What’s on-Stars of the West End in Torre del Mar
Lovers of West End and Broadway musicals are in for a treat when the “Stars of the West End” show returns by popular demand.
After 4 sell-out shows in March of 2017 Big M Promotions is pleased to announce that the show will be on at Salon del Mar, Torre del Mar.

What’s on- Dancing & Exercise
Do you enjoy, dancing, movement, Latin music, spending a healthy couple of hours with same minded people?? If yes, join us on Tuesday and Thursday for Latin Dance Classes in Velez.. Studies show that dancing and especially learning or brushing up on steps is the ultimate form of body and brain exercises. Join us on Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 to approximately 10pm. Francisco Sanchez, Spanish instructor and Norma, his English speaking assistant, will inspire you to move to such dances as Meringue, Salsa, Cha Cha Cha and Bachata. We will not rush to teach you complicated steps. These lessons are for individuals or couples who want to better understand 1) the basics of the body moving to music, 2) how to center yourself, 3) how to establish your center of gravity, 4) how to transfer your weight gracefully 5) how to improve your posture, and 6) how to express in movements what the music conveys. But most importantly 7) how to feel joyful while moving to music and share this joy with others. Students will rotate partners to acquire maximum skills… And all adults and teens are welcome!! Spend a few hours a week with happy and same minded people while boosting your oxygen intake and meeting new friends. The monthly fee upon registration is, for singles, 25€; for couples: 40€. The Phoenix Club is off for another dose of retail therapy, this time to Plaza Mayor & IKEA in Malaga in the morning and then in the afternoon, on to one of the best Garden Centres in the area, Guzmans in Alhaurin. They have a fantastic selection of named varieties of all sorts of plants and trees.

Trip to the Bioparc in Fuengirola
The visit by the Phoenix Club is on the 23rd of March. Bioparc Fuengirola champions a new model of zoo based on respect for nature and the preservation of natural species, a model which has already established itself as a flagship for Europe. It represents is a different concept of zoo. A zoological park where animals live side-by-side, recreating their natural habitat and so fostering their development at all levels. Visitors are stepping inside a true documentary of the deepest tropical woodlands.
The centre also has exclusive species of such great biological importance as the Malayan False Gavial, bred here successfully for the first time in captivity, and the Blue Duiker, to be found nowhere else in Spain, along with the only group of breeding gorillas in Andalusia.

Trip to Gibraltar 6th April 2018 – The Phoenix Club are off on their next shopping trip to Gibraltar on Friday 6th April. We have pick ups at at the A1 Garden Centre, Torre del Mar bus station and finally at Algarrobo Lidl at 08.30. The bus is parked in Morrisons car park and we leave Gibraltar at 16.30. Due to visa restrictions on entering Gibraltar, please advise if you are a non EU citizen when you book. Also it is important to remember to bring with you your EHIC card, just in case, and passports are essential. On the way to Gibraltar we stop to spend a penny and for coffee. We would greatly appreciate if payment was made before the journey.

Visit to Montillar and Lucena Cordoba Province 18th May
Lucena is situated on the Lucena River, a minor tributary of the Genil, on an important crossroads at the very center of Andalusia. In early times Lucena was inhabited almost exclusively by Jews who had arrived together with its founders; hence it was called “Jews’ City”, a nickname also applied to Granada and Tarragona. The Jews of Lucena, who carried on extensive trade and industries, were, according to the 11th-century Moslem geographer, Mohamed al-Edrisi, richer than those of any other city. They enjoyed the same freedom as their correligionists in the large Muslim cities. Their Rabbi, who was elected by the entire community, was granted special privileges and acted as judge in the civil and criminal cases arising in the community. The Jews lived peaceably until the Almoravides came into power.
Lucena was taken from the Moors in 1240 but it remained as frontier village for centuries. In fact, it was in the attempt to recapture it that King Boabdil of Granada was taken prisoner in 1483.
The parish church dates from the ending of the 15th century. Our Lady of Araceli is an image brought from Rome in the 16th century and is the patron of Lucena, canonically crowned in 1948.
The chief industries are the manufacture of furniture, industrial refrigerators, wine, bronze lamps and pottery, especially the large earthenware jars (tinajas) used in the past throughout Spain for the storage of oil and wine, some of which hold more than 300 gallons. Matches also used to be made there. There is considerable trade in agricultural produce.
Our visit includes Montillar – The olive oil of the district is abundant and good, and it is the peculiar flavour of the pale dry light wine of Montilla that gives its name to the sherry known as Amontillado. Montilla is the largest component of the Montilla-Moriles designated wine region. The large wineries Alvear and Gran Barquero are located in Montilla, which has an annualvendimia (wine-harvest) festival.

Visit a Lavender Garden in the Alpujarras – 25th May
The garden was started in 2005, from the abandoned terraces of an old farmhouse. Over the years the owners have converted the 8,000 metre square site into a delightful Mediterranean mountain garden. Organised over several terraced levels, the gardens offer a variety of distinct areas or garden rooms for the visitors to enjoy, with planting ranging from native species from the Sierra Nevada to the exotic. The emphasis is on plants and how they flourish in these very unique climatic conditions.
