NEW MASK RULES- Tuesday, the Council of Ministers will vote to approve the end of the mandatory use of face masks indoors from Wednesday: {Translation, full article} 18/04/2022 11:38
-The Council of Ministers will approve this Tuesday a Royal Decree by which the use of face masks will cease to be compulsory in indoor spaces. The measure will come into effect the following day, Wednesday 20 April, after being published in the Official State Gazette (BOE).
-Although it is not yet officially known which specific places will continue to be obligatory, the latest report of the ‘Positioning of the Ponencia de Alertas, Planes de Preparación y Respuesta sobre el uso de mascarillas en espacios interiores’, to which Europa Press had access, states that it should be worn by workers and visitors to care centres and people admitted when they are in shared spaces outside their rooms or in social and health centres; and when travelling on public transport.
-“It will continue to be worn inside health care facilities, services and establishments. This includes pharmacies, hospitals, health centres and blood transfusion centres”, the Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, said this Sunday in an interview in ‘El País’.
-She also added that it should be compulsory in transport “by plane, rail, bus, metro and also in transport by boat, inland”. “There is no exception for public transport. It must be worn on all public transport”, she stressed.
-The report also advises against the use of masks by pupils in schools and recommends responsible use of masks by vulnerable people in any situation in which they have prolonged contact with people at a distance of less than 1.5 metres; and teachers with vulnerability factors.
-In the workplace, the presentation advised the use of the mask whenever work must be carried out at an interpersonal distance of less than 1.5 metres and the adequate ventilation of the space cannot be guaranteed; and in the family environment, gatherings of friends and private celebrations. Darias also confirmed this Sunday that it will be up to the occupational risk departments of the companies to decide in which spaces they must be used in an obligatory manner.
-In any case, and despite the fact that it will no longer be compulsory, its use will be recommended in enclosed public spaces where people pass through, such as shops (shopping centres, supermarkets and small businesses); enclosed spaces where people spend time without eating or drinking (cinemas, theatres, concert halls and museums) and in enclosed spaces where people spend time eating and drinking (bars, restaurants and nightlife venues).
-In an interview on ‘Antena 3’ on Monday, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, pointed out that, in fact, “many people” will continue to wear it because the pandemic “continues to spread” and many people continue to die around the world.
-In addition, the President of the Executive recalled that although the cumulative incidence of coronavirus infection is around 400 points, “a high rate compared to other variants”, it is “lower” than in other countries and the levels of hospitalisation and occupation of Intensive Care Units (ICU) is less than 4 percent. “All of this has allowed us to take the decision to move towards recommending the widespread use of facemasks indoors. Vaccination has been the turning point that has allowed us to make this decision,” he said. SPAIN
Some traffic police drive unmarked vans: If you drive on Spanish roads you may well have passed some of the DGT’s unmarked vans but the chances are you didn’t notice them because that’s the intention. Why? Because they want to remain anonymous to catch people who commit traffic offences more easily, especially since the new Traffic and Road Safety Law came into force last month.
-In addition to the Traffic Directorate-General’s usual equipment, which includes helicopters, drones, roadside surveillance and radar devices, there are 15 unmarked vans whose occupants focus on distractions while driving. For example, if they see you holding a mobile phone, even if you are not using it, you can expect a fine of 200 euros and the loss of six points from your driving licence. Fraud warning- DGT is being spoofed by e-mail with the excuse of an unpaid fine: {Translation}
-The Oficina de Seguridad del Internauta (OSI) has issued a warning about a fraudulent email campaign for the Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT) with the excuse of an unpaid fine. The message contains a link to a supposed notification that downloads malware onto the device to steal user data.
-The identified emails contain the following subject to provoke the user’s interest (see photo, click to enlarge): “Vehicle Blocking – Unpaid Fine”. (Bloqueo del Vehículo–Multa no pagada)
-The Guardia Civil also warns it is striking that the cybercriminals have managed to use a sender address with an email domain similar to the governmental one: gob.es.
-The Oficina del Internauta itself does not rule out the possibility that there are other emails with different subjects but with the same objective: “to incite the user to download a file under some pretext of interest, using social engineering techniques”.
-What to do if you have downloaded the malicious program?
These are the instructions provided by the Oficina de Seguridad del Internauta in case you have received this scam email:
“If you have downloaded and executed the malicious file, it is possible that your device has been infected. To protect your computer, you should scan it with an up-to-date antivirus.
-On the other hand, it also points out that if you have not launched the downloaded file, your device is probably not infected. All you need to do is delete the file from the download folder. It is also important to trash the mail you have received.
-Similarly, the agency reminds you that if you are in doubt about the legitimacy of an email or SMS, “do not click on any link and contact the company or service that supposedly sent you the email, always through their official customer service channels”.

Hoteliers in Malaga applaud the data of the Holy Week but warn of the collapse of the profitability: {Translation}
-The hotel sector in Malaga is satisfied with the occupancy rates recorded this Easter, although it warns that its profitability is in danger due to inflation.
-The vice-president of the Association of Hotel Businessmen of the Costa del Sol (Aehcos), Javier Hernández, pointed out on Monday that the average occupancy rate in the province’s hotel establishments was 75.8% throughout Easter Week and 80.6% between Holy Wednesday and Easter Monday, coinciding with the public holidays.
-The origin of the tourists has been equally distributed, as 50% have been nationals and the other 50% foreigners, mostly Europeans. “These are quite good occupancy figures, although they are 12 points lower than in 2019. We understand that this could be the start of a positive year, but the profitability of the hotel sector has fallen due to the rise in energy costs, raw materials and inflation of 10%,” Hernández stressed.
-All eyes are now on the summer and the outlook is positive in both the hotel sector and travel agencies, although taking into account that we are still in a pandemic, that the war between Russia and Ukraine continues and that prices are skyrocketing, prudence is being maintained. Repeating the figures of a year like 2019, which was historic, will be very difficult in the current situation, but coming close is already a triumph, especially when just a few months ago the sector was completely dead. The Spanish municipalities with nuclear power plants describe the 7th Radioactive Waste Plan as unrealistic: {Translation, full article}
-The Association of Municipalities in Nuclear Power Plant Areas (AMAC) has reiterated its rejection of the 7th Radioactive Waste Plan as, in its opinion, it does not provide any solution to the management of radioactive waste and has urged the Government to withdraw it as it is “totally unrealistic” and lacks a strategy.
-It is a “disgrace” that after so much time the Government is putting a draft Plan on public display that does not define a nuclear waste management policy, lamented the president of AMAC, Pedro Sánchez Yebra, who accuses the Government of not taking a decision that is its responsibility.
-In a statement, AMAC insisted that the draft of the radioactive waste plan, currently in the process of public information by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, does not include a procedure for the selection of sites for radioactive waste management facilities, nor does it guarantee the right to participation of the municipalities.
-Furthermore, it does not include a “defined and clear” procedure for decision-making on the extension of El Cabril, nor does it contemplate any system for mitigating the negative effects of hosting this disposal facility for hundreds of years for the municipality of Hornachuelos (Córdoba).
-In their opinion, the draft suggests that the Government is committed to storing this waste in seven decentralised temporary storage facilities at the power plant sites, instead of a single ATC, which shows the change in the Government’s political strategy, when months ago it announced new individualised storage facilities, dispersing nuclear waste throughout the country.
-This decision – AMAC continued – was taken “without consulting the affected municipalities and without a general agreement between the State and the municipalities for the management of radioactive waste”.
-The “only valid strategy”, which respects all the principles validated in international scenarios, is the construction of a Deep Geological Disposal Facility (DGS), they explained.
-Faced with this situation, the nuclear municipalities demand “a real and sincere dialogue with the State and all the parties involved that facilitates the correct management of spent fuel”, and that contemplates the mitigation of the negative effects of the facilities on the territories where they are located.
