Dedicated this year to the ajoblanco (white garlic soup, usually served cold) of neighboring Almáchar. In years past, especially during food shortages, it was important to stretch all food supplies and minimize waste. This soup was popular in such times. One key ingredient is stale bread, which was not to be wasted when folks are hungry. Stale bread is also used in migas & gazpacho andaluz, other staples during hard times.

– Importantly, the Kremlin laid out that Cameron’s words mean he “de facto recognized his country as a party to the conflict.” This marks possibly the first time that the Russian government specifically threatened to attack British military installations and equipment within Ukraine and beyond. So you’ve lost weight using Wegovy. Does that mean you can stop taking it?:
– Millions of Americans who have dropped pounds and boosted their health using popular obesity drugs like Wegovy are facing a new dilemma: What happens if they stop taking them? Many worry that they’ll regain weight and revert to old habits. In studies, people who paused the drugs put back on most of the weight they lost. But others are gambling on a do-it-yourself strategy to ease off the drugs and stay slim by stretching out doses, taking the medication intermittently or stopping and starting again only if needed.
– More than 3 million prescriptions for the new medications are dispensed each month in the U.S., according to 2023 data from the health technology company IQVIA. They include semaglutide, the drug in Ozempic and Wegovy, and tirzepatide, the drug in Mounjaro and Zepbound.
– But many people don’t stick with it. One study published in the journal Obesity found that just 40% of patients who filled a prescription for Wegovy in 2021 or 2022 were still taking it a year later. Some people have been forced to ration or halt doses because the drugs are costly – $1,000 to $1,300 per month.
– Doctors who treat obesity stress that the disease is a chronic condition that must be managed indefinitely, like heart disease or high blood pressure. The new injection drugs work by mimicking hormones in the gut and the brain to regulate appetite and feelings of fullness. They were designed and tested to be used continuously, experts said.
– The drugs work by changing the way the body processes and stores energy. When people stop taking it, many gain back the weight they lost, plus more. And many report a return of symptoms of obesity such as so-called food noise or intrusive thoughts of food, raging hunger and decreased feelings of fullness when they eat. Some people who stop the drugs and start again have severe stomach side effects. Others find the drugs don’t work as well as before. Benamocarra’s San Isidro Labrador Festival: Fri – Sun, May 10 – 12
The Fiestas de San Isidro will be held May 10 – 12 and the Romería on May 25 -26th.
– Friday. The firing of rockets at midday on Friday the 10th will herald the start of the Fiesta de San Isidro Labrador. At 6 p.m. a children’s party will begin with a show and entertainment by the group Plis-Plas. At 11pm there will be the presentation of the poster for this year’s edition, and the election of the “Romero Mayor”. Also on Friday night, at 11.30pm there will be the election of Miss and Mister Spring and later the Benadance 2024 Fiesta.
– Saturday. On Saturday 11th, there will be a Big Day Fair in the Plaza del Calvario. At 6pm there will be a snack for the Elderly with a performance by Araceli González, and the most beautiful grandparents of the village will also be chosen. In the evening, at 00:00 h. there will be a stellar performance by “Seguridad Social” in the Plaza de Toros, which will precede the Gran Fiesta Benadance 2024 with an entertainment show by great DJs.
– Sunday 12th. 12 noon, the Holy Mass in honour of Saint Isidore will be celebrated. This will be followed by the Day Fair with paella and drinks and various performances and shows. At 5pm the comedian “Justo Gómez” will perform.
The Solemn Procession of St. Isidro will begin at 9pm, accompanied by the Benamocarra Band and then the finishing touch to this year’s Fiestas will be a performance by the comedian “Yulen El Peluquero”. A big fireworks display at 2am will bring the Fiestas in Honour of San Isidro Labrador 2024 to a close. The Benamocarra Romería is May 25 -26th. How many cases of euthanasia have there been in Andalusia since the law was approved?: {Translation, summary}
– On 25 June 2021 the Euthanasia Law was passed in Spain. – According to the law, euthanasia is reserved for all those suffering from a “serious, chronic and disabling condition”, giving them the option of requesting assistance to end their lives in a dignified, controlled and humane manner. The bureaucratic procedures for this assistance are not always easy, so all the people who pass through here have some challenges before they can make the choice to die with dignity and freely.
– This is the case of José Díaz, a 33-year-old from Huelva. Díaz decided to exercise his right after severe after-effects of a domestic accident: this accident resulted in brain necrosis. The application process that José had to go through lasted almost two years, which was supposed to take about 40 days. We know that in Andalusia, the waiting time can be up to three months.
– The application process for this choice starts in a health centre, with a written request, which must be signed by the patient and a health professional. However, the doctor can declare himself to be a conscientious objector and this would complicate the process and access to the service. In October 2021, the creation of the Commission of Guarantees and Evaluation was regulated, as well as the Register of objecting professionals.
– The law allows patients to postpone the decision for two to three months if they wish to do so. And they show that there is a growing demand for this option, among all people suffering from serious, incurable and chronic illnesses.

Spain needs 25 million migrants of working age to prop up pensions, bank claims:

– Cloud storage services provider Dropbox on Wednesday disclosed that Dropbox Sign was breached by unidentified threat actors, who accessed emails, usernames, and general account settings associated with all users of the digital signature product. Dropbox Sign lets you sign and store contracts, NDAs, tax forms, and more with legally-binding eSignatures. Now those supposedly high security, legal docs and signatures are all hacked and should be considered public.
– “For subsets of users, the threat actor also accessed phone numbers, hashed passwords, and certain authentication information such as API keys, OAuth tokens, and multi-factor authentication (2FA, 2 factor phone code authorization).”
– Even worse, the intrusion also affects third-parties who received or signed a document through Dropbox, but never created an account themselves, specifically exposing their names and email addresses.
– The breach is the second such incident to target Dropbox within two years. – Microsoft says it’s investigating reports of VPN connection failures after installing the April 2024 Windows 11 update. The KB5036893 security update was issued on April 9th for all supported Windows 11 versions, and some users have reported that VPN connections aren’t working after the patch was installed.
– The only workaround right now is to uninstall the KB5036893 update, and Microsoft says it’s planning to work on a resolution “in an upcoming release,” which suggests a hotfix is on the way.

La Fiesta de los Patios de Córdoba (Córdoba Patio Festival): 2 to 12 May 2024
Cordobans celebrate the annual Patio Festival and Flower Contest by opening their beautiful courtyards of their homes to the public.
One of the main tourist attractions of Córdoba is its patios, a place of coexistence and center of family life. In them, history, light, water and vegetation dialogue in a unique environment.
This year, 52 spaces will be open from 2 to 12 May: 23 of ancient architecture, 20 of modern architecture and nine unique ones.
Since 1921, they have taken on a special role with the Cordovan Patios Festival, declared a Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2012. It is celebrated during the month of May, where the Cordovan patios are adorned with flowers and pots that hang from their walls, or they are placed on the cobbled pavement.
And to complete the essence of these emblematic places, their caretakers decorate the rooms with antique furniture or kitchen utensils, among other details.

The mongoose may be hunted on farms and preserves in Andalusia that show damage, new legislation will speed up the application process: {Translation, summary}
– The eagerness of the mongoose to prey on animals is a growing problem in the Andalusian ecosystem, affecting not only livestock but also many hunting grounds. This small mammal feeds on rabbits, small birds such as partridges or quails, reptiles and even, increasingly, calves, lambs or chickens, and is one of the most active and elusive predators (measuring between 50 and 65 cm, with a long tail and weighing between 2-4 kilograms) in the Andalusian countryside. Its threat to these groups of animals has led farmers, ranchers and hunters to request on countless occasions that its hunting be authorised.

There will be no Cala Mijas music festival on the Costa del Sol in 2024 and these are the reasons why:

More than 116,000 patients in Malaga exceed the waiting times to have surgery or see a specialist: {Translation}
– It is not necessary to look at the SAS statistics to discover that waiting lists are skyrocketing. From their own experience or from acquaintances, the people of Malaga know it and suffer from it. The latest data from the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) for last December confirm this: a total of 116,027 people in the province’s public health service exceed the maximum waiting time stipulated for an operation -3,388- or an appointment with a specialist -112,639-. This means that the Administration is in breach of the decrees in which it imposed time limits on itself precisely in order to contain waiting lists.
– In the case of outpatient consultations, of the 186,264 patients pending an appointment with a specialist from primary care, 112,639 have a delay of more than 60 days. This is the deadline set by the SAS after referrals from the general practitioner or paediatrician from the health centre. The figure means that in this section, 60.47% of users are – as they say in the health world – outside the decree. In other words, they exceed the times set by regional regulations.
– Moreover, the December figures are worse than those of June. Last summer, the average delay for specialist consultations from primary care was 102 days, while at the end of the year it was 129.
– Apart from these 186,264 patients awaiting an appointment with a specialist following a referral from their primary care doctor, there are 33,591 more people waiting to be seen by a specialist in the provincial public health system. But these cases are interconsultation cases – when one specialist refers to another – and have no guaranteed maximum time for care.
– Despite this distinction between some consultations protected by a maximum waiting time – those from primary care – and others that are not – those for inter-consultation or check-ups – the fact is that delays punish thousands of patients who often end up paying for private care or going to A&E to speed up their care.
– There are also patients who have exceeded the deadlines on the surgical waiting list. The decrees establish a maximum time limit for surgery, which – depending on the pathology – can be 90, 120 and 180 days. In addition, there are others that are not covered by a time limit (no guarantee). As of last December, according to SAS data, there are 19,301 patients with a guarantee awaiting an operation. Of these, 3,388 are out of time. This means that 17.5% exceed the time limits that should be met by the public health system.
– Also in the section on the surgical waiting list, the December figures are worse than those of June. Because last summer, the average delay in the case of patients awaiting guaranteed surgery was 88 days, and by the end of 2023 it had risen to 98.
– But in addition to the 19,301 patients on the surgical waiting list protected by the decrees – which the statistics show are rights that remain a dead letter in thousands of cases – there are those who have no guarantees. These amount to 12,673, with an average delay of 254 days and of which there are 1,855 who are waiting for more than a year.
– Beyond the cumbersome tangle of decrees that are not complied with in many cases, in total, as of December 2023 there are more than 250,000 people in the province awaiting an operation – 31,974 – or a consultation with a specialist – 219,855.
– The unknown of the delay in diagnostic tests. The PSOE has never acknowledged during its administration any patient outside of the decree. For this reason, trade unions and professionals have always accused the PSOE of making up the waiting lists. Now, with the PP in control, the data on patients who exceed the time limits are provided. However, the waiting lists for diagnostic tests are not provided. During the Socialist administration they were published. They ceased to be provided under the PP. The Andalusian administration argues that the Ministry of Health cuts do not include this information. So the delay in the tests is unknown, although it is a key figure because it depends on them whether or not the patient is included in the surgical waiting list. – The festive day includes a series of guided tours of the Nuestra Señora del Carmen sugar mill, located in a 16th century county palace, which will open its doors to the general public on the occasion of the celebration, as during the rest of the year it is not possible to enter. Ukraine’s top general says troops fall back as fighting worsens on eastern front:
– Russia’s troops have gone back on the offensive this year, capitalising on an advantage in manpower and arms to press forward, particularly in the eastern Donetsk region.
“The situation at the front has worsened,” Oleksandr Syrsky, (Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine’s Armed Forces), said in a Facebook post Sunday. He said Ukrainian troops had “retreated” to new defensive lines further to the west in some areas, conceding the loss of territory to the advancing Russians. “The enemy has concentrated its main efforts in several sectors, creating a significant advantage in forces and means,” he said.

UK border force staff to strike at Heathrow from Monday:
– Border Force staff at Britain’s busiest airport, Heathrow, will go on strike for four days from Monday, in protest over changes to their working conditions.

– A separate union, Unite, has said its workers will go on strike at Heathrow from May 7 to May 13 over plans to outsource hundreds of roles.

John Lennon’s lost 1960s acoustic guitar to go up for auction:
– A previously lost 12-string acoustic guitar {pic} that belonged to the late John Lennon will go up for sale at an auction in May after it was recently found in the attic of a home in Britain.
– The auctioneers said Lennon played the guitar, which is expected to exceed its estimate of $600,000 to $800,000, on the Beatles’ 1965 album “Help!”.
– The guitar was lying in an attic and was rediscovered by the current owners during a house move.

The three winners from Málaga in the Championship of the Best Cheeses in Spain 2024, one of them a first place: {Translation}
– There were up to four cheeses from Malaga that aspire to be the best cheese in Spain in 2024 during the final of this 14th edition of the Championship of the Best Cheeses of Spain 2024 of Salón Gourmets that took place this Monday at its facilities, and three of them have won prizes, one of them the best in its category.

It has a smooth intensity and creamy texture.
– Regarding Flor del Torcal {pic, right}, from Campyserr, they define it as a “cured goat’s cheese, refined with Iberian lard and flower petals”, which give it an “aroma and flavour in its rind that is exciting, as it reminds us of our fields in the mountains”.
– “Goat cheese, soft paste, enzymatic coagulation and washed rind”, they mention the Briqueta, from Cabraline, which is “produced in the wetlands of Campillos (Malaga) which transfers the aroma of the pastures of the area” and which owes its name “to its parallelepiped shape”.

Chemical-resistant cockroaches invade much of Spain:
– According to Jorge Galván, director general of the National Association of Environmental Health Companies (Anecpla), some types of cockroaches have had a “random genetic alteration” making them resistant “to certain types of biocides”.
– Galván explained that this can “happen with any species” but in this case it is making it more complicated to stop cockroach infestations. “If we treat with a biocide and there are resistant cockroaches, these are the ones that will survive and procreate. VIII Jornada de la Papa Temprana- El Trapiche: Saturday, April 27
(VIII Day of the Early Potato)
El Trapiche is preparing to celebrate a new edition of the Jornada de la Papa Temprana, which will be the eighth, in an event that unites tradition, food, art, culture and live music for locals and visitors. The festival will take place this Saturday 27 April in the square of the Tenencia de Alcaldía of El Trapiche.
The day will start at 11.00 a.m. with the inauguration of the stands selling typical local products. At 2 p.m. it will be time for music with the group A-Compás. At 2.30 p.m. there will be a tasting of the typical ‘trapicheño’ dish with ‘papas a lo pobre’, chorizo sausage and ‘huevos gritos’, all cooked with firewood and at affordable prices. At 4.30 p.m., it will be the turn of the presentation of the poster for the fiesta of San Isidro and the Romería 2024, which on this occasion has been created by Rafael Jiménez with the work ‘Amor, amor’. At 17:00 it will be the turn of Tamara Jerez. At 19:00, the group A-Compás will perform again. And at 21.00 hours, until the end of the festival, the group NEXO. The traditional auction of fresh produce will also be held, where attendees can recall how vegetables and fruit used to be sold in the old days in the markets.

– In terms of specialities, the longest list as of December 2023 was for Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology, which totalled 40,274 patients between the six hospitals in the province. The one with the most patients is the Regional (14,075), followed by the Costa del Sol (12,359), Clínico (8,572), Axarquia (2,461), Antequera (1,944) and Ronda (863). Waiting times range from four to seven months, depending on the health centre.
– Other specialities with exorbitant waiting lists are Ophthalmology (21,996), Neurology (15,941), Otorhinolaryngology (12,246) and Gynaecology (13,297).
– The Junta has released these figures after the Ministry of Health reported on them last Tuesday, when it detailed the overall situation of all the autonomous communities. In that ranking, Andalusia did not fare very well. The number of patients awaiting surgery rose by 6.5% from June to December 2023 and, likewise, delays in consultations rose by 3.7%. Thus, up to the end of last year, 205,005 Andalusians were waiting for surgery. This is 12,500 more people, or 19% more than in the previous six months and, moreover, taking the national figure as a reference, one out of every four Spanish patients waiting for surgery is Andalusian. Fire bug in Nerja- nine containers burn at dawn: {Translation}

The Dangers of “Software as a Service” Apps (SaaS) & Cloud Hacking – Identity Theft Without Accessing Your Devices:
– This article uses the term “identity” in 2 distinctly different ways. One, identity as in your personal documentation, as used in the phrase “identity theft”. Secondly, identity as in the profile that apps create for you allowing you to access their services. So, you have your own identity, and your apps have an “identity” (profile) of you. Hope that’s clear.
– Apps often rely on “cloud” based data “processing & storage” facilities, operated by third parties, to provide you a data related service, such as Spotify, YouTube, Office 365, etc. Thus it’s called software-as-a-service (SaaS).
– Apps all create an “identity” profile of each user with login credentials, user info & preferences, and history. This “identity” is attached to your data streams, acting as a pass-key, allowing access to the services the app provides.
– This exposes users to new risks, as their “identity” passes thru far more locations than before cloud storage existed. And it’s not just “the cloud”. There are many inter-linked cloud systems your data may bounce around as it is processed and delivered.
Your data flow on an app or SaaS is this:
User login and input from device>Internet Provider #1>App host services & their network of partners>Internet Provider #2>Cloud Data Storage…
And back again to provide you the data/service as requested.
– Each step has risks of exposure, and most of this risk is not even on your device. Your data and everything in your app identity (profile) can be stolen at any step in its trail.
– Most computer users and businesses have a security gap when it comes to identity-based attacks. This is because the controls around identity security are typically focused on securing devices as opposed to your larger identity exposure as it relates to cloud apps and services.
– The Internet has become so complex that is very difficult for individuals to combat these cloud threats. Large companies employ full time security teams and still get hacked regularly.
– The best defence for individuals is as follows:
