Songs from the 60´s, mostly Beatles with some Kinks, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan etc.
I grew up just down the East Lancs road from the Beatles in Salford and their music is part of my DNA. Even to this day when I play some of their songs, memories and the smell of vinyl, the Fidelity record player or my reel to reel come flooding back. Come and share your own memories with me (if you´re old enough!)

Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

ANDALUCÍA

Andalusia rejects a “unilateral” agreement of the Government with the Canary Islands on the distribution of migrant minors: {Translation, summary}
– The Andalusian regional government has expressed its rejection on Tuesday of the possibility of the central government reaching a “unilateral” agreement with the Canary Islands government on the distribution of migrant minors.
– At the press conference following the meeting of the Governing Council, the spokesman for the Andalusian government, Ramón Fernández-Pacheco, insisted that “agreements that affect us all should be reached with everyone”. He made this statement in relation to the meeting held yesterday between the central and Canary Islands governments to deal with the issue of migrant minors from Africa.
– Fernández-Pacheco expressed his opposition to agreements being reached unilaterally, “solely and exclusively” with one autonomous community “without taking into account the rest, when the consequences are paid for by the rest”.
– He stressed the need for a meeting “in which the opinion of all of Spain’s autonomous communities is brought together in order to address an issue that Andalusia has the greatest sensitivity and the greatest social conscience to try to resolve together”. Extra virgin olive oil rises 4.1% in the supermarket, but at the source it is less: {Translation}
– The average price of a litre of extra virgin olive oil reached 13.45 euros in April, 4.1% more than at the beginning of the year, despite the fact that at source it costs 1.21 euros less than in the first month of the year, according to Facua-Consumers in Action.
– During the second week of April, a litre of extra virgin olive oil was paid at source at 6.88 euros before tax, while in the first week of January it was 8.09 euros per litre, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
– Virgin olive oil has also recorded a similar drop in the price at source, as in January the farmer was paid 7.35 euros per litre, while in the second week of April its price was 6.21 euros per litre (1.14 euros less).
– The average price per litre of extra virgin olive oil in the main supermarkets (Mercadona, Dia, Hipercor, Alcampo, Eroski and Carrefour) was 12.92 euros in January 2024. Thus, the average price of 13.45 euros per litre recorded in April represents an increase of 4.1%.
– Among the prices of the 30 oils collected by Facua, the most expensive product is the litre of Carbonell brand extra virgin arbequina and hojiblanca at Hipercor (El Corte Inglés), where it costs 15.99 euros.
– The rise has been more pronounced in five-litre carafes of extra virgin olive oil, with an average price of 56.50 euros in January compared to 59.37 euros in April, an increase of 5.1%. The most expensive five-litre carafe among those analysed by Facua is Maestros de Hojiblanca, on sale in Hipercor for 65.89 euros.
– Facua has reminded that it is “still waiting” for a report from the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030, which has not concluded its investigation into increases in margins on foods with reduced VAT (such as olive oil), a practice prohibited since this tax reduction came into force in January 2023. COSTA DEL SOL

A summer to suit all tastes with more than 15 festivals on the Costa del Sol: {Translation}
– The Costa del Sol kicks off its music festival season in May with around fifteen of these events, some veteran and others new, which will bring artists from different latitudes and genres to Malaga, with a large Latin presence, such as Luis Fonsi, Juan Luis Guerra, Maná and Luis Miguel.
– Dozens of national and international rock, reggaeton, bachata, rumba, folk and indie pop bands and singers will perform in towns such as Marbella, Nerja, Torremolinos, Málaga and Torre del Mar/Vélez-Málaga, at festivals that attract hundreds of thousands of people every year and which have established themselves as another tourist attraction in the province.
– One of the most established events on this festival circuit is Starlite Occident in Marbella, which this year reaches its thirteenth edition with a line-up full of stars such as Van Morrison, who on 15 June will give his only concert in Spain, Diana Krall, Take That, Sheryl Crow, Tom Jones and the former member of the Backstreet Boys Nick Carter. The Briton Jamie Cullum will kick off this festival on 14 June, which last year attracted 350,000 visitors of 95 nationalities and which this year, until the end of August 2024, will also bring together renowned Spanish and Latin artists such as Camilo, Carlos Vives, Luis Miguel, Ana Mena, Plácido Domingo, Pablo López, Aitana and Vanesa Martín.
– Due to its economic impact (more than 30 million euros) and its capacity to attract audiences (190,000 spectators in 2023), Marenostrum Fuengirola has established itself as one of the major music festivals in Spain. From May to September, the ninth edition of Marenostrum will feature top international artists such as Maná, Aventura, Kany García, Pimpinela and the American rapper Macklemore, who will give his only performance in Fuengirola in Spain. El Barrio, Sidecars, Los Chichos, Niña Pastori and Estopa will also perform at the Fuengirola venue, with tickets already sold out for the concert on 18 August.
– Independent music lovers have several opportunities in Malaga to see their favourite bands. The first date will be from 16 to 18 May at the Galaxy Sound festival, which will be held in the Cortijo de Torres Municipal Auditorium in Malaga with Los Planetas, the doyen of national indie music, as the headliner. Galaxy Sound will also recruit Arde Bogotá, the revelation band of 2023, along with Sen Senra, Shinova, Crystal Fighters and Barcelona’s Sidonie, who will present their latest album, ‘Marc, Axel y Jes’.
– A few days later, from the 24th to the 25th of May, the Oh See! Málaga will bring other top bands from the indie scene, such as La Casa Azul, Niños Mutantes, Sexy Zebras, Ginebras and Ojete Calor.
– Those who want more can go to the Brisa Festival from 25 to 27 July, which will be held in the port of Málaga with artists such as Mikel Izal, Lori Meyers, Xoel López and Dorian, as well as the Malaga-born El Kanka and the incombustible Kiko Veneno.
– The Bella Festival, which will take place on 3 August in Marbella, is also committed to indie music with Viva Suecia, one of the best bands of the moment, La La Love You, Iván Ferreiro, Malmö 040 or the young singer-songwriter Íñigo Quintero, who in 2023 managed to become world number 1 on Spotify with his first song composed (‘Si no estás’) and without a multinational behind him.
– On the beach of Torre del Mar, the ninth edition of the Weekend Beach Festival will be held, which is once again committed to its eclectic essence as its line-up includes a varied representation of artistic styles such as rock, pop, fusion, urban, Latin and electronic music. Confirmed artists include Swedish rockers Europe, Coque Malla, Lola Índigo, Beret, Carlos Sadness, Álvaro de Luna, Vicco, Rayden and Melendi.
– The Selvatic Fest, which lands in the Málaga Fórum venue, the former Autocine, will feature Juan Luis Guerra, Black Eyed Peas, Andy & Lucas, Nicki Nicole, Juanes, Bomba Estéreo, Arcángel and Ptazeta, all singers from such disparate genres as those who will be performing at the Selvatic Fest from June to September.
– Spanish music will be very present at the 101 Music Festival in Malaga with some of the big names on the current scene, such as Pablo López, Rozalén, Vetusta Morla and David Bisbal, as will the Cueva de Nerja Festival, which from 21 June to 10 August has programmed concerts by José Mercé, Loquillo, Isabel Pantoja, Luis Fonsi, Chanel, Sergio Dalma, Antoñito Molina and Farruko.
– The Puro Latino Torremolinos Fest has incorporated into its third edition, to be held on 19 and 20 July, some of the most sought-after artists on the Latin scene, such as the Puerto Ricans Anuel AA, Bryant Meyers and Jhaico, the Cubans Gente de Zona and the Argentinian María Becerra.
– Also in Torremolinos, at the fairgrounds, the Canela Party festival will take place from 21 to 24 August, in this case with “unusual” proposals, such as indie rock.
