SPAIN
Spain Boosts Russian Gas Imports Despite EU Push to Reduce Energy Dependence: {Trans, summary}
– Spain significantly increased its purchases of Russian natural gas in May, despite the European Union’s broader strategy of reducing dependence on Russian energy following the invasion of Ukraine.
– While other EU countries have sought to distance themselves from Russian supplies, Spain’s imports from Russia rose by 58.5% compared with May last year, reaching 8,726 GWh and accounting for 27.9% of all gas imports during the month. Russia became Spain’s second largest supplier, overtaking the United States, whose exports to Spain fell by 48.1%. Between January and May, Spanish imports of Russian gas increased by 38.2% year on year.
– The figures highlight Spain’s continued willingness to buy Russian fuel despite Europe’s political efforts to reduce trade with Moscow. Spain’s extensive LNG infrastructure allows it to import gas from multiple sources, but Russia has nevertheless regained a substantial share of the Spanish energy market. USA
‘Spain was very generous today’– Trump softens rhetoric:
– US President Donald Trump had softened his rhetoric on Spain hours after threatening to halt trade with the Nato ally. On his way back to the United States after the Nato summit in Ankara, Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One: “I did have issues, and I still do. But Spain, they came back all the way today. Spain was very generous today.” Asked what Spain had done, he said: “They honoured a request for lots of payments.” It was not immediately clear what the softening of Trump’s rhetoric might mean for his trade threat.
– {Many news outlets are quoting Spanish sources that say Trump rolled back his criticism after Sanchez explained Spain’s current 2% GDP NATO defence contributions. That originates from a Sanchez admin press release. There is nothing I can find to support that as fact. Trump, only speaking in very general terms, has not elaborated on the rollback of his criticisms as of now, and insists he still has problems with Spain. He avoided specifics on the point when asked, only stating that Spain has agreed to some unspecified payment, ssee video below. -Ed.}

– Sources from the Spanish Executive confirmed within the framework of the NATO summit held in Ankara that everything is being prepared in Rota for the arrival of a new destroyer from the United States after the summer. MIDDLE EAST
Iran and the US return to square one with a new exchange of fire: {Trans, summary}
– Hostilities resumed after the temporary pause in fighting and nuclear negotiations ended, with the United States launching a large scale offensive against almost 90 strategic targets across Iran. The strikes followed President Donald Trump’s warning that he would “strike hard again” after accusing Iran’s leadership of provoking renewed conflict. Iran responded with 85 coordinated ballistic missile and drone attacks against US military facilities in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Jordan, prompting regional governments to condemn the renewed escalation.
– The conflict also disrupted international shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, where commercial traffic fell sharply, while oil prices briefly surged amid fears of prolonged instability. Saudi Arabia accused Iran of violating the ceasefire, and the Gulf Cooperation Council urged the United Nations to protect freedom of navigation.
– Israel also declared its forces were ready to resume military operations against Iran with greater intensity, raising concerns that the conflict could expand further across the Middle East. TRAVEL
The Imserso €525 grant for pensioners living in rented accommodation- these are the requirements: {Trans}
– Today, Friday 10 July, is the last day to apply for the 2026/2027 Imserso season of trips!
– The application period for the Tourism Program for the 2026/2027 season runs from Monday, June 22, 2026 to Friday, July 10, 2026, both dates included. {Note: they have been known to reopen the application period for a given year after they process the initial batch of applications, once they know what, if anything, they have remaining. Some years sell out faster than others. -Ed.}
– Pensioners living in rented accommodation will be eligible this year for a €525 subsidy administered by the Institute for the Elderly and Social Services (Imserso). This benefit aims to offset part of the housing costs for one of the most economically vulnerable groups in Spain. It is intended for those receiving a non-contributory pension, whether for retirement or disability .
– These beneficiaries have more limited incomes. This means that for them, the monthly rent payment represents a significant financial burden. The measure is especially important for the approximately half a million people over 65 who currently live in rented accommodation in our country.
– Before accessing this aid, applicants must meet a series of requirements established by Imserso. One of the most important is not owning any property and that the rented property constitutes their primary residence.
– It is essential that the beneficiary is listed as the holder of the rental agreement and that the agreement has a minimum duration of one year. The agency only considers a property to be a primary residence if the contract has a duration of at least twelve months.
– Another requirement is having resided in the property for the six months prior to submitting the application , which equates to a minimum of 180 consecutive days of residence. There are also restrictions to prevent potential conflicts of interest. This means that individuals who are married, in a relationship, or related by blood up to the third degree to the owner of the rented property are excluded.
– The Imserso has a maximum of three months to communicate its decision. If the aid is granted, the amount is paid in a single instalment, usually before the end of the year, although in certain circumstances the payment may be deferred until the first months of the following year.

Yesterday it was stolen cables, today it is fires– A fire cuts off traffic between Madrid and Andalusia and leaves travelers without electricity and air at 36 degrees: {Trans, summary}
– Passengers travelling from Madrid to Málaga faced major delays after their 16:30 train was halted at Julio Anguita station in Córdoba because a nearby fire forced Adif to cut the electrical supply while firefighters worked beside the track. Although the fire was later extinguished, the disruption continued because specialist staff were unavailable to restore power immediately. Even after electricity returned, the train would still require time to restart its onboard systems before departing.
– Rail staff were unable to provide passengers with a reliable estimate for when the journey could resume, saying movement depended on authorisation from firefighters and Civil Protection. The delay also caused missed onward connections for 52 passengers, who were promised replacement buses.
– Travellers criticised the lack of information throughout the incident, while high temperatures and the loss of air conditioning inside the train made conditions increasingly uncomfortable as they remained stranded waiting for services to restart. ‘Total Eclipse Of The Heart’ singer Bonnie Tyler dies aged 75:
– Welsh music icon Bonnie Tyler has died aged 75. Best known for her songs ‘Total Eclipse Of The Heart’, ‘Holding Out For A Hero’ and ‘It’s A Heartache’, Tyler died after being hospitalised in Faro, Portugal, where she had owned a home since 1988.
– She began to experience pain in April and was rushed to hospital for emergency intestinal surgery. However, she began to suffer complications and a reported serious infection. She was placed in an induced coma and last month, Tyler’s spokesperson said she was out of the coma but remained “very unwell and in intensive care”.
– A statement published on her official website today reads: “Bonnie’s family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for. We will issue a further statement shortly but for now ask for privacy to deal with this tragedy.”
– Born on 8 June 1951, Tyler – whose legal name was Gaynor Hopkins – first shot to fame in the late 1970s thanks to singles like ‘Lost In France’ and ‘It’s A Heartache’. She rose to international fame with her iconic 1983 power ballad ‘Total Eclipse Of The Heart’ and the 1984 hit ‘Holding Out For A Hero’, featured in the Footloose movie soundtrack. Join us for a time of Holy Spirit led worship and experience the presence of our God. Our teaching is Bible based as we honour God and obey His Word. During this time of uncertainty, God’s Word reminds us that the Gospel shines brightest in times of darkness. Our service lasts for about 1 hour and 30 mins. With Tea and Coffee afterwards.
– Prayer Meeting:
You are also welcome to join our prayer meetings on Wednesday mornings at 11.00am for 1 hour, where we meet for prayer and worship.
– Jesus said: “I am the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me”. (John 14:6)

El Puente Christian Fellowship (Vélez-Málaga): We are a friendly, multi-national, Bible believing community of Christ. We meet each Sunday at 11am to worship the Lord. We enjoy a time of worship with contemporary songs and traditional hymns, and a message brought to us by our Pastor, one of our members or a visiting speaker.
The church meeting hall is situated at: Res: El Olivar 5, 8 Bajo 1, Calle Arbequin, Velez Malaga 29700.
Full directions and further information can be found on our Facebook page, or you can contact us by email on elpuentechristianfellowship@gmail.com or by phone on 665626342.
For those who cannot join us in person, we aim to stream Sunday services via the Facebook page (subject to a good internet connection).
