Banks will use Correos (Post Office) to offer basic services in rural areas:
– More than 230 municipalities lost their last bank branch during the pandemic.
– The three employers of the banking sector (AEB, Ceca and Unacc) have signed an agreement with Correos on Wednesday by which interested entities will be able to use the network of offices of the public company, as well as its postmen, to be able to offer basic services banking in rural areas. With this agreement, the sector seeks to have a presence in the less populated regions of the country without the need to have its own branches or ATMs, taking advantage of the presence of Correos in the territory.
– What has been signed this Wednesday is a “general collaboration protocol” through which the banks that want to can sign agreements with the public company. These will be agreements similar to those that Correos already had to date with groups such as Santander or Mapfre, allowing the use of their offices so that certain procedures can be carried out with these private entities. “Correos makes its Correos Cash service available to the banking sector to make cash withdrawals and deposits at 4,675 service points and through 6,000 rural postmen at customers’ homes,” says the joint statement issued by the public group and the three employers. AXARQUIA

DROUGHT- Axaragua asks local councils of the Axarquia for a 20% reduction of water consumption- reservoir of La Viñuela at 14% of its capacity: {Translation, summary} 20 July, 2022, 13:49
– This Wednesday, Axaragua, the water company of the Axarquia, has asked the municipalities of the region to establish savings plans to reduce water consumption by 20%.
– Campos referred to the “worrying” water situation in the Axarquia region, with a volume stored in the La Viñuela reservoir, at 22.6 cubic hectometres, at 14% of its total capacity (elsewhere in article it says 15.9%). La Axarquía fears that water consumption will triple this summer with La Viñuela at minimum capacity
– “It is necessary to preserve the resources of the La Viñuela reservoir, so in addition to the decisions taken in the Drought Management Commissions, others must be adopted as soon as possible,” Campos emphasised.
– He listed all the additional measures contemplated in the drought decree approved by the Junta de Andalucía last year, urging all the Axarquia municipalities to implement them.
The prohibition of using water resources suitable for human consumption for street washing, filling private swimming pools, watering gardens, public and private parks, golf courses, car washing outside authorised establishments, ornamental fountains that do not have a closed water circuit, showers and public pumps, the vice-president of Axaragua said.
– “The drought decree also states that water unfit for human consumption may be used for the survival irrigation of gardens, public parks and golf courses, being restricted to a maximum of 200 cubic metres per hectare per month,” he added.
– With regard to the additional water resources contemplated in the drought decree for the Viñuela-Axarquia system, some of them, such as the use of the resources of the river Chillar and the increase in transfer capacity between the Guadalhorce-Limonero and Axarquia system, “are not finalised although we have been informed that they are in their final phase”.
– Regarding the use of the Molino de las Monjas well (Vélez Málaga) for water supply, the vice-president of Axaragua warned that “at present it has no positive impact as the borehole is at a standstill”.
– With regard to the use of reclaimed water for cultivation, “the works to improve the existing facilities at the WWTPs are in their final phase and reclaimed water is being supplied from the Vélez Málaga WWTP to the irrigation community in the south of Guaro”.
– The Zona con Regulación (ZR) Superficial del Sistema Viñuela-Axarquía includes the following 15 municipalities in Malaga: Almáchar, Benamargosa, Benamocarra, El Borge, Comares, Cútar, Iznate, Macharaviaya, Moclinejo, Nerja, Rincón de la Victoria, Vélez-Málaga, Totalán, Algarrobo, Torrox.

COSTA DEL SOL

Chaos at international airports hits foreign tourist arrivals on the Costa del Sol:
– The Hoteliers Association of the Costa del Sol (Aehcos), in its latest report, has revised downward the expected numbers of international travellers – to a 60 per cent occupancy rate, a fall of ten per cent.
– Strikes and staff shortages at airlines and major hubs are making flying a nightmare this summer, and hotel occupancy forecasts for foreign guests have been revised downwards as a direct result. “In just a fortnight, more than two thousand flights have been cancelled at European airports, to which must be added the delays suffered by passengers. Also, tourists from the United Kingdom, are encountering certain complications at the borders following their exit from the European Union,” notes the executive committee of Aehcos.
– Yesterday Tuesday, 19 July, as on Monday and last Friday, the Scandinavian flag carrier SAS, a company based in Sweden, Denmark and Norway, cancelled its flights between Malaga and Copenhagen and Stockholm due to the strike that its pilots have been on since 4 July and which has led to the cancellation of 2,550 flights, affecting more than 270,000 passengers. MALAGA

“Squatter Removal” Companies Accused of “threatening rape” in Malaga: (The backlash to this may make it even more difficult to remove squatters. -Ed.) {Translation}
– “Threats of rape, I’m going to burn your house with petrol while you sleep, steel sticks, physical aggression”, this is the modus operandi of the so-called eviction companies, as denounced by the platform of those affected by the mortgage (PAH), Stop Desahucios and Abanico Solidario de Málaga.
– Some landlords, instead of adopting the legal channels, are opting to hire these companies that are outside the law.
– A real horror movie that “pensioners or people who cannot pay their rent” are experiencing, says Mónica Pérez, representative of the PAH, alerted by the increase of cases in several areas of the province of Málaga. There is a “wave of attacks” perpetrated “by companies hired by landlords”, and, as Rosa Galindo, co-spokesperson for Verdes Equo, explains, “some landlords, instead of adopting legal channels, are opting to hire these companies that are outside the law and use threats and aggressions”. These actions, Pérez adds, “do not follow any order from the judge or legality to do what they are doing”.
– One such case is that of Joana and her partner. They rented a room in a flat in the Carlos Haya area. When they signed the contract “we didn’t know that they were subletting” the room. Time went by and, due to “an electricity connection”, there was a conflict between the original owner and the tenant who was subletting the flat; as a result, the “owner cut off the water and electricity and left us stranded in the house”, laments this woman.
– However, her situation got worse. “On Tuesday, the squatters’ company ‘Exit Okupas’ arrived at the house, pushed the door open, ran over my husband, hurt him, all ten of them got inside and started to take things out. They harassed me, harassed him, and they were wearing Nazi emblems; my husband is black, so you can imagine”. This couple has denounced the company, which “left threatening that they would come back this Friday and that they were going to take him out by force”, she says.
– It’s a situation that “scares me”, confesses Francisco Álvarez, representative of Abanico Solidario. He says he has experienced in his “own flesh” how “sometimes they have even kidnapped us inside our own home without letting us in or out, without letting baby food in”. “The police have witnessed all this and have done nothing”, confirms the PAH representative, while Álvarez specifies that the agents “come and only tell us to report them”.
– Faced with this situation, the three groups have delivered a letter to the sub-delegate of the government in Malaga, Javier Salas, asking for an urgent meeting. The spokesperson for the municipal group of Unidas Podemos Málaga, Paqui Macías, also present at the rally, considers that Salas, “is the one who has to monitor and give the guidelines for the police to act in defence of fundamental rights”. According to her, there is a “problem in the city model and a big problem of unaffordable housing”. EUROPE

EU tells members to cut gas usage amid new Putin warning:
– The European Commission proposed a voluntary target for all EU states to cut gas use by 15% from August to March, compared with their average consumption in the same period in 2016-2021.
– The Commission proposal would enable Brussels to make the target mandatory in a supply emergency, if the EU declared a substantial risk of severe gas shortages. The move, which needs the backing of EU states, will be discussed on Friday so ministers can approve it on July 26. Spanish response follows below…

The Spanish Government attacks the energy saving proposal of the European Commission:
– “They cannot demand a sacrifice from us on which they have not asked us for a prior opinion. We have not lived beyond our means from an energetic point of view. We are not going to allow proposals that demand more from us than from other countries”, Minister Teresa Ribera stressed.
– Solidarity yes, but without accepting impositions on which the Spanish Government has not been consulted. “Spain does not support the proposal of the European Commission”, assured the Minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera. The Government thus responds to plan presented by the European Commission this morning, with a view to next winter. Russia expands Ukraine war goals as uncertainty swirls over gas pipeline restart: Moscow’s military “tasks” in Ukraine now go beyond the eastern Donbas region, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday, as the Kremlin’s forces shelled eastern and southern Ukraine.
– Lavrov also told state news agency RIA Novosti that Russia’s objectives will expand still further if the West keeps supplying Kyiv with long-range weapons such as the U.S.-made High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS). His comments, the clearest acknowledgment yet that Russia’s war goals have expanded over the five months of war, came after Washington said it saw signs Moscow was preparing to formally annex territory it has seized in its neighbour. MEPs Set to Approve New Rules on Minimum Wages for EU Workers: Following a proposal for rules to improve the adequacy of minimum wages, negotiators of the EU Parliament and Council reached an agreement in June. MEPs will now vote on the new rules in September during the plenary session that will be held in Strasbourg.
– Earlier in June, the Council explained that the EU Member States with statutory minimum wages need to put a framework in place that will help set and update minimum wages based on clear criteria. The EU countries will be required to make sure that their national statutory minimum wage allows for a decent standard of living.
– Moreover, the Parliament highlighted that each EU country would set the minimum wage level based on socio-economic conditions, productivity levels, purchasing power, and national levels. This means that each country will have a different minimum wage. Currently, the minimum wages in the EU vary widely, ranging from €332 in Bulgaria to €2,256 in Luxembourg. Among the main factors for gaps between different countries is the difference in the cost of living. Netherlands No Longer Granting Temporary Protection to Third-Country Nationals Holding Ukrainian Residence Permit: Third-country nationals who register in the Personal Records Database after July 19 will not be granted temporary protection regardless of whether they enter the Netherlands from Ukraine, their own home country, or an EU country. This means that third-country nationals holding Ukrainian residence permits are no longer entitled to municipal reception, living allowance, education, and medical care.
– Only third-country nationals holding a Ukrainian residence permit who fall under the International Protection Directive will be able to receive temporary protection in the Netherlands. “It is extremely important for us to provide protection to people who are not safe in their own country, but at the same time, we do not want to overburden municipalities. This change enables us to continue to focus the provision of reception and facilities on the people who need this,” the Dutch Minister for Migration, Van der Burg, said, commenting on the government’s decision.
– The municipalities in the Netherlands are now to examine the residence status each third-country national had in Ukraine. People who are no longer eligible for protection will be able to choose to return to their country of origin or go through the normal asylum procedures. Those who choose to return to their country will receive assistance from the Repatriation and Departure Service. TRAVEL NEWS

Threat of flight cancellations across Europe extends into August:
A report by Cirium, which analyses data on more than 35 million flights a year and 97 per cent of commercial operations, warns that European airlines have cancelled 15,788 flights scheduled for August due to strikes and staff shortages, accounting for two per cent of their total schedule and 60 per cent of worldwide operations. It adds that airlines worldwide have reported 25,378 flight cancelations from their August schedules.
– A study by Mabrian Technologies noted that Spain saw 423 flights cancelled (1.08 per cent of its capacity) between 1 and 15 July. Germany is the European country with the most cancelled flights – almost 1,500 – affecting 6 per cent of its capacity
– The Cirium report highlights that the European continent is the region being hit hardest due to a combination of soaring pent-up demand coupled with staff shortages and labour disputes that are resulting in several strikes. Germany & Spain Have Europe’s Most Powerful Passports:
– Germany and Spain’s passports have been considered Europe’s most powerful ones, according to the Henley Passport Index.
– Germany’s passport has been moved from the second to third position in this index, which ranks worldwide countries’ passports in terms of the number of destinations their holders can access without being obliged to apply for a visa at first, taking into account the data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
– While previously Germany was the only European country ranked in the second position in this index, now it shares third place with Spain, and both countries’ passports have visa-free and visa-on-arrival scores of 190, which means that citizens who hold both countries’ passports are eligible to travel to 190 countries worldwide without getting a visa first.
– The recent changes made in July in the list of the world’s best passports to show that the first place continues to be held by Japan, whose passport permits its holders to visit a total of 193 countries worldwide visa-free. At the same time, the other two non-EU countries share the second position, Singapore and South Korea, while both countries’ passports have a visa-free and visa-on-arrival score of 192. The immune response to the omicron vaccine decreases substantially at 3 months: {Translation} 20July22
– The results, published in the journal Cell Reports Medicine, come from a study sponsored by the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).
– In this new analysis, the researchers report that almost all vaccine combinations tested resulted in elevated levels of neutralising antibodies against the omicron BA.1 lineage. (“Almost all”? So some combinations did not result in elevated antibodies? Which were those, pray tell?) However, the levels of antibodies to omicron were low in the group that received AstraZeneca’s vaccine as a primary and booster dose.
– In addition, the immune response to omicron in all groups decreased significantly, and neutralising antibody levels decreased 2.4 to 5.3-fold at three months after the booster.
– The authors note that the results are consistent with real-world reports showing decreased protection against SARS-CoV-2 infection during the omicron wave in people who received a series of primary vaccines plus a booster vaccine. Golf News- Henrik Stenson stripped of Ryder Cup captaincy over LIV Golf defection: Stenson, 46, is believed to be on the verge of joining LIV Golf. The Swede has helped Europe win three Ryder Cups in his five appearances as a player and had just become captain four months ago. The 2023 Ryder Cup begins in September of next year in Rome.
– “In light of decisions made by Henrik in relation to his personal circumstances, it has become clear that he will not be able to fulfill certain contractual obligations to Ryder Cup Europe that he had committed to prior to his announcement as Captain on Tuesday March 15, 2022, and it is therefore not possible for him to continue in the role of Captain,” Ryder Cup Europe said in a statement. More Computer Hacker Attacks Coming From The Cloud- Google Drive and Dropbox Compromised AGAIN!:
– The Russian state-sponsored hacking collective known as APT29 has been using a new phishing campaign that takes advantage of legitimate cloud services like Google Drive and Dropbox to deliver malicious payloads on compromised systems.
– The use of DropBox and Google Drive services is a new tactic for this hacking collective. It is proving challenging to detect due to the ubiquitous nature of these services and the fact that they are trusted by millions of (mis-informed) customers worldwide. These customers were deceived by cloud services providers claims that the cloud was safe and secure, when in fact nothing could be further from the truth.
– It makes one wonder how many other hacker exploits from the cloud remain undetected? Reference: https://thehackernews.com/2022/07/russian-hackers-using-dropbox-and.html

Halting Erosion Using Vetiver Grass from Vetiver Spain:
Vetiver Grass is a fast growing non-invasive clumping grass that grows to 2 metres in height. It has a root system that grows to 3-4 metres deep and they are very strong.
The National Geographic Magazine has called them “Roots of Steel”.
Once Vetiver is established it is drought resistant.
We are located in Sayalonga and we can plant all year round but February and March are the best months to plant Vetiver. Vetiver loves the heat of a long summer to get established.
Decomposing Vetiver used as a mulch, improves soil quality, keeps the weeds down and the insects away as it is a natural insect repellent. It is in the same family as Lemon Grass, which we also carry.
Vetiver also is a nutritious and replenishable animal feed. Horses, cattle, and pigs love it.
We use Vetiver along driveways and sidewalks. It also makes a great and inexpensive Ornamental hedge.

COVID & MONKEYPOX

COVID-19 cases have tripled across Europe in past six weeks, hospitalization rates doubled: The World Health Organization said Tuesday that coronavirus cases have tripled across Europe in the past six weeks, accounting for nearly half of all infections globally. Hospitalization rates have also doubled, although intensive care admissions have remained low. In a statement on Tuesday, WHO’s Europe director, Dr. Hans Kluge, described COVID-19 as “a nasty and potentially deadly illness” that people should not underestimate. He said super-infectious relatives of the omicron variant were driving new waves of disease across the continent and that repeat infections could potentially lead to long COVID.

SPAIN

Transport Crisis- Carriers reject the first proposal of the Government to the new law on transport: {Translation}
– The freight department of the National Road Transport Committee (CNTC), the body that brings together companies in the sector with the government, has rejected the first proposal of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda for the new Transport Chain Act.
– After analysing the draft, the CNTC has expressed an “unfavourable” opinion, considering that it represents “a step backwards” in terms of the terms that both parties had been developing until now during the negotiations.
– For this reason, the representatives of the main employers’ associations of transport companies will ask the government for an alternative wording that insists on the basic principles that have been defended throughout this negotiation period.
– “The CNTC is not going to accept the drafting of a regulation that allows the government to justify formal compliance with its commitments but which is inapplicable in practice,” it stated in a press release. Source, Spanish: https://www.europapress.es/economia/transportes-00343/noticia-transportistas-rechazan-primera-propuesta-gobierno-nueva-ley-transporte-20220719103827.html

Escrivá and the self-employed associations agree on a minimum contribution of 230 euros and a maximum of 500 euros for 2023: {Translation, summary}
– The agreement establishes a path of increases for three years. Thus, the minimum fee that the self-employed will pay in 2023 is 230 euros and the maximum is set at 500 euros. For 2024, the agreement contemplates minimum contributions of 225 and 530 euros and for the last year, 2025, the quotas are framed at 200 and 590 euros.
– Finally, 15 contribution brackets are established in which each self-employed worker must be inserted based on his or her forecast income. The first three experience a reduction with respect to the current minimum base of 294 euros. Looking ahead to January 1, 2023, the self-employed with net income of less than 670 euros will have to pay a fee of 230 euros per month ; Between 670 and 900 euros of income, a fee of 260 euros will be paid; Between 900 and 1,166.7 euros of income, a monthly payment to Social Security of 275 euros is set.
{What kind of plan is this? Those making €670/mo (€330 below the poverty level of €1000/mo) still have to pay over 30% tax? That dooms these low income people to try and survive on no more than €440/mo! But they can get at least that much on the dole, and a lot more if they have dependents. So why even bother working? And those making marginally more pay less tax as a percentage of their total income? How exactly does that stimulate the small business sector? Of course, the answer is that this is being required by the EU in order for them to release EU Covid Recovery funds. -Ed.} Source, Spanish: https://www.abc.es/economia/preacuerdo-escriva-autonomos-cuota-minima-queda-euros-20220719084231-nt.html

Britons Using Spain’s E-gates May Need 3 Additional Documents, Foreign Office Says: Spain changed the passport rules for British holidaymakers just recently, allowing them to use the country’s e-gates despite not being EU nationals. However, the Foreign Office of the United Kingdom has emphasised that its nationals may need three additional documents to be able to get through Spain’s e-gates.
Updating its travel advice for UK passengers reaching Spain, the Foreign Office said that at the Spanish border control, they might need to show a return or onward ticket, prove that they have enough money for their stay, and show proof of accommodation, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports. EUROPE

France battles massive wildfires, Britain records highest ever temperature: Firefighters in southwestern France battled on Tuesday to contain massive forest wildfires and Britain recorded its highest ever temperature of 39.1C as a heatwave rising from the south settled over western Europe.
– Southern and western Germany and Belgium were also braced for potentially record-breaking temperatures as the heatwave, which scientists attribute to climate change, edged north and east.
– Confirming the 39.1C temperature record according to provisional data, Britain’s Met Office forecast even hotter weather to come later on Tuesday. Full article: https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/record-temperatures-scorch-europe-wildfires-rage-across-south-2022-07-19/

Inflation in Europe shoots up to 9.6% in June, with Spain at 10.2% in June!:
– Prices continue to run wild throughout Europe. The inflation rate for the month of June has shot up to 9.6% in the European Union (EU), more than one point above that of May, and up to 8.6% in the countries of the eurozone, half a point more. The data published this Tuesday by Eurostat confirm that Spain is above the average, with an inflation that the INE marks at 10.2% in June.
– In this way, prices in Spain are at a higher level than that of its European partners, with France (6.5%), Germany (8.2%), Italy (8.5%) or Portugal (9 %) with very high rates but all below that of our country in June. Above are countries like Belgium (10.5%), Greece (11.6%) or Poland (14.2%).
– High inflation in the eurozone (8.6%) puts more pressure on the European Central Bank (ECB) to propose a rise in interest rates that contains the rate. The war in Ukraine, with no sign of ending in the short term, is affecting the rise in prices due to the rise in energy prices but also due to the lack of raw materials such as cereal imported from Russia and Ukraine, which generates some bottle that drive up costs.
– According to Eurostat data, energy has become 42% more expensive compared to June 2021 in the eurozone, a rate 3.4 points higher than that registered in April. On the fresh food side, they have risen by 11.2% since a year ago, the highest level recorded so far. TECH

Mac Attack Comes From the Cloud!- Cybersecurity researchers have taken the wraps off a previously undocumented spyware targeting the Apple macOS operating system: The malware, codenamed CloudMensis by Slovak cybersecurity firm ESET, is said to exclusively use public cloud storage services such as pCloud, Yandex Disk, and Dropbox for receiving attacker commands and exfiltrating files. “Its capabilities clearly show that the intent of its operators is to gather information from the victims’ Macs by exfiltrating documents, keystrokes, and screen captures,” ESET researcher Marc-Etienne M. Léveillé said in a report published today. CloudMensis, written in Objective-C, was first discovered in April 2022 and is designed to strike both Intel and Apple silicon architectures. Fake Review Mafia- Amazon sues admins of 10,000 Facebook groups for promoting fake reviews: {Translation, summary}
– Amazon has filed legal action against the administrators of more than 10,000 Facebook groups, which it accuses of coordinating and promoting the publication of false reviews in exchange for money or free products. Amazon has announced that these groups are acting from their corresponding Fakebook regional websites, both in the United States and in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Japan.
– Amazon has also announced that it will use the information it uncovers in this legal action to identify the offenders and delete the fraudulent reviews commissioned by the scammers of these groups on Meta-owned Fakebook social network.
– Amazon has also pointed out that one of the groups promoting these fake reviews that is part of the lawsuit is ‘Amazon Product Review’, had more than 43,000 members until Meta removed it in early 2022.
– This lawsuit “is the latest step by Amazon to stop fraudsters trying to post fake reviews on the shops” that it integrates, and that last year they shut down several review brokers targeting customers in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, France and Spain. As Fakebook was not cooperative, legal action was required by Amazon to force FB into taking actions against these fraudsters. Recommendations & Requests

Car baby seat: I wonder if anyone in Digameland can help me please. My four-year-old great grandson is coming over for a week at the end of August and I wondered what is the law on travelling in cars. Do they have to sit in a baby seat or is a booster seat sufficient? Also, where do I buy or rent one?
Thanking you in anticipation, Alan, Puente Don Manuel

MALAGA

A hundred troops are still working on the fire of the Sierra de Mijas, already stabilized:
{Translation, summary} 18 July, 2022 10:03
At 19:30 on Sunday, Infoca experts considered the fire in the Sierra de Mijas to be stabilised after a reconnaissance flight over the area and the emergency level was reduced to zero. However, this does not mean that the fire is out. In fact, the fire is still not under control, which is why around one hundred Plan Infoca personnel will continue to work on Monday, as well as six heavy extinguishing vehicles, the Mobile Meteorology and Transmissions Unit from Malaga and a medical unit (UMIF). EUROPE

Temperatures have soared into the mid-40s in some regions, with wildfires raging across tinder-dry countryside in Portugal, Spain and France: As the UK braces for record temperatures – with the possibility of it passing 40C on Tuesday – mainland Europe is also experiencing a severe heatwave. Temperatures have soared into the mid-40s in some regions, with wildfires raging across tinder-dry countryside in Portugal, Spain and France. The heatwave is expected to spread to Germany and Belgium in the coming days.
– Spain was facing the eighth and final day of a more than week-long heatwave on Monday, which caused more than 510 heat-related deaths, according to estimates from the Carlos III Health Institute. With fires burning thousands of hectares in Galicia, Castille and Leon, Catalonia, Extremadura and Andalusia, Spain mourned the death of one firefighter in the north-western province of Zamora on Sunday evening. Almost the entire country faces a extreme fire risk.Full article: https://inews.co.uk/news/world/france-fires-map-where-french-wildfires-blazes-spain-portugal-1747699

Russia’s Gazprom declares force majeure on some gas supplies to Europe: A letter dated July 14 was seen by Reuters on Monday; the legal force of the letter is to shield Gazprom from compensation payments for disrupted supplies, but risks escalating tensions between Russia and the West. The letter said Gazprom, which has a monopoly on Russian gas exports by pipeline, could not fulfil its supply obligations because of “extraordinary” circumstances. It said the force majeure clause, invoked to lift a business from contractual obligations because of factors beyond its control, was retroactively effective from deliveries starting from June 14.
– The Nord Stream 1 pipeline is shut for annual maintenance, which is meant to be completed on July 21, but some of Gazprom’s European customers are nervous supplies will not resume. New Yorkers queue up for monkeypox vaccine as cases climb: The city of more than eight million people saw monkeypox infections climb last week, with 461 cases recorded Friday since the US outbreak began in May.
On Friday, 9,200 time slots became available on the city’s dedicated website at 6:00 pm. They were all gone in seven minutes. Three days earlier, site traffic was so high that the page crashed. Golf News- Cameron Smith rallies to win British Open at St. Andrews, afterwards rumours suggest he may jump ship: Cameron Smith charged his way into history on the Old Course, a Sunday stunner at St. Andrews that sent the Australian to his first major by overcoming Rory McIlroy to win the British Open. The stage was set for McIlroy to end his eight-year drought in the majors and cap off a week of celebration at the home of golf in the 150th Open.
– Instead, Smith stole the show by running off five straight birdies to start the back nine and delivering more clutch moments at the end. His 8-under 64 was the lowest final round by a champion in the 30 times golf’s oldest championship has been played at St. Andrews.
– Veteran New York Times sports reporter Christopher Clarey tweeted: “The brand new British Open champion Cam Smith was just asked if there was any truth to the rumours that he may jump to the breakaway LIV tour. He rejected the question but that was hardly a denial.”

SPACE

Unusually High Solar Activity- Leading space science expert predicts a ‘direct hit’ today on Earth from a solar storm:
– It has been a busy time for solar activity. Back in March of 2022, Earth was hit by separate geomagnetic storms, according to government weather agencies in the U.S. and the U.K. Though the geomagnetic storms likely didn’t cause any harm, they brought into focus the potential harm that could come from more powerful storms in the future.
– Then earlier this month, a G1-class geomagnetic storm hit the Earth, causing bright auroras over Canada. The only problem is that nobody saw this storm coming until it was quite late.
– Five days ago, a giant sunspot and filaments on the solar surface had astronomers worried about possible Earth-directed solar flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs) that could lead to blackouts.
– Finally, on Friday, it was reported that a massive solar flare had erupted from the Sun, which could see radio blackouts in many parts of the world.
– Now, on Saturday, Dr. Tamitha Skov, known as the “Space Weather Woman,” predicted a “direct hit” from a solar storm to take place on Tuesday.
– “Direct Hit!” she wrote on Twitter. “A snake-like filament launched as a big solar storm while in the Earth-strike zone.”
“NASA predicts impact early July 19. Strong “Aurora shows” possible with this one, deep into mid-latitudes,” she explained, adding that there could be disruption to GPS and amateur radio.

Bio Beach Restaurant- El Morche:
Did you know about the fastest moving glacier in the world? You’ll find it in the town of Ilulissat, located on the west coast of Greenland, 155 miles north of the Arctic Circle. This glacier, called Sermeq Kujalleq in Greenlandic (the language of Greenland), has been studied scientifically for more than 250 years. The oldest ice in it is about 250,000 years old, which provides a window to the past in terms of climate. It is among the most active glaciers on earth! It moves 130 feet a day, resulting in Sermeq Kujalleq being one of the fastest moving glaciers in the world! I know the Bio Beach Restaurant cannot cool you off as well as the glacier could, but it sure can offer you a selection of refreshing drinks and soothing refreshments while you enjoy the marine breezes on their lovely terrace! Give them a try!! The Bio Beach Restaurant is located on the El Morche beachfront promenade right behind the church. We look forward to seeing you there! For more info contact norma2kk@aol.com.

– The Aemet forecasts that the heat wave will continue to move towards the northeast tomorrow, intensifying the entry of cool Atlantic air, which will increase and extend the drops on Monday to the western third of the peninsula and on Tuesday to large areas of the peninsula. Although temperatures will still be high, they will not be as high as in recent days.
– The red warning will be in Álava, Guipúzcoa, Vizcaya and Navarra, which will reach 42C in the central hours of the day. The orange warning will mean that Badajoz, Lérida, Cuenca, Guadalajara, Toledo, Ávila, Burgos, Soria, Valladolid, Cantabria, Huesca, Teruel, Zaragoza, Córdoba and Jaén will reach around 40C.

Also on this day, Tenerife will be at risk of coastal phenomena caused by a northeast wind of force seven.

– Likewise, there will be some cloudy intervals in the rest of the Cantabrian Sea, the northern plateau, the area of the Strait of Gibraltar, Melilla, the north of the Canary Islands, and some daytime cloudiness in the Pyrenees and the Penibetic system, where there is the possibility of some showers or thunderstorms, generally weak and isolated. MALAGA

Map- This is the area affected by the Alhaurín el Grande fire:
– The forest fire that started at noon on Friday, 15 July in the Higuerón area, in the municipality of Mijas, advanced at a great speed on the first day.
– At five in the afternoon, the Copernicus portal of the European Union showed the first five localised outbreaks in the Sierra de Mijas. Three hours later, at around eight o’clock, they had dramatically multiplied in the direction of Alhaurín el Grande.
– The voracity of the flames is explained mainly by the mass of vegetation that has fuelled the fire. The area is characterised by being heavily populated with pine trees and the pine cones can explode like grenades, explained Plan Infoca, the Junta de Andalucía’s specialist forest fire brigade. The wind is gentle, but it also helps advance the flames. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/malaga/guadalhorce-valley/fire-map-20220716080538-nt.html
UPDATE: Sunday 17 July 20:45
– The Junta de Andalucía’s Plan Infoca brigade has managed to stabilise the forest fire in Alhaurín el Grande this Sunday afternoon, 17 July, after two days of intense work by the more than 400 personnel who have been working to try to put out the flames. As a result, the people who were still evacuated from their homes, around 700 of them, will be able to return after the Andalusian regional government lowered the emergency state to Level 0. Finland’s electricity grid warns of possible winter power cuts, returning to nuclear power: {Translation}
– The Finnish electricity grid Fingrid has warned of possible power cuts during the coming winter due to the energy crisis in Europe following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
– “In the event of a power shortage, consumption may be reduced by a maximum of two hours. Planned cuts will be notified in advance,” the company said, according to information from the Yle radio station. A spokesman said the measure is due to the abandonment of Russian oil and gas in the context of sanctions imposed by the war in Ukraine. As the company said, these products are “extremely difficult to replace”.
– However, it has assured that the power cut is a measure of ‘last resort’ that will be used, in principle, in case of emergency.
– The energy situation in Finland depends to a large extent on the commissioning of the third unit of the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant, which has been regularly postponed and is now expected in December.
– Finnish Finance Minister Mika Lintila, who visited the power plant this week, said the plant will be operating “at full capacity” by September and is already at 60 per cent of full capacity this month. The Olkiluoto plant is located on the shores of the Gulf of Bothnia in the Baltic Sea between Sweden and Finland. Two reactors already in operation produce 16 per cent of the country’s energy for domestic consumption. Photo: BBC. Computers about to get more expensive as Intel hikes chip prices by up to 20%: Intel is informing customers of hikes of 10-20% due to rising costs on its end, news outlet Nikkei reported. That’s likely to force manufacturers of everything from laptops to servers to bump up the cost of their products. Other chip manufacturers, such as AMD, haven’t announced price increases to date, but are expected to later this year. “Given the inflationary environment, we are looking for targeted price increases in certain segments,” said Dave Zinsner, chief financial officer. “So that really hasn’t shown up that much yet, but will be part of the story going forward through the year.” Full article: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/pcs-could-be-about-to-get-more-expensive-as-intel-hikes-chip-prices-by-up-to-20/ar-AAZCgUr

Beer for sunflower oil? Munich Giesinger Brewery pub finds way to beat the schnitzel frying crunch: While a litre of beer costs about 7 euros in German pubs, a one-litre bottle of sunflower oil retails for about 4.5 euros – making the offer tempting for many customers. Bottles of rapeseed and sunflower oil have often been missing from supermarket shelves in Germany since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and many shops ration the number of bottles per customer. “Getting oil is very difficult … if you need 30 litres a week and only get 15 instead, at some point you won’t be able to fry a schnitzel any longer,” Giesinger Brewery bar manager Hoffmann said, adding that customers have swapped 400 litres so far. Who else wants more softness and hydration on the face after cleansing?
MOONETTE – Organic Skincare for Mature Skin

We are a Torrox-based company specialising in the creation of formulae which help prevent premature skin ageing. We are committed to making effective products at affordable prices.
Your skin health matters to us. How you feed your skin is as important as how you feed your body. Why settle for anything less than natural and organic?
As our skin is the first layer of our defence against microbial infections, ultraviolet radiation and environmental contamination it plays a vital role in our health. As we grow older, however, our skin becomes thinner, wrinkled, and more sensitive; hence it requires the use of treatments containing specific ingredients to the care of treating mature skin.
Recognising this need we have created a range of formulae which help
-slow down ageing process by smoothing fine lines and wrinkles.
-improve facial complexion and eliminate blemishes.
At Moonette, we are passionate about health, beauty and plants. Your skin will benefit from the properties of botanic essential oils combined with a selection of nutrients for deep hydration, cell revitalization and antioxidant effect, all sourced from the finest natural ingredients with gorgeous fragrances.
Naturally, we care about our planet and feel the need to help reduce the sheer volumes of plastics waste that are generated daily around the globe. Presently, we are minimizing the usage of plastic materials in our production while seeking alternative forms of packaging. Food Lines Grow During Pandemic- Social Safety Net Inadequate to Meet Basic Needs of People in Poverty: The failure of Spain’s government to respond adequately to the sharp increase in poverty during the Covid-19 pandemic has left tens of thousands of people in desperate conditions.
– The 63-page report, “‘We can’t live like this’: Spain’s Failure to Protect Rights Amid Rising Pandemic-Linked Poverty,” documents the enduring weaknesses in Spain’s social security system. Efforts by the authorities to supplement a weak safety net have fallen short, leaving people unable to afford essentials. The violations of people’s rights to food, social security, and an adequate standard of living could worsen as global food and fuel costs spiral. This research is the first in a series of investigations in Europe into people’s right to an adequate standard of living in the context of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and rapidly increasing living costs across the globe. Malaga health centres forced to cut hours due to shortage of doctors: Of the 26 health centres in Malaga city, only six will be open in the late afternoon and early evening through the busy summer months. The remaining 20 will only work from 8am to 3pm. The reason for these early closing hours is due to the difficulty of finding doctors to replace those who choose to take their holidays during the peak summer period. Therefore it has been decided to close most of the city’s health centres in the afternoons until normality returns on Monday, 19 September. UK issues first-ever ‘red heat’ warning –very likely risk to life: The UK government has issued the first ever national emergency red alert for heat. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has increased the “heat-health warning” alert for England to level 4.
– Level four is reached “when a heatwave is so severe and/or prolonged that its effects extend outside the health and social care system… At this level, illness and death may occur among the fit and healthy, and not just in high-risk groups,” it said.
– “Exceptional, perhaps record-breaking temperatures are likely early next week, quite widely across the red warning area on Monday, and focussed a little more east and north on Tuesday,” said the Met Office chief meteorologist, Paul Gundersen. “Currently there is a 50% chance we could see temperatures top 40C and 80% we will see a new maximum temperature reached.”

EUROPE

Farmers in Spain join Italy, Poland, and Netherlands in mass European protests: The farmers are protesting due to their outrage over new government regulations that will force them to reduce their nitrogen fertiliser compounds, leading to a reduced number of their livestock, ultimately causing bankruptcy in family-owned businesses. The rising cost of fuel has also been a contributing factor to the protests. SATURDAY RECIPE

English Style Stuffed Brined Pork Chops:
– In the old days people were really afraid of under-cooked pork and so had a tendency to way overcook their pork. Mums used to feed us chops that were so overcooked, you needed a ton of gravy or applesauce just to make them edible. Bless them, they meant well and had only our safety in mind.
– The current inflation we are enduring is pricing some of us out of beef, lamb and even turkey. Fortunately our region has a good supply of pork, so pork prices are still reasonable here. However, the locals tend to slice their cuts of pork very thin, and fast grill them, so they often turn out dry, chewy and tastless.
– This recipe uses thicker cuts and includes a trick to keep the pork moist and tasty. Tell your butcher you want bone-in rib loin chops that are at least 1 1/2 inches thick (chuletas de lomo con hueso de cuatro centímetros de grosor), since you won’t find them pre-packaged in the meat racks of supermarkets.

More Negative Responses To Sanchez State of Spain Speech:
(Sanchez is being slammed by progressive and conservative parties for the proposals in his recent speech. -Ed.)
– Coalición Canaria deputy Ana Oramas has once again been very severe with Pedro Sánchez in her response this Wednesday in the tribune of Congress, in the debate on the state of the nation.
– “What I see every day in the street, what I perceive with the people I talk to is that with you there is no future,” the Tenerife MP told him. “Your plan, Mr Sánchez, is that you have no plan. Your plan is you”, added Ana Oramas as she looked at Pedro Sánchez, who listened with a serious look on his face. “You are an actor,” she told him, describing the situation in Spain as a “horror film”, but confident that the “film” would soon be over.
– Among other questions, she criticised him for having announced the subsidy for transport on the mainland (free train tickets for some routes until December) and not having foreseen that there are no trains on the islands, and asked him if he was also going to pay for the use of intercity buses or the tram between Santa Cruz and La Laguna.

PP leader Feijóo says the State of Spain speech & debate has shown a government in “crisis” and “decomposition” – “Sánchez’s future is short”: {Translation}
– The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has assured that the debate on the state of the nation has shown that the coalition government of PSOE and United Podemos is “in crisis” and in “decomposition”. He also criticised the “jigsaw puzzle” of measures presented by the head of the Executive, Pedro Sánchez, which, in his opinion, shows that he has “copied” and “plagiarised” the proposals of Podemos and the vice-president Yolanda Díaz.
– “Spain has much more at stake than Mr Sánchez, Spain’s future is at stake and Mr Sánchez’s future is very short”, said Feijóo. He stressed the “notable” difference between what Sánchez is offering and the PP. He said that the head of the Executive offers a “jigsaw puzzle of measures” and a government that is “fragmented and disconnected from reality”. On the contrary, he stressed that the PP proposes plans that “reflect a coherent vision of the country” and a party that is “united, connected with reality” and that is committed to lowering taxes for the middle and lower classes. “I agree with the majority of Spaniards that a government in crisis cannot govern this crisis. And this government has a deep crisis…”, he proclaimed.
– The President of the PP believes that the State of the Nation Debate will show that “a majority of Spaniards who trusted the current Government no longer trust it”. “Neither is Sanchez the spokesman for reality, nor is he the spokesman for the moderation that the majority of Spaniards support”, he said, stressing that there is a “moderate Spain that has been moving away” from Sánchez as the head of the Executive.
– In his opinion, in its “flight forward” the Government is focused on “changing the story but not on changing reality”. In his opinion, this is “doubly worrying”.
– “Mr Sánchez could have been inspired by Pablo Iglesias, founder of the PSOE, or by Pablo Iglesias, founder of Podemos. And he has clearly chosen to resemble the founder of Podemos”, he said, to warn that “podemizar the Government and activate the greatest populism in economic policy and fiscal policy in Europe, is undoubtedly a disservice to the PSOE, to moderation and progressivism in Spain”.
– In addition, he said that with Sánchez’s “patch by patch” measures, “the usual people” will end up paying and not those who have the most. “The few measures that are adopted are aimed at responding to media headlines and maintaining the coalition government,” he added.
– Feijóo again criticised the fact that Spain has the largest and most expensive government in history. The Spanish government is the most expensive in history,” he said, adding that “is there any greater insult than Sánchez asking families to tighten their belts and maintaining the most expensive government in history?
– In this sense, he criticised the fact that Pedro Sánchez wants citizens to assume “one hundred percent of the responsibilities that the Government is avoiding. “In the face of inflation, he asks Spaniards to measure their purchases at the supermarket; to combat the energy bill, he asks them not to spend too much on energy consumption”, he said, complaining that he has refused “once again” to lower personal income tax for middle and low incomes.
– Feijóo also stated that the politicians who are now offloading responsibility onto citizens “are the same ones who came to power promising to put an end to energy poverty, the most social government in history”. “With 50 euros per megawatt, we had to put an end to energy poverty, with more than 300, we should not turn on the lights”, he emphasised.
– According to Feijóo, Sánchez “can continue trying to deny reality”, but reality will continue to deny Sánchez: the facts are there, in every home, in every family, in the self-employed, SMEs and bills. “There is no realistic diagnosis, but neither is there a minimally sensible reaction because we do not have a government that is capable of dealing with an economic crisis of this magnitude”, he added. Furthermore, he indicated that “resistance has given way to survival.” Source, Spanish: https://www.europapress.es/nacional/noticia-feijoo-dice-debate-mostrado-gobierno-crisis-descomposicion-futuro-sanchez-corto-20220713125112.html

Repsol unions call strikes over the weekend to demand salary increases: {Translation, summary}
– Unions have called a first round of strikes by the Repsol workforce from this Friday and until Sunday in the thousand work centers it has in Spain in demand of the maintenance of jobs and the increase in wages.
– They have also called a second round, from August 13 to 15, which they will call off if Repsol maintains all the jobs it generates in Spain and if it guarantees the purchasing power of the workforce, in the midst of an upturn in inflation and at a time when that the company is posting ‘historic results’. Sayalonga tightens control of water consumption in effort to avoid cuts, threatens shut-offs: The town hall is requiring people to install meters to monitor their usage and said it will suspend the supply to properties who exceed their quota or have unpaid bills.
– Mayor Sagrario Fernández explained that, in compliance with a bylaw approved last December, they will proceed to cut off the supply “when users refuse to modify the register of their meter, at their own cost, and install these meters in the huts that the Town Hall is setting up”.
– Property owners have been given a period of 15 days, after which only town hall workers will have access to these huts. The mayor also announced that “when water is used for purposes other than those contracted, for example excessive consumption compared to the average for other users”, the service will also be cut off.
– With a registered population of just 1,600 inhabitants, spread over the villages of Sayalonga and Corumbela, as well as the numerous rural areas, it is one of the 17 municipalities in the Axarquía that are not supplied by La Viñuela reservoir, but instead through their own resources. Sayalonga receives its water from the river that flows down from the Sierras Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama from Canillas de Albaida and Árchez.

Car Makers Plan to Require Monthly Subscriptions to Use Heated Seats, and Other ‘Luxuries’ Has Begun: German luxury carmaker BMW is charging consumers $18 a month for heated seats using hardware that is already present in their vehicles. While BMW’s digital stores in the U.S. do not have an option for such subscriptions, the heated seat subscription was spotted in the company’s U.K., Germany, New Zealand and South Africa digital stores, according to The Verge. Aside from the heated seats, the company is also offering other controversial subscriptions such as $12 per month for heated steering vehicles and $235 for an unlimited option to record videos using the vehicle’s cameras.

SPAIN

Spain announces temporary taxes on banks, energy companies; thinks free train tickets help the average worker?: Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez on Tuesday announced temporary taxes on banks and energy companies and promised a series of unspecified measures to help people suffering from soaring inflation and utility costs as Russia’s war in Ukraine drags on. Sánchez said Spanish consumers need to save energy by working more from home and using less heating and air conditioning.
– Sánchez has announced that all Renfe multi-journey tickets will be free of charge from 1 September to 31 December this year. The government will offer a 100% discount on all multi-journey tickets for Cercanías, Rodalies and medium distance, after a 50% discount was already approved in the last decree on anti-crisis measures, which also included a 30% discount for season tickets for other urban and metropolitan transport, which the autonomous communities can top up to 50% or 60%. Response to Sanchez Speech- Slammed For Free Trains Offer That Ignores Rural Residents: (Translation}
– The deputy of Teruel Existe in the Congress, Tomás Guitarte, has reproached this Tuesday to the president Pedro Sánchez that he has forgotten the ‘Inland Spain’ in his initial speech of the Debate on the State of the Nation and has reminded Sanchez that the inhabitants of most of the rural areas will not be able to benefit from the bonuses that he has announced for the use of trains, because most of these services have been suppressed in the interior, rural areas.
– At the press conference Guitarte gave, he pointed out that the inhabitants of depopulated areas are condemned to move around mainly by car and asked the President if the use of private cars will also be subsidised.
– In short, Guitarte criticised Sánchez for his “urban-centric” vision in his speech and for his “lack of real commitment” to “territorial cohesion”, despite the fact that he set it as one of the four pillars of his policies at the beginning of the legislature. Source, Spanish:

Spain’s running of the bulls- One person gored at San Fermín: One person was gored and several people had very close shaves in the sixth running of the bulls at Pamplona’s San Fermín Festival on Tuesday.
– In all, four people have been gored in the six runs held so far this year. The other three gorings all occurred on Monday.
– In the 8 a.m. runs, hundreds of runners, mostly men, dash frantically ahead and alongside six fighting bulls as they charge along an 875-meter (956-yard) route through the cobblestone streets of this northern city. The run finishes at Pamplona’s bullring, where later in the day the bulls are killed by professional bullfighters. Photo: AP Photo / Alvaro Barrientos. ANDALUCIA

Aemet issues red weather warning for high temperatures in Andalucía on Wednesday: The Spanish weather agency Aemet has activated a red weather warning for high temperatures in Andalucía tomorrow, Wednesday, when thermometers are expected to shoot up to 44C in the Seville area between 1pm and 9pm. In his SUR blog Tormentas y Rayos, weather expert José Luis Escudero says this is due to a mass of very hot air from Africa, which is due to reach southern Spain on Wednesday. Application period for energy-saving improvement grants in Andalucía opens in September: Andalucía’s Minister for Development, Marifrán Carazo, has announced that the application period will open in September for grants for energy-saving improvements in homes and the construction of energy-efficient and affordable rental housing. The regional government plans to finance these from its allocation of the EU Next Generation funds.
– The scheme includes grants for individuals and communities of owners to finance projects such as replacing windows and blinds, thermal insulation, improvements to outside walls and roofs, the installation of solar panels and any other measure to reduce emissions and, of course, electricity bills. The College of Architects in Malaga is setting up an office to advise people about these grants, which will be for 40%, 65% or 80% of the cost per property, depending on the level of savings in non-renewable primary consumption they will achieve, which must be at least 30%. FINANCIAL

Euro reaches parity with dollar for the first time in 20 years:
– The euro and the dollar have reached parity for the first time in 20 years, signaling the market’s assumption that the European economy is heading for a deep recession as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Today, 1 EUR equals 1 USD.
– The shift means European companies and consumers will pay more for the goods and services they import, while European exports become immediately cheaper in international markets.
– The euro has experienced a dramatic loss of value since early February when it was worth over $1.13. Full article: https://www.euronews.com/my-europe/2022/07/12/euro-reaches-parity-with-dollar-for-the-first-time-in-20-years

The SEPE’s announcement explains how to collect the 463 euro unemployment subsidy for 21 months if you have worked less than a year: {Translation}
– This benefit from the State Public Employment Service (SEPE) is known as insufficient contributions and is intended for unemployed people who have not accumulated the year’s worth of contributions. To qualify for this subsidy for 21 months it is also necessary to meet other requirements that we will see below. The SEPE warns in its profile about this option if you are not entitled to a contributory benefit.
– “If you have worked for less than a year, you can get unemployment benefit for insufficient contributions, but you must have at least 180 days of contributions if you have no family responsibilities and 90 days if you have family responsibilities,” it explains.
– This benefit is paid depending on the number of months of contributions and the family responsibilities of the applicant. The exact amount is 80% of the IPREM for 2022, which means a total of 463.21 euros. If the job loss corresponds to a partial job, the amount to be received will be in relation to the hours worked in the last contract.
– To apply for the benefit, the application must be submitted within 15 working days of the start of the legal unemployment situation.
The application can be submitted electronically on the SEPE portal or in person at the office by appointment, at any public registry office or by administrative mail. If the application is submitted after the deadline, the administration warns that the days between the date on which the benefit would have started (if the application had been submitted on time) and the date on which the application was submitted will be subtracted.
– The documentation required, in addition to the official application form, is ID card or passport, family record book, company certificate accrediting the legal employment situation (if it has not been sent by the company to the State Public Employment Service) and proof of income, if requested by the State Public Employment Service.
***Requirements for claiming the 365 euro benefit***
-To be legally unemployed and available for work.
-To be registered as a jobseeker and to maintain this registration throughout the period of receipt and to sign the activity commitment.
-You must have paid unemployment contributions for at least 3 months, if you have family responsibilities, or at least 6 months if you do not, and not have paid for more than 360 days. If you have paid contributions for 360 days, you would be entitled to the contributory benefit.
-Do not receive income of any kind higher than 75% of the minimum wage, not including the proportional part of two extra payments (Amounts for this year). Gross or full income will be taken into account.
***Duration and amount of the benefit of 463 euros***
-The amount to be received, as mentioned above, corresponds to 80% of the Public Indicator of Multiple Effect Income (IPREM), which after the 2.5% increase in the General State Budget is 463.21 euros per month.
-Finally, it is important to know that the duration of the benefit depends on two variables: the previous contribution and the existence, or not, of family responsibilities:
-The benefit will last 3, 4 or 5 months, if you have contributed 3, 4 or 5 months, respectively.
-People who do not have family responsibilities can receive it for a maximum of six months if they have contributed for at least six months.
-And if they have family responsibilities, the benefit will last for 21 months, if they have paid contributions for 6 months or more (in this case, the right will be recognised for six months, and can be extended for periods of 6 months until its final duration). Source, Spanish: https://sevilla.abc.es/economia/sevi-aviso-sepe-para-poder-cobrar-subsidio-463-euros-durante-21-meses-si-trabajado-menos-202207111315_noticia.html

Recommendations & Requests

Airport Runs: Looking for a reliable taxi for airport runs from Malaga to Nerja. Any suggestions? Michele, Nerja.

Two Recommendations:
– Recommendation for Sherpa Restaurant, Torre del Mar. We have visited Sherpa Indian / Nepalese restaurant twice now, enjoyed the Menu del Dia once and chosen from the Carte the other time. There are Nepalese options which we have not encountered before and Indian favourites. All the food is delicious with distinct spicing in the different dishes, the naan bread is exceptional, leave some space for a Kulfi for desert. The friendly owner speaks good English and will make recommendations.

– Recommendation for Dcristal Alusistem, Velez Malaga.
First, a thank you to Digamextra, we have searched for someone who could re-net our oversized terrace mosquito screens, when I googled an old digamextra post from 2017 came up, and the company was still operating!
I phoned them, sent them a photo, no problems they said, they came, took the screens easily (others had given up at that point!) took them away, re-netted them and returned them in a couple of days. Their price was very reasonable and Jose is lovely, friendly and speaks some English. Thoroughly recommend them.

ANDALUCIA

The heat wave in Andalusia continues throughout the week with highs of 45 degrees Celsius: {Translation}
– The heat wave that began in Andalusia at the end of last week will continue for at least the next seven days, with maximum temperatures that could reach 45 degrees on Thursday, and there will also be a strong easterly wind in the Cadiz area.
– Temperatures will rise slightly throughout this week, with clear skies, until Friday, when they will begin to fall, although they could still reach 38 and 40 degrees.
– Specifically, the Territorial Delegate of Aemet in Andalusia, Juan de Dios del Pino, has told Europa Press that a strong anticyclone in the area of Portugal causes temperatures to rise in the community, both maximum and minimum.
– Specifically, the peak will arrive between Wednesday and Friday, when temperatures could reach 45 degrees during the day and 26 at night. This situation is also influenced by the fact that the days are very long, while the nights are very short, leaving no time “for temperatures to drop”. This situation will continue until Friday, when they will begin to fall, although “very little” because “we will not drop below 42 degrees”. The heat wave will last all week, he said.
– Finally, the situation of the Costa del Sol, with its microclimate, and some areas of the coast of Huelva, will maintain temperatures of around 30 degrees. As for the wind, strong easterly winds are expected this Monday afternoon in the area of the Strait of Gibraltar, with very strong gusts, and will continue throughout the week. Occasional very strong gusts of wind will also be experienced on the southern coast of Almería from Tuesday onwards. COSTA DEL SOL

Jellyfish warning on the western beaches of the Costa del Sol:
On Sunday, the Aula del Mar marine observatory reported large concentrations of the invertebrates between Marbella and Manilva, and especially in Estepona, where the alert level was high. Additionally, few days ago, the Costa del Sol registered reports of swarms of Pelagia noctiluca in municipalities such as Mijas, as well as occasional specimens of Rhizostomas luteum in several coastal municipalities. NERJA

The deadline to apply for the VI Municipal Housing Rehabilitation Programme in Nerja is now open: {Translation}
– The deadline for submitting applications for the VI Municipal Housing Rehabilitation Programme will remain open until 22 July.
– This programme is aimed at families in the municipality with limited financial resources to carry out renovations to their homes. “It will allow subsidies of 75% of the budget of the work, which may not exceed 12,000 euros. The Town Hall will subsidise up to 9,000 euros and the beneficiary will contribute 25%”, explained Nieves Atencia, who also emphasised that the Town Hall will subsidise the Urban Development Inspection Tax and the Construction, Installations and Works Tax (ICIO), which will be free of charge for the beneficiaries.
– Interested parties should submit the application together with the required documentation through the Town Hall’s Registry Office or at the Electronic Headquarters, where the call for applications can also be consulted. For more information, please contact the Town Planning Department or the Municipal Citizen’s Advice Bureau. ALMERIA

Two new outbreaks of Newcastle disease confirmed on Andalusian chicken farms: The Junta de Andalucía’s Ministry of Agriculture, Farming, Fishing and Sustainable Development has announced that two more outbreaks of Newcastle disease have been detected on chicken farms in Huércal-Overa, in Almeria province. Both farms are within a three-kilometre radius of the one where the first outbreak was found on 29 June. One has approximately 9,980 chickens and the other has 26,900. EUROPE

Europe recommends a fourth Covid jab for the over-60s now, and proposes a fifth in the autumn: The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) have recommended starting the administration of the second booster dose of a Covid vaccine to people over 60 years of age and vulnerable people of any age, as well as proposing a fifth jab in the autumn.
– The ECDC and EMA argue that those over 60 and the vulnerable “remain at the highest risk of severe illness.” “Mathematical models suggest the clear benefits of a second booster dose to protect people over 60 years of age,” the organisations added.
– However, they do not support administering the fourth dose to health workers or people who work in care facilities such as nursing homes, since the two bodies consider that it “offers only limited benefits due to little and rapidly decreasing protection against infection and the spread”. – The affected batch numbers are: 2022012001, 2022011301 and 2022011501. The product, with reference number A606201, is manufactured by Anbio (Xiamen) Biotechnology Co., Ltd. Bio Beach Restaurant- El Morche: Thursday, July 14th, 2022 is “Bastille Day!” The Bio Beach Restaurant honors the French on their Day of Independence when the French people stormed the Bastille Prison in 1789 demanding constitutional reforms from the King Louis XVI.
If interested, here are mini slices of history. Did you know the following four details about this French national event?
1) The French revolution gave us the metric system and almost gave us metric clocks, too. They had 10 hours in the day, 10 days in the week, and 30 days each month.
2) General Bernardo Galvez, born in Macharaviaya, Andalucia, was a hero of the American Revolutionary War.
3) Lafayette, also a hero of the American Revolutionary War, ordered the destruction of the Bastille, a symbol of feudal injustices. He sends the key of the Bastille as a souvenir to General Washington at Mount Vernon where it is displayed today.
4) In July 1789, the Flag of France is created. The 3 colors symbolize the values of the French Revolution: liberty, equality, brotherhood, democracy, secularism, and modernization. In the former regime, Blue symbolized nobility, white/clergy, Red/bourgeois.
– The Bio Beach Restaurant features the French Flag as well as refreshing drinks for hot summer days, on their attractive terrace overlooking the sea! Why not try their “Cafe Frappe” pictured here? The Bio Beach Restaurant is located on the El Morche beachfront promenade right behind the church. We look forward to seeing you there! For more info contact norma2kk@aol.com

Amazon collection point: Can anybody tell me where the Amazon collection point is in El Morche? Google shows the farmacia (closed today so I couldn’t ask) and the shop next door which closed and for sale. Since they changed the numbers everything is messed up. I suspect it might be the tobacconists or the Info Centre. Anybody know? Carole, El Morche

Dutch police ‘open fire’ on furious tractor drivers as farmers stage huge protests nationwide: The protests were sparked by plans to cut farms’ fertiliser use and livestock by up to 70 percent. The Dutch Government claims the cuts are necessary to slash emissions of nitrogen oxide and ammonia by 50 percent by 2030. These cuts could force most farms in the Netherlands to close. Ministers have called the plan “unavoidable” and have warned that many farmers may have to shutter their businesses.
– A statement released by the Government said: ”The honest message is that not all farmers will continue in business. Those who do will have to farm differently. ”Farmers, in response, have staged massive protests blocking supermarkets, distribution centres, border crossings, and even an airport. The farmers claim that they are being treated unfairly while other industries, like aviation and transport, are allowed to continue polluting.
– In the video, a tractor pulls onto the road in the direction of several police vehicles. As the tractor passes the police vehicles, an officer appears to draw his weapon and fire two shots directly into the side of the tractor being driven by a 16 year old boy. Police later confirmed that officers had fired upon tractor-riding protesters but that no one had been injured. Photo: Getty. Shock As 4chan Allegedly Cracks Hunter Biden’s iCloud Account And Leaks Everything – We Have Exclusive Photos & Screenshots After 4Chan Took Down The Content:
– RUMOURS circulating on social media on Sunday, July 10 suggest that 4chan, an anonymous English-language imageboard website, has apparently cracked Hunter Biden’s iPhone backup password and has begun leaking everything on their website.
– Senior Editor of Human Events, Jack Posobiec revealed that “4chan has already created (file-sharing) torrents for the Hunter Biden iPhone and iCloud backups and are now seeding them.” So the data is now public and can’t be withdrawn.
(There are a couple of things to keep in mind here: 1) It’s 4chan so always take anything from that community with several grains of salt, and, 2) It IS Hunter Biden we’re talking about here so it’s entirely possible they were able to hack into his iCloud account. I’ve seen some of the disturbing content already. It includes President Joe Biden’s private phone numbers and private messages to Hunter, and hundreds, and possibly thousands, of previously unseen photos of Hunter’s drug use and twisted sexual activities, lending credibility to the photos previously found on Hunter’s “mis-placed” laptop. Hunter & Joe Biden are national security risks, easily blackmailed with the contents of Hunter’s laptops and phones that have fallen into investigator’s hands. If Joe Biden, whos shady oil sales to Ukrainian companies where his son was a major investor are finally being exposed in the mainstream media, had an ounce of self respect, he would resign. Boris Johnson is an angel compared to the Bidens, and he did resign. -Ed.)
