The Cala Mijas Festival with 5 Days Camping: 31 Aug – 5 Sept. Featuring Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Arctic Monkeys, Chemical Brothers and Kraftwerk
Three days of concerts and will have a camping area that can extend the experience of those who go to it up to five days. From the 31st of August to the 5th of September it will be possible to camp in the vicinity of the festival as long as you have contracted a ticket for it. The concert line-up features Arctic Monkeys as the main attraction for Thursday 1 September, being the only concert of this band in Spain on this tour, although not the only one in the Iberian Peninsula, as they will be playing at Kalorama in Lisbon on Friday 2. Alongside them on Thursday will be Bonobo, Chet Faket, Marc Rebillet, Albany, Sen Senra and 15 other artists. Exploding number of deaths in Spain illogically blamed on heat:

– The current MoMo report was published on July 26, 2022 and shows the “key results” since January 1, 2020.
– The number of deaths from January to July 2022 reflect “true barbarism”, said Guisasola. According to MoMo, 22,541 more people than expected died in the first seven months of the year. – According to MoMo statistics, there were a total of 24,490 more deaths in Spain in 2021 than expected. So how many additional deaths will there be by the end of 2022 compared to 22,541 in the first seven months of the year?
– Spanish media portal El Debate also reported that the official claim that the heat was responsible for the additional deaths was not credible.
– Health Minister Carolina Darias therefore felt compelled to declare that the MoMo numbers were only “an estimate” that “does not necessarily correspond to reality”.
– According to the MoMo report, there have been 115,203 “excess deaths from all causes” nationally since January 1, 2020. The high temperatures are only mentioned as the cause in 9,286 cases. Incidentally, over 90 percent of those over 12 years old in the country have had the experimental “vaccines”.
– Despite climate scare-mongering, the highest temperature in Spain was actually recorded in Ecija in the south with 47C in 1956.

Nerja to celebrate International Youth Day:
12 August in the Plaza Fábrica de los Cangrejos.
The programme of activities will begin at 9.30pm with a performance by Eterna Juventud. They will be followed by Unsuspected, Gymcosta Nerja, Alfonso Sánchez Rico, Zumba Gema and Jotxa, the magic show by Pablo Romón, Pablo Alcázar and finally the music group Proyecto Mandarina, which will put the finishing touch to this International Youth Day.

Torre del Mar Tourist Day with a giant cake for 4,500 people:
Thursday 25th August at 19:30 hours, on the Paseo Marítimo next to the lighthouse. The cake, made by the Torre del Mar chef Roberto Soler, will be 8 metres wide, “It will have a basic vanilla cake, cream and spiced syrup, and we will introduce motifs from the entire municipality, to promote tourism both in the highlands and inland areas”.

Noche en Blanco in Vélez-Málaga: Friday 19 August
More than thirty activities for all audiences will take place on the night of Friday 19 August in twenty cultural venues and spaces around the city for the enjoyment of locals and visitors and to boost the local economy.

Spain police start wearing bodycams to boost security:

Torre del Mar will host its first Break Season on Saturday 13th August: Spectators can see the break dancing competition in the afternoon. “We will have a professional jury, with people coming from various parts of Spain. There will be a speaker that entertain and guide you through the evening, and we’ll also have a DJ and an artist that will do ‘live looping’ live, which is a real spectacle.”
Registration will open at 18:00 hours with the confirmation of participants in the same place where you will then develop the competition. From 19:00 start the preliminary round or phase of filters to keep adding stages and knockout rounds to reach the grand final. The format will be a battle of two against two.

Procession of Virgen del Carmen in El Morche: The Virgin del Carmen is back out in the streets of El Morche the 15th of August in the traditional procession of the last day of the fair. At 20:00 will take place the solemn mass in honour of the Virgin, and at 21:00, after the mass, the Patron saint of the town of El Morche will go through the streets of the town centre in an emotional procession full of feeling.

Regulating the temperature and switching off lights and shop windows, the first measures to come into force on Wednesday: {Translation in full} 8 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS)
– The Third Vice-President of the Government and Minister for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, has ruled out on Monday that she will modify or postpone the entry into force of the energy saving decree, whose first measures come into force this Wednesday, despite the request for its withdrawal by Andalusia, Castile and Leon, the Community of Madrid, Galicia and Murcia.
– Limiting the use of air conditioning to 27 degrees in summer and heating to 19 degrees in winter in public buildings, commercial spaces and department stores, transport infrastructures (airports, train and bus stations), cultural spaces and hotels, as well as turning off the lights in shop windows and public buildings that are unoccupied after 22.00 hours will be the first measures to come into force this Wednesday.
– This is included in the first package of energy saving and efficiency measures approved by the government to rapidly reduce energy consumption in order to comply with European commitments arising from the conflict in Ukraine. In the case of all these initiatives, they will be valid until 1 November 2023.
– Health and hospital centres, training centres (schools, universities and nurseries), hairdressing salons, laundries, gyms and means of transport (trains, planes, airports, ships, etc.) will be excluded from the obligation to limit the temperature, so that it does not fall below 27 degrees in summer or exceed 19 degrees in winter.
– Also exempted are those centres where exemptions are necessary due to the specificities of the sector, as well as, in the case of hotels, the rooms, which are privately regulated. The rest of the hotel (e.g. restaurants, cafeteria, common areas) would apply.
– In this way, the established temperature limits will apply to the interior of habitable establishments that are conditioned, located in buildings and premises for administrative use (including office floors or areas, general lobbies and areas for public use), commercial use (shops, supermarkets, department stores, shopping centres and similar) and cultural use (theatres, cinemas, auditoriums, congress centres, exhibition halls and similar), as well as in establishments for public shows and recreational activities, catering (bars, restaurants and cafeterias) and passenger transport (stations and airports).
– However, the Minister for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, specified on Friday that bars and restaurants can limit the use of air conditioning to “around 25 degrees”, taking into account the recommendations of labour legislation, as opposed to the 27 degrees contemplated in the royal decree on energy saving and efficiency measures approved by the government.
– In this sense, she clarified that the 27 degrees will be applied “with flexibility” and gave as an example that discotheques, kitchens and gyms need a different temperature to other spaces such as a bookshop. “It is not possible to ask workers who are in conditions of significant physical exercise not to have the conditions that labour law guarantees with respect to the maximum and minimum temperatures,” Ribera said in statements to Onda Cero, reported by Europa Press.
– For this reason, shops and establishments will have to justify when they do not apply the temperature limit on the thermostat, a flexibility incorporated into the decree law to protect the occupational health rights of their workers.
– With regard to the switch-off of shop window lighting, the switch-off timetable from 22.00 hours will apply exclusively to shop window lighting and lighting in public buildings that are unoccupied at that time. It shall not apply to the ornamental lighting of monuments (unless they are public buildings which are unoccupied at that time).
– As regards the installation of signage, signs and displays- buildings to which the temperature limitation applies shall inform, by means of information signs or the use of displays, about energy-saving implementing measures relating to air temperature limits, as well as information on temperature and humidity (thermometers must be visible to building users), door opening, servicing and maintenance regimes. They may also provide information on other measures they are taking on a voluntary basis and the signs should be visible from the entrance or access to the buildings. The starting date of the measure is one month after the publication of the regulation in the Official State Gazette, i.e. 2 September, and it will be in force, in principle, until 1 November 2023.
– With regard to the obligation to have an adequate door locking system, it will apply to buildings and premises with access from the street, intended for the same uses as those to which the temperature limit would apply. In this measure, no exclusions are considered, unless the safety legislation applying to the building or premises prevents compliance with this obligation. The deadline for adaptation is 30 September and there is no deadline for compliance.
– Commercial spaces, public buildings, cultural spaces and hotels that fail to comply with the energy saving and efficiency plan approved by the government will face fines of up to 60,000 euros for minor offences, up to six million euros for serious offences and up to 100 million euros for very serious offences.
– Sources from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism have explained to Europa Press that the penalties to be applied will be those set out in the Regulation on Thermal Installations in Buildings (RITE), in turn provided for in articles 30 to 38 of Law 21/1992, of 16 July, on Industry, on administrative offences.

Lorry with crane stolen in bungled attempt to steal cash machine from Nerja supermarket car park: Guardia Civil police officers are investigating the theft of a lory with a crane from a building materials company in Nerja which was used to steal a cash machine located in the car park of the town’s Lidl supermarket. The incident took place on Sunday evening, SUR has been able to confirm.
– The thieves allegedly first gained access to the warehouse of the company Hermanos Jimena, located next to the Rapto de Europa monument at the entrance to Nerja on the old N-340 road. Chilches Town Fair: 11 to 14 August {Translation, summary}
– It will celebrate its traditional fair in honour of its patron saint, the Immaculate Conception and the Sacred Heart of Jesus, with an extensive programme for all ages.
– Thursday 11 August, from 18.00 hours, with a children’s party for the little ones with a snack and different games, as well as performances.
– On Friday 12 August, at 9.00 a.m., the Diana Floreada will take place and at 20.30 p.m. the fair will be inaugurated with a parade from the Plaza de la Constitución to the fairgrounds. The evening will include dance performances, the awarding of medals to the participants in the children’s games and the election of the Queens of the fiesta, ladies of honour, children’s, youth and senior Mister. The evening will end at 1.00 a.m. with a musical performance by Los Electroduendes.
– On Saturday 13 August, at 12.00 hours, there will be a parade with Charanga and at 13.00 hours there will be a great moraga with a tasting of sardines with the collaboration of 1 euro, ajoblanco and gazpacho, courtesy of the Women’s Association of Chilches. Crew strike at Ryanair: 44 flights with delays in Malaga and Seville: {Translation} 08/08/2022 19:50h.
– The Irish airline Ryanair has suffered delays on 44 flights to or from Andalusian bases coinciding with the start of the new strike call for cabin crew (TCP). Nationally, its flights have been affected by ten cancellations and 233 delays.
– The flights affected by delays were 38 in Malaga and 6 in Seville. The cancellations at national level were between Barcelona and Milan, Menorca, Rome and London, return flights, as well as between Palma de Mallorca and Hamburg, also return flights.
– In terms of delays, the airports most affected were Palma de Mallorca, with 55 delays; Barcelona and Malaga, with 38; Alicante, with 24, and Madrid, with 23.
– Ryanair has indicated that the new strike call for Ryanair’s flight attendants, which began on Monday, will have a “minimal, if any, disruption” to the company’s operations.
– The airline said in a statement that it has recently reached an agreement with “the main Spanish union”, CC.OO. on wages, ‘rosters’ (four days on followed by three days off) and allowances for its Spanish cabin crew.

– Did you know that Pesto is thought to have two predecessors in ancient times, going back as far as the Roman age? The ancient Romans used to eat a similar paste called moretum, which was made by crushing garlic, salt, cheese, herbs, olive oil, and vinegar (and sometimes pine nuts) together. During the Middle Ages, a popular sauce in the Genoan cuisine was agliata, which was basically a mash of garlic and walnuts, as garlic was a staple in the nutrition of Ligurians, especially for the seafarers. And were you aware that Spain has Romesco? It is a red paste of romesco chile peppers processed with tomatoes, sweet red peppers, pine nuts, garlic, and olive oil. France is famous for its Pistou (from Provence), a combination of basil, parsley, crushed garlic, and grated cheese. Pistou is used as an accompaniment to soupe au pistou, a hearty vegetable soup not unlike the Italian minestrone soup. And you can find a type of Pesto in Peru! Theirs is enhanced by the inclusion of spinach. They may use vegetable oil instead of olive oil and other nuts. However, you do not have to travel the world for an exquisitely satisfying PESTO. Water Shortage Malaga: {Translation} The La Viñuela reservoir is already below 12.5% of its capacity.
– The six reservoirs in Malaga closed the week at 45% of their capacity, with 278 cubic hectometres, which represents a decrease of almost 6 hectometres in the last seven days. They store a total of 16 hectometres less than those recorded just a year ago.

The La Viñuela reservoir is currently at 12.44% of its capacity, with just 20.44 cubic hectometres of the 164 that it can accumulate, which is almost half of what it stored at this time last year (43.85 hm3). One has to go back to October 2008 to find such worrying figures. On that date it reached an all-time low, and was at only 9% of its capacity.
– This reservoir, built on almost 6 kilometres of the river Guaro, collects water from a dozen other tributaries. These include the Benamargosa, Alcaucín and Granados rivers. It was created over an area of more than 500 hectares. It is almost 100 metres deep and 60% of its water is used for agricultural purposes. It was inaugurated 36 years ago and was completely filled for the first time in 1998.
– By contrast, the reservoir that accumulates the most water is the Guadalteba, at 67%, with 103 cubic hectometres available out of a total capacity of 153.
– The Guadalhorce stands at 35% of its capacity, with 44 hectometres, and the Conde del Guadalhorce, with another 38 hectometres, stands at 57%.

– Don’t Pay UK is calling for action against rising energy bills after the price cap is set to rise to a staggering £3,359 per year from October for the average household. This comes as inflation is forecasted to hit 13 per cent in a matter of months – it’s currently sitting at 9.4 per cent, the highest it’s been in 40 years.
– Cornwall Insight, one of the country’s most respected energy consultancies, said bills will hit a staggering £3,359 per year from October for the average household and then rise again to £3,615. However, some experts warn it could go higher, as much as £3,994 in January, according to Energy consultancy Auxilione.
– It was reported earlier this week that BP’s second-quarter profits trippled to £7 billion as oil and gas prices surge.
– In the wake of this news, and taking into account the toll the rising cost of living is taking on millions of Brits, Don’t Pay UK is aiming to get one million households to pledge to not pay their bills in an attempt to force energy companies to reduce bills.
– The same tactic, to what the campaign is suggesting, was brought into action in the late 1980s and ’90s to fight against the poll tax brought in by PM Margaret Thatcher. In protest, 17 million people refused to pay. – The voluntary recall was in response to battery defects in a number of BMW manufactured electric vehicles built between November 22, 2021, and June 30, 2022, the notice said.
– Around 83 units of 2022-2023 iX xDrive50, iX M60, 2022 i4 eDrive40 and i4 M50 vehicles are estimated to be affected by the defect, which comes with the risk of an electrical short-circuit that could trigger a fire.
– BMW advised vehicle owners not to drive or charge the vehicles that were facing the defect. Owners were also told to park their vehicles outside and away from buildings until the repairs are completed. “Dealers will replace the high voltage battery, free of charge,” BMW said. The company said that notification letters are expected to be mailed to owners Sept. 19. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
– This is the second recall in two months for the i4 and iX after BMW called the EVs in for a potential software glitch in the driver’s display when the vehicles were put into Valet Mode.

LaLiga & Movistar Will Block Spanish IPTV Pirates, No Court Process Needed: Top-tier football league LaLiga and subscription TV platform Movistar Plus+ have won a joint lawsuit in Spain that allows them to block IPTV services until 2025 without needing permission from the courts. A second lawsuit won by Movistar Plus+ allows the TV platform to advise local ISPs of piracy-facilitating sites on a weekly basis and have them blocked within three hours. Once new URLs, domains, and IP addresses of pirate services are identified as infringers of the companies’ rights, blocking of the same will take place on a weekly basis, with no need to identify the Court in advance.
– “The blockade must be carried out within a maximum period of three hours from the notification of new list,” Telefónica explains, adding that the list does not need to be approved by the court and covers all Movistar Plus+ content, not just football matches. Twitter Scandal- Hackers Exploit Twitter Vulnerability to Expose/Sell 5.4 Million User Accounts Info, While Twitter Itself Used Confidential Information Account Holders Provided for Security Verification for Advertising Purposes Without Their Consent For Over 5 Years: Twitter on Friday revealed that a now-patched zero-day bug was used to link phone numbers and emails to user accounts on the social media platform. “As a result of the vulnerability, if someone submitted an email address or phone number to Twitter’s systems, Twitter’s systems would tell the person what Twitter account the submitted email addresses or phone number was associated with, if any,” the company said in an advisory. No passwords were exposed as a result of the incident.

New Telephone Scam- The Police register 15 complaints of telephone fraud in Almería, Granada, Jaén and Málaga:

Spain’s Government clarifies its savings plan and lowers the air conditioning limit in bars and shops to 25 degrees:

Instead, tell them you enjoy Emilio el Moro. That is sure to bring a smile to their faces, and gain you some respect for your knowledge of lesser known Spanish legends.
– Emilio Jiménez Gallego (2 November 1923 – 12 July 1987) was born in the Spanish enclave of Melilla. He was a fan of Flamenco from childhood, and in 1939 at fifteen years of age, he performed in public for the first time, and then went on to consecutively win seven singing competitions, performing different genres, like fandangos, soleás, tientos, polos or cañas. Charming and a joker, he one day sang Flamenco in an Arabic style, and received such an ovation that he then decided to create the character of Emilio el Moro. This character gained him a huge following as he mixed music and humour in a way that endeared him to Spaniards young and old, rich and poor. The great voice, remarkable guitar skills and well timed humourous flairs combined to make him a unique legend of Spanish music.
– The personality with which he endowed his songs, even allowed him to camouflage his social and cultural criticism against the system, against the dictatorship, partially relieved of the burden with humor. – The National Police will have a team from the Unit of Attention to Families and Women (UFAM) available 24 hours a day. How, in theory, it’s now easier for foreigners to work and get residency in Spain, but experts are skeptical:
– Spain has amended its immigration laws to make it easier for non-EU citizens (UK nationals, Americans etc) to work in the country in a bid to address some of its most pressing labour shortages. Here are the changes, the reasons why they’re being introduced and more.
– There are three main changes:
1. Undocumented third-country nationals who have lived in Spain for two years or more can seek temporary residency papers.
2. Non-EU students will be able to work up to 30 hours a week while studying, and to start work in Spain at the end of their studies.
3. Non-EU nationals will be able to obtain a work visa to come to Spain more easily and take up jobs in areas facing labour shortages i.e. tourism, construction, agriculture.
– Although the new laws were published in Spain’s state bulletin (BOE) on Wednesday July 27th, the legislation is set to come into force on August 15th 2022.
– Warning: When it comes to Spanish politics, what Spain says it will do and then actually does are often two very different things.
People in Spain with non-EU qualifications are currently having to wait two, three, four or even more years for Spain’s bureaucratic labyrinth to get round to validating their qualifications, even though the legal deadline is just six months and there are huge shortages in their expert fields. New decrees have promised to address the hold-ups but in reality nothing has changed. A lawyer specialising in helping foreigners with the homologación process told The Local that “unless Spain allocates more budget to employ more competent civil servants to address the problem, nothing will change”.

Slowdown in employment and sharp rise in number of people seeking work made this July the worst in Spanish history:
– Summer is normally a positive time for the labour market, but this year there has been a noticeable slowdown in employment in Spain as a whole. The government had already warned that the figures for July were likely to be bad, but they have been even worse than expected. In fact, it was the worst July since records began, even though the labour market had remained very robust for many months despite the war in Ukraine, high prices and supply problems. – The decree on energy saving and efficiency measures makes it compulsory for public buildings, commercial spaces and department stores, transport infrastructures (airports, train and bus stations), cultural spaces and hotels to limit the use of air conditioning to 27 degrees Celsius in summer and heating to 19 degrees Celsius in winter.
– In addition, it will be compulsory to install information panels in establishments containing data on the temperature at any given time and guidelines for recommended lifestyle habits to reduce energy consumption. This package of measures, which complements RITE, will also make it compulsory to turn off the lights in shop windows and public buildings that are unoccupied after 22.00 hours, a measure for which they will have seven days to comply.

Solar storm from hole in the sun’s atmosphere will hit Earth on Wednesday: High-speed solar winds from a “hole” in the sun’s atmosphere are set to hit Earth’s magnetic field on Wednesday (Aug 3.), triggering a minor G-1 geomagnetic storm. Forecasters at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) made the prediction after observing that “gaseous material is flowing from a southern hole in the sun’s atmosphere,” according to Spaceweather.com.
