Nerja celebrates the XXXIII edition of its Day of the Pedal: It will be held next Monday, the 28th of February, with departure from the Park Summer Blue at 12.00 hours.
The Day of the Pedal will be held at a distance of four kilometres , which will run from the Park Summer Blue, calle Antonio Ferrandis Chanquete, calle San Miguel, Plaza Cantarero, Avda. Pescia, calle Rodríguez Acosta, street Gardens, street Graffiti, Plaza Cavana, street, Neighborhood, Avda. Castilla Pérez, Avda. Mediterranean, calle Chaparil, calle Jaén, calle Antonio Ferrandis Chanquete, until you get back to the Park, Summer Blue. As in previous editions there will be trophies for the cyclist more veteran and the person with the bike more original. Also will be raffled 30 bicycle and a trip between all the participants.
Entries can be made up to February 24 in the Office of Sports and in the Covered Pavilion of the Sports City, as well as in the Office of Tourism, located in the basement of the city Hall, or on the same day of the event until 11: 00 hours in the Park Summer Blue.

Procol Harum Frontman Gary Brooker Dead at 76: The singer-songwriter and pianist co-wrote and sang the band’s 1967 classic “A Whiter Shade of Pale”. Procol Harum broke up in 1977, after which Brooker launched a solo career and began touring and recording with his longtime buddy Eric Clapton. You will be free to discover this National History Monument with its archaeological remains. It appears the writers are not able to read even basic Spanish, they are using the inaccurate, free version of Google Translate and NOT proofreading the translations before printing them. In many cases the person posting them takes credit for writing the article without crediting the source. This is precisely why I provide my own translation, done with an advanced translator I pay for, and I proofread each article before posting it. I also provide links to the sources. I have repeatedly written the editors regarding this and they are not interested. My impression is the Spanish editors post these articles believing all English readers are tourists who are only here a short time and are not worth the extra effort of getting the story correct as long as it provides a place for them to pack with adverts. -Ed.

New Traffic Laws- these are the new rules that you must comply with if you are a driver, bike rider or scooter user: {Translation}
-What rules must be observed by users of scooters? Although these types of vehicles can apparently circulate freely, the truth is that despite not requiring any type of licence, they are subject to traffic regulations that must be complied with in order to avoid risks to their integrity and sanctions.
-For example, these devices can only circulate on urban roads. Under no circumstances may they do so on motorways or, of course, on highways. Furthermore, it is forbidden for them to travel on pavements, sharing the space with pedestrians, and their place is always on the carriageway. As far as cycle lanes are concerned, they may use them when the municipal ordinance of each locality so permits.
-Another aspect to bear in mind is that electric scooters can only be used by one person and users of this type of system must also comply with the same rules regarding alcohol and drug consumption as other drivers.
-In addition, a 0.0 blood alcohol limit for minors has been introduced for all vehicles, including scooters and bicycles.
-Users should also be aware that when riding an electric scooter or any other type of personal mobility vehicle, they should not wear headphones connected to music and sound receivers or players because they make it more difficult to perceive signs and situations that are important for the user’s safety.

The tyranny of mobile phones: OK, a related problem probably, but certainly not the same. I´m quite happy with the service in my local bank, but I´m sick and tired of the fact that both authorities and businesses automatically assumes that I have got at smartphone (or a mobile at least!). So now recently, I have been cut off internet shopping, because my bank demands that I download an App on my smartphone! I have got absolutely no use for such a device for other purposes and do not like it.
So, dear digamites: do any of you know of a bank, which does not do this?
Please don´t tell me that it is necessary for the security: sending a code to a simple mobile phone works too. (And I really do not understand why mobiles should be so secure (trusted?)- so many get lost or stolen!).

What is included for both is that if there are dogs of both sexes on the same site that cannot be separated, at least all male or all female dogs must be sterilised. In addition, hunting dogs that change hands, if they go to someone who is not on the future breeders’ register, will have to be sterilised or handed over with a sterilisation commitment.
-The major distinctions between these dogs in trade and the rest come from the fact that they are exempted from certain obligations. Article 33.2 does not apply to dogs dealing with livestock. And none of them are covered by Article 31(n) or Article 35(1) and (2). What do these points consist of?
-Article 33.2 reads: “The owners or, failing that, those responsible for the keeping of pets who habitually remain in open spaces and live with or may interact with other animals of the same species and different sex, shall be obliged to sterilise their pets”.
-With regard to paragraph 1 of article 35, they refer to the fact that “the owners or persons responsible for the dogs must have previously completed an accredited training course for dog ownership, the content of which shall be determined by regulation”. The content, formalities and management of this course are still a source of uncertainty for dog owners.
-Paragraph 2 states that “all dogs must meet the criteria for classification by sociability, complying with the mechanisms for validation of behaviour and socialisation determined by regulation”
-Hunting, herding and livestock guarding dogs that do not have sociability tests will be classified as “special handling dogs outside the specific activity”.
-This regulation drafted by the Ministry of Social Rights, which has begun its journey after its approval this Friday in the Council of Ministers, could come into force before the end of 2022. (No mention of exemptions to required classes for the elderly/disabled persons who cannot take classes, nor any mention of “personal service” dogs! -Ed.)

Brits & Americans Can Now Travel to Germany Under Facilitated Entry Rules: Fully vaccinated travellers from the United Kingdom and the United States will now be able to enter Germany under facilitated entry rules.

-Every day the media insist on reporting on the number of deaths caused by the coronavirus, when the reality is that we know neither the exact number nor the date to which they correspond. The lack of a single criterion for counting deaths caused by covid-19 has led at least eight autonomous communities to admit that they inflate their death figures to include those who died from another cause but with a positive diagnostic test. This situation has led to some Autonomous Communities with up to 20% of false deaths due to covid in their statistics, as Vozpópuli has been able to confirm through regional sources.
-The chaos is such that the Centro de Coordinación de Alertas y Emergencias Sanitarias (Ccaes) was unaware of the existence of this disparity of criteria. “We have always understood that the ACs only counted deaths due to covid, not covid and deaths due to other causes,” says a source close to the centre headed by Fernando Simón.
-These differences have led the Autonomous Regions to complain to the CCAES, which has recognised the existence of at least two problems in the count: the difference in criteria on what constitutes a covid death and the delay in sharing the data so that the Ministry can include it in the report. The ACs that do not distinguish between covid and covid deaths inflate their total number of deaths by up to 20%, although in some cases the gap is as much as 10%.
-The Ccaes considers that only deaths due to coronavirus, and no other cause, should be recorded in the Ministry of Health’s daily list. But both Carolina Darias and Fernando Simón’s department wash their hands of the matter and rule out imposing a common criterion for the whole of Spain. “There is not going to be a single criterion because detecting the cause of death is very complicated,” they say at the Ccaes.
-The issue that has most inflamed the communities, however, has been the delay with which some of them are notifying the deaths caused by coronavirus in their territories. For weeks now, Health has been offering in its report data on deaths in the last 7 days that do not correspond to reality because of the territories that report their data late.
-This error favours those that do badly in the media and harms those that do well. Every day, the media echo the figures of deaths without distinguishing this factor, which leads citizens to misjudge the situation in each territory. Moreover, it may even seem that in some regions people die more from coronavirus because they have worse care systems, when the reality is that they are quicker and more efficient at reporting data.
-The delays in the Autonomous Regions are not included in the specific seven-day data, but in the total, thus camouflaging the real situation. Last week, in fact, Catalonia updated its situation with the sum of 400 deaths due to coronavirus. When are these deaths from? The sixth wave? October? Previous?
-“The system penalises those who do their work on a daily basis,” say regional sources. The response of the Ccaes has not been long in coming and this week, in an attempt to please the Autonomous Regions, they have modified the daily report of Health with three asterisks in the “deaths in the last 7 days” where it is specified: “Due to delays in the notification of the deceased cases in some Autonomous Regions, these data are not comparable with each other”.
-As this newspaper published last week, the delay in the notification of deaths means that the Autonomous Regions have left 690 deaths in limbo between 31 January and 7 February. These are people who have been added to the total death toll without the date of death being specified. This makes it impossible to know how lethal covid is in each territory. A Creepy, Exceptionally Rare ‘Ghost Shark’ Chimaera Has Been Found in The Pacific: Researchers have discovered an exceptionally rare, newly hatched “ghost shark” near New Zealand’s South Island, according to the country’s National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA).

-Andalusia has seen a drop of 66 patients hospitalised for coronavirus in 24 hours, bringing the total number of hospitalised patients to 1,278 and bringing the total down for a week, while ICU admissions have fallen by ten to 151, a drop of 50 in the inter-weekly comparison. Spanish Police Arrest Six & Seize 24,400 Pirate IPTV Boxes: This morning (14Feb), Spain’s national police and the country’s tax agency announced the arrest of six people and the seizure of 24,430 IPTV boxes in Madrid. According to the authorities, the group sold the devices on various web platforms and via their own forum, from where technical support was provided to customers.

Texas Suing Meta/Fakebook Over Facial Recognition Technology-Seeking Hundreds Of Billions In Penalties: The lawsuit, filed in state court, claims Facebook’s use of facial recognition technology unlawfully “exploited” Texans without consent “billions of times.”

Dry winter drains reservoirs, ruins crops in Spain, Portugal: Roofs peeking out of the water have become a common sight every summer at the Lindoso reservoir in northwestern Spain. In especially dry years, parts would appear of the old village of Aceredo, submerged three decades ago when a hydropower dam flooded the valley.

-In the last three months of 2021, Spain recorded just 35% of the average rainfall it had seen during the same period from 1981 to 2010. But there has been almost no rain since then.
