And after strolling around, why not indulge in a healthy, filling, and absolutely delicious meal? May I suggest Albondigas de Verduras with Salsa de Tomate Casera? – The Bio Beach lectures will start again on the second Wednesday in September, more precisely on Sept. 14th at 11am. We have an exciting program planned for you delivered by Louis C., a U3A member who is a retired Chef. He’ll bring you a fascinating lecture entitled: “Let’s Talk Rice” which will include its history, various types of rice, traditional ways of preparing this staple food for various cultures, etc… These U3A programmes are free, just order refreshments. Calendar That Includes Local Holidays- Tutorial: {DigameXtra}
This website is in Spanish and covers all of Spain. I will provide instructions so English speakers can find the calendar for their village/town/city.
This calendar shows local holidays not on the Official Junta de Andalucia website calendar of holidays. Often these local holidays are specific to the particular town, and not are celebrated elsewhere the same day.
I will use Algarrobo in Malaga for an example.
– Visit this website: https://www.foro-ciudad.com/
– Click on your province. (Click Malaga) A list of towns will appear.
– Click on your town. (Click Algarrobo). A list of forum post titles will appear.
– Scan down the list of titles of forum posts till you see “Calendario-laboral-2022”.
– Click that post title to open the calandar.

COVID & MONKEYPOX

First monkeypox virus death recorded in Andalucía, the second in Spain: The Junta de Andalucía’s Ministry of Health has confirmed that a 31-year-old man has died of monkeypox virus, the first death from the virus in the region. He had been admitted to the intensive care unit at the Reina Sofía university hospital in Cordoba.
– There are currently 525 confirmed cases of monkeypox in Andalucía, with the highest number being in Malaga (246), Seville (115) and Cadiz (60) provinces. According to the National Epidemiological Network (RENAVE) of Spain, a total of 4,298 cases have been recorded in the country so far.

– This first death in Andalucía is the second in Spain. Both victims were men and died of encephalitis associated with the monkeypox virus. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/andalucia/first-monkeypox-virus-death-20220801121159-nt.html

SPAIN

Spain will experience higher temperatures and less rainfall than usual until November: {Translation, summary}
– August begins as July ended, with intense heat in much of the country, with temperatures up to 10 degrees higher than normal depending on the area. With a view to the future, not only is August expected to follow this line of infrequent scorching weather, but also September and October will be hotter and less rainy than previous reference periods, according to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), in accordance with long-term prediction models.
– Since June, there have been several prolonged and consecutive episodes of thermometers reaching at least 40 degrees Celsius. AEMET spokesman Rubén del Campo has warned that the start of autumn will not bring an abrupt drop in temperature; over the next three months it seems that it will continue to rain less than normal and temperatures will remain warmer.
– Specifically, he points out that the quarterly forecast, according to the most feasible scenarios, points to an August-October period with a 60% probability of being warmer than normal in most of the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands. In fact, there is only a 10% chance of below-average temperatures in the coming months.
– As for rainfall, he sees no clear trend in the eastern third of the peninsula, i.e. on the Mediterranean side, nor is there one for the Balearic Islands. In the rest of the Peninsula and the Canary Islands, the models do observe a 45% probability that the quarter formed by August, September and October will have less rain than normal and only a 20% probability that it will be more rainy. Supreme Court of Spain allows second-hand home buyers to claim damages directly from developers: The supreme court has recognized the right of a dozen buyers of second-hand homes to claim damages, flaws and improvements found in their homes from developers if they do not correspond to the initial offer. The judges of the civil chamber understand that, although these affected bought their homes from previous owners and not directly from the promoters, they have the right to have these companies pay for the improvements to the doors and cabinets that were of inferior quality. The Government proposes that official secrets can remain classified for more than 50 years: State secrets can be secrets forever with the current law, which was enacted in 1968. The Government approves this Monday the Draft Law on Classified Information with which it intends to replace that Francoist rule and adapt Spanish legislation to EU standards , but also NATO. The main novelty of the text is that a maximum term will be established in general for the information that the State wants to restrict to remain opaque. “The periods for declassification of documentation range from four to 50 years, and may be extended in some cases,” government sources report. ANDALUCIA

Until Friday, heat and more suffocating heat in Andalusia: {Translation}
– Andalusia will maintain high temperatures that may exceed 42 degrees in the Guadalquivir Valley from Monday until part of Thursday, and will experience a generalised decrease over the weekend, due to the arrival of a southeasterly wind.
– This has been indicated by the territorial delegate of Aemet, Juan de Dios del Pino, in which he explained that temperatures close to 42 degrees will be reached in Jaen, Cordoba and Seville, where the orange heat alert will be activated. “Almeria, Granada and Malaga will follow this line, although to a lesser extent, having yellow warnings,” he added.
– However, he pointed out that from Friday there will be “a drop in temperatures, which will be between five and six degrees, so the week will end with 35-36 degrees inland”. The Costa del Sol will escape this drop, as a “slight upturn” is estimated for Saturday and Sunday, days on which thermometric values may increase.
– Del Pino pointed out that the reason for the thermal behaviour of this period is due to the expansion of “a south-westerly wind produced only during the afternoons that will arrive after the highs have occurred”, so that “there will not be a drop in daytime temperatures for the first half of the week”.
– Along these lines, he stressed that in the second half of the week this wind “will be constant, blowing practically all day, and, although it will not be particularly strong, it will lower temperatures due to the Atlantic mass”. “Storms with little or no rainfall are also expected in the eastern sierras at the beginning of the week,” he stressed.
– With regard to the general forecast for August, Del Pino stressed that the forecast “is consistent with climate change”, so “temperatures are expected to rise and rainfall to fall”. Temperatures are expected to be one or two degrees above average and rainfall below normal, although this is not a cause for concern because August is not a particularly rainy month, with some exceptions where storms occur,” he remarked.
– Thus, the Aemet establishes a 60% probability for a scenario in which temperatures in August are above average, 30% for the case in which they may be around average, and 10% for temperatures to be below normal. “When working in the long term, several scenarios are established, and most of them point to above-average temperatures,” he concluded. MALAGA

Malaga metro and bus travel will be 30% cheaper from next month: The Junta de Andalucía has confirmed that it will be going ahead and introducing a 30% discount on Malaga metro and bus journeys from 1 September. It will be applied to the price of the city’s travel card and means that the cost of a suburban journey within Malaga will be 57 céntimos instead of 82. The regional government is implementing the discount, which is part of a recent package of measures aimed at alleviating the cost of living crisis, despite uncertainty about how much the government in Madrid will be contributing to the cost. Germany Admits On Twitter, TWICE, That Covid Vax Causing Severe Reactions in 1 Out of 5000 Doses Administered (.2 in 1000):
– The Paul Ehrlich Institute (PEI), which uses the handle “@PEI-Germany” is Germany’s federal institute for vaccines and biomedical drugs.
–  I have provided a link to the source report as well as the two tweets in original and English translation. Lower tweet says: “Correction: The reporting rate for serious reactions is as follows @PEI_Germany 0.2 reports per 1,000 vaccine doses.” The figure came from a PEI safety report summarizing suspected cases of side effects and vaccination complications that were reported to PEI between Dec. 27, 2020, when Germany launched its vaccination campaign, and March 31, 2022, titled “Report on suspected cases of side effects and vaccination complications after vaccination to protect against COVID-19 (reporting period December 27, 2020 to March 31, 2022)”.

On Twitter- Russia’s Plan For The Future of Europe?: {Translation, summary}
– A map circulating on Twitter Monday, in which the whole of Europe appears divided into new states or regions, proclaims one new region as the Independent Republic of Malaga. The authorship of this map is attributed to Russia, where according to the users who are sharing it on social networks, it is trending on Telegram.
– They call it the “decolonisation of Europe” and it would be produced after Russia’s supposed victory in the Ukrainian war. In it, Spain is divided into six states: the Republic of Galicia, the Kingdom of Navarre, the Republic of Catalonia, the Republic of Castile, the Republic of Valencia, and the Independent Republic of Malaga.
– It is difficult to know the veracity of this map, and whether it really comes from some Russian plan on how to divide Europe, but it is not the first map of this type to circulate on social networks.
– In 2017, in the midst of the crisis in Catalonia with the referendum and the unilateral declaration of independence, some Spanish media echoed a sketch broadcast by Russian television stations showing a divided Spain, with problems of secessionism not only in Catalonia, but also in the Balearic Islands, Valencia, the Basque Country, Asturias, Galicia, even Andalusia and Murcia.
