Good News for Android Tablet and SmartPhone Lovers

plus Safe Internet Access for XP/Vista Users

Android (Marshmallow) is now available for computers. Works with or without a touchscreen. You now have a good, free, familiar alternative to Windows. Android can be installed to replace Windows, or installed beside your existing Windows installation so you get to choose which system to load when you power up your computer; this is called a “dual boot” setup in tech-speak. A dual-boot setup is a good way to access the internet safely from an older and now obsolete Windows XP or Vista system which should not be used for internet access any longer!

-I can convert your computer to Android and set up your apps for €60. Note this will erase all your data. If you want me to save your data and copy it back into your new Android system there is an additional charge.
-I can “dual boot” install Android while keeping your current Windows system and data intact. Dual boot install with Windows 7 is €80, for Windows 8/10 the charge is €100. If you want me to copy your Windows data files into the Android system there is an extra charge.
-Another choice is for me to create an Android bootable USB Flash drive (memory stick) or DVD for you. Just plug it into your computer and power up. Your computer will now be running Android while not affecting your Windows system. With this setup any saved data will be lost when you shutdown the computer. A benefit of this method is that none of your passwords or banking details remain in the computer after shutdown, so a lost or stolen computer won’t mean you have to cancel all your cards and change all your passwords. The cost for this is €30, plus the cost of the Flash drive or blank DVD. I will need to change a few settings in your computer for this to work.

Breaking News:  FilmOn TV Has Stopped It’s Free Service
It looks like FilmOn is no longer providing a free service on their site or with the HDi player. This apparently also blocks other services/sites that used the free version of FilmOn as a content source.  Viewing FilmOn now requires a paid subscription. Of course, we only use FilmOn to view programming we are legally entitled to watch. DigameXtra does not promote or encourage TV piracy. If you liked FilmOn you should consider subscribing. What’s on– Art Exhibition – May 11th, Table Mountain Comares 

Exhibition of paintings by the great local artist Ursula Williams. Grand opening on the 11th of May at 19.00. On 25th May, last day of the exhibition, there will be a raffle of the painting “Gato Tuerto” (one eyed cat) to raise funds for GADAH (Give A Dog A Home). Price of each ticket is 2€ and they will be available at the bar from April 23rd.

Ursula has donated her beautiful painting “Gato Tuerto” (blind cat) to raise funds for GADAH (Give A Dog A Home), our local dog charity. A hearty well done to Paul, Caroline, PJ, family and staff of the former El Pino restaurant and bar in Torrox Park, who made a timely and efficient transition to the Tabla Restaurant across the road!

The new premises are lovely and clean with well-spaced tables and with wonderful views from the two balconies.

The Sunday Carvery lunch was superb with a good choice of meats and vegetables, followed by an excellent fruit crumble and custard dessert.

The Torrox Pueblo Art Group starts again for its summer session on the 10 May and will run for 10 weeks until the 12 July.

Increase in DAFO Charges – Cómpeta Town Hall

We want to alert anyone currently marketing or planning to market their property in the Cómpeta countryside to the fact that the Town Hall have drastically increased their charges for the DAFO certificate.  We only found out by pure chance.

Having already paid over €1,000 for our property to be measured and for the DAFO application to be submitted to the Town Hall we were expecting to pay €980 for the certificate.

We have since found out that we will now have to pay €3,300!.

Just a slight increase….!

Help with iTunes Please

Is there a Knowlegeable Digamite out there who knows more than a thing or two about “iTunes”?

I’m having a few irritations regarding “Adding files to the library”

Have been doing it for years but a couple of odd probs have cropped up recently.

Have checked the net but advice on forums etc is a bit hit and miss.( not to mention jargon from the planet “Zog”)

Final Post on Poo……

Why is it that Michael thinks that a lot, repeat lot- of dog owners are irresponsible about picking dog poo up.

My wife and I walk the river bank at Torrox Costa every Sunday and every dog owner we see appears to use doggy bags.

There are no bins along this area but we wait until we get to a bin to dispose of said doggy bag and -not seeing any bags laying around – would assume that most people do the same, why tar everyone with the same brush ?

41 Club Nerja AGM

At the AGM of 41 Club Nerja Jim Skinner from England handed over the Chairmans jewel to Martin Urban from Austria.

Jim was thanked for his fun packed year which resulted in nine new members.  Martin told us of his plans for the next twelve months which includes a boat trip, BBQ,  Ladies Night and many other events.

He plans to involve our ladies more than usual which went down very well with the members.

His year plan can be seen on our website.

41 Club Nerja now has 45 members from nine different countries and is truly an International Club.

We meet twice every month with a meeting on the first Thursday of the month at lunch time with our ladies called ‘Munch Bunch’ and on the third Thursday of the month we have our ‘normal’ meeting where the many events listed above will happen.

Most of our members are only in Spain for short stays during the year so please if you are an Ex Round Tabler visiting Nerja or nearby now and then contact us and join in the fun.

AAR Dog of the Week

 

 

Dog Owners – please think !!

Why is it that a lot of dog owners/walkers refuse to take responsibility for the faeces left by their animals on campo roads, particularly unmade roads? These roads are also used by pedestrians – including children – and vehicles.

The dog faeces is often picked up by tyres, which spread the stuff everywhere, thus making it more liable to be walked in.

The dog mess is a magnet for flies, bluebottles and wasps, especially now the warmer weather is arriving, It is unsightly and a blot on the landscape.

Not a perfect solution – but at the very least move the dog or the faeces to the grassy/overgrown sides of the roads.

Is it possible to have a little more thought, and a lot more hygiene please?

Warning – Wallet Stolen !

I had my wallet stolen today whilst walking around Nerja market.

I  had €150 taken plus cards which I have cancelled.

If anyone finds a black wallet with a driving licence & NIE  card still inside would you kindly contact Tim Willcox on 07860346636.

Whoever took it tried to use the card at Tor del Mare within an hour of it being taken but luckily it was declined.

On Saturday 29^th April The Phoenix Club has a trip to the Fuengirola International Day.  La Feria Internacional de Los Pueblos is one of the most anticipated events of the spring on the Costa del Sol. With over 1 million visitors per year, the Fair is a great way to learn about cultures from around the world without leaving the Costa del Sol. The five day cultural festival hosts over 33 countries and will feature music, dance and foods from all over the world. Spanish regions such as: Madrid, Basque Country and Valencia will be represented this year as well.

Entrance to the event is free of charge but there is a small fee for food and drinks at the “casetas” or booths, which are allocated to each of the participating countries. Aside from international food and drink, you can buy all sorts of crafts, clothes, art and souvenirs. Each day the festival starts at 13:00and runs through the night. Be sure to show your spirit by dressing in your own national attire and have fun dancing to international music and celebrating the cultures from around the globe.

Trip to Gibraltar 5^th May

The Phoenix Club are off on their next shopping trip to Gibraltar on Friday the 5th May and we have a few seats still available.

We have pick ups at the A1 Garden Centre, Torre del Mar bus station and finally at Algarrobo Lidl at 08.30.

The bus is parked in Morrisons car park and we leave Gibraltar at 16.30.  Due to visa restrictions on entering Gibraltar, please advise if you are a non EU citizen when you book.  Also it is important to remember to bring with you your EHIC card, just in case, and passports are essential.  On the way to Gibraltar we stop to spend a penny and for coffee.

We would greatly appreciate if payment was made before the journey.

The price?  €12pp includes a €1 gratuity for the driver.  Children under 12 can join us for 1/2 price.   Still the best value on the coast!
Early booking is recommended if you like a particular place, as seat numbers are allocated on a first come, first served basis.  Plenty to see in Gibraltar apart from the shopping!

Trip to Orgiva Tea Gardens Friday 19^th May

The Orgiva Tea Garden has evolved over the last ten years from a barren patch of land with waist high weeds into a beautiful tranquil garden split over three very different levels and covering about 5000 sq m.

Ronda Romantica  Feria Saturday 27^th May

During the three day festivities, locals and visitors are taken on a voyage of discovery to 19^th century Spain, a time of bandits, muleteers and romantic travellers.

Hundreds of locals from Ronda and the surrounding towns and villages participate in this unique recreation of 19^th century life in this stunning part of Andalucia.

Dressed in typical clothes and garments of the time, these colourful characters take part in a historical street parade and representations of different historic events. The sound and smell of gunpowder, artisans markets and equestrian exhibitions are just some of experiences enjoyed by visitors during the celebrations.

The locals also spend hours decorating the streets and shop windows of the city with colourful and eye-catching flowers, plants and banners, transforming Ronda into the most romantic of destinations.

Another of the unquestionable stars of the event are the horses which are also dressed in stunning attire, typical of the 19^th century, and their elegant riders also wearing their traditional garments.

AAR Appeal for Abandoned

Please can anyone give the lovely Archie a home?

He is ten years old and has been rescued from the street as he was very thin and obviously not coping. We think he has previously been owned as he is happy to be handled. He has tested negative for FIV and Leukaemia, but some of his internal organs are not where they should be. This isn´t causing him a problem but he does need a stress free life and therefore would be unable to undertake a long journey. He is currently at the vets as we have nowhere for him to go. Even a foster home would be a huge help while we search for a forever home for him.

This is a lovely example of a fast appreciating collectible classic.

I think this is because of the cheap maintenance, quirky lines fun

drive and functionality.

It has exceptional ground clearance and is actually better than our every day car and gets in and out of the campo without any issues whatsoever even though the track to our house is fairly rutted where we live –

the underside has never been scraped by me.

Even with the high clearance this is a sports car and has superb road holding through bends etc.

This car has been well maintained having had complete engine rebuild by the previous owner, 4 new tyres. It presents very well though is not perfect, this wasn’t a trailer queen and has been used regularly by me.

It benefits from having had a full professional valet, which included a specialist paint treatment which minimizes paint fading and makes it far easier to clean the paintwork. The soft top was new but some oik took a shine to the car stereo and cut the roof to get in and steal it. It was repaired and is completely waterproof though the repair can be seen.

The interior also presents well. I have enjoyed my ownership it truly is a fun little car to drive about with the wind in your hair on winding mountain roads.

We need to buy a large 7 seater 4×4 as more family members are coming to live with us, so sadly it has to go.

It is Left hand drive with Spanish plates, ITV’d and correct documentation in my name.

Recommendation-  Paint supplier

There are a couple of good ways to “blind out” stains and mould-marks on walls, before using normal emulsion paint for the final finish:

– Apply a coat of PVA (poly vinyl acetate), diluted with water enough to make it brushable/rollerable.  This adheres really well to the wall, and remains slightly tacky ready for the top coat.  It forms an impermeable membrane, through which mould will not penetrate.

– An alternative, and just as effective, is to paint the wall with a coat or two of ‘caucho’.  The one I would recommend is TKrom brand ‘Antigotteras’, available in white and several colours.  This also forms a water/stainproof barrier, which can be overpainted.

Both the products above are water-based, but highly effective.  Pinturas Andalucia is a good place to get them.

Antigotteras also makes an excellent pool surround paint, as it is amazingly tough (will withstand jetwashing) and anti-slip; it is also massively cheaper than so-called dedicated pool-edge paints.

We would also like to thank all the musicians and singers who made the TuesdayNight Jam/Open Mic sessions the success they were. Nerja 41 Club Donates to Taller de la Amistad

Chairman Jim Skinner and other members of 41 Club Nerja visited the new extension of the Taller de la Amistad association to donate 500 euros to help with much needed equipment.  We were greeted by a local TV crew who interviewed the staff and one of our members Ragnar who explained about our Club.  The visit was very worthwhile and enjoyed by all. We were given gifts of soap made by the association.

41 Club Nerja is made up of 45 Ex Round Tablers from 10 different Countries in Northern Europe and are always looking for new members.  We meet on the first and third Thursdays of the month.  The first sees us taking our ladies our for a menu del dia and are very popular.  On the third Thursday we have our ‘normal’ meeting for the men at the Al Andaluz in Maro near the caves.  Many of these meetings are shared with our ladies if we have good speakers or an ourt visit such as a boat trip, BBQ etc

Thursday 27^th April – A presentation Evening on Astronomers through the Ages.  

Lux Mundi, Torre del Mar invite friends to join them at the Centre for a power point presentation by Peter Cadman. The talk introduces you to Astronomers through the ages telling the story of the people who first started using the stars and constellations to guide them through their lives in the two hemispheres and then following the progress of Astronomy with the Arabs, Greeks and Romans continuing up through the middle ages with well known names such as “Hipparchus 190 – 125BC”,”Galileo 1564 – 1642″,”Edwin Hubble 1889 – 1953″ and up to the present day in Cosmology and Astrophysics. Peter will also give a brief history of their most famous discoveries. The price includes the talk and afterwards a supper of salad, chicken curry with rice, pudding and a bottle of wine between 4 people, there is also a vegetarian option. Ticket price 12 Euros available at the Centre.Fundraising event.  Time 17.00 for 17.30.

What’s on –35 Hashers, Six Virgins, Two Easter Eggs, One Birthday Boy and a 10K Run 

Axarquia Hash House Harriers were out in force on Easter Sunday for Run 291 which took place in the Vinuela area.  Seasoned hares  Bunyan and Routemaster set a 10K-plus trail that was mainly on good track but they threw in a few hundred olive groves,  some steep-ish valleys and a couple of ploughed fields to stop us getting too comfortable! At the end of the hash Jammy Git and F Troop, who had both just completed their 200^th run, were each awarded a Cadbury’s Crème Egg. A post-hash curry put back all the calories we’d burned off, after which we celebrated Routemaster’s 68^th   birthday with an excellent carrot-and-other-healthy-things cake made by our very own Null Points.

With good weather here to stay and minimal chance of rain for the coming months now is a good time to join Axarquia Hash Harriers and get fit for the summer.  Just click on Next Run for location and directions. All you need is suitable footwear and €4 per person to cover water, soft drinks, beer and crisps.  There’s always a post-hash meal, so you might also want to bring something to change into.

Wanted- Paint Supplier 

Does anyone know of a paint supplier for oil-based undercoat in the Malaga area please?

We successfully got rid of mould on walls but cleaning fluid showing through as stains on newly painted walls.

Have tried local paint shops but they only have water based paint.
