Another Socialist Plan Backfires- 85% of beneficiaries of the existing basic food distribution system, among them the elderly, homeless people and immigrants, will be left out of the new food aid program: {Translation, summary}
– Last year Spain’s socialist gov’t passed a law to protect women, that resulted in many sex offenders being released early, or having their sentences shortened! Now another epic fail has been identified by the Junta de Andalucía, who contests the “baffling” situation generated by the Government by changing the model of basic material assistance and discarding the one that had been implemented since 2014 through distribution entities such as the Red Cross and the Food Bank to distribute basic food to the most vulnerable.
– The Councilor for Social Inclusion, Loles Lopez, has asked the Government for an urgent and extraordinary meeting of the Territorial Council of Social Services and the System for Autonomy and Dependence by arguing that 85% of the people who currently receive these foods in Andalusia will be excluded with the new system of benefit cards. The new plan replaces direct food distribution with cards to be used to purchase food at designated stores.

Almáchar celebrates this weekend the Fiestas in Honor of the Santo Cristo de la Banda Verde, a centuries-old tradition of great popular heritage: {Translation}

Tennis News- Madrid Open Update:
– Carlos Alcaraz’s bid for a third straight title at the Madrid Open was ended by Andrey Rublev. Russian seventh seed Rublev rallied from a set down in the quarter-final to win 4-6 6-3 6-2 and break Alcaraz’s 14-match winning streak in the Spanish capital. Twenty-year-old Alcaraz {pic}, the second seed, was aiming to become the first player to win three consecutive Madrid Open singles titles. Rublev will face American 12th seed Taylor Fritz or Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo for a place in the final.
