Comares resumes its festival in honor of San Hilario de Poitiers next Saturday: Saturday, January 14, as is the tradition in the Axarquico town of Comares, the homage to the patron saint of the town, San Hilario de Poitiers, will be held.
The festival has been held on the Saturday following the 13th of January for more than 30 years in honor of the patron saint of the town, who is paraded through the streets to the Puerta de Málaga. It is done after the mass in his honor in the parish Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación, which will begin at 11:00 am with the participation of the Balcón de la Axarquía choir.
The musical entertainment during the procession will be provided by the panda de verdiales Arroyo Concas, to give way to the orchestra Onda Sonora in the town square, where wine and pork tastings will be offered. The great popular paella will take place at 14:30 hours and the end of the party will be held at the Teleclub with a dj. 4000+ are expected to attend.

80 percent of Spanish consumers believe that sales are faked: {Translation}
– Eight out of ten consumers believe that the vast majority of businesses falsify discounts on part of the products they advertise as being on sale, according to a survey carried out by the consumer organization Facua.
– 83.6% consider that fraud through the advertising of discounts that are not real is committed by the vast majority of establishments during the sales season, 9.1% believe that half of the businesses commit it, 5 .5% understand that very few do it and only 1.8% think that no business does it.
– According to Facua, there are four ways to commit these irregularities, the first is to advertise a product that is sold at exactly the same price as before the start of the sales as discounted, the second is to apply price increases in the previous days and then display the discounts. – The start of the new year has seen a worsening situation in Spain’s public healthcare system, resulting in longer waiting times to get an appointment across all regions.
– The regions with the longest waiting times are Catalonia and Valencia, where the average time exceeds 10 days.
– This is followed by the Canary Islands, Andalusia and Madrid, where the average waiting time to get an appointment is more than 9 days.
– The average waiting time between when a person asks for an appointment and is finally seen by their family doctor has increased by 51.72 percent since 2019. “For a long time, the existence of waiting lists for Primary Care was denied. More than 200 million Twitter users’ email addresses leaked by hackers:
– Usernames and email addresses belonging to more than 200 million Twitter users have been posted online by hackers.
According to reports from security researchers and media outlets including BleepingComputer, the credentials were compiled from a number of earlier Twitter breaches dating back to 2021. Although the database does not include users’ passwords, it nevertheless represents a security threat to those affected.

If you remember last year, I presented La Desbandada, to commemorate the carnage on A340 in our area. This year, The Deadly Dry Run for WW2, a 22mn video will feature background comments (in English) to help our verbal momentum. Jose Manuel Cabezas Cabello, will facilitate the discussion, post viewing the video. This promises to be an educational and sobering session.
– On Wednesday Feb. 15th: Great 20th Century Crooners features 17 different artists and 29 tracks from these singers. The presentation traces the evolution and development of the musical style of crooning from the 1940’s onwards.
– Art Gallery: Exhibition of Paintings and Objects. Local artist Coby Bloemsma is exhibiting her latest work (pic) in the restaurant of Bio Beach Club. Semi-abstract in style, Coby’s paintings often have the human figure as subject. She uses acrylics and mixed-media. Her objects and sculptures are made from recycled materials. The Three Kings Parade of Torrox:
– Thursday morning, January 5th, their Majesties of the Orient will travel from 11 am through the historic centre of Torrox passing through the Plaza de San Roque to El Pontil and will visit Torrox Park, El Peñoncillo, Santa Rosa, Generación del 27, La Carraca and the Plaza de la Marina in El Morche.
– The main parade will take place in the afternoon and will start at 16.30 hours from Llano de los Frailes, in El Morche, to finish in the Plaza de la Constitución, in the historic centre of Torrox. The procession will then follow the Paseo Marítimo in El Morche, the old N-340 road and Avenida de El Faro, before starting the climb up to Torrox via La Rabitilla, Las Protegidas and La Almedina.

– On January 5th, in addition to the parade that will pass through the streets of the centre of Vélez-Málaga, there will be parades in Torre del Mar (poster below), departing from the Mayor’s Office at 17.00 hours; Caleta de Vélez and its peculiar ‘Cabalgata Marinera’ departing at 16.00 hours from La Lonja; Lagos and Mezquitilla, with a reception for the Three Wise Men at 17. 00 hours at the Tanit car park in Lagos and at 17.30 hours at the Town Hall; Cajiz, departing at 16.30 hours from the church square; Almayate, departing at 17.00 hours from the marquee located next to the Sagrado Corazón de Jesús Park; Benajarafe, from the Town Hall at 16.00 hours and, finally, in Chilches the parade will depart at 18.15 hours from the Casa Cívica. On Friday 6th January the activities for young and old will continue throughout the municipality with the Three Kings parades in Trapiche, departing at 16.00 hours from the Trops hill; and in Triana at 17.30 hours from the Café-Teatro.

Speeding: Has anyone got a ticket in the mail for exceeding the 80 kmh limit travelling from malaga towards nerja.
Exit the tunnel, before pedrogalejo exit where the highway speed is not posted.
Km 987.9. I know four incidences where this has happened and they were all posted as travelling at 89 kmph.

– We currently bank with Sabdell but find their interests and commissions now quite expensive, any recommendations for non residents please would be appreciated.
– Also there are three jacaranda trees behind our house in a little public square which used to be trimmed regularly, however they have not been trimmed for at least two years and block a lot of sun and light from our terrace, the square is swept daily so still managed. – Data centres are one of the drivers of the new economy, they are key to the process of digitalisation of the economy. In these specialised facilities, communications and company servers are concentrated in order to include the services of the digital economy in a more efficient and sustainable way.

– What happened to all that money? The national and regional gov’ts had such grand plans, to rebuild the social/business fabric of society! Oh, so many promises were made, project budgets proposed, plans developed, and of course the political brownie points made in speeches expounding on the coming growth we would see.
– Andalucia even tried to factor €3billion of it into their 2023 operations budget for a while, and announcements of budget surpluses were made with great fanfare. Soon after, the EU watchdogs reserved the right to monitor disbursements sourced from EU funds, and that great sum could no longer be spent at the discretion of regional officials to pad their budget. I saw no news updates about the Andalucia budgets losing that huge income, or the downward adjustments in budget that would be required as a result. How odd.
– Well, look around. Do you see improvements we were promised by the grinning Sanchez in numerous speeches, who was so proud of his successful lobbying for recovery funds in Brussels? Have all the vacant commercial properties filled up with thriving new enterprises? Have public services improved? Has your quality of life recovered?
– The answer is no, or no more than you would expect without those EU recovery funds.
– As soon as the Ukraine invasion occurred, and the energy crisis arrived, the gov’t and their lackeys in the press took advantage of the new crises to bury the EU Relief Funds story. Some billions of EU funds did arrive around that time, and seem to have fallen to the same black hole as the 2008 EU Housing/Banking Crisis Recovery Funds disappeared into.
– Those of us who who have been here for 12+yrs may remember the uncompleted highway projects with unfinished ramps to nowhere, financed by the 2008 recovery funds. A few years after those funds were spent, an embezzlement scandal erupted, involving construction services taking loads of money, faking supply purchase orders and then going bankrupt before completing projects, with little of the money ever recovered. Yup, same black hole.
– As some of these new EU Recovery Funds are not grants, but are in fact loans that will require repayment; the taxpayers will be on the hook for that. But where did that money we will be repaying go? Did we receive any benefit from the funds we will pay for? I smell another huge scandal on the horizon for our Socialist leaders.

The price of electricity rises by 41% this Tuesday, to 113.72 euros/MWh: {Translation, summary}
– The average price of electricity for regulated tariff customers linked to the wholesale market will rise this Tuesday to 113.72 euros per megawatt hour (MWh), which represents an increase of 41.6% compared to Monday.

– Added to this pool price is the compensation to gas companies, which must be paid by consumers who benefit from the measure, consumers on the regulated tariff (PVPC) or those who, despite being on the free market, have an indexed tariff, which for this Tuesday stands at 4.23 euros/MWh, according to provisional data.
