COVID-19

Covid Andalucia- All of Andalucia except two districts of Almeria return to pre-Covid normality: {Translation}
-Almost all of Andalusia is now at Covid alert level 0. This means that pre-pandemic normality – except for the use of masks indoors – is now the norm in almost the entire community one year and eight months after 14 March 2020 when Spain was confined by the coronavirus.
-And what happens to the areas at alert level 0 by Covid? Life returns to the pre-pandemic situation. There are no restrictions of any kind: no restrictions on opening hours, capacity or number of diners. Only what the municipal regulations establish in each case. The only restriction for the time being is the use of masks indoors.
-This is the situation in which the vast majority of Andalusians will live from Thursday. And it is because the community, which has already achieved herd immunity by exceeding 90 percent of the target population vaccinated, can relax the rules that seek to minimise the Covid-19 pandemic. Covid Andalucia- No covid-19 deaths in the last day, with 216 cases and rate declining: {Translation} Updated: 13Oct21, 12:00
-Andalusia recorded a total of 216 cases of coronavirus infection on Wednesday 13 October, down from 232 the previous day and 264 a week ago, and recorded no deaths this day, the first time for more than three months – since 1 July 2021.
-For its part, the cumulative incidence stands at 29.6 per 100,000 inhabitants, so Andalusia remains at low risk level for coronavirus and down 1.8 points in 24 hours and 8.8 points in a week.
-The 216 infections on Wednesday follow 232 on Tuesday, 171 on Monday and Sunday, 236 on Saturday, 221 on Friday, 287 on Thursday and 264 on Wednesday.
-On this day, Malaga is the province with the most infections with 48, followed by Seville with 40, Huelva with 36, Almeria with 27, Granada with 25, Cadiz with 16, Jaen with 13 and Cordoba with eleven. Australia Continues Building Covid Detention Centers Despite Easing Some Lockdowns: The first glimpse of what the 1,000-bed quarantine facility at Wellcamp Airport outside Toowoomba will look like has been revealed. Two months after building works began, the Queensland government says the facility is on track to have 500 beds operational by the end of December.
The Wagner Corporation’s plans, released by the state government, show cabins split into different zones, accommodating singles, doubles, family rooms and options for accessibility.
At this stage, the cabins will be used by domestic travellers returning from COVID hotspots.
With home quarantine being trialled for a select number of returning Queenslanders next week, Deputy Premier Mr Miles defended the need for the state’s second quarantine facility.
“You will have heard the very strict criteria about who will qualify [for home quarantine], so there will still continue to be people from hotspots who might need to go into more secure accommodation,” he said. Halting Erosion using Vetiver:
From Vetiver Spain in Sayalonga
Our Nursery is open by appointment. Please email or call first. We have Moringa seedlings, Organic Moringa powder and Comfrey plants. We also have some local trees and some exotic trees from Africa.
Vetiver is a rapid growing and non-invasive sterile clump grass with a height of 1-2 metres and a root system of 3-4 metres in depth. We have been providing Vetiver throughout the EU for almost 10 years now. We are located in Sayalonga where we can plant year round but our best results by far start in February. The reason is that Vetiver is indigenous to India and Vetiver loves the heat of the summer. Use Vetiver cuttings as mulch around all of your fruit trees. Decomposing Vetiver improves soil quality, keeps the weeds down and the insects away all while helping to maintain soil moisture.
Vetiver is a nutritious and replenishable animal fodder. Horses and pigs love it. We use it in our chicken pens replacing hay because it stops mites.
In the 2 photos below you will see land prepared for Vetiver and the results 2 years later.
We also use Vetiver along driveways and sidewalks. It also makes a great and inexpensive ornamental hedge.
Here is a link to a short video showing the results.
https://youtu.be/rjTmb_LL2uo
We suggest planting now, as this is the BEST time of the year to plant.
To see more images of Vetiver go to this link.

“Big Brother” Europol Wants To Collect Data On Everyone, Even Individuals With No Relations to Criminal Activities, in Violation of Existing Data Protection Law:
-The new mandate would formalize Europol as a processor of massive quantities of data to continue training algorithms and developing new tools for law enforcement purposes. To this end, Europol is being given a broad mandate on research and innovation that will let the EU agency identify the relevant themes for EU research programmes.
-“Europol’s increasing use and development of AI and data analytics are deeply concerning, and may engage and infringe fundamental rights, including the right to a fair trial, to privacy and data protection rights,” Laure Baudrihaye-Gérard, legal director at Fair Trials, told EURACTIV.
-“It should not be Europol’s role to conduct research and innovation on this field, as the agency will essentially be mandating its own role in the future,” MEP Bricmont added.
-The potentially discriminatory effects of AI and machine learning are a recurring topic, as these technologies tend to reproduce biases intrinsic to the datasets, disproportionally impacting marginalised groups.
-For Chloé Berthélémy, a policy adviser at European Digital Rights (EDRi), an international advocacy group, the recast mandate contradicts a resolution the European Parliament adopted last week, which opposes the use of predictive modelling for law enforcement (“pre-crime” is the term for this, coined by science fiction author Philip K. Dick in his 1956 science fiction short story “The Minority Report”, Yikes!)

Geomagnetic storm ALERT- Solar flare lands ‘direct hit’ on Earth, may affect electricity grids, satellites: An outburst on the sun has landed a “direct hit” on Earth, and the geomagnetic storm may cause disruptions in the functioning of the power grids in northern latitudes. It is to be noted that a geomagnetic storm warning was issued on Sunday for Monday and Tuesday by the Space Weather Prediction Center, which is a part of the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
According to the warning issued by Space Weather Prediction Center the geomagnetic storm could disrupt power grids in some areas, and the functioning of satellites too. The warning, however, noted that these effects will not be significant.

SPAIN

Spain Adds Portugal, Hungary & Several Other Regions to Its High-Risk Areas List, Eases Restrictions on Norway and Sweden: Travellers from Portugal and Hungary will now be subject to additional entry rules when reaching Spain since the Ministry of Health has placed the countries on its high-risk areas list. Previously, only several regions of the two countries were part of the high-risk list. However, since the COVID-19 situation has worsened, now the whole territory of Portugal and Hungary is considered highly affected.
Additionally, entry rules have also been eased for travellers from Norway and Sweden as now only some of their regions are considered highly affected by the COVID-19, differently from last week when the whole territory of the two countries was part of the high-risk list.
According to the latest update published by the Spanish Ministry of Health, the new categorisation of countries and regions is effective from today, October 11, and will remain in force until October 17. Should Spain’s bars and restaurants be allowed to ban children?: Should children be taken to bars? What responsibility do parents have if their children go with them? Is there really such a thing as “childphobia” or, as it is sometimes known, paedophobia? These are questions that arise every time an establishment decides to ban minors from setting foot on their premises.
Some of these establishments claim that the presence of children is disruptive, increases the noise level, and argue that parents often fail to supervise them properly. These restaurants prefer to avoid these issues and have opted for an adults-only scenario, despite the indignation of parents who want to be able to dine with their children; and despite the legitimate right of minors to enter.
Regarding the photo- message on restaurant website says: “We remind you that our restaurant is exclusively reserved for adults.”

This is how the pension reform proposal will affect early retirement: The reform proposed by the Spanish Government with the support of CC.OO. and UGT, first of all, toughens the retirement penalty voluntarily increasing the reduction coefficients based on the years of contributions ”, the CSIF union stated this Monday. For this reason, CSIF expresses its rejection of this part of the reform of the pension system because it “represents a new cut” for those who retire early voluntarily with 35 years of contributions and for which the union estimates a loss of “up to 8,000 euros per year.” Full article: https://spainsnews.com/this-is-how-the-pension-reform-proposal-will-affect-early-retirement/

Government wants stores to encourage the sale of “ugly” food: The Minister council has approved this Monday the draft law to combat food waste which will force stores to encourage the sale of “ugly, imperfect or unaesthetic” products.
In addition, it has pointed out that the law includes as a measure that stores of more than 400 square meters must have a specific linear or ‘corner’ where certain products are presented that, although they are in perfect condition for consumption, present a “rejectionable appearance by the consumer”. Netflix announced a general price hike: From this month of October, both for new users and for those who already have the service in Spain. The platform raises the cost in two of its rates between one and two euros, but it does not add services or improve the benefits in any of them.
The increase occurs more than two years after the last price adjustment, in June 2019, and does not affect the ‘Basic Plan’, which remains at € 7.99 per month. It does mean an increase in the ‘Standard Plan’, which goes from € 11.99 to € 12.99, an increase of 8.3%. The ‘Premium Plan’ also goes up, which grows from € 15.99 to € 17.99 per month, 12.5% more than what was paid until now. All of them maintain the characteristics that they had until now. Public Holiday: Tuesday 12Oct. Fiesta Nacional de España is one of two “national days” of Spain and is held annually every 12 October on the day that Christopher Columbus discovered the Americas in 1492.
This is a major “bridge holiday” for the Spanish, with heavy traffic as many travel to family gatherings. “Bridge holiday” means that if the public/bank holiday is on a Tuesday or a Thursday you can have a 4 day weekend.
This is called ‘hacer puente’ in Spanish which means ‘to make a bridge; ‘ they call it “puente del Pilar” (bridge of the Pillar). Many businesses will close on Friday or Saturday and not reopen until Wednesday.
‘Nuestra Señora del Pilar’ – ‘our Lady of the Pillar’ is the patroness virgin of Spain and of the Hispanic peoples and of the Civil Guard of Spain.

El Puente Christian Fellowship – Sunday Service
El Puente Christian Fellowship is a loving, multi-national, Bible believing community of Christ, who meet each Sunday at 11 am to worship The Lord. We enjoy a time of worship with contemporary songs and traditional hymns, and a message brought to us by one of the Elders or a visiting speaker.
The church meeting hall is situated underneath Maroma Inmobiliaria Puente Don Manuel, Cruce de Periana – 29713.
Full directions and further information can be found on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/El-Puente-Christian-Fellowship-105285888299225/or please contact us by email on elpuentechristianfellowship@gmail.com. For those who cannot join us in person, we aim to stream Sunday services via the Facebook page (subject to a good internet connection!).

St George’s Church Málaga: We are part of the Church of England in Spain covering the area from Torremolinos in the west to the outskirts of Nerja in the east and to the northern edge of Malaga province.
We have three worship centres, in Velez-Málaga, Málaga city and Salinas. Everyone is welcome to our Sunday services in English, and you can also contact us to enquire about baptisms, marriage blessings, funerals, and house blessings.
Father Louis, our Chaplain, is available for counsel and support, regardless of anyone’s beliefs or background. We aspire to be a welcoming and inclusive community, open to all people seeking faith and friendship.
If you can’t get to church, we live-stream our Sunday services on Facebook, and also gather on Zoom for an informal service on Wednesday mornings.
Sign up for our newsletter by emailing Father Louis at malagachaplain@gmail.com to receive login details, and news of other future events. We look forward to welcoming you and being of service.

Covid Spain- Health records 2,309 new infections, 77 deaths and an incidence of 48.18 cases: {Translation, summary} Updated: 8OCT21, 18:36
-The health authorities have reported in 77 deaths Friday, up from this Thursday, when they reported 23 deaths.
– In addition, the best record of hospitalisations in the historical series has been confirmed- never before have we had less than 2,100 people admitted for the infection since the care capacity has been registered.
-The incidence in Spain continues to decline. On Friday, the Ministry of Health reported 48.18 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, after the country entered the low-risk range for coronavirus on Thursday, falling below the symbolic barrier of 50 cases of incidence. Now, the next step is to reach what is known as the ‘new normal’, which is achieved by reporting fewer than 25 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, according to the criteria of the Ministry of Health.
– All communities lower their rate of incidence. Specifically, ten come already in the range considered to be at low risk for COVID having lowered the barrier of 50 cases of incidence, according to the traffic light health: Extremadura (47), Castilla-La Mancha (45), Canary (45), Navarra (43), Comunitat Valenciana (37), Andalusia (35), La Rioja (35), Castilla y León (34), Galicia (18), and Asturias (15). The last two of these, Galicia and Asturias are now in what is known as the ‘new normal’, to notify least 25 cases of incidence, according to the criteria of Health. SPAIN

Spain’s Health Minister hints that indoor face mask rules will not be eased until spring: The Ministry of Health department’s head, Carolina Darias, hinted this Friday (8 October) that it is unlikely it would happen before spring. Darias, however, expressly avoided giving a date and called for patience, despite the improvement in the coronavirus pandemic figures and the fact that Spain returned to a Covid-19 ‘low risk’ zone yesterday after the cumulative incidence rate fell below 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants after some 14 months. Spain is the EU country with the most expensive electricity this Saturday: {Translation} The spectacular increase in electricity prices means that thousands of consumers wait until the weekend to carry out certain tasks, such as putting the washing machine, dryer, ironing or cooking in the oven, as the rates on Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays are cheaper than on working days with the new pricing mechanism that came into force on 1 June.
-The regulated or pvpc tariffs that almost 11 million consumers have on Saturdays range from 21 cents (from 15:00 to 16:00) to 30 cents (between 19:00 and 20:00). A year ago, that range was between 8 cents (at 5 p.m.) and 10 cents (8 p.m.).
-These regulated tariffs respond to the price of electricity on the wholesale market, which once again set a new record on Saturday, reaching an average of 226.21 euros per megawatt hour (MWh). The peak price is 254.45 euros.
-Incidentally, Spain is the country with the most expensive electricity this Saturday in the different European markets. It is followed by Italy (200.18 euros), while in France it costs 182.83 euros and in Germany 139.49 euros per MWh.
-Saturday’s average price is 30.3% more expensive than last Saturday (173.65 euros) and 598% higher than on the same day in 2020 (32.49 euros).
-The average price in September was 156 euros per MWh, the average price in October (up to the 9th) is more than 207 euros. It should be remembered that the average price in October 2020 was 36.59 euros. POLEXIT?- EU faces crisis over Polish court ruling: A Polish court ruling challenging the supremacy of European Union law plunged the EU into an existential crisis on Friday, increasing fears among EU policymakers and many Poles that Poland could eventually leave the bloc. Poland’s Constitutional Tribunal took on the case after Polish Prime Minister Morawiecki asked it whether EU institutions could stop Poland reorganising its judiciary.
Politicians across Europe voiced dismay at the ruling by Poland’s Constitutional Tribunal on Thursday that parts of EU law are incompatible with the Polish constitution, undermining the legal pillar on which the 27-nation EU stands. Draconid meteor shower 2021 will peak October 8: The Draconid shower is active between October 6 and 10. The best evening to watch in 2021 is likely October 8. Try the evenings of October 7 and 9 also. Be sure to watch in a dark sky.
The Draconids are best in the evening, instead of before dawn, because the winged Dragon, the shower’s radiant point, flies highest in the October sky at nightfall. As night passes – no matter where you are on Earth – the radiant point sinks lower in your sky. You don’t have to locate Draco the Dragon to watch the Draconids. These meteors fly every which way through the starry sky, however, in general, the Draconids aren’t a rich shower, unless their parent comet is nearby. They typically produce only about five meteors per hour. Photo:Vittorio Poli. Full article: https://earthsky.org/astronomy-essentials/everything-you-need-to-know-draconid-meteor-shower/

Spain passes ‘a crucial milestone on the road to recovery’ says PM Sánchez: The country’s incidence rate has fallen below 50 to 48.94, a low-risk level for coronavirus and a figure that has not been seen since July 2020. It has dropped below 50, the barrier that separates medium-risk from low-risk of the disease, according to the ‘Covid traffic light’ system established by the Ministry of Health and the regions last March. La Palma struck by new quake and more destruction from erupting volcano: A 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck on Thursday in La Palma, in Spain’s Canary Islands, where a volcanic eruption has been underway since September 19.
The tremor, registered at a depth of 35 kilometers, is the biggest one on record since that day, according to data collected by the National Geographic Institute of Spain (IGN). It followed on the heels of 16 smaller quakes registered overnight by the IGN. La Palma volcano enters a new phase as lava flows to the sea through ‘tunnels’: Scientists studying the behaviour of the La Palma volcano have said that it has entered a phase of stability, although it does not mean that they expect eruptions to subside any time soon.
Specialists have revealed that the damage it has wreaked on land has not spread much wider as the lava is now flowing to the sea through ducts, that were formed in the lower levels of the magma mass as it moved towards the ocean. The Canary Islands are full of these tunnels. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/spain/palma-volcano-enters-20211007100803-nt.html

President of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, and Torrox Mayor Push Back Against Empty House Tax: {Translation from Ayuntamiento de Torrox FB page, better than the FB translation in the pic}
“I am not going to raise the IBI to anyone, as the Spanish Government intends to do!”
This is how the mayor of Torrox, Óscar Medina, has expressed himself after learning about some of the aspects of the new Housing Law in Spain, which PSOE and Unidas Podemos agreed on Tuesday.
The new legislation will contemplate a tax on empty housing through the IBI surcharge of up to 150% that can be applied by local councils.
Medina recalled that precisely in the current legislature the biggest tax reduction has been approved and that it will affect all residents, paying 7% less between 2019 and 2021, setting the IBI in Torrox at 0.63% for the next year.
Thus, the mayor has insisted that the government team is thinking about the welfare and economic recovery of the residents, so that among other fiscal measures also approved, the lowering of other taxes and municipal fees (on motor vehicles, rubbish collection service or occupation of public roads). “We are not going to penalise any resident who has an empty property because they are not living there and do not want to rent it, for whatever reason”, reiterated Medina, in relation to the new Housing Law for empty properties and measures to prevent evictions.
The president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, has also criticised the central government’s measure as “interventionist” and that it will have a negative effect on the market. Source, Spanish: FB link

EUROPE

Ireland agrees global tax deal, sacrificing prized low rate: Ireland dropped its opposition to an overhaul of global corporate tax rules on Thursday, agreeing to give up its prized 12.5% tax for large multinationals in a major boost to efforts to impose a minimum rate worldwide.
Ireland, the low-tax European headquarters for blue chip companies including Apple Google and Facebook , declined to sign up to the initial deal in July, objecting to a proposed rate of “at least” 15%.
An updated text this week dropped the “at least”, clearing the way for ministers to do what successive governments said they would never contemplate – giving up the low rate that has helped win Ireland investments and jobs for decades. Full article: https://news.trust.org/item/20211007180750-48twr

OTHER

Windows 11 Info: I have installed Win 11 on a MiniPC. That was the only computer I had that meets the minimum requirements, a processor 3 or less years old.  Installation took 90 mins on a very fast internet connection. My initial impressions: Seems to run fast, they moved the “Start” button to the new “centered” taskbar, and they totally redesigned the Settings Section. While the installation did save most of my old settings, a few were reset to the default. There may be more as I am still getting to know this complicated new Settings Section. If you thought the Windows 10 Settings Section was difficult to navigate, and many do, well this new design is even more complicated. It appears the designers made it intentionally complex so as to prevent users from making changes to the default Settings! -Ed.

COVID-19

All but seven districts of Andalusia are now at Covid level 0 and their restrictions are lifted: {Translation, 1st 5 paragraphs only} Updated: 06/10/2021 17:55
-The end of the restrictions and measures against Covid-19 is advancing in Andalusia. Thanks to the drop in the number of infections and hospitalisations, as well as the decrease in the incidence rate, this Thursday all the districts except the province of Almeria, Huelva Costa, Condado-Campiña, Costa del Sol and Seville capital have joined the level 0 health alert. This means that almost two thirds of the community are now living as they did before the pandemic, except for the use of masks indoors.
-These new level 0 areas join the whole of the provinces of Cádiz and Jaén, as well as the Sierra de Huelva, Córdoba North, Guadalquivir and capital, Granada capital and Granada Northeast. These are the areas in which the population has been living since last week without restrictions on capacity or timetables.
-In this way, and with the decision of the territorial committees that have been known this Wednesday, only seven health districts remain at level 1 alert. These are the areas where there are still certain restrictions on activity, although there are fewer and fewer of them. In fact, since last week the territories of the community that are on level 1 alert can have bars and nightclubs open until 5 am. In addition, bars can serve until one o’clock in the morning on the terrace and close at two o’clock.
-But what does alert level 0 mean? Basically it is a return to pre-pandemic normality except for the use of masks. As the Andalusian government has explained, it means that all restrictions on capacity and opening hours beyond the municipal regulations prior to the pandemic will disappear. The only element reminiscent of the health crisis is the use of masks indoors, which is still compulsory even at this level 0.
-The near-normal situation in almost all of Andalusia is largely the result of the vaccination process. With nearly 90 percent of the target population, i.e. those over 11 years of age, already immunised, the effects of the reduction in contagion and the increase in the number of cases are being felt.

Costa del Sol health district remains at alert Level 1 as the rest of Malaga province enjoys eased Covid measures: The entire province of Malaga has moved to coronavirus health alert Level 0, with the exception of the Costa del Sol health district, which will retain the restrictions on opening hours and capacity that bars, restaurants, shops and other businesses have endured since the start of the pandemic. Andalucía’s Covid-19 incidence rate keeps falling to reach 38.4:
The coronavirus cumulative incidence rate in Andalucía this Wednesday, 6 October 6, stands at 38.4 Covid cases per 100,000 inhabitants, which is down 2.5 in 24 hours and some 13.11 lower than a week ago.
The region has registered 264 new coronavirus infections, a figure slightly higher than the 218 on Tuesday, but lower than the 321 a week ago, according to data from the Andalusian Institute of Statistics and Cartography (IECA).
The official Junta organisation has also counted 10 deaths, three less than the day before and six more than those of last Wednesday. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/andalucia/andalucias-covid19-incidence-20211006162500-nt.html

SPAIN

How and who will be penalized for having an empty home: {Translation} The coalition government of the PSOE and United We Can carry out the new Housing law , which will mainly control, in part, the price of rents, in addition to putting the focus on empty homes.
For this, the Executive plans to increase the Property and Real Estate Tax (IBI) to those large owners who have their homes empty .
Thus, the preliminary project plans to increase this tax to 150% for unoccupied flats; Sevilla.ABC reports that the measure will affect homeowners who have more than four homes, and at least two of them have to be vacant for a period of two years or more.
When this punishment is delimited to the owner, it will be the city council that will decide whether to apply the surcharge or not.
The new housing law has clashed with the coalition government. Ministry of Economy Nadia Calviño’s was against rent control, considering that it affects legal security in Spain, something that the CEOE also shares.
On the part of United We Can, it was a condition to be made to approve the next Budgets. The formation of Ione Belarra threatened not to support them if these housing regulations were not carried out. The European Parliament “micro manages” local neighborhoods, requires a speed limit to 30km/h in all residential areas: In a resolution that seeks to reduce fatal accidents, the European Parliament has proposed a battery of measures to put an end to deaths, 22,700 each year, on the roads of the EU. MEPs note that mortality reduction has stalled in recent years and the EU did not achieve its goal of cut deaths by half from 2010 to 2020.
As the main proposal, the European Parliament demands to establish a limit of 30 kilometers per hour in residential areas and those in which there is a high number of cyclists and pedestrians.

Anti-Piracy Coalition Takes Control of Dozens of Pirate IPTV Domains: The powerful global anti-piracy coalition Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment has taken over yet more pirate IPTV-related domains. The latest wave includes more than three dozen new additions to a rapidly growing list. All indications suggest that ACE gave the suppliers an ultimatum – shut down and hand over your domains or face more vigorous legal action.
-Those taken down include, but are not limited to:
Abon-sat.com, abon-iptv-ott.com, king-platinum-iptv.com, electrotv-sat.com, electro-tvsat.com, electro-tv-sat.com, electrotvsat.net, electro-tv-sat.net, king-premium-iptv.com, king-platinum-iptv.com, salah-sat.com, volkatvpro2.com and volkatv-pro2.com. Google to turn on 2-factor authentication(2SA or 2SV, same thing) by default for 150 million users: Google has announced plans to automatically enroll about 150 million users into its 2SA scheme by the end of the year as part of its ongoing efforts to prevent unauthorized access to accounts and improve security.
In addition, the internet giant said it also intends to require 2 million YouTube creators to switch on the setting to protect their channels from potential takeover attacks. Full article: https://thehackernews.com/2021/10/google-to-turns-on-2-factor.html
(Note: 2SV or 2SA are the same thing, it is also called 2FA.
These are: 2 Step Verification, 2 Step Authentication and 2 Factor Authentication.
It is where you not only provide your user name and password to log-in, but must also provide a security code sent to your mobile as a text msg or sent by email. This makes signing in more time consuming and if you use a mobile to receive the codes, and lose the phone, you get locked out. Recovering the account if you can’t get the codes can take days of hassle with customer support!
This really has very little to do with security, if you use a proper password with at least 13 mixed characters of  upper and lower case letters, numbers and punctuation marks, that is virtually un-hackable, unless you are tricked into giving the password out.
The real reason for 2SA is when they send a code to your smartphone, they get your exact location, within a few meters. Having that location adds a lot of value to the data of yours that they are collecting and selling to cover the cost of these free services. So if you use 2SA, I strongly suggest you set it to send security codes to your email, NOT a text to your mobile. That way they can’t track your movements and you will still be able to get the security codes in the case you mis-place your mobile. -Ed.)

SPAIN

Spain to give third dose to over 70s at same time as flu dose: {Translation, summary} Updated: 05/10/2021, 19:34h
-The over-70s will receive the third dose of the Covid vaccine in Spain, regardless of their state of health or whether or not they live in residential homes. The Public Health Commission, in which all the autonomous communities are represented, has given the green light to the inoculation of a booster dose for the elderly and has recommended doing so at the same time as the flu campaign.
-The advice of the technicians of the autonomous regions and the Ministry of Health is to start on 25 October with people over 70 years of age and continue with those over 65 years of age, provided that six months have passed since the last dose of the Covid vaccine. This time has already been exceeded by the vast majority of the elderly who were the first to be immunised in Spain. The booster dose will be made with an RNA technology vaccine, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.
-The decision was taken on Tuesday with only the representatives of Madrid and Galicia voting against. The Community of Madrid expressed its disagreement because “there is still no scientific evidence to administer the booster dose. There is no urgency to administer it,” said sources from the Madrid Regional Ministry. The two communities are committed to focusing on starting the flu vaccination campaign for those over 65 years of age. However, other regional governments, such as Castilla-La Mancha, had asked to start the double immunisation, flu plus Covid booster, from the age of 65.
-Now the final green light is in the hands of the health ministers at the Interterritorial Health Council to be held this Wednesday.
-The Ministry of Health and the councillors had already approved administering the third dose to the elderly living in residences because there were sufficient doses and it was necessary to protect the most vulnerable. The Government plans to punish banks and oil companies with a  minimum tax rate of 18%: The intention is that, in principle, the same scheme that was already thought in 2018 is followed. Then it was already agreed between PSOE and Podemos a minimum rate of 15% general and 18% for these two areas. The accounts of that year did not go ahead and the measure was parked by the Covid-19. France threatens to cut off UK’s energy again in new fishing row:
Earlier this year, France threatened to cut off energy during a dispute over fishing rights in the sea off Jersey’s coast. France has again threatened to cut the UK off from energy supplies if the terms of the Brexit deal aren’t stuck to.
Asked what actions could be taken, Mr Beaune pointed to both UK exports to France and European energy exports to the UK.
“The UK depends on our energy exports, they think they can live alone while also beating up on Europe and, given that it doesn’t work, they engage in aggressive one-upmanship,” he added.
His comments came after Paris became angered by a series of application rejections to fish in British waters. Full article: https://news.sky.com/story/france-threatens-to-again-cut-off-uks-energy-in-brexit-row-12426857

Inflammatory micro clots in blood of individuals suffering from Long COVID: New research indicates that an overload of various inflammatory molecules, literally “trapped” inside insoluble microscopic blood clots (micro clots), might be the cause of some of the lingering symptoms experienced by individuals with Long COVID.
-The findings have since been peer-reviewed and published in the journal Cardiovascular Diabetology in August 2021.
“We found high levels of various inflammatory molecules trapped in micro clots present in the blood of individuals with Long COVID. Some of the trapped molecules contain clotting proteins such as fibrinogen, as well as alpha(2)-antiplasmin,” Prof Pretorius explains.
-“Of particular interest is the simultaneous presence of persistent anomalous micro clots and a pathological fibrinolytic system,” they write in the research paper. This implies that the plasmin and antiplasmin balance may be central to pathologies in Long COVID, and provides further evidence that COVID-19, and now Long COVID, have significant cardiovascular and clotting pathologies. Fakebook, WhatsApp and Instagram Back Online After 7hr Outage, But Some Users Are Still Reporting Problems: Their explanation? “Routine maintenance on Facebook’s network stitching together its data centers caused Monday’s collapse of its global system for more than six hours,” the company said on Tuesday. (Like they couldn’t do FB maintenance without taking WhatsApp and Instagram totally off line for 7hrs? Yeah, right. If that’s true, that it was for scheduled “routine maintenance”, then why were no warnings issued of possible downtime to the millions of businesses that were forced to take an unexpected day off?  FB does not do that type of maintenance during the business hours in the US/EU to avoid this exact problem. Just more Zuckerberg BS. -Ed)

4 Big Takeaways From the Facebook Whistleblower Congressional Hearing Tuesday:
-At the US Senate on Tuesday, Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen, a former Facebook project manage, testified that the social media site’s products “harm children, stoke division and weaken our democracy,” and that congressional intervention is needed.
-The hearing came in the wake of Haugen leaking tens of thousands of pages of company documents to senators showing that Facebook has failed to fix numerous problems that it’s long known about, and in some cases made them worse.
-“I think we’re going to look back 20 years from now and all of us are going to be like, ‘What the hell were we thinking,’ when we recognize the damage that [Facebook] has done to a generation,” Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan said.

Wanted: Shelving solution. I am looking for some basic free-standing shelving for a utility room, size 60×60 and around 150cm high. I have found numerous metal kits but they tend to be the wrong size and I also do not want to have to drive to Malaga to Leroy Merlin etc. Any suggestions please as to where I can source something like this locally around Nerja – Torre del Mar area? I don’t mind wooden ones but I was looking for something on a budget rather than bespoke as it is only for storage in an outside utility room. Thanks! Barbara

Lava flow increases from the La Palma volcano as experts detect an increase in explosive activity: There is no sign, for now, that the lava spewing from the La Palma volcano in Spain’s Canary Islands will decrease anytime soon. On the contrary, volcanologists working in the Cumbre Vieja area have detected an increase in explosive activity in recent hours, and they have not ruled out the appearance of new ‘mouths’, according to a report by the Pevolca volcanic emergency plan experts. The affected area has now grown to 399 hectares, some 52.5 more than the previous day.
In addition, the group, that is in charge of managing the volcano crisis, has ordered the evacuation of the scientists and emergency service personnel working in the areas near the lava flow after the deterioration of air quality in the locality.

Energy Bills Outrage- The Eurogroup denies any responsibility, insists on supporting the energy transition despite the gas crisis:
-Some ministers like those of Spain, Nadia calviño, or France, Bruno Lemaire, presented a proposal with some ideas to try to counteract the rise in prices and in particular the Spanish representative demanded an “urgent and strong” attitude on the part of the European Commission to stop the situation.
-The Commissioner for the Economy, Paolo Gentiloni, responded that in the coming days the community executive will present a package of measures that countries can use to moderate the market without violating state aid rules. But the message that everyone, including the president of the Eurogroup, Paschal Donohoe, repeated was that it would be a mistake to blame this situation on the European policy of the Green Deal. “The energy transition is not the problem, but the solution,” Gentiloni said. Airbag safety recall for up to 300,000 Citroën and DS vehicles:
The European Commission’s Rapid Alert System for dangerous non-food products (Rapex) has reported an airbag inflator problem in several models of the Citroën and DS vehicle range manufactured between 2009 and 2017, which could affect some 300,000 vehicles.
The affected models are:
-Citroën C3 V3 manufactured between September 2009 and January 2017.
-Citroën C4 V2 and DS4 manufactured between September 2010 and February 2017.
-DS3 manufactured between October 2009 and October 2016.
-DS5 manufactured between June 2011 and August 2016.
Spain’s OCU consumer association said that it understands that the vehicle manufacturer will contact owners to have the faulty part replaced. However, the OCU aslo advises owners of these models to contact Citroën and DS customer services direct to find out if their vehicle is among those affected. A Very Bad Day For the Fakebook Empire: Services Knocked Offline, A Massive Data Hack & Customer Abuse Exposed, All In One Day!!!
See articles below. Rumours are circulating in techie forums that Fakebook, Instagram and WhatsApp are under attack from several vectors, groups of insider “white hat” hackers and disgruntled employees, who have reached their limits of accepting the abuse and monetization of social media users. Of course, FB will blame one of their 3rd party service providers, citing human error as the cause of the outage, as they typically do. However, it is very unlikely a single entity took down all these different FB services simultaneously; more likely it’s a coordinated effort by several groups. While this is going on, Fakebook is also currently fighting many huge lawsuits and criminal prosecutions by gov’ts worldwide. Large fines and settlements have already been paid by Zuckerberg this year, and he is appealing many others. Fakebook will not go down without a long, drawn out battle, but it may be doomed to follow the steps of  it’s predecessor, MySpace, into digital oblivion! -Ed.

Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp hit by global outage, worst since 2008: Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp went offline for users across the globe, the social media giant said on Monday, as it worked on restoring the services after being hit by one of its longest outages. Facebook acknowledged users were having trouble accessing its apps but did not provide any specifics about the nature of the problem or how many were affected by the outage. “We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience,” Facebook tweeted about 30 minutes after the first reports of the outage.
Facebook has experienced similar widespread outages with its suite of apps this year in March and July.
Several users using their Facebook credentials to log in to third-party apps such as Pokemon Go and Match Masters were also facing issues. Full article: https://www.reuters.com/technology/facebook-instagram-down-thousands-users-downdetectorcom-2021-10-04/

1.5 Billion Facebook Users Personal Information Posted for Sale After Hack: Personal information from roughly 1.5 billion worldwide Facebook users was allegedly put up for sale following a recent leak. A member of a known forum for hackers claimed to be in possession of the information in late September and offered to sell it in chunks to others on the forum, according to a report from Privacy Affairs. One user claimed to have gotten a quote of $5,000 for the information of 1 million users.
-The hacker allegedly in possession of the leaked information claimed that it included the following for each Facebook account: name, email address, location, gender, phone number and user ID.
-Samples shared by the user appear to have been authentic, according to Privacy Affairs. The outlet also checked the information against previous leaks and found that alleged info was a legitimately new leak, not old data being resold. Full article:

Facebook ignores damages to it’s users to increase profits- the secrets that have exposed the toxicity of the social network: The vast empire of Mark Zuckerberg– and that also includes Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger– requested internal studies to better understand how their platforms affect the health of public debate and alter the mental stability of the millions of adolescents who use their products. The company then tried to bury those results confirming damage to users. Up to now.
Frances Haugen worked in the department of Civic Integrity, which Facebook dissolved shortly after the US presidential elections in November 2020. It was then that he chose to resign and leak those revealing documents to the press and federal authorities. Some documents confirm that the company knew and decided to ignore dangers to users. “There were constant conflicts of interest between what is good for the public and what is good for Facebook. And he always chose to optimize his own interest, to earn more money, ”the 37-year-old computer engineer explained during the early hours of Monday on ’60 minutes’, a prime-time television program. On Tuesday he will appear to testify before Congress. Full article: https://spainsnews.com/facebook-lies-to-you-the-secrets-that-have-exposed-the-toxicity-of-the-social-network/
