Stray Dog Needs Home

This is Jake, a young German Shepherd mix. He arrived on my doorstep a few weeks ago, scared, skinny and starving. Although it’s absolutely not possible for me to keep him, I thought I would try to find this lovely boy a home. There was a chance of homing him to Germany if I could help with the costs, I got him a pet passport, blood tests and vaccinations, but as he tested positive for Leishmaniasis, (he has treatment for this now)  Going to Germany is unlikely now.
I am desperate to find a home or foster for this sweet boy as he is living on my doorstep and I have nowhere to contain him. I feed, walk and play with him when possible, but he deserves so much more. Jake is very friendly and loves everyone he meets. Thoughtless Driver Kills Dog   

Today, Día de Andalucia, a very small dog was run over by a heartless driver. This is the fourth one here in Corca in just over a year. OK, so Spanish dogs like to chase cars but they don’t deserve to die for it. It is a national pastime for them. The heartless person who did this got out of the car & dragged the poor thing to the side of the road while she was still bleeding. This poor little girl whose name was Canela was less than a year old & she will be sadly missed by us, her little buddy, Perla & her owner, our Spanish neighbour.                                      We know it is a waste of time, but we appeal to drivers to drive slower on country roads. What’s on- Sunday Car Boot Sale, Viñuela                                                            The regular 1st Sunday of the month  Car Boot sale/market is at El Pantano Restaurant car park, overlooking Lake Vinuela, on Sunday 4th March. 9.30am to 1.pm.    Easy to find on the A356 towards Colmenar.                       Drive over the bridge crossing Lake Vinuela and the car park/bar is just ahead on the right hand side. Plenty of parking.   There are always bargains galore.. old and new.   Lots of locally grown fresh fruit and veg.   Homemade Mango + other chutney, jams and marmalades   Plants, shrubs, flowers and herbs.    Greetings cards.    Always a good selection of DIY tools.  (New) Ladies clothes.    Large selection of paperback and hardback books  Lots of household and garden items for sale on many of the stalls                                                                                      Come along and enjoy a morning browsing and picking up a few bargains at this well established monthly market, which attracts visitors from far and near. A super location. The restaurant has shaded terraces overlooking the lake and many customers sit and enjoy a coffee or a tapas and a drink and catch up with friends and acquaintances for a chat. “Wives and Lovers” adapted from “Country Wife” by: William Wycherley.   Director: Marty Margulies                                                                            The story behind “Wives and Lovers”   By: Marty Margulies                                          Back in September I received an email from Trish Hall, then Players Membership Secretary, now leading lady, praising an obscure Restoration comedy, ‘The Country Wife’ by William Wycherley, she had just seen performed in the UK in full 1675 costuming. Coincidentally, I had just acquired a book of Restoration comedies and this play was included. Reading it was comparable to hacking through an overgrown jungle filled with archaic and very smutty language; in its original form it could not have been presented by the Players. However, I found it very humorous and intricately plotted with three story lines: a rake uses a fake injury to insinuate himself into noble society; a jealous husband tries to cocoon his vivacious country wife; and a mature, intelligent woman must be dissuaded from entering into a doomed marriage. Like a comic strip light bulb flashing over my head, I decided to re-write the play in more accessible and less offensive language and updating it. But what period? I chose the early 1920’s because many of the same social strictures still prevailed although it was an age bursting with new freedom — the Jazz Era — and the UK had just come out of winning a devastating war. I re-titled the play ‘Wives and Lovers’ because that summarized the play far better than its original title.                                                                                                                                                  To be held at premises of The Nerja Bridge Club, between Salon de Juegos and Nerja Realty, at the top of Calle Castillo Perez.
