ANDALUCÍA
Bulls Fight Back– Tragic Month in Andalucia as Two People Killed, Two Matadors Gored: {DigameXtra}
– A deadly month in Andalucia has seen two deaths and two famous matadors seriously injured in bull-related incidents.
– On April 3 in Málaga, former matador Ricardo Ortiz, 51, was gored to death while unloading fighting bulls.
– On April 24 in Beas de Segura (Jaén), Santiago Barrero, 33, was fatally wounded in the chest during a street bull-running event.
– Meanwhile, during Sevilla’s April Fair, two renowned matadors were gored just days apart. Morante de la Puebla suffered a 10 cm deep wound to the rectum, damaging anal sphincter muscles. Hours later, Andrés Roca Rey {pic} was caught by his second bull, sustaining a 35 cm horn wound to the right thigh with two trajectories (20 cm descending, 15 cm ascending), causing extensive muscle damage. His prognosis was described as “very grave”. Both matadors were operated on by the same surgeon, Dr. Octavio Mulet, and have since left intensive care .
– The four incidents have reignited fierce debate between defenders of Spain’s bull-running traditions and critics who point to the visceral, life-threatening risks involved.

MALAGA PROVINCE
The DGT alerts Malaga drivers– driving a dirty car will be fined 200 euros– Traffic regulations establish that this situation is a serious infraction: {Trans., summary}
– Driving a dirty car in Malaga province can result in a €200 fine for serious offences relating to visibility and identification. The General Directorate of Traffic requires number plates to be perfectly legible at all times. Dirt obscuring plates hinders detection by officers or cameras and incurs a €200 penalty. Deliberately concealing plates with paint or adhesives raises the fine to €6,000 and carries a 6-licence-point penalty.
– Furthermore, legislation penalises dirt on windscreens or windows that compromises driver visibility. The General Traffic Regulations state that glazed surfaces must provide a clear, uninterrupted view of the road. Drivers must maintain the necessary field of vision and permanent attention to driving, ensuring their own safety, the safety of passengers and other road users. Failure to do so is a serious infraction carrying the same €200 fine. Source, Spanish: https://www.laopiniondemalaga.es/malaga/2026/04/26/dgt…
TORROX
Torrox Town Hall supports the safety of its electrical substation after a report with measurements “600 times below” the limit: {Trans., summary}
– A neighbourhood dispute over Torrox’s new electrical substation, operational since October, has intensified. Councillor José Manuel Fernández defends the installation using a technical report from the ICA Group, an authorised control body contracted by Endesa – the same company that built the substation. The report therefore cannot be called independent, yet Fernández presents its findings as conclusive: field levels are “up to 600 times below legal limits”.
– The Citizen Platform denounces a “lack of transparency”, demanding full technical reports due to the substation’s proximity to homes and a school. The group suspects the project was deliberately split across multiple administrative files to avoid scrutiny– burying cables in trenches in a seperate file from the facility construction. Fernández acknowledges poor initial communication but offers no apology for dismissing residents’ fears.
– Residents’ concerns about health risks and procedural secrecy remain unanswered. The Platform has given 15 days for a formal response before pursuing legal action. Fernández promises a meeting with Endesa, but the underlying issue – rejection of a non-independent report produced by the electricity company’s own contractor – goes unaddressed, and a truely independent analysis is demanded. Citizen distrust continues to be ignored.

VÉLEZ-MÁLAGA
Vélez-Málaga police arrest suspect of wave of car break-ins:
– The National Police have arrested a 40-year-old suspect of a series of eleven car break-ins in the same area in Vélez-Málaga. The investigation began after the police received a series of complaints from residents who, within days, found their vehicles with smashed windows and ransacked interiors. All the cases shared common elements: geographical proximity, similar times of day and the same modus operandi.
– The suspect is an alleged repeat offender, with several prior arrests for similar crimes. His activity has previously generated concern among residents, who reported a growing sense of insecurity in the area. The investigation remains open and the police are working to determine whether the detainee may have been involved in other similar incidents in the municipality or nearby towns. Moment a fairground ride breaks down on Calle del Infierno (Hell Street), Seville: {Trans., summary}
– An accident on a fairground ride left four people with minor injuries this Thursday in Seville, specifically on the well-known Calle del Infierno (Hell Street) during the Seville April Fair. The incident occurred around 8:20 p.m. on the “human slingshot” ride known as Steel Max.
– According to eyewitnesses, the structure broke while in operation, causing tense moments among those present. As a result of the incident, four people sustained minor injuries, two of whom were taken to a medical centre for further evaluation.
– The swift response of the emergency services prevented more serious consequences. Local police, Civil Protection, and firefighters from Seville were dispatched to the scene, where they secured the area and attended to those affected. The Sevilla April Fair reaches its halfway point with sky-high prices and more contained spending: {Trans., summary}
– The April Fair is again marked by rising prices. Acorn-fed ham now costs €20-€25 per portion, up €3-€4 from last year. Iberian meat is €16-€18 per plate. Seafood remains the most expensive product, with daily price changes. Spanish omelette costs €8-€9, approximately €1 more than last year. Scrambled eggs average €15. A jug of rebujito (manzanilla, Sprite and ice) now costs around €13 on average. A small beer costs about €2.50. Taxi fares have risen 3.5% this year. The sector estimates an average price rise of 10%. Booth operators say practically everything has gone up. More affordable alternatives like croquettes, pork crackling and small sandwiches have also increased. Many fair-goers now eat at home before arriving to save money. Some have spaced out their visits or come already having eaten. Rides have avoided increases, with children’s rides at €3.50-€4 and adult rides at €4.50-€6. USA
Attack against Trump at the White House correspondents’ dinner: {Trans., summary}
– President Donald Trump and his senior officials were evacuated from the White House correspondents’ dinner in Washington on Saturday after an armed man tried to enter the event. The attacker, Cole Tomas Allen, 31, from California, fired five to eight shots but did not breach the security perimeter. Trump described him as a “madman” and a “lone wolf”. The suspect was armed with a shotgun, a pistol and several knives when he attempted to storm an outdoor security checkpoint. He was intercepted and detained. Trump, Melania Trump, Vice-President JD Vance and hundreds of journalists were inside.
– The president addressed the media from the White House minutes later. Police confirmed the man acted alone. No injuries were reported. This was Trump’s first attendance at the annual dinner as president, having boycotted the event during his first term and again in 2025 after his return to the White House following the November 2024 election. Israeli strikes kill 14 in Lebanon as Israel warns residents to leave towns beyond ‘buffer zone’:
– Israeli strikes killed 14 people and wounded 37 on Sunday, Lebanon’s health ministry said, as the Israeli military warned residents to leave seven towns beyond the “buffer zone” it occupied before a ceasefire that has failed to fully halt hostilities.
– A spokesperson for the Israeli military said in a statement on X that Lebanese armed group Hezbollah was violating the ceasefire and that Israel would act against it, telling people to head north and west away from the towns. The towns are north of the Litani River and the zone in southern Lebanon occupied by Israeli troops, who have continued military operations despite the ceasefire. The military said that it struck Hezbollah fighters, rocket launchers and a weapons depot. HEALTH
Andalusia begins a new week of strikes after 767,000 medical procedures were cancelled: {Trans., summary}
– The Andalusian Health Service faces a doctors’ strike from 27 to 30 April against the central government’s Framework Statute. The previous strike (16-20 March) caused over 256,000 missed procedures. Combined with December and February strikes, total losses exceed 767,000 procedures and €111 million.
– Doctors demand better conditions, risk recognition, regulated on-call shifts, a 35-hour week, job stability, and a dedicated negotiating forum. Union leader Rafael Ojeda says no agreement is possible without a change at the ministry, accusing Minister Mónica García of incompetence and lying about talks. Strike participation is 20-30%, hitting primary care hardest.
– Regional minister Antonio Sanz warns strikes harm public healthcare, with citizens bearing the consequences. He criticises the ministry’s neglect and says Andalusia suffers severely due to the minister’s poor management.

The Andalusian Regional Government calls for the resignation of Minister of Health Mónica García due to her “incompetence”– She has already announced the next job she plans to seek: {Trans., summary}
– Andalusia’s Health Minister, Antonio Sanz, has backed the doctors’ strike against the Framework Statute and called for the resignation of national minister Mónica García, accusing her of incompetence and irresponsibility. He stated that 767,000 healthcare procedures have already been cancelled due to strikes. Sanz criticised García’s “dereliction of duty”, saying doctors have long sought negotiation while the Ministry only blames others. He claimed there is political intent for strike consequences to fall on regional governments, harming Andalusian citizens. He warned that each strike day suspends over 50,000 procedures, worsening waiting lists, with an economic impact of €111 million. Sanz insisted the Andalusian government has reached agreements with unions, unlike the Ministry. He urged socialist leader María Jesús Montero to press García to negotiate, to spare Andalusians from further harm. He concluded that dialogue and consensus are the only ways to end the conflict, stressing that citizens cannot keep losing essential medical care.
– Health Minister Mónica García {pic} has announced she will run for the presidency of the Madrid regional government in the 2027 elections, signalling her intention to leave her current Health ministerial post. García made the announcement during a Más Madrid party event on 25 April 2026, declaring: “Madrid runs through my veins. I want to be the next president of the Community of Madrid”.
– She will compete in internal party primaries, though she remains at the Health Ministry for now. Her planned departure has drawn criticism from the Madrid regional government, with Culture Minister Mariano de Paco arguing that García should resign immediately rather than dividing her attention between ministerial duties and campaign preparations.
– Opposition figures, including Vox spokesperson Isabel Pérez Moñino, have also dismissed the announcement, noting that García “abandons” the ministry amid an ongoing doctors’ strike and “the failure of all her policies” . García previously led Más Madrid in the regional assembly before becoming minister in late 2023. Sources close to her confirm she intends to step down from national government once the electoral process advances. TRAVEL
This Thursday, Malaga recovers (hopefully) the direct AVE to Madrid after 100 days without service: {Trans., summary}
– Adif plans to restore high-speed rail services between Malaga, Madrid and other Andalusian cities on Thursday, 30 April, after 100 days of disruption. The line has been closed since a rail accident in Adamuz (Cordoba) on 18 January. Since 18 February, Renfe has provided a bus link to Antequera, used by about 300,000 passengers.
– The AVE will return to Malaga before the May bank holiday weekend, provided no external factors arise following work to clear the passage through Alora, which was blocked by severe storms in early February.
– Adif stated the work was highly complex due to the scale of the landslide, ground conditions and the proximity of a high-voltage power line. After the collapse, technical analysis led to the removal of much of the remaining structure using a phased approach to ensure safety while softening the terrain’s slope.
– These operations are now complete. Railway installations are being restored, including electrification systems (catenary), tracks and points, plus signalling and traffic regulation equipment. During the work, about 25 machines and up to 75 people working round-the-clock shifts have been deployed to speed up infrastructure recovery. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)
Training AI to take your job– Meta to start capturing employee mouse movements, keystrokes for AI training data:
– Meta (FakeBook/WhatsApp/Instascam) is installing new tracking software on U.S.-based employees’ computers to capture mouse movements, clicks and keystrokes for use in training its artificial intelligence models, part of a broad initiative to build AI agents that can perform work tasks autonomously, the company told staffers in internal memos seen by Reuters.
– The tool, called Model Capability Initiative (MCI), will run on work-related apps and websites and will also take occasional snapshots of the content on employees’ screens, according to one of the memos, posted by a staff AI research scientist on Tuesday in a channel for the company’s model-building Meta SuperIntelligence Labs team.
– The purpose, according to the memo, was to improve the company’s AI models in areas where they struggle to replicate how humans interact with computers, like choosing from dropdown menus and using keyboard shortcuts. “This is where all Meta employees can help our models get better simply by doing their daily work,” it said.
The Facebook and Instagram owner has been moving aggressively to integrate AI into its workflows and reshape (minimise) its workforce around the technology, arguing it will make the company operate more efficiently.
– Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth told employees in a separate memo shared on Monday that the company would step up internal data collection as part of those “AI for Work” efforts, now re-branded as Agent Transformation Accelerator (ATA). “The vision we are building towards is one where our {AI} agents primarily do the work and our role is to direct, review and help them improve,” Bosworth said. The push to automate functions previously performed by human staffers reflects a broad pattern among major U.S. companies this year, especially in the tech sector. What Are Prediction Markets?: {DigameXtra Exclusive}
– Have you ever filled out a tournament bracket or argued with friends about who’ll win an election? Now imagine a website where those predictions have real money behind them. That’s a prediction market.
– A prediction market is an online platform, popular ones include Polymarket, Kalshi, and Metaculus, where strangers gather to bet on future events. It looks a lot like a stock trading app. You’ll see questions like “Will it snow in Chicago on Friday?” or “Who will win Best Picture?” and next to each outcome is a price, constantly flickering up and down.
– Who drives it? Millions of regular people and sometimes subject experts, all anonymously buying and selling shares based on what they think will happen. The platform itself is just the host—it provides the marketplace, sets the rules, and ensures payouts happen correctly, but it doesn’t set the prices. Prices are pure supply and demand.
– The payout is always fixed at $1.00 per winning share, set by the platform from the start. Buy a share at $0.30 and it pays $1.00 if you’re right, your $0.70 profit came from someone on the losing side. The platform usually takes a tiny fee and then steps aside.
– So where do prices come from? If a “Yes” share costs $0.45, that’s just what someone is willing to sell it for. The price isn’t set by anyone official– it’s pure supply and demand. If lots of people suddenly believe something will happen, they rush to buy “Yes” shares, pushing the price up. Doubters will buy “No” shares. The payout, however, never changes from €1.00 per share. Buy at $0.45 and win? You pocket $1.00, a $0.55 profit. Buy at $0.80? You still pocket $1.00, but only make $0.20. The lower your purchase price, the bigger your gain—but also the bigger the risk, since a cheap price means the outcome is seen as unlikely.
– It’s a 24/7 global arena where knowledge literally has a price tag, and anyone confident enough can put their money where their mouth is.
