Recommendations & Requests

Recommendation: Bathroom refurb. Must most highly recommend Chris Stevenson for the first class work he has done in one of our bathrooms. We needed a spa bath removing and a disabled access walk in shower installed. Chris quickly assessed assessed what we needed then responded promptly with a quote for the work. He ordered all the fittings – not complaining when we kept adding extras such as a replacement loo and washbasin – and obtained the necessary licence from the ayuntamiento. He arrived bang on time to start the work and we have never known a cleaner/neater worker. We continued to add small extras such but the work was still completed in less than six working days. We are absolutely delighted with the work and cannot recommend Chris highly enough. He can be contacted on 674617379

SPAIN

The sulfur cloud expelled by the volcano of La Palma is already in the Balearic Islands and will reach the Peninsula this Friday: {Translation, summary}
-The sulfur cloud expelled by the volcano of La Palma will reach the Peninsula in the coming hours, according to estimates of the Aemet. In fact, it already covers parts of the Balearic Islands although it has appeared in the area very weakened and does not pose any health risk.
-However, the sulfur dioxide coming from the volcano will cover a good part of the Iberian Peninsula, almost all of Morocco and Tunisia and the Mediterranean coasts of France, Italy, Algeria and Libya. However, it specifies that this phenomenon will have “very limited repercussions” on meteorological conditions and air quality at the surface, since most of the SO2 emitted is found in the very upper layers of the atmosphere.
-Rubén del Campo, spokesman for the state agency, has indicated this Thursday that in case acid rain fell it would be “a punctual episode”, and that the harmful aspects on health occur when this phenomenon is prolonged for months, even years, and also depend on the proximity with respect to the focus of emissions, in this case the volcano.
-As for gas emissions, the forecast is that they will head south, reaching areas of La Gomera, El Hierro and Tenerife, although the highest concentrations of sulfur dioxide (SO2) will occur in La Palma at altitudes higher than where there is usually population.
For the moment, at surface level, the air quality has not been altered by the volcano, and the pollutant emission model does not observe a “significant arrival” of gases. Source, Spanish: https://www.20minutos.es/noticia/4832069/0/nube-azufre-volcan-palma-llega-peninsula/

Footprints Place Humans In North America Thousands Of Years Before Previously Known, During the Last Glacial Maximum: Footprints discovered in White Sands National Park in New Mexico prove that humans lived in North America between 21,000 and 23,000 years ago, during the last ice age and thousands of years before scientists previously thought, a new study claims.
These finds indicate the presence of humans in North America for approximately two millennia during the Last Glacial Maximum, south of the migratory barrier created by the ice sheets to the north. References:

Andalucía’s coronavirus incidence rate continues to drop to 65.2:
The Andalusian region has this Wednesday, 22 September, registered a total of 468 new coronavirus infections, an increase of 176 cases in 24 hours but 160 fewer than last Wednesday.
Data from the Andalusian Institute of Statistics and Cartography (IECA), also counts 15 deaths, five more than the day before and four more than a week ago.
As for the 15 deaths, six were recorded in Seville, five in Malaga and one, each, in Almeria, Cordoba, Granada and Jaén. Cadiz and Huelva are the provinces that have not registered any deaths this Wednesday.
The cumulative incidence rate for the region stands at 65.2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, down some 3.8 in 24 hours, and 24.3 fewer than last Wednesday. Full article: http://www.surinenglish.com/national/202109/22/andalucia-coronavirus-incidence-rate-20210922123837.html

Telegraph UK Exposé- Wuhan scientists planned to release coronavirus particles into cave bats, planned to create chimeric viruses, genetically enhanced to infect humans more easily:
-Wuhan and US scientists were planning to release enhanced airborne coronavirus particles into Chinese bat populations to inoculate them against diseases that could jump to humans, leaked grant proposals dating from 2018 show.
-New documents show that just 18 months before the first Covid-19 cases appeared, researchers had submitted plans to release skin-penetrating nanoparticles and aerosols containing “novel chimeric spike proteins” of bat coronaviruses into cave bats in Yunnan, China.
-They also planned to create chimeric viruses, genetically enhanced to infect humans more easily, and requested $14million from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (Darpa) to fund the work.
-The proposal also included plans to mix high-risk natural coronavirus strains with more infectious but less dangerous varieties.

SPAIN

Spain’s Ministry of Health supports a third Covid vaccine dose, despite scientific doubts: The administration of a third Covid jab to the general population continues to cause misgivings among a good part of the scientific community and continues to fuel controversy between countries and experts.
But within Spain’s Ministry of Health that controversy does not exist. Internal documents from the department, headed by Carolina Darias, clearly show a commitment to administer an extra dose of a coronavirus vaccine to the general population, beyond the elderly in nursing homes and people with weakened immune systems, which has been agreed so far. The wholesale price of electricity is now down 6% to 165.19 euros per MWh, after Tuesday’s increase: {Translation}
-The average price of electricity in the wholesale market (pool) has been set for this Thursday, September 23, at 165.19 euros megawatt hour (MWh), which represents a decrease of 6% compared to the price set for this Wednesday, when it marked its second all-time high (175.87 euros).
-By time slots, prices for tomorrow range from 192.52 euros that will be paid between 21:00 and 22:00, and 132.3 euros that will cost between 4:00 and 6:00 in the morning.
-The price of the pool, which triples the levels of a year ago, is used to calculate hour by hour the regulated tariff to which close to 11 million users are subscribed and serves as a reference for the 17 million that contract their supply in the free market at prices that are usually revised annually.
-Behind these high prices, which affect the whole of Europe, are the international rise in gas prices and the increase in the price of carbon dioxide (CO2) emission rights.
-Thus, for example, in the United Kingdom, the megawatt hour will be paid at an average of 153.86 pounds (about 180 euros); in France, at 143.81 euros; and in Portugal, at the same price as in Spain, with which it shares the market.
-However, each country calculates its regulated tariff, here called PVPC, with different methods and references, so the impact of the pool on the regulated prices paid by households varies from country to country.
-What does happen throughout the European Union is that the wholesale price of electricity is set by the hour after matching the supply of producers with the demand forecast by the system manager, and through a marginalist system that implies that the last technology to enter (generally the most expensive) is the one that sets the price at which all the plants that provide energy in that hour will be remunerated.
-At present, the technologies that are setting the price in most hours in the Iberian market are the combined cycle (which uses natural gas) and water, which offers its adjustable production at prices similar to those of the cycle, taking advantage of what is known as “opportunity cost”. Spain to ban sale of fruit and vegetables in plastic wrapping from 2023: The new regulation also contains measures to encourage the purchase of loose, unpackaged produce and use of non-bottled water. The ban on fruit and vegetable packaging will apply to produce weighing under 1.5 kilograms, following similar legislation in France, where it will go into effect next year. Highest coronavirus infection rate is now among children, but figures in Spain are falling for all ages: The under-12s, the only group in Spain that is not included in the ongoing vaccination campaign, has now become the segment of the population where the coronavirus is circulating most.
The cumulative incidence among the youngest people in Spain was, according to the latest Health Ministry report, 123.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants over the previous 14 days, while the average for the whole of Spain came in at 83.4. Escrivá proposes abolishing aid for low-income self-employed workers:
-The department headed by José Luis Escrivá has today transferred to the self-employed organizations its proposal to renew the Covid aid that, in line with the ERTE, will be extended until January 31. The dates match the requests of the group, but the conditions, as also happens with the expansion of the ERTE, have set off the alarms, taking into account the difficulties that many workers go through with their businesses at half gas.
-The proposal that is on the negotiating table ends with the benefit received by the self-employed with low incomes, a help that those who have exhausted their contribution periods and have been able to prove during the Covid a drop in turnover compared to the second and third quarter of 2019. They receive 472 euros per month and are currently 141,000, the largest group.
-ATA, the majority association of freelancers, insists that the offer defended today at the negotiating table would, in practice, eliminate aid in the new extension for more than 80% of the self-employed. Expats rush to secure ‘Golden Visa’ for Portugal as scheme set to change within months: The scheme will change on January 1, 2022 and minimum investment requirements are set to rise.
The Golden Visa is a residence visa available to non-EU citizens who make a significant investment in Portugal. Golden Visas are a speedy route to obtain Portuguese citizenship as those on it can achieve citizenship within just five years.
However, from January 2022, buying property in Lisbon, Porto or the Algarve will no longer qualify for a Golden Visa.
The minimum investment level for fund subscription to get a Golden Visa will also increase to 500,000 euros from the current low level of 350,000 euros in January.
Experts have advised British expats hoping to score a dream property in Lisbon, Porto or the Algarve and get a Golden Visa to apply now. Full article: https://www.express.co.uk/travel/articles/1494412/british-expats-portugal-golden-visa-time-running-out

More Spam Recently? That’s Because Hacker Phishing Kits That Require Minimal Computer Skills Are Being Sold Online For Under €800:
Microsoft has opened the lid on a large-scale phishing-as-a-service (PHaaS) operation that’s involved in selling phishing kits and email templates as well as providing hosting and automated services at a low cost, thus enabling cyber actors to purchase phishing campaigns and deploy them with minimal efforts.
“With over 100 available phishing templates that mimic known brands and services, the BulletProofLink operation is responsible for many of the phishing campaigns that impact enterprises today,” Microsoft 365 Defender Threat Intelligence Team said in a Tuesday report. FrankenFood- Scientists are developing plants that can deliver mRNA vaccine technology used by Pfizer and Moderna Covid shots by being EATEN: When a person thinks of vaccines, they often imagine the long needle of a syringe before a slight pinch on their arm, followed by a day of soreness as they recover.
That could soon change if researchers at the University of California, Riverside (UCR), are successful in their attempt to deliver messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine technology via edible plants.
They are hoping that they can grow vegetables that can deliver vaccines with the same technology used to develop the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines.
The mRNA technology used in the Pfizer and Moderna shots – and potentially in the plants, has long existed, but was rarely used in medicine until recently. Full article: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-10013497/Scientists-working-develop-plants-deliver-mRNA-vaccine-technology.html

Algeria – Morocco Conflict Escalates:
It is just over 200mi/330km from Almeria to the Morocco/Algeria border.
Algeria’s supreme security council decided on Wednesday to close the country’s airspace to all Moroccan civil and military aircraft, the Algerian presidency said, less than a month after it cut diplomatic relations with the Kingdom citing “hostile actions”.
The border between Morocco and Algeria (1,427 km / 887 miles) has been closed since 1994.
Algiers also accused Rabat of backing MAK, a separatist group that the government has declared a terrorist organisation. Authorities blame the group for devastating wildfires, mainly in Kabylie, that killed at least 65 people.
Relations have deteriorated since last year, when the Western Sahara issue flared up after years of comparative quiet. Morocco sees Western Sahara as its own, but the territory’s sovereignty has been disputed by the Polisario Front, an Algeria-backed independence movement. Halting Erosion using Vetiver:
From Vetiver Spain in Sayalonga
Our Nursery is open by appointment depending on the current travel restrictions. Please email or call first. We have Moringa seedlings, Organic Moringa powder and Comfrey plants. We also have some local trees and some exotic trees from Africa.
Vetiver is a rapid growing and non-invasive sterile clump grass with a height of 1-2 metres and a root system of 3-4 metres in depth. We have been providing Vetiver throughout the EU for almost 10 years now. We are located in Sayalonga where we can plant year round but our best results by far start in February. The reason is that Vetiver is indigenous to India and Vetiver loves the heat of the summer. Use Vetiver cuttings as mulch around all of your fruit trees. Decomposing Vetiver improves soil quality, keeps the weeds down and the insects away all while helping to maintain soil moisture.
Vetiver is a nutritious and replenishable animal fodder. Horses and pigs love it. We use it in our chicken pens replacing hay because it stops mites.
In the 2 photos below you will see land prepared for Vetiver and the results 2 years later.
We also use Vetiver along driveways and sidewalks. It also makes a great and inexpensive ornamental hedge.
Here is a link to a short video showing the results.
https://youtu.be/rjTmb_LL2uo
We suggest planting now, as this is the BEST time of the year to plant.

The La Palma volcano opens a new ‘mouth’ and four new earthquakes are recorded overnight: On Monday night (21 September) and this Tuesday morning, the island has registered four new earthquakes, of which at least two were felt by its population, Spain’s National Geographic Institute (IGN) has reported. The first earthquake at 9.32 pm (Canarian time), reached a magnitude of 3.8. The movement of the lava slowed down yesterday, which delayed its arrival at sea, said the director of the Canary Islands Volcanic Risk Prevention Plan, Pevolca, Miguel Ángel Morcuende. This does not mean, he clarified, that the eruption has decreased its activity. Indeed, shortly after he spoke, a new eruption ‘mouth’ was opened that accompanied to the 3.8 magnitude earthquake. New, Unpatched High-Severity Vulnerability Affects Apple macOS Computers: Apple admits the threat exists but has NOT fully corrected the problem yet. The best advice is to keep your Apple devices fully updated, and hope Apple issues a patch soon. (Apple users, you should expect better support for all these over priced Apple products. Send Apple support your comments regarding their weak security and constant bug-patches, or they will never improve it. -Ed.) Artificial Intelligence Can Detect Dementia Years Before Symptoms Appear: A team led by Professor Zoe Kourtzi at the University of Cambridge and The Alan Turing Institute has developed machine learning tools that can detect dementia in patients at a very early stage. Using brain scans from patients who went on to develop Alzheimer’s, their machine learning algorithm learned to spot structural changes in the brain. When combined with the results from standard memory tests, the algorithm was able to provide a prognostic score – that is, the likelihood of the individual having Alzheimer’s disease. When is Autumn 2021? Start date for UK season and when the autumnal equinox begins: The days are now getting longer as the nights draw in, which means autumn is gradually looming towards us.
Here’s why there are two possible start dates for the season in the UK, and what you need to know about the autumnal equinox.
Autumn’s first day can fall on two different dates, depending on whether you use the meteorological or the astronomical definition.
-The meteorological system is the simpler of the two. So every year, autumn lasts from 1 September until 30 November, with winter then kicking off at the beginning of December. Under the meteorological calendar, spring then always encompasses March to May, with summer lasting from the start of June until the end of August.
-The astronomical system isn’t quite as straightforward, because it is based on the position of the autumnal equinox, which comes later in the month and doesn’t always fall on the same date. This results in autumn having a different start date than under the meteorological system. This year’s autumnal equinox is on Wednesday 22 September, the earliest date it can fall, with the latest being 24 September. According to the system, autumn gives way to winter on the date of the winter solstice, which this year falls on Tuesday 21 December. Samuel Adams’ new beer is so strong it’s illegal in 15 states: Samuel Adams’ latest version of its limited-quantity “Utopias” beer is so strong that the 28% alcohol content makes it illegal in 15 U.S. states.
Released every two years, the 12th version of Utopias is barrel-aged and finished with 2,000 pounds of cherries, including Michigan’s Balaton fruit, coveted by foodies for their tart-sweet flavor in pies, cherry preserves and wine. The potent brew will be commercially available starting October 11, Samuel Adams said in a statement on Thursday.
But beer lovers beware: This stuff is expensive. The suggested retail price for Utopias is $240 for a 25.4-ounce bottle. Full article: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/sam-adams-beer-utopias-illegal-15-states/

MOONETTE – Organic Skincare for Mature Skin
We are a Torrox-based company specialising in the creation of formulae which help prevent premature skin ageing
Do you know that our Ultra Moisturizing Body & Hand Cream is made from 100% natural ingredients?
The powerful combination of aloe vera, beeswax, grapeseed, wheat germ, shea-butter and lavender essential oil will give your skin long-hours hydration and sun protection.
As our skin is the first layer of our defence against microbial infections, ultraviolet radiation and environmental contamination it plays a vital role in our health. Recognising this need we have created a range of formulae which help
-slow down ageing process by smoothing fine lines and wrinkles.

At Moonette, we are passionate about health, beauty and plants. Your skin will benefit from the properties of botanic essential oils combined with a selection of nutrients for deep hydration, cell revitalization and antioxidant effect, all sourced from the finest natural ingredients with gorgeous fragrances. ANDALUCIA

La Viñuela reservoir water level is at its lowest since 2008:
Like a slim tongue of water stretching across the ground and getting smaller every day that there is no rain. That is the current picture at La Viñuela reservoir, which is the biggest in Malaga province. According to the regional government’s Hidrosur network , it contains 38.8 cubic hectometres of water at present. That is just 23.2 per cent of its capacity and is the lowest since 2008, when the levels were similar and La Viñuela was about to be declared a dead reservoir. That was avoided in the end, thanks to the heavy rainfall in the autumn of that year.
The comparison with 2020 also highlights the delicate situation this reservoir is in at present. Just a year ago, it contained 51 hectometres of water. Today, there are 17.6 fewer. Right now, everyone keeps looking hopefully at the sky.
Malaga meteorologist José Luis Escudero says the only solution for La Viñuela now is steady, sustained rainfall. Photo:ÑITO SALAS. Full article: http://www.surinenglish.com/local/202109/17/vinuela-reservoir-only-full-20210917093738-v.html

UK

Amber list to be scrapped as England overhauls travel rules: The UK government announced Friday it is simplifying its controversial traffic light travel rules and removing mandatory Covid tests for vaccinated travelers returning to England from countries on its safe list.
-Grant Shapps, the UK transport minister, said in a series of Twitter posts that as of October 4, the current red-amber-green country lists that govern arrivals into England would cease to exist. In their place will be a “simpler” red list of no-go destinations.
-In addition, he said, eight countries will be removed from the red list on October 22, including Turkey – a popular destination for UK vacationers – Bangladesh, Egypt, the Maldives, Oman, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Kenya.
-The UK will no longer require pre-departure tests before arrival into England for fully vaccinated travelers coming from non-red list countries starting from October 4, said Shapps.
-“From later in October, (fully vaccinated travelers) will be able to replace the day two PCR test with a cheaper lateral flow,” he added, referring to the test required two days after arriving in England. Full article: https://dev-lite.cnn.com/en/article/h_1dba0be3d39535cd3ffae6e5c012bc6d

The panel that advises the Food and Drug Administration rejects use of booster dose of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in people younger than 65 on Friday: Pfizer had petitioned the FDA to approve a third dose of the two-shot vaccine for use in those ages 16 to 65 in the United States about six months after receiving the second dose of the vaccine, but the FDA’s Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee voted 16-2 to deny the petition, citing a lack of evidence to show the clear benefit of administering the booster shots to patients with fully functional immune systems.

Wednesday night’s spectacular fireball seen across south Spain: On 15 September 2021, at 22:25 local time (equivalent to 20:25 universal time), a rock (a meteoroid) from an asteroid impacted the atmosphere at about 76.000 km/h over the south of Spain. The high temperature reached during its atmospheric entry gave rise to a fireball that began at a height of around 91 km over the province of Badajoz. The fireball moved northwest and ended at a height of about 22 km above the same province. The preliminary analysis of this event shows that the rock was not fully destroyed: a small part of the object could survive and reach the ground as a meteorite.
The event was recorded in the framework of the SMART project, operated by the Southwestern Europe Meteor Network (SWEMN), from the meteor-observing stations located at the astronomical observatories of Calar Alto (Almería), Sierra Nevada (Granada), La Sagra, La Hita, and Sevilla. All spaces are within a manageable walking distance of each other (some steep roads, this is a mountain village), and can be viewed in one day.
As there will be a 2 hour break from 2.00pm – 4.00pm why not book a table at one of the many wonderful restaurants that are scattered throughout Cómpeta, or indeed make a weekend of it and book your own accommodation.
There will be live music on Saturday night in the main square and possibly other smaller musical events throughout the weekend.
Admission is absolutely free, no need to book (only accommodation and restaurants), so don’t miss out on this fabulous event.
We hope to see you at Cómpeta Art Walk on 17, 18 & 19 September 2021.

SPAIN

Nuclear power companies threaten to shut down plants if Spanish government takes action on soaring bills: Spain’s energy companies are preparing to fight back against the government’s plans to reduce their “extraordinary profits” and redirect these to consumers. The energy sector says it will be ‘impossible to continue’ if their excess gains are cut as part of the raft of measures aimed at reducing the cost of electricity for consumers.
The Nuclear Forum, a group that also includes the main electricity companies, warned that if a government bill on reducing CO2 emission-related profits gets greenlighted by Congress, “the continuity of Spain’s nuclear plants would become impossible.”
Despite the Nuclear Forum’s warning about the risk of having to shut down plants ahead of time due to untenable costs, the owners of these facilities do not have the power to unilaterally decide on their date of closure, but must instead make a request to the relevant ministry. These plants typically operate on 10-year licenses and must honor the timeframes or face hefty sanctions. The wholesale electricity market shoots up to a new record of 188 euros / MWh after the Government’s shock plan: The average daily price of electricity in the wholesale market is going to pulverize another record this Thursday, already shooting above 188 euros / MWh, after the shock plan approved by the Government on Tuesday was approved, which, among other measures, cut 2,600 million to electricity companies due to the increase in gas prices to mitigate its impact on the receipt of consumers. Windows 11 available on Oct 5: Windows 11 will start to become available on October 5, 2021. On this day, the free upgrade to Windows 11 will begin rolling out to eligible Windows 10 PCs and PCs that come pre-loaded with Windows 11 will start to become available for purchase. (I strongly suggest you wait a few months before upgrading to Windows 11, especially if your computer is more than 3 years old. Give them a chance to work out the bugs! I will get it for testing the day it comes out, and also monitor industry analyst reviews. I will report my findings back here. I will also post a guide on how to properly prepare your device for the Win 11 Upgrade. This is a major upgrade, and you want to do it as “cleanly” as possible to get the best performance from the “new” system. Installing on top of a bunch of junk is asking for trouble, especially on laptops more than 3 years old. Why 3 years? It has to do with new features added to processors in 2018. Win 11 will look for these processor features when it installs. If it identifies a pre-2018 processor during install, the installer will attempt alternative installation protocols with patches for older processors, that are less than optimal. These type of processor patches have a reputation for being unreliable, the older the laptop, the more likely to fail. The good news is that Win 10 is supported for another 4 years. By then it will certainly be time to replace those old pre 2018 laptops.
Read about all the new features and changes here:

Microsoft is further nudging users away from passwords by rolling out passwordless sign-in options to all consumer Microsoft accounts: To that end, and as it gears up to launch Windows 11 in just a few weeks, Microsoft is rolling out its passwordless sign-in option, previously available only to commercial customers, to all Microsoft accounts. This means that users will be able to sign in to services, such as Outlook and OneDrive, without having to use a password. Instead, users can use the Microsoft Authenticator app, Windows Hello, a security key and SMS or emailed codes. New company documents show Facebook knows Instagram is toxic for teen girls: Instagram says it’s looking at new ways to discourage users from focusing on their physical appearance after The Wall Street Journal revealed that Facebook researchers have repeatedly found that the photo-sharing platform is toxic for teen girls.
The newspaper reported on Tuesday that researchers at Facebook, which purchased Instagram in 2012, have been conducting studies for the past three years into how the app affects its millions of young users. The research shows the platform can damage mental health and body image, especially among teen girls.
To see more images of Vetiver go to this link.

As for the 21 deaths registered in the last 24 hours, 13 were added in Seville, three in Cadiz, two in Almeria, two in Malaga and one in Granada and one in Huelva. COVID-19 vaccine booster shots ‘not appropriate’ at this stage of the pandemic – WHO scientists: COVID-19 vaccines remain a highly effective protection against the virus but booster shots are not needed for the general public at this stage, a leading group of scientists have concluded.
The report, published in The Lancet on Monday, said although a booster shot may be “appealing”, the available evidence does not support boosters for the general population.

SPAIN

Spain announces new measures to bring down soaring energy bills: The escalation of prices on the wholesale market has pressured the Spanish government – headed by a center-left coalition of the Socialist Party (PSOE) and junior partner Unidas Podemos – to take action to curb the cost of household energy bills.
While the government has no control over the wholesale market – which is set by a daily auction – Sánchez told state broadcaster RTVE that he aims to limit the impact of these price rises with a new action plan that will be approved by the Spanish Cabinet on Tuesday.
-The plan involves four fronts: structural reform to promote cleaner and cheaper energy, measures to protect the most vulnerable households, cuts on some taxes and redirecting some of the profits made by energy companies back to the consumer. Beware of Fake “Team Viewer” Software Downloads:
-Users searching for TeamViewer remote desktop software on search engines like Google are being redirected to malicious links that drop ZLoader malware onto their systems while simultaneously embracing a stealthier infection chain that allows it to linger on infected devices and evade detection by security solutions.
-The latest wave of attacks is believed to target users of Australian and German financial institutions with the primary goal of intercepting users’ web requests to the banking portals and stealing bank credentials. But the campaign is also noteworthy because of the steps it takes to stay under the radar, including running a series of commands to hide the malicious activity by disabling Windows Defender.
-The infection chain commences when a user clicks on an advertisement shown by Google on the search results page and is redirected to the fake TeamViewer site under the attacker’s control, thus tricking the victim into downloading a rogue but signed variant of the software (“Team-Viewer.msi”).
-DoctorLaptop adds:
If you suspect you have installed this rouge version of Team Viewer, here is a procedure to correctly remove it.
1. Uninstall Team Viewer, restart computer.
2. Run CCleaner’s registry cleaner and delete all the junk files it finds. Restart computer.
3. This malware disables Windows Defender, so we need to use another malware removal tool. Do a full system malware scan with a free “online malware scanner”. I suggest ESET Online Malware Scanner.
https://www.eset.com/uk/home/online-scanner/
Be sure to check the box to allow the scanner to automatically remove threats.
Be aware this scan can take 6 to 8hrs or longer, depending on your internet connection and the amount of data on your hard drive. I suggest you start it before going to bed, it will be done and showing the scan results when you return to the computer the next day.
4. Restart computer and check in Settings>Windows Security>Virus & Threat Detection, and confirm that Windows Defender (if on a Windows computer) is enabled. You may need to click the yellow button to restart Defender.
(As previously covered here, unless you use Team Viewer everyday, you should only install it when needed, and then uninstall it when finished. It is very dangerous to leave Team Viewer installed on a computer when it is not being used.)

Update Google Chrome to Patch 2 New Zero-Day Flaws Under Attack: —-Google on Monday released security updates for Chrome web browser to address a total of 11 security issues, two of which it says are actively exploited zero-days in the wild.
-As is typically the case, the company said it’s “aware that exploits for CVE-2021-30632 and CVE-2021-30633 exist in the wild” without sharing additional specifics about how, when, and where the vulnerabilities were exploited, or the threat actors that may be abusing them.
With these two security shortcomings, Google has addressed a total of 11 zero-day vulnerabilities in Chrome since the start of the year. Full article: https://thehackernews.com/2021/09/update-google-chrome-to-patch-2-new.html

Fakebook Censors Song Critical of Biden’s Afghan Exit: With unusual speed, Facebook has blocked a Grammy-nominated songwriter from promoting his new tune that pays tribute to U.S. troops in Afghanistan and whacks President Joe Biden’s bumbled withdrawal.
On John Ondrasik’s page, Facebook said it was blocking an ad to promote his new song, “Blood on my hands,” because “it doesn’t comply with our advertising policies.”
Ondrasik wrote the just-released song in reaction to the deaths of 13 service members in the days leading to the full U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan and the plight of those left behind, especially women. CORRECTION: Yesterdays article regarding Microsoft installing its new AI center in Barcelona mistakenly mentioned a “Security Center” being built at the old Malaga army base by Microsoft. The “Security Center” being built at the old Malaga army base is actually a Google owned facility. -Ed.
