Halting Erosion Using Vetiver Grass from Vetiver Spain:
Vetiver Grass is a fast growing non-invasive clumping grass that grows to 2 metres in height. It has a root system that grows to 3-4 metres deep and they are very strong.
The National Geographic Magazine has called them “Roots of Steel”.
Once Vetiver is established it is drought resistant.
We are located in Sayalonga and we can plant all year round but February and March are the best months to plant Vetiver. Vetiver loves the heat of a long summer to get established.
Decomposing Vetiver used as a mulch, improves soil quality, keeps the weeds down and the insects away as it is a natural insect repellent. It is in the same family as Lemon Grass, which we also carry.
Vetiver also is a nutritious and replenishable animal feed. Horses, cattle, and pigs love it.
We use Vetiver along driveways and sidewalks. It also makes a great and inexpensive Ornamental hedge.

SPAIN

The price of electricity will drop 22.6% tomorrow with the new mechanism that limits the cost of gas:
-The average price of electricity resulting from the new mechanism that limits the cost of gas used for electricity generation will be 165.59 euros per megawatt hour (MWh) for tomorrow (Wednesday), which represents a reduction of 22.6% compared to 214.05 euros per MWh today in the wholesale market.
-Those 165.59 euros, the lowest price since May 29, will be the reference to determine the regulated rates or pvpc that will begin to apply from 0:00 on Wednesday. The 10.07 million customers who have regulated rates will automatically benefit from them. Subsequently, they will be applied to free market contracts (normally one year long) as they are renewed.
-This system, which is being applied today for the first time and which had been proposed by the governments of Spain and Portugal, was authorized by the European Council on March 25 and definitively approved by Brussels on the 8th of this month, despite the fact that The Sánchez Executive repeated that it would be in force in April or early May.
-Despite the aforementioned decrease of 22.6% compared to today, the truth is that tomorrow’s price is much more expensive than that of the same day last year (90.95 euros). Sources indicate that work was being carried out on a road with a machine that, by moving the rocks, could have caused a spark to fly that started the fire. EUROPE

The European Parliament rejects that nuclear energy is qualified as green: The proposal for nuclear energy and gas to be considered sustainable in the European Union (EU) received a severe setback in the European Parliament on Tuesday. The initiative of the Community Executive received the ‘no’ from the Committee on the Environment and the Committee on Economic Affairs, with 76 votes against, 62 in favor and four abstentions, which is a first step to knock it down. It will be the plenary session of the European Parliament, which will be held between July 4 and 7, which will have the last word on the norm. HEALTH

Gov’t sends its law to Congress to prioritize the public management of health, eliminate co-payments, and expand the rights of the population not covered by current services: The Spanish Government, after approving it in the Council of Ministers on Tuesday, sends its bill to prioritize public health management, eliminate co-payments for vulnerable groups and close bureaucratic channels to exclude immigrants from the system. The Government recognizes that its universal health decree does not work and prepares another law to guarantee the assistance of undocumented immigrants.
The articles, according to the Ministry of Health, seek to “guarantee homogeneity in the effectiveness of the right to health protection and expand the rights of the population currently not included.” This should include foreigners regardless of whether they are in a regular or irregular administrative situation in Spain.

SPACE

A long solar flare just erupted from the sun and the video is stunning:
– Earth’s star unleashed a long-duration solar flare early this morning, blasting high-energy radiation into space for about three hours. NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO), which has been studying the sun from Earth orbit since 2010, observed the dramatic event in multiple wavelengths.
– The flare registered as an M3.4, putting it in the “medium” class of solar outburst. It was strong enough, however, to cause temporary radio blackouts in the Asia-Pacific region here on Earth. (Scientists put powerful solar flares into three categories, C, M and X, with C being the weakest and X the most intense.)

SPAIN

AUTONOMO UPDATE – Ministry of Social Security has presented a new offer of tax quotas for the self-employed – rejected by labor groups:
-The latest approach slightly lowers the minimum quota, slightly increases the highest quota for workers with higher earnings and proposes lower amounts for the so-called intermediate sections. -Specifically, the Ministry has proposed a minimum amount of 245 euros per month, five euros less than the last rate proposed, on May 30. For the highest income bracket, it proposes a monthly fee of 565 euros per month, 15 euros more than in the last document.
-The quotas proposed by the Ministry continue to leave the contribution of self-employed workers below what wage earners with similar earnings contribute.
-ATA, the self-employed organisation of the CEOE, has already said that it considers these terms “unacceptable”, while the progressive labor organisations UATAE and UPTA are more supportive of the proposal.
-From UATAE, an association of freelancers linked to CCOO, they still expect “a greater effort to reduce the quota for those who need it most.” “Those who are starting out from the lowest level have to face a very high percentage of tax and we believe that in this line from Social Security they have to make a greater effort”, they explain in the organization led by M José Landaburu. Regarding the benefit for cessation of activity, in UATAE they consider that “there is a good intention, but clearly it must be improved because with some of the demanded requirements it will limit access to it”. ANDALUCIA ELECTIONS 2022 – 19 June, 2022

Andalucia Parliament Elections Polls- Seville would stop being ‘red’ (Socialist) for the first time in the history of democracy & conservative PP are winning by a landslide in Malaga 9 seats to 4: {Translation}
-Seville, the great bastion of the Andalusian PSOE, is crumbling. The only province where it has won all the elections (general, regional, municipal and European) since the beginning of democracy is on the way to overturning the electoral statistics. The survey conducted by GAD3 for ABC puts the Andalusian PP ahead of the socialists in voting intentions for the first time, turning blue a map that has traditionally been painted red.
-The loss of socialist hegemony for 37 years in a province where the right has never won before exemplifies the end of a cycle. The PP would go from having three seats in 2018 to taking seven – the three of Ciudadanos and one more – of the 18 seats in the Andalusian Parliament that are up for grabs in the most populated constituency.
-It would be one ahead of the PSOE, which repeats with six deputies, while the left-wing amalgam would pay for its split by losing half of its deputies (one for Por Andalucía and another for Adelante Andalucía). Vox gains one representative, going from two to three.
-In the province of Seville the right has never won before, but on 19-J it could break with this electoral tradition.
The case of Seville is paradigmatic, but the reality is that the PP would win in all eight provinces. They would do so even in Huelva and Jaén, where the PSOE has beaten them in all the regional elections, although in the 2011 general elections, unlike in Seville, the PP won.
-In Malaga, where in the 2018 elections they tied on four seats, the conservative PP are winning by a landslide: double those of the PSOE (9-4). It also extends its lead in Granada (7-4) and Almería (6-3). In the rest of the provinces, the Populars won six and the Socialists four. A turnaround of historic proportions. How the president of the Junta is elected after the Andalusia 2022 elections June 19th: {Translation}
-After the Andalusian elections on Sunday 19 June, the next president of the Junta de Andalucía will be elected from among the candidates who have been officially proclaimed. However, the reality is not exactly like that. The votes cast at the polls elect the 109 deputies who will form part of the Andalusian Parliament in the 12th Legislature, and it is they who will elect the president of the Junta, in the same way as the president of the Government.
-After the elections, the Andalusian Parliament will be constituted on 14 July, marking the beginning of the 12th Legislature in Andalusia. On that day, the new deputies elected by the Andalusians will take office, and it is already known that there will be many new faces, since more than half of those who have been working until now will not be taking part in these elections.
-From that date onwards, negotiations will begin in the political parties to set the administrative machinery in motion.
-For a candidate to be elected president of the Junta, he or she must obtain an absolute majority in the first ballot. In other words, of the 109 members of parliament, 55 must vote in favour of his or her candidacy. If this absolute majority is not achieved (which is more than foreseeable given what the polls say), a second vote will take place 48 hours after the first one.
-In this second vote, the candidate for the Presidency must obtain a simple majority of the House. In other words, more yeses than noes for his or her candidacy. This means that the abstention of the parliamentary groups has an important value because if a majority group abstains, the candidate who obtains the most votes in favour will win.
*Repeat elections*
-After the second ballot, as many ballots as necessary may be held, but if within two months no candidate obtains the necessary majority, the regional elections will have to be repeated.
-This system in Andalusia is similar to that in Catalonia and other historical regions, but not to that in other regions such as Madrid or Castile-La Mancha, where the candidate who has obtained the most votes in the elections is elected president, even if he or she does not obtain the majority support of the House.
*What the Statute says*
-This system is set out in the Statute of Autonomy for Andalusia, specifically in article 118.3
“Article 118. Election and responsibility before the courts.
1. The President of the Junta shall be elected by Parliament from among its members.
2. The President of Parliament, after consulting the Spokespersons designated by the political parties or groups with parliamentary representation, shall propose a candidate for President of the Junta.
3. The candidate shall present his or her programme to Parliament. To be elected, the candidate must, in the first ballot, obtain an absolute majority. If he fails to obtain an absolute majority, a new ballot shall be held forty-eight hours after the previous ballot, and confidence shall be deemed to have been granted if he obtains a simple majority in the second or subsequent ballots.
-If this majority is not obtained, successive proposals shall be processed in the manner provided for above. If, two months after the first ballot, no candidate has obtained a simple majority, Parliament shall be automatically dissolved and new elections shall be called by the Acting President of the Junta. Russia Seizes Severodonetsk Center as Ukraine War Turns in Putin’s Favor: Russian troops forced Ukraine’s units out of central Severodonetsk, a strategically vital city in Ukraine’s east, the Ukrainian military said on Monday as Putin’s forces increasingly press forward in the Donbas region. Putin’s troops are pushing to capture the city, as well as Lysychansk; doing so would place all of Luhansk under Russian control and grant Russian President Vladimir Putin a form of military victory. The Russian leader, who launched the Ukraine war on February 24, appears to now be focused on capturing Ukraine’s Luhansk and Donetsk regions in full. Germany moves ahead with plan to legalize cannabis sales + other new liberalization policies:
-The German government is setting in motion plans to legalize the sale of cannabis for recreational purposes, aiming to have legislation ready later this year. The pledge to legalize controlled sales of cannabis to adults in licensed shops is one of a series of reforms outlined in last year’s coalition deal between the three socially liberal parties that make up Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s government.
-Among other liberalizing plans, the government has launched a drive to remove from Germany’s criminal code a ban on doctors “advertising” abortion services. It also wants to ease the path to German citizenship, lift restrictions on dual citizenship and reduce the minimum age for voting in national and European elections from 18 to 16.
-The government also wants to scrap 40-year-old legislation that requires transsexual people to get a psychological assessment and a court decision before officially changing gender, a process that often involves intimate questions. It is due to be replaced with a new “self-determination law.” Full article: https://apnews.com/article/health-business-germany-olaf-scholz-74417f8961981b00917eff0b23a4644b

Travelers No Longer Need To Test Negative For Covid To Fly Into US: The Covid testing requirement ended June 12 at 12:01 a.m. Those crossing into the U.S. by land or by seaport already face no testing requirements. The CDC still recommends that travelers boarding a flight to the U.S. get tested as close to the time of departure as possible, meaning no more than three days before leaving. The agency says those who are sick shouldn’t travel.

Google suspends engineer who claims its Artificial Intellegence (AI) is sentient: Google has placed one of its engineers on paid administrative leave for allegedly breaking its confidentiality policies after he grew concerned that an AI chatbot system had achieved sentience, the Washington Post reports. The engineer, Blake Lemoine, works for Google’s Responsible AI organization, and was testing whether its LaMDA model generates discriminatory language or hate speech.
-The engineer’s concerns reportedly grew out of convincing responses he saw the AI system generating about its rights and the ethics of robotics. In April he shared a document with executives titled “Is LaMDA Sentient?” containing a transcript of his conversations with the AI (after being placed on leave, Lemoine published the transcript via his Medium account), which he says shows it arguing “that it is sentient because it has feelings, emotions and subjective experience.” Full article: https://www.theverge.com/2022/6/13/23165535/google-suspends-ai-artificial-intelligence-engineer-sentient

FINANCIAL

Markets tumble worldwide, bear market growls on Wall Street:
-The pain was worldwide as investors braced for more aggressive moves from a coterie of central banks.
-In Asia, indexes fell at least 3% in Seoul, Tokyo and Hong Kong. Stocks there were also hurt by worries about COVID-19 infections in China, which could push authorities to resume tough, business-slowing restrictions.
-In Europe, Germany’s DAX lost 2.2%, and the French CAC 40 fell 2.3%. The FTSE 100 in London dropped 1.3%.
-Some of the biggest hits came for cryptocurrencies, which soared early in the pandemic when record-low interest rates encouraged investors to bid up the riskiest investments. Bitcoin tumbled another 14% and dropped below $23,400, according to Coindesk. It’s back to where it was in late 2020 and down from a peak of $68,990 late last year.
-On Wall Street, the S&P 500 was 20.9% below its record set early this year. If it finishes the day more than 20% that high, it would officially enter what investors call a bear market. Full article: https://apnews.com/article/stock-market-today-june-13-974e78ed90b690bbeeb39afda8c8d72d

Recommendations & Requests

Recommendation for Car Clean Malaga: Fancy giving your dusty, chipped & less than perfectly shiny car a spa day treatment? Then speak to Warren at Car Clean Malaga. He couldn’t make it any easier. He will come to your house or flat to discuss the work and give you a quote. Then he will leave you a courtesy car whilst he takes yours away. He gives you regular updates with photos, then returns the car to you looking amazing. He even cleans up ‘fogged’ headlights which can cause a problem at ITV. You won’t find a better service or a nicer guy to deal with than Warren.

Recommendation – Buddha House: A friend and I have just had a lovely lunch at Buddha House restaurant in El Penoncillo, Torrox Costa. We didn’t want a full meal but chose a selection of starters which were all extremely tasty. Sitting outside in the sunshine with a glass of vino was a lovely way to pass the afternoon. Highly recommended. (Photo:tripadvisor.co.uk)

Federation of Transport Employers Threatens Another Transport Sector Stoppage Over Fuel Prices: {Translation, summary}
-The unstoppable rise in fuel prices is heating up tempers in the transport sector, which is considering a stoppage. Although “everything indicates” that the Spanish government is going to extend the 20 cents per litre subsidy until September (which in theory ends on 30 June), the aid has already fallen short.
-“The 20 cent bonuses have been eaten by price increases. We are at the same point as two months ago,” says the president of the Federation of Transport Employers (FET), Agustín Espino, which ensures that the sector is in an “unsustainable” situation. He considers that the public administrations should get involved and set a “ceiling” on the prices of professional diesel, since the upward escalation of prices does not seem to have an end. “The 20 cents have been a trap. Now we are as if there had been no bonus. The Government must set a ceiling on prices so that the sector has peace of mind, “says Espino, who assures that the sector needs fuel for its activity and cannot continue in this situation.
“Either the sector is helped or we are going to have to stop because this is unaffordable”, referring to the situation which ensures that truck drivers are losing money going to work.
-“The Government must get involved with this sector, because if they don’t, we will have to stop,” says Espino. As he explains, negotiating contracts today, for example with the tourism sector for the summer, it is very difficult due to fluctuations in fuel prices. “If you contract at the current price you can lose money due to the upward escalation of prices…we do not know how far it will go,” he says.

Torrox Forest Fire Saturday 11June Extinguished: {Translation} 12 June 2022, 9:20
-The Forest Fire Extinction Service (Infoca) reported Saturday that the fire in Torrox (pic) had been brought under control. In a coordinated service between the entity and the Provincial Consortium of Firefighters, it was possible to stop the fire in a matter of hours after it broke out.
-The fire in the area was declared at around two o’clock in the afternoon. At around seven o’clock in the evening, the fire crews confirmed that the fire was under control and in the last hours of the day they reported that it had been extinguished. Firefighters from both Nerja and Vélez-Málaga were also deployed to the scene. Experts say that about ten hectares of land have been burnt.
-The still active but stabilised fire in Sierra Bermeja has already burnt 3,500 hectares. Firefighters are still working to extinguish the main hot spots. Photo:SUR. The Queen breaks another royal milestone as she becomes the second longest reigning monarch in history: The Queen is now the second longest reigning Monarch in recorded history. Her rule has now reached 70 years and 126 days, equalling the reign of King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand.
-Her latest historic milestone comes just a week after Her Majesty became the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee.
-Elizabeth II became Queen on February 6th 1952. On September 9th 2015, she became the longest reigning monarch in British history, overtaking the record set by her great, great grandmother, Queen Victoria.
-Bhumibol Adulyadej ruled Thailand from November 9th June 1946 until October 13th 2016.
-The Queen has to wait for another two years until she becomes the longest reigning monarch of all time, surpassing the reign of King Louis XIV of France which ran from May 14th 1643 until September 1st 1715 – a total of 72 years and 110 days. All being well, Her Majesty will overtake this milestone in May 2024 aged 98. HEALTH

The WHO Pandemic Treaty- Member Countries Will Turn Over Ultimate Authority On Health Matters To The WHO This Autumn:
-Among other powers, the new Pandemic Treaty will give WHO Director Tedros and the WHO the power to require vaccine passports and COVID vaccines worldwide. They are working on creating a global digital identity/vaccine passport program. Under the new “Pandemic Treaty”, when WHO health policies harm people, there is no accountability. The WHO has diplomatic immunity.
-Former WHO employee and whistleblower Astrid Stuckelberger, now a scientist at the Institute for Global Health at the University of Geneva School of Medicine, noted that “if member states adopt the new Pandemic Treaty, “ this means that the Constitution (according to article 9) of the WHO will prevail over the constitution of each country during natural disasters or pandemics. In other words, the WHO will be dictating to other countries, it will no longer make recommendations.”
-The WHO Director-General would have ultimate power under the new rules, to determine, for example, whether Brazil, Germany or the US should impose a Shanghai-style pandemic lockdown or any other measure he decides. This is not OK.

Famed jazz pianist Fred Hersch: Live at Museo Picasso Málaga
At the MPM Auditorium on Saturday 2 July at 20:00, in his only concert in Andalusia.
The prestigious magazine All About Jazz states that “when it comes to the art of solo piano in jazz, there are two kinds of performers: Fred Hersch and everyone else”, for as versatile and exploratory as his trio and duo excursions are, nowhere is his limitless range and emotional diversity more evident than in his solo performances, such as the one he will be performing at the Museo Picasso Málaga.

COVID

Covid Malaga- Malaga has 93 hospitalised with Covid, the lowest number in six months: {Translation, summary} 10June22 14:16
-The pandemic is not over, but for now, the pressure is easing. The province of Malaga has recorded the lowest number of hospitalisations in the last six months. However, according to Friday’s report five more deaths from the virus are registered.
-Not since the beginning of December last year have such positive figures been recorded in terms of admissions. On the 6th of that month, 90 people were hospitalised with the infection. Now, six months later, the number of patients in hospital has again fallen below 100. As of 10 June, 93 patients had been admitted, five of them to an ICU.
-Covid’s provincial rate is slightly higher than last Tuesday. Then it was 254.7 cases in people over 60 years of age, while now it is 262.3. In the city of Malaga, it stands at 275.0. In any case, given that a large part of the population is no longer being tested – many times the pathology is treated as a cold – the incidence is actually higher. However, the relatively low number of hospitalisations indicates that the pandemic is, at least for the time being, under control. MONKEYPOX

Malaga triples confirmed cases of monkeypox, and now totalling nine: {Translation, 1st 3 paragraphs} 10June22 13:51
-Cases of monkeypox in the province of Malaga have tripled since last Tuesday. From three reported in the previous report of the Consejería de Salud y Familias, this Friday there are now nine cases confirmed by the tests of the Centro Nacional de Microbiología (National Microbiology Centre).
-According to the health administration, this Friday there are 18 confirmed cases in the autonomous community: 9 in Malaga plus 5 in Seville, 1 in Cadiz, 2 in Granada and 1 in Jaen. In addition, 10 cases are under investigation (1 probable and 9 suspected). Of these ten, eight are in the province of Malaga, one in Granada and one in Cadiz. On the other hand, 42 cases have been declared to the Andalusian Epidemiological Surveillance System Network (SVEA).
-The Regional Minister of Health, Jesús Aguirre, reported that the 18 confirmed cases “are at home, with a mild clinical evolution, many of them asymptomatic, and some of them have already been discharged from the hospital”. For this reason, he added that “we should not be concerned” about the pathology, although he insisted that “we must take the necessary precautions to avoid these contacts and be as protected as possible”. SPAIN

Drivers who will not be paying road tolls from 2024 onwards: {Translation}
-Following the government’s announcement that Spanish motorways and dual carriageways will be toll roads from 2024, there is no shortage of car and vehicle users who are wondering whether there will be exceptions that will allow them to drive freely on them. The head of the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT), Pere Navarro, has explained that there are indeed a number of cases in which circulation will be free.
-Although he insists that the model to be implemented will be based on “affordable fares” (which have not yet been defined), certain circumstances will be toll-free, meaning that users in these cases will not be affected by the new charging system on Spain’s high-capacity network.
-Which cases will be exempted? Specifically, there are three cases excluded from the charges for using Spain’s motorways and dual carriageways:
– Journeys to and from work
– Journeys to and from the study centre
– Journeys for medical reasons.
Thus, whatever the cost of using high-capacity roads, those who have to use them daily (or at any other frequency) to travel to their workplace or place of study will not have to pay.
-In addition to these daily journeys, those who have to go to a hospital or health centre for any kind of medical consultation or intervention will not have to pay either.
-Pere Navarro argues the establishment of these quotas or tariffs to guarantee the maintenance of roads without overburdening those who do not use them: “We cannot charge the State budget for the conservation and maintenance of motorways and dual carriageways and make the poor granny who receives a pension, who does not even have a car, pay for the conservation and maintenance of high-speed roads”. WEEKEND RECIPE

Fryer-Free Flamenquín: The traditional recipe of flamenquín is made with pieces of Serrano ham or smoked pork shoulder, and often cheese, rolled into a pork loin, then egg-washed and bread crumbed and the last step, you deep-fried it. Over the years, new flamenquín recipes have been developed using different ingredients. For a Mexican twist, add hot-pepper cheese and pickled jalapeño slices.
Since we try to minimize consumption of fried foods for health reasons, here is a flamenquín which is lighter since it’s not deep-fried but baked, and with chicken breasts substituted for pork loin. It’s a bit different from the traditional, but equally tasty. Photo:IKO. Full recipe with step by step photos: https://cookingwithiko.com/flamenquin/

In search of the friendliness gene that turned wolves into dogs:
-In a double experiment published in Scientific Reports, Nagsawa and his team observed that ancient Japanese dog breeds–which are closer to primitive wolf-dogs than modern breeds are–had diminished capacities of responding to signals from humans. After examining the genetics of over 600 dogs, the scientists found that some had a distinctive quality related to the production of cortisol, a stress hormone.
-Over email, Nagasawa explains that the results support the hypothesis that some of those early dogs had genetic mutations that allowed them to experience less stress when in contact with humans. That allowed the beginnings of the interactions that turned into friendship. “Even though it’s still not clear whether cortisol, a stress marker, is lower in dogs than in wolves, it can give us clues about how canine tolerance and the ability to adapt to human society was developed,” the researcher explains. Bad News For Fuel Prices Due To PM Sanchez Siding With Morocco Over Western Sahara Issues- Algeria ends 2-decade friendship treaty with Spain:
-The Algerian president’s office announced Wednesday that the North African nation was “immediately” suspending a two-decade-old friendship treaty with Spain.
-It was the latest blow to increasingly wobbly relations between Algiers and Madrid, which depends on Algeria for a large part of its natural gas supply.
-Tensions have soared in a complex three-way dispute after Spain gave its backing to Morocco’s position over the disputed territory of Western Sahara. Algeria backs the Polisario independence movement in the region, which rejects Morocco’s annexation of Western Sahara. The Polisario are encamped in southern Algeria.
-The statement from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s office cited what it said was the “unjustifiable turnaround” in March on Spain’s position, amounting to a “fait accompli using fallacious arguments.” It said Spain has since campaigned “to justify” its position.
-In 2021, Algeria’s Sonatrach furnished Spain with more than 40% of its imported natural gas, most brought in via the underwater Medgaz pipeline. Another supply route to Spain was via the Maghreb Europe pipeline that passes through Morocco but that was shut off after the August break in diplomatic ties between Algeria and Morocco. In recent months the United States has taken over as Spain’s top natural gas supplier.

Traffic announces a new license for 16-year-olds to drive electric vehicles up to 90 km/h + More DGT Rule Changes:
-The Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, together with the director of the DGT, Pere Navarro, has announced a new B-1 driving license from the age of 16 for electric vehicles that reach a maximum speed of 90 kilometers/hour and maximum weight of 400 kilograms. Until now these vehicles could only be driven with a B permit, but with this measure, which is already being applied in France with good results, the aim is to promote electric vehicles and the mobility of the youngest in rural areas.
-The measure is included in the 2030 Road Safety Strategy presented this Thursday, and in addition to it, the General Directorate of Traffic has announced that it will promote driving tests with cars with automatic transmission, will require compulsory civil liability insurance among owners of scooters and will shorten the license renewal periods for older drivers. Europe’s largest meat-eating dinosaur found on Isle of Wight: Fossilized bones discovered on a rocky seashore on England’s Isle of Wight are the remains of a meat-eating dinosaur that may be larger than any other known from Europe, a beast that was a cousin of the biggest carnivorous dinosaur species on record.
-Paleontologists said on Thursday they have found parts of the skeleton of the dinosaur, which lived about 125 million years ago during the Cretaceous Period, including bones of the back, hips and tail, some limb fragments but no skull or teeth. Based on the partial remains, they estimated that the dinosaur was in the family of spinosaurs, it exceeded 33 feet (10 meters) long and perhaps reached much more. It may even be a T-Rex, but more skull and teeth need to be discovered to confirm that.
-Spinosaurs had elongated skulls reminiscent of crocodiles with lots of conical teeth – perfect for grasping slippery prey – as well as strong arms and big claws. They fed upon aquatic prey as well as other dinosaurs. Artists rendition uncredited. The European Parliament has endorsed a ban on the sale of new cars with internal combustion engines from 2035, as part of its decarbonisation commitment: The European Union assembly voted in Strasbourg, France, in favour of a motion that will require carmakers to cut carbon-dioxide emissions by 100 per cent by the middle of the next decade.
-The legislation is part of the ‘Fit for 55’ package, which includes the ban of combustion-engine cars from 2035 and a 55 per cent reduction in CO2 from vehicles in 2030 compared with 2021. The move deepens an existing obligation on the car industry to lower CO2 discharges by 37.5 per cent on average at the end of the decade compared to last year.
-Although the measure still needs to be confirmed by the European Council, the parliamentary vote was considered as the most crucial step in the approval process. Full article: https://eandt.theiet.org/content/articles/2022/06/eu-votes-to-ban-internal-combustion-engine-cars-from-2035/

Snoop Dogg Gives His Full-Time Blunt Roller A Raise Amid Inflation – ‘Their Salary Went Up!’: Snoop first spilled the beans about hiring a personal blunt roller during an episode of “The Howard Stern Show”. When Stern asked Snoop if he specifically hired someone to roll blunts for him, the musician didn’t hesitate to confirm: “That’s his J-O-B, his occupation. On his résumé, it says, ’What do you do? I’m a blunt roller. P-B-R, professional blunt roller,” he told the host.
After the Twitter account UberFacts tweeted on Monday, “Snoop Dogg employs a full-time blunt roller who makes between $40,000 and $50,000 a year,” the West Coast lyricist swiftly stepped in to share an update. “Inflation. Their salary went up!!” he wrote. Full article: https://news.yahoo.com/snoop-dogg-gives-full-time-224015073.html

Golf News- PGA Tour indefinitely suspends any current, future golfers in LIV Golf Invitational Series: In a memo to membership early Thursday, the PGA Tour announced that any current and future players in the LIV Golf Invitational Series are indefinitely suspended.
-The announcement came less than an hour after the rival league kicked off play Thursday at the Centurion Club outside London, with a 48-man field featuring a handful of PGA Tour stalwarts, including Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and Sergio Garcia.
-Commissioner Jay Monahan said that the 17 Tour players competing in the inaugural LIV event are in violation of the Tour’s tournament regulations, since the Tour did not grant conflicting-event releases.
-Any Tour players who compete in future LIV series events – Bryson DeChambeau has committed to the second event, June 30-July 2 in Oregon – will also be suspended.
-Johnson and Garcia were among those who resigned their tour membership. As a result, their names will be removed from the FedExCup points standings and they will not be allowed to receive sponsor exemptions as a non-member. Apple Anouncement- iOS 16 drops support for iPhone 7, iPhone 6S, and iPhone SE 1st Gen:
-SHOCKING news for those using 2015-2016 era iPhones! Apple just announced the info for iOS 16 update for iPhones, with some big changes to the phones. iOS 16 is easily one of the biggest updates we have ever seen over the last few years. From a new customisable lockscreen experience to new sharing features and more, there is a lot to look forward with the iOS 16 update. Sadly, that won’t be the case with several users of older iPhone models who were expecting extend the usage for another year.
-In the list of iPhone models that are not getting iOS 16, it was obvious to see the iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, and the iPhone SE 1st Gen model. These phones were running on the age-old A9 chipset and had enjoyed 6 years of software updates. Surprisingly, Apple also excluded the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus from the iOS 16 support list. Joining this list is also the Apple iPod Touch, which was recently discontinued. In short, all iPhone and iPod models running on the A9 and A10 Fusion platforms are no more supported.
-What should iPhone 6S/7 users do? With iOS 16 still a few months away from its stable release, there’s no need to panic yet. The iPhone 6S/7 with iOS 15 will be good enough until September, when Apple usually drops a new generation iPhone along with the new iOS version. Once iOS 16 is released, you should look for an upgrade to a newer iPhone model.
-The list of the devices that are getting the iOS 16 update this fall includes the following models:
– iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
– iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max
– iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max
– iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR
– iPhone X
– iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus
– iPhone SE 2nd Gen, iPhone SE 3rd Gen

Fakebook, now under the parent company Meta, Hit With 8 Suits Claiming Its Algorithms Hook Youth, Ruin Their Lives and Have Directly Caused Suicides:
-Facebook, is now a leader in another social media trend, lawsuits claiming the company built algorithms in its platforms that lure young people into destructive addiction.
-Eight complaints filed in courthouses across the US over the last week allege that excessive exposure to platforms including Facebook and Instagram has led to attempted or actual suicides, eating disorders and sleeplessness, among other issues.
-“These applications could have been designed to minimize potential harm, but instead, a decision was made to aggressively addict adolescents in the name of corporate profits,” attorney Andy Birchfield, a principal at Beasley Allen, the law firm that drafted the suits, said in a statement Wednesday.
-The complaints add to a spurt of recent cases against Meta and Snap Inc., including some filed by parents whose children took their own lives.
-The litigation follows a former Facebook employee’s high-profile testimony in Congress that the company refused to take responsibility for harming the mental health of its youngest users.

Another Reason To Quit Using Google’s Chrome Browser- New Malware Variant Stealing Users’ Credit Card Information from Google Chrome Exclusively:
-The notorious Emotet malware has turned to deploy a new module designed to siphon credit card information stored in the Chrome web browser.
-Emotet, attributed to a threat actor known as TA542 (aka Mummy Spider or Gold Crestwood), is an advanced, self-propagating and modular (arrives in pieces to avoid detection) trojan that’s delivered via email campaigns and is used as a distributor for other payloads such as ransomware.
-“Credential data is stored in Chrome’s memory in clear-text format,” CyberArk’s Zeev Ben Porat said. “In addition to data that is entered when signing into specific web applications, an attacker can cause the browser to load into memory all the passwords that are stored in the password manager.” This also includes cookie-related information such as session cookies, potentially allowing an attacker to extract the information and use it to hijack users’ accounts even when they are protected by multi-factor authentication. European Central Bank to raise interest rates for first time since 2011: The European Central Bank (ECB) plans to raise interest rates next month for the first time since 2011 after warning inflation would increase by more than previously estimated.
Resisting calls for a 0.5% increase next month, the ECB’s governing council said the base rate for the 19-member currency bloc would be raised by 0.25% with a further, and possibly larger increase scheduled for September. DGT Reminds Bicyclists: On board a bicycle it is only allowed to carry a passenger up to 7 years old, in an approved additional seat, as long as the driver is of legal age. Improperly carrying a child penalty of €100.

The OECD estimates that this year inflation will skyrocket to 8.1% in Spain: Until now there was a certain consensus among the different economic organizations that inflation would moderate in the second half of the year. However, the OECD points out that prices in Spain will end the year with a rate of no less than 8.1%, five points more than previously forecast. It is a figure similar to that marked by the CPI in the month of May (8.5%) after having fallen slightly from the record of 9.8% in March, according to data from the INE.
-In their new Economic Outlook report they calculate that Spanish inflation will be one of the highest in the eurozone: France will have 5.2 inflation this year, Germany 7.2%, Italy 6.3% and Portugal 6, 3%. Thus, the Spanish CPI will close the year, according to the OECD, well above the Government’s forecasts (around 6%) and even those of the Bank of Spain (7.5%). Junta warns of unusually high incidence of flu, out of season, and especially affecting children under 14: The Junta de Andalucía’s Minister of Health and Families, Jesús Aguirre, has warned that there is a high incidence of flu in the region at present, even though this is normally an illness which occurs in the winter, not the summer. The cumulative incidence rate of flu currently stands at 391, he said on Monday, which is higher than that for Covid, and many of the cases have been children under the age of 14. A declared forest fire in Pujerra sets off the alarms:
{Translation} 08 June, 2022 – 15:59h
-Infoca firefighters are working against a fire that has broken out in the municipality of Pujerra in an area of pine forest close to the boundaries where the great Sierra Bermeja fire broke out last year.
-Four transport and extinguishing helicopters, two Super Puma helicopters, two KAMOV helicopters, two ground loading planes, a coordination plane, six fire engines, three fire brigades, ten groups of forest fire fighters, an operations technician (TOP) and three environmental agents are already working in the area.
-The neighbours in the area have been alarmed, as the huge column of smoke that is rising at the moment can be seen from a large part of the Genal Valley and the coast. In fact, images of the column of smoke taken from different municipalities in this part of the Serranía de Ronda, which is one of the great green forrests of the Serranía de Ronda, have begun to circulate rapidly among some groups of local residents.
-Pujerra was one of the municipalities that was affected by the great Sierra Bermeja fire, with a front heading towards the town.

Brussels questions for the first time the “structure of the electricity market”:
-“Gas is the most expensive and defines the entire price. This market system no longer works. We have to reform it”, said the president of the European Commission. There is a new common sense in Brussels regarding the electricity market. For the first time since Spain promoted a year ago the idea of reforming a market that leads to the most expensive energy marking the price of the electricity bill at a time when gas is skyrocketing, the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has made a public plea, before the European Parliament, in favor of a reform that had not even been defended by the Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, or the ACER report itself, the European regulators, who prefer to defend the benefits of the status quo , no matter how much the status quo is increasingly difficult to sustain over time due to the prices of the electricity bill. Turkey says U.N. plan for Ukraine grain exports reasonable, Kyiv wary: Turkey’s foreign minister said on Wednesday a United Nations plan to ease a global food crisis by restarting Ukrainian grain exports along a sea corridor was “reasonable”, and required more talks with Moscow and Kyiv to ensure ships’ safety.
-Speaking alongside Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Turkey’s Mevlut Cavusoglu said their meeting in Ankara was fruitful, adding Turkey’s latest contacts and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s recent statements showed there may be a basis for a return to talks.
-But Ukraine’s ambassador to Turkey accused Russia of putting forward unrealistic proposals, such as checking vessels.
-Lavrov said the onus was on Ukraine to solve the grain shipments problem by clearing mines from its Black Sea ports and that Russia needed to take no action because it had already made the necessary commitments. New Treatments Battle Advanced Breast Cancers:
-Two “smart bomb” drugs are offering new hope to women with aggressive breast cancers, a pair of clinical trials show.
-Both medications are antibody-drug conjugates, consisting of a chemo drug that’s been wedded to an antibody that delivers the chemotherapy directly to cancer cells. “That’s a way to take the chemo right to the cancer cells and spare the rest of the body a lot of toxicity,” said Dr. Shanu Modi, a medical oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. “The antibody takes the chemo right to the cancer cells. When the antibody finds its target, the whole complex gets internalized into the cell, and then the chemo gets released inside the cancer cell.” Full article: https://www.usnews.com/news/health-news/articles/2022-06-06/new-treatments-battle-advanced-breast-cancers

FINANCIAL

Shrinkflation- The Hidden Inflation: It’s the inflation you’re not supposed to see. From toilet paper to yogurt and coffee to corn chips, manufacturers are quietly shrinking package sizes without lowering prices. It’s dubbed “shrinkflation,” and it’s accelerating worldwide.
-In the U.S., a small box of Kleenex now has 60 tissues; a few months ago, it had 65. Chobani Flips yogurts have shrunk from 5.3 ounces to 4.5 ounces. In the U.K., Nestle slimmed down its Nescafe Azera Americano coffee tins from 100 grams to 90 grams. In India, a bar of Vim dish soap has shrunk from 155 grams to 135 grams.
-Shrinkflation isn’t new, experts say. But it proliferates in times of high inflation as companies grapple with rising costs for ingredients, packaging, labor and transportation. Global consumer price inflation was up an estimated 7% in May, a pace that will likely continue through September, according to S&P Global. After Johnny Depp’s Court Victory, Brad Pitt Gives It A Go and Sues Angelina Jolie for “Inflicting Harm”:
-Pitt is suing his ex-wife for selling her stake in the French vineyard they bought together in 2008.
-Angelina Jolie “sought to inflict harm” on her former husband Brad Pitt when she sold her stake in their co-owned vineyard to a Russian oligarch, new legal documents have claimed.
-He said her decision to sell her share to a Russian oligarch forced him into partnership with “a stranger with poisonous associations and intentions”. Pitt says he and his former wife agreed not to sell their stakes in the venue without the permission of the other.
-In legal documents obtained by the PA news agency, it’s alleged that Jolie sold her share to to a Luxembourg-based spirits manufacturer controlled by Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler, without Pitt’s knowledge. Jolie has not yet publicly commented. Photo:PAMedia. Full article: https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-61716949

The Most Expensive Cities for Expats: Here’s the List:
-Hong Kong is once again the world’s most expensive city to live in for expats. New research from ECA International, which looked at the priciest cities for overseas workers, found cities in Asia made up half of the top 10 most expensive locations, including Hong Kong, Shanghai and Seoul.
-New York was second on the list after being fourth last year, with high inflation a key reason for its move higher. Geneva, London and Tokyo round out the top five.
-ECA, a consulting firm which has been researching cost-of-living data for 50 years, used the cost of different goods from coffee at a cafe to a pound of tomatoes as examples to show the difference in expenses among cities.
-One kilogram (2.2 pounds) of tomatoes, for example, was $11.51 in Hong Kong, compared with $6.55 in New York. One liter of milk in Hong Kong cost $4.39 compared with New York’s $2.36, ECA said.

ANDALUCIA

Andalucia Elections are Sunday, 19 June 2022 – Right-wing bloc slips back slightly in polls but still holds a clear majority: {Translation} 07/06/2022 15:52
-The new update of the compendium of electoral poll projections compiled by Electomania-EM and distributed exclusively by Porcentual.es, indicates a slight setback for the right-wing forces in Andalusia. PP and VOX are down in terms of the distribution of seats and would now have 46 and 19, respectively, one less than in the previous update of this compendium. Despite this small setback, both parties would have a very comfortable majority to form a government in Andalusia.
-The PSOE has a 26 per cent share of the vote, which would mean it would equal the result of the previous election, when it was the most voted party with 33 deputies. On the other hand, the other two left-wing forces have not managed to reach the previous result, so it seems clear that the splitting of the parties to the left of the PSOE will not produce good results.
-Juan Manuel Moreno Bonilla’s Partido Popular (PP) would be the clear winner of the elections with 35 percent of the vote and 46 seats, which would comfortably surpass all the representation achieved by the left-wing bloc. Ciudadanos, for its part, is still on the verge of being able to enter Parliament, although it would do so in a marginal way.
-In the compendium of Andalusian electoral polls, a map with the most likely results in each of Andalusia’s municipalities can also be found. In order to make this projection, the data from the polls is taken into account, as well as the available electoral behaviour and the votes obtained in the last two general elections, which took place in 2019.
-Thus, the PP would win in the eight provincial capitals of Andalusia. In general terms, the PSOE would be in the majority in the western area, while the PP would win in provinces such as Almería, Granada, Jaén, Málaga and Córdoba. Source, Spanish:

The agreement, which was signed on 30 May, sets out a series of proposals for modification, based on a study carried out by the University of Granada, which stresses that this rail connection would meet the objectives of sustainability, cohesion, efficiency, resilience and quality of transport in the region of the Costa Tropical as an area of the European Union. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson survives no-confidence vote:
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was meeting his Cabinet and trying to patch up his tattered authority on Tuesday after surviving a no-confidence vote that has left him a severely weakened leader. Johnson vowed to “get on with the job” and focus on “what matters to the British people”, defined as the economy, health care and crime, after Conservative Party lawmakers voted by 211 to 148 to support him as leader.
Johnson needed the backing of 180 of the 359 Conservative lawmakers in Monday’s secret ballot to stay in power.
Under party rules, Johnson is now free from another challenge for a year. But previous prime ministers who have faced no-confidence votes, including May and Margaret Thatcher, have been terminally damaged. Full article:

Brexit Consequences- Spain Removes Entry Measures for EU Nationals, but Not for Britons:
-The Spanish authorities announced last week that the country would no longer apply COVID-19 entry rules for travellers from the European Union/Schengen Area but did not make any exemptions for those travelling from the United Kingdom.
-Announcing the newly updated travel rules, the Spanish Ministry of Health pointed out that the entry rules for travellers from outside the EU/Schengen Area have not changed.
-This means that all travellers from the UK are still subject to COVID rules when reaching Spain.
-The Spanish Ministry of Health explains that all travellers over the age of 12 from the UK as well as those from the other third countries, must present a valid vaccination, recovery, or test certificate upon their arrival. All cancer patients in drug trial appear to be cured for ‘first time in history’:
-An experimental cancer drug appears to have cured every single patient in a small clinical trial conducted in the US. All 12 patients, who had been diagnosed with rectal cancer, entered into remission after taking dostarlimab over a six-month period, according to a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
-“This is the first time this has happened in the history of cancer”, Dr Luis Diaz, one of the lead authors of the paper and an oncologist at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) in New York, told The New York Times.
-The patients also experienced no significant side effects during the course of their treatment, though it’s believed not enough people were involved in the study to highlight the different adverse reactions caused by the drug.
-Although excited by the research, scientists have said the promising results will need to be repeated, and cautioned against concluding whether the patients had been cured of their cancer.
-Dostarlimab is an immunotherapy drug used in the treatment of endometrial cancer, but this was the first clinical investigation of whether it could be effective against rectal cancer tumours.
-The drug works by unmasking cancer cells, allowing the immune system to identify and destroy them. Source article: https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/health/all-cancer-patients-in-drug-trial-appear-to-be-cured-for-first-time-in-history-41729046.html

EU countries, lawmakers clinch deal on single mobile charging port, Apple impacted:
-Apple will have to change the connector on its iPhones sold in Europe by 2024 as EU countries and EU lawmakers on Tuesday agreed to a single mobile charging port for mobile phones, tablets and cameras.
-The agreement is a world first and came after companies failed to agree on a common solution. The European Commission had pushed for a single mobile charging port more than a decade ago.
-Users of iPhones and Android phones have long complained about having to use different chargers for their devices. The former is charged from a Lightning cable while Android-based devices are powered using USB-C connectors.
-“By autumn 2024, USB Type-C will become the common charging port for all mobile phones, tablets and cameras in the EU,” the European Parliament said in a statement. Full article:

When do pensioners get extra summer pay?: This remuneration will be paid with the June payroll, that is, at the end of this month, as a normal and current payroll. With which the payment will be made on July 1, although the exact day on which the payment will take place depends on each bank. The Ministry recalls that both contributory benefit pensioners and non-contributory they have a right to it. Although she remembers that those pensioners with permanent disability pension do not get it, since their pension is prorated in twelve installments, and not in fourteen, so the extra payments are already included. The CPI triggers the costs of SMEs by 23% in one year and strangles the profitability of thousands of businesses: The sharp rise in costs, both labour and raw materials, has caught thousands of businesses without the capacity to absorb the increase in expenses, which has led many of them to reduce their profit margins in order to maintain activity in the midst of an inflationary upswing. Specifically, in the first quarter of 2022 these global costs have increased by 23%, while in the same period the recovery has allowed sales to rise by 19%, four points less, which puts even more pressure on the balance sheets of small and medium-sized companies in our country. Oil tops $120 a barrel on Saudi pricing despite OPEC+ deal: Brent crude was up 4 cents to $119.76 a barrel at 12:22 p.m. EDT (1622 GMT) after touching an intraday high of $121.95.
-U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures rose 8 cents, or 0.1%, to $118.95 a barrel after hitting a three-month high of $120.99. The benchmark fell by $1 earlier in the session.
-Saudi Arabia raised the July official selling price (OSP) for its flagship Arab light crude to Asia by $2.10 from June to a $6.50 premium over Oman/Dubai quotes, just off an all-time-high recorded in May when prices hit highs due to worries of disruptions in supplies from Russia.
-The price increase followed a decision last week by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and allies, together called OPEC+, to boost output for July and August by 648,000 barrels per day, or 50% more than previously planned, though constraint in global refining capacity has kept prices elevated. Bio Beach Restaurant in El Morche: Did you know the Bio Beach Restaurant in El Morche also doubles as an Art Gallery? A brand-new show is up for your viewing enjoyment! And after strolling around, why not indulge in a healthy, filling, and absolutely delicious meal? May I suggest Albondigas de Verduras with Salsa de Tomate Casera? These are veggie balls bathing in a delish tomato sauce prepared by the expert cooks of Bio Beach. The magical aroma of the sauce alone will send you dreaming of Italian melodies! Or better yet, you may want to share the Albondigas with a friend and order a side salad to complement this tasty hot dish. Try them you cannot go wrong!
-The Bio Beach lectures are taking a pause for the summer. We will resume in September with a food presentation on Wed. Sept. 14th at 11am. These programmes are free, just order refreshments. We belong to U3A, (http://www.u3aaxarquia.com/) and these social, educational, and stimulating mornings are presented in an effort to attract more members. Recommendations & Requests

Recommendation for Warren Car Clean Malaga: I am writing to say how pleased I am with Warren Phillips and Car Clean Malaga. I have a 2001 Lexus ES 300 with about 151K miles. I have had great results with the car, and have tried to keep it in good condition. I reached out to Warren to get it “detailed” cleaned and conditioned. He and his wife did a fantastic job. The car looks brand new! The interior is spotless. The dash, the seats, the floor mats, all looking great! But the exterior is the most noticeable. It’s shines with a great smooth-to-the-touch professional looking finish. Warren used a new technology ceramic coating product that is beautiful and, I’m told, long-lasting with proper care. A few other things I should mention is that Warren came and picked up the car, gave me a “loaner” vehicle to use while he did his work, and returned my car promptly as promised. I am happy to recommend Warren Phillips and Car Clean Malaga. Ron/ Nerja. radam10AThotmailD0Tcom

Monkeypox – WHO says cases outside Africa triple to 780 in three weeks, most in UK & Spain: {BBC, 5 June 2022 17:30}
This is roughly triple the 257 cases it reported a week ago. The WHO says the figure – for the past three weeks – is probably an underestimate and assesses the global risk level as “moderate”.
Most of these new cases are in Europe and North America as well as small numbers in Mexico, Argentina, Morocco and the United Arab Emirates.
The UK has the most cases, with 207, followed by Spain with 156 and Portugal with 138. Full article: https://www.bbc.com/news/health-61696974

AXARQUIA

Water consumption in the Axarquia increases by almost 50% in just one month due to the increase in tourism: {Translation, summary}
-There is still a summer ahead with the La Viñuela reservoir at 16% of its capacity and the drought situation persists.
-The reservoir currently has 26 hectometres (slightly less usable) to cope with June, July and August. In these last two months, human consumption is expected to double due to the arrival of tourists, which is expected to be a record after the two years of the pandemic.
-The supply is guaranteed, but it is not compatible with the current consumption of 1,500 litres per hectare of irrigation, according to Gregorio Campos, vice-president of the Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol-Axarquia. TECH

Piracy, It’s a Crime- UK Govt. Ignored Warnings, Now Families Pay The Price: The Digital Economy Act 2017 was the government’s attempt at creating a better, safer internet for citizens in the UK.
-It included an amendment to the Copyright, Designs and Patent Act that raised the maximum sentence for online infringement to 10 years in prison, with a basic threshold of simply exposing a copyright owner “to a risk of loss“. This meant that anyone downloading and sharing a single song or a single movie using BitTorrent became criminals in the eyes of the law.
-The term “copyright troll” is often applied to companies that monitor file-sharing networks, collect IP addresses they claim are sharing movies, and compel ISPs to hand over the identities related to those IP addresses. They then send letters claiming that legal action in the civil courts will follow, should the recipient (including innocent billpayers) refuse to pay a considerable financial sum.
-While these letters are unpleasant to receive, under copyright law they are entirely legal and if the person named in the letter did indeed infringe the movie company’s rights, settling a case might be the sensible course of action. Pope Francis fuels new speculation on future of pontificate:
-Pope Francis added fuel to rumors about the future of his pontificate by announcing he would visit the central Italian city of L’Aquila in August for a feast initiated by Pope Celestine V, one of the few pontiffs who resigned before Pope Benedict XVI stepped down in 2013.
-Italian and Catholic media have been rife with unsourced speculation that the 85-year-old Francis might be planning to follow in Benedict’s footsteps, given his increased mobility problems that have forced him to use a wheelchair for the last month.
-Those rumors gained steam last week when Francis announced a consistory to create 21 new cardinals scheduled for Aug. 27. Sixteen of those cardinals are under age 80 and eligible to vote in a conclave to elect Francis’ successor. Photo:AP. Your skin health matters to us. How you feed your skin is as important as how you feed your body. Why settle for anything less than natural and organic?
As our skin is the first layer of our defence against microbial infections, ultraviolet radiation and environmental contamination it plays a vital role in our health. As we grow older, however, our skin becomes thinner, wrinkled, and more sensitive; hence it requires the use of treatments containing specific ingredients to the care of treating mature skin.
Recognising this need we have created a range of formulae which help
-slow down ageing process by smoothing fine lines and wrinkles.
-improve facial complexion and eliminate blemishes.
At Moonette, we are passionate about health, beauty and plants. Your skin will benefit from the properties of botanic essential oils combined with a selection of nutrients for deep hydration, cell revitalization and antioxidant effect, all sourced from the finest natural ingredients with gorgeous fragrances.
Naturally, we care about our planet and feel the need to help reduce the sheer volumes of plastics waste that are generated daily around the globe. Presently, we are minimizing the usage of plastic materials in our production while seeking alternative forms of packaging. To help reduce pollution we are asking all local customers to recycle or reuse their Moonette skincare containers, and offering a small discount on future purchases to customers recycling containers.

Covid Andalucia- Decrease of 101 hospital admissions since Tuesday to 578 and ICUs down by four: {Translation, 03/06/2022 · 12:51}
-On Friday, 3 June, Andalusia recorded a drop of 101 hospitalisations due to coronavirus compared to Tuesday 31 May to 578, the lowest figure since 12 April (484), while admissions to intensive care units (ICU) fell by four to 27.
-Director of Health and Families of the Board of Andalusia, Jesús Aguirre, stressed that “we are already on a trend, not a saw-toothed one, but a clearly downward trend”.
-In this context, the evolution of “ICU admissions” also fits in, as “we are at 27 ICU admissions”, and this after “we have reached figures of 700 in other periods. We would have to go to the middle of 2020 to find a figure of 27 hospital admissions at ICU level, in the whole of Andalusia.
-These figures mean, according to the minister, that the pandemic in Andalusia is following “a clear downward trend, and we hope that it does not stop”, but neither can we forget, Aguirre warned, that “the virus is with us and that the virus continues to cause deaths” and infections. Why you should be raising your rates if you’re self-employed in Spain: With inflation in Spain at its highest rate in four decades, many of the 3.1 million self-employed people working in Spain have increased their rates in order to try and make up the difference and stay afloat financially. According to data from the official ATA barometer for May 2022, well over half (57.3 percent) have already upped the prices of their products and services. In fact, the ATA barometer reveals that almost half of those interviewed would rather not be self-employed again. In fact, one in five who have deregistered said they would “never” be autónomos again.
-The price rise that’s impacted businesses in Spain most is that of electricity (70 percent affected), followed by raw material and petrol price increases, affecting around 42 percent of those surveyed. And the trend looks set to continue, as 80 percent of autónomos surveyed said their businesses have been “fairly” or “very” affected by rising inflation.
-This comes as many self-employed workers are still trying to recover from the loss of earnings brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, with 66 percent of respondents stating they have yet to recover those losses. Half of those fear they won’t recoup the difference from losses during the pandemic until 2023.

Spain has only administered 2% of the anticovid pills for which it paid €238 million: After the vaccines, Paxlovid was the great hope to end covid-19: an oral treatment produced by the pharmaceutical company Pfizer that reaches up to 89% efficacy in reducing hospitalizations and deaths and that works against all variants, including omicron. On January 27, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) gave the green light to these anticovid pills and Spain soon showed great interest in acquiring them. So much so that the Ministry of Health reached an agreement with Pfizer to receive 344,000 complete treatments for 238 million euros (at 691 euros each). “This drug represents a very important advance to continue saving lives,” said the Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, on March 24, when she signed the contract with the company. But the use of Paxlovid is being almost nil. Health has already received 51,649 treatments, of which 50,000 have been distributed to the communities, but so far only 1,218 have been dispensed, just 2.35% of them, Darias revealed in the Congressional Health Commission. The affected lot is number 3369, with an expiration date of June 3, 2022. Its packaging is a plastic tray and it is sold refrigerated.

British Nationals Can Still Use Their Unexpired EHIC Cards When Travelling to EU, Despite Brexit: A large number of British nationals can still use their European Health Insurance Cards (EHIC) when travelling to the majority of European Union and Schengen Area countries, in spite of the United Kingdom’s complete departure from the EU in December 31, 2020.
-However, due to UK’s departure from the bloc, new EHIC cards are now issued only to UK nationals that are covered by the Withdrawal Agreement. While it is estimated that around 5.6 million EHIC cards will have expired by the end of this year, a lot of them will remain valid in 2023, in particular those that were issued throughout 2020, just before Brexit, since an EHIC card can be issued for up to five years. Tennis News- Rafael Nadal reaches French Open final to face Casper Ruud after Alexander Zverev retires with ankle injury:
Rafael Nadal was locked in a tight, compelling and lengthy French Open semifinal Friday when his opponent, third-seeded Alexander Zverev, ran to to chase a shot and twisted his right ankle. Zverev crumpled to the ground, wailing in agony and clutching at his lower leg.
The sudden end to a contest that was 3 hours old but not even through two full sets allowed Nadal to become, on his 36th birthday, the second-oldest men’s finalist in French Open history. Now he will try to become the oldest champion at a tournament he’s already won a record 13 times, facing first-time Grand Slam finalist Casper Ruud on Sunday. Photo:Reuters. FINANCIAL

ECB considers it “disproportionate” to lower the cash payment limit to 1,000 euros in Spain: {Translation, summary}
-A “disproportionate” limit, an “excessive” penalty regime and less freedom for citizens to choose their means of payment. In these terms, the European Central Bank (ECB) has criticised the limit of 1,000 euros for cash payments established by Spain. On 11 July, the anti-fraud law came into force, which entailed a reduction from the previous limit of 2,500 euros for transactions between professionals and individuals, well below the common limit of 10,000 euros proposed by the European Commission for member states. The European Central Bank does not perceive the Spanish initiative as an example to follow, but rather as an excess of control by the Spanish government.
-The European banking authority has produced a report, the conclusions of which are clear. The European Central Bank (ECB) considers the €1,000 limit to be “disproportionate”. “Such a reduction will have undesirable adverse effects on the legal tender status of euro banknotes. Moreover, this cash limit significantly reduces the ability of payers to use euro banknotes and the freedom of citizens to choose the means of payment”, the document states.
-This analysis also detects discrimination between payments made by residents, to whom the €1,000 cap applies, and those made by foreigners, who can pay up to €10,000 in cash. “As the ECB has already warned with regard to the €10,000 limitation on cash payments by natural persons not acting in their capacity as entrepreneurs or professionals and not domiciled for tax purposes in Spain to persons acting in their capacity as entrepreneurs or professionals, the application of a different rule to payments made by non-residents does not seem justified, and discriminates against payments made by residents,” the document stresses.
-In terms of the offences and penalties, the ECB considers that the sanctions regime established in the law is excessive and, in particular, “the 25% penalty of the amount paid seems disproportionately high”. The ECB reiterates that the limitations on cash payments should not go beyond what is necessary to achieve its objectives, and that any negative effects of the proposed limitations must be carefully weighed with the public benefits that are expected of them.
