Halting Erosion Using Vetiver Grass from Vetiver Spain:
Vetiver Grass is a fast growing non-invasive clumping grass that grows to 2 metres in height. It has a root system that grows to 3-4 metres deep and they are very strong.
The National Geographic Magazine has called them “Roots of Steel”.
Once Vetiver is established it is drought resistant.
We are located in Sayalonga and we can plant all year round but February and March are the best months to plant Vetiver. Vetiver loves the heat of a long summer to get established.
Decomposing Vetiver used as a mulch, improves soil quality, keeps the weeds down and the insects away as it is a natural insect repellent. It is in the same family as Lemon Grass, which we also carry.
Vetiver also is a nutritious and replenishable animal feed. Horses, cattle, and pigs love it.
We use Vetiver along driveways and sidewalks. It also makes a great and inexpensive Ornamental hedge.

COSTA DEL SOL

The rain in March and April has filled two major reservoirs that supply Malaga city and the Costa del Sol: La Concepción reservoir in Marbella, which supplies the Costa del Sol, gained 317 litres per square metre between 1 March and 18 April, and is now so full that water is being transferred from there to the Axarquía. The reservoir is still at 94% of capacity.
-The Conde del Guadalhorce reservoir in Malaga, which together with those of Guadalhorce and Guadalteba supplies the city and the Guadalhorce Valley, is also practically full, at 96%. The total amount in these three reservoirs guarantees the supply in Malaga city for the next three years.
-La Viñuela, on the other hand, has only gained four cubic hectometres with the recent rainfall and holds only 16.8 per cent of its capacity, so it is still officially at a critical level. Restrictions are in force for agriculture and domestic use in some areas, to try to reserve supplies in the face of the dry summer ahead. TORROX

Torrox Marina and Golf Course Update: {Translation}
-The Torrox Golf Course is closer to becoming a reality after the acquisition of all the shares of the company Calaceite Developments S.L., a company that belonged to the Fuerte Hoteles group and which was declared bankrupt, with which Torrox Town Hall now owns 78.22% of Calaceite Golf S.L., established in 2005 for the design, construction, development and management of the project.
-The mayor of Torrox, Óscar Medina, president and managing director of the company in which the councillor Paula Moreno is also a director, considered the signing of the deed this Tuesday before the notary Juan Carlos Martín Romero as a “key piece for the future Golf Course”.
-Medina has insisted on his intention to reactivate also the Marina, since, as he has pointed out “these two projects, which will be a boost for the local economy, will revolutionize the municipality to make it a first class tourist destination on the Costa del Sol.
-The Torrox councillor stressed once again the need to provide the municipality with tourist infrastructures that complement all the attractions it already has. “Torrox has the charm of a white village, a rich gastronomy made with the best raw materials from our own fields and greenhouses to be enjoyed while enjoying the best sunsets on our coast, as well as having the best climate in Europe,” concluded Medina.
-For her part, Paula Moreno indicated that the Golf Course project has all the viability from a legal, urbanistic and environmental point of view, included in the General Urban Development Plan approved in 1992, and that it would affect 100 hectares of land, on the beachfront, where the construction of 3,157 homes is also planned. Turmeric can improve fuel cells, applications in sensors, supercapacitors and more:
-Turmeric, a spice found in most kitchens, has an extract that could lead to safer, more efficient fuel cells.
-Researchers at the Clemson Nanomaterials Institute (CNI) and their collaborators from the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning (SSSIHL) in India discovered a novel way to combine curcumin – the substance in turmeric – and gold nanoparticles to create an electrode that requires 100 times less energy to efficiently convert ethanol into electricity. While the research team must do more testing, the discovery brings replacing hydrogen as a fuel cell feedstock one step closer.
