SPAIN

The popular prosecution requests 24 years in prison for Begoña Gómez and for Sánchez and Bolaños to testify at the trial: {Trans., summary}
– A unified popular prosecution led by the association Hazte Oir has requested a total of 24 years in prison for Begona Gomez, the wife of the Prime Minister. Judge Juan Carlos Peinado recently charged her with alleged offences of influence peddling, business corruption, misappropriation and misuse of public funds. Once the remaining procedures are added, the case will move to trial.
– The prosecution’s document outlines penalties for three counts of influence peddling, a continued offence of business corruption, continued misuse of public funds and misappropriation, together with long periods of disqualification and financial penalties. Her adviser, Cristina Alvarez, faces a request for 22 years in prison for acting as a necessary collaborator, along with bans on public contracts and subsidies. Juan Carlos Barrabes, linked to Gomez’s academic work, faces seven years. The prosecution also calls more than one hundred witnesses, including Pedro Sanchez and several prominent figures. Sánchez’s decree collapses Madrid’s social services- from 1,500 to 5,500 daily appointments due to mass regularization: {Trans., summary}
– The Madrid City Council has reported a sharp rise in requests for all social service appointments following the start of the extraordinary regularisation process approved by the national government. According to the councillor for Social Policies, Family and Equality, Jose Fernandez, daily requests increased from 1,500 to 5,500 within a week. He linked this surge to the new decree and criticised the lack of coordination with regional governments and local councils, which must manage part of the workload.
– The council will issue vulnerability certificates only when there is a prior social intervention or an established record. People without a history may request appointments but might not receive the certificate after assessment. Fernandez warned that the increased demand could affect essential services such as teleassistance, home help and school absenteeism control. He also questioned aspects of the decree, raised concerns about insufficient documentation and suggested it could create a call effect on migration. A government order forces prisons to facilitate the regularization of more than 15,000 foreign inmates– but how will they pass the criminal background check?: {Trans., summary}
– The Government has issued an internal instruction requiring prisons to identify foreign inmates who may qualify for the extraordinary regularisation created by Royal Decree 316/2026. Prisons must now act as administrative intermediaries, locating eligible inmates, informing them of the process and coordinating with immigration offices. This represents a major operational shift, since applications were previously handled almost entirely by the individuals concerned.
– The instruction argues that without regularisation, many inmates would become irregular upon release, complicating reintegration and increasing the risk of reoffending. {In most countries undocumented migrants who commit crimes and serve prison time are sent back home, not released back into the local society as undocumented ex-cons. What kind of suicidal socialists are running the Spanish prison system? -Ed.}
– The Government states that the new regularization process applies to prisoners if they meet requirements for residence, documentation and social ties. This creates a clear conflict, since inmates cannot pass a standard criminal background check. The instruction implies that the extraordinary mechanism overrides this barrier, allowing administrative eligibility despite ongoing sentences.
– More than 30 percent of Spain’s prison population is foreign, over 15,000 people, mainly from Morocco and Algeria, with others from Latin America, Eastern Europe and sub Saharan Africa. A significant number may qualify if background checks are waived.
– The measure has caused discontent among prison staff. The union TAMPM criticises the speed of measures benefiting inmates while staff demands remain unanswered. Nerja urges the Ministry for Ecological Transition to urgently restore the Antonio Mercero seafront promenade in Burriana: {Trans., summary}
– The Governing Board of Nerja has approved urging the General Directorate of Sustainability of the Coast and the Sea, under the Ministry for Ecological Transition of the Government of Spain, to urgently restore the affected section of the Antonio Mercero promenade on Burriana beach, which was seriously damaged after the storms.
– The damage has resulted in the disappearance of part of the promenade in its western section, disrupting pedestrian traffic and significantly impacting public use of the space. Furthermore, the damage has led to the loss of essential infrastructure such as street lighting and other service facilities, compromising safety and accessibility. – The Vélez-Málaga City Council has officially accepted the completed water supply works in El Trapiche, culminating a project “that puts an end to more than half a century without a public water supply in this community,” explained a spokesperson from the council.
– From now on, the period is open for residents to request registration for the supply, a process that has already begun and whose applications are being handled as they are registered, thus allowing families to begin to benefit from a stable, regulated and guaranteed service. IMMIGRATION IN SPAIN

The PP will present motions in all its municipalities against immigration regularization: {Trans., summary}
– Miguel Tellado {pic} of the PP announced that the party will introduce motions in councils across Spain to stop the recently approved plan to regularise immigrants. He argued that the measure has created disorder, claiming that municipal offices are overwhelmed and that the government has acted irresponsibly. Tellado added that mayors will send written demands to regional government delegates seeking explanations for the situation, which he described as senseless and damaging for local administrations.
– Earlier the same day, minister Elma Saiz stated in a TVE interview that some councils were placing obstacles in the way of the process. She stressed that these barriers do not hinder the national government but instead affect immigrants who are relying on the procedure and hoping for a resolution. Saiz insisted that such actions are unacceptable and called for cooperation from local authorities to ensure the measure can function properly. EUROPE

Rumen Radev, Russia-friendly ex-fighter pilot, sweeps Bulgaria’s election:
– Bulgarian former president Rumen Radev {pic}, an EU critic who has called for renewing ties with Russia, has won an absolute majority in parliamentary elections that could spell an end to the country’s half-decade of political uncertainty but also potentially push the EU and NATO member state closer to Moscow.
– His Progressive Bulgaria grouping secured 44.7 percent, after 91.7 percent of the ballots were counted, putting him on course to gain some 130 seats in the 240-seat parliament. The party’s sweeping victory suggests it could rule alone, but he has not ruled out a coalition with a pro-European group or a smaller party. It marks the first outright parliamentary majority for a single formation in Bulgaria since 1997 when a centre-right, pro-European grouping won. Commie Cartel to the rescue– Spain, Brazil, Mexico vow to boost Cuba aid amid US threats:
– Spain, Brazil and Mexico have pledged to boost aid efforts for Cuba to ease a humanitarian crisis they say is the result of a US blockade against the Caribbean island nation. In a joint statement late on Saturday, the three nations also called for dialogue and urged against any military intervention in Cuba, adding that the Cuban people must determine their own future. The statement came after Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez {pic} hosted Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Mexico’s President Claudia Scheinbaum in Barcelona for a gathering of leftist leaders. South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa, Colombian President Gustavo Petro and German Vice Chancellor Lars Klingbeil, were also in attendance, among others.
– US President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened to invade Cuba and has imposed an oil blockade on the Caribbean island. Since launching a war against Iran on February 28, Trump also floated the idea of “taking” Cuba, which has also suffered massive nationwide blackouts as a result of the US blockade. How to disable unwanted AI features on a Samsung Galaxy:
– AI is being pushed everywhere these days and it’s become overwhelming. Every platform seems to have new baked-in AI tools offering different levels of usefulness. Some, like photo editing tools, seem genuinely useful, but I don’t need pointless AI writing tools or Gemini invading my Google Docs and other apps.
– That’s why I choose which AI tools I want on my Samsung Galaxy phone and discard the ones I don’t need. It isn’t easy as many are integrated into the system and can affect the functionality of other apps. I think it’s still worth it for my peace of mind. Here’s how I remove unwanted AI features from my Samsung Galaxy. Full article: https://www.pocket-lint.com/how-i-disable-unwanted-ai-features-on-my-galaxy/

What’s the best time to see Lyrid meteors in 2026?:
– The Lyrid meteor shower is nearing peak activity! Here’s the best time to hunt for shooting stars as well as a guide on where to find them in the spring sky so you can maximize your chances of spotting these fast-moving meteors.
– The Lyrid meteor shower occurs between April 16-25 every year and will next peak in the early hours of April 22, 2026. Fortunately, the moon won’t interfere with this year’s display, setting after midnight and leaving dark skies for peak viewing!
– The average Lyrid shower produces 15 to 20 meteors per hour. Some years, the Lyrid meteor shower intensifies and can produce up to 100 meteors per hour in what’s called an “outburst,” but it is difficult to predict exactly when that will happen.
– The radiant — the point from which the meteors appear to originate — will be high in the evening sky in the constellation Lyra to the northeast of Vega, one of the brightest stars visible in the night sky this time of year. Don’t look directly toward the radiant, though, because you might miss the meteors with the longest tails. You don’t need any kind of special equipment to see the meteors; just look up at the dark sky, be patient and enjoy the show. CULTURAL REVOLUTION

The Andalusian Regional Government officially recognizes the 323,000 single-parent families in Andalusia: {Trans., summary}
– In Andalusia, there are approximately 323,000 households of this type (811,006 people), according to the latest Household Budget Survey from the Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia, corresponding to 2024. This represents 9.5% of all Andalusian households and 20.1% of all households with children. The majority of these households are headed by a single mother.
– The approved text defines a single-parent family as one formed by a single parent with one or more dependent children (by birth, adoption, guardianship, custody for adoption purposes, or foster care) who are under 26 years of age, live in the same household, and are financially dependent on that parent. However, it also considers other exceptional situations, such as when the father or mother has sole custody and does not receive child support; when the parent with dependent children has suffered abandonment (as established by the Penal Code); victims of gender-based violence by the other parent; and in cases of forced temporary absence of one of the parents, preventing them from fulfilling their family responsibilities for a minimum period of one year.
