Nerja 41 Club Donates to Taller de la Amistad

Chairman Jim Skinner and other members of 41 Club Nerja visited the new extension of the Taller de la Amistad association to donate 500 euros to help with much needed equipment.  We were greeted by a local TV crew who interviewed the staff and one of our members Ragnar who explained about our Club.  The visit was very worthwhile and enjoyed by all. We were given gifts of soap made by the association.

41 Club Nerja is made up of 45 Ex Round Tablers from 10 different Countries in Northern Europe and are always looking for new members.  We meet on the first and third Thursdays of the month.  The first sees us taking our ladies our for a menu del dia and are very popular.  On the third Thursday we have our ‘normal’ meeting for the men at the Al Andaluz in Maro near the caves.  Many of these meetings are shared with our ladies if we have good speakers or an ourt visit such as a boat trip, BBQ etc

Thursday 27^th April – A presentation Evening on Astronomers through the Ages.  

Lux Mundi, Torre del Mar invite friends to join them at the Centre for a power point presentation by Peter Cadman. The talk introduces you to Astronomers through the ages telling the story of the people who first started using the stars and constellations to guide them through their lives in the two hemispheres and then following the progress of Astronomy with the Arabs, Greeks and Romans continuing up through the middle ages with well known names such as “Hipparchus 190 – 125BC”,”Galileo 1564 – 1642″,”Edwin Hubble 1889 – 1953″ and up to the present day in Cosmology and Astrophysics. Peter will also give a brief history of their most famous discoveries. The price includes the talk and afterwards a supper of salad, chicken curry with rice, pudding and a bottle of wine between 4 people, there is also a vegetarian option. Ticket price 12 Euros available at the Centre.Fundraising event.  Time 17.00 for 17.30.

What’s on –35 Hashers, Six Virgins, Two Easter Eggs, One Birthday Boy and a 10K Run 

Axarquia Hash House Harriers were out in force on Easter Sunday for Run 291 which took place in the Vinuela area.  Seasoned hares  Bunyan and Routemaster set a 10K-plus trail that was mainly on good track but they threw in a few hundred olive groves,  some steep-ish valleys and a couple of ploughed fields to stop us getting too comfortable! At the end of the hash Jammy Git and F Troop, who had both just completed their 200^th run, were each awarded a Cadbury’s Crème Egg. A post-hash curry put back all the calories we’d burned off, after which we celebrated Routemaster’s 68^th   birthday with an excellent carrot-and-other-healthy-things cake made by our very own Null Points.

With good weather here to stay and minimal chance of rain for the coming months now is a good time to join Axarquia Hash Harriers and get fit for the summer.  Just click on Next Run for location and directions. All you need is suitable footwear and €4 per person to cover water, soft drinks, beer and crisps.  There’s always a post-hash meal, so you might also want to bring something to change into.

I would like to recommend Steven Rowle, dog and animal therapist.
His behavioural therapy is reported to work especially well for emotionally challenged rescue dogs too.
Steven employed his therapist techniques with my troublesome dog, a female mini schnauzer.
She barked aggressively at visitors to my home and also other dogs and people if we were in public, making trips out stressful and unhappy.
I can see much improvement and now my trips out are far more enjoyable and my dog is much calmer when she finds herself in challenging situations.

Each day I can see improvement.
Steven is reliable, punctual and very helpful, he even provides a customised  after care pack to keep you and your animal on the straight and narrow !

We bought it from Amena to have wireless internet in our house, but we finally decided on another provider.

The router can be used with all providers, it is unused and brand new.

4G is a good solution if you don’t have a landline or you don’t want to have internet through antenna. You just buy a SIM-card from a provider, put in the router and you have internet. The drawback however is that there usually is a maximum of megas you can use on a monthly basis.

Passport Found

Found in Torrox-Costa in the small car park at the end of Penoncillo Beach going towards Nerja, a British passport in the name of Puryer. We asked all the people sunbathing on that end of the beach and in the last restaurant on the beach but we’re unable to locate this lady. The staff were very helpful and called the Torrox Guardia who we believe now have possession of it.

If only there had been a contact number written at the back on the emergency contact page, it would have saved a lot of worry for this lady.

Astronomers through the Ages.

The talk introduces you to Astronomers through the ages telling the story of the people who first started using the stars and constellations to guide them through their lives in the two hemispheres and then following the progress of Astronomy with the Arabs, Greeks and Romans continuing up through the middle ages with well known names such as “Hipparchus 190 – 125BC”, ”Galileo 1564 – 1642″, ”Edwin Hubble 1889 – 1953″ and up to the present day in Cosmology and Astrophysics. Peter will also give a brief history of their most famous discoveries. The price includes the talk and afterwards a supper of salad, chicken curry with rice, pudding and a bottle of wine between 4 people, there is also a vegetarian option. Ticket price 12 Euros available at the Centre. Advice & Explanation – DigmeXtra Pictures

Computer files have “extensions”, the little bit after the dot in the file name, that identify the file type. Photos and images come in a variety of extensions. For DigameXtra to publish an image it must be a .jpeg or .jpg type file. For our purposes .jpeg and .jpg are the same thing.

Watch this 1 min. video. It is titled “How to Convert PNG to JPG”, but the steps work for changing any photo to .jpg/.jpeg. To open the Paint program click Start button, click All Programs, click Accessories, click on Paint.

-Open the photo in Preview.
-Click the File Menu in the in the upper left-hand corner of the screen.
-Select Export from the drop-down menu that appears.
-In the box next to Format: click the down arrow and select your new file format.
-Under Export as: rename the photo then click Save.
Tip: For many file types, Mac users can change the file name extension, and the image converts automatically.

-Unless you are still running Windows XP or Vista (both obsolete) don’t worry about the recent news headlines regarding Windows hacks being released. Windows7/8/10 users who keep their Windows Updates current are not at risk.

-Windows 7 users are no longer in danger of receiving an unwanted upgrade to Windows 10. Turn auto-updates back on if you have not already done so, as announced in an earlier edition of my “Tips”. If auto-updates has been off for a while expect a large number of new updates, so be patient. After setting Windows Updates to “automatically check for and install updates”, click on Check Now For Updates and leave it running all night. Connect power cable before starting this, never update on battery power.

-You can now also remove the GWX Control Panel program for blocking Windows 10 updates if you installed it. GWX does not need to be “uninstalled” like other programs, simply delete the .exe program file and restart your computer.

On Saturday 29^th April The Phoenix Club has a trip to the Fuengirola International Day.  La Feria Internacional de Los Pueblos is one of the most anticipated events of the spring on the Costa del Sol. With over 1 million visitors per year, the Fair is a great way to learn about cultures from around the world without leaving the Costa del Sol. The five day cultural festival hosts over 33 countries and will feature music, dance and foods from all over the world. Spanish regions such as: Madrid, Basque Country and Valencia will be represented this year as well.

Entrance to the event is free of charge but there is a small fee for food and drinks at the “casetas” or booths, which are allocated to each of the participating countries. Aside from international food and drink, you can buy all sorts of crafts, clothes, art and souvenirs. Each day the festival starts at 13:00and runs through the night. Be sure to show your spirit by dressing in your own national attire and have fun dancing to international music and celebrating the cultures from around the globe.

Old WiFi Routers and Mobile Phones

Does anyone in Digameland know what I can do with a couple of WiFi Routers I have, they have been used but are back in their boxes complete with everything they came with.

Some of our AAR dogs do not have foster carers and have to live in kennels. Our Kennel Angels do a wonderful job of helping to prepare these dogs for adoption.

Recommendation Brilliant Job Dr Laptop

May I say a huge thank you to Naythan for fixing all the problems I had on my laptop, so much junk kept appearing and I couldn’t get rid of it even after buying so called programmes to rid me of it.  After tearing my hair out for months something had to give so I took it to Naythan who has cleaned the whole system and put protection on against receiving all this rubbish.  Wonderful job Naythan, thank you.  Such a worthwhile trip to Nerja.

Recommendation- Sorting out Lack of Phone Signal…….

G at barrancodeplanos was wondering what to do about lack of mobile phone signal.  We had exactly the same some time ago (it’s still poor) and tried to tackle it with an external mobile antenna and “fixed high-power mobile”, but with limited success.

As you have a good broadband service, all you need to do is get hold of a VoIP Adaptor. This is a small box (about the size of a pack of cards) which plugs into your broadband cable, and into which you can plug any standard landline-type phone (including DECT cordless ones, so you can wander round the house).

The advantage of a VoIP (voice over internet protocol) adaptor is that it operates independent of your computer, or anything else you connect to your incoming broadband.

You will need to contract for VoIP Telephone services, which you can either do on the recommendation of your ISP provider, or you can choose your own company for phone services and billing.

We have used Adam Telefonia (http://adam.es/services/communications/vozip) for some years.  They provide a highly professional and reliable service. There is a small monthly charge (about €9) and calls are dirt cheap, even to overseas mobiles.  You will be given a large choice of phone numbers, or can ‘migrate’ one with you.  The phone account/billing is online, and you can top up online as well.  People calling you will be billed as if they are calling a landline number.   Chris, Sayalonga

I suggest you list your programme of events & send it Tues/ Weds for inclusion in the Thursday Issue.

Identification Information for Everyone

I will not be able to publish your entries unless you have included your name, location & contact information ( phone number &/or email address)

I had 8 (!) people email me today without this information. Unbelievable!

Faulty Submissions.

If I have time, I can email you to ask for corrections, extra info. etc. etc.

However, if I don’t have the time then your email will simply be deleted on

a daily basis along with all the others received that day.

Negative Reviews

The rules for Blogs have changed and it now means that I could face a fine if I publish any negative reviews of any person or company – even though it may be true or half true.
