malaga.
-The Evelyn squall, which will cross the region from west to east, will bring occasional rainfall, which in the eastern area may be muddy due to southerly winds during Monday afternoon and Tuesday. According to the forecast models, the dust intrusion will be minimal and will not have the impact of the previous ones.
-Meteored indicate that the squall will move eastwards and during Monday the associated cold front will leave precipitation and a progressive drop in temperatures.
-It will also drag an air mass with a high dust content in suspension, coming from the Sahara. “The storms could be distributed in multicellular systems and even a line of turbulence with a north-south orientation and propagating eastwards from the interior of the peninsula,” they say.
-Evelyn will bring dust in suspension, according to Meteored, and although the southerly advection generated by this squall does not seem to have a long path through the Sahara desert, it could be enough to drag a large amount of dust.
-It will not be an event like those of March, when some concentrations of PM 10 particles reached record values in some regions, but it could be appreciable, with a decrease in visibility and the clarity of the sky as well as in precipitation, which could eventually leave some mud. Golf News- World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler makes history winning first career major: The No. 1 golfer in the world has won the No. 1 major in the sport. Scottie Scheffler dominated the final three rounds of the 2022 Masters en route to a green jacket, record $2.7 million payout and further enshrinement as the hottest golfer on the planet, carding a 10-under 278 to win his first career major on Sunday.
-Scheffler became the fifth golfer to enter Augusta National ranked No. 1 in the world and go on to win the Masters, joining Ian Woosnam (1991), Fred Couples (1992), Tiger Woods (2001-02) and Dustin Johnson (2020).
-The victory was his fourth on the PGA Tour this season, making him the first golfer since Arnold Palmer in 1960 — and only the second ever — to win as many events including the Masters in that span of time to begin a season, according to Justin Ray.

See John Lennon’s son sing ‘Imagine’ for the 1st time after vowing to never perform it: {DigameXtra} While this is a nice gesture, I clearly remember (as do my friends in NYC) Julian did sing this before in public. It was at a rally in NYC after 9/11. However, 21 years later, that now appears to be scrubbed from the Internet. In any case, here is the new release.  VIDEO LINK

AXARQUIA

Drought- La Axarquía: {Translation, summary}
-The rains of recent weeks have not been sufficient for the La Viñuela reservoir, which has barely added four cubic hectometres, the equivalent of a month’s supply. It currently has 27 cubic hectometres, which represents 16.36 percent of its capacity.
-In this way, and in the hope that during the spring there could be a new episode of rainfall, La Axarquía will face the summer with water resources at a minimum. A far cry from the 53 cubic hectometres at this time last year. Photo:MalagaToday. Source, Spanish: https://www.axarquiaplus.es/sequia-la-axarquia-hace-cuentas-para-terminar-el-verano-con-agua/

TORROX

Torrox demolishes an illegal dwelling in the countryside eleven years after the final judgement was handed down: {Translation}
-Torrox Town Hall has proceeded this week to demolish a house built illegally in the rural area of Santilla by a British couple who did not comply with the municipal licence granted in 2002. The action has been carried out after the Criminal Court number 8 of Malaga declared final in 2011 the sentence of demolition of the property for a crime against land management.
-In the ruling, to which Diario Sur has had access, it is considered proven that the owners bought in 2000 a rural plot of 1,451 square metres, on which there was “a house in ruins” of 21 square metres, on land classified as undevelopable land in the PGOU, so that the minimum plot to be able to build was 25,000 square metres. In 2002, the British obtained a municipal licence “to enable the conservation of the property: reinforcement of walls and replacement of roofs mainly, with no increase in volume planned”, only the construction of a swimming pool.
-However, the convicted parties built “a new detached single-family house of a chalet type, with basement, swimming pool and asphalting of the outer perimeter of the house, with an irregular shape and an extension of 240 square metres”. The court sentenced both to eight months in prison, a fine of 5,400 euros, with subsidiary personal liability and one year’s special disqualification from carrying out building promotion and/or construction activities, and payment of the costs. Likewise, “the demolition of what was unduly built was ordered at the expense of the convicted parties, without prejudice to the compensation due to third parties in good faith”.
-The mayor of Torrox, Óscar Medina (PP), explained to Diario Sur that it is “the first” house built in the countryside almost two decades ago that they have been forced to demolish by a final judgment, “by the ignoring” of the owners since 2011 and the Town Hall also since then. “It was an illegal house from the time of the socialist Paco Muñoz in the mayor’s office, the court had been asking me for several years, they have given me an ultimatum, we have demolished it and now we are passing the bill to the court to claim it from the owners,” explained the councillor.
Cost of 28,700 euros
-In a diligence sent to the Consistory in September 2021, to which Diario Sur has had access, the court requires the mayor “to carry out the demolition of the illegal construction within one month, without further delays, excuses or delays, by the municipal services, with the warning of incurring a crime of disobedience and refusal to assist the authority, demolition whose cost will be borne by the defendant, who must also not hinder the municipal work”. The demolition work has cost the Consistory 28,700.56 euros. Only a 21 square metre building will remain in the area, equivalent to the licence initially granted.
-“We have paid a lot of money in lawyers, my parents have been part of this community for 25 years, we did it in good faith, we followed the advice of local people, we invested 500,000 euros in building the house, we paid a fine of 70,000 to the Town Hall, it is all very sad, disheartening and very unfair,” said the daughter of the owners, who continues to live in Torrox-Costa, in a flat. “The worst thing has been to see that thieves have come to steal our things while the house was being demolished,” she said. NERJA

Nerja Town Hall creates a new car park with capacity for 165 vehicles: {Translation}
-Nerja Town Hall has created a new provisional parking area with capacity for 165 vehicles on the municipal plot where the old fire station was located, next to the roundabout between the old N-340 road and Calle Filipinas, which gives access to Burriana beach. It is expected to open to the public tomorrow.
-This area is strategically located, just a few minutes walk from Burriana beach and the Ciudad Deportiva, among others”. The councillor also explained that this action is part of the municipal government’s strategy to achieve the maximum provision of free parking spaces in Nerja and Maro. Photo:.axarquiaplus. ANDALUCIA

The Algeciras and Tarifa links with Tangier are ready for traffic to resume: {Translation}
-The resumption of passenger and vehicle traffic in the Strait of Gibraltar is imminent. The reopening of the borders announced by Morocco during the visit of the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, to King Mohamed VI has made the ports of Algeciras and Tarifa start up. The Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA) has communicated today in its social networks that on Monday it will announce the date of the resumption of the links.
-The companies related to the passengers transit are starting to organise the return of the lines and they do it with a similar device to the one carried out for the Strait Crossing Operation (OPE), because although the date of the same has not been specified, the fact that the resumption of the maritime traffic, although it is gradual, takes place at Easter, holiday period in Europe, can cause a flood of Maghrebi travellers. It should be remembered that Ramadan is also being celebrated, which also heightens their interest in travelling to Morocco.
-For its part, the Moroccan Ministry of Transport has authorised the Moroccan shipping companies to re-establish the lines immediately, while respecting the rules against the Covid pandemic in both countries. However, the ports of Algeciras and Tarifa have remained closed this weekend as far as links with the two Tangier ports are concerned. -Video and photos have emerged showing Mr Johnson travelling on a train from Poland into Ukraine ahead of Saturday’s meeting. France’s Macron and Le Pen head to April 24 election runoff:
French leader Emmanuel Macron (28.1-29.5%) and his strongest challenger Marine Le Pen (23.3-24.4%) qualified on Sunday for a presidential election runoff on April 24, pitting a pro-European economic liberal against a far-right nationalist.
With projections putting Macron in first place ahead of Le Pen after Sunday’s first round voting, other major candidates admitted defeat. Except for another far-right candidate, Eric Zemmour, they all urged voters to back the incumbent in two weeks’ time in order to block the far-right.
