Public Holiday: Tuesday 12Oct. Fiesta Nacional de España is one of two “national days” of Spain and is held annually every 12 October on the day that Christopher Columbus discovered the Americas in 1492.
This is a major “bridge holiday” for the Spanish, with heavy traffic as many travel to family gatherings. “Bridge holiday” means that if the public/bank holiday is on a Tuesday or a Thursday you can have a 4 day weekend.
This is called ‘hacer puente’ in Spanish which means ‘to make a bridge; ‘ they call it “puente del Pilar” (bridge of the Pillar). Many businesses will close on Friday or Saturday and not reopen until Wednesday.
‘Nuestra Señora del Pilar’ – ‘our Lady of the Pillar’ is the patroness virgin of Spain and of the Hispanic peoples and of the Civil Guard of Spain.

I am moving this activity to Friday October 22nd, to join the Workshop Handicrafts/Crafts/Board Games/etc. Cost €5 including a Tapas&Copas, excluding any material costs. You don’t have to sign up, just come and visit us.
-Starting soon I want to do (probably on Saturday) the Workshop Macrame. The intention is to start with a basic course to learn the different techniques, to then work at your own pace, with or without guidance, on a project of your choice. Material is available. The price for this workshop is €10 (excluding material costs).

DGT to launch campaign in Andalucia to monitor lorries and buses: The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has announced that from this Monday, October 11, a campaign to monitor and control buses and all types of lorries will be launched on the roads of Andalucia. It will terminate on October 17.
As explained in a statement from the Government Delegation in Andalusia, vehicles will be controlled regardless of their country of origin, in a bid to ensure compliance with traffic regulations.
Issues monitored include those relating to speed, hours of driving and rest, tachograph, excess weight, technical defects of the vehicle, load security, vehicle and driver documentation, use of the seat belt, driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs, and mobile phone use.
